So Katy’s in a stage of her career now where she’s pretty much made it, she’s had her peak but she’s still globally known as a pop superstar, has her vegas residency and Teenage Dream is still smashing on streams with it often appearing inside the UK Top 100 but as a major chart star it feels like her days of major success with new material are over… or are they?

Many people had this thought of Gaga until A Star Is Born happened and then she scored Shallow her biggest seller to date, scored another #1 single and album and seems to totally bounced back. Obviously with Gaga she has versatility on her side as she can do big ballads, jazz music and can pull of acting roles too but what would it take for Katy to pull of a similar comeback and can she do it?

All thoughts welcome here but interested in peoples thought of this.

The best way of her to get a big hit would be a feature with either big dance act (UK) or a latin superstar (US/Latin). Alesso is way too middle ground (+ the song isn't that good)

I wonder why she hasn't dabbled in acting yet. She has great comic skills and can draw crowds, so why not? mellow.gif

I can’t see Katy making any kind of big comeback now tbh. She will continue to have a loyal fan base but struggle to connect with the wider general public. Her output since witness hasn’t been as good sadly but she’s had a good run.

I really liked the Alesso track but I think whatever she releases now won’t be that successful. She hasn’t had a decent sized hit for a while now.

She has already tried the dance collar and the latin hit, and none worked

Was she really needs to do imo is to release a great song
so basically another Never Really Over or even better song

but tracks like Daisies, Smile, Hawaii etc those were all not good enough

The frustrating thing is it feels like she's just let this happen, although to be fair she was at her peak 11-12 years ago now and that's a lifetime in the pop world.

Feels was #1 in the UK!

She needs to collaborate with someone who actually gets hits, like Joel Corry, Jax Jones etc in the UK, and Bad Bunny, Rauw Alejandro etc in America. And of course it helps if the song is great too.

lol her 3 dance collabs bombed and the latin one did also (though it did feel like a hit).

Katy would actually easily have a hit if she just released a catchy, good single. For example, 'Never Really Over' was too irritating for radio listeners, however had she pushed 'Teary Eyes', she'd probas have had a hit. The other singles, bar 'Small Talk' (dunno why that flopped) were just dreadful.

iirc callout scores for NRO were less than favorable despite it making top 10 on US pop radio. According to those surveyed, she was dead last on nearly every metric. They improved over the weeks, but she was still last sad.gif

NRO joins a long list of songs on twitter that people say were underrated and hits that never were when really NRO did as well as it could... people seem to think a few live performances would have changed things?

It's always in just Stan twitter's head - I can very well say that GUY by Gaga was underrated, but that doesn't change the fact that the general public couldn't care less at that point.

I think NRO actually did really quite well in rebuilding some momentum that the Witness era completely destroyed... only to then swiftly undo it with 'Small Talk'.

The Alesso track is the strongest thing she has released since chained to the rhythm but even that hasn’t impacted much.

I disagree - it sounds pretty dated and basic to me.

I think it gave off that impression bc of the lack of Spotify support - she performed it on SNL earlier this year
