what's the matter now?

Posted by: Davidson 23rd November 2014, 10:01 PM

Some interesting song choices on the Jutebox surprisingly. I would love Andrea to do 'Heartless' for something different from him and 'Family Portrait' is my favourite P!nk song by far and is so under used so would love to hear Fleur's take. Unfortunately I can see the public going with the obvious choices though (although If I Ain't Got You would be fab for Fleur anyway).

Song predictions:

Andrea Faustini - Hero (although Respect wouldn't surprise me)
Lauren Platt - Story Of My Life
Stereo Kicks - Fix You
Ben Haenow - Thinking Out Loud
Fleur East - If I Ain't Got You

Hope there will be some upbeat songs for their other choice (presuming they have 2 songs each).

Haven't we already had Queen week??

Posted by: FezVez 23rd November 2014, 10:47 PM

My votes:

Andrea
Kanye West - Heartless

Lauren
Swedish House Mafia - Don't You Worry Child

Stereo Kicks
Phil Collins - Against All Odds ('cause I want them out!)

Ben
Joe Cocker - With a Little Help From My Friends ('cause no one show be allowed to touch You Are So Beautiful after Alexandra's iconic rendition)

Fleur
P!nk - Family Portrait

Ugh don't let Andrea do Heartless please. It'll probably be a rehash of Samantha Jades performance on the Australian X Factor and I'm sure it has been performed in the same style on the US X factor as well

Mel was even a judge in that series so she'd just blatantly be ripping off Samantha laugh.gif I think it would be good for Andrea but I agree, if he's going to do something different I'd rather it wasn't copycat still!

Posted by: April 23rd November 2014, 11:18 PM

The biggest copycat crime on XF was surely Simon stealing Gamu Nhengu's version of "Walking on Sunshine" for Rachel Crow. Scandalous.

Posted by: Envoirment 23rd November 2014, 11:22 PM

Andrea: Kanye West - Heartless

Lauren: Chaka Khan - Ain't Nobody or Swedish House Mafia - Don't You Worry Child

Stereo Kicks: Snow Patrol - Run

Ben: Joe Cocker - With a Little Help From My Friends

Fleur: P!nk - Family Portrait

Those are my votes. I'm torn between those two for Lauren though. I love "Ain't Nobody" and want to see it being performed but I don't think it'll suit her. But at the same time I don't want to hear "Don't You Worry Child" for the millionth time even though I think she'll do a good job of it. laugh.gif

6.0 Ben Haenow - Come Together

what a weak version of that song, didn't do anything for me but he'll predictably get "you were amazing" comments

Posted by: ROBOT 29th November 2014, 08:09 PM

Anyone here?

That was definitely the line of performance and song choice that Ben seems most comfortable doing, it was a big improvement on last week but he's a case of 'no matter what he does, you'll never love it' for me, and that's purely because I don't like the tone of his voice when he does the YARGHHHH kinda gravelly screams, just not my thing. One of his better performances though, I'll give him that.

Ben Haenow - 'Come Together' / 7/10

Posted by: JosephStyles 29th November 2014, 08:09 PM

Better than last week but gosh he shouted parts of that.

06.0 Ben Haenow (1)

Posted by: J▼hnkm 29th November 2014, 08:09 PM

What I heard was really shouty, but the chorus was way too swamped by backing vocals

Posted by: Liаm 29th November 2014, 08:09 PM

Less painful than last week, but then tripping over is less painful than being kicked in the balls.

01 Ben Haenow - Come Together 4/10

Fleur is usually near the end laugh.gif and Andrea/Ben/Lauren are very often near the start. In fact I'm sure Lauren and Ben opened the show last week, but Lauren was first and Ben second! But running order doesn't matter so much when there's only 5 tbh.

she really looks awkward in-between all the dancers. and some of those vocals were off. i know she's ill but it still wasn't that good.

Posted by: Liаm 29th November 2014, 08:18 PM

Not the right song choice at all sad.gif Far from her best and it was quite pitchy, but she was ill. Hopefully she pulls it back with the second song choice.

01 Lauren Platt - Clarity 7/10
02 Ben Haenow - Come Together 4/10

Posted by: ROBOT 29th November 2014, 08:18 PM

Lauren Platt - 'Clarity' / 4.5/10 That performance really just showed her up in my opinion, appalling performance skills of literally just taking a casual bored stroll around the stage when so much was going on around her. It could've been a moment because that was a GREAT song choice for her but it really wasn't, quite weak and she's really gone backwards the past few weeks disappointingly because as Simon said that is the sort of song she should be nailing and releasing imo.

Posted by: Jonjo 29th November 2014, 08:19 PM

02. Lauren Platt - Clarity

You can tell she's ill/has a sore throat. I feel for her slightly but she's a massive trooper for actually going on and performing and not taking the easy way out by not performing (not sure what would have happened at this stage in the competition, but assuming it's the same situation - a bye to the next week). She still gave a good performance, but vocally (obvious reasons) it wasn't as good as it could have been, although still good for what they were!

07.0 out of 10

Posted by: J▼hnkm 29th November 2014, 08:20 PM

Taking vocals out of the mix all she did was stand there and turn a little. ZERO performance went on.

Ben Haenow (Come Together) - Thought it was great and exactly what he should be doing. His best performance in a good while for me. - 9.0/10.0
Lauren Platt (Clarity) - Was strong overall but much like all of her other performances recently, been competent without blowing me away. Some vocal struggling during chorus too. - 7.0/10.0

Ben Haenow (Come Together) - 9.0
Lauren Platt (Clarity) - 7.0

Posted by: Ryan. 29th November 2014, 08:21 PM

Surprised at the negativity for Lauren here, Simon and Louis were completely right in that that's the type of music she'd make in the real world and of course Lauren wasn't fully into the performance considering she was bound to be extremely worried about her vocals - all that considering it was a great performance and one of her best of the series actually. Great song choice and I loved the dance breakdowns with all the dancers wub.gif

Posted by: ROBOT 29th November 2014, 08:28 PM

Stereo Kicks - 'Just The Way You Are' / 7.5/10 I liked the chorus and at times it felt like quite a moment for them but then on other points, particularly again when two of the weaker singers were left to do solos it felt a bit flat. My favourite performance yet though and one of their better performances. I do agree with Mel in a sense though that the backing vocals are always so loud that I'm always dubious as to how much they're actually singing and harmonising. Worked well for them though. 7.5/10

Just becsuse he can hit the notes of the chorus doesn't make up for the hideously boring first minute or so. Wrong song choice completely, hardly anyone can attempt it and it fell a bit flat. I agree that the last bit was vocally flawless, but as usual he just left me a bit cold.

05. Andrea Faustini - Chandelier

That was (surprisingly) very, VERY good! I liked what he did with it and he didn't push and force his vocals to do that horrible screechy noise he does a lot when he's singing. His falsetto is really nice! I wasn't mad on the verse arrangement (Sia's carribean influenced versus suit the song so much!) but that's my only criticism. My favourite performance of his, by a mile so far.

Posted by: Dobbo 29th November 2014, 08:53 PM

Just caught up, a very mixed bag first half!

I actually enjoyed Ben's performance (for once), definitely my fave of his so far. Probably helps that I love the song so much!

Lauren's was a bit of a mess sadly, really struggled with those high notes :/

Stereo Kicks' was typically boring and lifeless.

For me Fleur's was average by her usual high standards. Definitely not the best song choice.

Andrea totally bossed it though! Wasn't sure how he'd tackle the track but he nailed it. Loved the falsetto in the early parts.

Posted by: Jonjo 29th November 2014, 08:53 PM

Based on first performances only, it should be a Lauren/Stereo Kicks bottom 2. But, they all have a lot riding on the second song.

Lauren Platt - 'Don't You Worry Child' / 8.5/10 Her best performance in a long while but STILL voice cracks there as there's been for weeks which is NEVER picked up on annoyingly. That really felt like going back to the first few weeks when she performed 'What A Feeling' though, which remains her best performance. A big step up from what was probably her worst performance ever earlier in the night. Still lacking a bit of wow but great anyhow.

06. Lauren Platt - Don't You Worry Child

I'm thinking it'll be the acoustic version/the slower version, but it's another good choice of song. I think we know next years John Lewis advert song already ;D It was very nice, but she just doesn't appeal to me as a popstar, personally. All a bit dull and one dimensional. Nice enough though I guess. Much better than her first performance! It was a nice performance and she did a good job vocally, which is bizarre coz in the first song you could tell she was ill.

Ben Haenow - 'Thinking Out Loud' / 5/10 So much of that was flat and even though I'm not a HUGE fan of the track originally (it is good though), it took away any remote emotion or rawness from it. His voice definitely didn't suit that at all and he really didn't seem to get into the swing of it. Performance 1 was one of my favourites from him, that certainly wasn't, not the right sort of voice for the song. Not the worst of the night however.

However, his performance used the exact arrangement that they used for Emily West in America's Got Talent. She came 2nd and her version was infinitely better than Andrea's. Her falsetto is pitch perfect and she holds the notes beautifully. His performance just doesn't compare at all.

Stereo Kicks - 'Run' / 9/10 They've actually really pulled it out of the bag tonight RIGHT when they needed to. I must say though, with that performance, my least favourite part of it was James wailing all the time - sometimes it works but in that performance, it was a little bit too much and it worked better with all the harmonies. Tom impressed me there and I'm actually very impressed. A big step up from the past few weeks when I've been quite 'meh' on them (I did love their Everybody performance though).

Fleur East - 'If I Ain't Got You' / 8.5/10 Better, her vocals definitely suit that sort of song by an artist like Alicia Keys a lot better than many she's performed in the past. It just hasn't been her night for me in terms of nailing it, a very good performance but something was still missing there for me. It almost felt like it was over before it'd barely started. It definitely suited her better than the MJ ballad though.

Stunning. One of my favourite songs ever and she did strain slightly in one or two parts, but her voice and tone is just so gorgeous. Posted by: Jonjo 29th November 2014, 09:40 PM

10. Andrea Faustini - Hero

He's such an inconsistent vocalist. He tries far too many tricks and things throughout his performances and as a song that I hold extremely close to my heart, there really wasn't any emotion here! I'm bored of his stuff and find him really, really overrated, especially as a vocalist. Majority of the time he sounds like he's vomiting and I really don't see the appeal. It was good, I guess. But his first performance was by far and away his best!

As long as he & Fleur (who I'm sure will sail through) go through I'm not particularly fussed on who goes. In an ideal world it'd be Stereo Kicks though.

Andrea Faustini - 'Hero' / 9.5/10 It was missing some of the magic that made Chandelier a 10/10 for me but it was still absolutely superb, I love that he's putting more of his falsetto into his performances because it's so perfect and sublime. Nobody could've done that with such emotion and with such on point vocals like he did. He's not always my favourite but I really think he's been streets ahead tonight.

10.0 Andrea Faustini - 'Chandelier'
9.5/10 Andrea Faustini - Hero
9/10 Stereo Kicks - 'Run'

Good point, they've definitely thrown the group performance in with a guest act in previous years so surely that's what will happen.

God I hope they don't do that. Adam Lambert can sing each and every one of them off the stage in his sleep. I'd rather they do a medley of some sort.

My take -

Ben one really good performance, one that exposed him but easily safe.

Fleur had 2 decent performances, but she never hits the highs that others can, still safe.

Lauren had 1 woeful performance and 1 decent, she looked like the one they were gunning for, gone tomorrow.

SK 1 utterly shit performance, 1 decent performance, could be bottom 2.

Andrea 1 decent performance, one outstanding one, will it be enough to take him above the bottom 2, I would hope so.

Tbh a Ben, Fleur and Andrea final would be the best outcome from here and I think the only chance of Fleur winning, as Ben and Andrea will split the mum vote.

I'm confident Fleur will be fine. Bottom 2 will be Lauren with either Andrea/SK. If SK are bottom 2 the judges will definitely save them so the only interesting sing-off will be Lauren Vs. Andrea.

Posted by: sammy01 30th November 2014, 01:35 AM

As far as I can see Andrea is the highest on itunes so far with Chandelier, which is interesting.

edit - excluding SK who are always highest #fangirls #giftcards lol

Posted by: sammy01 30th November 2014, 02:51 AM

Chandelier seems to have given Andrea a boost where he has been struggling recently on itunes and youtube views. It is the 2nd most watched performance so far only behind Ben who is the main page video on X factor youtube so gets played automatically.

It is the first modern song he has done isn't it? It might have been what he needed to get some younger fans onside.

Posted by: euro music 30th November 2014, 11:48 AM

My Bottom 2 would be:
Stereo Kicks: There isn't one decent voice between them. 2 disastrous performances
Simon only rates them because he put them together and Louis because they're his act - just a bunch morons acting like 14 year olds who appeal to 10 year old girls. sick2.gif sick2.gif

Andrea: 1 disastrous performance and one so-so. He acts and talks so girlie though.

For me now the final show should be:

Winner - Fleur
2nd - Ben
3rd - Lauren

I think Fleur is the only one who has realistic chance of a lengthy career - maybe Ben

Posted by: Liаm 30th November 2014, 12:08 PM

Ben is like a mash-up of Matt Cardle and Shayne Ward imo. But Matt Cardle had an incredible voice (and was much more attractive) and Shayne did too (and obviously is infinitely hotter). But I really can't see him being much more successful than maybe James Arthur, regardless of the fact I'm not a fan of his.

Tbh I'm not sure Fleur even would smash or anything. She'd do the best out of the five left though I imagine.

Ah yes, the only 21st century he's performed aside from Chandlier is Listen ohmy.gif He might have been a Sam Bailey obvious esque winner if Mel handled him like this all along. Personally I wasn't all that taken by it and much preferred Hero, but it was getting quite boring that he just sang diva ballads in the standard Andrea way every week (aside from Relight My Fire which was still dated).

Posted by: sammy01 30th November 2014, 12:18 PM

Fleur for everyone's talk about her being a popstar and the one to have a career after the show has been doing woeful on itunes recently. Everyone else has both their songs in the top 200 from last night, and everyone has at least 1 in the top 100 apart from Fleur who has non in the top 200.

She also has the 2 least watch vids from last night on youtube and not by small margins either.

Posted by: Liаm 30th November 2014, 12:29 PM

I know itunes isn't always indicative but I really think it'll be Lauren and Fleur in the bottom 2 sad.gif Knowing this show, Fleur will somehow go too laugh.gif

Posted by: sammy01 30th November 2014, 12:40 PM

I think this week we will see how big Fleur, SK and Lauren's fanbases are as I think Ben is easily safe and Andrea had a good night. Fleur has had about 6 weeks of pimping and they laid off it last night and she was largely forgotten, so I cant see last night picking up any floating votes, same with Lauren and SK.

Just because it would be amazing to see Simon foiled, I'd love to see a Fleur vs SK bottom 2.

Posted by: troylovesmusic 30th November 2014, 12:49 PM

Yeah this is the first week I've been really worried about Fleur I really think she could be in the bottom 2 but I really hope not sad.gif

Posted by: Liаm 30th November 2014, 12:52 PM

There is no way the judges will send Fleur home, but her being bottom 2 when Ben and SK both had one shockingly horrendous performance each and she smashed both is ridiculous. I don't think Andrea deserves to e bottom 2 either, I wasn't a huge fan of Chandelier but Hero was brilliant and vocally he smashed both. He might be a bit boring but he'd still be in my preferred final 3.

Watching back Lauren's, I overrated Clairry a bit and she was very shaky but I personally loved her performance of Don't Youl Worry Child. I won't be too annoyed if she's bottom 2 because it's so obvious it's going to happen and I've been expecting her to perhaps fall into the bottom since about week 5! But Fleur in the bottom is just ridiculous.

Posted by: sammy01 30th November 2014, 01:12 PM

Can we just get rid of Louis already, he did nothing last night but compliment everyone and agreed with Simon about everything. He might as well not have been there.

James was a bit OTT (moreso than usual) but it still worked. The guy that sang before him (remind me of his name, Jay~) sounded beautiful though ohmy.gif

Idk.

~~

As per usual Fleur was the star of the night for me. wub.gif A excellent night for Andrea too - his performance of 'Hero' was particularly stunning. Across two devices I gave 9 votes to Fleur and 1 to Andrea. I'll be gutted if Fleur is bottom 2. sad.gif

I hope the bottom 2 tonight is Lauren vs Stereo Kicks. Sorry to fans of Lauren, but I wouldn't mind at all if she went. Louis keeps calling her the "perfect little popstar" and I think she's far from that in many respects. Her voice is getting gradually worse and less special, and her stage presence is virtually zero. She's become disappointing.

Posted by: Liаm 30th November 2014, 05:13 PM

Even I think Lauren is hardly "the perfect little popstar" and I love her laugh.gif I swear Louis would say even Susan Boyle was the perfect popstar if she entered The X Factor, he's really been on autopilot this series more than usual it seems.

Posted by: J▼hnkm 30th November 2014, 06:06 PM

Louis more than anyone else is in in the joke about it all now. The show is less about finding a viable popstar, none of this crop are likely to sell very well, probably Sam Bailey levels at most, and more about entertainment. He knows that spouting ridiculous nonsense that bears no relation to what just happened on stage is the easiest way he can get people talking/rile them up/laughing, whatever they want to be entertained.

As long as Fleur and Stereo Kicks are safe i don't really mind who goes though.

Her album isn't that great imo. She has a big standout ("Ghost") and then a handful of nice/decent tracks. The rest is a bit boring/below average. I like Ella though, so hope her album will manage to go platinum. But Ella being with Syco I'm not sure how her second album will go. Like how they switched up Mel and Simon's vote, but deadlock was always going to be the outcome.

Posted by: Parallel Reality 30th November 2014, 08:55 PM

And Louis has no more acts!

no massive loss, but I hate Lauren more so she should have went.

doubt they'll be getting a contract at all though, at least not as an eight-piece.

Posted by: Jester 30th November 2014, 08:56 PM

Shame as I liked Stereo Kicks. Lauren sang better though.

Posted by: Liаm 30th November 2014, 08:56 PM

Posted by: sammy01 30th November 2014, 08:56 PM

Lauren gone next week please, bye.

Posted by: Martyn 30th November 2014, 08:56 PM

It's about time they went. Over hyped for no real reason. I expect by the time they are "launched" to the public the two youngest ones, especially the 14 year old will be gone and there will only be six of them.

At this stage of the competition they really should just be eliminating the bottom contestant.

Posted by: ► ▲ N T ▲ 30th November 2014, 08:56 PM

OMG YES cheer.gif I really thought Lauren would go - what a good surprise!

Stereo Kicks' singoff perf was more awful than usual so glad they're out now

Posted by: Santa Martin 30th November 2014, 08:57 PM

Well they had to go sometime, I think Lauren will go next week, I can't see her getting the rebound vote, as the other 3 are the strongest in the competition.

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 30th November 2014, 08:57 PM

I know who's bottom 2 but who's out?
I'm in car and this is the first bit of 4G I have for in ages. Please be a miracle and Lauren survives

Sam Bailey next week. Guess she's promoting her album from earlier this year? Performance could help push it towards platinum.

Lauren was miles better in the sing off though, and she will absolutely be gone next week so I'm not too worried

Can we not have Louis judging for the SF and F now cus he is just going to compliment everyone and back whoever Simon tells him, seriously just put a whiteboard with some cliche quotes written on it in his chair and be done with it.

Fifth Harmony <3 I love a bit of Idina too. Sam Bailey is fine too but nothing to be too excited over.

She has a re-release out btw so she'll be promoting that.

Her re-release of The Power Of Love (The Gift Edition) is out tomorrow so it will be to promote that.

With Fifth Harmony getting a slot, it just makes it all that more sore that The Saturdays were never able to get a slot.

Just caught up with this, FINALLY they are gone! dance.gif

Posted by: BrookeOlivia 30th November 2014, 09:58 PM

Surely Fleur as this in the bag now? I'd be shocked if she didn't win now.

Posted by: Jonjo 30th November 2014, 10:01 PM

Nah. It'll be Ben who wins. I'm thinking...

01. Ben
02. Andrea
03. Fleur >> Although this will depend on who she gets as her duet partner! <<
04. Lauren >> Maybe a rebound vote can get her in the final though! <<

Posted by: Liаm 30th November 2014, 10:09 PM

It's close, and I agree it could come down to the duet partners even. Lauren could make it to the final over Andrea maybe if she really pulls it off again next week like she did in the sing-off tonight, depending on whether they decide to have a sing-off again next week... I just hope Ben and Andrea are splitting the mum vote so the former doesn't win.

Posted by: Calum Hood 30th November 2014, 10:11 PM

Seriously do not see anybody other than Ben winning (thank god). Fleur gives me 3rd place vibes.

Posted by: ClausofKubrick 30th November 2014, 10:11 PM

I'd say Ben is the really safe bet to win this now. And then I'd agree with Liam's rank for the rest too.

It HAS to be Fleur for me though. To think, i thought she'd be first or second to leave and she hasn't even been bottom 2 yet laugh.gif she's surpassed her expectations and then some!

Posted by: BrookeOlivia 30th November 2014, 10:22 PM

I think Ben and Fleur will be top 2, I think Fleur would probably be more successful then Ben after the show. But who knows public decide so wouldn't be shocked if Ben won.

Posted by: sammy01 30th November 2014, 10:31 PM

Fleur really needs Andrea in the final not Lauren. I feel like Lauren and Fleur share more of a fanbase and Ben and Andrea do too. So if I think the final goes how I expect, 5 votes then 5 more after 3rd has left Saturday night, she needs Lauren not there as those voters voting for Lauren and leaving 3rd will be wasted votes. Where as if Fleur is the only female I feel she will lap up all those votes Lauren would have got.

It is also the same for Ben and Andrea sharing the mum vote, so it would be beneficial for her to have Ben and Andrea split those Saturday night votes.

Shocked by tonight's result in terms of Simon taking it to deadlock and Stereo Kicks losing out - very surprising considering everything they've done to keep them in. First time this series that something has gone against the conspiracy theories, and I'm glad that they did!

I think once you hit bottom 2 for a third time it is over, there isn't really a way they can justify keeping an act then. They did take it to deadlock though, even though Lauren was better in the sing off and her first bottom 2 vs SK third.

It is between Lauren and Andrea for who makes the final with Ben and Fleur, I wonder if potential guest performers with the artists might play a role as to who they put their weight behind out of those 2. I think Andrea could potentially pull a big name to sing with him, where as I cant think of a single guest artist yet that has even acknowledge Lauren's existence.

Posted by: Liаm 1st December 2014, 08:08 AM

The first theme is unplugged. On X Factor US and Australian idol where I've seen it, that's basically just a minimalist performance with just a guitar or piano.

Another reason to be thankful that it was SK who went then laugh.gif

Posted by: euro music 1st December 2014, 12:21 PM

Thank You Simon for at last helping to get rid of those morons. I think Mel B & Louis must be tone deaf.
Louis says they are consistant every week. He should mean consistently bad sick2.gif

Lauren's sing-off was flawless. Best I've heard her sing. If she sings like that next week she could be a dark horse.

Also Ella Henderson definitely put Union J to shame. Ella's now selling all over the world but Union J only UK & Ireland.
