We've headed into a new TV season!
This is our general discussion thread for anything you think might not warrant a full topic or perhaps the odd TV related meme or video you may wish to share with us.
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHEN UK TV GETS CHARMED?
ALSO WHY DID CHANNEL 5 STOP SHOWING WILL AND GRACE HALF WAY THROUGJ?????
I'll be streaming Charmed. Sod the slow UK channels
Can someone pm me a good link to do that?
Channel 5 didn't stop part way through & are showing season 10.
Comedy Central is airing reruns, it's still firmly within the Viacom family
It can't be. I had a series link and it stopped. I have checked Fridays and it never has it.
Iron Fist has been cancelled by Netflix oops! The first Marvel series to be axed by them (although The Defenders is unlikely to return I think). I’ve watched three episodes of the second season and I’m just watching just because.
All the other shows have been renewed for another season (JJS3, LCS3, TPS2 and Daredevil returns for its third season next week?)
omg forget that, now Luke Cage has been axed too!
They’re my two least favourite series so I’m not particularly bothered. I wonder if this is to make room for other Marvel shows for their mini universe or if it’s in retaliation of Disney’s new streaming service.
The BBC have struck a deal with the American TV channel FX (American Horror Story, Sons of Anarchy) which means they have the rights to all new FX original series!
It's almost pilot season! I can't wait to see how many reboots/revamps make it through to the order stage this year, or if we will see some really inspired new ideas on Network TV to fight against the rise of Netflix
They need to keep investing/developing shorter seasons. With so much TV available, no one’s here for a 22 episode season.
I still enjoy a good 22 episode season personally. It works for some of the more formulaic shows like NCIS, TBBT et al and I think there's a place for it still. However that place is not in a line up where everything is 22 episodes. I agree that I'd like to see shorter seasons, but not just the standard 13 half season. I'm here for explosive 3-5, maybe 6, episode dramas or even a short 4-8 episode run with 90min episodes (60 sans commercials).
The best line up for me would be some more of these event TV style shows (like a BBC drama), shorter runs, and then you have your staple 9pm Thursdays that bring in the big advertising bucks that subsidise you making some riskier choices. Some experimentation with formats and episode lengths and season lengths would be great for network TV and I think could help keep it interesting.
One Born Every Minute has been axed by Channel 4 after nearly a decade on air: https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/reality-tv/a28582137/channel-4-one-born-every-minute-axed/
The article states it was attracting an average of 5m back in 2010 whilst just 600k watched the final episode.
I’ve just finished watching Good Omens on Amazon Prime. What a great series!
When I saw the trailer I thought it looked like reductive trash but I thought I’d give it a go as it had David Tenant in it and I was thoroughly impressed.
Strong Desperate Housewives vibes crossed with Once Upon A Time and a dashing of the bible.
haven't seen the TV show but Good Omens the book is amazing, Neil Gaiman is the most imaginative writer ever
Looks like there will be considerable scheduling gaps due to coronavirus as the Euros have been cancelled and many TV companies have had to halt production (including on major shows due for Autumn including Line of Duty, Peaky Blinders and The Apprentice).
Expect there will be a lot of repeats as we head into the Summer and new content will be saved for Autumn to fill gaps there.
Also rumours that the soaps will be stopping production soon and may have to reduce their schedule to avoid having a period without any episodes at all. Some papers suggesting two episodes a week 'rationing' until they're able to catch up with filming later in the year.
Sue Barker, Phil Tufnell and Matt Dawson have all been axed from A Question of Sport in favour of a new look for the show. Sue Barker has been presenting the show for over 23 years.
Honestly, I think this is a terrible decision. I’m not personally a huge fan of the show but I think it’s one that doesn’t need all these ‘shake ups’. The team works well and has great chemistry together and you need those dependable, reliable shows as I’m sure it has a loyal audience. I think they should have looked at creating a new sports show if they wanted a change. I don’t think an overhaul of AQOS is going to do anything but create a negative response.
In a surprise to no one, Alex Scott is the new host of A Question of Sport. A very predictable but decent choice! I'm on the bandwagon that it was one show that worked and no changes were needed, but I guess the proof will be in the pudding to see how the new format / line up works.
Some comedy boxsets coming to iPlayer:
The Vicar Of Dibley - 24 October
The Catherine Tate Show - 24 October
The Royle Family - 24 October
Gimme Gimme Gimme - 12 November
Blackadder - 14 November
The Vicar of Dibley and The Royle Family are essentials towards this end of the year, will definitely be giving those a rewatch!
omg will definitely be watching The Catherine Tate Show!
Rupert Murdoch's News UK TV has been approved for launch. That's now News UK TV and GB News looking to launch in the new year. Fortunately it looks like News UK TV is going to be running in the evenings only (a TV equivalent to Times Radio) and GB News won't be a rolling news channel so thankfully leaves rolling news to Sky and the BBC for now.

As part of the "war on woke", The Mash Report has been axed by the BBC
Really hoping, as many others are, that Channel 4 will pick up the show. I feel a prayer circle is needed for Mock The Week and Frankie Boyle's New World Order.
Such a crap decision that has clearly been made for political reasons. It was a well watched show with a good reach to demos that aren’t typical users of the BBC
All programmes on BBC 1 and ITV are cancelled for the rest of the day to make way for new reports and tributes for Prince Phillip.
I remember everything was cancelled when Diana died but that was a massive shock. I don’t remember much changing for Princess Margaret’s death and my memory of the Queen Mother’s is similar to yours where most things carried on, it was Easter weekend actually.
Part of me wonders if they’re going in this hard today, it’s because of the current climate in Britain.
BBC Four is off tonight.
BBC 1 schedules will resume at 2pm today.
BBC Two til 6am
British Soap Awards cancelled for the second year in a row.
Very very disturbing allegations against Noel Clarke came out yesterday, really saddening to hear :/
ITV have pulled the final episode of his new series 'Viewpoint' tonight - and it will be put on the ITV Hub only.
Indeed, the article from the Guardian is shocking and disturbing to read.
I see long-runnjng children's TV programme Arthur has been asked after 25 years.
Channel 4 and More 4 went off air on Saturday due to a "technical problem", the broadcaster said.
Viewers said a still screen was shown for about 25 minutes on Channel 4 before normal broadcasting resumed, while those watching More 4 said they saw flashing images.
Channel 4 has not said what the cause was, only blaming "technical issues".
But Welsh broadcaster S4C said it had faced its own technical problems after a fire at a London distribution centre.
Channel 4 confirmed two channels were temporarily off air in a tweet, though service has now resumed.
Some viewers said Film4 and E4 were also affected.
The broadcaster tweeted: "Channel 4 and More 4 are currently off air due to a technical problem. We are working to restore them as quickly as possible."
A spokesperson later said: "We did come off air due to technical issues and steps were taken to put this right as soon as possible."
S4C, the Welsh language public service TV broadcaster, tweeted: "Unfortunately following a fire at a London distribution centre we are experiencing technical problems. Apologies."
Separately, Channel 5 also went off air on Saturday.
Some viewers saw a message on the channel which said: "We apologise for the interruption. We'll be back with you as soon as we can."
Ofcom has confirmed BBC Three will return as a channel to help younger viewers and 75% of its content must be original content made by the BBC, it has also been confirmed it will return in February
Never should have gone off air. BBC Three produces some great content and taking it away when it was well watched by the younger age groups was just some absolute snobbish bullshit

Russian-backed news channel RT has disappeared from all broadcast platforms in the UK.
UK access to the TV network, formerly called Russia Today, has been affected by a ban imposed by the European Union.
Although the UK is no longer in the EU, the bloc applied sanctions to satellite companies in Luxembourg and France, which provided the RT feed to Sky, Freesat and Freeview.
RT said "the facade of free press in Europe has finally crumbled".
UK Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries, who has described the channel as "Putin's polluting propaganda machine", said she hoped it would not return to UK screens.
"As part of a concerted effort and discussions, Russia Today is no longer streamed into British homes, either by TV, Sky, Freesat or Freeview," she told the House of Commons on Thursday.
"And we have contacted both [Facebook owner] Meta and TikTok to implore them to stop streaming Russia Today via their own online platforms.
"It is my absolute position that we will not stop until we have persuaded every organisation, based in the UK or not, that is the wrong thing to do to stream Russian propaganda into British homes."

10pm, Wednesday 22nd June.
BBC have made changes to Saturday's evening schedule with Casualty now airing just one episode from 9:20pm rather than a double bill which was scheduled 8:40-10pm, due to the dropping of one episode as a result of the recent school shooting in America due to the main story in that dropped episode centring on a school shooting.

The Brit Awards are moving to a Saturday for the first time next year. They'll take place on Saturday 11th February
BBC schedules cancelled until at least 6pm due to the rolling news coverage of The Queen's health.
All programmes on BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 shelved due to The Queen passing away.
No chance of any normal programming on any of the five main channels until at least 6am now I’d say.
Here in Ireland, the six o'clock news was extended by half an hour to 7.30. RTE then went back to their normal schedule.
BBC 1 is showing non stop News all day today, whereas BBC 2 stopped simulcasting the news at 6am.
I know people were saying that the BBC wouldn’t show comedy for 10 days, but that doesn’t seem to be the case looking at BBC Three’s schedule tonight.
