And not before time! Can’t wait!

So glad they're giving us another one. I was worried they were going to leave it all how the 2019 special ended, but hopefully this one can be a big last hurrah with everything wholesome and complete heart.gif

This is brilliant news, love the show, and loved the last Christmas special, this really is something great to look forward to.

Ruth Jones seems to have shut down the Christmas Special Rumour

She says a lot of words… but calls it a “rumour” and doesn’t actually say it’s not happening. laugh.gif

I’ve seen a few journalists say that Deadline wouldn’t have reported on it if they weren’t sure, so I expect there will be an official announcement a few months from now.

Will be a shame if it doesn't happen.

Can’t wait! I honestly didn’t realise it’s been nearly 5 years since the last special. It feels like it was only on a couple of years ago.

Posted by: Calum 3rd May 2024, 10:09 AM

Can’t wait for this! Ruth Jones was clearly just trying to keep it quiet then by saying it was nonsense laugh.gif

The wording was very clever looking back. She didn’t say there wouldn’t be a Christmas special this year. She said the rumour of a bidding war between the BBC and Netflix wasn’t true. I’m glad but kind of disappointed they are going for a finale instead just churning out specials for the sake of it because you could ruin the show doing that.

I guess they want to wrap it up properly while they can, as some of the older cast are in their late 70s now.

I think it's brave to say it's a definitive finale, because you can't really do any more after that.

Well, you can, but it's a bit odd.

I don't think it's that odd. The shows donkeys years old now and it's probably about time it got a proper closure.

Expect it will do very good ratings as part of an impressive BBC Christmas Day lineup (maybe switch EE and CTM round):

Something like
16:30 Wallace and Gromit
18:00 BBC News
18:10 Doctor Who
19:00 Call the Midwife
20:00 EastEnders
21:00 Gavin and Stacey

Ywah, big shows starting around 7 through 10, so they'll need something else big on just after

Sorry, when I say it's odd, I mean when shows do "final ever" shows but then return a few years later.

I was unclear, apologies. I don't think G&S ever did that necessarily, unless they did.

Im really looking forward to it and im fine with its the final episode as it gives closure to everything and leaves a great legacy behind.

The filming is getting great press and social media exposure.

Posted by: T Boy 8th September 2024, 09:07 AM

I’m annoyed because I was literally on Barry Island on Thursday 29th on holiday and they were nowhere to be seen and as soon as I go back to work, there’s picture of the filming everywhere!

Posted by: Steve201 8th September 2024, 10:27 PM

Makes sense I guess it’s bound to be quieter now the schools are back!

Posted by: Padamic_Tension 9th September 2024, 09:29 PM

Id love to be there to see some of the filming as it would be a unique experience.

Posted by: Calum 13th September 2024, 08:54 PM

Seem to recall there was an article at one point saying Neil the Baby wouldn't be back for the final episode, but he's been spotted filming apparently! And Sheridan Smith has also been spotted filming too. Looks like they're going all out to have one final celebration of the whole show which is great to see!
