A new thread ahead of the first episode of a brand new schedule - EastEnders now airing at a permeant spot of 7.30pm from Monday through to Thursday.
Here we go then! Should be a big week with the climax of Gray's story and the opening up of the new set.
Maybe they should chuck in a new opening titles for good measure
Lovely little nod in the first scene to the new set
A BTS look at the new set has been posted online
It may have taken 18 months but it’s good to see Mitch and Karen finally play a part in the aftermath of Chantelle’s death.p
Tense scenes with Gray and Chelsea! First time in a while I've felt totally engrossed in an episode. Looking forward to tomorrow's!
Edit: Ah, it was a Simon Ashdown episode. Makes sense.
So I had a dream last night which played out Gray’s downfall. It was set in a car park and shopping centre and he died by escalator!
This episode is spectacular. Absolutely gripped!
This episode is spectacular. Absolutely gripped!
Wow!!! that was gripping from start to finish and shouting at the TV I knew some other characters are about to bow out, Mitch, Mick, I thought one of them would do him in. That stare at Karen was just stone cold at the end, just made me shiver
That was brilliant, for all the faults this story had along the way, that is how you stick a landing. I was literally cheering when Mitch grabbed Gray’s hand as there’s no way a cop out death would have been good enough. Whitney was amazing too. Only gripe, and barely one at that, is that Kheerat didn’t feature at all.
Oh wow what an incredible episode! The best episode in absolute years, I’m glad Gray didn’t die. Toby who plays Gray is a great actor, it’ll be sad to see him go.
The last two episodes were a fantastic climax to what was a ropey storyline at times. I'm glad Gray left alive in a police car and didn't get a death cop out. And finally a reveal that he killed Kush too!
Ya the ending has been very good which is a relief as I think they got lost with this storyline at times and veered away from what i felt it was originally about. I was expecting another trevor and little mo storyline which was handled fantastically.
Eastenders getting DESTROYED by Emmerdale Farm, as we all predicted. Emmerdale Farm is even besting CORONATION STREET, ans is now the biggest soap. Ironic that EE tried to kill off Emmersale Farm when it first started by running in the same slot, ans npw Emmerdale Farm is doing that to Eastenders!! Runour has it EE will get axed.
Surely it’d be a bit foolish to axe Eastenders after spending all that money on a new set.
Yeah they know exactly what they're doing with running it in the timeslot it has. To be fair to them, I don't think the actual live viewing figures matter much when the show itself gets millions of additional viewers on iPlayer every time it airs (13.4 million streams in 2 weeks last summer for example). The appetite for television is shifting to streaming; whilst they want to keep those that are loyal and watch it live, I don't think they ultimately feel bothered by Emmerdale's presence. The show has a strong online presence on social media too. Like T Boy says, a new set has been in production and is now on TV despite the dwindling viewing figures, it isn't everything.
Ya I think eastenders is doing well on catch up and the press are presenting the live figures only to make it look worse, when everything is combined I doubt there is much between emmerdale and eastenders.
Just catching up on Thursdays episode and it was brilliant from everyone involved. If the Soap Awards make a return this year I could definitely see Toby who plays Gray and the storyline in general picking up a few awards .
Emmerdale is winning all the rewards.
I think they flopped a bit with the ending, as they should have gone for a darker Whitney. They should have had her ENCOURAGE him to jump, showing her dark side. Grey could have started to jump, slipped, started hanging on, with Whitney going to stamp on his hands, etc. Then Grey could have grabbed his hand from nowhere again, forcing Whitney to help him up. As is, it was just Saint Whitney again.
Actually, I think Whitney’s actions were appropriate for her character. She’d mentioned just the episode before how she wished Leo had faced justice rather than died and so didn’t want that for Gray. The fact that she found out about Kush and still wouldn’t let him fall shows a lot of character strength.
Another good episode tonight, I think they handled the aftermath quite well. None of the key players disappeared, except Mick and Shirley who had reason not to be on screen, and pretty much everything was addressed. Not the same thing, but I remember when a work colleague of mine ended up being arrested for peodophilia and the atmosphere for weeks was pretty much like the show tonight. Keegan especially resonated with me and how I felt at the time.
And I should have seen the Chelsea twist coming, partly because Pobol Y Cwm did a similar story a couple of years ago.
What an odd Tiffany return that was. I know it's soapland but hopping on a plane to and from Germany in one day to quickly scoop up Keegan was baffling but I guess it's better than him just leaving to go and find her. Impressive performance from Zack Morris this week, especially last night.
I'm also living for this Janine character development.
Returns for both Bernie and Vi by the end of the month to aid Stuart and Rainie's storyline.
Zack Morris was great this week . I think he could go on to potentially great things .
I thought it was a fitting exit for both Keegan and Tiffany .
I’d half hoped they’d binned the awful Vi off quietly.
Zack Morris?? EE literally stealing character names from Savds By The Bell now?! Who's next, A.C Slater?
Anyways, Keegan as a character always bothered me. Just so mopey and emotionally all over the place. I’m alright with his character leaving honestly. He got a great sendoff too.
Zack Morris who is playing Keegan on the show however was awesome at playing Keegan, I was waiting for them to loosen him up a bit but shame that never happened. Kudos Zach!
It’s been great viewing the last few weeks I must say. They’ve wrapped up a ton and we have the expanded set. They just need to focus on the story a bit more and I think we could be in for some good viewing.
The last 2-3 weeks have been great let's hope they can keep it going now.
I think the idea lf Jean spending over ten minutes of screen time on a bouncy castle was more appealing to the writers than the reality was for the viewers.
The closing scene with Stacey and Jean made up for the bouncy castle scenes.
Honey does not work as a market inspector, it appears a filler storyline unless there is a twist coming. Honey and Jay together are forgettable as a couple, which is a big disappointment after her coupling with Adam.
And those great Jean/Stacey scenes continued tonight. Was Arthur a different kid yesterday? Didn't notice he'd been recast until today
I didnt notice either until i read it in the paper
He was different yesterday as well. I wondered who got hurt on the bouncy castle as I didn’t recognise him.
Jean and Stacey are amazing.
Linda will be back properly from April 4th
I wonder when mick is leaving
'if he sings, this baby is never coming out'
Return confirmed for Ash Kaur
And despite the flurry of rumours over recent weeks, Adam Woodyatt is not returning to the show anytime soon.
I’m sure we’ll see Ian again one day but quite honestly, I haven’t missed him one bit. I actually forget he’s even gone.
Ian will def comeback someday but I dont miss him from the show at all.

A EE legend passes away
Poor Dot
RIP June, a real Eastenders legend, its a huge shame the way she left the show as i would have preferred her to have had a proper exit but she will always be remembered.
Her monologue she did back in 2008 was magnificent and quite emotional, I think it was called 'Pretty Baby....'. RIP June Brown.
its such a shame... also because her exit from EE was rather sour.
RIP June. What a legend. It’s a shame Dot ended the way she did but I expect we’ll get a massive funeral on screen at some point if the next year that will be a fitting tribute. June knew her character so well and could pretty much carry off anything.
No doubt they will do an on screen funeral but i agree its a shame her exit was very sour as a character like Dot deserved a proper exit. The cast who worked with both June and Barbara will be really feeling it as thats 2 legends and iconic characters that are now no longer with us from the show.
They never did an "In loving memory of…" for Leonard Fenton when he died in January at the end of the first episode to be broadcast since his death
No wonder Linda hits the bottle, her family don’t even try to help her.
Janine and Sonia have been living together for months. We need more scenes of them together.
A welcome guest cameo from Sean.
Good to see Sean making the surprise cameo, for years i thought he would never be seen on the show again and he has done 3 short stints now which is good. Id say this wont be the last either, id love to know how much an actor would get paid for a cameo like that.
Sam Mitchell will be back on screen from April 19th
I love that Annie is as ginger as her namesake and that no one would ever have been convinced she was Mick’s daughter.
Former EastEnders actress Melanie Clark Pullen has sadly passed away at the young age of 46.
Good thing Sharon’s place has been upgraded to a Tardis now that everyone and their baby is moving in.
Jean, her scenes are equally hilarious and heartbreaking. Gillian plays these scenes magnificently.
Linda, great having her back on the show.
I think eastenders have a habit of just adding on some extra rooms without mention to these houses. Meant to post before Letita Dean looks really well she has lost so much weight but it all seemed to have happened quickly but fair play to her as its not easy. Linda, drunk Linda is just brilliant, i like her character sober aswell but i think Kellie is just brilliant playing a drunk and there is part of me hat doesnt want it to end. Im interested in where they will take her character in the future now that we know for sure there is no happy ever after for her and Mick.
Bryan Kirkwood has returned to the show in a writing capacity. His first ep will go out on April 25th
They need Simon Ashdown on a full time basis in the script department to give his experience to some of the existing team.
Some of the scriptwriters need to learn to research the characters they write for more.
Welcome back Kim, she looks great.
It’s good to see MY Sam Mitchell back. Nice cheeky line there at the end that may as well have been Medcalf herself talking.
Interesting to see what the storyline will be, i was sure Phil would turn informant to get out of prison, so they must have a new angle as we know they wont keep him in jail.
I think I remember reading somewhere that Phil isn't actually back on the Square until the the start of June so I'm not sure what he'll be up to for the next few weeks
He is probably having some time off. I wonder will Sam be returning to the vic when mick goes.
Is Janine still living with Kat?? What a damp squid of a comeback!
Why?!?!
Kim is doing a pretty good job of tying all the versions of Sam that have gone before together. Not sure I buy Ricky not recognising her though even though they’ve both changed heads since the last time they saw each other. If he can’t remember the woman who raised him for the first six years of his life then surely he can’t remember living abroad, Peggy, Grant, etc. Oh well.
That was a great episode nice to see Kim Medcalf back and she was brilliant
"I can smell a lying bitch when i see one" brilliant!
Kim Medcalf done a great job that episode loving having Sam back .
She was always the better Sam tbh, and she make sthe cgaracter one you love to hate. I forgot why Kat and Sharon hated her, till they explained what she'd done She's why Zoey is on the lamb!!!
I think we're well-overdue a Slaters revival.
Quick question!! Sharon's line about Brexshit and Covid was hilarious, BUT now we know Brexshit has happened in Eastenders. So! How did Tiffany go to Germany and casually take Teegan along, and how did Sam give Ben a flat in Spain for 6 months???
Because a lot of those things happened unrealistically in EE before Brexit so it’s not really a big deal that they still do.
A former EastEnders actress who shouted "black lives don't matter" outside a fish and chip restaurant has been sentenced to a community order.
Katie Jarvis, who played Hayley Slater from 2018 to 2019, was arrested in Southend-on-Sea, Essex in July 2020.
Basildon Crown Court heard the 30-year-old got into a dispute with a group of women and later spat towards a bouncer.
Jarvis, of Rainham in east London, admitted racially aggravated harassment and common assault on Tuesday.
Cyrus Shroff, prosecuting, said tensions flared over seating outside the restaurant, at about 19:30 BST on 31 July.
They should replace her and bring baxk Hayley Slater as someone else.
No thanks. Best to forget Hayley Slater ever existed. It wasn’t a pleasant year.
LOVING Kim Medcalf. She was MY Sam too - I adored her during the Watts v Mitchells storylines, and of course, Den's murder. It's early days but so far they are doing a great job of acknowledging the storylines that Kim herself was a part of, whilst also giving her the personality of Daniella's more recent stints - all with a bit more class though. Long may she continue!
Not Jack in another ‘I’m the perfect parent’ storyline but then I knew this was coming. I did love the scene between Sam and Denise though.
I didn't watch when Daniella was back. Was she a bigger hard bitch? Sam back in the early 2000s was mainly a businesswoman, and a bit limp at times, like camp Shaeon pretending to be hard.
Jack and Max have always been two of thr worst ever characters on EE and symbolic of its sexism. Axe them both!!!
Max had great storylines and I always thought a great actor and the character was entertaining most of the time as he had a few sides to him, jack doesnt and just pouts his way through every scene he is in.
Eastenders to air first Male Rape Storyline
https://www.thesun.co.uk/tv/18350241/eastenders-line-up-shocking-gay-rape-storyline/amp/
Lewis will!rape Ben in upcoming scenes.
This is something long overdue covering in EE but why Ben? It’s always Ben.
My exact thoughts, Ben is over used for far too long
Ben can never catch a break there always putting him through misery it would have actually been nice for him to just live a normal life with Callum tbh . Also I was gonna say I was rather liking Lewis the bar man so it’s a shame there taking him down this route also .
That was a tearjerker, a very emotional episode, brilliant acting
A fantastic week of episodes that! Tonight's ending was amazing
Ya it's been a great week of episodes so let's hope they can keep building on them.
Everyone is reading wayyyy too much into this but imagine if she did come back
Just rewatched Thursday’s episode as I’d been to the cinema that night and by the time I got home I was so tired I was falling asleep. An episode *.*
Gillian Wright and Lacey Turner are the best actors in the cast.
Thursday's night episode ending that was very powerful. Impeccable acting from Gillian Wright and Lacey Turner.
In real life surely Scarlett would end up with Janine now whose nose has been pretty clean in recent months over Kat whose shacked up with a man in prison, has a son involved in a stabbing and lives with two ex cons and a woman who’s just been sectioned.
But what do I know?
Even if I could buy that Janine would automatically forget about Scarlett in this episode, I can’t quite buy Mick doing the same or Sonia not having a night in.
With Janine and mick I'm assuming she is playing mick with the view to getting her hands on the pub which is what I think will lead to micks exit, he works it out and leaves the pub in Linda's hands who I also think will be sober then and they will part on good terms.
Ah there's the Janine we've missed. Even Butcher's Joints getting a mention *.*
Also !!! at this, it's been bugging me all evening where I recognised her from. Scamming Queen.
That ending, This Linda v Janine feud is already potentially a great EastEnders rivalry.
I love the rivalry and was delighted to see Linda winning this round, for now anyway
Prince Charles and Camilla's appearance on the set a few weeks ago has now been confirmed to be an actual appearance in the show on June 2nd for the Jubilee.
Going to be very trippy seeing them on the set and, presumably, interacting with some characters! I believe Charles previously turned down the opportunity to appear live on Coronation Street for the 40th anniversary but did feature in a pre-recorded segment where several characters watched him on TV presenting Audrey with an award for something.
Linda, Stacey and Jean are really putting in some great scenes as is Janine, and hats to Lily aswell i think she has some great potential. Im looking forward to the Linda and Janine feud in the weeks ahead and im assuming this will be the end of Lindas drinking storyline for a while and the concentration will be on her waiting sober.
Was there any point in giving Isaac a character assassination now he’s left? The relationship was so undeveloped anyway I don’t think anyone would have noticed if Lola had never mentioned him again.
That's perhaps one of the ones things I do not like about soap exits especially when they've had a half decent storyline. Isaac's mental health storyline was propped up by Lola and the writers have just annihilated all of that with a simple Instagram post
Ya i agree, and i think Eastenders in general have got awful bad with exists in the last few years, there was a time when it was totally the opposite and exits were huge nowadays for many its like they get punished with a shit exit when they decide to leave. Gray managed to get a decent enough exit but for others they havnt been so lucky.
They knew Isaac was going so why not give him and Lola a story where they break up or at least where they hint the relationship won’t last because of the distance. Lola being dumped by an Instagram post is very wtf and she’s back to basically being a background character.
Cringed through the royalist propaganda scene, already dreading the cameo.
And that scene in a nutshell is why bringing Jean home after what, a week, was one of the most idiotic decisions Stacey has made in her life.
An idiotic move but Stacey's intentions were in the right place.
At the bottom line of it all is just Stacey wanting to look after her mum, just like we saw 17 years ago when Jean first came into it and it's great that we still see that level of a relationship between them making it more relatable to real life. I can't help but feel for Stacey, especially when she just wants Jean to recognise that she's trying to help her
Apparently we’re getting a special jubilee them tune and the thought is just horrific.
I can only slightly accept this if it is played on trumpet by Natalie Cassidy.
Do you know what that was executed in the best way and both Charles and Camilla came across really well on screen. The jubilee theme wasn't tacky either
It certainly could have been worse I guess, but I hope that’s it now in terms of fawning over the Royal Family, I’m not a fan. It’s also an unrealistic depiction that everyone in Albert Square is but there you go.
At the very least, Charles and Camilla put in better performances as themselves than Ed Sheeran managed to in Yesterday so that’s something.
I thought it was one of the best ever episodes of Eastenders. Felt like such a moment.
But I’m a royal fan and fully believe they have all done so much for our country.
That was a great feel good episode .
If only this had been the scene.
https://www.thesun.ie/tv/8904381/eastenders-killed-off-lola-pearce/
Chris Clenshaw making his mark already then always happens with a change of producer. She's not exactly got anything to do now I guess
She never has anything to do! She was only brought back for Ben to get a child to interact with.
As an actress she is capable but she has got crap storylines and was always sidelined. I hope Chris reduces the amount of Ben screen time as he way over used so I'm hoping he will spread the focus across multiple characters. There is a few that do need to go unless they are given some good storylines,
Shame Lola had to go there wasn't really much storylines for her.
This must be the news
https://mobile.twitter.com/bbceastenders/status/1533901539500208129
There’s a busy summer in store for Mitch when his estranged brother Avery, played by
@omarlyefookMBE
, and two nephews, played by @matthew_james_morrison and Ashley Byam turn up in Albert Square.
Another really solid episode, Janine is just on form right now! Spent the whole episode thinking that was it for Linda and it has been kept under wraps
It’s hard to see how Janine will get out of this one long term. She has been cracking these past episodes but if she does ultimately get out of this, I do hope she gets storylines away from the Carters following Mick’s exit.
Spoilers from Inside Soap magazine for the w/c 20th June -
- A party at the Albert to remember Tina ends in disaster....
- Chelsea becomes worried about baby Jordan's health....
- Stuart's recent actions have consequences for Rainie.
Another absolute crap exit
https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/eastenders/a40231629/eastenders-aaron-monroe-exit/
I don’t think that one really counts though. He was never going to come out of prison and his last scenes with Harvey were pretty final.
Most likely Ben will be involved in some respect in Lola's exit.
Exits confirmed for Stuart, Peter, Dana and Jada
Not sure how I feel about these. The first I think is a huge mistake, the second cannot possibly be recast AGAIN and the latter two seem like they haven’t been allowed to reach their full potential.
Wow those are some choices and some not very good ones either eep
Most of those needed to depart.
I predict a return for Max Branning.
Danny Dyer has pretty much confirmed Mick is getting killed off. He seems pretty happy to be going out with a bang but I think EastEnders are shooting themselves in the foot by cutting off any chance of probably the last iconic character the show is going to have from returning.
His exit will air over the Christmas/New Year period.
No loss at all. Mick is not iconic. Danny Dyer might be but outside of the first 18 months, Mick has been an awful character.
The only thing that makes me think this shouldn’t happen is that we’ll get Grieving Shirley 3.0. They can’t just keep killing everyone close to her.
Im surprised they are killing him off, i was sure the door be left open for a return, Eastenders done much better than i thought they would at the soap awards, and Letita Dean looks absolutely stuning picking up her life time achievement award,
Danny recently said
"I wish I could tell you more. In the next couple of months you'll learn a bit about what we're going to do but I can tell you it's huge. I want to go out in a way that's going to get people talking. It’s a thing that needs to be discussed more openly and I think it’s going to shock a few people"
Suicide?
Scarlett is so irritating, did she inherit nothing from her parents?
Hope Janine kills him!!
It's a BBTory show. Of course it was full of royalist propaganda.
EastEnders being moved to BBC Two from 27th June for two weeks cos of Wimbledon.
Ben has spent years putting on this fake 'hard man' persona of his too, so even his nearest and dearest must forget some days that he isn't.
I think if they had used Ben less in the run up to this storyline it would have worked better, he has had so much screen time the last few years it feels overkill although it might help give Kathy more screen time.
I guess you can just never overestimate the lack of understanding Linda’s family have for her illness.
Nancy in particular is horrific. Gutted she’s going to actually have a reason to be horrible to Zack, it was bad enough she was just doing it anyway.
I was never a huge Nancy fan and less so now as she is just a complete mood killer, Linda is by far the strongest and best character but i loved when aunt babe and stan were in it they were all the strong ones and i do like Shirley aswell,
Jessie Wallace was arrested for allegedly attacking a police officer at a nightclub.
https://metro.co.uk/2022/06/20/eastenders-star-jessie-wallace-arrested-after-attacking-cop-outside-nightclub-16858886/
Im surprised Jessie has held on to her job for so long as there has been so many incidents she has been involved with.
Not sure if it's been mentioned but starting from Monday morning 6am the whole week's episodes will be available to watch on iPlayer like they did previously
Can't fault the comedy coming through the writing at the moment
Just been catching up and good LORD Nancy is vile isn't she?
Mick and Nancy are both horrific characters who are always being written as victims at the expense of other characters.
Zack should run a mile.
This was a moment tho
I think overall the last couple of weeks has seen an improvement in episodes plus the episodes are involving a good few characters and and you can see they are laying the foundations for storylines, i hope they can keep building on this.
Did Harvey and Mitch’s discussion of toilet habits really have to last over a minute?
I have hope that Nancy will leave but I doubt we’ll get so lucky.
Are they bringing Suki's husband in or not? They keep referencing him but there's been no cast announcements.
So after that episode Nancy's exit has been confirmed
Not in any way disappointed about that.
Thank f*** for that. Stay away this time.
Thank goodness. What a hideously selfish character who doesn’t have any likeable qualities. She does not understand her mother’s addiction and makes it all about her. Laughable she thought she could look after Annie. Don’t know why they bothered bringing her back but good riddance.
Thank god she's gone, always disliked her! Insufferable character.
For anyone who's watched this week's first boxset will have seen another unannounced exit, this time for Rainie. I imagine Stuart will follow her in his own departure
Am so disappointed as I realky liked the character.
Gutted, I really liked her
Unsure if this is 100% confirmed yet “‘Metro “ is where I seen this but I’ve seen that Lola’s cause of death will be an in operable brain tumour.
If true I think it’ll be a really powerful way for the character to exit. Danielle who plays her I’d say is a great actress it’s just a shame the characters not really had that push / development.
If that’s how she’s set to depart though I think she’ll be leaving on a high. In a way I do think this is the best way to write her out if they have to kill her though as the shows just come off the back of a serial killer era so the more character focused non sensationalist stories they can do the better.
It’s a shame to see Rainie go and it’s annoying that she and Stuart split up as they’ve been my favourites the last couple of years. Tanya Franks never stays around though and we were lucky to get her for a four year stint.
I would have preferred for them to have had a happy ever after and left together as they were a well suited couple, it would have been noce to have a happy couple instead of splitting them,
The split/sudden depature of Rainie feels like it came out of absolutely nowhere
But wasn't Stuart meant to be an evil psycopath until his charactwr labotomy??
Return confirmed for Mo Harris as Laila Morse reprises the role for a short stint
Mitch's family will appear from Monday
MO is not an important character but is enjoyable for light hearted moments.
I think Rainie will return for Stuart's exit.
https://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/eastenders/a40501483/eastenders-dot-cotton-first-scene-recreate-sonia-kathy/
I didn't click onto this reference last night, but what a lovely, subtle tribute to June Brown on what marks 37 years since the character first appeared.
RIP to Mona Hammond who played Blossom Jackson from 1994-97 and 2010. I've enjoyed watching her scenes on the Classic EastEnders repeats as the matriarchal figure of the Jackson family.
Apparently it was Chris Clenshaw's first week on screen as EP. Not off to a great start
Return confirmed for Alfie Moon
I could see that coming.
Oh no, not one i wanted,
Just watched this week's batch of episodes, it was definitely better than last week.
A certain returnee appearing sooner than I ever anticipated!
Also the exit for Peter was probably the most the character has done in months and Dayle did it well. Shame he wasn't like that before
That exit came much quicker than i expected but im fine with it as not a character i will miss.
Peter was pretty much wasted this time around and they made no attempt to make him likeable. I did like his ranting at the end though, plenty of home truths. Kathy really has acted abysmally over all of this. She protected Ben pretty immediately even before she knew about the rape.
Bobby Brazier (Jady Goody's and Jeff Brazier's son) has joined the cast and will be playing Little Mo's son Freddie.
Just had to research because i couldnt quite believe that Jade Goody or Little Mo would have a son that age but it all adds up-I’m old.
Surely this is setting up for a Little Mo return?
A special flashback episode focusing on the Mitchell family in 1979 will be airing to tie in with Phil's informant storyline. Jaime Winstone will play Peggy (having previously portrayed Barbra Windsor in biopic Babs). We will also get Eric (Peggy's husband), Charlie (Billy's brother), Stephen (Billy's father), Archie, Glenda, Ronnie and Roxy all in their younger selves. Phil, Grant and Billy will also appear.
Another solid week. I'm a little frustrated that Callum seems to be the only one that doesn't know what's happened to Ben and no one wants to tell him??
Nice to see #41 Albert Square again with the Panesars now moved in, last owned by the Masoods (Iqra was essentially the last person to live there but we rarely saw the inside).
Samantha Womback has sadly announced that she’s battling cancer.
I've been watching on iPlayer for the past few weeks back to back, with the Euro football and the Commonwealth Games clashing with it.
Its a very interesting week, that's all I'm going to say. a lot of things are moving fast. and Sausage Surprise
LITTLE MOOOOOOO!!!!
COME BACK!!!!
In fact, bring ALL the Slaters back!!!!!
I'm not here for them recasting Abbie Burke away from the role of Amy, she was a star in the making.
Great week for the Panesars/Gulatis though, a fantastic storyline for Suki.
I think Suki is my favourite character right now, such a complex, unpredictable character. Kheerat is great too. I'm not mad on the rest of the family but those two have been such great additions to the show.
Suki is such a complex and fascinating character portrayed absolutely brilliantly by Balvinder. I really can't imagine the show without her at this point.
Been watching Eastenders 2010 and just came across this again:
Return confirmed for Ricky Butcher
Alfie Moon needs slappin darrrn
Any news on a Hayley Slater recast yet? Any news on Littlr Mo and Lynne?
I'm happy with that return, one of those characters that's feels like a comfy blanket when watching the show.
Alfie and now him? No thanks.
I'm not looking forward to alfies return either.
It's worth noting that Ricky's return is not permanent before people get their knickers in a twist. I'm liking all of these legacy returns, it makes the show more realistic to have people come and go. It's odd when people can't/don't visit, attend weddings, funerals etc so it feels like a little more effort is going into that.
I'm still waiting on a Libby return tbh. It feels inevitable given Holby City's now done. Just hoping they're waiting for the right moment to bring Belinda back to the fold and they don't recast
Yeah I’m not really bothered about these returns either. It’s good to see familiar characters pop up every now and then.
Hopefully it's Alfie who is just pooping in and then out
Alfie's return needs to be as short as possible.
First Alfie now Ricky.. why?
A funeral episode for a character who was on the show for a week.
Jesus, this thread, Liam’s last post aside, is a bleak read right now, quite the opposite of what I’m feeling towards the show. Cheer up guys!
Poor Ricky Champ with that plaque error there. Stuart doesn’t look near 55 so he definitely wasn’t born in 1967 plus with Mick being established as born 1977, we assume Stuart was too.
Sonia needs to find a partner. She hasn’t had a long term one since Tina who has not only been dead for nearly two years, but since their relationship ended, Whitney had had time for two weddings and four fiancés.
Given how horrendously Mick has always treated Linda, I can’t understand a) why he’s the first person she turns to when upset or b) why the writers are setting up a happy ending reunion for them.
Rainie! Wasn’t expecting to see her back!
Love Janine shading Tracey
It was another good week. It just disappoints me that EastEnders writers do not know how to deal with their teenage cast at all. What on Earth was that drugs storyline?
Janine is so horrible, I love her
Honestly not sure why Jada has been axed, so much potential if they’d just use her. She hasn’t really been given a chance.
Im glad Jada is axed, i dont find the actress great at all.
Exit confirmed for Frankie, though this was announced a week ago and it passed me by!
I did hear about that one. It’s a shame but not unexpected and it’s not like that character is getting stories at the moment.
Sad to see the end of Stuart and Rainie but loving that they got a happy ending.
"Oh sod off Janine"
I wonder if Kellie Bright is leaving the show? Surely they're setting up Mick and Linda having their happy ending and leaving together?
The 1979 flashback episode will air on September 5th
EastEnders will say goodbye to Dot later this Autumn in a special episode
https://www.atvtoday.co.uk/208020-bbc/
Navin Chowdhry (Teachers, A Touch of Cloth, The End of the F*****g World) has been cast as Nish Panesar (Suki's husband)
That’s an interesting casting. I remember watching him in Teachers.
They are taking a few liberties with the Janine vs Linda plot when it comes to the writing. That recording that Janine bribed Jada with was much more incriminating for Janine and Jada has been shown to be a lot more street smart than that in the past. I also did not believe that Linda would not get a custodial sentence.
Guess Jada will be gone by the end of the week at this rate then. Can't see Janine getting away with any of this and everything will be exposed either by then or in the next couple of weeks.
Yeah it’s a struggle to see how Janine will get out of this one-I’m partially worried this means she might leave. I really want to see her away from the Carters. Mick needs to go asap.
Not very convinced with Jaffa’s exit. She could actually drop Janine in it and I’m not sure why she was so reluctant to. It was a very different scenario than covering for Stuart about the drugs.
I am envisaging some kind of casual moment where Scarlett will just drop her in it to Mick or something. I'm very surprised at how she's kept so quiet when usually she's the first to speak out about her mum. I guess she doesn't want to risk losing her?
10 years ago today. x
An absolute low point. Isn’t that when they all used to sing ‘we love you Kat Moon’? *shudders*
Can we all just appreciate how great Eve is?
The episodes the last couple of weeks have all been fairly solid.
I had a feeling Frankie’s photo would become significant but I’m still not sure how it’ll all pan out.
Keeble supposedly having a ‘personal vendetta’ against the Mitchells doesn’t really sit right. In fact it only makes any sense if she’s had a recent discovery as in all her previous stints she’s not taken the slightest bit of interest in them. I guess we’ll find out in Monday’s flashback.
I don't recall Keeble having any involvement with them previously? Thought it was Marsden with the Mitchell vendetta (bring her back tbh)
Lots of speculation online that Keeble and Phil are related
Kellie Bright is such a great actress, I think she always nails everything she does, herself Lacey and Gillian are excellent actresses and never fail to disappoint. Charlie is great aswell but I just think the other 3 are ahead of her.
Spoiler for Freddie's first storyline: He returns having grown up thinking Billy is his father. Will be interesting as Billy rejected him and Little Mo when he was born because he wasn't his.
Sooo he's basically gonna end up being Billie's replacement for Lola?!
Ya it looks like that which isn't a good thing.
Talk about a blast from the past episode with the Mitchells, Glenda, Archie, Roxanne and Ronnie
Haven't watched for a while but I tuned in for that.
The casting was incredible as were the actors playing the parts of their current day counterparts; they have clearly studied the subtle mannerisms of the characters they were playing!
I enjoyed the episode, however I wish it was for a more engrossing storyline and not about a random policewoman's(?) vendetta. Is Keeble a key enough character to warrant such a deep backstory and unique episode - I'm not sure as I haven't watched properly in a while.
Overall, great concept, executed brilliantly, but a limp plot to go with it. I want to get back into EE but the storylines have to be stronger.
The standout casting choice for me was the actor who took on the younger Phil role! There was a line during the fight with his dad that sounded exactly like Steve McFadden, if I closed my eyes I would've believed it was him. The mannerisms were on point too, as touched upon by Bal above.
I hadn't watched EE since the Christmas period (as per usual) but I was intrigued by this flashback episode after seeing the trailer and wondered where the show was at, so I checked out an episode on iPlayer and that ended up becoming a binge, during my first mega lazy weekend in ages I'm usually quite quick to give up after Christmas, as the show hasn't built upon that festive momentum effectively enough for me in recent years. Plus I haven't watched regularly since 2015, so it could be quite hard to follow when jumping back in randomly. But I'm slowly filling in gaps after watching these episodes back-to-back and Google has been handy for the family trees and relationships nowadays. I'll aim to continue catching up and then try and watch regularly in real-time again!
Very good casting all round-particularly Phil! Somehow even the young Ronnie and Keeble also seemed very convincing as their characters despite their young ages.
I’m just not sure it fits though. I pointed out earlier how it’s odd that Keeble had this never before mentioned vendetta despite her featuring heavily in 2008 and 2014-16. I do love her screen presence though.
Keeble having a personal vendetta against the Mitchells does feel a bit forced, I don't feel there was any evidence of that coming across in the past. It was always Marsden who had a vendetta against Phil.
Regardless of that though I really enjoyed the flashback episode, the casting was good for all the characters, especially Phil as others have pointed out and it was an enjoyable watch. Other than the Keeble angle I think they did pretty well staying consistent with what we know about the Mitchell family history.
I'm wondering if it is a Mitchell vendetta or really she's just following a line of enquiry which has led her to them hence why it hasn't been brought up until now? The police would've been aware what Eric was doing in the 70s and 80s but perhaps have never had enough to pin the crimes to the Mitchell family. Someone would've put Billy in the frame for being there that day, but I can't see Phil ratting him out and that was kind of hinted at in the flashback.
Just as I thought, she'd had some leads come in. That now explains the sudden focus on Phil from when he was in prison. I do wonder where this is going, didn't expect him to throw Billy under the bus but I guess he's going to protect the rest of his family. Will Keeble meet a Christmassy fatal end?
OMFG HAVE THEY DONE THR FLASHBACK EPISODE ALREADY?! WHAT WAS THE IN-SHOW REASONING FOR IT? ARE WE GETTINF MORE?!
Yes it was yesterday and read the posts above which explains it was backstory to why Keeble wants Phil to be an informant.
I have to say I cannot see this wedding going through, Phil and Kat both seem completely unenthused by the prospect. Stupid Sharon still holding a candle for Phil tho
I think it will go through purely to facilitate a Sharon and Phil affair where they get back together although for me i think they should keep apart as i think it opens more storylines for each of them although i am tired of Phil as i think the tough man image isnt plausible anymore so they should try and take him in a new direction. Sharon as a character is alot more diverse than Phil. I think Sharon and Phil are like Charity and Cain in Emmerdale and one of the new producers came in and was like as long as they are in charge they will never back together which was right and it worked out better for both characters,
The flashback episode was good with some excellent casting.
If anyone is tuning in to watch Eastenders tonight it might be suspended due to the extended news following the passing of our Queen.
Airing this evening at 7:30pm on BBC Two instead
Honey getting her moment *.*
Also didn’t have Bert and Ernie down for bringing Alfie back.
Im starting to feel confident about Chris Clenshaw as exec producer, he is def starting off well as i think the episodes in general have really good lately, it will take him time to really put his stamp on the show but for me i think the early signs are good.
All eps are on iPlayer only this week from 7:30pm
I knew they had to, but the inserted scene about the Queen was a bit overdone tbh.
Jean’s ‘don’t patronise me, I’ve watched Top Gear’ sent me
Jury’s still out on Freddie. I really want to give him a chance but he’s not giving me anything Little Mo right now.
Could Freddie have ADHD? I don't think EE has covered anything like that before (Ollie aside but hes a lot younger) but his behaviour this week is making me question
Uff that Queen scene was a bit over-the-top! The actresses sounded like high school drama kids doing a scene! I just didn't believe the characters.
A scene between Kathy, Sharon and Shirley and yet Tracey still steals it *.*
Line of the year from Tracey.
Didn't Kat get sliced by a boat back in Redwater?
Alfie has bought the Dingle van.
Mo could at least give Lola back the £20 she put up.
Say what you will about Alfie, but Kat has way more chemistry with him than she does with Phil.
Alfie and Kat they were one of the memorable couples in EastEnders.
I think Ireland got mentioned once but it was really throwaway and didn’t actually allude to any of the details of Redwater. They said it would be mentioned Christmas 2018 when Alfie was back but it seemed that the scene had been cut.
It was a dreadful retcon anyway, making Zoe a twin.
I managed to completely forget about Redwater, almost hard to believe that existed. Just looking back again at the pics, Kat and Alfie seemed to dress and look like they never had before, yet regained their old fashion sense as soon as they returned to the square
I've seen on TikTok that Fatboy was back on set recently, likely to be for Dot's exit. Dead or alive though? Who knows.
How could he be alive? I mean, we didn’t see the body but there was a good reason for that.
I would love for Fat Boy/Vincent to return.
We haven't had a return from the dead this decade yet which seems to be tradition now so maybe it's him.
I don't even remember who knows about his "death" on the Square anymore? I know a lot of people were led to believe he just left
Literally only Vincent knew and he’s also supposedly dead. Perhaps Claudette knew but I don’t remember. I do remember him sparing Ronnie knowing that she inadvertently had him killed and he sent Dot a fake postcard from him.
So I looked it up and it was Vincent, Claudette and Donna that knew, no one else.
Did Donna and Fatboy almost get it on or am I making that up in my head?
What do you think the main storyline will be at Christmas?
I really can’t see this baby of Jasmine’s coming into fruition even though I’d quite like to see her become a mother again. I’m gonna say miscarriage and lie to try and keep Mick.
So EastEnders are going for the Alfie chasing Kat and making Phil jealous storyline?
Looks a bit like that, now usually im not a fan of Alfie but so far i am enjoying his return, shane and jessie have great on screen chemistry.
This is definitely heading towards a Kat and Alfie reunion and there'll be no marriage to Phil
Definitely will be Micks exit and Janine getting found out.
Festive filming begins this week. The Christmas tree is up in the Square and the Vic is decorated to support England in the World Cup
I think all we know so far is Mick's exit is expected to be then and Tiffany comes back for a brief stint
Tiffany’s coming back?
So Rose Ayling-Ellis was right, there’s absolutely no way Frankie would have overheard Janine so many times especially when non deaf people seemed to be absolutely oblivious. I’ll miss Frankie even though her exit was ludicrous. A school hiring a TA to work with a deaf girl who is planning to move to Scotland 2 weeks later? Bizarre!
Mick is such a hopeless father, I honestly don’t know why he’s heralded the opposite. Perhaps he can teach rocky how to cold shoulder Dotty into suicide?
I am glad we have Dotty fully confirmed as Dot’s granddaughter. I never quite believed the twist but definitely wanted this outcome following June Brown’s death.
And there’s no way this baby is surviving for Janine. Then again, do we really need another Scarlett?
https://www.thesun.ie/tv/9462224/charlie-brooks-leave-soap-eastenders-after-dramatic-return/
Sigh. I can't blame her. In general she's been used terribly.
That’s a shame, we waited so long for her to come back and it feels like she’s barely been used and she’s been wasted on an exhausting Carter storyline. They haven’t even explored her ‘missing’ years so she may as well have not come back at all.
It did feel like she was being written into a corner basically from the moment of the car crash. Tbh it’s felt like Mel when she was leaving.
So many good characters have already gone this year. At least we’re losing the atrocious Mick.
Worst Janine run EVER. WTF was that?! And why did she come back poor?
I'd say she only returned for the money which is understandable as there is no way she returned because she got a mind blowing storyline.Hopefully she at the least gets a great exit.
She probably did return for the storylines but then wasn’t given them. It’s like how I compared it to Mel. She had a couple of good months and was then thrown into the latest exhausting Carter merry go round.
Mel at a lukewarm return but her last couple of weeks were great so the same might happen with Janine.
This makes sense. It would be crazy for her to stay in it when she gets found out about the car crash.
Hopefully, next time she comes back rich as shit and goes for revenge!!!!
Nugget needs to leave ASAP - such a pointless, aggravating character.
They also need to ditch this Scarlett if they’re indeed keeping her at all. The character absolutely grates and I kind of wish, given how starved of love Janine was throughout her life, her daughter would be the one person to show her unconditional love but it just doesn’t seem that way. I’ve also never bought the idea of Janine as a bad mother.
Ya if Scarlet is to stay they need a stronger actress and also some good storylines to build up the character if she is to stand any chance of been a long term or remembered character who could return on and off at any time.
Well Nina and Ravi reveal has SLAYED me
I was hoping that Nina would have a bit more depth. Couldn’t quite believe she’d be married to Ranveer for anything but his money and it was getting extremely unrealistic that she just wouldn’t notice or care that her husband hadn’t been in contact. That said, the reveal did still manage to shock me since I’d just assumed dodgy writing.
Havnt seen it yet but I'm intrigued now.
Recently saw this on Classic EE, how bloody brilliant this is.
Ok I’ve come to the conclusion that Freddie Slater is awful and needs to go. It’s a stunt casting with someone who just can’t act coupled with some horrendous writing. Nothing about him screams Little Mo. It reminds me of when Neighbours cast social media star Sarah Ellen as Madison Robinson and ruined the potential of Scott and Charlene’s daughter.
But I did like Bobby talking about Laura, she never gets a mention.
I will give Freddie a little more time but at this early point he looks to be an awful character.
So apparently they’re bringing Lauren back for Dot’s send off. Yes, she’s Dot’s step granddaughter but she literally had nothing to do with her when they were both in the show.
Just another reminder that they killed the wrong sister.
It would seem they will be one of many people returning that are yet to be announced
Some great two-hander scenes tonight with Kat/Sharon, Linda/Alfie, Kim/Karen.
They should NEVER have killed off Abbie, or Lola. They always kill off female characters on EE, yet make the men rich, powwrful and basically invincible. The producers LITERALLY threw two young actresses in front of Max's fetid wap in order to keep him on the show!!!
Abi wasn't a loss, she was annoying as hell.
She had way more potential left than Lauren. Abi was a great character in the end.
Annoying? So she had life and persobaloty then, whoch is more than what some of these cardboad cut outs have. We missed her becoming the new Janine, whilst failing miserably at it!!
Abi turned into a great character in her last few years with huge potential. Killing her off was ridiculous. I also thought killing Steven in the same storyline was incredibly stupid, especially the way it was dealt with.
How old is Vinny supposed to be? Not that old if he doesn't remember his father.
The ages of the Panesars have always been VAGUE. Suki is barely old enough to be their mother in real life.
Not as bad as Corrie, where two women who look like same age SISTERS are supposedly mother and daughter
That fight scene made me actually laugh out loud I like that it wasn't played seriously (at least I hope that was the intention!) and was over and done with in the first few minutes, I don't think I could have been bothered with half an hour of it.
Night scenes always seem to bring out the best in EastEnders and I thought there were some great character-led moments tonight. Loved the community talking about the fight when they got to the Vic, pretty sure I heard Honey bring up Billy previously being a postman which reminded me of some saga about Billy stealing the post that was never resolved! Linda and Shirley's scene upstairs in the Vic was great. I'm actually pretty on board with Lola and Jay and I thought they had really strong chemistry tonight - I'm ready for the emotional journey when Lola discovers she's got a terminal tumour.
Well this sucks. Metro are reporting that Suki is leaving.
Poor Lola Another actRESS AXED!!! WHY ALWAYS THE WOMEN?!
Jay and Lola is much better than Jay and Honey
I think it will only temporary.
Returns for Dot's funeral! From Digital Spy:
Now, the BBC has revealed that funeral scenes for Dot will feature former cast members Jacqueline Jossa (Lauren Branning), Lord Michael Cashman (Colin Russell), Gary Hailes (Barry Clark), Tom Watt (Lofty Holloway), Linda Davidson (Mary Smith) and Jan Graveson (Disa O'Brien) returning to Walford.
I thought Lofty and Mary would be back after they returned in 2019 for Dr. Legg's funeral and presumed Michael would be asked to return as Colin too, but didn't think Barry or Disa would be back! Fingers crossed Nigel, Claire, Charlie and Rose will return too though.
Quotes from all the returnees from BBC Press Office: https://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/2022/eastenders-stars-return-dot-branning-funeral
Who did you most want to return for Dot's final farewell?
Lots of behind-the-scenes photos of Dot's funeral: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-11308047/EastEnders-stars-including-Jacqueline-Jossa-return-Walford-Dot-Cottons-funeral.html
No Fatboy
Nigel is the biggest miss, given how close they were. I guess they'll have to come up with some excuse why Charlie isn't there since she's apparently being living with him too.
Ian is the other one that really should have been there but apparently Adam Woodyatt was unavailable due to other commitments so maybe they did try with that one... and i'm seriously doubting he actually wants to return at all at this point tbh.
I forgot about Ian but ya he really should be back for the funeral but if he has other commitments it's understandable.
What I don’t think Adam Woodyatt realises is that none of us are actually missing Ian anyway.
I’m struggling a bit with the new Amy. The last one was so sassy and full of personality. This one seems like a decent enough actress but she’s been thrust into EE’s ever horrendous teen storylines and that doesn’t help.
I actually rather enjoyed Amy's scenes this week. The rest of the teens can disappear into oblivion tbh.
Teen stories are almost never any good. It's like the writers have no idea what to do with them. I'm not a fan of the new Amy either, which doesn't help. She doesn't seem much of an improvement on the previous actor.
Teen stories have never been an EastEnders strong point.
Nugget seriously needs to go
The subtle start of Lola's storyline coming through now is heartbreaking as we know what's about to happen. The ripple effect will be massive for Jay / Ben / Callum / Lexi / Phil / Billy etc
The elderly couple in the hospital tonight were iconic *.*
This Lola storyline is going to be a difficult watch. I mean, at least they’re finally giving Danielle Harold something to actually play but it’s so unfortunate that this marks the end of her time on the show.
That fight scene! I actually full-on gasped when Kheerat's turban was removed. As a Sikh myself, I understand fully how disrespectful that is to happen to someone wearing a turban so to write that in and show it is incredibly brave from the producers. I really hope the follow-up is done well and respectfully.
I am absolutely loving the show again after abandoning it, giving up on it and not watching for a while. The Panesar family are incredible and the inclusion of Ravi too is great. What a cast they are - I really hope the producers leave them on the show and let them continue to grow and grow because they are drawing me in so much.
Also the Lola storyline is going to be a heart-breaking watch.
Can this momentum keep up! I feel like I can be on board with Eastenders again finally, but I don't want to speak too soon.
Definitely noticing how much better Chris Clenshaw is doing as a producer. It's making me a lot more interested in Christmas for the first time in about 5 years
Where is Sonia though? Last seen when, late September I think it was. I know the cast appearances can dip but we need our NHS Queen back thanks
Tonights episode was awesome.
Tears, fights and declarations of love.
Only started watching again about 2-3 months ago so think I tuned in just at the right time.
Agreed with other comments that the show is on the up at the moment. You could feel the shift coming in from a few months ago with some great writing for some Kat/Sharon/Sam scenes for example but it's really coming to fruition now.
I still think the fact they are killing Lola off after giving her bugger all to do up to this point is quite bitter though.
Ya there is that feel its turning the corner as they have a few strorylines building and there are dufferent characters involved. Lol and Jay storyline is going to be a hard watch but I feel it will be done well, tgey both have excellent onnscreen chemistry which also helps.
It's hardly a concrete source but some comments from Linda Robson suggest they are looking to cast Lola's long-lost mum, presumably for a small part in this storyline.
Cycling through all the possible material for her at record speed now they're killing her off? Praise for Danielle Harold's performance though, very strong.
Lola’s mum should have been covered in the 7 years that Lola has been in the show rather than her being shoved into the background for most of it. Actually, talk of Lola’s dad would be appreciated too given all I can remember is ‘oh he’s dead, what a shame’.
The show feels good at the moment, the only thing I can’t take to is Freddie. Bobby Brazier is fine but he doesn’t feel Freddie Slater to me. It feels like they wanted to cast the actor and then just stuck an existing name on him.
God that ending in the hospital last night with Lola and everyone really got me
According to The Sun (who always spot on when it comes to soap news), Lola's mum will be played by Patsy Kensit
That would be quite a good casting. She could do with playing a regular character.
I think its a great casting if they can get the character right and have a good storyline.
The casting has now been confirmed with scenes due to air around Christmas time
RIP Bill Loved watching his character in the Classic EastEnders repeats, I think he's such an underrated actor and he brought so much warmth and heart to the role of Arthur. Probably one of the most consistent characters in the show, always well acted and written for.
Fun fact: Bill was the first person cast in EastEnders!
"Bitches slap, Panesars punch". Loved that fight scene
This show recently (minus the scenes with this Don guy of course, lol?)
I just walked past the iconic Lindsey Coulson who was walking up the road I live on *.* Carol Jackson is such a legendary character.
Always liked Carol, and Lindsey is a great actress, i loved the Carol, Bianca and Dan storyline, Lindsey delivered such powerful scenes during the reveal and she done the same with the scene where Billie died,
Agreed, I was so happy she came back for a few years, an incredibly powerful actress.
I also echo the comments above about the current state of the show. The Panesars (and Eve - what a fantastic addition to the cast Heather Peace has been) and Lola can have all the screen time they want, both storylines are gripping for different reasons. Don can disappear immediately though, not funny and a masterclass in bad acting.
Kheerat gone! Wasn't expecting that.
Wow I can't believe that Kheerat is actually gone
Wow he’s properly left all the cast are wishing him luck for the future, I was hoping he’d be back somehow…
What a sudden unexpected exit for him!? :/ do we not even get court scenes or a follow-up to his "confession"? I hope they keep the rest of the family intact now and have a strong aftermath to his decision.
Will miss Kheerat a lot on the show - he has to return at some point!!
Oh I’m gutted, along with Suki he’s been the best character on the show for months.
Oh wow... I didn't think for a second that he was leaving for good. I assumed next week we would see him being questioned over the murder etc. He has been such a major character that has been key to so many recent storylines. I think his exit will be very much felt.
It shows that when they don't broadcast weeks ahead that someone is leaving that it has much more of a reaction and is much better for the viewer. Imagine if we didn't know what was going to happen to Lola and the reaction that would get.
I know it's the usual for soaps, but so many people have their final scene where they are leaving in a vehicle (taxi, hearse, police car). I'm not sure what else they could do, but I seem to have seen so many episodes of EastEnders in the last 2-3 months when someone is travelling away as the drum-dum-dums of the theme tune start.
Wow I didn’t know that was going to be it for Kheerat! A weird way for this Ranveer storyline to end tbh.
I think we’re seeing some post covid fall out here. The actor is clearly ready to go and yet because of the disruption, it feels like he’s just getting started. I think the departures of Nancy and Janine reflect this too, the actors clearly came back in order to keep secure work over a period of possible lockdowns and never intended to stick around.
Some spoilers for the rest of the month
w/c 14/11/22
Sam makes a shocking discovery, Alfie gets himself into a pickle while trying to keep a promise to Tommy, and Finlay and Felix use Zack as bait to persuade Whitney to party.
Alfie lands himself in hot water and gives Phil even more reason to despise him. Zack disappoints Whitney by not reading her signs.
Denise is increasingly worried about Jack, Alfie’s money-making plans are thwarted, and Felix and Finlay know that Whitney is putting on a front.
Patrick helps Howie and Denzel bond. Jack’s struggles continue. Alfie, getting desperate, tries an abortive investment ploy.
w/c 21/11/22
Janine's jibes at Linda continue. Billy struggles to hold things together and confides in Freddie. Rocky drops everything for a friend in need.
As disaster strikes for Janine, Linda takes a big risk. Ben questions Lola’s approach to what’s going on, and Rocky tries to make things up to Kathy.
Mick has the rug pulled out from under him. Lexi is determined to get to the bottom of what’s going on. Rocky makes a shocking implication but quickly backtracks.
Rocky is suspicious about Harvey’s new love interest. Eve is on a mission, but is she playing with fire?
w/c 28/11/22 (2x Double Bills this week to accommodate for the World Cup, Mon 28th and Thur 1st)
Janine’s true colours show as she frets over Mick and Linda. Freddie hatches a plan to help Harvey, and Kat is less than impressed by Alfie’s latest confession.
Shirley sees through Janine’s lies, Rocky faces a difficult decision, and Nish questions Suki’s behaviour around Eve.
Sonia attempts to get through to Janine, worried she’s losing control. One resident faces the consequences of their actions, and despite his situation, Alfie steps up for Tommy.
Janine remains determined to cement herself into Mick’s life. Upsetting news reaches the square, and Denise steps in to help Jack support Amy.
Dotty is leaving, they confirmed on their instagram story. They thought it was the right time to start something new.
Shona has, understandably, gone viral overnight after her performance at the Festival of Remembrance
I’m glad they had Sam tell Jack about Amy at the end. I don’t think I could stand him having yet another stick to beat her with.
Shona really is wasted in EastEnders, her character has run its course and she has so many other talents as we see in that video alone.
Not sure who watched the 2003 episode of Alfie searching for a condom and thought "we need more of that!"
I actually thought we’d done well with the Alfie return until that.
I don’t think Whitney is done they just need to do new things with her. Shona is easily one of the best actors in the show, it’s amazing she’s never been tempted to leave. I have a feeling all this stuff with Zach is to set up a pregnancy story for her next year.
Denise / Diane Parish are such a powerhouse! *.* Please no more putting her in the background, she deserves to be front and center! The scene with Denise and Amy talking on the stairs in particular, you can see Diane has put a lot of consideration into each line and facial expression to make her performance feel real. Definitely one of the best and most consistent actors on EastEnders.
^ I completely agree about Diane. The scene on the stairs and then the scene with Jack, both were exceptionally done. Her acting was incredible. Working in a school and having experienced things like this, the script too was on point and she said all the right things in the right ways. The storyline is so hard hitting and I think they're all doing well with it.
And then there's the Alfie plot reminding me that EE isn't completely cured yet
Would it be right for them to rewrite Alfie in any other manner? He has always been like this, though it feels dialled up to 11 atm but it would be weird for him to be toned down somewhat given his eccentricity
They can write him out x
They need to find away to write him in a modern day setting. There’s something awfully dated about him when Kat isn’t around.
Not gonna lie, didn’t love that episode. The football references were too many and way too heavy handed-I’m not sure it’s ever been as on the nose as that?
Also I hate that Janine is likely being punished with a miscarriage.
Completely agree about the football references. They came so thick and fast. I almost expected them to have quickly filmed a scene with the result and shoe-horned it in last second.
Guess that might come tomorrow instead.
Sonia is finally appearing again after 2 months next week though it is for Dot's death.
Reiss Colwell, a great nephew of Dot's, will be played by Jonny Freeman. He has been cast in the role as Sonia's new love interest. We'll need to remember here that Dot isn't actually related to Sonia by blood before anyone goes off on one.
I am in awe at Isabella Brown's performance in today's episode. That scene between Lexi and Lola was hitting hard.
Dot's funeral will air on 12th December. The episode has been extended to 40 minutes
The Janine Sonia scene in the shop about been bridesmaid was hilarious, that's the humour eastenders does so well when it's on point.
I guess last night's ending is Sonia calling Ricky to come and sort out Janine

They should have utilised Janine and Sonia as a double act more. In fact, there’s so much they should have done with Janine in this stint and they’ve squandered it on the Carters.
Def should have utilised her more and she is now really coming into herself now that she is back scheming and thats where she works best.
"Harvey... He's been catflapped"
Never ever ever leave us Honey
Lovely tribute to Dot/June Brown in tonight's episode
Nice to see Ricky back too, he did look a bit different which is because Sid Owen had facial surgery following a golfing accident
which injured his jaw

It was good to see Ricky and the handling of Dot’s death is so far so good.
Sonia watching Mick and Linda at the end of the first ep reminded me of when Pat saw Ryan and Stacey getting it on all those years ago. I know we’re never supposed to be but I’m always on Janine’s side.
I'm really enjoying the show right now, the episodes apart from the football overkill one have been consistently good. The writing for janine at the minute is great, its the janine we want and enjoy.
Blimey, today's episode is quite emotional.
I had wondered if we'd get any surprise returns, but Ian was not on my list! Wonder who he was on the phone to?
Dot's Theme mixed with Abide With Me was wonderful at the end
A very good and emotionally charged episode
That was blooming brilliant.
Ian Beale's cameo, blimey.
Loved it tonight with a few old faces.... Lofty "I went to the wrong Church" Mary looks so different, I remember her with black hair, Colin barely recognisable, and Ian with some few words "I'm coming home love" priceless. Let's hope they bring him back at some point.
What a lovely send-off for Dot in #EastEnders tonight, very emotional and nice to see some old faces and a cameo from Ian Beale too.
I feel like they are setting up an Ian return after Adams tour is finished and having him return with Jane. I loved if they did recast Peter back to Thomas Law and have the Beales restored. I have faith Clenshaw is capable to fix the Ian/Sharon unit too, a storyline that never should,ve happened. Also have Max and Lauren back so Linda and Jane can bond together against Max or something.
Return confirmed for Jada as part of Janine's exit. Janine's last episode will be on Boxing Day
The Sun are reporting Adam Woodyatt wil start filming in May and a full time return is expected
No way at that ending
Also living for Sonia and her trumpet.
Lovely moment with Colin and Barry tonight nice to see them back together
and OH that ending i didn't expect that return i'd actually forgotten Keanu
Dots funeral episode was very well put together and delivered.
Beautiful tribute to June Brown.
Nice surprise return from Keanu, i was sure it was Max in the scene before it shot to revealing who it was, i would have preferred it to have been Max but i enjoyed Keanu when he was on the show but im sure his return is for a Sharon storyline rather than a Taylor storyline.
Who has been feeding news to Keanu though? There's only a handful of people who know about Keeble
Im really looking forward to the Christmas day episode, ive really enjoyed the build up to it and should be a better episode than the last couple of Christmas day episodes. I also think there is an opening in the cast to bring in another complex character like Janine with the superbitch element aswell, you always need a charactor like that in the show and with Janine going their is a vacancy, i think the character of Suki may have been introduced for that type of role but doesnt hit the Janine levels.
Rag 'n' Bone Man making a cameo in EastEnders???
Denzel - a 40 year old man trapped in the body a 14 year old boy!
I am so ready for the Xmas eps now, just for all of the fallout
Just can’t wait to see the back of Mick now. Love Janine but she’s been wasted in this Mick crap, it makes no sense at all for them to get married and act like Mick ‘has to do the right thing’ by her (such a cliche) given he had three kids with Linda and didn’t marry her for 25 years. Aside from his first year, he’s been a completely awful character. Janine deserved a better story.
Haven’t watched EE in ages but will be tuning in to see if it’s a double death…
A bit rich Janine taking about a crime against her.
Barry Evans springs to mind...
Love Kellie Bright! Such an amazing actress.
I didn’t rate her much in Bad Girls but I think she’s been amazing whenever I’ve watched EE.
This seems so rushed to get it all in one episode.
First time Janine got booted out of the Vic was when Archie owned the pub.
What the heck was that
Harold!!!!!, Sorry wrong programme.
In eight years time Mick Carter comes back working for the Salvation Army in Melbourne... And is spotted by Linda
Yeah that was… an anti climax!
I enjoyed the scenes at the Vic at Christmas dinner, huge props especially to Linda Henry, Kellie Bright and Charlie Brooks for those scenes. The car chase and subsequent drama was somewhat tense but the pacing was off and it felt like a bit of a meh exit for Mick in the end?
That car chase was LOL
WHO FIGHTS WITH SOMEONE DRIVING AND WHO DOESN'T LOCK THEIR DOORS NOT ONCE, BUT TWICE?!
I knew they’d leave it open ended but I really wish they’d have just shown us Mick dead. I don’t think he’s a character we ever need back and there is no reason for him to leave if he’s alive. Amnesia can work on a show like Neighbours but it’s a bit far fetched for EE. No way would he just leave Linda and Ollie and the others so for me I hope that he’s definitely dead.
The whole story has been a farce anyway. Mick wilfully ignoring everything Janine has done and everything everyone has told him about her until today, Mick essentially enabling her obsession with him by just meekly going along with everything. Everything Janine said to him was right tonight, he has always caused his own problems and looked for others to blame-Linda especially kept getting the raw end of the stick for that one. Yes, I know that the abuse storyline exists but however good that was, it seemed awfully tacked on.
Hopefully now that EE is unshackled from Danny Dyer, we can see continued improvement in the show. May he never return.
That was an AMAZING episode!
Their best Christmas episode in absolute yeaaaaars!
It was so great to see the real Janine again, I missed how evil she could be. Poor Scarlett Ahh i'm so sad tomorrow is Janine's last episode I'm hoping Janine will come back someday soon. Charlie Brooks is an incredible actress.
Never been a big fan of Mick but that ending was great and it made me sad that he appeared to have passed away. However, with that ending i'm sure he could always come back!
I can see Mick having a Dirty Den style comeback in a few years, i do hope Kellie Bright is staying but also i can see this ending up with new landlords for the Vic.
Umm, Janine is still married to him, which means dhe gets THE LOT!!
And it's just her word vs Linda's, sooo
Okay I've slept on it and whilst I'm still of the 'what the heck was that' opinion, I think that's more pushed towards the ending of the episode and how rushed it all was (did Chris Chibnall have a hand in it? )
On the whole, the episode was actually well thought out. We had scene after scene after scene of just showing each family spending their Christmas Day which was subtly nice; there were no specially set up cut scenes (apart from the end aware from the Square) and so it felt like a more authentic Christmas.
I'm really worried Lola's exit is right around the corner and we won't get to see her and Jay marry, perhaps a New Year's Day exit?
Now, The Carter scenes in the Vic were brilliant (Queen Shirley!) and Scarlett just outing Janine was what I wanted all along so I'm glad it happened and the subsequent scenes between Mick/Janine and Mick/Linda were really well done. Why it all had to end in a high-speed chase is a bit odd, other than them not wanting Janine to flee because the police weren't treating what had happened as a priority. I know this is EE, but a call back to police to explain she was doing a runner surely would've been enough for them
Mick saving Janine first was the right thing, as Linda said to save the baby, but there was a little gut wrench when we saw Linda had got out and he'd gone back in. What I would like is for tonight's ep to pick up exactly where we were left and perhaps see some kind of attempt to save him or at least deal with the emotion at the scene so last night's didn't feel so rushed but I doubt it'll happen.
I can see that the Boxing Day ep is available already on iPlayer so might watch it shortly.
I can't see lolas exit that soon or at least I hope not.I think they said earlier that it's a long storyline but in soap world long can be 2 or 3 months, il like them to really play it out longer, I was thinking even have her exit next Christmas.
Eastenders was the most watched soap yesterday
Eastenders: 3.2m (up 0.3m on last year)
Coronation Street: 2.8m
Emmerdale: 2.6m
Behind the scenes:
I agree with Joseph's post, I enjoyed the dinner scenes a lot - the unravelling of information and subsequent fall-out was the most I'd been gripped by an EE festive episode in a good few years. But the pacing felt off with the car-chase onwards and I felt a bit underwhelmed that Mick's exit was left so open-ended. Poor Linda, Ollie and Shirley if this really is the end - the latter can't catch a break I hope her and Linda can forge a strong friendship going forward as her ties on the square are dwindling and I can never get enough Shirley.
(I kept to my word back in September and am still catching up on the last year very slowly so there are gaps I'm still filling in )
For those who enjoy small details:
I generally agree with the comments on here. The reveal of Janine's lies, the reunion of Mick and Linda and all the other stuff going on in the first half of the episode was decent. The car chase and ending all felt a bit rushed. While I get why they've gone with the 'missing presumed dead' open ending, because it's one of the only feasible ways to write Mick out without Linda or Oliie, it will feel a bit silly if they pull the 'memory loss' trick in a few years time. I'm guessing the alternative ending Danny Dyer mentioned would have seen him confirmed dead but also sure that would have just been one of those 'filmed to try and stop it leaking' things and they had no intention of using it.
I really enjoyed the reveal of Janines lies and also the reaction, the way she tried to say Scarlet was mentally ill showed the real Janine and thats side we all enjoy from her, i thought the episode built up really well, it may have been a little rushed at the end but i really enjoyed it from start to finish the only negative i have from the whole episode was Alfie, his storyline is ridiculous and annoying.
Alfie has stupid storylines!!
Scarlet is nothing like Janine. Boring character!!
Snuck into the Boxing Day ep early and I'm glad it doesn't brush past anything. There were some great character scenes once again between Janine/Sonia/Ricky/Scarlett and Linda/Shirley. Oop at Ricky shopping Janine to the police, but I guess she had to get her comeuppance at some point. My heart was also breaking at the Linda/Ollie scenes. The rest of the week will be interesting to see how it plays out once the rest of the Square find out.
Ricky told the police?! What a TURD
Scarlett should see right through her mother. Janine never wanted her anyway. She said in pub, you’re not coming after she was about to run away.
There was ZERO EVIDENCE, just a brat shouting ... but there was evidence foe ATTEMPTED MURDER!!! Sherly tried to kill Jamone!! Sorted. She gets the Vic, those two get out. She sells it, and leaves. That makes more sense, EE writers x
Superb emotional acting from Kellie Bright and Linda Henry
So his scene with Linda in the Christmas episode..
"Why does everybody around me always get hurt? I was on the roof last night and it hit me - maybe I'm the problem and I always have been"
Calling it now - he'll be back at some point and he'll use the excuse of needing to disappear because of his belief that he hurts everybody around him.
EDIT: Just read an article on DS
Show boss Chris Clenshaw said: "You'll have to wait and see (if Mick is dead). It's EastEnders so anything could happen."
...so yeah. Not dead. I bet Danny's just taken a year or so out to recharge his batteries and/or do other things.
I really do hope they use this as an opportunity to bring back Lee and Johnny. Nancy can stay away though
They've written themselves into a corner, but in a way it doesn't matter because it's a corner they'll only have to deal with in a few years time if the showrunners and Danny Dyer both want him back.
The Harold Bishop route would be ridiculous because a person washing up on the coast with his description would immediately be flagged up and the family contacted. Even if he washed up in France (if that would even be possible) in a coma or something, in the internet age of instant global communication it wouldn't take too long for authorities to work it out.
Him having intentionally faked his death and started a false life would be easier to write in if it weren't for the fact that wouldn't make any sense at all for the character of Mick.
Anyway, like I said, a hypothetical future problem. Great acting from Kellie Bright and Linda Henry tonight. Actually having her crime catch up with her and a prison sentence looming over her for once is a decent exit for Janine, they've kinda cocked this return up for her on the whole tbh after how great the promise of having her back first sounded.
I mean, this is what I really would have liked in terms of Mick’s exit:
It’s only fitting that Janine end up in prison at some point, she’s dodged that bullet enough times and when she does inevitably return, there’s the storyline right there.
But I can’t believe how mucked up her whole return has been. She has been used for the last year to prop the Carters up as the show’s main protagonists, like many short term villains before her. They could have essentially had a brand new character act out the part she’s played given how much Janine they’ve put into the scenes, she spent months until the last couple of weeks being used generically in the background. I hate that we still know barely anything about her time away, I hate that she lost her fortune with no explanation and I hate that they made her a horrible mother to Scarlett-that wasn’t where she was headed back in 2014.
I dunno what will happen with Linda or Shirley but I am glad Mick has gone and really hope he doesn’t come back. His character, whilst revitalising the show when he arrived, has been holding the show back for many years now.
Amazing acting by Charlie Brooks, she will be missed.
Janine is one of, if not my favourite eastenders characters so it is sad to see her go. However, I agree they didn’t utilise her well at all, however I’m so glad the past few episodes we saw the Janine we absolutely love!
I hate that she got arrested as I wanted her to get away but it makes sense she finally got arrested for something. Like someone else said she can pop up again in a few years!
Also be interesting what will happen to her baby. I’m shocked her baby survived ALLLLL of that.
My main issues were Janine having abandoned her child with little explanation (she was never going to be a perfect mother but having her let Scarlett end up in foster care off-screen after all the resentment she felt over her own father leaving her was stupid). Her having lost all her money, again with no good explanation, seemingly only to give her some motivation to be scheming around and yes her major plot being the relationship with Mick felt like a limp one. I
I imagine we will have Shirley/Linda etc... attending her trial off-screen and get some reference to her sentencing and the birth of the baby via that.
The trial will be off screen which will feel disappointing but Mick and Janine's exits are the best exits for a long time.
I'm enjoying more of a focus on Sonia since Dot's funeral, hopefully this continues into 2023.
I wasn't crazy about today's episode in general but looking forward to the New Year one on the horizon
Ummm how are you all daying Janine getting ARRESTED MAKES ANY TYPE OF SENSE?!?!?!
Let's look at the FACTS, shall we? X
- Linda was found drunk behind the wheel of her own car
- Evidence for Janine driving is ... a photograph of a neighbour with Janine in the background using a bin. Lol. Okay.
- Police came with BLARING SIRENS based on the word of her brother on Christmas. For obstruction of jusrice and an ACCUSATION WITH NO PROOF. NONE. ZILCH. ZIP. They would come and ask her to have a word at the station. No evidence? Daughter snd brother saying she did. No evidenxe. Their word, her word. Okay. Christmas family argument. The end. Ricky might get arrested aftwr for wasting popo time though...
- Janine has evidence of NEARLY BEING MURDERED BY HER MOTHER IN LAW. WHY DID JANINE, AS CLEVER AS SHE IS, NEVER SAY, PHONE THE POLICE WITH NO EVIDENXE ABOUT ME AND I'LL SHOW THEN MY BRUISED NECK, HAVE THEM TAKE YOUR DNA FEOM IR, AND GET YOU IN COURT ON ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES AND LINDA ON ATTEMPTED MURDER ACCESSORY CHARGES?! FUUCK ME!!!
- Janine now owns the pub. This is a fact. Plus Mick's money. This is a fact.
DIRE ending that makes NO SENSE AT ALL.
I think all anyone’s saying is that Janine has escaped prison for far worse in the past and it wouldn’t make sense for her to get off Scott free again. The whole storyline has been very unrealistic from the get go and in reality Janine would probably serve barely any time if she served any at all. But at least when she does come back people won’t moan about how unrealistic it is that she keeps getting away with everything.
The Sam/Keanu twist was a good one I didn’t see coming. I thought them being on such speaking terms was a continuity error given they hadn’t met before but then it all made sense.
One viewer posted a screengrab of Janine's car journey from start to finish which read 1 hour and 50 minutes
Janine travelled from London to the Dover Cliffs where it took a wrong turn.
On tweeter "Janine to win F1 2023" and "Janine should be x5 FI champion by now"
For perverting the course of justice she could get anywhere from community service to 7 years inside.
I think it would have been a decent idea to bring her back with a husband, battling with the step-children for his affections as Pat did.
Zero evidence!! There is ZERO EVIDENCE!
Janine always escapes prison. ALWAYS. To change this because she took kn saint Linda is a JOKE ans destroys EE. Time for the axe! Well, thst was when they killed Mel with a scene from out of Birdbox tbh.
Another woman stopped in her car to help Linda after the accident and spoke to Janine, who could place her at the scene and witnessed her running away afterwards.
They won't go into that much detail though because the whole thing will occur off-screen, we will get a reference about the sentencing from Shirley or Linda to wrap it up.
Still, nothing. No evidence.
Well when you add all of it together they could make a case against her. Not the most compelling irrefutable case I grant you but she's escaped prison at the eleventh hour more than once before so getting sent down on slightly flimsy evidence for something she did do is still kinda poetic justice. As far as soap deviations from reality go it doesn't bother me as much as some.
At the moment she has been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. Whilst they don't have hard solid evidence they do have both Linda and Ricky who have contacted the police about Linda's crash to say she was driving. Two accounts of that is probably enough for them to raise enough of a concern.
At the end of it all, this is a soap and the fabric of reality isn't always going to be completely correct. They'll do what they can to bring the drama and get viewers and it worked as a lot of people have been talking about the episodes online. If you want the grit of an investigation then you're looking for the wrong show in EE.
Soo, he said, she said, Cheistmas Day family argument. They'd have questions, no need to arrest. Janine would swat it away like a fly.
