Back for another year soon:

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 1st April 2024, 08:45 PM

Excitement! Nice to see they're keeping the same set of Judges, consistency always works well on BGT as it helps build camaraderie between the panel.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 1st April 2024, 09:23 PM

There's rumours going around that each judge now (officially) has 2 Golden Buzzers, after they were used quite randomly last year. I hope not! They seem to really devalue their impact, and with presumably 9 of them (including Ant & Dec's), almost 1/4 of the semi-final acts will have received a Golden Buzzer!

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 3rd April 2024, 09:23 PM

I can see both sides of it - it does mean that less acts who haven't been golden buzzered can make it in, but it does mean more 'spontaneous' acts who might not make it through by general consensus could potentially make the semis - if Golden Buzzers are done how they should be of course.

True, although it's been a long time since the Golden Buzzer has been used on any divisive acts - and that was only ever the case with David Walliams' choices IIRC. Most (if not all) Golden Buzzer choices seem to be acts who would easily get through anyway.

I don't blame them really though, they seem to love making Golden Buzzer compilation videos on YouTube so they likely make more buzz online than a standard audition. laugh.gif

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 9th April 2024, 06:27 PM

Confirmed to start on April 20th.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 9th April 2024, 06:30 PM

That's soon! Will be good to have this back on to enjoy.

Posted by: Dobbo 10th April 2024, 02:10 PM

I haven't watched this since series 13, would be good to get back into it again.

Posted by: Hassaan 11th April 2024, 10:34 AM

As ever, looking forward to it. Hopefully Bruno has settled in!

A new spin-off series 'BGT Reacts' has been announced for ITVX - I wish they'd just bring back BGMT!

Posted by: Hassaan 11th April 2024, 02:38 PM

Yeah, I'd prefer BGMT too but I think this is a better attempt at an ITVX spin-off thing than the BGT Unseen thing they did a few years ago.

I'm a massive fan of the show and I wasn't interested. It needed more around it.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 11th April 2024, 03:24 PM

I'm not sure. BGT Unseen did what it said on the tin I suppose. I'd rather watch an extra audition than some "content creators" talking heads comment on what I've just seen! Past BGT contestants should be a little more interesting though.

Posted by: Hassaan 11th April 2024, 04:59 PM

To celebrate 15 years (!) since Susan Boyle's audition was aired on TV, the BGT YouTube channel has released some previously unseen footage featuring her from the show:

Yeah, I did like the talking head "look back" shows they would do for More Talent every year before the series starts because they had old contestants on.

I always enjoyed those! It's a shame they haven't made + shown any updated ones, they can't cost much to make.

Yeah, even if they just do them for YouTube or whatever. It's nice to hear of behind the scenes stuff too.

They like to look back at SuBo and Diversity (obviously as that year was another level) but there's so many other great acts too.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 20th April 2024, 12:12 PM

Back tonight at 19:30!

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 20th April 2024, 07:07 PM

We have our first Golden Buzzer!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 20th April 2024, 07:21 PM

If the rumours about multiple Golden Buzzers are to be believed, there will be at least 1 in every audition episode and sometimes 2!

I'm not able to watch live tonight - looking forward to it later though.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 20th April 2024, 08:57 PM

Indeed - two in this one! A mix of acts - some fairly 'normal' UK acts which was good to see and the first Golden Buzzer act was good. Still making my mind up around my views on Lucy coming back but there's no denying she was good!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 20th April 2024, 09:19 PM

That AI act was done so much better on America's Got Talent!

This one just felt very stilted.

The fish was bizarre laugh.gif hopefully he returns…

Posted by: Hassaan 21st April 2024, 09:13 AM

Loved it. Nice mix of the sublime and the silly.

Happy with the two Golden Buzzers. I thought the impressionist was very good too.

The goldfish guy was very daft but very Britain's Got Talent.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 21st April 2024, 12:58 PM

Yeah, I think it was one of my favourite opening episodes for quite some time! They definitely leaned into the silly acts a lot, which I always enjoy. Sydnie Christmas was fantastic, I hope she releases her cover of 'Tomorrow' at some point.

BGT Reacts on the other hand is pretty cringy - I won't be checking that out again.

I think they should rush something out and put it on the various platforms, it'd be a good bit of extra publicity for the show if it does well.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 21st April 2024, 08:19 PM

A poorer show tonight I thought, nobody I especially enjoyed.

I wish they'd stop using bloody songs from The Greatest Showman though laugh.gif I think I've counted 5 uses so far in just two episodes!

Posted by: Hassaan 22nd April 2024, 10:13 AM

Innocent was one of the best vocalists they've had on BGT, for me.

Liked the woman doing the animal impressions too.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 22nd April 2024, 10:16 AM

I was never a massive fan of Walliams, but I'd take him over Bruno - I'm finding him even more annoying than last year so far!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 22nd April 2024, 10:40 AM

It's hardly a surprise that Geneviève Côté from last night has appeared on a couple of Got Talent shows before, but it's interesting to see that she didn't have a screen with the animals on beforehand. I think it works much better with it!

Huh, I just found out that the dad from Ravi's Dream Team is a member of Metronomy! Interesting.

Posted by: Scene 22nd April 2024, 08:19 PM

Simon needs to realise it isn’t 2018 anymore and The Greatest Showman soundtrack can be rested.

Loving the AI act, Sydney Christmas, the South African opera singer and the 4-dog act so far.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 27th April 2024, 09:40 PM

Hmm, I wasn't too fussed with tonight's show really! And a lot of the best acts seem to be the ones from abroad who do every 'Got Talent' show going.

Posted by: Hassaan 28th April 2024, 09:21 AM

Yeah, bit more gimmicky and silly acts yesterday, not as strong. But some good ones in there.

Posted by: Mack. 28th April 2024, 11:04 AM

Of course Amanda would have to give Sydney Christmas the golden buzzer the other week. Sydney was ok.

Good show tonight. Less silly acts compared to last week but I enjoyed the dancers at the end.

Sometimes a lot of the dance acts can feel rather intense, so it's nice to see an act that's just fun.

This post I saw perfectly describes the repetitiveness of the show's music laugh.gif

Not too mention Ain’t No Mountain High Enough after any choir, Castle On The Hill after any acoustic guitar playing male singer, A Million Dreams after any kid (especially kid magician), You Are The Reason after an emotional golden buzzer, Walking On Sunshine after some quirky lady’s audition, Fight Song (after illness backstory) and Can’t Stop The Feeling

And Live And Let Die after/during anything death defying!

Yep!

They've used Take That's Greatest Day for the golden buzzer moment three times. Ain't No Mountain High Enough three times, Fix You (Coldplay) twice, You Are the Reason twice etc.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 10th May 2024, 08:58 PM

They like Lauren Daigle's 'You Say' as well!

Posted by: Hassaan 12th May 2024, 08:11 PM

Bit of a mix tonight. I just knew that GB would get complaints from people who take the show too seriously with the "waste of a Golden Buzzer" thing, but he was fun.

The couple who closed the show would have been my pick though.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 12th May 2024, 08:33 PM

I like when funny acts like that get the Golden Buzzer laugh.gif entertaining people is still a very hard talent that a lot of people would struggle with. I felt the same about Viggo Venn last year. There's no way an Average Joe could win over the public like he did.

I still think they should've just stuck to the 5 Golden Buzzers though.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 16th May 2024, 06:03 PM

I’ve finally caught up on the latest episode - I think Denise & Stefan are the most likely winners so far.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 18th May 2024, 08:44 PM

Could be - although it's been a few years since we've had a winner with a backstory like theirs so let's see if that trend continues!

Not sure what to think of that final act tonight laugh.gif

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 18th May 2024, 08:54 PM

Blitzers seem to be reasonably popular in Korea! Almost half a million Insta followers and a Top 10 album there.

I'm not sure how I feel about that, I guess it would be like Caity Baser auditioning for Korea's Got Talent? (trying to think of a recent-ish mid-sized popstar haha that's fairly popular on social media).

Posted by: Hassaan 19th May 2024, 08:12 AM

Good episode. I liked the comedian and the magic act. The opera singer, I just knew would be a bit bonkers.

I struggle to connect emotionally with dance acts but I knew Bruno would go for that. They're good at what they do.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 19th May 2024, 08:33 AM

Yeah. There’s always several dance acts with loads of kids on stage each year, and this one didn’t feel much different. I can’t see them getting to the final.

Any thoughts on who we could see winning? Of the sixteen winners:

4 comedy acts
4 singing acts
2 dog acts
2 dance acts
1 magician
1 musician
1 shadow theatre group
1 gymnastics troupe

You could argue that we had 5 singing acts if you wish to include Jon Courtenay, but yeah.

Standard of act is more important to me than variety, but it's interesting that of the last five winners, four have been comedy acts. It wasn't until series 4 that a comedy act made the final, and series 7 until one made the top 3.

I'd be open to someone like Innocent Masuku or Sydnie Christmas winning, if the public decides that they'd like a singer this year.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 25th May 2024, 05:36 PM

It's always so hard to predict who will click with the public! I was wondering whether a solo child act would take it this year after two runners-up in a row but there haven't really been any interestingly enough. Maybe it's time for another magician to win?

It's interesting that we've only had one solo child winner, and that was back in 2008. No solo female winner either, they've either been part of a group or accompanied by a dog.

I'd welcome a good magician winning. It's interesting with Richard Jones because I think he is a good magician but the routine in the final was his weakest.

I wouldn't mind if a really good singer won. I don't think a danger act will ever win because they can be very "seen it once, seen it all".

Tonight was good, I did like the GB act. I thought they were too similar to Billy and Emily until the sparks came on.

As for Ace, I think his voice is very much an acquired taste though he is likeable. I think if he was in the live shows, he'd be swallowed up by the bigger vocalists already through.

The returning magicians at the end - I'm not sure what went on there. It was a bizarrely sudden ending which makes me think that they're not actually competing.

Posted by: Scene 25th May 2024, 09:07 PM

Looks like the live shows could be weekly from next year.

Posted by: Scene 26th May 2024, 09:14 AM

I don’t think that would be a wise idea. Surely part of BGT’s appeal is you get all the live shows in a week like an event.

Posted by: Hassaan 26th May 2024, 08:13 PM

Yes, I prefer the stripped week too and whenever they've done weekly semi finals before (BGT Champions and those delayed ones in 2020) it hasn't worked very well.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the live shows shape up as. The acts we might deem favourites might struggle.

Also, this seems to be the only online space where people who watch BGT are actually not only negative...

Posted by: JosephBoone 26th May 2024, 08:28 PM

BGT being dragged out would be terrible and I don't think it'd work at all - the snappy pace of the live shows works really well for me and keeps my enthusiasm up.

I don't think it's been the greatest series ever so far, it's feeling even more contrived than usual in parts and the multiple golden buzzers entirely devalues its existence, but there's been plenty to enjoy, generally from the international acts actually.

Posted by: Hassaan 26th May 2024, 09:03 PM

I do think the standard of singing acts and stand-up comedians this year has been better than last year.

Even though the GB doesn't really do anything from a format point of view, I do think 9 is too much. They haven't had the big emotional moments this year.

Magic acts are always a bit hit and miss for me, but at least they've been a bit different.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 26th May 2024, 09:25 PM

Oh no. The shows pretty much dying anyways (I mean possibly dramatic but it’s far less popular than it once was and it’s just a lot more contrived and fake / scripted. Mixed with the fact that the talent standard is much lower as well because we’ve pretty much seen everything. I think the show could’ve done with a break rather than an even longer series. We’ll see what does happen but I think extending the shows run might do a lot more damage overall.

I think like X Factor did this shows kind of just become a real shell of its former self though. The golden buzzers have absolutely no value these days now and there’s a try too hard feeling I get from all the judges too. It’s hard to believe this was once must watch TV. I think a major rethink is needed and perhaps a modernisation.

They had a break in 2021.

I think it's difficult to refresh a show like BGT, certainly compared to something like Strictly or I'm a Celebrity. It's series 17 so we've seen pretty much everything that we could see.

Most shows on linear TV have fallen from where they were, but BGT is still the biggest show on TV right now.

The live show guest performers have been announced:

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 27th May 2024, 09:22 AM

The first live show acts are:

Sven Smith (air guitarist)
The Trickstars (dog act, previously Lucy & Trip Hazard)
Trey Braine (child dancer)
Ssaulabi Performance Troupe (South Korean taekwondo practitioners, Golden Buzzer act)
Taryn Charles (singer, Golden Buzzer act)
Bikoon! (Japanese comedy act)
Duo Stardust (Ukrainian roller skaters, Golden Buzzer act)
Innocent Massuki (opera singer)

I predict that Stardust + Ssaulabi will go through, Innocent will be third place.

Posted by: Hassaan 27th May 2024, 10:24 AM

Three GB acts on the first show is interesting. I think there could be a few upsets, but that's the beauty of the live shows.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 27th May 2024, 07:06 PM

And we're off! I think a good number of these have a chance of making it through so both the order of performances and how they go down on the night will have an impact.

Simon was remarkably cold given they were his GB act, though he was right.

Until they got Bruno involved, I would have said it was underwhelming, though sadly it didn't save it.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 28th May 2024, 08:38 PM

Posted by: Hassaan 28th May 2024, 09:30 PM

I'm not surprised Jack topped the night. Magicians do have a habit of topping the vote, particularly in recent years.

Part of me did wonder if Ravi's Dream Team would get a full house from the judges. I think that was the right decision though.

Side note: anyone else watch with subtitles? I notice that they jump ahead slightly sometimes, suggesting that the show is on a delay. I should probably turn it off at the result tomorrow!

I think they are laugh.gif my partner has been mentioning it every night this week, but today is when I really noticed. When A&D first spoke to him at the table, the audience booed randomly and A&D looked a bit awkward.

I think they're shouting "Brunooooo!" laugh.gif but I've definitely noticed the commotion every time Bruno speaks lol

I didn't have that choir down as a contender but with them being the closing act you never know! I've given two votes to them and three to Phoenix Boys.

Posted by: Hassaan 30th May 2024, 09:21 PM

I'm surprised at A&A topping the night given they performed second, but I'm glad they got through. And the choir.

The guy who sang from Waitress was robbed!

Was he? He did fine. But it was pretty monotonous and boring. That song needs way more emotion and belt behind it!

I only saw the last 3 or 4 acts coz I tuned in for '& Juliet' and... I really can't recommend that show enough! It's touring, so I highly recommend that you go if you can!

Abigail and Afronitaaa topping the vote wub.gif they radiate joy, I'm so glad they got through!

My OH was telling me about it just yesterday!! If they come to Kent defo!

I think Harrison was better than his audition, but I think it ended up being a bit flat. His nerves and inexperience showed a bit, and maybe he needed something that was more impactful.

You kind of need to play the BGT game a bit, and go for something with some big high note or something. To quote Kyle Tomlinson (2017 finalist), it helps to have a "vote note" (a big moment that's basically going to get you votes).

Just caught up on Wednesday's episode, a shame Leighton didn't make it through (I gave him five votes on the night without watching the episode!) but I can't complain at the two who made it through either.

The line-up tonight feels stacked!

How on earth did Trixy do the calculator thing? ohmy.gif

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 31st May 2024, 08:35 PM

Five votes to Alex - normally I'd think he'd safely win the semi but with so many good acts I'm not sure!

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 31st May 2024, 09:02 PM

Great to see Alex through - he definitely has a shot at winning particularly given how well comedy has done in recent years. Denise and Stefan have to be the wildcard surely?

Posted by: Hassaan 31st May 2024, 09:43 PM

Glad to see Alex through. I think he was definitely stronger when he was ad libbing, but I'm not surprised that the audience liked him.

Bit surprised at Trixy, as I thought the jugglers would have had a shot, but magicians have historically been quite popular with the voting. Certainly in the last 7-8 years.

I think the wildcard will be between Denise and Stefan or possibly Trickstars if they want someone different.

It was pointed out to me that Lucy/Trip Hazard got the wildcard the last time they took part so if they got it again that would be a BGT first!

Yes, and the last time they lost out in the judges vote to Ant and Dec's golden buzzer act too! biggrin.gif

Bookies are convinced Sydnie's winning but I have a gut feeling it'll be Innocent.

I am fairly convinced it will be a singer. I could be wrong; I thought Musa was a shoe-in last year.

I'd be happy with either but I'd prefer Sydnie.

And they did get the wildcard.

So many good acts but I voted all for Mike (the voice impressions guy). His Kate Bush sold me. heart.gif Loved Sydney but she’ll get loads of votes and probably win by a landslide lol.

Posted by: Hassaan 2nd June 2024, 09:21 PM

I'm pleased for Sydnie. The first solo female winner they've ever had.

I did wonder if Jack might sneak it. He impressed me tonight.

A&A did well to get 3rd. I'm really surprised Innocent got 4th but I think Sydnie split his vote.

Her “I want everyone in the audience to experience the love I’m feeling up here” speech felt a little odd and rehearsed. Very anticlimactic finish to the show

I wouldn't be surprised if they were like "prepare something if you win because we need to get off air quickly".

I don't like the abrupt endings. I'd prefer if she did an encore performance or something.

Posted by: Scene 2nd June 2024, 09:51 PM

Worthy winner, though very predictable. It did feel like hers to lose.

I never watch this so haven’t seen a single second of this series but just seen the lady who won on TikTok and she has one of the most amazing voices I’ve heard in a LONG time, wow

Posted by: Jordanlee 3rd June 2024, 01:45 PM

After a pretty poor series I have to say I’m very happy and shocked at the public actually voting for a talented winner on this show at long last. I did see she was favourite but the way the British vote on this show I really was suspecting another male winner.

Sydnie is genuinely one of the best reality tv contestants vocally in a long while. Gorgeous vocal and I’m still not fully over her My Way performance yet. Definitely a deserving winner I’d say and I haven’t championed a winner on this show since Tokio! Also so bizarre but not surprising we have to wait 17 series to get a sole female act winning laugh.gif

Yeah Sydnie is easily top 5 winners of this when I’ve looked at past winners.

Posted by: Herbs 3rd June 2024, 01:47 PM

I watched this as my other half has been heavily promoting Northants Sings Out (as he works for the council)

Thought the final was hit and miss (including one of the worst comics I have ever seen).

Was surprised/not surprised that so many of the previous winners were men. Takes someone who is a good as Sydnie to break that trend

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 3rd June 2024, 09:02 PM

Just caught up now - well done to Sydnie! I haven't been following the odds so didn't know how it was going to go but she was clearly the favourite in the arena. Kudos to her for being the first female winner to not come with a dog attached!

I was rooting for Alex but his position in the Final didn't help him I don't think (plus him saying he didn't think his performance was the best won't have helped either). And Jack would have been a worthy winner as well - very talented and very funny as well.

The Trickstars getting the Wildcard did feel a little odd but fair enough given how high they finished in the vote! I can't help but wondering how Denise & Stefan would've done if they had been the wildcard though...
