Welcome to the beach at Cyclone for the (quite possibly only ever) final to be hosted by Cumulonimbia.
Yes, we've got refreshments and https://i.imgur.com/EAKY9hb.png for this special occasion- unfortunately I can't really share all that much of you due to Covid restrictions.. what do you mean they've all been lifted now?!

The following nations failed to provide their votes, and will therefore be banned from the club for one month and sadly unable to enter BJSC 138:

★ Buzzjack Mountain
★ Cadelicia


As a participant in the Grand Final, Buzzjack Mountain will also have a 33% deduction applied to their final aggregate points total.

Taahino will receive a 15% penalty deducted from their final total for submitting their votes late.

Still early days but so far looking like there aren't really many clear runaway contenders which is what I thought was the case, can see whoever ends up winning being on fairly low points and by a very small margin.

Klum 2nd again! Deserved the top but well done Aesthetica and Allie X joining the double winners club! It did sound pretty big, was around 20th in my rank.

Glad Aeroche sneaked a top ten there, but it deserved way more! My predictions of the FARC/Aeroche top two were WAY off but all of the odds posted were quite far out in places this month so maybe just a hard one to call.

Botanikka and Summericia definitely didn’t deserve bottom five! I was very much expecting it for Cora and just happy they got to ride in the final and picked up a couple of 18s! Thanks to all the voters.

And of course the biggest thanks to Doctor Blind for a wonderful show and brilliant hosting throughout!

Yasss Aesthetica poor Klum though Really unlucky there, was secretly wanting them to have a first win the other day as the odds had them too low imo when it sounded like a winning contender to me.

Brilliant for Kathaldzia as well. My favourite of theirs easily so good. The top 10 is mostly a very strong bunch. Wasn't mad on Hendinia and #00274E grew off me a fair bit from the semi's. Glad Terra just about grabbed top 20 too.

Here is the final scoreboard by my count - it's a little different as I've interpreted FARC's unclear votes differently (so I have Republic of Adonia 6 points lower, St. Burbia 2 points higher and Kluminican Republic/Land of DW/Utopia each 1 point higher, leaving FARC's votes without a 1 pointer).

Everything else does match Doctor Blind's totals so I guess just consider the correct one of these scoreboards to be undetermined for now - the positions are all the same anyway apart from Land of DW being one place higher, just ahead of Taahino's unrounded post-deduction score (plus a couple of tiebreaks which I guess Doctor B hadn't broken yet in his post)

edit: for posterity if anyone is ever reading this thread back, Jake never responded to clarify his votes oops; unless he ever randomly comes forward to correct this I am going to make the executive decision to use this version of the results as the official ones just because I think Doctor B's interpretation of the FARC votes is a little too much of a stretch, better to just stick to what the votes say rather than assuming typos x

Pop songs in semi 2 are really struggling and Tears in My Eyes qualifying with 7 votes (3 12 points too!) I wonder if I would still qualify if I sent this song instead

Congrats Travis on the debut win <3 great to have 2 contests in a row with first time winners after such a long drought before that! In all honesty this song was veeery lucky to get through the veto so I have slightly mixed feelings on it ending up winning oops but at the end of the day it did get through and it's a great song so I cannot complain! Allie X officially becoming the first artist to win BJSC for 2 different people (following Sheelah and TR/ST both being double winners but with both of their winners sent by the same country).

I was all ready to make a clever post about Leww's influence already rubbing off on Klum with him winning this month oof at yet another 2nd place with still no win yet, surely it has to come one of these days! Still happy to see it doing so well, then Burbia & Kathaldazia completing a top 4 which all received points from me! St. Burbia really went over 5 years without ever finishing in the top 5 and then got 1st and 3rd back to back + definitely did not expect SWIM to do anywhere near that well but it was a big favourite for me so great to see!

Also excellent to see Caerfyrddia and Niceland both surpassing my expectations to finish in the top 10 as well and some decent results in the top 20/midtable range for Trifoski, N DNTN (especially after them only barely qualifying!), Thelonia, Terra Avium, Utopia and Cumulonimbia! I think that only leaves Aelandor as one that's done a bit less well than I was hoping/expecting but at least it was still well clear of the bottom few. 25th is a little lower than I hoped for myself as well but ah well, achieved a good improvement on last month at least (and I see I was pretty lucky to get through the semi so 25th from that was a decent showing!), thanks to those who voted for our car alarm song, especially Jade, Kath and RFC for the 18s again <3 not quite sure what direction I'll be going in next month, I still have one potential left from the list I put together a few months ago (after offloading another one off that list to Unknown Pleasures) but not certain that I still want to send it so I might need to get searching again.

Thanks Doctor Blind for an excellent first time hosting (the system of passing on hosting rights to the highest placing countries who haven't hosted before continuing to come through with some great and inspired host nations), I hope it won't be the last!

None of the top 7 of semi-final 2 finishing in the final top 10, plus the winner of semi 1 also missing it (and Dobago beating Klum Rep in the semi before proceeding to come dead last in the final while Klum Rep came 2nd!!) Caerfyrddia also pulling off quite a huge increase from the semi to the final. Has to be one of the most disagreeing sets of semi results we've ever seen (I'm sure I can pull some spreadsheet magic to check the average difference between projected and final positions to verify that, when I can be bothered)

Congrats Travis! Great song - and one that I barely noticed the presence of Allie X on if I must be honest, was far more drawn to Violet's verses. Great to see Caerfyrddia in the top 10 too, awesome track.

Amazed that I was very right about semi 2 and Flynnonda and Taahino demolished it, I thought I was projecting a little bit with how they were clearly the two standouts in that semi but I was always confident on them getting through <3

Well done Trav Not a bad end result at all but definitely one of the weakest contest's I think we've had for a while, it was too dance/electronic-y(?)/instrumental-y for my liking but I guess if that's your predominant taste then it's a dream contest Super happy to be able to support my faves Hot Milk tho, they're my next gig and first gig post lockdowns so I'm buzzing for that!!

Every one has to send something in the pop/rock realm next month tho, I'm manifesting it into existence.

When I first added the song to my playlist, I actually never considered it for BJSC but it grew on me so much! I was like, wtf I must enter this!

A nice and varied top 10 overall and as others have said, a really strong contest for electronic and dance music I've loved Breathing for a while now so happy to see that surprise and finish 2nd. Would have liked to see Persephonia, Utopia and Cumulonimbia finish higher, but at least they avoided bottom 10!

And WHAT a way to do it, in style a pretty incredible statistic that I only received 9 more points in the final than in the semi final despite there being twice as many eligible voters and a higher voting format. Well it's never a great start when your 2 biggest fans in the semi are the ONLY countries that didn't vote that 6th place finish is definitely bewildering but the semi results in general are an absolute mindf***-fest. Dan alluded it to it last month, trance is finished in this contest. Bring back 2016 when Pupok was landslide winning and trance songs were guaranteed top 20s!

Huge congrats to Travis, a long overdue victory now! Wasn't a fan at all of the song (nor any of the top 3 actually, nor indeed most of the top 10 as per). Lol at me saying Terra Avium would be an 18 magnet and them proceeding to garner a grand total of ZERO (sorry for the jinx Chez!)

And if things couldn't get any worse my +18 finishes second last. Let's just move on from this contest eh? Not to discredit Dr Blind's brilliant hosting duties of course, merely the horror of the results

indeed Dobbo, sadly. it definitely seems to be the more electronica side of EDM that is doing better at the moment - see Ben Bohmer and Swim this month. this contest only proves it further, I’m never sending trance again unless another really special track like Somebody Loves You comes along (finished 10th less than a year ago). congrats on getting a wooden spoon though, something I am still yet to accomplish!

anyhow this was a great results reveal to follow last night, great hosting effort! congrats Aesthetica on a win finally too, suppose I should have predicted it to contend as it was a rare drag queen song that I enjoyed a fair bit. KlumRep finishing as high as second was a real great surprise as well, I was familiar with the song already but it’s grown on me a lot since being sent here.

Echoing what Dobbo and Dan says about decline popularity of trance…hence why myself I am not confident any longer sending them, regardless of how much I love them!!!

And I know I should send songs I love no matter how they perform in contest but doing well is a part of contest and I chose to go for songs I love and have some confidence that it might do decent, in comparison to trance where I always feel like they’ll bomb.

I still think the right trance entry could do well personally, I don’t see why something like the Gareth Emery smashes or RAMelia still couldn’t finish as comfortable top tens if sent now.

Summericia sounded much more accessible than bottom five, but at the same time none of the recent trance entries have screamed top ten, so I guess now for trance it’s either top ten or bust with only the biggest or most distinctive songs from the genre doing anything.

As I just posted in the Summericia thread I definitely don't find the trance entries to stand out as much these days, I don't know if it is just that we don't get as many great ones as we used to or if it is a sound that I've got a little bored of due to being a little on the samey side. I did vote for 'Somebody Loves You' so it's certainly still possible for recent trance entries to connect with me if they stand out enough, they just seem to rarely do so any more. (It would be a shame if people were put off sending the genre forever though, don't want to see it dying out in the contest completely - I mean I'm sure it won't, if that were the case people probably would have given up on sending K-Pop a long time ago with the pretty awful track record that has )

sometimes there are songs that just connect and ones that don't and for a lot of genres there is a formula that you hear and you go YEP that's the one, but sometimes for some genres it's a case of... why this one over another? i think also when genres start to be sent there's a novelty to it and then as the years go on that sound is less impactful and bombastic - synthwave for instance

Yes I agree and the fact that tastes constantly change and/or evolve in this contest is what keeps it so fascinating. It's inevitable that genres come and go just like they do commercially so staying ahead of the curve is just as much of an enjoyment as it is a challenge!

Aesthetica's win is quite impressive since as previously pointed out this is only their third visit to the top 10 and their first time in the top 10 (or indeed top 20 as well) since BJSC 115 where they placed 4th with Slayyyter's "Alone".

I was very tempted to send it, but I think it was the right decision to send the English version in the end given how close it was to NQing and my track record on non-English tracks isn’t great! Also, it’s not available on Spotify or YouTube which would have been a nuisance for hosts!

I still wanted to share it though as it’s an equally as lovely track in the native language.
