> Good evening, and welcome to the results of the thirty-third edition of the Buzzjack Song Contest in Kopečka's capital, Zagorasta! My name is Shirley Clamp, noted Queen of Pressbyrån and Hot Mess tsar of the Kopeček government.
> We had 42 nations joining us for this contest, and 42 became 28 after the semi-finals, and all but two returned their votes on time for tonight's results. Unfortunately, the delegations from New Caprica and Kathaldazia have been subjected to the state death penalty of death by Canned Heat due to their failures to vote, but the rest of you thankfully all managed to do so - and as such, we have a winner. Results will begin provisionally at 8pm, but in practice they WILL be stalled if we don't have at least ten delegations viewing, so make sure you all turn up!
> So, what will tonight's results yield? Will we see the first ever foreign language male winner in Hendinia's Rasmus Seebach? The second host-winner in a row in Kopečka's Vendela? Or our first ever Romanian winner in the People's Republic of Jester's Alexandra Stan? Or will we see someone nobody had guessed triumph overall? It's ALL IN THE AIR. But until then, have a peek at the scoreboard and one of my most treasured performances of all time, Med hjärtat fyllt av ljus, in my attempt to represent Kopečka at BJSC XV. The fact I finished last in the selection is neither here nor there. Enjoy my gammon and pig in heat pitching.

i has an excite.
of course, this is Torchwood in BJSC so after about five results I will lose all interest as we flop hard ^^

Predictions? ;o
Posted by: gooddelta 24th April 2011, 06:48 PM
I'm glad the 'celebrity host' thing has taken off
FSR Rontvia are here! Hoping for a top ten finish, which would be respectable enough to follow two wins. 15th or below = FLOP, and I'm not wanting that to happen particularly as I haven't flopped since 2009 when I sent that unloved nobody Example with that song that nobody liked - until it popped up in their personal charts 4 months later :/ Not quite as bad as The Fear failing to qualify for the Best Of the month before it went to #1 in the multichart/UK though!
Hoping for a win for either my 12, 10 or 8 pointer and my 10 pointer probably has no chance, so go one of the other two
I'm predicting a dogfight between Batidas, Kopecka and Leivant with Ashton and Hendinia up there also. The indie crowd will give their 12's to Eledan which is just as well as nobody else will give them anything.

Is it actually going to 'work', like a gif or something, or will it just be a still picture?
And why am I always referred to as 'Kluminica' by you?
Posted by: Tom Judas Kay 24th April 2011, 06:49 PM
OMG the scoreboard looks amazing Is PRoJ really a contender tonight? We were talking about it earlier, I'm sure he'll do better than me tonight, I think it could be his first top 5, but it would be AMAZEBALLS if he won.
Posted by: Jaack Sykes 24th April 2011, 06:50 PM
Did the tension thing work out with the last few people who voted, or have you decided on the voting order yourself (as ESC might do)?

I predict Battidas to win

I don't DO Republic of etc. unless it needs it to differentiate it (like PR of Jester). I was the exact same when Silas had his little thing with that Republikken/Republique d' he insisted on always adding to Ashton back in the day.
A gif would've been AMAZING but I sadly didn't have the time to do 40 different voting gifs It's just stills.
Posted by: Tom Judas Kay 24th April 2011, 06:53 PM
Still sounds amazing.
Hoping for top 10 tonight, but I think it's out of reach, so top 15 will do. Also then I'll be able to send the winner of XXXIV rather than the best k-pop song I can pull out of my arse.

I think that's an incredibly long shot, predictions have been 6th-10th almost exclusively and I think that sounds about right. There's a clear cut top five in my mind, but then that didn't include Mr Saxobeat, as the Euro dance songs tend to finish low top ten when they're sent, so I figured this would do about the same. But provisionally I'll say;
No doubt Tirren's laughing at how laughably incorrect my predictions are!

Lievant are walking this tbh. Just a hunch.

The predictions were none to kind for mine though. I don't mind, people had already entered my first, second and third choices annoyingly.
Posted by: gooddelta 24th April 2011, 06:59 PM
It'd be really nice to see either Batidas or Lievant win, purely because the other major favourites have all hosted before, and I'd quite like to see a new style of hosting, assuming they don't hand it down to 2nd place.

Actually I tried to send Vanbot, I PMed it about 3 hours after it leaked and Cal (?) already had it

I'm only seeing five people. I DID demand ten minimum. And puppies to dry my hands on.

Posted by: Liаm 24th April 2011, 07:02 PM
Then again though the odds were low for me only a couple of people put me in the bottom few in the predicta. Top 20 would be great, I know it's an extremely long shot for me to win, but I'd to not be near last!
Posted by: Tyron 24th April 2011, 07:03 PM
THERE WE GO
Posted by: Tyron 24th April 2011, 07:03 PM
And we start the voting with N-Lazone! Unfortunately they dropped out at the semi stage with Sander van Doorn to remain the most unsuccessful new nation we've seen for quite some time, but how will their votes go?
Actually I tried to send Vanbot, I PMed it about 3 hours after it leaked and Cal (?) already had it
That was my first choice too!
Posted by: Liаm 24th April 2011, 07:04 PM
Thanks for the 2 Nick (?) He is N-Lazone right?
Posted by: Tom Judas Kay 24th April 2011, 07:04 PM
Yep. Thanks Nick Looks like I'm going to do better than in UP5 then
Posted by: gooddelta 24th April 2011, 07:04 PM

Oh, thanks for the 4 points Nick!

This really isn't the exciting bit. You're like half of the British TV audience that switches on Eurovision for the voting (will NEVER understand that...)
Posted by: Tyron 24th April 2011, 07:09 PM
Second up are Botanikka, who made it through against the odds with Rai Knight's 'Persistence'.
And Ojnoj burst into the lead off the back of their first 12 of the night. But, of course, it's still all to play for.
Posted by: Liаm 24th April 2011, 07:10 PM
So Vanbot is this month's Helena Paparizou? Except no-one even bothered sending Baby It's Over AFAIK - I shoulda nabbed it Government Name did shockingly well for me though, so I didn't mind

Because it's the only part that doesn't clash with Britain's Got Talent
Plus most people I know only watch to see how the UK does and hear the winner at the end. They're not interested in anything else sadly

Posted by: gooddelta 24th April 2011, 07:12 PM
Thanks for the point Addy! Impressive for Ojnoj, I always suspected that it was being underrated (and was the only one that saw it going through to the final) but even so, I certainly wouldn't expect it to finish top ten in the final

Letland next, who had their first fall at the semi-final stage ever with DJ Lutique.
Ojnoj remain in the lead, but only just as Lievant surge forward to take second. Could we see their first ever win with Vanbot?

Batidas getting off an excellent start.
Jason Reeves 'Sticks N Stones' <--- I will be surprised if this wins.
Posted by: Klumzee 24th April 2011, 07:16 PM

Greenfroze's Alice Svensson is on nul at the moment, but that could still change. How will their points go?
And the audience explodes as the host nation goes into the lead! Last time this happened The You Know Who (later renamed to KillaBITE) finished 4th, but could Vendela do better with the highly tipped Punk Rock Song?
Posted by: Tom Judas Kay 24th April 2011, 07:19 PM
Sorry Vulker I should have read the thread
And thanks Freeze Can't help but feel I've got a BIG slide coming on...

Do people seriously not like the ESC voting? It's one of the major great things about the contest for me!
Admittedly it used to be more interesting when the winner wasn't painfully obvious from the halfway point (or 5 votes in in 2009), but I still watch with interest, particularly to see if and where the UK's points come from. Plus it's always great to see your favourite song win, as has happened to me in 2001, 2004, 2009 and 2010

Still think Kopecka will do well.

I LOVE the voting. Not a fan of every point being read though. The Bosnian woman who messed up in 2003 Swedish guy in 2008 Loved it even more in 2009 (waving my flag whenever we got points) & 2010 (becoming increasingly excited when it was apparent that Lena would win).

Kluminica made it through their first ever semi-finals with Sjus, but aren't highly tipped to do well tonight.
And Stine Bramsen goes into the lead for the first time since she last entered (and won!) with The Spell in XX. Batidas are finally lifted off the nul with a 12 from Kluminica - could this night not go as well for them as originally thought?
Posted by: Liаm 24th April 2011, 07:23 PM
I don't mind the ESC voting when it's exciting at the begining but when you begin to get a vague idea of the finishing order just over halfway through (usually) I begin to find it dull Always carry on watching though

I wouldn't go that far, but I do tend to be more interested in the second half of the show than the first, apart from in 2009 where every detail/performance was more or less spectacular! The worst bit for me, almost exclusively, is the interval act/gap between the performances and voting. The only one I've ever genuinely enjoyed was Aqua and Safri Duo in 2001 Most countries see it as an opportunity to push some pretentious new age crap and the contest hasn't been about that for years. Last year's was a massive step in the right direction though, very modern.

Dalisska aren't renowned for their track record in the contest, only finishing in the top five for the first time with KillaBITE late last year, but Austra's been predicted to do well and could restore them to the left half of the scoreboard...
Xanaga are lifted off the foot of the scoreboard with a douze from Dalisska, with just two countries left on nul - but Lievant get yet another ten, shoving them ahead into an 11 point lead. Definite contenders? We've got 33 juries left, it may be too soon to call it…

And Riverside gets its second 12 of the night! But, more importantly, Lievant get their third 10 in a row, extending their lead to 14 points…

Hello Kopečka! This is Lykke Li calling from FSR Rontvia, I was so excited to bring the nation their sixth win last month but we're so grateful that you took over the hosting - we just couldn't justify the cost of hosting for a second month in a row! You've done a brilliant job, it's been a great show and Shirley - you look stunning as usual, you have a figure to rival some of the most beautiful women in the world. Here are the results from FSR Rontvia, now chosen by a 50% jury and 50% televote;
1 Point: Numayania: Morten Hampenberg & Alexander Brown; Stine Bramsen 'I Want You (To Want Me Back)' 2 Points: Ashton: Molly Sandén 'Det Är Inte Jag' 3 Points: Herzebania: Linda Pritchard 'Glorious' 4 Points: Tinnmark: Anna Abreu 'Hysteria' 5 Points: Ojnoj: Jason Reeves 'Sticks N Stones' 6 Points: Lievant: Vanbot 'Make Me, Break Me' 7 Points: Hendinia: Rasmus Seebach 'Natteravn'
And now for the big three. In third place is the nation who topped our vote last month - the hosts, that's right - it's you!
8 Points: Kopečka: Vendela 'Punk Rock Song'
We gave them the full 12 way back in XIX, and this song is very very near as great, and very much worthy of our ten;
And it was a very close call, but this song we found to be absolutely stunning and a ridiculously huge grower - so we give our 12 to a debuting nation;
12 Points: Batidas: Agnes Obel 'Riverside'
Thank you and goodnight, may the best song win!
-
Lievant stay in the lead, but Batidas's second 12 in a row puts them within sniffing distance of Vanbot as the host nation stay in the game.

I never said anything ripped off When Love Takes Over, you must have mistaken it with somebody else's review But it was an 8.5, a grower and I like it a lot - I didn't want to exclude it from my top ten - likewise the Molly Sanden track, although with the crappy stuttering MP3 I initially rated it a 7/10 before hunting down a proper version of it and bumping it up to an 8.5

You said something about a song that was "a total rip-off, luckily it rips off one of the greatest songs of last year". Guess it wasn't me though Glad it made it in there
Edit: OH, gotcha

Persephonia haven't been setting the scoreboard on fire so far - could they send Robyn to her first ever flop?
And Xanaga get their second 12 of the night! However, Lievant move back onto the 10s at the same time their closest competitors get very little, giving them a big 20 point lead - surely it's still too early to call it though?

Interesting how people are mentioning 'When Love Takes Over'. There was one song I heard that made me think of 'WLTO' more than any other song. That song was Alice Svensson 'I Wanna Live' (listen to the piano melody in the background - very similar).

Posted by: Tyron 24th April 2011, 07:56 PM
Caerfyrddia have a mixed record in the contest, but have generally been one of the more successful newcomers in the last year. How will Katzenjammer fare after their renowned success the first time around with Bar In Amsterdam? So far they seem to be doing well...
And another 10 for Lievant propels them forward, but Batidas get their fourth 12 of the night (already!), keeping the lead to 18 points. We're beginning to see a three-horse race develop…can anybody from below move into the pack?

I can vouch for that, it makes Family Fortunes seem like a breeze to host. But it's definitely nice seeing the results before anybody else and presenting them to everyone. A tad awkward when you're presenting them and you know that you're the winner though

Quotosibb missed out on the finals for the first time ever with noted FLOP ARTISTÉS Parade, bringing to an end the most successful qualification run ever in the contest (which extended all the way back to VI, three years ago!). How will their votes go?
And Xanaga get their THIRD 12 of the night from noted black-girl lovers Quotosibb, but they've only received eight points tonight that haven't been 12s! It's still enough to put them into the top five. Meanwhile, Batidas finally draw level with Lievant, putting both on 77 and 21 points ahead of third place…

Tinnmark are sending Anna Abreu this time, who's well remembered for her successes - namely in XX when she finished 2nd with Music Everywhere. She seems to be having it out with Stine Bramsen again for success so far, although perhaps not as much as she'd like.
Debutantes FYR Vojvodina-on-the-Wold receive their first ever 12! And we have yet another set of votes where the big hitters receive little, with just a 1 to Batidas - although Ojnoj and Numayania pull their way up with some substantial pointage.

Ojnoj are currently residing in FOURTH - will they take the opportunity to shoot themselves in the foot?
And they take the chance with ABSOLUTE GUSTO, pushing Numayania ahead and giving the host nation a well-needed 10 to propel them into the main pack, just 13 points off of the leaders - who haven't received major points for quite some time…Ashton, meanwhile get another 12, pushing Molly to the periphery of the top five.

And, we go to the Batidian delegation for their votes…
"Here's Batidas's votes for BJSC XXXIII - I'd like to congratulate you in advance on your victory.
12 pts = People's Republic of Jester: Alexandra Stan 'Mr. Saxobeat' 10 pts = Greenfroze: Alice Svensson 'I Wanna Live' 8 pts = Ashton: Molly Sandén 'Det Är Inte Jag' 7 pts = Kopecka: Vendela 'Punk Rock Song' (outrageous!!!) 6 pts = Farahtyn: Ola 'All Over The World' 5 pts = Hendinia: Rasmus Seebach 'Natteravn' 4 pts = Bare and Naked Gardens: Tiesto; Kay 'Work Hard, Play Hard' 3 pts = Numayania: Morten Hampenberg & Alexander Brown; Stine Bramsen 'I Want You (To Want Me Back)' 2 pts = Lievant: Vanbot 'Make Me, Break Me' 1 pts = Lorikeet: Wolfette 'Waiting For The Explosion'
Chryss Topfér (President of Batidas)"
The congratulations may be a little early to the host nation, as Batidas still remain in the lead! But big points to the rest of the top six are more than welcome for pushing people ahead, and a second 12 in the row to Alexandra Stan puts her into the top ten!

Morpeth Calling!
Queen Tone Damli here wishing Molly the best of luck in the contest and announcing the results of the Federal Republic of Ashton's voting.
The results of 3.9bn televotes, 81m online votes, 478m red button votes, the jury vote and The Presidential Vote by Emperor Silas for points 1 through 7 are:
Being awarded 8 points by Ashton is a country who I have had the honour of representing twice, and while i may not have had as much success with them as I have with Ashton it gives me great pleasure to award Tinnmark Ashton's 8.
The 10 and 12 points are being awarded to two former Ashtonise 12 pointers.
10 points from Ashton is going to.....
The Peoples Republic of Jester.
The country taking the 12 from Ashton previously appeared at this spot with the best non-FSR Rontvian discovery as voted for by the Ashtonise public.
This is of course, "eliZe - Can't You Feel It", meaning Bare and Naked Gardens takes the 12
Thank you to everyone who has voted for Ashton and Molly Sandén in her return to this glorious contest. On behalf of the Federal Republic of Ashton I wish you all the best of luck.
Good night!

Instead we get some Danish bitch votes, the top two points going to Danish-language tracks (and Stine Bramsen being completely ignored. The OUTRAGE.). Of course, Agnes Obel gets a 7 (she IS Danish after all!), giving her a very solid 20 point lead with just 13 juries to go. Is it a sign?

I think after I snubbed your entry in XIV, I've given you a hell of a lot more points since, in general.
It strengthened the alliance if anything! Only this contest and Cinderella Theory saw you score low points from me, which was a shame as I like both songs a lot. Numayania tend to score either VERY highly from me or low points with rarely anything in the middle. The only time I didn't give any points was that song which came 11th(?) by that guy who I've completely forgotten the name of which was only average for me

Bignia-Zaragovina had emergency issues with their line in the semi-finals, meaning they couldn't vote (although they would've failed to qualify anyway), but they've managed to avoid the dreaded death by Canned Heat by submitting their votes for the final.
And a second 10 in a row to the hosts pushes Vendela back into second place! Molly Sanden surges back into a packed top ten that's tighter than Connie Talbot's cunt, whilst Kathaldazia get another point at the bottom. By the way, notice those italics for Kathaldazia and Kylienips' points? That indicates they mathematically can't win anymore, and they'll start working their way up the scoreboard…

Bignia-Zaragovina Thank you very much!
Nice to be back in the top10. It would be a respectable result for us to stay there.
I echo the You'll Never Love Me love. I'm still loving it

So, to Hendinia - who aren't doing quite as well as the odds suggested they would…
And it's all go in the top six again, as PR Jester get ANOTHER 12, sending them over the 100-point mark, and the hosts get six points, cutting the Batidian lead to a slender three points. Kathaldazia get another three, but it's not doing much for them…or Vojvodina-on-the-Wold (*Serbia declare war on Kopečka for failing to use the correct former Yugoslav label*) who are now mathematically incapable of victory. I'm so shocked!

TYRREN, can you reply to my vote PM as I can't recall which ones I liked and which ones I didn't (top few aside)...

I'm surprised that people who disliked Sadness Is A Blessing loved You'll Never Love Me - and vice versa - because my first thought when I saw the confirmations was that they were pretty similar in many respects and would steal votes from each other!

I'm sure Tyrren is more than aware not to have counted them. I did however send Tyrren a PM before the deadline (which was BEFORE your response in the other thread as it wasn't in time, honestly such sloppy modship! ) with my choices in case my votes would be allowed.
I'm not familiar enough with the countries yet to know which I wanted to do well so I'm merely requesting that he responds so that I can see how they are doing.

APOLS, a flatmate had a tobacco crisis and I had to try and save them.
So, to Xanaga - who started off very well with lots of 12s all around but have fallen into the bottom half of late…
And another ten pushes the hosts into the lead at the death! Seven juries remain - and Farahtyn are fighting hard for a top five place off the back of that 12, pushing down Tinnmark and Torchwood. Oh, and I make that another swathe of countries that now can't win…

Espen missed their first final in quite a while after Mylene Farmer lost out by a single point! Commiserations - you'd have easily made it in SF2 I think
And Batidas take the lead again! This is a rivalry which isn't going to die easily - Farahtyn surge to start nipping at Lievant, who also move a mere 13 points away from the hosts. It's all still up in the air! And everyone below Xanaga can no longer win…

Let see how the Herzebanian vote goes! Linda Pritchard's been propping up the scoreboard with a few others for the majority of the voting…
A 12 to Farahtyn knocks Lievant out of the top three for the first time in ages! A three to the hosts keeps the fight for victory alive though with four votes left and a mere six point lead for Riverside.Oh, and if you aren't top seven: SOZ, you're not a potential winner anymore.

So, to Yuxhaaq! The former winners sent Kate Ryan for the first time since Xanaga in VIII with Elle Elle L'a.
And Vojvodina-on-the-Wold receive a second 12! Which keeps them in 26th. SHAME. A 10 pushes Torchwood into the top five, but more importantly, with three votes to go the hosts get a two point lead over Riverside…
Posted by: gooddelta 24th April 2011, 09:52 PM
Amazing that Ola's doing so well, I almost sent that a few months ago but went with Her Majesty & The Wolves for that one, although that came top ten anyway. To think that he's the only Swedish pop male to have not been sent, he finally gets his chance and goes top five instantly!

To Torchwood! Currently top five - and will the famously imbalanced voting alliance triumph once more?
And it goes on! A second eight in a row gives a ten point advantage to the host nation and the audience goes absolutely wild - and with just two votes left, it's just Batidas and Kopečka in it, but there's still a fierce war on for third and a place in the top ten, with Rontvia nipping in with a douze from Torchwood.

The hosts always used to do it like this until people started complaining that it was too fabricated and that the obvious twists were undermining the reality of the votes, or whatever...
But I prefer it being more exciting too. In contests where a song soars ahead (Silly Boy, Hollywood, The Last Time) it's much harder to 'manipulate' though.

01 ıı Hendinia 02 ıı Batidas 03 ıı Caerfyrddia
Shock! Anything above 4 points will immediately hand victory to the hosts…
Will Aquafina end it all and give the 12 to the hosts?
…
12 ıı FSR RONTVIA
And Rontvia get another 12 in a row, putting them back into the top half! This means that Batidas need to get the host nation's 8 or above to be in contention for victory...

So, to the final three. Our 8 points go to a Danish icon. We are, of course, referring to…
STINE BRAMSEN for Numayania!
And our 10 goes to a Scandinavian beauty with a heartrending track which we fell in love with along with everyone else. It's only natural that we give 10 points to…
MOLLY SANDEN for Ashton!

So, without further ado, giving them their sixth 12...AGNES OBEL of BATIDAS!

Well it was actually part of a megamix I wouldn't normally listen to him through choice.
Anyhoo, congratulations Batidas, when was the first time a debut nation won the contest?
Numayania top 10 too Guess I will send a K-pop song next time

THAT is the most prevalent example of self foot shooting ever seen in BJSC, particularly as it was deliberate But YES
Incredible winner, the best (which wasn't mine) probably ever for me, I think it's an absolutely stunning song Well done Hits, and on the debut contest, looking forward to going to Batidas next month!
Also, not a fan of Vanbot Tyron? Thought she'd be right up your street!
I'm quite ecstatic at lucky 13th in the end, top half of the scoreboard = HIT - phew!
Thanks for hosting Tyron, another excellent production as per!

Well done Hits.

I genuinely voted right at the beginning! I love Vanbot dearly, but Make Me Break Me isn't her best - it still finished 11th for me though

I think it's the only song with a really strong melody on the entire album. I love the production of it but it's taking an absolute age for me to recall any of the songs off hand.
On a separate note, great to see Lady Marlene in the top ten too, well done Ghosty And Ashton/Numayania for scoring another top ten each!
My pre-contest predictions weren't a disaster - I got the winner correct, as well as 2nd and 3rd (wrong way round though) and my 6th place prediction for PRoJ was pretty spot on there It's the glass ceiling for Euro dance hits I think. 10th being the floor!

I was thinking this! A massive turnaround from the semi where I got the joint highest amount of 12s It's the main reason I thought it was right for Riverside to win really - what's two extra voters when the other song is the favourite of six of the voters?

I also have two winning positions overall But winners are too easily focused on, whereas runners up are forgotten a lot of the time - hence why I'd do a Survivor to knock out the least faves each time and find the best over all of the 33 contests.

I don't see why not after XXXIII was apparantly regarded as one of the most successful. When we have a semi final with more than 25 countries in each, then you know it's more than a bonafide success. (although hopefully not for XXXIV as I wouldn't cope with up to 50 countries taking part ).
Posted by: Silas 25th April 2011, 07:27 PM
Nobody thought we'd make it to 3.5years and 33 contest [plus 3 spin offs, 3 TBO's and 3 reject's]
Who knows how long it'll run for. A couple of months ago BJSC was as good as dead, now it's really picked back up again.
Posted by: Tyron 25th April 2011, 07:29 PM
Actually, that was what caused the contest to start going downhill - we had to start trying to find ways of getting it down from 50+ contestants as semis started getting properly brutal, and getting in a slightly unfriendly semi could be disastrous as there were so many countries. A level between 40 and 50 is perfect however - I'm going to provisionally predict about 46 entries this time around.
Posted by: Silas 25th April 2011, 07:31 PM
BJSC XX had semi's with 26 people in each.
It's nice to be a bit bellow that again as it was starting to get a little crazy
Posted by: gooddelta 25th April 2011, 07:54 PM
My winners rank, based on a mixture of how good they actually were as winners and how much I like the song. I'm not biased, honest!
13 - Herzebania // Agnes Carlsson – Release Me - It's easy to take this and the other UK hit winners for granted but there was no way of telling that this song would have any more of a chance at success than the hundreds of other Scandipop songs entered. The key difference? This is one of the greatest Scandipop songs of all time, my favourite ever in fact. I was sending one of my favourite entries that month in M.A.G.I.C. and yet I was still championing this to win in front of it! Peter introduced me to the song (via PM before sending it), so it's only fair that it's on top. By FAR my favourite BJSC winner musically too.
17 - FSR Rontvia // Beautiful Small Machines - Robots In Love - SO glad that this won, seriously! When I heard it I knew it had potential. It also managed to win Unknown Pleasures on CHC at the time, so a massive crossover song indeed It's absolutely gorgeous as well
31 - FSR Rontvia // Sheelah - The Last Time - How did they manage to better Psycho? The first time I heard this I thought, well if that can win BJSC then this certainly can - although I hadn't actually planned to send it but quickly realised that it was my favourite song by a mile at the time and that I really HAD to send it. Whereas Anna Abreu whores her way around countless countries, Sheelah ARE Rontvian, the closest thing we have to a country mascot
33 - Batidas // Agnes Obel - Riverside - Brilliant winner, the fact that even the people that didn't give it points haven't crawled out of the woodwork as usual to say '$hit winner' shows that it's a respected victory for a deserving track, whether it appeals to you or not
26 - FSR Rontvia // Sheelah - Psycho
09 - Kingdom of Shadow // Margaret Berger - Will You Remember Me Tomorrow - Certainly not my favourite winner, but a defining winner, and THE song of BJSC I guess
12 - Kopečka // La Roux - Quicksand
03 - Bhangra // Dixie Chicks - Not Ready to Make Nice - I knew this already but it was a great entry and I was pleasantly surprised that it won!
11 - Eledan // Lenka - The Show - This was a lovely winner, and Lenka is surprisingly still great - I'll be shocked if something from her new album isn't entered to BJSC34
32 - FSR Rontvia // Lykke Li - Sadness Is A Blessing - Really shocking winner to me, I've certainly had better but maybe it marked yet another BJSC shift, with Agnes Obel following it up, Scandipop dead again in favour of indie girls (still from Scandinavia though )?
05 - Eledan // t.A.T.u - Gomenasai
15 - Mdiče // Röyksopp; Robyn - The Girl And The Robot - I adore this, and XV was amazing, but in terms of actual inspiration I'd have preferred Jody to win - both songs finished next to each other in my 2009 EOY top 40, but I gave Jody the 12 because it made a more interesting entry
30 - Hendinia // Adele - Someone Like You (live) - Nice that we pre-empted the Brits hype/her general massive success with this winning! I only gave it 7 points (under the 18 system) although mainly because I knocked 0.5% off it because of my scoring system.
18 - Mdiče // Kesha - Dolla (Tik Tok demo)
06 - Quotosibb // Beverley Knight - Black Butta (Live)
24 - BaNG // Delphic - Halcyon
04 - FSR Rontvia // Sara Bareilles - Love Song - It wasn't as cheap as it looks though, honest! Although it was top five in the US by the time I sent it I think. I was loving it at the time of the first contest though, I just took an age to getting round to send it - I really should have debuted with it
07 - Mdiče // Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl
27 - Kopečka // Eric Saade - It's Gonna Rain
14 - FSR Rontvia // Uh Huh Her - Not A Love Song - Not sure how I won with this, I still really like it but what a terrible contest XIV was to allow it to win
25 - Hendinia // Roll Deep; Jodie Connor - Good Times
28 - Ashton // Molly Sandén - Mitt Liv Är Mitt - Not my favourite Ashton entry by any means, but I'll give it credit for being the first foreign language winner and finally a win for one of my two favourite BJSC nations!
21 - Lorikeet // The Dolly Rockers - Boys Will Be Boys
20 - Numayania // Alphabeat - The Spell
23 - Quotosibb // Marina & The Diamonds - Hollywood - CHEAP AS CHIPS! But the fact that it's a great song stops it from being rock bottom
22 - BaNG // Ellie Goulding - Under The Sheets
29 - Yuxhaaq // Zoe Badwi - Freefallin'
08 - Nonsuch // Lily Allen - Guess Who Batman (f*** You demo)
01 - Mdiče // Britney Spears - And Then We Kiss
16 - Mdiče // VV Brown - Shark in the Water
19 - Kathaldazia // Eva Simons - Silly Boy - Ridiculously overhyped, although even I gave it 3 points
10 - Mdiče // Brandy - Right Here - Never really 'got' this
02 - Bokia // Katharine McPhee - Dangerous - I don't remember much about BJSCII at all to be honest, apart from me flopping again, but this was not a good winner, and I like Katharine McPhee generally!

I can't even remember how Uh Huh Her goes and I gave it a 10! I was just ecstatic as we didn't get a cheap winner out of the hordes of opportunistic entries off the back of Alesha Dixon doing so well the month before. I'd have preferred Velvet - Take My Body Close to get the win...

I can remember how Uh Huh Her goes! I still love it
And people think I don't actually like the Rontvian tracks i give 12's to

I do obviously remember how it goes but out of the non-cheap songs that people could have flocked to, I was surprised it was that - I recall predicting it to finish 21st, and you know I'm not one for fake modesty, I genuinely expected it to do nothing. But indeed, that top ten was DREADFUL.
It was really disappointing that although there were quite a few great and inspired entries (We Keep On Rockin', Emenne-Moi, Method Of Modern Love and Amarula Tree spring to mind) everyone was far too busy voting for was it eight(?) about to smash songs that reached the top 15 in that contest.
But any of my runners up - M.A.G.I.C., Music Everywhere, and Broken Machine I'd have preferred as winners to Not A Love Song. It was just in the right place at the right time - in any other contest it would have struggled to go top five

Love Story may GENUINELY be the worst entry we've ever had - not musically, but in terms of timing it's close. Definitely up there with Maneater.

Riverside has to come close too. Luckily I DNQ'd. It restored part of my faith in BJSC

That wasn't sent the week it was #1 in the midweeks though!

Kelly Clarkson beat her, OH YEAHHHHHHHH! (In the midweeks I believe she was trailing behind KC all week)

It was a male electro dance track which wasn't *that* popular on BJ. Try the same trick now with On The Floor and see if it DNQ's - I guarantee that it wouldn't. Again, thank god for the mod veto!

I believe so. Kelly pulled ahead by the end. It was impossible for me to pick sides in that battle because musically I far prefer Love Story, and still do, but Kelly is superior in every other way, and it was about time she had a UK #1.

I don't think it was. Actually, come to think of it, it probably was...

I'd choose 'My Life Would Suck Without You' over 'Love Story' every time. 'LS' is just too dreadry and whilst 'MLWSWY' was 'Since U Been Gone Pt II', it was still the better song. I'm sure Kelly Clarkson was #1 throughout the week.

I LOVE Love Story (although I far prefer the twangy country original to the pop remix) but there was no way it was ever getting my votes.

After a bit of research (it was doing my head in haha!) Kelly C was ahead all week. I think it was close (sales wise) that week though... But anyway, it doesn't matter. It still means the same thing haha!
Posted by: Silas 25th April 2011, 08:46 PM
My Life Would Suck Without You is clearly the superior track there.

I adored Love Story, I found MLWSWY very generic and Kelly on autopilot, but obviously Kelly on autopilot is still amazing! Ah, I know where I'm getting mixed up now - it's because Love Story stayed at #2 the following week whilst Kelly fell below and ended up higher in the EOY chart, for some reason in my mind I've interpreted 'should have got to #1' as 'was a midweek #1' Well really, one of them should have been released the week before so that they could have both been #1's but there we go...

Agreed, I can't listen to the UK mix, really bland in comparison I don't know what version Simon sent to the contest as frankly I didn't ever click on the link to the video. That contest only took me an hour to vote in really, I already knew most of the entries well enough from watching the music channels in the weeks beforehand

This chart suggests otherwise. http://www.chartstats.com/chart.php?week=20090314 but you're quite right in that Taylor Swift stuck around higher up the chart than Kelly Clarkson did.

I've been looking back through some of the previous entries and some of them are remarkably famous... The Verve's Bittersweet Symphony is the one that springs immediately to mind as being the worst offender, in what way was that ever going to be a new discovery for anyone!

Oh dear, I'm getting the week she stuck at #5 mixed up, and thinking that she stayed at #2 :/ I really should research these things before posting!

There are LOADS of ridiculous ones, the contest took a while to get into the proper swing of things. I'd say this is the first contest we've ever had where there's not been a single entry I can say is likely to be a massive hit in the next few weeks or has already been (where most have been aware) where there's also been a lot of enthusiasm.

Congrats Batidas, a nice song.
16th for Dalisska, not too bad. Especially for a song I was really unsure how it would be received.
I'm not sure if Dalisska will be able to take part in the next BJSC though, probably not because of exams.

There was a long period where a lot of people used to moan that 'everyone should be able to send their favourite song whatever it is' whilst the other half of us argued that sending something like that was completely pointless and indeed, wouldn't be a discovery to anyone, a very good point being that sending and voting on chart and future hits is about as fun as sitting down and ranking the multichart
But you'd be surprised how 50/50 it always was, a massive proportion of people were intent that they should be able to send whatever, even though it was quietly destroying the contest with at least one song that everyone already knew guaranteed a top five placing almost every month. It came to a head in XIV where 7 or 8 songs literally on the brink of becoming smash hits finished inside the top ten. Those 'for' sending whatever you liked argued that one or two 'cheap' songs doing well every month didn't matter, but for me personally it definitely did, I just didn't see why the latest promoted to hell/hyped up Alesha Dixon or Pink single should take away a top three position from an inspired entry that was a discovery to all.
