Very excited! Would be very happy with Botanikka, Danæviia or Altyr winning but tbh not enough people are talking about Thelonia

All of the hype seems a bit too sure of the frontrunners, kind of expecting someone unexpected to take the crown.

Our full 18 this month goes to Quintessa serving a glorious piece of indie folk meets post rock, the fourth time they've received top points from us and first in nearly two and a half years, following Avec Sans in BJSC 79, Wings Of The ISANG in BJSC 109 and Weyes Blood in BJSC 115, lifting their overall medal tally from us to 4 golds, 1 silver and 1 bronze. Our top pick from this month's electronic tracks is Kathaldazia who just keep proving unable to miss, picking up 15 points this time with an epic techno instrumental - this is their 9th finalist in a row to make our votes and a new highest placing for them, their medal tally from us standing at 1 silver and 3 bronzes (Pascal Letoublon in BJSC 124, Will Sparks in BJSC 133 and SWIM in BJSC 137 each picking up 13 points before). We're sure an 18 is bound to happen one of these days. It's back to guitar music for our 13 which goes to an edgy grunge-y offering from Jupiterdonia which proved to be a big grower across the contest, providing their first medal position for us since our 15 points to Nicole Dollanganger in BJSC 119, and their medal tally now standing at 2 silvers and 1 bronze also including 15 points to FEVER 333 in BJSC 112.

In a contest with a lot of big standouts where none of our major favourites DNQed (our biggest loss Kluminican Republic would have landed around 3 points if it had qualified) all of our top 7 felt worthy of medal positions here but alas four of those have to fall short - 12 points go to Rolloland continuing a very strong year of entries with my new favourite song from Blanck Mass, 11 go to another indie folk-ish track this time with an electronic tinge from Niceland, 10 go to probably the biggest earworm of the contest, the hook-filled dancehall/reggaetón stomper from Beaverdonia which is their first points from us since we gave 11 to The HU in BJSC 118 (not helped by most of their entries since DNQing of course x), and it's a criminally low 9 to our lovely hosts/auto-qualifiers and eternal fave providers Jadakissnia with a moody dark synth banger, actually a better song than the one we gave 10 points to last month. Rounding out the top 10, returnees Chestoria provided another big grower with their Lorde/Olivia Rodrigo-alike entry getting a surprisingly strong 8 points, a somewhat Animal Collective-esque electronic cut from Fljótavík gets our 7 points and 6 points go to Aeroche stealing Aquafina's sauce except doing it a little more infectiously x

Mesmerising South African house from Cumulonimbia picks up 5 points, The Weeknd meets Years & Years R&B/pop provides 4 points to Altyr Muunilinst (their first showing in our votes since 6 points to Austra in BJSC 123), 3 points go to Funkytown a gloomy yet camp banger from Aelandor, 2 points go to a ~theatrical~ electronic track from N DNTN and our mealworm point is donated to some flop awarded to Cor Lupus doing their best Aeroche impression again.

Congrats once again to Addy, what a thrill that was to prepare as a host with all the swapping at the top so many of my votes in the top 10 tbh, taste!

Quite liking the fact that I came 26th as it's a full circle moment from the very first time I was involved with hosting a BJSC (albeit a co-host) with jj - 'All White Everything' finishing 26th too *.*

Speaking of hosting... I've always found the idea of taking on a whole BJSC really daunting and I didn't know if I could handle it but... made it out of the other side, yay I've thoroughly enjoyed it and glad that I agreed to it after 3 times co-hosting in the past. Happy to have wrapped it up at 10pm also and not closer to 11 like the semis

Congratulations Addy, a second win for you was greatly overdue especially with you being on such top form so far this year! I'm not super crazy about the song myself (was ranked 25th for me) but that's the case for the rest of the top 3 too so I'm just a little out of the loop on the biggest dance bloc faves this month in general can certainly understand why they all proved so popular!

Particularly given I sent it with no real hopes at all and almost instantly regretted sending it It's a fab tune though so thanks to all the people who voted, in particular Addy and Leonardo for the +18s! (and rare high points from Bré as well ) Good to see Persephonia and FARC make the Top 10, would have been nice to see Summericia and Utopia a bit higher but ah well. Congratulations Addy! A great winner that I can fully get behind. Tbh I feel like Botanikka's entry last edition was robbed so glad this is getting justice!

Danæviia and Thelonia are amazing entries to wrap up top 3. FARC is ranked a bit too low (I know they finished 9th but still) in my opinion I thought this is in contention for a win! Great to see Niceland reaching the 200-point mark despite a reduction in the number of voters. Chestoria is robbed big time... Such a lively and fresh tune the song demonstrates and should be way way higher! Aesthetica is also robbed as well

Oh well 31st place is not an ideal position to finish in the end but thanks a lot for a good number of double-digit points I received in the final! To be fair, when I sent this entry to BJSC, the usual after-doubts appear and I'm a bit worried this song is a bit too left-field though it is such a well-produced song. I was initially not very sure that it will qualify but glad this seems to find an audience during the listenthrough. This kind of genre is also not a genre that appeals to me often but glad I uncovered this gem!

The final edition of 2021 I'm going to send my ace card. If you follow my top 50 charts, you might have a clue or two in figuring out which one I will go for. There is a chance my first choice is going to be vetoed but I also have a strong backup if that happens (will send this to the first edition of 2022 if my first choice goes through). Have to say I'm super excited at my next entry!

Congrats Addy! It always sounded like the winner but I always felt Dan would be in hot pursuit - two BRILLIANT songs. RontBet did very well, just slightly underpredicting Thelonia, and overpredicting NDNTN in the end!

Elated for Dan to come 2nd, I'm sure he didn't expect it before the hype came in but there's something irresistible about country songs with big choruses and dance production.

A very strong top ten indeed, I can't fault it. And I'm really happy with 24th, I thought poor Sally's subtlety may work against her and end her up in the bottom five but it did a lot better than I thought in a sea of huge sounding songs <3

Dobago deserved way better, what a song and artist! But I could see that was heading for a low finish sadly.

Thanks so much for a brilliant contest and hosting Jade, great to be finished this early too so I could see the result as I've got to go to bed early today!

Here's hoping for a great final contest of the year in Botanikka, the quality of this one will be hard to beat - the top two, plus Dobago and Kluminican Republic's DNQ are four of my favourite entries in quite a long time!

Congrats Addy! The last time you won was my very first contest I liked both of the top 2 but leant a bit more towards that and it had an inspired choice of sample. Great to see Kathaldazia and Rolloland do so well and a lot of my other big favourites and/or ones that just missed the cut in the top half is great to see.

Top 3 aside (not that I hated any of them, they were all between 23rd and 31st in my ranking x) we ended up with a really strong top 10 here! Good result for Aeroche even if they didn't quite end up being among the medalists (only one chance left for them to maintain their streak of getting at least one win per calendar year ) and excellent to see Rolloland in the top 5, I did think that was the most likely of my more niche faves to do so well so glad to see that coming to fruition, thought it was an even better song than the other Blanck Mass entry which came 10th! Then also fantastic to see Kathaldazia in the top 10 too (one I was less confident in doing so well) and I also voted for Altyr and wasn't far off voting for Aquafina, good to see them making the top 10 with their anniversary entry!

And of course yasss for myself making the top 10 *.* This year so close to being the first year since 2012 where I didn't achieve at least one top 10 hit so I was fully preparing for that streak to end but thrilled that my pivot to sending something a little more more mainstream sounding paid off so nicely to avoid that! That could have backfired so easily (if it resulted in me losing a ton of points from the crowd that usually votes for me without picking up enough new voters to replace them) but I had faith that myself being such a big fan of this despite it being objectively quite a basic song would translate into it being popular with the usual suspects too and that is basically what happened with the bonus of also getting double figure points from the likes of Greenfroze, FSR Rontvia, Niceland and Tartford who are very much not my usual supporters - thank you muchly to all of the voters <3 no 18s this month but more than satisfied with 5 medal positions and a bunch more sets of 10-12 points. And the most important thing of all, finally knocking off another one of those elusive unique positions only 9th left to go for me to have the entire top 10 (and the entire top 26 at that). Pressure is off for me next month then, just as well because my current frontrunner for my BJSC 140 entry is something pretty wacky (to make up for how basic I was this month) that I highly doubt will be contending for anything close to the top 10 xx

A few more of my faves also bunching up just outside the top 10, great results for FLJ, Niceland and Jupiterdonia (and Beaverdonia pre-deduction)! Also pretty good for Aelandor and Cumulonimbia. 23rd for Quintessa is not bad but that was another one like Rolloland where I thought it had a reasonable chance of dark horsing quite high up the results in a similar fashion to Wings Of The ISANG so a bit of a shame that didn't happen, also a bit of a lower finish than I hoped for Jadakissnia, and I'm not too sure what happened with Chestoria, I guess they hadn't been named as big contenders or anything but they definitely don't deserve to be anywhere close to the bottom 10 </3

We have to stan the #beaverdecides votes pushing Aquafina into the top 10 and lifting Schnuffel off last place

Congratulations Addy, I was rooting on Fancy to win, a really great discovery that livened up a song I'd probably have never thought to listen to otherwise but I could see the appeal of 'Midnight Rapture' even if it wasn't quite for me (just below Persephonia in my ranks). And thanks Jade for doing some wonderful hosting

I am delighted with my result, this went far better than I expected and I adore 'end of a life' to pieces so it was really great going through and seeing who'd voted for it, even the many who had it in their commisserations, thank you <3, but especially thank you to those who did vote and especially especially to the 4 18s (!!) very pleased to have come away like that and with a good fair position of 22nd. I don't have to inflict Calli on you guys anymore (probably, unless she does another angle I feel is different, I'll just be shilling it in the normal places).

Aww at 'Thunder' just missing the top 10 (along with a lot of the rest of my votes) but I was slightly scared it wouldn't qualify when I heard it in the other semi (I need to have more trust in BJSC sometimes), but good to see Rolloland in the top 5 and of course 'Fancy' nearly snatching it.

Ooft Thelonia just 16 pts from the win then - pretty close in that Top 3 - but great to see them matching their peak anyways and a rly strong T10 in all! Amazing to see Godford Top 10 and Blanck Mass in the Top 5 as well, was rooting for that to do well so very pleased with that result and actually winning the semi too, brilliant stuff. Well done to Addy on the win and Dan for pushing Anabel Englund all the way for a close photo finish, I am looking forward to a Bøtanikkä hosted contest cos the last one was before my time.

Thanks for all the points, it's good to be back in the top 20! 16th matches the result for "Kyra" all the way back in BJSC 130, other than that my most recent top 20 is 19th with "Alive" in BJSC 132. Really happy "Military Fashion Show" struck a chord with so many of you with the weird funkytown (which I didn't notice before I entered it to this contest but now I see it )/ camp/ industrial synthpop vibe that I love so much. Wasn't expecting to do this well tbh.

I've actually kept on top of these stats and I'm updating my national thread, Bré would be proud.

Great winner, it only just missed my votes and I was swapping it in and out of them. Also good to see Persephonia and Rolloland so high with a respectable placing for Séyetana.
