sorry I've missed the start of these results - I'm not going to be adding up the results live this time as I usually do oops (blame Excel crashing on me earlier as I was trying to set up the spreadsheet, was still trying to rush to get it ready in time but I was already like 15 minutes behind by the time I'd finally sorted the sheet and I don't really fancy trying to catch up as I'm feeling a little stressed at the moment anyway, I shall still add everything up later so apologies if there are any scoreboard corrections coming through later than usual x). Rose Gray leading isn't a surprise I guess as lots of people predicted it to do well but I didn't really get that one personally (I actually liked 'Save Your Tears' more) so chalk it up to me being out of touch again if that does end up winning. We love to see Ibibio Sound Machine doing so well though!! Good to see Stevie Nicks up there as well. The rest of the top 10 though... hmm x (as I was typing this up we got another scoreboard update, yay for Kohta and Shonen Bat being top 10 now too and Ibibio actually getting quite close to the top, that would be a fantastic winner, let's make it happen)

Ooops at Lotunia still being on 0 (although these don't appear to be in order of receipt so Noche setting himself up for a heroic rise out of last place later? )

Here are the votes from Utopia! Thanks to everyone who has voted for 'Protection From Evil'

Since Utopia returned to the contest in 2018 we've now voted for them on 22/23 potential occasions, but VLURE are the first act to get the full 18 for Fljótavík, an easy choice of 18 this month. The medal positions are completed by Persephonia and Summericia this month with Skall just missing out receiving 12 for the second contest running.

The total points awarded tally to Sovarasma doubles this month with an 11, and Kathaldazia continues an excellent run of entries receiving points for a 12th contest in a row, they're followed closely by POPHub , Eastovka and Kluminican Republic, the former two both receive their first ever points from Utopia. Good evening, thank you to Lotunia for hosting this month, here are the final votes for BJSC 145 from Persephonia

Aelandor last got an 18 from us with Kælan Mikla in BJSC 140 which was cheating a bit as that song was already a big hit on our shores and from an artist we'd sent ourselves before, but they have quickly followed it up with another 18 this month this time for a song that is a brand new discovery and possibly our favourite of the year to date, a stormer of a track and the best on offer from a strong #rockbloc this month which brings their medal tally from us up to a total of 4 golds, 2 silvers and 1 bronze. That leaves our silver instead going to a song that we already knew well but still a well deserved 15 points to the excellent Hot Chip produced afro-funk from Utopia, their first medal position for us since an 18 to Hurtsfall in BJSC 122 and actually the first time they've ever been in our top 3 but not #1 (their medal tally now stands at 6 golds and 1 silver). It was very close between our 13 and 12 pointers, another pair of fantastic discoveries, but just edging it out to grab the bronze medal is our fellow breakbeat enterers Cumulonimbia, just a couple of months after their last bronze with Rakky Ripper, taking them up to 2 golds, 1 silver and 4 bronzes. Just falling short of the podium is Fljótavík with their IDLES-flavoured post-punk tune, while our 11 goes to another already established hit on Persephonian shores from Sovarasma (consider us impressed that there were enough great discoveries this month for this to get 'only' 11 points). FSR Rontvia continue to prove consistently great with electronic entries and pick up another 10 points from us with their latest lo-fi delight (their highest points from us since a 12 to Self Esteem exactly a year ago), Rolloland serve post-rock excellence to pick up 9 points, Kluminican Republic picked a great Aeroche leftover to grab 8 points from us (here's hoping this will do better than 'Come Closer'), Kathaldazia came through with another grower and banger courtesy of HATE and get 7 points while our 6 goes to Danæviia who are 2 for 2 on proper tunes with their recent surprise pivot to #rockbloc, more where that came from pls. Also realising this is our 5th contest in a row voting for Danæviia (likely would be 6th if HUGEL had qualified) which I believe is a record, we love to see this run of form.

More post-punk (ish) from Terra Avium completes the set of #rockbloc songs in our votes with 5 points, an iconic slutpop bop from The Actual Republic of Bellamia simply had to be here somewhere and gets 4 points from us (their first appearance in our votes since we gave 6 to DREAMDNVR in BJSC 131), the marginally more credible entry from Trifoski picks up 3 points, our hosts Lotunia get 2 points for a pretty lovely K-Pop ballad making it 2 for 2 on the auto-qualifiers getting points from us (here's hoping for it to not come last) and winning a close tussle for our mealworm point is Yehesi with a pretty earwormy Dutch pop bop which is our first points to them since our 8 points to IAMX all the way back in BJSC 91, didn't realise it had been quite THAT long, I hope this singular point was worth the 5 and a half year wait x

We're gutted to merely be on the sidelines for this wonderful final but we're usually good at bouncing back from a DNQ, so let's hope that continues. It was a shame that my 12 in the semi-final, courtesy of Dobago, also didn't make it - but it seems like semi 2 really had some treats in store as my whole top 3 is represented from there

Before we announce our votes in full - thank you to our host nation Lotunia for a marvellous presentation so far, even if drama-filled with the chairs concept! We're gutted that we couldn't quite sneak your AQ in, especially as it seems like something that would be a bit unexpected in our votes, but nice job nevertheless.

Anyway, let's gooooooo!

18 Kluminican Republic: Boy Harsher - Machina (feat. Mariana Saldaña)
I'm sure this top pointer comes as absolutely no surprise as I was hyping 'Machina' up from the moment that semi-final thread went up! Boy Harsher already had good form in BJSC as I was also a fan of Aeroche entry 'Come Closer' in the past - although that was heavily slept on - I mean, finishing outside of the top 20 in the final?! This better be given more respect than that! 'Machina' is so up my street that it made #2 in my personal chart last year. A couple of other songs from the same soundtrack ('Autonomy' and 'Give Me A Reason') also slotted in lower down, I'd definitely recommend the project. What can I say, Boy Harsher and vocalist Mariana Saldaña are a match made in spooky, 80s synthtastic heaven. The intro of this song has always reminded me of 'Don't You Want Me' by the Human League, so much so that I tried out a mash-up on rave.dj and was pretty chuffed with how it turned out, go and search out the relevant Lounge thread if curious. Another brilliant double-figure pointer this year for Klum Rep following 'FVN!' recently <3

15 Fljótavík: VLURE - Shattered Faith
Best discovery of the final goes to the ever-excellent Fljótavík as I didn't quite have time to listen to SF-2 songs during the semi voting stages. 10 seconds into this entry and my exact reaction on Discord was: "OMG what is THIS?! *." which is always a good sign for enthusiasm levels. I was instantly swept up by the passionate IDLES-esque vocals (btw, if anyone needs inspo for Pride III spin-off then Joe Talbot is bisexual and pretty awesome x) and the equally inviting synths. Such predictable scenes at the top with my known love for synths, shhhhh. I also love the general jolt of energy throbbing through the lyrics, where someone has a new lease of life, I could really do with that vigour right about now. Thanks for providing such a standout entry! FLJ, like Klum Rep, have now received two sets of double-figure points from me this year so far - the other being 'home' in 143.

13 Kathaldazia: Shonen Bat & JKS - Garonor (93 Club Mix)
Rounding off my medal podium is the equally ever-excellent Kathaldazia! They have really found a groove over the past couple of years with their brand of electronic entries, I'm so here for it. This one is no different - I was so hyped to see that this one came from the same YouTube channel that housed my top 5 smash 'strast' by Trudge last year (remember when I could get hits etc. x okay literally last month shh) and this did NOT disappoint! Like that entry, very beloved to the people of Jadakissnia, this is also a thrilling techno stomper! On top of a phenomenal high-energy instrumental it also has the added layer of choppy looped vocals. Kath advised us at the listening session that it would get better as it went along and indeed I was very much here for the introduction of squelchy production that came with the build-up. A #longsongbloc triumph - top 10 smash please! This is already Kath's third entry to receive double-figure points from us this year (it's actually the second bronze: Vitesse X got one too) - country of 2022 contender for sure.

Best of the rest:

I thought that would be the winner, it was definitely picking up way more points than I was getting, I thought it would be a bigger margin if anything.

A good winner, although I didn't vote for it it has been in my head a lot - very catchy!

Delighted with 4th place and to get so many high scores, thanks to everyone who voted for Ibibio Sound Machine A 3rd would have been nice as I'd not finished there before but I'll take anywhere in the top 10 they're so rare!

Oh wow congrats Jupiter - anniversary entries paying off in a big way two months in a row didn't vote for the winner but it wasn't far off being a commiseration. Actually I snubbed both of the top 2 but elsewhere in the top 10 I voted for quite a lot - Eastovka, Utopia, Kathaldazia, Cumulonimbia and Fljótavík

Boy Harsher missing the top 20 again they deserve better!

Wow, Jupiterdonia! Another anniversary entry winning - well done! It's a really good song and not a winner I'd have called at all. I hadn't heard it before so it's a nice discovery by a legend for me.

Amazing 2nd and 3rd, literal YASS at Eastovka top three, we can finally quash the trance is dead thing, it never was, the trance entries we had for a while just didn't click enough. I knew it would do better than expected but I hadn't thought this well, truly 18'ing its way into the top three. And FARC was wonderful, sounded like a winner to me even if it just fell short there.

Nice to see Zanmatony get a top ten finish too there.

A few surprises compared to the odds and predictions really but it was such a difficult one to call.

27th for mine is good - thanks for all the votes - after Gebirgsbachtürkis and The Ocean Sings To Me In Turquoise Waves also finished 27th, I'm starting to see a glass ceiling for my ambient/electronic entries emerging...

And of course thanks to NocheLuna for a great final, again full of suspense and great timing, not finishing too late but not over in a flash either!

Congrats to Jupiter of course with a great song, always here for Stevie Nicks and I'm looking forward to visiting Jupiterdonia next month (I might even have an entry already!) really pleased for Synchronicity in 2nd place - that clocked in at #38 recently on my personal chart but I didn't consider entering it myself! Rose Gray has a couple of other rly good songs so maybe I'll have to get recycling at some point in the future. There's a couple of songs way too low (ESPECIALLY Kluminican Rep – Boy Harsher deserved so much more ) but overall pretty good results, thanks NocheLuna for hosting a great contest

Thoroughly deserved Jupiter, I’m glad I could have helped you toward your success!

Utterly thrilled about Eastovka’s bronze medal finish! That was my 18 and so many others too, an utter joy to see after so many successive DNQ’s that weren’t deserved, I am so pleased he’s finally been recognised as a genuine contender for this competition!

And finally, as for me and my country, I am thankful for all the votes and the exciting rollercoaster final I enjoyed witnessing! I never saw my entry as a winner contender but it was in the mix for a long time which was humbling to see. Thank you for helping me achieve a final position of 7th for the first time, making it our best performing entry to date!

Jupiterdonia winning is a surprise imo That being said it's a great anniversary entry and it does not feel dated at all. Congratulations Joops for the win! Eastovka getting third is amazing to see. Hopefully this will kickstart their successful era with trance-related bops. This track is also quite special on its own and the best thing about the track is that it manages to capture my attention through a more commonly used tonality or in another words a less thought-provoking key let's say D minor which Warsaw for example completely latched on to. Synchronicity at 2nd is another good result for FARC, and a return to form I think. Hendinia flopping is surprising actually, and Rolloland finishing at 16th is probably one that I didn't see coming since it reminds me so much of Oblivion last edition and it uses a similar formula so I don't understand why it lost so many supporters!

not surprised about the winner, i mean it’s stevie nicks so of course there’ll be crossover appeal. loved the track though so well done! not really sold on the top 10 as a whole, pop was given the boot this month huh.

Quite the surprise winner indeed, but I'll definitely take it. It was a pretty instant song for me and a wonderful slice of 80s pop I hadn't been aware of before, congrats Jupiter! That's a wonderful top 10 actually, four of my top 5 being there including my 18-13 all next to each other *.*

Very pleased with 17th, way higher than I expected! That may be a new position for me, but I'll have to check that. This is a genre I don't send a lot and it was quite a spur-of-the-moment decision so excellent to see it appeal to so many different tastes on here, thank you very much to all who voted (6th in the semi too *. A couple of the entries should enter my chart next week which is why I signed up for this ~ to make such fantastic discoveries (and re-discoveries). Happy to see a lot them in the top 10 too.

My 18-10 pointers were all extremely close. I swapped them around numerous times. I felt so bad to give Rose Gray only a 10, especially with it being a great pop entry I could actually get behind. A huge improvement on the basic Save Your Years. "COMATOSE" really clicked in the final after initially not making any impression on me prior to this contest. The guitar line is so infectious. Ibibio Sound Machine has also grown since I sent my votes (wish I'd had bumped it up a bit more now). Yay for it doing so well though and breaking the African artist curse!

SHOOK with 5th! I was a bit unsure if people would have given it a chance bc of the repetitive vocal loop, and how the song progresses quite late into its long duration, but glad to be proven wrong

Also a huge thanks to Daan, Doctor Blind, Cow Cow, Pete and Ansel, Leonardo, Harve, Wardy and rare points from Seven who I missed while making dinner.

A little bit speechless with the number of +18s that were given. Even the SF results shocked me a lot. Glad I didn't scream 'cuz it was still like 3.30 AM when the final results were announced.
Congratulations Jupiterdonia and FARC! That's a close one for being a potential AQ, but a bronze medal is already more than I expected since the beginning.

Holy f*** at Eastovka in third, beyond anyone's wildest dreams it seems all that pent up aggression for #floptranceera exploded into unprecedented support. NINE 18's? We have witnessed something truly extraordinary right there.

Outstanding results on the whole really. My entire top 6 finished in the top 14, BJSC 145 you have outdone yourself.

A huge hand to NocheLuna, I'm sure it won't be long be before we're visiting your shores again (AQ curse in full effect once again I see...)

Ooft, sorry I had to miss the results- I had a 5am start this morning so had to crash early last night but thank you to Noche for a great and smoothly hosted contest, you did a fantastic job- hope you can get a well earnt rest now. Congrats to J00ps for getting the gold with a retro 80s smasher, an inspired choice.
rly great to see Ibibio Sound Machine rack up a T5 finish even if frustratingly close to the win, but regardless that's a fantastic result and I'm really pleased for Mark that it crossed over so well with so many enjoying it. “Protection From Evil” is just an incredible track that is one of my faves from the year so far. Ditto “COMATOSE” which I was also happy to see did really well for Bré.

Thanks especially all for the votes for Ivy Hollivana- particularly to Dobbo, Ansel, Frank, Bré, Kath, Rob, Dandy* and Rob for the medal positions. <3 If you liked “GENESIS” then def check out her other EPs as there's plenty of similar breakbeat/drum and bass/trance type stuff that's highly underrated IMO, she's quite into Arca and Bjork which is how I found her. Btw I think Dandy should be concerned that his taste is merging yet further with mine (or mine with his) because the rest of his Top 3 matched mine. Triple D & O's all round. *.*

I honestly didn't expect it to do as well as 14th, I think (??) that's an unique position for me as well. It is an absolute banger so I'm glad it resonated with as many of you as it did.

Stevie Nicks will always be a deserving winner so congrats on your Anniversary win Jupiter! Terra Avium at 17th as well is a good result too. #rockbloc
