We have some very exciting plans being ironed out currently that we can't wait to tell you about! The first of our changes for 2013 is this thread!!!
- Got an idea for a rule that you'd like to see introduced?
- Is there a rule you think should be changed or removed?
- Got a spin off idea in your back pocket that you're just itching to tell the world about?
- Have you had an idea for a BJSC logo that you want to share with the world?
- Have an idea about a new resource?
- Have an idea for an 'event' contest?
This is the place you can do that and more! We want to hear from you. Your ideas, your queries, your concerns, the whole nine yards! One of us will respond to your post and we will discuss everything raised in here in our mod forum.
Initially what we are really looking for is people who have an idea for a spin-off and for those people who haven't yet hosted but are dying to do so. Later this year spin-offs and Reloaded will relaunch and we are looking for people to be hosts! We don't have exact dates as of yet but I am anticipating a mid/late summer launch.
We're also planning an event for June this year. So stay tuned and get submitting!
Oh yay for more spinoffs! Can we have a 90s spinoff please?
(By the way are the BJSC Awards for last year just not happening now?)
I'd just like to suggest the possibility of BJFestivalen II sil vous plait.
Bring back the BJSC Wiki as an official resource and encourage posters to use it? I no longer even update mine because noone else uses it.
http://bjsc.wikia.com for the record...
Yeah, I didn't enter BJFestivalen last time, but would like to this time, if we did one! I'd put that ahead of a spin-off, as that often consists of lots of songs we already know, usually.
I haven't come up with anything RIGHT AWAY, but this is a good idea to have around, as one could pop up at ANY TIME.
Perhaps a spin off with semi-cheap songs only used for it? It could provide an interesting view for those who compete in it.
I'm not sure I get what you mean Oricon.
Artists such as Ricki-Lee, Charli XCX, iamamiwhoami, Darin, Icona Pop, Wynter Gordon, etc being allowed for this spin-off and only those who can be classified as "semi-cheap" permitted for this and not too overly cheap up to the point of Rihanna, Carly Rae Jepsen, Taylor Swift, etc.
Another suggestion I would have for a spin-off is songs which have been confirmed to been vetoed by BJSC contests to be gathered together and compete with one another.
That's a hard theme just because there's no real clear cut off for borderline tracks. Everyone's views differ so much that, that theme would be a lot of hard work vetting the tracks and then there's the aftermath. We're looking for theme's that the host can vet the entries for, asking the mods for advice if they are unsure, as we're going to be running these along side the regular contests and are looking for them to become self-sufficient.
We've spent a long time getting stability and ensuring we have a good level of participants so we're now looking for ways to improve the contest, how much people enjoy it and how much you guys actually get involved. With the Spin-offs/Reloaded relaunch we want to be able to take a more hands off approach to them just stepping in to offer advice and pick the hosts. We see it as a great way that you can get experience hosting before you're thrown into a main contest and as a way for you to get more involved with how the contest is run. You'd be in charge of your theme so you'd set the rules for that contest in regards to what entries you will and won't allow. You'll then have to ensure that the entries are within those rules. The main contests rules are seriously loosened for spin-offs so aside from discouraging covers that aren't reasonably different it's down to the host and their theme.
The getting involved thing is why this is here. It's all fine and well with us coming up with rule tweaks and new idea's and then getting approval after the fact but this will allow you to have input right at the word go. Transparency ftw.
Hence why before I was going to post it, I doubted myself whether it'd be a good recommendation at all as I realise it resulted in additional BJSC mod workload, something which spin-offs shouldn't lead to. If a few more ideas pop up, I'll see whether it'll be worth posting next time.
I like the idea of a VETOED round!
i have had about 1,000 spin off ideas i'll post when i'm not drunk...
An idea would be possibly when the semi-finals are up that someone could give a guide to how every country who has entered has done in BJSC.
For example:
Country Name:
Debut BJSC Contest:
BJSC's completed in:
Finals:
Best finish:
Performance in last BJSC:
What do you think?
That's pretty much all in the existing stats thread (albeit not currently up to date).
I would definitely be interested in taking part in a 90s/00s spin off. A little while to wait yet but I'd quite like to see themed spin offs like Halloween & Christmas BJSC editions, would be interesting
We did a Christmas Special a few years ago, but I'll add them to the list to return once again if the calendar sync's with the holidays!
Songs that peaked at #41 in the UK Chart Or if you want a wider choice range, songs that just missed out on the UK Top 40 (#41-#50 peak)
I think that would throw up some inspired choices!
Thanks! Will add that to the list!
How about countries hosting their own sub contest in their countries thread?
So that people could vote for their favorite Kylienips track, or the ultimate Mdice track?
The mods could select a country that wants to participate and it could be something to do in between contests.
Voting would be voluntary of course.
Just a thought.
LESS THAN ONE MINUTE SPINOFF. soz for bombarding the wrong thread.
To follow Silas' recommendation, I'll put my post here:
got the perfect one for that, too!
Cool, I'll add Cian's, Chris', Yu's + Harve's suggestions to the list for discush.
HARVE NO i was gonna send said person for that!!
was hoping someone would try one of his classics out for bjsc tbh...
Suggestion:
Ban Ramrynia
Just in case it won't be lost:
I think we need a rule that UP songs shouldn't be entered! Maybe even to include the list of UP songs onto a BJSC thread "Songs of BJSC", just in different post.
If no one has suggested it already I think an instrumental spinoff would be fun.
Yep, I have that one added to the list already. If anybody has more suggestions, then please share! Everything suggested here is noted and will be discussed, so don't be shy. You can PM suggestions to us as well!
A UK artist only contest *.*
Oooh, nice one. Added!
Akcent?
Intros and/or Outros as another idea for a potential spin-off? (and yes this is me just trying AGAIN to send Tulisa~)
i was thinking all-time dance anthems, but that might be a bit too vague........
If you can sift through a list of entries and make a distinction between an all-time anthem and a dance track when you've got people who think their entry is an iconic anthem, then we'd have no problem at all adding that to our list.
I'd still love to do a 'worst song spin off' where you give 12 points to your least favourite song etc, 10 points to the second worst etc...it would be quite amusing although I get that it would be time consuming to do that just to listen to a load of crap songs, but some people would probably find something that they like
yeah i could do that! total dance fanatic.
could even make some guidelines like any major dance song from the last century (most of them are classics and are notable, good chart position or not) and then maybe ones from the top 10 / 20 for this century? obvs with exceptions to the rule. maybe nothing from this decade either?
Then I shall add Dance Anthems to our list!
Anyone else who is considering a sort of vague theme, take note of what Lew and I just discussed and if you find that you're happy, like Lew is, to make decisions on what side of the grey line things fall on then suggest away as the mods will stand by you. (Unless you've been a complete tit and excluded Delta Goodrem from BJSC Spin-Off: Australian Artists who've gone international. Then we'll have to pull our srs faces and demand you reinstate the goddess)
I quite like Rich's idea!
Why am I not even considered for Ghosty's replacement?!
What a bunch of BULL
lol bitches AS IF I WANTED THAT BYE
Then you probably want Lee imnotgoingtovetomycliquepeoplessongsialsoacceptcreditcards Wallace then.
i detect shade killing my vibe.
A thought just popped into my head
I'm not sure if it's already been done/suggested before but how about a one-off contest consisting of demo's/unreleased tracks?
So a demos/unreleased tracks spin-off? I'll add it to the list
Yeah basicly. I think alot of hidden gems could be discovered plus I got a lot of amazing demo's
I know it's been done but a Non-English songs spin off would be nice!
Ooooh, that spin-off was actually amazing, so I'll add it to the list!
Been trying to get my voting history up to date ready to do my first update since 2010 I know it sounds like a really long shot as it's definitely time consuming but to have a thread with each of the scoreboards on (maybe even attached to the Songs Of titles for each thread, just an idea idk) might be useful for looking back with ease?
Something we're already discussing.
We have far too many pinned threads as it is, consolidation of those is something we're working on, so it would be integrated into the Songs Of Thread. Personally I think the most practical way to do it would be to have a link to the scoreboard images below the title and above the winner so
BJSC CLV \\ Morepth Cove, Ashton
Link to final scoreboard
Link to semi 1 scoreboard
Link to semi 2 scoreboard.
Final Results
SF1 DNQs
SF2 DNQs
---
I would quite like to combine some of the data from the threads of Interest into Songs of as well by linking to the Voting and Results threads too.
Currently our plan is to see the rest of the year through as is and once TBO has passed us we're going to undertake a review. We've had a substantial moderator change this year and we feel it's the right time to go through everything from top to tail. So before 61 we'll have a new set of pinned threads that are more consolidated and we'll be making a few additions/alterations/removals to the Rules and Veto Frameworks. The Veto Framework itself was pulled together quite quickly and now that we've lived with it for a few months we've seen some things that we need to address in it.
I'd heavily encourage people to use this space to make suggestions about the Rules and Veto framework. I don't want to change them often but an annual review could allow us to better keep with trends and changing tastes.
Yeah, the way you suggested is what I was saying - definitely a less cluttered way of doing it. There a lot of pinned threads but a lot of them are quite necessary
Although I'm not really sure of the point nor relevance of a BJSC map, but each to their own.
Excuse me the BJSC map is the most important part of BJSC!!!
Possibly interesting suggestion for an addition to the stats thread - a category for most cumulative 12s/votes received? As there are obviously stats there already for cumulative points and the total votes and total 12s are usually tracked in individual contests as well.
0 veto points spinoff. NO room for cheapness whatsoever.
I'd be well up for hosting that just so us mods can have a good laugh at some countries who are determined to send the cheapest thing the framework will allow struggle like hell to send something that would get 0 points.
I am perfectly capable of sending inspired K-Pop entries without having to result to Girls' Generation/2NE1 all the time thank you.
Can I make a suggestion? How about recycling songs is aloud, along as it didn't make the final and it's more than 5 contests old?
Careful, Jsg, you may not know what you've walked into.
'So what's your entry this time?' 'Oh I'm sending Variation Of Birds, won't that be hilarious and completely original'
There are enough songs out there that we can comfortably not need repeats, even of flop DNQs years and years ago. It was sent, it was 'discovered', it flopped. Deal.
Besides, anyone who wasn't around for it will still know it when Reloaded finally gets around to that contest (still hoping that'll happen someday!)
what about a remix contest? (i know i've already suggested the dance one but yanno)
Oh I don't listen to remixes almost AT ALL. I'd have to sit that one out I am afraid (unless the Purity Ring remix of Applause is allowed which it won't be so BYE).
And EYES. It's YOU who doesn't know what he's walked into!
Feels like it's turning into a remix contest these days anyway. (obvz because of me and Chris starting the trend)
Maybe we'll do some kind of a spin-off in December when we don't have an actual contest? 0 veto points spin-off sounded great. Or mentioned novelty spin-off.
We do have plans for spin offs that should actually happen before the end of the year. We've had a few chaotic months so are just settling down and sorting through stuff before we start picking things up again
Not sure if this has already been mentioned but we should have a spin-off where people send 'funny' songs.
And also a spin-off where, in a twist, the loser is the winner as in people send songs they think are terrible then people vote for their least favourites.
And a dance classics spin-off would be fabbbb!
Persephonia are interested in hosting an edition of BJSC Reloaded at some point
The ideas will be added to our list when I remember where in the staff forum it is!
Ta for being our first volunteer Re:LOADED host Bray!
I'd quite like to have a go at this spin-off hosting thing considering I have a very low chance of getting to host one of the monthly BJSCs
Same here
Permanent ban on Pavel hosting plz.
Had Ashton DNQ'd, the final would not currently be being held in Eledan.
But we qualified, so YAY all round!
Is the new country registration thread being re-opened again any time soon? It seems to have been 'pending a new thread' for some time now.
I think maybe we should introduce...
Veto twice in one contest and banned.
Admirable that Lee of all people is suggesting this. I aggree but maybe push it to three times.
We should have a Spin-Off with all those vetoed entries...
I'm thinking of a spin-off when we all send the songs "normally" e.g. with veto framework etc. but THEN after the final list is confirmed, all the entries are randomly swapped with other countries.
We'll get all the same songs but from different countries. Could be fun and inspire someone to a different direction in the future.
Or a contest when the countries are revealed after the final results.
i'd hate that contest arrs - i think i send all sorts of stuff already but some people REALLY do send some awful stuff.
Sorry for the late replies to the below, I did semi acknowledge the first one but I want to give a full reply.
Thanks Tim!
For a spin-off how about everybody gets assigned a country at random and they have to send a song from that country i.e. I get assigned France so have to send a song by a French artist (not necessarily a French language song).
I take it this is where we sign up for the spinoff hosting? In wich case I kindly request I be added to the list (and I unkindly request you let me do my foreign language suggestion, I believe that in the wake of the semi thread it's especially relevant now!)
We used to do that on CHC and it was always fun. I got Iceland and Malta the two times it was done, the latter was surprisingly hard to find a good non-Eurovision related song from!
Thanks very much Lex and that's a superb suggestion Adam!
Will add you both to our list!
i agree phil! i'd love that suggestion to be pushed asap
one thing i would suggest is that when a song is vetoed, the point score is included alongside the targets it hit in the framework, with a small description of why (this information should already be available since you are discussing the entries and their targets anywho) to be sent out alongside the PM informing the person they have been vetoed. it means people can totally understand why the veto went forward, meaning there is less slanging matches in thread of 'omg WHY'
I think we used to do that for a little while but it didn't stop things from kicking off, but we have no problem trying it again if that's what people want.
I'd definately say that would be an improvement to the contest. That's the ony thing I could think of as feedback
It'll be posted when I'm finally happy with it.
In the meantime, we're hardly crying out for new members so another couple of weeks won't hurt anyone given that we are operating on a 'you can start participating but you must sign up formerly when the new thread opens' basis right now. The original first draft was done in late 2013 and we've altered and reviewed the resources that make it up. Hence the new rules (which I have recently reformatted, and slightly reworded) and veto guidelines.
To give you all an idea of what I am doing, this is what is left to be done:
u better WORK WORK [radio edit]!!!! thanks for ur contributions AGAIN x
Sounds great!
Vülkyria would like to suggest a schlager spin-off (because it would be fun and glorious!~) and to register for a chance to host any upcoming Spin-Off contest.
Shall add you to the list!
How about a spin off for cover songs? Also I'd like to put my name down for hosting a spin off!
Suggestion: Let me register.
I think I'll pass
Just having a look back through past threads and I'd love the Buzzjack Olympics to come back in some shape or form.
BJSC World Cup TBH *.
I have a few ideas of new 'events' that I'm going to run past the guys once I get back to civilisation, but I do remember discussing the Buzzjack Olympics before London 2012 (I think it was Ryan who PMd me about it?) but we decided against pushing it as it was pretty much a non-event because it wasn't interactive enough. I'd imagine it would be the same for a BJSC World Cup, but if a member is willing to take the time to run it themselves (as it's entirely decided by the host/random.org who wins each stage) then you're free to PM us with your idea/plan and we'll try to facilitate it as long as it doesn't majorly clash with other contests or events.
Haha yes it was Cal!
BJSC World Cup to add a handicap based on member's interest in football. Which means the likes of Utopia and Aquafina are the powerhouses and Unovia is basically San Marino.
I just had an idea, it may be a little too much hassle though, but I'll share it anyway.
I was thinking that we could open up a thread dedicated to the countries in the BJSC. Each country could each have one post where they can list as much information on their countries as they so wish (flag, population, language etc).
EXAMPLE:
Country: Terra di Campioni
Capital: Spill Thity
Population: 24,500,674
Language: Campionish
National Dish: Biscuits ()
Flag:
I know it's mainly cosmetic but I thought it might be a bit of fun for everyone.
Sorry hadn't noticed that! Never mind me
i was thinking what if we do a BEST FOOT FORWARD bjsc, where countries that have participated in X (say at least 10) amount of contests can submit one of their previous entries in a fight to the death battle? maybe an entry they thought would do better now, or one they just love and wish they could submit again? i think it would be a good way of doing the 'best of' cos everyone would be submitting their faves
I like it. Would make a good end of year thing for sure.
We can make least favourite winner poll, aka the thing that has been viral over the last few months on Buzzjack Two groups of 30, and as soon as we reach Top 15/20 in both, we combine the remaining songs and continue until we have a WINNA. [50 is the max number of songs allowed for the poll so yeah]
Although I am afraid people will just eliminate all the winners they know first and leave boring how-the-hell-did-it-win stuff like NOT A LOVE SONG or ALL MY LIFE (you read that right, that was Rontvia shade) for the Top 20.
a least favourite BJSC winner poll must happen!
two separate polls one for 1 to 35 and 36 to 70 or whatever
All My Life was not a shit winner by the way
Maybe it'd be better to do a 'least favourite 2014 top 5 hit' poll so all the songs will be relatively fresh in (most) people's memories ~
(this may or may not be an idea I was planning to do anyway)
A little suggestion here if that's ok. Basically it seems people don't know whether to post new country registrations in the registration thread or the BJSC world. This may be because of the subtitle on the registration thread but even so wouldn't it make sense to combine the two?
Basically, there is a spare post below the BJSC World maps in the BJSC World thread. Couldn't you move the BJSC World maps down to that second post, and then copy the Registration rules from the Registration thread into the first post in BJSC World? Then that thread alone could be used to house all registrations as well as immediately encourage them to choose a BJSC world map territory instead of getting Bré posting "remember to visit the BJSC World map thread" each time somebody registers in the other thread.
Then simply rename the topic "Join the BJSC World!" with the subtitle "register here and choose your territory" or something like that. I thought that'd make sense to streamline the process as well as cut down on the number of stickied topics.
Ah fabulous!
Im not quite sure if you do this but I was thinking someone (host) creating a playlist in YT to house all the songs for semis and finals instead of individual links, can still type all the songs and info but maybe adding a link to a YT playlist underneath or something This might help the people who are voting and can listen to the songs more easily
Not all songs are on youtube tho, so that might be a problem
Former.
When it happens I'll PM you to get you to post a 'blank' post in BJSC that I will then move into the new thread in the staff forum and copy in the latest version of the world map post.
That way you'll still have ownership of the map post that you can update as required.
Could the semi-finals and finals potentially be hosted live on plug.dj (since you can create playlists from youtube and soundcloud)?
A BJSC plug.dj room would be great actually, we could organise nights where we listen to the songs in the contest together, it would be literally like Eurovision night *.* (except with the results coming at a later date, obviously)
i suggested that last week tbh
would be a great idea.
can we PLEASE get 00's dance please ASAP
i know what i'd send and cal get ur hands OFF!
I was thinking could we use the Spin Off forum to host various rates e.g. BJSC Winners Rate, All [x country] Entries Rate?, it's about time rates made the BJSC forum and I'm sure people could get down with that alongside formal contests.
I've mentioned this to multiple people and they seem to think it's a great idea and it would be a brilliant amount of fun. It would be like a special BJSC where each country can send one song that they've sent to BJSC in the last 12-24 months with winners excluded.
I think it would be great fun and it would be such an unpredictable list being presented. We could end up with
Ashton: Tone Damli!
Aquafina: Lune- Leave The World Behind
Bignia - Katy Tiz - Red Cup
It would be a great amount of fun!
Sorry for the delayed responses guys! Wanted to wait until I had enough time to actually sit and think about everything before I responded.
Think this thread has brought some good ideas to light since it started.
#Justice4Ein
Can we please ban playing our future entries on plug.dj? Especially if it's http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=177492&pid=5056679&st=140&#entry5056679. On a good evening, I assume, you'll probably get 10+ actual BJSC participants and that is a bit much. I haven't been on plug.dj in like months. Is it really what it's turning into?! A pre-BJSC listening party... Has 'desperate' written ALL over it. What happened to the usual facebook, SKYPE ( we all know how you keep coming top 10 yu), PM helpses
So, basically, KILL IT WHILE IT'S STILL NEW AND NOT EVERYONE DECIDED TO DO IT
I have a suggestion. How about a spin off of 'what you would send for your 100th contest' if it was right now? Most people are off their anniversary and I am sure the track would change before then?
'I haven't been on plugdj in months'.
And it shows.
BJSC tracks really don't get many spins.
People can play what they like there anyway.
Why not ban playing them on Skype I stead? No? Just coming for Plugdj as you dinet like it. Ok.
How about a spin off where we all send out lowest peaking DNQ
I would send Bear Hug and win.
i suggest ramrynia send a track that picks up no veto points
I'm sure I've managed that before though! EVVY was veto pointless surely
A SERIOUS SUGGESTION - i would love to do a 'someone elses entry' contest where we get to pick any entry from another country (maybe to limit it it can only be from contests we've participated in?) to represent us, to show ones that we've loved over the last few years. i think because we all have weird faves it would come up with some REALLY interesting combinations / results. also to make it fair i think it should exclude top 5s and also only be from the era of the veto.
So we'd basically have a Best of Ramrynia contest!
But yes, that's a good idea!
i think everyone knows i'd probably just send Frequency & Soulcircuit
Dibs on As Animals (I'm the only person who stans that tho so not like I'd even need dibs oop)
since my last suggestion was painfully ignored i'm gonna make another one.
Can we abolish the switching between voting systems please? If we had 50 songs in the final, fair play, but with 40 it's really not worth it. Either move it up in the semifinals or down in the final really. Does ANY contest EVER have different voting systems? It's bordering on UNETHICAL tbh
I don't know if this has been suggested before, but with so many entries, e.g. 70. Would it not be better to have 3 semi finals, 2x23 and 1x24 or something similar, with between 10-12 going through from each so we have a final of 30-36?
The wrong semi curse. I think it's been covered before. With 3 Semifinals there's a far bigger chance of you not qualifying due to being put into 'wrong' semi.
I wouldn't mind changing it to the 18 point system in the semis, after all 34 songs is not much less than 40/41. Might make the results from the semi a bit more indicative of the final results as well.
(would need to implement this change pretty quickly if it's going to happen tho)
To repeat what was said about a fortnight ago at the end of the last contest: We will not be making any changes to voting systems for a couple of months to allow people to get used to this one. Then we will review, everyone will have their chance to have their say, and then we will go from there.
3 semis gets a huge NO from me.
I would like to see the 18 point system in the semi finals as well though, there's 35 entries in the semis now that's not much of a difference from the 41 that are in the final.
The maths bit:
10/35 = 28.6% ;; 15/35 = 42.9%
10/41 = 24.4% ;; 15/41 = 36.6%
which in short means the percentage difference of songs you vote for from semi to final is less if both rounds use the same voting system, which proves bré's point. plus it would also be less confusing for newer members.
3 semis (wrong semi syndrome all over again)
18 voting in semis YES I would very much like to dish out points to over a third of the contestants! (but maybe not 15 when there are fewer contestants)
This is probably been suggested before, or something similar has been but I'm going to make this post anyway in the hope it hasn't
What if we had themed spin-offs, like one contest would be rock themed whilst the next could be power ballads etc? Maybe even if the format was the same as the usual BJSC one where there are two semis, one semi could consist of one theme whilst the other's a contrasting one or even having four heats like BJFest, each being a different theme so there is still diversity. It would be interesting to say the least and force people to venture out of the comfort zone of their usual genre, there's nothing to say the theme has to be genre based either, it could be anything from countries to lyrics, there's a lot of possibilities
I like that idea, would be interesting to see how people respond to something a bit different for them!
I'd like Bre's parade thing to occur every single contest. It was a nice way to introduce the songs sent, and plus, think of all the reactions!
omg did i pioneer ha
3 Semi's is not something I particularly wish to happen. Much prefer the current 2 semi system. Not going to say never because the contest is continually growing.
We do already run themed spin-off's (90's dance, foreign language etc) but having more than one theme isn't something we've had yet. I see no reason why we couldn't though.
What would you send to your 100th contest & someone else's entry are both good by me.
The contest is so large that the only mandatory part of the contest will remain Confirmation/Semi's/Final. MP3's/Recaps/Artists Parade et al all remain voluntary as some have more available time than others.
Can BJFest Rejects become a thing like in the actual contest?
Methinks the flops would need a chance to gain some glory/redemption/et al
That's why Andra Chansen exists.
BJFEST is lifted in it's entirety from Melodifestivalen. It's a winner take all deal and the rejects careers go on life support.
my suggestion is 2 give silas some praise after being a rly good mod for bjsc recently after obviously some shaky situations, not just in terms of timing but in terms of running the show so i feel to counteract all the past shite he's had have a cookie (y)
This suggestion I whole heartedly endorse just as long as the praise is dished out to my co-mods too. There is no I in team!
Indeed Silas...
And praise to Cal, Yu and Jack for being rly good mods when Silas has been shit.
Question: So with this contest, there's already been an established limit to how many contestants will allow the 18-point scale as opposed to the 12? I think I remember Bre saying something about it during confirmations. #Late
60+ = 18 point system
Awesome, thanks!
The 1BF points system (18pts system) comes into play at two points currently:
40 or less participants - 18pts System & One Big Final. (Although this quickly turns into the ESC system & 1BF)
60 or more participants - 18pts System & Expanded Final.
This will all be firmed up later this month.
I would like to suggest a 'Your Best Of Rejects' spin off where we enter our favourite DNQ?
I'd be all for that.
Spin-off DNQ's count, right?
Yesss, another chance for me to try and cram either 'Sugarbread' or 'Babs Seed' down people's throats
I already sent a DNQ to the original YBO though!! Ah well, happy to give a second one another chance if this spinoff happens.
Shotgun coming for ha revenge
DNQs contest would be great, I really am spoilt for choice lmao. I'll probably avoid my DNQs that did well in TBO Rejects so I can give another one the chance to shine. Although that still leaves quite a few gems
Another chance to send one of my many glorious flops, I'm all for that!
I also sent a DNQ to the original YBO
I'd say next week might be a good time.
So I just had an idea for a spinoff just now. But it isn't a song contest but rather a video clip contest. We could send video clips from YouTube and rate each other on how good or funny they are. And the only veto I think would be based on millions of views, probably 10 or something. Anyone else interested?
As it is not even remotely related to BJSC's remit, that cannot take place within this forum.
Snalla Snalla coming to slay this
Silas did you get my PM
Yes and it's impossible to move posts from the end of the thread to the start of the thread. The Invision+ system, nor any other forum system, does not allow it as threads are built upon date/time information not moderators dragging and dropping post order as they please.
With the upcoming veto framework modification as mentioned in the confirmations thread, I thought I'd just pop this in here. I personally think it'd be good to see the Capital FM playlist treated the same as the Radio 1 playlist, both reach really wide audiences and are both essential in terms of making hits, so if a song appears on Capital's playlist, it's got a strong chance of becoming a future hit (if not guaranteed). Case in point: the Bob Sinclar song that's been vetoed this month features on the playlist but of course got 0 points for it as it's not on the framework (I mean it got vetoed anyway but not every Capital-playlisted song will have international chart positions or a well-known sample to bring it to veto discussion). Is this something that could maybe be considered?
Great suggestion! Thanks! Capital FM have been growing in reach these past few years so they have become something worth considering for sure
Being in the Spotify Global chart should count for something too, or otherwise we'll see more entries like 'The Ocean' sail through only to become UK hits a few months later.
Yes that one is top of our list of changes to make
this isn't a personal attack AT ALL before anybody comes at me however i've been feeling for quite some time that there is a gap between the mods and the members of bjsc. to be honest yes this is a problem for me with some of the other mods more than others. lew frequents plug quite a lot and i see him more actively taking a role and due to that as a participant i find him a lot more approachable about bjsc stuff, however i feel like i never see yu and jahq getting involved publicly at all??? of course i don't know how much work they put behind the scenes and i'm not trying to accuse them of not doing anything in the slightest i'm just saying as a participant this is how i feel, and imo the mods should be people who really do get stuck in and involved publicly. all the different dramas etc over the last couple months has been kinda exhausting and i feel a lot more could've been done to prevent it, i feel like a lot more transparency is needed to keep this a fun community game. i like how in the spin offs more people get involved with the process and i think this is a good step in providing more of a link between the mods and the people, could i maybe suggest the mods find more way to incorporate this into the main contest? these kind of mods vs the whole of buzzjack disputes can't really be fun for anybody surely??
i'm a big believer in transparency (i work in an environment where it's necessary) so i think that's a good criticism. i'm glad you feel that you can approach me because i am trying - i think the other mods are just as approachable in spirit but not as active as posters which maybe causes a disconnect - naturally we can't force the mods to post or integrate more (they have their own lives to lead) but i'm sure i speak on behalf of them that if there was any queries or questions they'd be happy to field them for you.
yes i do realise that real life is always more important (i rlly do want to reiterate the fact this is not a personal attack) and hopefully after all of this has blown over maybe it could be encouraged for people to post more of what they're really feeling in threads like this so there could be more discussion between the mods andd ppl?? maybe that way we could avoid drama too
I'm used to the criticisms I get in which I do absolutely nothing so it doesn't shock me at all if anyone feels that way anymore. I completely agree that everything should be more transparent as lew have said, but I believe that the blame lies not so much in that we don't contribute publicly but more so that other members integrate with other sections of associated with this site either on or off, thus are seen as more approachable. Another reason is that both Jack and myself at times work and if there's an issue, by the time we have free time to even read as to what it is our other co-moderators have already responded. You simply do not need to have all moderators answering back the same response in regards to one issue imo.
just to be clear both jahq and yu do help out month on month but because they don't really spend a lot of time on buzzjack usually when they're online it's one of the only things they'll do, doesn't mean it isn't being done tho!!! #shoutout2magirls
I'm going to admit the past 2-3 months I haven't contributed as much as what I'd like to due to a range of factors being final year university in addition to work, followed by a vacation/visit to a family relative and then another family issue which have arouse suddenly. This isn't to say I don't contribute actively previously at all!
i am appreciating these responses but yeah to repeat my point earlier it's not so much that i don't believe some mods aren't doing anything, in an ideal world it just would be nice for it to be more evident. for that tho i don't really have any suggestions other than maybe letting the host be involved in the veto process so more people can see what goes on??? :')
edit: and maybe half if this is coming for the fact i'm relatively new to bjsc still (i think i'm approaching my 10th contest??? ) but i've said what i have to say now and hopefully this can be rectified fo the future :')
I actually don't think much needs to be done in regards to actual playing of entries on Plug, but maybe some all-round more secrecy if you want to tighten the rules in this regard, and have people only allowed to consult a certain number of people (though this would be difficult to enforce and would prejudice those on Plug, rabb.it etc vs. those who use PM). You could also ask people not to talk about 'potenshes' so obviously when playing them, etc, but this is a fun competition and I think being too strict about it could potentially make us lose sight of that.
Meanwhile, in regards to the current situation, in order to preserve the integrity of the veto system it is important not to foster an 'us and them' mentality, whether intentional or not. Therefore, I would recommend entries like Tim's, etc, to be allowed through, after having drawn attention to the point the mods now wish to underline; and from there, have this rule enforced more stringently following an update of the Rules and a PSA. I think this will help foster better feeling and less animosity between people and strengthen the integrity of the system; all the rules will be there in black and white, with suspension/ vetoes etc happening retrospective to their underlining.
Just me 2cence!
see I didn't even know these main designated tasks were a thing
I know what you mean Lotti and the word has been thrown back at us quite a lot today, sometimes with quite a lot of hostility. There is a lot of improvement to be made by us as a team, and we will keep working on it. I think that we have got better, for example the research published in full for every track that we veto. It's not something that has always been done.
I think there are a lot of things we can learn from with the spin-offs, but the size difference means it's not as easy for everything to translate and the much stricter veto process also runs into some problems.
I really want to bridge this gap, because I too have felt it, and really work together to build our community.
Another small thing that has on my mind, how about a veto thread? Where the vetoed tracks are stalled so they wont be entered like 3 times in a row?
That is a good suggestion Tim and I think we have discussed this amongst ourselves before, so watch the space as such thread might exist in the future!
We have a thread in the mod forum, not sure if it's still missing a chunk or not, that goes all the way back to the first vetoed song.
Once we complete it we can certainly duplicate it in here.
Oh yes, I'd love to see a list of vetoed entries and the points they got for the reasons they got vetoed for
does BJSC use a template for compiling votes? Or is it done by the host at their discretion?
The discretion of the host
If anyone wants it I do have a 100 entry template which automates a lot of the boring bits.
This isn't that important but I've been thinking about it and thought it was worth a shot asking here haha. Am I correct in thinking that generally, people aren't allowed to change their votes after they have already sent them, unless they made a scoring error, for instance skipping a 3-pointer or whatever (and I'm aware that even in situations like that, the host can just move the songs down a place or whatnot)? I remember in like 2008, when I was first starting out in the contest, I asked the host if I could change votes cos I forgot to vote for one track, and I was allowed to re-send. Maybe it was different back then but I'm not sure if there is any guideline in place about it?
I know that it's the person's own fault, and allowing people to change votes even just once might make things messier for the host but let's say if someone genuinely forgets about one song...? I've seen this happen to people. And to speak for myself, in Andra Chansen there is one song that I just kinda brushed over in my voting process that, very soon after voting, became a major contender to be in my top 3! Again, not that important but just thought I'd at least ask.
^ me giving myself therapy in my own mind, coming up to the anniversary of me asking that question lmao
Is there a BJSC this month?
Yep, it starts back up again every January.
I’m just wondering if we’re gonna get a Rejects announcement soon
BJSC CXI (111) will start after the TBO final has completed
Rejects XI will be here with us very soon.
Is it worth trialling a 6 day confirmation window (ex Sun - Fri/whenever it's planned) with vetoes announced and reconfirmed on the Saturday/Sunday morning with semi's taking place Sunday night? (and if they've not reconfirmed by Sun Morning at latest then they're not in the contest?)
(Kinda going off on Klum's point and it's an idea I've had for a while)
Yo yo!
What are y'all's thoughts on us having a pinned thread of all winners?
e.g. Country Name | Artist | Track | Link
(maybe points number &/ number of entrants that contest if anyone fancied collating that info)
I was just thinking this would be interesting to be able to track what genres were popular over time.
It’s not current, but this is already in the first post of the Stats Thread
I don't have the links immediately to hand but here's an up to date list with all the other things you mentioned x
(as per Phil's post the list of winners is a thing that already existed in the stats thread and will once again exist in an updated form when the mythical stats thread update arrives)
