Thanks for the welcome both of you! at the Lotunian flag getting recognition, took me so long time to edit in. I am a bit unsure if I am going to stand out this time genre wise, my entry is however partly in sámi, so maybe that will help me stand out a bit (was originally going to send RAYE with "Shhh", but it had apparently already won once )
Yeah, Berlin (with Belinda Carlisle and Pimpinela) really stood out to me in the 80s edition

Japan vs. South Korea: Yasuharu Takanashi - Despair
About Yasuharu Takanashi and "Despair" Born April 13, 1963 (age 54) Yasuharu Takanashi is a Japanese composer for both video games and anime series. He has composed for Hell Girl, Sailor Moon Crystal and of course, Naruto Shippuden, which "Despair" is taken from. "Despair" is also known in the fandom as Sasori's theme song. Personally, I think it fits. Sasori had one of the saddest backgrounds in Naruto Shippuden, at least when it comes to the antagonists of the series (somehow they managed to give some of the protagonists even sadder backgrounds). It is crazy how much loneliness, despair, and absence of love changed his character physically and mentally, which I think the song manages to express in heartbreaking way. Even though it might be a bit on the short side, it still is a little piece of art.

BJSC 97: Gery-Nikol - I'm The Queen
Don't you know, I'm the queen, да, да, да, да!
So, I guess this song might be seen as a bit of a trainwreck Well, Gery-Nikol (currently 18 years old) rose to fame in 2014 when she as part of the group Sweet 16 participated in the Bulgarian version of X Factor. After her time on X Factor she quickly began pursuing a solo career. She has five singles under her belt, with one of them peaking at #1 on the Bulgarian chart. "I'm The Queen" is her third single and is one of two songs that also has an English version.

Andre Chansen: Linnea Dale - A Room In A City [Tinnmark]
Love me less, then I'll love you more Hear the noise from the city It's a dance that we danced before In a room in a city by the sea
Decisive moment all in black and white See your reflection in the ambient light Black and white, you and me In a room in a city by the sea
This month Lotunia is taking part in two contests. One of them is Andra Chansen, which is a contest that gives a second chance to a song that has been submitted before. The song I chose is named "A Room In A City" by Linnea Dale which was entered by Tinnmark in 2013… in other words long before I began participating . Linnea is most known for being one of the vocalists in the Norwegian group Donkeyboy, she has released two albums (the song is taken from her second album Good Goodbyes) and one EP as a solo artist.
Originally, I was going to enter this song last autumn until I discovered that it already had been sent and not qualified in its contest several years before. Either way, the song is a lovely piece of Scandinavian pop with a beautiful melody. I hope that this time around Linnea Dale might be able gain some new fans and get a good placing, hopefully .

Worldvision III: Kerli - Feral Hearts
The whole world trying, to tame the spark But we've got fire, burning bright, hidden Catch the shimmer of showering stars The sky gets dimmer, and your light shows
Feral hearts, in the night Loving like we've been kept captive Free to light Feral hearts, come alive Loving like we've been kept captive
For my first try in worldvision I got Estonia, a country that I did not know that much about when it comes to their music scene. To be honest I only knew some artists through Eurovision and Eesti Laul. While I did find some quite interesting artists that are less known then Kerli I decided to send the most famous one in this spin-off simply because I have no idea if she would be vetoed in the main contest or not. The other artists that I considered for this spin-off might or might not be sent to the main contest in the future.

BJSC 101: Hoàng Thùy Linh - Bánh Trôi Nước
Rắn nát mặc dầu tay kẻ nặn (Whatever way hands may shape me)
This time Lotunia has decided to go for a Vietnamese artist named Hoàng Thùy Linh with the song "Bánh Trôi Nước". Hoàng Thùy Linh bases the song on the poem "Bánh Trôi Nước" by Ho Xuan Huong. The poem only has 4 sentences and 28 words. The title of the poem and song, 'Bánh Trôi Nước', is the name of a sweet cake that the poet used as a metaphor to describe the life of women in her time. Although they might face hardship and inequalities, they always stay faithful to their family and friends.
Posted by: Bré 26th January 2018, 12:29 AM
Your BJSC 101 entry is your best to date for me sounds very ~mystic~. Really hope it can get you back into the final.
Posted by: Jade 29th January 2018, 12:19 AM
Okay I am obsessed with 'Bánh Trôi Nước'. Once it began I thought "ooh... the vibes of this are nice" but then it was taken to a whole other level with that final minute *.* a masterclass in building. <3 I will riot if this doesn't qualify x buuut surely it should have enough big fans in the semi to make it through. So glad I'm in your semi anyway!

Huge thanks to everyone that has voted for Lotunia the two last contests! We have managed to land ourselves in the top twenty three times in a row , something that I honestly thought would be impossible for a little country like Lotunia. This means that we have qualified six out of nine tries (q-q-q-dnq-dnq-dnq-q-q-q,)… I sense a pattern and looking at our qualification history we are duo a dnq next month Anyway, I have not fully decided on what to enter yet, I think I might put out some of my potentials? idk.
Posted by: Bré 4th April 2018, 08:40 PM

90s vs. 00s: Secret Garden - Windancer
For the 90s vs. 00s Lotunia is going to be representing the 90s with the Norwegian/Irish duo Secret Garden. The song that I have chosen is called "Windancer" and it is a song with a Celtic sound~ Secret Garden are probably best known in Norway for representing Norway in Eurovision in 1995, and winning with the eternally beautiful "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fd3a189vcVc". The song "Windancer" is to me very soothing and I hope that at least some people will appreciate the (re)discovery.
~~
BJSC 104: TAEMIN - MOVE
So, this is our first male act since Crywolf~ It is also our first Korean act, and I do have plans to send a few more Korean acts before this year ends... Anyway, TAEMIN has been a potential entrant since BJSC 100. The only reason why I did not send him that time was that I realized that since it was a special occasion it would be more fitting to send someone from my own country. Which lead me to entering Eva Weel Skram. Result wise it did not end well, so this time around my goal is to avenge poor Eva by getting a better position~
So, this was a pleasant surprise. I never thought Secret Garden would be the act that would get me a respectable placing in a Spin-Off, if anything I thought it would go the same way as in the Japan vs. South Korea Spin-Off. Anyway, thanks to everyone that that voted for "Windancer" , especially Terra Avium for giving us our second 18-pointer ever in a Spin-Off!

I barely managed to enter on time, only to forget I actually entered and ended up voting late again . Anyway, it has been a year since I debuted with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDICRc8Etzs song, so I felt that it was time to send something that had a small connection to that song. "Snölejoninna" by Sofia Jannok is the second song that I have sent that is in Swedish this year, and the first song since https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDICRc8Etzs that is partly in Sámi. Not really expecting to qualify, but hopefully some people found this song enjoyable
Posted by: Bré 21st May 2018, 06:28 PM
Glad that you did decide to enter again after all because this is another fab entry, such an oddball song but in a good way <3 fingers crossed for it to make it through.

Posted by: NocheLuna 21st May 2018, 08:47 PM
aww, glad you both liked the song!
~
For the second time in a row Lotunia did not qualify for the final. Which is fine, since this means that I can send something that I have been dying to send forever. Prepere yourselves for a song partially in Quechua and partially in Spanish (Yeah, I'm going to keep the q-q-q-dnq-dnq-dnq-q-q-q-dnq-dnq-dnq pattern With my next song )

This is how it ends, never meant to hurt you I'm a pretty mess and I don't deserve you I ran out of time and second chances Sorry couldn't build your white picket fences
'Cause every time I see you, it's like all I am is see-through We were everything I know it, don't wanna miss it, record it I adore you , I adore you
The falling out was easy, but I hate that you don't need me And it gets so hard to speak, every time you get to me 'Cause I adore you, I adore you

BJSC 106: Magaly Solier - ¿Porque Me Miras Así?
Cuando te canto yo así, mírame, mírate cómo estás Perdido en el horizonte, perdido con tu mirar
This month Lotunia is being represented by an artist from my birth country Perú . The song "¿Porque Me Miras Así?" is sung partially in Spanish and Quechua by Magaly Solier. The song is the first song that I have sent that is in Spanish, something that surprised me a bit~
Posted by: Bré 15th July 2018, 10:33 PM
I'm intrigued as to how you went from living in Peru to Norway! Doesn't seem like a very obvious move
This is an interesting song, actually sounds almost like something that could be in a Bollywood film despite obviously being from a completely different continent. I expect you'll be right about it being another DNQ but stranger things have happened eh ~
Posted by: NocheLuna 16th July 2018, 06:10 PM
^ yay, i'm glad you like the song! I was not entirely sure if this was going to appeal to anyone at all ~ As for Perú and Norway, that is somewhat a long story and not really all that interesting To make it short: I'm adopted. As for qualifying… not really expecting to qualify, but it would be a nice surprise I guess? I just don't want to end 20th one more time

BJSC 107: Dan Balan ft. Matteo - Allegro Ventigo
Ali sento, ma n'usted Cal in amar, ir canto meu Sera fina bella che canto meu Ci vorra alto tu ribel Dei karamel in nos museo
The song is sung in a mix of some romance languages with a few words which actually make no sense at all~ Anyway, Dan Balan is a Moldovan singer and is most known as one of the singers behind O-Zone's song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnopHCL1Jk8.

Re-Invention II: BTS - Fake Love (Rocking Vibe Mix)
For you, I could pretend like I was happy when I was sad For you, I could pretend like I was strong when I was hurt I wish love was perfect as love itself I wish all my weaknesses could be hidden I grew a flower that can’t be bloomed in a dream that can’t come true
I'm still kinda shocked by the result tbh

انت على بالي ياحبيبي لا لا تنساني لا لا لا
Contigo me quiero perder, Dime cómo hago para hacerte entender No sé lo que tengo Si me llamas vengo
Arabic + English + Spanish = Yahabibi
Not much is known about Widy. The only thing I have managed to find out is that her real name is Wedad Cura, and that she is half Colombian and half Lebanese~

BJSC 109: Laibach - Vor Sonnen-Aufgang
Du willst mich los sein Schon kommt die morgendämmerung Du bist meine freiheit Oh himmel über mir
For this contest I have decided to enter the Slovenian group Laibach with the song Vor Sonnen-Aufgang. Which translates to "Before Sunrise", one of their less controversial songs... I think. Laibach has been around for awhile and most of their work is very ambigious. There has been a lot of controversy surrendering their group, lyrics and activities. They have even visited North Korea, so yeah ~ A very interesting group

Your Best Of: Ágy - Arvedávgi
Her color is dark grey "This is who I am", she says "I've had it all, Built up a wall - for protection. Colors are hard to find I've almost given up This is my one last call to the sky"
Ágy is the artist I have chosen for the Your Best Of Spin-Off! She brought Lotunia to our first final on our first try. In the end she archieved 17th place, which was our best position for a long time. I genuinely think this is the best I have sent to the maincontest and I will most likely never be able to top this tbh. Very excited to see how this will fare against the other entrants!
Posted by: Theresa Bré 16th October 2018, 11:19 PM
I was wondering if you were actually aware of Laibach's history when you confirmed this!! Safe to say though this is not what I was expecting from them, absolutely beautiful song
Posted by: NocheLuna 18th October 2018, 05:33 PM
^ Yeah, I usually check for info on the artists I send, needless to say this group has far more controversies surrendering them than most of my former entrants. The first song I heard by them was "Eurovision", which is quite different from "Vor Sonnen-Aufgang".
I'm glad you like this song tho! Just a pity that we are in different semi finals

BJSC 110: Daoko - Haikei-Goodbye-Sayonara
Feeling like I'll break, But I never do Feeling like I'll overflow, But I never even get close I'm such a fool I'll never amount to much of anything
They're just magic words, nothing more It'd be foolish to think you're gonna save me They're just magic words, nothing more But that's what I was relying on
Dear, Goodbye farewell I killed who I was until yesterday Dear, Goodbye farewell A new morning will arrive for me
For the last contest of this year I've decided to enter the Japanese artist Daoko with the song "Haikei-Goodbye-Sayonara" ~ I don't really know what to expect, but hopefully some people find this enjoyable
Posted by: Iz~ 26th November 2018, 05:31 AM
I've been enjoying Daoko a lot recently. Especially that really high-viewed song for the Fireworks film. This is also really lovely, I'm really pleased to find something else great from her! Good stuff.

BJSC 111: Anna von Hausswolff - The Mysterious Vanishing of Electra
You search through the forest and the bottomless sea And you cry Push the trees, push the sky, push the air aside
You look at their faces and their meaningless loss And you cry Who is she, who is she, who is she to say goodbye
After sending a string of twelve songs in foreign languages - with a few English words here and there - we (finally?) send a song fully in English. "The Mysterious Vanishing of Electra" is sung by the Swedish artist Anna von Hausswolff who began her career in 2010 I think. The song itself is needless to say something of an experience and is nothing like something I have sent before to this contest ~

BJSC 112: Pillar Point - Dove
All the songs that I could sing To show you that I feel this Would they change a thing? No matter which way this wind blows You know I'm coming home
It's no road that I'd run without a curve So baby would you come in close at the turn And let a different love song pass your lips Or we might suffer shipwreck with the ship
Without love You're just a stupefied dove
We are going american this time with the band Pillar Point and their song "Dove". The music video was filmed in in the capital of Colombia, Bogotá. The dancer in the video is named Kia LaBeija the current mother of the house of LaBeija which is based in New York.
This is what she had to say about her dancing in the music video:
QUOTE
BHV: In the video, did you have a routine, or were you freestylin’?
Kia: Everything in Dove was freestyle. There was no choreography, just improvised moves. If you can really vogue, you can vogue to anything – not thinking about choreography, just about interpreting the music, telling your story, and dancing with your heart. A lot of people can take voguing classes and get the moves down, but many of them can’t actually vogue. Class is meant to teach you the elements, the outline, but YOU have to write the essay, or else you are plagiarizing.

We are in noir There’s nothing more with you We are in noir Now let go of me
BJSC 114: Merk & Kremont - Sad Story (Out Of Luck)
And now he's locked away 21 years of age How many lives will go to waste? As far as graves Until I see some f***ing change Oh, and I don't even know how We continue to Fight one another now...
Now he don't talk too much, talk too much He's probably given up, given up I think he's had enough, had enough Cause he ran out of luck, out of luck
… And we got vetoed for the second time in a row
Anyway our entry for this edition, replacing Sunmi, is the Italian DJ and producer duo Merk & Kremont and a vocalist named Ady Suleiman.

BJSC 115: Emma Blackery - Third Eye
Can't believe that I was so blind I won't have you messing with my mind 'Cause I'm looking at you with my third eye, my third eye And you think that you're invincible But you're not the one who's in control 'Cause you don't know what the future holds You'll be out in the cold
And so you twist, insist, and turn it around And this is it, you're like a machine always on and on, repeating So what do you want from me? And tell me how can you break my trust if you never had it? But you'll do what you must, becomin' a habit And on and on repeating So what do you want from me, what do you want from me?
I didn't get vetoed this time (yay) This is a bop From her album Villains Couldn't chose between this and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXBqzk2-fKk So, random.org made that choice for me (yay) I'm tired.

In other news, Lotunia has had their most successful year until now. We have somehow managed to qualify for every single final, some being more surprising then others - like Anna von Hausswolff, Hawa Boussim, Hishigdalai and Pillar Point. Of course, this can all change with one of the three songs I have lined up for the rest of the year ~

Dans la sauce! Dans la sauce! Le piment dans la sauce. Les condiments dans la sauce Le plantain dans la sauce
Result: 13/34 (115 points)
Completely forgot about this when I wrote about BJSC 117 . So, for this edition of Worldvision I got Cameroon, which was very fun since I already had an artist that I wanted to send to the regular contest from that country. Reniss is one of the artists that I discovered when visited Kenya earlier this year, and she will most likely not be the last one that finds her way to BJSC . The song "La Sauce" is sung in French and Pidgin, and was widely considered to be the unoffical anthem for the Cameroonian football team the 2017 AFCON.

BJSC 119: NCT U - Yestoday
Shoved and pushed around Filled with all these empty moments Not feeling anymore now In the midst of an abyss I’m sorry for yesterday
Broken heart, even if I try to let you go The story was carved deep inside my heart This short dream, past memories The moments that won’t ever be forgotten My precious yesterday Tomorrow then yesterday Sorry that I walked away Tomorrow then yesterday My precious yesterday
A song with lyrics penned by two of the members, Taeyong (the first rapper) and Mark (the second rapper). Joined by Lucas (the last rapper) and Doyoung (the vocalist). A reflection on their memories from before they joined the idol-industry, past regrets, youth, and moving foward. Honestly, my favorite entry this year, only beaten by "The Other Promise".

BJSC 121: Nuages - Dreams
If you awaken from this illusion And you understand that black implies white Self implies other, life implies death You can feel yourself Not as a stranger in the world Not as something here on probation Not as something that has arrived here by fluke But you can begin to feel your own existence as absolutely fundamental
This is probably going to be a bit to monotonous for someone, but I just find this so relaxing? There is something very soothing about this - and this type of genre is rarely my thing. Anyway, this has been sitting on my to-send list for far too long, and starting the new year with "Dreams" feels right. Hope some of you enjoy the (re)discovery!

Thrilled with third for Marcela Morelo! thanks for all the points. I have a few other songs by her that I like, so she might make an appearance in the main contest at some point in the future.

BJSC 126: Masaru Yokoyama - Uso To Honto
"What did you have in your heart?" "I had you"
So, the confirmation period has been a little bit of a ride. Our first and second choice had already been vetoed. Which brought us to Masaru Yokoyama's "Uso To Honto" ("Lie & Truth"). This violin-piano piece is a little bit under 3 minutes, and has been taken from the anime Your Lie In April, a story that follows two young musicians. Quite honestly I think this is one of my three favorites this year that I have sent to the main conest, and it will probably remain so by the end of the year. Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy the discovery!

BJSC 127: Sulli - Dorothy
It didn't mean anything I held onto hope At the edge of my imagination Buried in the world The air is empty
Sulli (Choi Jinri), former member of the group f(x). Released what was for me one of the best EP’s last year. Somehow “Dorothy” became one of my most played songs that year, and I think the reason for that is that the song brought out a sense of peace and serenity that I sorely needed at the time. I won't go into much detail about that here, but let's just say that I was at a bad place mentally duo to certain things that happened in my real life. While her death was sad, and it left many people in grief (and it still hurts), I can't help but hope that she has found eternal peace. Wherever she is, I hope she is happy. Please, take a listen and enjoy.

This is a beautiful song, one of the few strong highlights that I'm sad I can't support from the other semi - I'd not heard any of her solo work before, tragic that we won't hear any more music from her when this song shows such clear potential for her to have been one of the most standout names in the genre. </3

Yay, i'm glad you enjoyed the song Bré! Yeah, she definitly had potential to be a great artist, it saddens me that we don't have more, but at least there are a few songs out there by her. (Not 100% sure about qualifying, gonna have to check that now ~)

I know it’s not right But I still come looking for you I know that this isn’t meant to be But I don’t want to give you up Now you wanna play me You have everything that I want You are perfectly built A cold artificial love
Live Version
Well. Here we go again. Another K-pop entry from me. Not cheaper then BTS tho, there is that I guess!

Halloween III: Akira Yamaoka - Betrayal
"I was weak. That's why I needed you Needed someone to punish me for my sins But that's all over now, I know the truth Now it's time to end this" - James Sunderland
Result: 31/36 (60 points)
Went for an instrumental that features in one of the most famous https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DBrHKVWkJs from the Silent Hill series. Actually did better than I thought it would do, so very happy about that.
~~~
Veto: Coy - Promises
I'm on a highway pushing limits, but ironically The thought of what I did to you is catching up on me I made the one you loved into your biggest enemy Said I'm never gonna, never gonna leave you
So, i got vetoed. A little bit sad, but I can't really disagree since it got confirmed 4 times earlier this year
BJSC 130: Stars - Hold On When You Get Love And Let Go When You Give It
It's a pretty melody It might help you through the night time But it doesn't make it easy To leave the party at the right time
If I'm frightened, if I'm high It's my weakness please forgive it At least I hold on when I get love, And I let go when I give it
And here is our actual entry! Canadian band Stars with a cute little uplifting song
… I don’t think I’ve ever done one of these? Anyway, as we all know 2020 has been a year full of uncertainty. For myself it has been a reassurance to have this contest happen more or less every month. So, yeah, thanks for all the (re)discoveries. The songs featured on this list are those that have had some lasting impact - meaning that they are the ones that stayed with me after they were entered or grew on me post-contest. I don't wanna talk about it You frown as if you're annoyed Everything you do is half-hearted You just argue that you've done nothing wrong You say you'll do better next time But there is no next time Before this chance becomes your last If you still don't come to your senses I'll kick you to the curb
BJSC 132: Hitomi Shimatani - Destiny (Flower Of The Sun)
More than a thousand "I love you's" I want you to be here Because no one could ever replace you Your smile will be the light leading me to tomorrow And towards the sun in the sky
Performance Version
Okay, so I fell for this song back in 2017, I think? Anyway, I'm a sucker for songs that have a "epic" sound and the string intstruments really bring forward that in this song I think. Hitomi Shimatani is a japanese artist, and has been working as an artist for awhile. The song "Destiny (Flower Of The Sun)" was first released back in 2006, and was used as the opening theme for Black Jack 21.
BJSC 134: Eluera - Moderation
I don't think I do too well Well with moderation, well with moderation I try to control myself But I lack the patience, can't seem to slow the pacing The way I self-sabotage, I got it down to an art I should hold back, but where's the fun in that? I don't think I do too well Well with moderation
Feels like a decade since i've sent a pure pop song. So yeah, here is Aussie artist Eluera with "Moderation"
BJSC 135: Akira Yamaoka - Not Tomorrow
"I get it now, Why I'm still alive Even though everyone else is dead I'm not the only one who's still walking around I'm the same as them! I just hadn't noticed it before." - Lisa Garland
Went for an instrumental by Akira Yamaoka again! This time from the first Silent Hill game. The song is taken from this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WG5fpimNIYI which features Harry Mason - the protagonist who is looking for his lost daughter, and Lisa Garland. Who to late realizes her own gruesome fate, which makes this one of the saddest moments in the game series.
Buzzjackfestivalen VI: Te Vaka - Lakalaka
Our way of life Expressed in this group All this love shown Is different and beautiful
Oki, so I forgot this was even a thing. My bad. As for who would have gotten my votes in the final… idk. I remember really enjoying Aeroche’s entry, and Jadakissnia’s entry has grown on me the past few weeks. So that is my top 2 I guess. Moving on ~
~~~
BJSC 136: Faun - Gaia
I will sing about the mother of all The well-founded and eldest Who feeds all creatures as many as they are All that move on the trusty land, and all in the sea And all that fly, all these are fed from her wealth Hail, Mother of the gods Wife of starry Heaven
Alright, so I’m bringing a former entrant of mine (and Séyetana) back, this time in Ancient Greek! Here are Faun with their interpretation of the Homeric hymn to the primordial deity of the earth, Gaia.
Posted by: Bré 14th July 2021, 01:11 PM
Really loving 'Gaia', think it is actually my favourite of the 3 Faun entries to date - it does sound a little more niche so not sure it'll see the same level of success but I hope it does!

I'm glad you like it Bré This is more left field than the other two entries by them, so I'm not expecting another top 10 hit. Hopefully I can make the final, which would be more than enough for me!

BJSC 137: Girls' Generation - All Night
It’s strange, feels like we’ve gotten closer So many things happened between us I wanna talk to you about it all night Smile together
We are bringing back Girls' Generation with their last single "All Night" for this contest. We have previously entered Tiffany Young as a solo artist a while ago, which ended with us narrowly missing the final. Can Girls' Generation get us to our third final this year? In other news, we have a new flag Jafet was kind enough to remake the flag he made for the contest he hosted earlier this year. Again, thank you so much!

BJSC 138: Tomorrow X Together - 9 And Three Quarters (Run Away)
On a dark night, under the stairs The magic began the moment i saw you Let's make a spell with your tears So there will be no more tears
Please be my eternity, please call my name Run away, run away, run away with me To the ends of the earth, forever together Run away babe, please give me an answer
Performance Version
It's been years and i'm still not over this song. I remember considering sending this for bjsc 120, but decided against it since I had sent NCT U to the previous contest. Anyway, Tomorrow X Together (TXT) is the "younger brother" group to BTS, meaning that they (among a few others) are both managed by BigHit Entertainment. "9 and Three Quarters (Run Away)" is the lead single of their first studio album The Dream Chapter: Magic.

In other news... We qualified Which means that TXT joins SEVENTEEN and Faun as our third qualifier this year. AND we have somehow managed to get four (NCT U, EXO, SEVENTEEN and TXT) male k-pop groups into the final! Which is kinda insane, since I have not managed to get one single girl group into the final

BJSC 139: Aimyon - Ikiteitandayona
The last few tears she shed Her red blood - proof she’d been alive Adults who didn’t know a damn thing about her Wiped them both up in just two seconds Yellow tape saying “DO NOT ENTER” I hear people around me saying, “I’ve only ever seen that in TV dramas” I wonder what in the world she thinks of all this From the far, far away place where she is now
“Live the one life you have to the best of your ability” What a bunch of lip service that is She gathered up all the courage she had and flew through the sky She became a bird, she grabbed the clouds Became the wind and flew into the distance Cradling her hopes and dreams in her arms
Performance Version
This time I’m sending a song with a heavy topic, suicide. The song is by no means a glorification of this, and should not by taken as such. With that being said, I present to you the Japanese artist Aimyon with her song "Ikiteitandayona" ("She Was Once Alive"). The full English translation that I have used can be found https://kimonobeat.tumblr.com/post/174491582333/aimyon-lyrics-ikite-ita-n-da-yo-na-%E7%94%9F%E3%81%8D%E3%81%A6%E3%81%84%E3%81%9F%E3%82%93%E3%81%A0%E3%82%88%E3%81%AA.

Oh wow this song's lyrics are a lot darker than I thought they'd be from the sound of the song.
This has been quite a big grower for me, another pretty unique sounding Asian entry, liking the juxtaposition of the WEDNESDAY CAMPANELLA esque talk-rap verses and the big anime theme esque chorus (I don't think this actually is tied to an anime? but it definitely could be if it wanted to). Hope it doesn't get slept on too much. (I did think it sounded like an obvious Iz fave, shame he is in the other semi!)

Christmas IV: Carola - Himlen I Min Famn
Vem har väckt den rädslan, som lät ditt hjärta gråta? Varför tar din hand så hårt ett grepp om mammas hår? Runt oss dansar skuggor, nu är ängeln borta Han sa så mycket vackert, mycket mer än jag förstår
Opps, forgot about this! Yeah, we avoided the bottom with this rather lovely swedish christmas song.
~~~
Worldvision VI: Mashrou' Leila - Roman
I don't intend on swallowing your lies The words will burn my throat I don't intend on dissecting your intentions Keep your tongue in it's cage
So Worldvision. Yeah, I ended up hosting the sixth edition, which was fun. We ended up getting Poland and Lebanon, and I ended up going with Lebanon. Keeping up with tradition (second time hosting on this site, so not really) I ended up near the bottom Anyway, I’m glad Mashrou' Leila found some new fans and hopefully my next attempt with them will go over a little better.
BJSC 142: Calle 13 ft. Totó La Momposina, Susana Baca & Maria Rita - Latinoamérica
Las caras mas bonitas que he conocido Soy la fotografía de un desaparecido La sangre dentro de tus venas Soy un pedazo de tierra que vale la pena
Vamos caminando Aquí se respira lucha Vamos caminando Yo canto porque se escucha Vamos dibujando el camino
Performance Version
For the previous contest Lotunia sent Calle 13 (Puerto Rico), Totó la Momposina (Colombia), Susana Baca (Peru) and Maria Rita (Brasil) with the song “Latinoamérica”. A song sung in Spanish and Portuguese. A song that through the music video shows the diversity of Latin-America. The song itself has a message of unity beyond borders, a definition of what makes a Latin-American person, and addresses several socio-political issues that this part of the world is still going through. So, I did not expect to qualify when I entered this - a dnq was pretty unsurprising. With that being said, I don't regret entering this. “Latinoamérica” has a spot in my heart, and it always will - I guess that is the Latin-American part of me speaking.
BJSC 143: Secret Garden - Prayer
Hush, lay down your troubled mind The day has vanished and left us behind And the wind, whispering soft lullabies Will soothe, so close your weary eyes
Let your arms enfold us Through the dark of night Will your angels hold us Till we see the light
Sleep, angels will watch over you And soon beautiful dreams will come true Can you feel spirits embracing your soul So dream while secrets of darkness unfold
Performance Version
Sending my favorite lullaby "Prayer" this time. Performed by the duo Secret Garden, a former Eurovision winner, with vocals by Karen Matheson.
Masquerade III: Marit Larsen - I Don't Want To Talk About It
All of the good that remains All that memory contains All that is still unexplained after he walked away He is the reason You are the reason why I Don't talk about what we are Don't talk about what we've been What's done is done, I don't want to talk about it It's never just one mistake It's never just one heartbreak What's done is done, I don't want to talk about it
So, we were a little too late to enter properly this spin-off Anyway, we ended up masquerading as Tinnmark with a pretty good scandipop song by the norwegian artist Marit Larsen. Which is someone that I have considered entering in the past, so i'm very happy that I got the chance now. In the end we landed at 24th which is fine more than good enough.
BJSC 144: M83 ft. Susanne Sundfør - Oblivion
Since I was young, I knew I'd find you But our love was a song sung by a dying swan And in the night, you hear me calling You hear me calling And in your dreams you see me falling, falling
Breathe in the light I'll stay here in the shadow Waiting for a sign, as the tide grows Higher, and higher, and higher
There was never really any doubt that Susanne Sundfør was going to by my anniversary entrant. Please enjoy the beautiful "Oblivion" by M83 and Susanne Sundfør!
~~~
*Looks at my iTunes playlist* Huh. 70 songs combined, eh? I never really thought that I would enter every single spin-off and main contest since I first started participating back in 2017, but here we are. Phew, it's been a good run. Mind you, there were a few close calls were I almost did not enter duo to uni kicking my ass every other month or because of travelling. To sum up my little journey: I've won once, had some top 20 hits (qualifying this days is nothing short of a miracle for me tbh), had some (many) bottom 10 -dnq- hits and a few vetoes. All in all it has been a pleasure taking part in this. I was going to make a top 10-20-something list but Uni is rightfully taking all my time right now (might do one later tho), just know that I have made plenty of discoveries through this contest that i'm still enjoying to this day!

BJSC 145: Tomorrow X Together - Nap of A Star
I wanna be your nap And forever dream together As if nothing was wrong The magical moments The glowing night sky They're engraved in my heart
Duo to winning the last contest we got a guaranteed spot in the final. This gave us the chance to send something that normally would strand in the semifinal. "Nap Of A Star" by TXT was the first song that sprung to my mine, a song that I would rather have sent to a spin-off contest under normal circumstances. The MV is essential to the experience and makes the song lullaby-esque or almost fairytale like. I'm very aware that this is not going to set the scoreboard on fire, but I do hope that it gets some fans - so please enjoy!

BJSC 146: Wiyaala - When The Lord Get Us Ready
God gives, God makes, and shares Gives everyone Their own thing Mine is to sing Mine is to dance Mine is to make people happy
Right, so last contest went well - or at the very least the hosting went okay Anyway, we are going to Ghana this time. Taken from her second album Sissala Goddess here is Wiyaala with one of my favorite discoveries from last year "When The Lord Get Us Ready".

BJSC 148: IU ft. Suga - Eight
So are you happy now? Finally happy now? Yeah Well, I'm just the same I feel like I lost everything
Everyone comes and goes as they wish Even without a goodbye If this is how things are I don't want to love again I travel through memories That have become old and worn out
Under the orange sun We dance together Where there are no shadows There is no promised seperation See you in my memory That was once beautiful
Performance Version
From her "coming-of-age" series, here is "Eight" by IU and Suga.

BJSC 150: Yoko Kanno ft. Arnór Dan - Von
Where things grow, there is hope All that heals holds hope Out of bonds of ice, she appears from Out of a frosty sky, she slowly moves forward
When all seems still, all is calm All is silent, hope ignites While everything seeks forward, flows forward Comes into being, then there is hope
"I asked Nine what he was always listening to. And he said it was music from a cold land... From Iceland. And then... He said that in Icelandic, V-O-N means... 'hope.'" - Lisa Mishima
Went for an japanese-icelandic collaboration this time. This song is taken from Zankyō no Terror which is an anime that Yoko Kanno and Arnór Dan made the soundtrack for. The song is taken from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jh72FD4ykyc scene. The artist themselves have appeared in BJSC in the past. Yoko Kanno represented Deandria in the first Movies spin-off, and Arnór Dan represented Jadakissnia together with Hugar in BJSC 95. Edit: Arnór Dan also represented Caerfyrddia together with Ólafur Arnalds on the song "So Close" in BJSC 54.
Posted by: Dr. Bré 3rd December 2022, 04:18 AM
Arnór Dan was also featured on another BJSC entry which is still up there with my faves of all time, Ólafur Arnalds' 'So Close' (a little before your time, Caerfyrddia in BJSC 54). I loved 'Waves' too so very much looking forward to hearing this one!

Worldvision VII: Chisu - Mysteeri
A day goes by, a night goes by A year goes by but still my heart beats for you I guess I can never forget you The streets are full of people, mysteries But they never make me linger Like you always do
For this edition of Worldvision we got the choice between Türkiye and Helsinki. At first I intended to send https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GMFE1qriAEfolk band representing Türkiye. However, I discovered that they were only based there and that almost none of the members were actually turkish. Which led me to Helsinki. Chisu and the song "Mysteeri" was a song I had down for bjsc 151, so sending this song here would free up a spot for the upcoming year. Winning came as a little surprise - I finally now have one of each the medal postions Well at least in the spin-off forum. Again, thank you so much for the points!
Received points from:
12p | Sovarasma 10p | Flynnonda and Pestolia 08p | Altyr Muunilinst, Cor Lupus, République d'Áskorza and Séyetana 07p | Danæviia, Jadakissnia and Land of DW 06p | 05p | 04p | 03p | 02p | Beaverdonia, Persephonia, Rolloland and Terra Avium 01p |

Thank you uhsting Unfortunately I won't be able to send this song to the main contest - I would however not be surprised if someone sent Chisu with another song to contest one of these days

Hyping this one big time...I actually confirmed it in BJSC 149 before I switched it to 007 Shake...it was sitting on my potential playlist to find the right time to send it again but so happy you managed it...no hard feelings though
Also this track it kinda followed me all over my flying in Europe in December for work...mainly I've heard it in Switzerland couple of times!!!

Movies II: Gain & Minseo - The Footsteps of My Dear Love
Let's dream a happy dream Just like long ago
Thrilled to have reached 8th with this beauty (and in a contest we hosted no less!) . Huge thanks to everyone that voted us!

BJSC 152: Adanna Duru - Pop!
Not a beauty in the world you ever seen like this Tell me do you wanna watch me move my waist like this
RnB-dreamyesque-Pop. Idk. I first found this back when the MV for the song was released - been loving it ever since and now felt like a good time to enter it. Hope you enjoy!

BJSC 153: Noelle - Cold Killer
You're a cold killer looking for a heart to break And I swear you were just another stupid mistake And I won't come back, baby I'm done lying awake You're a cold killer, screaming at the top of my lungs And I know that I'm not the only one You aimed in on me like a loaded gun So fire away
Well... This is apparently a former Popjustice winner I'm pretty sure me unintentionally sending a Popjustice winner has happened before too, so this is probably not a new situation It's a good song tho! Found it awhile back through youtube recomended and i've been pretty much hooked on it since. Hope you enjoy!

BJSC 154: Filip Baloš - Novi Plan Drugi San
Just let us end it They say time heals everything New plan, another dream Will it ever end?
Perfomance Version
Taken from this years serbian national selection for ESC. One of my absolute favorites from the (very few) national finals i've took the time to watch live. Here is Filip Baloš with the song "Novi Plan Drugi San" ("New Plan, Another Dream"). Surprisingly enough this came on at a party I attended last weekend. Hopefully that is a good sign!

BJSC 155: So Chan Whee - Tears
Let's regard this as if nothing had happened Let's regard each other as strangers Aren't you able to release me? You should forget me, I know it won't be easy for you But my heart aches because I know you're waiting for me
Perfomance Version
aka the "high note song". Now, this song is very well known in the K-Pop sphere. Not only because it is a genuine hit and beloved, but also because many idols have covered the song in interviews, radio shows, variety shows and in performances. I first got to know this song when EXO's Chen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dd0Y_js-JJc it on the variety show Knowing Brothers like 5 or so years ago. Hope y'all enjoy!

BJSC 156: Lucy Camp - In The Night
Nights are better in the dead of Like the way your bed is set up Dancing silhouettes do duets Let’s do it in no get up Said something at ten and then ya Got me at eleven when the Moon was in a state of beauty I just had to lift my head up
Every time we kiss I get a Feeling I can’t skip ahead of I just need the night and you but I don’t know if it’ll let us Never know if it’ll let us If it'll let us I know that the day don’t like us But the night would if it met us
So, we decided to recycle this time. Desbuanda - Come back etc. (;_;), sent Lucy Camp with "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTzu4Thi8gw" in the first contest (95) I competed in. post-bjsc 95 "The Heart Dies" became one of my most listened to songs from that era, and I consider it one of my absolute favourite discoveries from this contest. Desbuanda themselves went on to become one of my most pointed countries throughout the contests we competed in together - it was rare for me to not vote for one of their entries (at the time this also included Unovia, Quintessa and Persephonia). "In The Night" is one of the songs by her that I have loved for a while, hopefully this one also resonates with some people!
Posted by: Brer 22nd July 2023, 11:20 PM
I actually don't really remember the Desbuanda entry from her but I might need to give it a relisten because I loved this one <3
Posted by: NocheLuna 27th July 2023, 02:34 PM
Happy to hear that you like it Bré! (absolutely recommend taking a listen to "The Heart Dies")

BJSC 157: Niniola - Addicted
You know what i need You know i need it I'm so addicted I mean I can't live without it
By far one of our favorite contests this year <3 . Unfortunately, our chosen artist from Nigeria could not quite keep up - but the discoveries that I made this contest more then made up for it.
~~~
Foreign Language III: Lido Pimienta ft. Li Saumet – Nada
I'll be sincere with you and I'm not afraid Of death, if it wants me I'll wait for it here and smile I carry the pain inside I carry the pain, it's present I'm a woman of moon blood Of Earth, salt and dune Without pity, without a doubt I carry the pain inside
From one wonderful contest to another! We took part in the third edition of the Foreign Language Spin-off and sent Colombian artists Lido Pimienta and Li Saumet (known from Bomba Estéreo). The end result was 10th, which is more than good enough – thank you to everyone who voted!
~~~
BJSC 158: Fefe Dobson - Ghost
What's her name? What's she like? I should warn her that you'll never do her right All your games, all your lies I need to tell her, maybe I can change her mind
You act like you just saw a ghost I watched you getting way too close Now I know why you're never there Now I know, so it's my turn to disappear You act like you just saw a ghost I caught you Now I know
Decided to go Canadian again and send another song called “Ghost”. Fefe Dobson is fairly known is her home-country. The song itself falls under the pop-rock umbrella which I feel like might have been quite popular during the time of its release – at the very least among the Disney girls. Just received some intel that this has been on drag race? wasn't aware of that but yay for that .

Instrumentals II: Takeharu Ishimoto - The Price of Freedom
"The price of freedom is steep." - Zack Fair
Pleased to say that this was a fun contest to host! Would have liked to do a little better with this song - but it does fit my theme of hosting and landing in the bottom 3
~~~
BJSC 159: Awich - Queendom
The suspect is on the run, I'm confused It's not you, That's not true You gave me your word If you love me to death Then live, you liar
So, we are staying in Japan. From Okinawa here is Awich with "Queendom". The song describes her life from leaving Okinawa to Atlanta in the the 2000's, where she met her husband and how he was incarcerated and later murdered. which lead to her being a single mother and moving back Japan where she later started her artist career.
BJSC 160: Annie - American Cars (Richard X Edit)
Going into the night Like a flash in the dark See the tears in our eyes Fall of glittering stars In American cars
I’ll let go of the wheel And take hold of my heart So before we crash Kiss me under the stars In American cars
Performance Version
It has been awhile since I have sent someone from Norway. Annie is a Norwegian singer, DJ and songwriter. The song "American Cars" itself is part of the album Dark Hearts.
Christmas V: Sandra Lyng - Julefantasi
The star shines, but does it really shine here? With cold cheeks she stands among frozen trees And hear another melody about a Christmas fantasy Which is so beautiful, but it was never mine
They sang happy Christmas, peace on our earth While I picked up the angel that was crushed yesterday They sang happy Christmas, heaven on earth While the tears fell silently
I want to feel the warmth, joy and hope I Want to be in your Christmas fantasy
Had to actually translate this one myself haha. Not the happiest song I'll admit, but it's one the songs that hits just a little bit harder as one grow older.
~~~
BJSC 161: Ria Hall - Te Ahi Kai Pō
My peace is found My heart is still I feel your presence As the fire burns away the darkness
"Te Ahi Kai Pō (The Fire Burning Away The Darkness)" is in reference to finding peace following the aftermath of war. The battle of Te Ranga in June of 1864 is the inspiration for this song, which was an unplanned slaughter of many Māori. This attack was in retaliation to the battle of Pukehinahina, where the British found themselves at a loss to The Māori. The song is from New Zealand, sung fully in the Māori language.

Veto: Jacqline - Effortless
Call the police 'cause you just stole my heart
First veto in yearssssss. This is on me tho, had no idea she had participated with this song in melodifestivalen
~~~
BJSC 164: Infinity Song - Slow Burn
It's a long walk on a rainy day It's the sad song that you put on replay It's the distance between New York and LA It's sitting alone in the back of a cafe
Keep it going 'til the morning Fan the flames and keep on burning This is your lo-lo-love story It's a slow, slow burn
Anyway, we are back again for this contest with "Slow Burn" by the sibling vocal group Infinity Song. This was a discovery I made earlier this year and has been on repeat with a few of their other songs from the album Metamorphosis. All very introspective, calming and fun, not often I listen to an whole album these days. As for our future participation in the contest... idk. I've ended up taking a few more responsibilities at work. Additionally, I've been drowning in essays and deadlines the last few months and i'm currently facing several important exams starting in a few weeks. So, I haven't really had much time to sit down and actually listen to music and rank them accordingly, or really found a way to balance it all yet for any future participation.
(As for my non-voting in 161, I lowkey forgot about the deadline and went out with friends... opps )
