She definitely sounds more natural on here to what she’s done in a while.
I think on her own songs where she’s lead artists she sounds a lot more edited to how she sounds on here this feels like a fit between Bedtime stores era and Hard Candy era.
Abel is my king too so I’m buzzing two of my faves have joined forces.

Feel like it's about time I commented on this!
There's been rumours for ages about a collaboration between The Weeknd and Madonna (for at least two years actually, as I remember it being rumoured Madonna would join The Weeknd for his Super Bowl performance and they'd release a song together soon after). I did notice the rumours started circling again recently and it turns out there was actually truth to it! I think the song is good and I agree Madonna sounds better than she has in recent years, but I've not really been that inclined to return to it and I'm not sure I can see that changing. Happy to see Madonna with another Top 40 to her name but - and I am only comparing them because I'm huge fans of them both - it doesn't feel quite as much of an achievement when I see Kylie managing a genuine smash all on her own. I feel like Madonna could not be on this song and it wouldn't make a difference to its chart performance.
I like that The Weeknd is up for making a full album with Madonna (and I appreciate that he acknowledges it would be a co-produce as Madonna is always involved in that side of things), I'd be very interested to hear what they could create together.

I agree with what you have said, and again im not pitting them against each either but Padam Padam just feels like a bigger achievement as Kylie is doing it alone, but isnt it great seeing both back in the Top 20. Its not something we would have predicted for 2023. I think Madonna and The Weeknd working together on an album has the potential to be great and think they could come up with something very interesting, I haven't really enjoyed anything from Madonna for a good few years now so id be happy to get that changed.

I feel like the reaction even from Madonna's fans have been muted - hell, I'd argue you can see that with the iTunes performance; her audience is mostly older (35+) and the fact that it couldn't get into the top 3 there makes me think they aren't really here for it. It's another hit to her name, but one that she really can't use to launch anything from (unless she ends up recording a solo version that gets popular on its own).
Also, I f***ing hate Abel, so I hope she stays far away from the walking red flag.

Agree Popular is doing that well because of The Weeknd and his trainwreck TV series, but I'm fairly sure that if/when Madonna releases her new lead single, it'll do better in streams globally than PP has so far. Even Medellin peaked at 922,248 streams on Spotify and was considered a flop or at least underperformance.

I’d be shocked if she didn’t - her main markets are not confined to the UK & Australia, by default with the American market she will ‘beat’ PP not that it holds any relevance

She is obviously rebuilding her career in the long run: this, Vulgar, the appearances on Christine and the Queens' album, the world tour... they are all very different projects to each other and all cater a bit different audience. Very interesting to see what happens when she releases her ACTUAL new single. It can do very well!

The Weeknd isn't always guaranteed a blockbuster smash, like his recent one debuted top 20 and was pretty much out of the chart entirely in 2/3 weeks. Also he did one with Calvin Harris which bombed hard in the wake of 'Blinding Lights', and on paper that sounded like it couldn't go wrong.

I’m going to have to bite.. Madonna is leagues ahead of Kylie as an artist - K isn’t an artist, just a harmless, fun-ish pop puppet, who has nothing to say ever, so no, that duet will never happen :-).

Oh i see lol. I was just talking to a big weeknd fan. He said the album this was coming from has been cancelled due to the response of the songs released.
He also confirms he has only sang this twice on the tour.
Its doing well in UK without a video and with only one version available.

I'm glad this is having a bit of longevity in the UK, even if it did drop like a stone in the US.

I’m still enjoying this and I’m hopeful that it being a hit whilst the likes of ‘Vulgar’ have flopped will convince Madonna that this is more in line with the music she should be making. Catchy song, good vocals.

If that's true, then that's re-writing history and shouldn't be allowed. What's more, her contribution to the song is one verse only. She doesn't deserve a lead credit.

She always had a joint lead credit, but Playboi Carti was "demoted" to a feature on Apple while Madonna retained joint lead status, therefore making her name look more prominent.

I said it before, but I think most Madonna fans are well aware that she's not the one that's driving this single's success hence the sort of muted reaction from her fanbase. Sure it's nice to see her back on the charts, but it's unlikely to do much for her solo stuff.

Yeah this is my take on it too. I'm still happy to see it doing well and it's going to be another tally to her Top 10 hits, but the song would still be achieving pretty much the same success without her on the track. It's not like she's beaten the odds in the way Kylie has done.

I hope it gets there, been far too long since Madonna was in the top 10 singles chart! I am gutted she never did it in the 10s decade. Often wonder what her chart position would have been like had she released Rebel Heart album over MDNA, I could have seen living for love charting higher than it did later on had the whole debacle of MDNA not happened.

Yes I don’t view it as a Madonna single as such. It’s great that she’s a part of it and I’m happy to see it doing okay for all involved but it doesn’t excite me like new solo Madonna material would.

#12 in the UK. I did wonder if it would miss the Top 10 when I saw it was lower in the early midweeks than it was a week ago.
#11 sold 20,374 and #13 sold 19,259, I think it might have passed 20k given it's performed similar on Spotify and managed 20.6k the week prior. Total sales stand at 118k.

Falls victim to ACR in its first eligible week. I did think this looked like it was heading Top 10 but it wasn't to be. It was Top 10 a few times on Spotify though, must have been let down by other formats. Its chart run:

Total sales are ~172k, couple of weeks away from Silver which will make it Madonna's most recent single to be certified since 'Give It 2 Me'.
Also reached a peak of #15 on radio and #6 on TV!

Me neither! It still kind of astounds me how it went completely south in that department immediately afterwards, I never would have imagined that around the time 'Celebration' was out. But it's easy to see how looking back on it.
