New Lady Gaga (another already?!) comes Monday, called "Edge of Glory". You know we'll have it!!! =)
QUOTE
Be ready! @961Flick will debut the new Lady Gaga track at 3pm on Monday - "Edge of Glory"!!!
No confirmation on whether this actually is the third official single yet, or if its just a Promo single.
Do Promo singles usually get sent to US Radio though?
Posted by: Liаm 5th May 2011, 11:58 PM
None of Katy Perry's (TGIF, Circle The Drain, Not Like The Movies) went to radio at the time - obviously TGIF has now as it's the 5th single Also, Taylor Swift's 3 promos (Speak Now, Mean, Back To December) were sent to radio, until the latter two were singles. So I think Edge Of Glory will be 3rd single ALREADY () as promo singles do not generally get sent to radio as this seems to be!
Posted by: Rain 6th May 2011, 12:58 AM
Gaga said we would hear a few more songs before the album release. I don't think it necessarily means it is the next single though.

On May 5, 2011, Interscope sent out an e-mail to numerous radio stations stating that "The Edge of Glory" was to be released on Monday, May 9, 2011, as the first promotional single for Born This Way. It will also serve as the first song in the "Countdown to Born This Way" promotion on the iTunes Store.
Posted by: nicco 7th May 2011, 12:04 PM
f*** yeah. That means we will get more songs before Born This Way release.

It should be really good if it was the Original Lead Single
Posted by: Regina 7th May 2011, 07:47 PM
I thought that was Marry The Night?
Posted by: Liаm 7th May 2011, 07:51 PM
Yes it was Marry The Night which was originally set to be the first single, and iirc Edge Of Glory was described as 'the lovechild of Speechless and Bad Romance' which sounds EPIC! You & I is a big ballad though, on the subject. Live version is amazng, hope it's one of the promo singles.

So she chose to release 'Born This Way' and 'Judas' over this why exactly? This is a million times better than those two. I have to admit I'm not exactly a big GaGa fan but it's definitely in my top 3 songs by her so far...
Posted by: Jaack Sykes 9th May 2011, 07:37 PM
This should be a lot better received than BTW & Judas. It's not in your face with religion or the equality message of BTW, it has a very strong chorus and doesn't sound like a mess. & personally, I can't think of a song that it's 'copying'.
Posted by: David John 9th May 2011, 07:37 PM

Brilliant! Echo what Cremey said about her being DELUDED releasing 'Born This Way' and 'Judas' over this - it's sublime, and if this is a better reflection of what the album will sound like, I'm a little bit more "excited" than I was (which was not at all).

amazing.
Anthemic, melodic without sounding like a poor tribute of anything, the sax and synth parts are great, and the chord progression in the bridge is Very hyped up for the album once again now! Really would have led with this over Born This Way personally, it definitely has a lead single feel to it imo...

I'm DISAPPOINTED to see everyone has stolen my EXACT THOUGHTS on this and paraded them as their own. I usually go against the general GaGa grain.
This is the first time I've heard a song from her new album and thought "Oh, this is good." Born This Way was good but massively disappointing, and Judas was awful and gradually become quite something. Edge of Glory is instantly good. I hope there's much of this sort of stuff to come.
Posted by: Davidson 9th May 2011, 08:24 PM
This is absolutely fantastic. I am even more excited for the album now . Not quite on Judas level yet though.

I'm not sure what to think on first listen... it's just so... NORMAL!
LOVE the intro section... the chorus is very much like Pink (especially the backing dropping away for a moment before the chorus kicks in) which isn't a bad thing. Love the synth strings that are under the saxophone solo but I sort of wish the sax wasn't there and the bit at 3.48 onwards was extended as the breakdown section... I think I like it but it's not quite the statement that Born This Way and Judas have been so I can understand why she didn't go with it as first single.

It's quite a country-pop vocal - like Cascada used to do.
Posted by: Liаm 9th May 2011, 09:28 PM
I was passing judgement on this until a few (ie like 10) listens:
Ok... I will admit I was SO dissapointed on first listen, but I've given it like 2 hours now and now I LOVE it! It reminds a mix of My Life Would Suck Without You by Kelly Clarkson and Born This Way I love the sax bits too! For me: Judas > Born This Way > Edge Of Glory
All are 10/10, and I'd probably say, even at this early stage Edge is my 3rd fave song of the year! SUCH a loon
EDIT: This grows EVERY listen, and now it's just finished again: Judas >> Edge >>>> Born This Way
But as I said above, my top 3 songs of the year

Born this Way and Edge of Glory are more or less patchworks of other people's songs...that's something even Katy Perry isn't allowed to do without getting slagged off for it. Why should Lady Gaga be allowed to do it also?

I agree in principle. Whilst Edge of Glory is definitely catchy and I do find myself quite liking it, I was expecting an album of forward thinking pop tracks after the hype (which to be fair, she has created most of that expectation herself) but so far we haven't had anything that I would say has stretched her musically at all.

TBF i think that will come with some of the other songs on the album, (for example there are two versions of Americano, one of which she sings entirely in Spanish!), plus the snippet of Scheisse is like nothing i've heard before (even tho it is a remix). Government Hooker also sounds epic and unique - i just dont think she was ever going to release something so 'out-there' because the risk is too great.
I don't think its fair to judge musically the entire album on these singles as from what we've heard so far it will be varied (unlike Femme Fatale which sounds like the same song 15 times over)

A good portion of BTW's attention was for it ripping off Express Yourself (which I never got tbh ). The comparisons for TEOG are practically unhearable for me as well, it's only really that the chorus reminds me of Kelly Clarkson slightly, it's hardly strong enough to be called a rip-off!

Lots of songs can be compared to others. It's hard to create a truly unique song, there's just too many of them!

So true. I mean there are blatant rip-offs (Cascada's San Francisco/Katy Perry's California Gurls) but there are 'this song sounds a bit like something else' (Nicole Scherzinger's Right There/Rihanna's Te Amo or Rude Boy). It's not as if Gaga's gonna create a totally unique song that changes the face of music for every new single! She's the best musical act in the world imo, and makes great, (mostly) critically acclaimed pop.

Oh I'm not doing and I hope that she will push herself on the album tracks. I just think she's made a big thing about this album being a big step forward and created a massive set of additional expectations to live up to which, so far, I don't think she has delivered on - even though I do like the songs themselves.

Well DECADES after everyone else heard it seemingly, I've finally gotten round to it and I have to say that for the first time this era with her - I'm actually impressed. It's technically nothing overly impressive but it's preferable to the 2 singles so far and has a lot more of the old Gaga charm to it.

Feel so good to see all these positive reactions. Easily my fave track from Born This Way era. I'm so f***ing excited now

So is it just me who is left incredibly underwhelmed and a general feeling of "meh" after listening to this?
Posted by: Jonjo 9th May 2011, 11:37 PM
This is bloody fantastic! Easily one of her best songs after first listen! It sounds like it's the 'Paparazzi'/'Dance In the Dark' of this era for me! (My top 2 GaGa songs!) I knew it'd be too soon to completely write her off in my "not so interested" list. I can see why it wasn't the first single, but it would have been a great second single choice/album lead!

So basically everyone is saying that The Edge Of Glory is a thousand times better than Born This Way Or Judas... and everyone would be completely right!! It's fantastic, the Gaga we know and love! Quite why she didn't release this as the lead single just baffles me, it would have had number one written all over it! Loving the 80's rock ballad chorus! Let's hope the album's more like this than BTW/Judas.

It's one of the best songs Katy Perry never wrote. Everything from the vocal to the melody to the instrumentation sounds like it could quite easily have been Katy song but that's not a diss by any stretch of the imagination. It's a bloody good song actually. No massive and jarring sonic switch-ups in the middle of the song, just a great big fat hook, a simple but instantly gorgeous melody and a really natural vocal. Great work.
01. Born This Way 02. The Edge of Glory
~gulf the size of China~
03. Judas
Posted by: Silas 10th May 2011, 03:17 AM
I can hear the slight Kelly Clarkson influence, and given that My Life Would Suck Without You is f***ing brilliant it's not a bad thing. Far better than copying a Madona track bar for bar anyway.
This is the first track from this era that has clicked right away, Judas is only just clicking with me now and it took me a while to get pass the pretentiousness of Born This Way.
Hopefully she can crawl out of her arse for long enough to make a decent video for this, more along the lines of Eh, Eh; Pokerface; Telephone and Just Dance.

Lots of songs can be compared to others. It's hard to create a truly unique song, there's just too many of them!
I agree, there are only so many ways you can take a melody, every time I hear a new song my head compares it to something else, I can't help it I haven't heard a completely unique, sounds like nothing else at all, song for years - Boom Boom Pow was maybe the last one! Anyway, it actually reminds me more of this than Kelly Clarkson;
o/t but that was such an underrated song

TBF i think that will come with some of the other songs on the album, (for example there are two versions of Americano, one of which she sings entirely in Spanish!), plus the snippet of Scheisse is like nothing i've heard before (even tho it is a remix). Government Hooker also sounds epic and unique - i just dont think she was ever going to release something so 'out-there' because the risk is too great.
I don't think its fair to judge musically the entire album on these singles as from what we've heard so far it will be varied (unlike Femme Fatale which sounds like the same song 15 times over)
WhatEVER! J-Lo has been doing that since 1999. Kylie also did it with All The Lovers. Singing in a differrent language ain't hard.

Government Hooker definately sounds absolutely incredible from the remix
Apparently from a fan that has heard the album (with Gaga) it starts the same as the remix, then changes after the "i can be cool" line. So it is fairly similar
It includes the lyrics "i can be sex"

No Judas was dying on US radio so I think that's why they rushed Edge Of Glory there. I don't think they expected it to have the reaction it has had worldwide though. She's promoting now so I don't know when she'll get time to do a video, probably when it's too late no doubt.

But two promotional singles were set to release before the album. As you said, due to this great response, they released it as third single so it gets airplay too. But if it's a worldwide release, then we are officially moving in third single at the time that Judas is climbing.

She NEEDS a #1 this era though, just so people don't write her off as a has-been
Posted by: PaulM1983 13th May 2011, 08:59 AM
If she changed her plans and performed this on Graham Norton, she'd have a shot at number 1. She would easily overtake Bruno again, and it would maybe give her that little bit of a lead to start the week ahead of him. Nothing would have got her to number 1 this week though. I think she'll manage number 3.
However, from the photos that have been online today, she definitely performed Judas and Born This Way on Graham, so at least Judas might get a little boost, and it will stay top 10 for a bit.
This song is almost my favourite of the era so far. Every time I listen to it, I hear something new that I love. I usually find that album closing tracks can be a bit crap, but if this is the closer, I'm dying to hear what comes before it

Ridiculous thing to say. Nobody is going to 'write her off' on account of not having a #1. Nobody can hold up such high standards.

Agree, even if she doesn't secure a UK #1, BTW was a huge WW hit, Judas not as much but its still been decent. The album will be huge IMO, and with around 9 singles expected she isn't stopping any time soon

Gaga better put the video out quick, to prevent The Edge Of Glory from falling too much. Her record label and Gaga herself probably saw the charts of Judas and saw it isn't appealing and therefore have moved on quickly to the next single which is a good choice.
Posted by: Rain 18th May 2011, 10:35 PM
I really hope they get this video right. The song is far too amazing to have a subpar video. It needs to be properly epic to match the euphoria of the song.
Posted by: HausofKubrick 19th May 2011, 02:37 PM
The video wont be around for a long time, if her other videos are anything to go buy. We will probably start getting bits towards the end of June. Glad its the 3rd single, also hoping Scheiße, You & I, Bloody Mary and Government Hooker follow shortly after (in that order)

I hope she doesn't keep us waiting much longer though. I'm really beginning to love this now, its not my favourite release from the ear so far, 'Judas' is, but I don't usually get into the singles properly anyway till we've got the music video. From Digital Spy:
QUOTE
Lady GaGa will release 'The Edge of Glory' as an official single via Streamline/Interscope/KonLive on July 18.
The track was first released as a teaser for Born This Way on May 9 but was quickly tipped to be the third full single spinoff from the album.
Her previous single releases from the record were the title track 'Born This Way' and follow-up 'Judas'.
A promotional video for the track will premiere on Vevo.com at around 1am UK time this Friday, June 17. It will also debut at 8pm ET/PT on Fox in the US.
The video has been directed by Joseph Kahn, who previously worked on GaGa's clip for 'Lovegame'.
It was originally announced that 'LoveGame' director Joseph Khan would be working with GaGa on the video, but he has since stated that he did not end up making the promo.
Writing on Twitter, Khan announced: "I did NOT direct Lady Gaga's "Edge of Glory" video. Lady Gaga did."
When asked by fans why Khan was no longer credited as the director for the promo, GaGa's creative director Laurieann Gibson tweeted: "sorry guys there was a slight turn of events on Set (sic)."
Replying to a post that insinuated she wasn't speaking the truth about the situation, Gibson wrote: "listen u disrespectful f**k they had an issue on set I don't lie!!!!!"
Record label Interscope has since confirmed that GaGa's creative collective The Haus of GaGa are credited as the clip's collaborative directors.
GaGa's music video for 'The Edge of Glory' will premiere this evening at 8pm ET/PT on Fox in the US.

Something clearly must have gone seriously wrong on set for it turn out this $h!t and low-budget looking. It's a bunch of nothing, Keri Hilson's performance on So You Think You Can Dance was more exciting.
I agree with triangles, that the original treatment must have been scrapped during shooting, probably the same time as the director walked out. There was nothing "fishy" at all; so disapointing after the performance in France hinted at so much.

I can't wait to read all the stan excuses and people trying to defend it for being "simple". Kahn probably had a vision and went into it thinking he wouldn't have to deal with Gaga and Laurieann Gibson's continuous changes. Too many fingers in the pie. They definitely shot something with him though! They scrapped it for this?! Haha.
She surely must be around a lot of yes-men? I can't imagine her team ever saying no to her.

Worst video EVER.
1: Firstly since it was about the last moment before you die, it was meant to be emotional. I sense no emotions but a bare face all the time and her acting crazy, DOES NOT FIT THE CONCEPT OF THE SONG.
2: There is a lack of any storyline or whatsoever, it's just her at a storey house outside jumping and waffling about.
3: Has she ran out of ideas and therefore re-used Alejandro dance moves? (4:17)
4: Has she ran out of ideas and therefore re-used Just Dance dance moves? (4:27)
-------
This is just a pop disaster, god dammit and it just KILLED the song. The song was doing great until this music video came out. Firing Joseph Kahn and making this crap is clearly not good.
Did Gaga really hype all this up just for this video? It was even worse than the Just Dance music video...
Although that said, maybe the scene was from where she lives in New York and maybe before she dies, she'd go back there once more?
Posted by: Rain 17th June 2011, 01:22 AM
What the hell is that crap? It actually goes no where, just the same scenes repeated over and over. What a shame her best song (IMO) has her worst video. It's such a huge amazing song and she delivers this dull, forgettable video.

Actually the stans are going nuts, it has been INSTANT backlash, and I haven't seen anyone try to defend it so far. Although, it was GaGa and Gibson that wrote the original treatment, and it was going to be a joint direction by them the same as Judas; Kahn came in at a late stage, so the vision for the video was already laid out. Clearly, for some reason, the original treatment was scrapped. I get the feeling though that Gibson also left GaGa in the $h!tter, I mean what cherography was that?! Did they have a falling out too, there's no excuse for that part of the mess.

Hence the unchoreographed dance movements, there's a proof since she recycled Telephone, Alejandro and Just Dance dance movements. She wasn't even prepared for it..

Posted by: Tirren 17th June 2011, 02:10 AM
Anyway, as I've posted over on Moopy I have found one person who's defended it, and he is by no means a stan for Gaga who uncritically loves all she does:
QUOTE
After frantically blogging the new Lady Gaga video to satisfy the small minority of imbeciles on Twitter who couldn’t find it for themselves (I myself had to be aided by Tyron), I’ve now taken 5:28 out of my incredibly busy life to watch the damned thing.
I have to admit I was apprehensive about even watching this video when the hype started about it earlier this week - after the inane travesty that was the Alejandro video and the frankly ridiculous advertisement-infused homage to consumerism that was Telephone, I don’t know if I could handle Gaga ruining what has become my favourite single of hers to date.
When Lady Gaga chose The Edge of Glory as a promotional single, she had to choose wisely - Born This Way left a lot to be desired with such genius lyrics as “You’re Lebanese, you’re Orient!”, and Judas, although I love it 3 months down the line, took a long time to grow on me and hundreds of thousands of others. Luckily, TEOG was a triumph, and the rest as they say is history. (We’ll pretend Hair never happened)
The only thing that really could have spoiled the third single from the Born This Way album would have been a god-awful video - thankfully, Gaga’s not let us down.
The try-hard faux-political undertones of Alejandro are nowhere to be found, the loosely-offensive religious symbology of Judas left in April where they belong, and not a single Born This Way-style rapidly-reproducing Gagavagé in sight.
It’s just Gaga, circling a few fire hydrants, waltzing up and down a fire escape like a cross between Velma Kelly, Evelyn Salt and a gothic prostitute, chilling on some steps with an old black guy who used to knock about with Bruce Springsteen, and a distinctively Gaga-esque wiggle at 4:14. There’s also a nice leap-and-click of the heels at 4:04 which made me smile, but that’s neither here nor there.
Why the huge shift in video style from the last 5 videos to this one? Well, I guess nobody really knows.
Maybe she thinks the song speaks for itself and doesn’t need a video to sell it? Perhaps it’s supposed to be a welcome change to the massive thought-provoking extravaganzas to which we’ve become accustomed from Gaga - and for the most part are all starting to find induce a new level of pop-related tedium?
The video’s been out less than an hour and already I’m seeing a lot of criticism directed towards it, which I can only assume means people have forgotten what this song is actually about - the video hints at it enough.
In writing TEOG, Lady Gaga proved beyond any reasonable doubt that she isn’t a run-of-the-mill pop star; she’s an artist. In her own words:
"The song’s about your last moment on Earth, the moment of truth, the edge of glory is that moment right before you leave the Earth."
Who else would harness the emotion surrounding the death of their grandfather, lyricise it, throw a stomping dance beat behind it and enlist some saxophones to create a truly triumphant climax? The song is profoundly beautiful in its sublime simplicity, and the video is no different.
In this video, we see Gaga leap up and down the street - alone for the first time in any of her promos thus far - while also motionlessly singing to the heavens for brief periods and at one stage symbolically kissing the earth. If we remember that this isn’t a “pop video” - it’s a celebration of the fragility of life, the glory of death and the limbo in between - then it all makes perfect, simple sense.
A superbly apt accompaniment to what deserves to be remembered always as the greatest single of Lady Gaga’s career.

I said that there were people who, despite requesting a 'basic standard pop video' and saying that was what was wrong with Born This Way, Judas etc., would attack this just as fervently, despite it being nothing if it isn't a 'basic standard pop video'. People by and large reacted well to Judas but there were still a sizeable amount of people who were all 'oh, whatever, this is just average' despite it being exactly the short form delight that they asked for. Saying this doesn't amount to me defending the video.

I was saying the negative reaction from some quarters was hypocritical given there are a load of people who constantly complain about how every video from Gaga has to be 'an event' and that they just want a normal pop video. They got something that wasn't an event and was a normal pop video and they're screaming just as loud as they have done at everything else. I don't have to like the video to see when some people are being absolute hypocrites towards it - it's called objectivity, try it sometime.

To compare it to the levels of 'Gimme More' is kinda sad... considering Britney was in the midst of one of the biggest celebrity mental breakdowns in the history of pop culture. Atleast it kind of fit into the theme of people wanting MORE, and the purple colors were pretty.
This is Gaga's worst video to date. Probably the most boring music video I have ever watched... really upsetting since it's such an amazing song, if she wanted the simple route it could have been done much better.

But oh my god, what a boring cheap video. You expect that from a newbie artist where the label don't spent too much money on the artist just yet
An amazing song with high lifting lyrics and they have her on a fake street dancing around. For Gaga, this is truly poor and not like her at all. You can't say money is no object when it comes to her.
Very disappointed. The worst video of her career.
Posted by: gooddelta 17th June 2011, 07:32 AM
Glad I'm not a stan because there's no way I could conceivably justify that. I fell asleep. It wouldn't be so bad if you didn't know that it probably cost a ridiculous amount of money to make.
Fair dues to her for making a 'simple video' but meaninglessly prancing around a street set for 5 and a half minutes isn't really what anybody was after. Simple could be done a lot more effectively and in a more relevant setting for probably a quarter of the budget.
I love the song but I'm still a bit shocked at how everything's turned out for her this era. She was always going to face a certain degree of backlash and certainly overhype coming off the back of the perfection of Bad Romance and The Fame Monster but even I'm surprised that the singles or videos have been this weak in comparison. Hopefully it's not the signal that she was a 1.5 album wonder because she's such a talent, the Monster Ball tour was one of the best spectacles I've seen in my life - thoroughly amazing. Rihanna's come back stronger than ever with Loud after a commercially sub-par era (even though I adore Rated R) and superstar's should be able to do that. It's not even that the album itself isn't strong because it really is great and packed full of hits and innovation, but Born This Way, Judas and these streams of pretentious and/or directionless videos (imo) are not convincing anybody that this is the case. Whereas Bad Romance/Telephone were the perfect contrast to each other, amazing pop and had stunning videos (still pretentious but far more effective) hence sold the album with ease.
Posted by: Lukuzz 17th June 2011, 08:54 AM
This is just utter crap. which is a shame as its by far the best song from the album. She didn't even seem like she was enjoying her self and the lip syncing to the track was terrible she seemed out of time. The word boring doesn't do it justice.
And as for people talking about Britney's Gimme More. At least that was entertaining (for the wrong reasons yes) but at least it didn't send you to sleep.

It's hardly atrocious, but I agree that she could have produced something a lot stronger given the inevitably gargantuan budget. Perhaps crucially from a commercial point of view, TV will lap it up because it's so simple.

Posted by: -Irish-Ladd- 17th June 2011, 11:26 AM
Okay, this is probably the most mixed opinion I've had EVER. I want to love the video, I don't. I think she was going for a 'simple yet effective' video - But this is just simple and boring. Remember she hyped up Judas as her ''best video she's ever done'' - She never really hyped this - I can see why :/
But, anyone notcie in the video (towards the end) how she's actually smiling, laughing and dancing on her own. When was the last time we seen her doing all 3 of these in a video? :/ She actually enjoyed herslef when making this video (I'm sure she enjoyed the rest but we as the viewer can see it here) and isn't that what music is about? Making people happy and enjoying yourself.
Overall, I am disappointed in this video but it doesn't make me love or hate this song anymore than I did before the video. Also, I would have prefered if she jumped off the top of the building in the end. Would've made it more emotional.

It's so frustrating reading about the planned concept that was scrapped. I thought there might have been budget issues but clearly not because the sets were built and the dancers were hired. Is she really that deluded to think people would be happy and satisfied to watch over 5 minutes of just her?

To compare it to the levels of 'Gimme More' is kinda sad... considering Britney was in the midst of one of the biggest celebrity mental breakdowns in the history of pop culture. Atleast it kind of fit into the theme of people wanting MORE, and the purple colors were pretty.
So are you saying the Gimme More video was BETTER?
I wouldn't argue with that.

This video is probably her worst to date, though nice to see for once she's not going over the top. At least the song has already sold a fair bit so not much more damage can be done, it's already peaked at 6. The song definitely makes the video more bearable.
Posted by: Slick 17th June 2011, 01:13 PM
I had a feeling this video would be kinda rubbish after it was so quickly announced as third single on the back of it doing so well as a promotional track. It looks as if they were GOING to put a reasonable amount of effort in still, but it's fallen by the wayside regardless. It's not the worst video I've ever seen - it's just not entertaining in the slightest which means it fails at its main purpose. Without a doubt her worst and one of the worst (if not THE worst) I've seen this year from a big female artist.

The directors version better leak because I'm pretty sure, it's shot already but Gaga want to release and reshoot that crap version instead.
Posted by: JΛRK 17th June 2011, 01:43 PM
There was no directors' version edited together. They scrapped the footage of the bits that did get shot.
Posted by: Oricon 17th June 2011, 01:48 PM
Gaga better realize this and someone better slap her face that the video is a disaster or recycled concept, dance moves and repeated parts in the video.

I feel like the only person who really enjoyed it. After disappointing videos like Alejandro & BTW, I'm happy with it, not extended for nothing, just as long as the song itself. Thought she looked pretty good too.
I don't mind the change, I was very unsure about a 'fishy' theme.

Personal taste. It was FAR superior to BTW and Alejandro however. It just wasn't a music video up to standard with, say, Bad Romance.

I'm actually appreciating this video now, it reminds me of retro 80s videos; early Madonna but more specifically Billie Jean. The lighting and smoke is fabulous at creating an otherworldy tone, her last moments of celebrating her "glory" in the place that she truly loves before she crosses over to the other side; celebrating in the place that gave birth to her literally and creatively, and the place where she will most likely die. And when GaGa does die, I can see this being the video that is shown on news coverage, and the video that is looked on most fondly and iconically; for the fact that it's just her.
The video clearly has faults: it's rough round the edges; there's no progression to a big climax, only a subtle end; GaGa's prancing around can be a bit eye rolling at times, and the whole debacle surrounding the shooting taints it. Regardless, I can appreicate what GaGa is doing with this video and it's actually quite beautiful in its simplicity. It wears its heart on its sleave and it's the most honest thing GaGa has ever done.
It didn't need mermaids and doctors to get this across, she changed her mind. Sometimes a cigar is a cigar.

There is absolutely no way people can intellectualise this video. Sure, it's not as bad as I originally thought but everything else you've described is nonsense. She fucked up with the original concept and made a boring rush-job mess instead, time to move on.
I saw this in the related videos to the Paul O'Grady performance, 'Marry the Night' works annoyingly well with the video. The people from Popjustice are getting around.

It's doesn't require much intellectualising to see that there is a concept of her merely "celebrating" her final moments of life in the place that defines her as a person and artist, it might be a boring video concept that didn't pan out, but there is a concept. A rather neat concept in fact. And how are we supposed to know that the original concept would have worked any better? We don't. As for a rush job it doesn't take much filming to get all the dancing-around-the-street material needed for a video like this. This was the direction she decided to go in, it didn't need any more time, what would they have done with an extra third day? Shot some more of her prancing about. It is what it is. You like it or you don't.

If you've read through the topic you'd what happened.
Joseph Kahn was the original director, and his idea included a mermaid scene, which was to do with the 'fishy' hint'. But he was fired after an argument on set, apparently. The video that we have, GaGa directed.

Hence one of the picture leaked of possibly Gaga as a mermaid was actually one of the real shoots from which Gaga scrapped...

Clarence Clemons, the legendary saxophonist in the E Street Band who played alongside Bruce Springsteen for the past 40 years, died on June 18th. Clemons had suffered a massive stroke on June 12th. While initial signs had been hopeful after his hospitalization and two subsequent brain surgeries, he reportedly took a turn for the worse later in the week. He was 69.
Clemons – known affectionately to fan and friends as the Big Man – was the heart and soul of the E Street Band. His playing on tracks like "Born To Run," "Thunder Road," "Jungleland," "Dancing In The Dark" and countless more represent some of the most famous sax work in the history of rock & roll. "The story I have told throughout my work life I could not have told as well without Clarence," Springsteen wrote in the introduction to Clemons' 2009 memoir Big Man: Real Life and Tall Tales.
So much has been said and written about the stormy night in Asbury Park in 1971 when Clemons met Springsteen that it's hard to separate fact from myth. At the time, Springsteen was a struggling musician playing the New Jersey bar circuit and Clemons was a former college football player who spent his nights playing sax in clubs along the shore. "It was raining and thundering like a motherf***er," Clemons wrote in his memoir. "When I opened the door it blew off the hinges and flew down the street . . . Somebody introduced me to Bruce, everybody knew everybody, and he asked me if I wanted to sit in."
Clemons soon became part of Springsteen's backing band (not yet known as the E Street Band), and when Bruce recorded his debut LP Greetings From Asbury Park in the summer of 1972, Clemons was brought in for the sessions. Over the next two decades, Clemons became the most recognizable member of the E Street Band – for his massive size, equally huge personality and his onstage role as Springsteen's foil.
He's the only member of the band on the cover of Born To Run with Springsteen. "When you open it up and see Clarence and me together, the album begins to work its magic," Springsteen wrote in Clemons' memoir. "Who are these guys? Where did they come from? What is the joke they are sharing? A friendship and a narrative steeped in the complicated history of America begins to work and there is music already in the air."
In the 1980s, Clemons began a second career as an actor, appearing in TV shows like Diff'rent Strokes and movies such as Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. He also scored a solo hit in 1985 with "You're A Friend Of Mine," a duet with Jackson Browne. He was on tour with Ringo Starr's All Star Band in 1989 when Springsteen phoned him to say he was breaking up the band. "I didn't speak or even attempt to interject," Clemons wrote in his memoir. "I got very quiet and stopped smiling. In fact, it looked to Ringo like I was being told about somebody dying."
The E Street Band reformed in 1999 and has been incredibly active ever since. Clemons loved being back on the road, even as he battled incredible pain with his knees, back and hips. Earlier this year, he played sax on two tracks on Lady Gaga's new album Born This Way ('The Edge of Glory' and 'Hair'). He appears in the recently released video for "Edge of Glory," and his final live performance was with Gaga on the season finale of American Idol.
Not just profit, media attention towards it too and it would shift sales.
