Lady GaGa 'Poker Face'
The Fame
Interscope
Winter 2008

This is the second single to be taken from 'The Fame' somewhat unsurprisingly. Smexiness. Video should premiere sometime soon apparently...

Poker Face Audio

Loffly. Given the fact 'Just Dance' is being released here in January, I'd expect this to be a single in March or April or summit (if we get that far =\) She's playing the OMO club night at the Astoria in London on the 13th. Do I dare brave it?

Posted by: Tyler 6th September 2008, 07:06 AM

AMAZING CHOICE. This song is amazing.

Posted by: Dan. 6th September 2008, 08:01 AM

Beautiful, Dirty Rich is the next single? It has a video and everything. There's promos everywhere.

Posted by: Trashlexis 6th September 2008, 09:32 AM

Fantastic choice, but JANUARY for Just Dance? mellow.gif OMG sad.gif

Posted by: Jonny 6th September 2008, 10:14 AM

It's quite easily the worst song on the album. It's been said before but it is pretty much 'Just Dance' but with different lyrics and worse.

Posted by: Conor 6th September 2008, 11:04 AM

Bad choice for 2nd single.
BDR is a MUCH better choice, i do like Pokerface but it needs to be released as 3rd or 4th single not in the winter time.

Posted by: Jark 6th September 2008, 11:14 AM

Just to clear up, the US are getting Beautiful Dirty Rich.

Canada and other selected countries, presumably most of Europe including the UK, are getting this.

Personally despite this being my favourite on the album, I'd go with Boys Boys Boys for second because this is just TOO similar to Just Dance to follow it up straight away...

Posted by: Mikal™ 6th September 2008, 12:11 PM

LOVE this... SMASH I hope biggrin.gif

Posted by: gooddelta 6th September 2008, 12:17 PM

ridiculous choice...it's the same song again with different lyrics...what a lazy follow up sad.gif

this happened a lot in the 1990's, Eiffel 65 and ATB spring to mind who released practically identical follow up's to their debut's

and the Max Martin production team of the late 90's were responsible for a LOT of soundalike singles in the 1997-2000 era...a lot of Britney, Backstreet Boys, Robyn and 'N Sync songs from that era sounded practically the same musically

Indeed sad.gif Boys Boys Boys or Beautiful Dirty Rich would be ideal follow-ups, with Pokerface third or fourth single preferably. Then again, if Cascada can get away with it...sleep.gif

They can't these days. tongue.gif

Posted by: Jack 6th September 2008, 01:22 PM

Oh dear, we get ''Just Dance'' in JANUARY?!? mellow.gif sad.gif The same happened with JoJo's ''Too Little Too Late'' too though.

I personally think ''Poker Face'' is a great choice, it should quite easily be a hit I think.

Except Eiffel 65 are talentless. Lady Gaga is absolutely fabulous. wub.gif Great choice, imo.

a copycat follow up is never a great choice for any singer...artists should show their diversity by showing off tracks that sound different to each other

Posted by: Silver Rocket 6th September 2008, 06:15 PM

I do agree that releasing 'Just Dance's sister song as the second single is a tad dodgy. However it's the one everyone seems to rave about the most so shouldn't be a huge deal.

Fantastic song!

Posted by: Jake 6th September 2008, 07:49 PM

I'd hardly say it's an identical copy. Different structure, emotion, tone, feel etc.

The Canadian lot didn't seem to notice either. 'Poker Face' went top 20 on their iTunes chart when the album was released...

Posted by: Jark 6th September 2008, 10:04 PM

Oh come on, the instrumental is very similar...the verses share the exact same melody! It's an almost blatant steal, although it technically isn't because a producer can't steal from themselves. Still, it's uninspired as a second single choice...

Posted by: On Your Shore 7th September 2008, 12:12 AM

Excellent and very smart choice.

Posted by: Silver Rocket 18th October 2008, 01:42 PM

I'm seriously in love with this right now. wub.gif I think I may even like it more than 'Just Dance'. ohmy.gif

Nothing as of now sad.gif.

Love this song, but I'd have had it as 3rd official single (as BDR wasn't really counted)

Posted by: Jark 18th October 2008, 02:25 PM

^What? If you'd have this as 3rd what would you have as 2nd? I don't understand. sad.gif

The vid for this has been done by the same guy who did DC's Soldier, Mel C's Next Best Superstar and more.

Posted by: Ozmead 18th October 2008, 03:11 PM

the setting of the music video will take place in a Casino, Street Party and a Classroom.

Sounds exciting!

Posted by: Silver Rocket 18th October 2008, 04:18 PM

Is this in any way connected to the video?

Posted by: Tyler 18th October 2008, 05:36 PM

The best song on the album easily. I think it should be the third single atleast...I think 'Boys Boys Boys' would be the best song to release in the US.

Posted by: Ozmead 18th October 2008, 06:37 PM

I'd love to see "Summerboy" get a june release!

Posted by: Dannyboy 18th October 2008, 07:18 PM

Posted by: Jark 22nd October 2008, 03:42 PM

Amazing video. The opening scene is almost iconic. Oh god, it's SO good. She's so exciting. wub.gif

Posted by: PeytonDavis 22nd October 2008, 03:52 PM

Oh my... I don't like it.
It sounds like a poorer, less catchy version of "Just Dance" to me.
I really liked Just Dance, too. But this just sounds like a remix of it.
It's all well and good having a "brilliant" video (which I don't think it is) but you can't see videos on radio.

Posted by: Sensitized (Woo) 22nd October 2008, 04:02 PM

I really like the video. Brilliance!
However the song itself just sounds like a rehash of 'Just Dance' but nowhere near as amazing.
Don't really like it at all sad.gif

Posted by: Silver Rocket 22nd October 2008, 04:20 PM

I like this more than 'Just Dance', it's funkier and has such a unique structure to it. wub.gif

Brilliant video, very stylish and classy. I envisaged her dancing on a casino table and throwing chips at guys drooling at her... but I guess she's half got that in one scene. tongue.gif

I agree. Whilst in some ways it is a retool of "Just Dance" it is much better and there deffo is a uniqueness about it

Posted by: Jonny 25th October 2008, 08:26 PM

I think 'Poker Face' is weak compared to the rest of the album. :/

Yeah I agree...I would say Womanizer and Pokerface are on the same level for me. But in Britney's defense she has never released a single that was just terrible IMO...minus the cover for I Love Rock N' Roll, which wasn't bad but just stupid to do when she had so many better songs on that album.

I love Britney Spears more then any other artist, but Lady Gaga is really up there as well. [Britney Spears, No Doubt, Lady Gaga top 3 artists for me].

I might be a bit obsessive with Britney but not blind. tongue.gif

Just Dance is trash and this everything but. It's so much more varied and original than the repetitively dull JD.

One reason I think I prefer this to Just Dance is the lack of Colby O'Donis - he is absolute tack.

I've grown to absolutely love this song recently

I never hated it as such, just wasn't impressed that such a similar sounding song was being released as an immediate follow up to Just Dance

after a few more listens though, other than the sound effects, it's not all that similar, and has a better melody

Posted by: Jarkchild 8th January 2009, 02:31 PM

Well isn't that acoustic performance a DELIGHT? Amazing... she's a proper talent. And SO. MUCH. FUN!

Posted by: Silver Rocket 11th January 2009, 01:43 PM

That's brilliant, shows off her vocal ability and she's put a different spin on her own track. I laughed when she went really wild for the "when there's love, if it's not rough it isn't fun" part. tongue.gif

Posted by: Tom Kay 11th January 2009, 01:47 PM

Yeah, this really works, kind of reminds me of someone like Tori Amos (dunno why though). Anyone who says she can't sing must be pretty embarrassed now!

Her voice is magical. I love this just as much as the original heart.gif

Posted by: Josh 11th January 2009, 08:35 PM

Didn't think she'd be so good! Esp her voice, it's really old fashioned sounding. I still don't like her style (dress/hair style that is) much though.

Posted by: Chris_2k9 11th January 2009, 08:47 PM

Im not sure if I like this, it reminds me a bit of Amy Winehouse which isnt a good thing

Posted by: Shaun 11th January 2009, 11:05 PM

it sorta sounds music theater-ish! i quite like.
Why does she have to hide behind that wig? She looks so odd wearing it.

Posted by: Rena 11th January 2009, 11:08 PM

Hmmm, I dunno. I agree that she sounds like a mix between Amy Winehouse and Christina but im not sure that that is a good thing. And i've always got the vibe about her that she is trying to be too different. And I feel it again here. She can sing though.

Not keen on that accoustic version at all btw, it may be good in the way she shows she's got a very good voice, but I like the electro vibe of 'Pokerface', and this version just ruins it for me smile.gif

Posted by: Jack 12th January 2009, 10:10 PM

I think it's a brilliant version of it, it strips it down and makes it almost a completely different song nearly. Also shows that she has very impressive vocals too, I don't see how this song could 'ruin' the original for you? But each to their own I guess.

I mean it's just a vocal demonstration, and I didn't need it cause I already know she's a very good vocalist with strong abilities. So I just don't click with this version of 'Pokerface' cause the original is far far far better. My opinion smile.gif

LMAO!

It would be astonishing for a newcomer to have 2 #1s in the space of a few months. Very, very, very difficult to do that.

Posted by: Liam-M 19th February 2009, 12:25 AM

Yes, but Lady GaGa is astonishing, she is new new Madonna, a fresh, new, unusual talent that the world has waited years for!

Climbs 2-1 to give Lady GaGa her 2nd consecutive number one in Ireland!

It's had an impressive run in the Top 10 to get there, including being stuck at 2 behind "Just Dance" (which spent 5 weeks at No.1), and she would have knocked herself off the top if it hadn't been for U2 debuting at No.1 last week with "Get On Your Boots". tongue.gif It's chart career thus far has been: 8-5-5-2-2-2-1

Pushed back to the 13th April for its proper release yes.

Posted by: Jack 1st March 2009, 02:52 AM

mellow.gif Why would they want to push it back even further when it looks set to go Top 5 this week?
Kind of pointless.

Posted by: Tyler 1st March 2009, 03:56 AM

I've seriously been listening to Pokerface for almost a year, and it still has not lost it's charm.

Amazing song.

Posted by: Mr Harry 1st March 2009, 12:37 PM

I can understand why they've pushed it back; there are some huge releases in the next few weeks and they must be worried that it'll lose its steam in the meantime. I'm guessing that by the time it comes out it'll be in the lower end of the top ten/higher end of the teens. I think she'll do some promotion around 10th April in hopes that a spurt of downloads and physical sales will push her to number one.

Either way, she's now number three on iTunes and looks set to overtake Taylor before long. Only problem is, is The Saturdays will be moving up throughout the course of today and tomorrow and will probably push it back down by one.

I'm excited to see where she's going to chart today, however! It's going to be very close between herself and T.I.

Posted by: Aaron™ 1st March 2009, 12:57 PM

I think releasing the physical for this will end up like the "Single Ladies" release, in that it wont have any effect. I think it's probably close to peaking over the next week or so and it will be sliding down the charts by mid-April. blink.gif

Posted by: Harve 1st March 2009, 01:02 PM

It still should sell over 250k imo though.

Posted by: Tom Numa Kay 1st March 2009, 01:04 PM

True, I hope. But if they had brought it forward, there may have been a chance at number 1...

Posted by: Mr Harry 1st March 2009, 04:25 PM

As long as she does a fair amount of promotion around the time of release, she can still make it. If she truly is that set on getting number one in the UK (she cried when Just Dance got it) then she'd promote it properly in early April.

Posted by: Mikal™ 1st March 2009, 05:53 PM

No WAY will this peak in the next week mellow.gif

It's only just started getting proper radio and video play. It's got about 3 or 4 weeks before we'll see it peak in sales. Clubs are still orgasming over Just Dance.

In sales, maybe, but I'm just getting the feeling that it will be a big #3. The top end of the chart will be quite crowded with all of these new releases over the next few weeks but "Poker Face" has been available all this time. I don't think it will get a huge spike in sales but it'll consistently sell about 30-35k for the next few weeks.

I hope I'm wrong though, it totally deserves to be a second #1 for her. I just don't think a physical will be worth releasing in 6 weeks time.

Posted by: Mikal™ 1st March 2009, 06:18 PM

Liked the AI performance, but I don't like the long piano intro (I know I know, I must be the only one tongue.gif ).
I like the beat & perfect production of her songs, so when she performs it accoustic, I just don't click with it.

She's so talented, at first I thought she was completely overhyped but the more I've listened to the album over the last year, the more I've realised how quality and how talented she is. You need a billing address in the other country, not that they ever send anything there and either a gift card or a bank account for that country as well.

Think it was a mistake acting the way she did because many people have a preconceived idea that she is up herself and a diva when she's not. This just reinforced their opinion when I've seen many normal interviews where she comes across lovely. Hopefully she's not like that on Paul O'Grady. If she's not careful she will end up a caricature and completely fake.

Hmmm, from just browsing through the comments and not seeing the show myself I'd say:
If she comes across as fake, maybe that's just who she is, I mean covering up coming across as fake is a bit TOO perfect. .? GaGa's quirkyness and originality are main factors when getting to love her and her music. .
But then again I don't know what's going on, but gosh just accept her for her weird moments <3 her music and style is weird anyway and the main reason why we love her.
Some predictable artist like Leona for example won't socialize and do things GaGa does, I think she is being whole heartedly herself with the wig and without it.. I mean she treats even her lunatic jump-on-you type of fans with respect, she is varied in various situation which is why like her songs describe - the paparazzi (media) is intrigued with her

I'm all for quirkyness and originality in her style and performances. She has always been like that but then she has been surprisingly normal and friendly in her interviews which I found very endearing. To me this just screamed of playing up to the image the media has fabricated of her being a 'freak' and I've never seen her act like that in my life.

Posted by: Nightcrawler 17th April 2009, 11:09 PM

To be honest I hid behind a cushion for most of her interview. From the moment Jonathan introduced his guests in the green room I said "uh oh" to my housemate. She looked completely space cadet with her little tea cup and bizarre neck movements. She was incredibly odd throughout the interview and towards the end I felt bad for her as it was as though JR and the audience were mocking her slightly. Once she started giving more than one word answers it got better but I was still waiting for it to be over.

The performance...eesh. Well I've been raving about Gaga to my housemates for months and this is the first chance I've had to watch a performance of hers with them...and I was embarrassed. She was all over the place screaming and generally just sounding like Winehouse when she sings drunk. I really don't know what went wrong with her tonight - normally she performs really well, especially when I've seen her on T4 and MTV - I wonder if it really was "ginger tea" she was drinking or if it was "ginger ale".

Oh, laugh.gif well it is the UK so I don't know what is going on and from her previous interviews etc I can understand the difference but maybe Ryan knows what really happened? ohmy.gif Who was overboard first, what was cut out and what wasn't etc. Perhaps she's bipolar LOL and the host prevokes her to go on highs. .?

Posted by: Ms Keri's Baby 18th April 2009, 02:46 AM

Oh my god. That was her Joss Stone moment! It feels like she might've lost a fair bit of support after that.

The arrangement on Poker Face was good, but her frankly scary grunts and moans were just... not good. Perhaps if she'd wanted to experiment like that she could've done it on tour, but on national TV? It felt like she'd lost the plot. And what made her decide to play up to her freak persona like that in the interview I don't know. What the HELL were the weird neck movements all about?! It felt like she was acting shy too, in an utterly false sort of way, and on top of that she was being totally awkward with one-word answers. 'Are you popular elsewhere? Europe, Japan?' 'Yes'. Just... not a good look.

Posted by: Jonny 18th April 2009, 02:50 AM

It almost felt as if she was told to answer like that. She didn't really give much away, seemed like she was being told what to say (or what not to say). The whole thing was embarrassing to watch at points. Odd anyway. The performance was awful. She ruined her own song.

Posted by: gooddelta 18th April 2009, 07:44 AM

most cringeworthy performance and interview I've ever seen...oh dear, she sounded like a deranged duck rotf.gif

Posted by: JakeWild 18th April 2009, 08:55 AM

i've just watched her performance back on youtube and it's actually quite good when you give it a second listen. i wish i could say the same about that interview though! and what was with the tea? was she trying to be british or something? if so it was a bit patronising..

and what was martin clunes' joke about gay people all about? it was so uncalled for..

Posted by: Aidan 18th April 2009, 09:17 AM

The interview was so awkward. At one part John said something and the audience laughed, and she was about to say 'Why are you laughing?' I felt so bad for her I had to look away at some parts. The performances was great, but the screams were frightening. biggrin.gif

Posted by: spiker 18th April 2009, 10:07 AM

The interview was bad - I don't think they 'got' each other. I liked the performance though.

It certainly won't harm her career.

I quite liked the screaming bits! heehee.gif

Posted by: Scherz 18th April 2009, 10:56 AM

No idea what happened last night, but that's not how she is usually.
At times it looked as if it had been heavily edited, especially the part where she told the story about fogging herself.
I think the mention of the 'rumours' about her being a well endowed man was uncalled for and you could see on her face she was uncomfortable.
I just felt like that questions he asked were stupid and he completely undermined her right from the beginning when he asked what people call her.
After she replied with 'GaGa', he made sure that before every question he asked her, he slipped in "Well, GaGa"... "Yes, Lady GaGa"..."But GaGa"..
And then when she asked him not to make fun of Donatella and he did it anyway, several times... She just looked so uncomfortable.
I'm sure Paul O'Grady will be much better.

You are actually closer to the truth than you think.

Personally I absolutely loved the interview, as a pure artistic statement it more interesting than 99% of Record Company PR controlled to within an inch of their lives puppets popstars on the planet today. Even if it has been all done before.

For those who don't know Lady GaGa's all time favourite artist is David Bowie. Which happens to be the all time favourite artist of Jonathan Ross.

Back in 1974 David Bowie was the biggest new artist on the planet however he generally did not do chatshows much, as he had a rather legendary contempt in the UK when being interviewed by idiots; but equally could be charming, intelligent and graceful when being interviewed by someone who knew there stuff and gave him the respect or humour his talent deserved. However he built up a reputation for shocking people.

One such occasion was his first ever Stateside Prime Time Friday Night interview on the then biggest chatshow in America at the time hosted by Dick Cavett:

David found Dick Cavett's introduction (in the first video) that he thought (as he has said since) "if you want freaky I'll give you freaky" and preceded to give a truly memorable interview, as you will see from the cringeworthy second video.

It is against this background that Ms GaGa and Jonathan Ross have created in my view a "win win" situation for both parties. That will be a "water cooler moment" in offices next week.

Certainly Jonathan Ross was happy with the interview on his Twitter account:

"Am somewhat bemusd by general reaction to Lady Gaga last night! I loved her and thought it was fun, in a deliberately strange way. Oh well.."

"She was cool and funny and I did my Donatella Versace mpersonation for her. Might be cut out though !"

"Lady Gaga performing live ! It was awesome !"

"Yes. IMHO I think one of the best. This week and Lionel Richie/Vin Diesel/MichaelSheen/Sparks have been the best this series smile.gif"

"She was so good wasn't she. Can't wait to see full live show. Had a chat in dressingroom afters - she had on 3rd spectacular outfit."

"She was nice. And funny. i liked her and will have her back on for sure."

Posted by: gooddelta 18th April 2009, 07:42 PM

slightly off topic, but I love the way the CD single of Poker Face has a sticker saying 'the huge #1 single' or something to that effect!

It really didnt help that the audience didnt quite get her and she totally knew most were laughing at her. I was so pissed off with everyones reaction kink.gif

Hmm...I thought she might have been doing something like this. I just don't know if people can get away with doing that these days, pop artists are much more disposable now. Perhaps it wasn't a wise move to do this on her first UK TV interview as the general public wont know how she actually is yet. Only time will tell if it was a good move or if she's shot herself in the foot. It's all good being 'an artist' but you need people to buy your records. He may have been happy with the interview, but it's obviously caused a stir with the public.

Yeah that's all well and good but that was just another thing that annoyed me - JR asked her if she had any inspirations in her look/sound and she said no I'm original. In other interviews she mentioned Bowie and Christina Aguilera, so to say that no one inspired her, to me was quite irritating and did nothing for her to get back into my good books laugh.gif

I actually think she was quite intimidated and nervous. Correct me if I'm wrong, but she hasn't done many TV interviews before. And she didn't quite get Johnathan's humour. In fact, I wondered at points if she understood him at all.

Apart from that, I thought she was bright, sparky and fairly impressive. If she survives another five years in the industry, she will be a brilliant Grace Jones style interviewee then - I hope smile.gif

Well I watched this on youtube and she really has went down in my estimation sadly. I just thought it was pretty pathetic and sad to watch.

It's like she is going all out to try and be different, weird, kooky, eccentric etc and it just come across as a massive farce. She was all those things with her music/lyrics without having to feel the need to give STUPID interviews.

I agree with Etheral nearly ALL the other interviews I've seen her give she has come across as a normal, grounded and nice girl.

Totally shocked by this mellow.gif She's like a different person in this interview, so ignorant and coming across like she's high above. The performance was dire too, I hated the screaming bits. She was obviously trying to make it sound a bit different but it didn't work at all. The whole thing was $h!t basically.

I LOVED the performance wub.gif The arrangement had more guitars and live drumming, so it's only fair she let her rock chick side out. She says about the same things here though, I still think she was intimidated and confused by Jonathan.

I've just seen the interview with Jonathan Ross, and while I think her album is great, she's just too arrogant. I don't find the "artistic" arrogance endearing at all. She said a few predictable controversial lines, but I felt there was very little personality. I haven't seen any of her previous interviews, but she came across as manufactured as any other pop act people will criticise - just with a new spin on it.
I know I'm in the minority, but in comparison, I'd much rather watch Leona's "boring, manufactured" interviews. Gaga was just as boring and predictable.

Those were the only possibilities that Jo gave. As far as the song selection from the artist's point of view goes...I think they're given an extensive list, but can choose their own if they wish, but their choice then has to be approved by someone at Radio 1.

I could forgive GaGa for forgetting some of the lyrics to Viva La Vida, but the frequent "Uh Uh Uh"s in the vocals and the occasional needless shouting rather than singing took away from what could have been a great performance. I think it's the ridiculous intentional stuttering that puts me off Poker Face so much.

I agree. I've gone off JR now. Paul was great!

Posted by: Cisus Christ™ 20th April 2009, 05:39 PM

Now I'm one of GaGa's biggest supporters but SHE was the one who was being a knob on Jonathon Ross. You can't deny that it was her fault it was awkward surely?!

He was trying like Jark said to make her feel welcomed and comftorable. Anyway that looks to have been a one-off-twat-moment so we'll let her off smile.gif

Posted by: RyJ7 20th April 2009, 05:40 PM

I dont think JR was entirely to blame. She clearly wasn't with it much that night. But he did ask some stupid questions and was daft mentioning the man rumour.

Anyway bit OTT to say you've gone off JR over it.

Is her performance not online yet?! Did no-one record it?

Posted by: Ethereal 20th April 2009, 05:51 PM

I think GaGa is mostly to blame because she was being awkward. He didn't help the situation though with some of his questions.

She seemed great on the Jo Whiley & Paul O Grady Interviews.

Awww, she was so sweet on Paul O'Grady. She really reminds me of Debbie Harry from Blondie there, though I think she nicked Grace Jones' hat laugh.gif

Speaking of Grace, I think that the Wossy interview will go down as her Russell Harty moment. It might be controvesial now, but it will add to her mystique and who she is as a character in time smile.gif Wish I could find a link to that on YouTube sad.gif

The Jonathan Ross interview was a bit of a mess, she seemed nervous and defensive. But I bet her PR people warned her about him, some of the things he's done in the past can seem a little inappropriate and she's still young! Loved her Paul O'Grady performance and interview though.

Some LOL Teacup story that's all over the net atm:

QUOTE
Pop Diva Lady GaGa threw a temper tantrum - after losing her favourite teacup. The raunchy Poker Face singer, 23 - who takes the floral cup everywhere - accidently left it with its saucer at a top central London restaurant.
Mystery surrounds why Lady GaGa who performed at February's Brit Awards dressed as a teacup, is fixated with the crockery.
She sipped ginger tea from the cup during Thursday's filming of Friday Night with Jonathan Ross.
Ross welcomed the American - real name Stefani Germanotta - to the sofa saying: "You've brought your tea out in your beautiful teacup".
But just hours later she left it at a restaurant. A source said: "She kicked up a stink and demanded someone get her cup and its saucer back. She wouldn't drink out of anything else. It looked like any other cup and saucer to me and said "Made In China" on the bottom. It seemed a lot of fuss over nothing."
A spokesman for Lady GaGa said: "Lady GaGa does not want to reveal anything about the teacup itself, but drinking ginger tea is very good for singers."

LMFAO at the last bit - not revealing anything about the tea cup - does it have some secret function or is made of terracota or something? laugh.gif
The cup was also apparently returned to her when she was spotted with her favourite cup at Radio 1:

Posted by: Kathh · 21st April 2009, 08:25 AM

I think after all the negativity surrounding the Jonathan Ross interview and performance is now in the dust, she redeemed herself on Paul O' Grady. Absolutely aced the interview and her performance of Viva La Vida I'd rank among her best, so what @ the words slip-up - half the time you can't even make out what Coldplay is saying in their songs anyway..
I think she's receiving quite a bit of disrespect lately, most of the interviews involve the same predictable questions each times - an almost insult to her most of the time. She's over implied as "another trend artist that wont last" and I think this is bound to have an affect on her and it clearly did on Jonathan Ross, there is more behind that interview than we know and now with all the harsh criticism she received from it - she has learnt from her mistakes which is clear from her last interview.
Also a bit disappointing how some of her fans surround their whole impression of her from that interview alone.. A bit harsh and over critical, but I guess it's only a normal response to an artist who is under the limelight atm.

Leona's record is 10,993 spins. I think it'll be be the highest spins in one week in history for pop radio, although I get quite confused with spins and audience and impressions and american radio charts in general so maybe someone can give a more certain answer unsure.gif

I'm just thankful for the one week, thanks for removing Flo iTunes wink.gif

I thought that maybe she'd have another shot one of these weeks as originally BEP's sales were slowing quite fast and Eminem sort of flopped but BEP sales are steadying now and it's too much of a lead for GaGas airplay sad.gif

Ah I know, well a no.1 is still good anyway.. She'd probably have 4 weeks if BEP never released but PF should go 3x Platinum and have a Disturbia-esque chart run which is still pretty darn impressive. PF's at 4 on the digital chart so she should stick another week at no.2 on the hot 100 and maybe challenge next week again

It's so simple, a spin is the term used for a single play on the radio.. So Poker Face has 11000 spins means its been played 11000 times in total on radio stations across the U.S. So if you look on U.S iTunes and the Spins chart you can quite easily predict the Hot 100 because it combines both airplay and sales

Basically spins = plays on radio.
Bullet = Spin increase/decrease

So yesterday it was played on Pop Radio in America 113 times.

For example. If a song was spun 200 times in its first day and then the second day it had 100 spins, it's bullet would be -100 because it LOST 100 spins from the previous day.

Side/note: It's the biggest Pop Radio hit... ever as well. Leona held the record with 10093 spins before. So WOO

Posted by: Ethereal 1st May 2009, 03:48 PM

Lady Gaga Loves Kanye West's Take On Poker Face

The unstoppable Lady GaGa has spoken about her excitement over Madonna's attendance at one of her shows in New York, but she has also been winning over some unlikely fans in the hip-hop world. Common and Kanye West collaborated on a a song loosely based on Gaga's "Poker Face," which took the meaning of the song to a totally different level.

"It's funny, because a lot of my fans were like, 'Gaga, Kanye wrote a song ... and it's not about what your record's about'" she told MTV. "Your record is about gambling. And this song is about dirty sexy things." But it turns out that Kanye has unique insight into how Gaga's mind works and has implicitly understood her intentions behind the song.

"I said to them, 'You're wrong. Kanye was right," she said.
"That's exactly what this song is about. The record is about how I used to fantasize about women when I was with my boyfriend. It was, like, really exciting that he had so much insight into what the song was about. He's a cool guy."
