Saw this, so excited hopefully a new album is on it's way!!! Looks like she is sticking with the dance / electronic route for the next era.

Posted by: Jessie Where 17th August 2022, 10:34 AM

I looooved the last album, I'd welcome a continuation of it in some form.

Posted by: tommie 17th August 2022, 11:03 AM

I hope she writes some more songs about how she's better off independent and self-empowerment!

For real though, I do hope she continues to progress. Her last album was a good step up musically in some ways, lets hope it is not just a re-tread of Who I Ams and Here I Ams pirate.gif

“[Solo music has] had to take a bit of a backseat because writing and promoting the book has been a lot more work than I anticipated,” Melanie reveals. “But I’ve done some sessions, there are some new songs and I’ve begun the process for the next album. Back in the day there was this cycle of writing, recording, promoting, touring. Technology has changed so much that now it feels like you can do everything at the same time. And music is my passion. Doing a book has been fun but if it keeps me away from music for too long I’m gonna get a bit bitter about it.”

Good for her! At least she is doing something. I don't think I will bother to buy it this time (buy this time teresa.gif ) but I will stream it when it comes out

Posted by: -Jay- 17th January 2023, 01:43 AM

Number of weeks between Melanie C's albums (in terms of album releases dates, not when her album eras actually began):

53 weeks - The Sea to Stages
103 weeks - Beautiful Intentions to This Time
109 weeks - Reason to Beautiful Intentions
177 weeks - Northern Star to Reason
206 weeks - Version of Me to Melanie C
215 weeks - Stages to Version of Me
231 weeks - This Time to The Sea

We're approaching the 121st week since Melanie C came out. If Album 9 is released in 2023 it'll be the fourth shortest wait between album releases by her.

Does anyone remember a story she posted on Instagram a while ago? She was in the studio recording music for the new album. I remember the music was very electronic. I loved it. It will definitely be a single. Did someone save the story?

Excited for this !!

She was in the studio also with Biff and One Bit.

To be fair, most of her music was meandering for so long, I dont count most of her albums as real music, just try outs tongue.gif

Just kidding, I dont care. Good for her I guess teresa.gif Who is Rose Gray?

Posted by: -Jay- 15th June 2023, 12:07 PM

She's a singer! Dance genre, a flavour of 90s dance. Should be a good fit with Mel!

Posted by: Blond 2.0 15th June 2023, 04:43 PM

Amazing btw I love all of her albums but I'm glad she's into dance music

does it?.... I just listened to some of her music online and frankly I dont see it. Good for Melanie though x

There was me thinking "didn't she already collaborate with Rose Grey on the last album?" before realising that was actually Nadia Rose tearsmile.gif

I can't keep up, honestly!

Posted by: dancinqueen 16th June 2023, 06:59 AM

Melanie is a music vampire. She likes to be inspired by Gen Z artists and collab with them.
As far as we know, there are many women involved in this record. Don’t remember the name of the others, one is a DJ and the other an electo-indie songwriter.

Melanie is in Stockholm working with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teddybears_(band). musicnote.gif

Posted by: tommie 24th August 2023, 09:38 AM

That could be a good / interesting fit for her actually - especially if they manage to marry that electronica / dance sound with rockier / frantic sensibilites.

Posted by: Padamic Tension 29th August 2023, 12:23 AM

Mel looks incredibly Sporty Spice in that photo.

Posted by: -Jay- 30th August 2023, 09:52 PM

The success of the Claire Richards album makes me wonder if Melanie could pull off a Top 5 or Top 3 herself thinking.gif

She definitely can if she plays her cards right. However, she tends to pick super competitive release weeks in Q4.

Posted by: pippa 31st August 2023, 11:54 PM

It is very achievable for Mel to pull off the same as Claire and achieve a Top 3 album.

Claire has a label behind her which makes a difference. However since Mel last released the multi format thing has gone to another level. The cheap multiple cassettes and signing everything. The midweek massive price cuts (though this might be more difficult for Mel as it is her own money). The store exclusive extended digital editions released midweek.

There is defo more she can take advantage of now to get a higher chart position.

Posted by: Melancholia 1st September 2023, 10:19 AM

The last album was so strong and the goodwill pushed it. #8 was huge for her.

She can easily achieve a bit higher, alternate CDs with different artwork, signed editions, personalised editions, digital options etc.

Posted by: Babyboy 1st September 2023, 10:22 AM

Well, I'd like to see longevity to be honest. Just one week in the top 100 is the target for a lot of artists like Melanie, Claire, Natalie Imbruglia...

Posted by: sammy01 1st September 2023, 01:11 PM

To potentially get longevity she would have to go completely left field and do something completely new that no one would think of when thinking of Melanie C.

As much as most of her music isn't for me Kylie has had the balls to do that seemingly with her latest album. She was very much stuck in safe Kylie zone for the last few albums but the gamble is defo paying off with the change.

It’s #1 in the Independent Albums chart!

Having your own label ≠ being on an independent label.

I'm aware of that.

I responded to Babyboy's comment that said "Claire is indie" as if to suggest that she does not have a label backing her.

I thought we were talking about a major. She was under Sony for her first album, so she had a label behind her.
An indie one is limited as for budget.

So that means Claire did very well charting at #2 without a major.

Yes but my point is that being just on an 'indie' label means very little, XL were throwing millions behind Adele for 21.

Posted by: -Jay- 2nd September 2023, 01:31 PM

Were they though? Her music videos were quite basic. I’d say the budget notably increased for 25.

Despite Claire having a label backing there was only 116 copies difference between Melanie C and Euphoria first week sales. If Melanie can manage similar first week again, she could actually have a shot at #1 in the right week! Could you imagine, a solo spice #1 album it would be unreal (and out of the top 100 the following week lol)

Yes hopefully but not with such a cringy release as Claire. Her 2nd album was awful compared to the first. Full of cheesy, uninspiring cover versions which were so forgettable.
