BuzzJack Music Forum _ Spice Girls _ Your 2024 Predictions: Group & Solo

Posted by: Mr.X 22nd January 2024, 12:00 AM

So... here we are again at the beginning of a new year in Spice World yahoo.gif

Gather around girlies and let's get annalysing and predicting what might happen and what we can forget about in year of Our Lord Baby Spice 2024 teresa.gif

Last year was a bit forgettable in Spice World, with mostly Mel C being active in music, Bunton taking care of her nappy business, Mel B doing bits and bobs on TV and Gerita going into children's books again. For the group though, it was not necessarily a let down as we weren't really expecting much but damn nocheer.gif

But that is by the by! We start the year with some indications that a potential group project, with all 5 Spice Girls involved for once, is going to be announced soon. Those are not just rumours though, as Mel B has mentioned it as confirmed and about to be announced and Mel C and Emma also dropping hints of something to come. Even Geri has mentioned she would be up to do 'something' and was up for the idea of a Glastonbury and group celebration...

So what is it?? May we have the privilege to DARE expect anything, after so many years of wanting and be promised? Mel B said is was going to be 'the gift that keeps on giving' this year!!

SPICE GIRLS

The year started off great in the form of the Spice Girls announcing a partnership with Royal Mail for a high-quality and reputable series collection of stamps! Then, the British Music Experience museum announced a major retrospective of the group's career, to boot! Both are being labelled as a celebration of their 30years in the business, and it seems like this is the big marketing for this year. More celebrations!

Then Mel C invited Emma for a new live rendition of Viva Forever and later the Appleton sisters for a group rendition of 2 Become 1.

So far, not bad! It is shapping up to be an important year for the band. Mel B even said it will be 'the gift that keeps on giving'

So as far as we know ALL FIVE of the Spice Girls are apparently doing something together. We know a documentary is in the works by a successful Hollywood team, and it has been shopped around, with various confirmations that is being made.

We expect them to announce it soon. Beyond that and more merchandise, I don't see anything in the vein of a tour or music (even a Greatest Hits) being announced anytime soon, sadly...

Could we expect something else from them? And what do you want the document to be like?

MELANIE C

Melanie has been in and out of the studio for the past few months, and seems to be gearing up for a new record or at least a single. She will be doing some live shows here and there too as she keeps doing the rounds. I would expect some more summer shows to be announced soon.

Plus, this is the year her Northern Star album turns 25years old. After a couple of re-releases on vinyl these past couple of years, what do you think we can expect for the iconic album's celebrations?

EMMA BUNTON

There are some rumours that a Free Me re-release for the stunning, iconic, legandary, gay-rights album on vinyl next month to celebrate it's 20th anniversary. This would break the Spice World fandom really! hell, they might even put the album on international streaming platforms teresa.gif

Not expecting much more from Emma beyond that to be honest. I'd love her to do more music but....

Probably more nappies?... pirate.gif

GERITA

Book #2 from her Rosie Frost series is to be released in the autumn. Can we expect anything else?...

MEL B

Probably more TV work, interviews/actions for Women's Aid and some adverts? I can't imagine much more from her, sadly...

VICKY BEX

IS THIS THE YEAR VICKY WILL FINALLY BE BACK IN THE GROUP??? Obviously don't ever expect her to be back with a mic to sing on a stage, but what do you see her doing this year beyond her fashion and beauty brands?

Some more David butt pics on instagram?? cheer.gif

Only Mel C LOL like always funky.gif

Spice Girls -

This will be the year they pull it together. The documentary will make them super hot property and a tour will finally get announced. Loads of money making tie ins.

Mel C -

Singles released but not an album. Fitting in festivals where she can.

Emma -

Free Me vinyl and her streaming sorted out for its anniversary. Another Christmas single.

Geri -

Nothing much as I don't see the 2nd book coming out so soon. I have a feeling she might decide to launch a podcast.

Mel B -

More TV work

Victoria -

Her involvement with the documentary will be her Spice Girls duties done. So another year of posting women who are anorexic in bog standard clothes on her insta and using half naked videos of her husband to get social media interest.

I'd love it if your optimism about a future tour turns out to be the reality but this is the Spice Girls we're talking about sammy... even if they get to be super hot property again, I bet one of them (Geri) will want to do something else instead and it will all fall apart again... teresa.gif

Doubt Emma will have a Christmas single out... there was nothing this year from her at all, and she was talking about booking venues. Plus, she is not particularly known for being a 'Christmas stapple'... she tried, bless her. but I would rather she do something else. She's a good writer for music, she could try and write more for other artists.

Geri's second book is confirmed for this year dry.gif

SPICE GIRLS
The documentary could be the only concrete project, better than nothing. The stamps are a nice surprise to start this 2024.

EMMA
I have the impression that she is a bit lost with her career. She could do more music.

MELANIE B
She is starting again with TV projects but they bore me. She has a lot of potential to do something bigger.

MELANIE C
New music, hopefully a new full album.

GERI
A second Rosie book? I have still to start the first

VICTORIA
I'm not interested in her fashion career to be honest.

Posted by: spiceboy 27th January 2024, 12:25 PM

I foresee…

Spice Girls
A documentary which gives them a temporary boost and sees the GH re-chart. They can’t get their shit together to actually release an unreleased, live or re-release of GH so nothing else happens.

Melanie C
A new album this year, she does the festival circuit again and sells tickets to her own 2025 tour.

Geri
The second Rosie Frost book is released she does another promo run for it. She might also pop up in a TV show or film randomly in a small part ala the Racing film she was in.

Mel B
She continues with her TV career, possibly replacing one of the AGT judges on the main show and potentially becoming a judge in a UK or AUS show. Potential presenting gig on something too. She also continues to raise awareness for her women’s shelter charities.

Victoria
She continues with her fashion empire, another collection is released and she does a tie in with another make up brand to build on that side of the business. Possibly moves into shoes.

Emma Bunton
Nothing of any real interest, she seems the most lost in her career has no real angle at the moment. She will do an Instagram post for Free Me anniversary and continue to push her Kit n Kin brand.

What I would like (within realms of fantasy realistic chance lol)

Spice Girls
The documentary comes out and the girls use it as an opportunity to launch tickets for a stadium world tour with all 5 for the “final hurrah!” They cover territories they haven’t before including Asia and Australia before going back to the USA, Europe and ending in the U.K. with dates in major cities ending at Wembley. They do their final performance at Glastonbury cementing themselves as touring legends as well as pop icons. They released an unreleased album in a quiet week with multiple variants including individual covers and go to #1 and they end the year with a Christmas song which becomes a top 10 hit for them and a staple Christmas song. They end on a high once and for all as a five piece.

Melanie C
She used the Spice Girls publicity to launch her 9th album a greatest hits and releases tickets for a Northern Star 25th anniversary tour towards the end of the year when the Spice Girls tour is over. The greatest hits becomes her 4th top 10 album and manages a grand total of 2 weeks in the charts!!! As the Spice Girls tour ends she also releases her 10th album a new studio album which becomes her third top 5 and manages 3 massive weeks in the charts with 2 in the top 40!!! She releases tickets for a small European tour supporting the album which also manages top 20 positions in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden and even hits #1 in Portugal becoming her second #1 album there! Towards the end of the year it’s announced that a new search for west end star show (ala Superstar) is coming in 2025 and Melanie will be a judge plus one of the main roles. It gets her a second Lawrence Olivier nomination in 2025.

Geri
Geri re-releases Schizophonic for its 25th anniversary with a vinyl CD and cassette release. It has some unreleased tracks on it as well as the B-Sides. It goes top 40 for a week. After the tour she launches Rosie Frost which appears on a couple of best sellers list. She also has a greatest hits release which includes singles and some planned releases / fan favourites and Man on the mountain as a bonus CD. It goes top 20 for one week.

Emma
She re-releases Free Me on vinyl (and CD / cassette). It goes too 75 for a week. Once the tour is over pre-orders go up for a Christmas album “My Happy Christmas” and she announces dates for a small U.K. tour to tie in with it. The album is a mix of Motown / Phil Spector classic Christmas songs and some new tracks including some duets ala My Happy Place. Emma talks about how much she loves Christmas etc in interviews and teases about potential new music with stories of the recording studio being her favourite place. The album goes top 10 and persuades her to go back into the studio for a full studio album in 2025.

Mel B
She gets given a permanent role on Americas got talent again which she takes. After the tour there is a new talent show launched in the U.K. and shred a judge / mentor role. It’s a semi big hit and she gets a limited run chat show for a channel. She is also randomly featured on a song which manages a few weeks too 75 but more due to the other artist not her. Nethertheless we are all delighted and convinced she will relaunch her solo career. Instead she announces she is doing Australian BGT!

Victoria
She continues her fashion career after the tour ends putting it behind her once and for all. In 2025 she randomly appears on a Calvin Harris track which goes to #1 and everyone is gobsmacked. 😂 The girls are now the only band ever to have all their members achieve a solo #1 single.

Geri really should give it a couple of years before the next book. There will of course be less interest in a 2nd book especially in the US. I felt for 'Rosie' there seemed to be an interest in her, what she looked like and was like now as most casual US fans probably hadn't seen from her in a lot of years.

That 'oh look Geri, haven't seen her in years' interest will have gone.

I have the book in my classroom and so far 7 children have read it, they have all asked if I will get the second one as they really want to read the follow up. She would be silly to leave it a couple of years and have those children grow up and forget about it.

I've never read the Harry Potter books, how long were they between releases?

Did it do well with kids though or gays buying 3 or more copies each?

Posted by: Blond 2.0 28th January 2024, 02:51 AM

They should do another GH with some old unreleased tracks

More of the same from each other after 2019.
It's been 30 years since they formed in 1994.
Apparently the animation project has not been completed and discontinued.

Yeah my predictions just went down to 'nothing' as of today

Posted by: Anita Hanjaab 1st February 2024, 06:13 PM

Book massively flopped, even though it eas ghost written, so no, she won't be asked to do more. Shakrspeare, she's not!! She fell out with Mel B over wearing white, so the group is history again.

Posted by: sammy01 1st February 2024, 10:16 PM

I'm sure the documentary is so far down the line now that it will happen but it will feel Viva Forever like. I can even see a big premier with a red carpet, Geri turns up with Christian, Emma, Mel and Mel turn up together and Victoria turns up late alone.

Honestly you cant believe they are all basically 50 and still so immature and full of ego.

Posted by: Blond 2.0 2nd February 2024, 01:55 AM

I think it's over for them as a group they've wasted so much time and years and nobody cares about them but us a few fans

Posted by: Mr.X 2nd February 2024, 09:56 AM

Let's be honest here, the Spice Girls continue to be a hot topic whatever they do as a group. People do care whenever they do or announce anything. If they were to tour or release new music, they would definitely have the world watching/listening/attending.

The fact they might be 'over' is only their own doing. THEY keep falling out or not being interested. The public and the press have not been as Spice-friendly since 1998.

Posted by: sammy01 2nd February 2024, 11:25 AM

Yeah it isn't the demand for the Spice Girls isn't there, especially with things like touring but when two members are Victoria and Geri who have lost all touch with reality then nothing will happen.

Posted by: -Jay- 4th May 2024, 03:40 PM

Well we're a third of the way through the year, has anything come true for you guys so far? Also I forgot to respond to this thread back when it started drama.gif

No predictions about a reunion at Victoria's 50th... and interestingly I see a lot of "Free Me on vinyl" predictions but we got A Girl Like Me instead laugh.gif

Posted by: Mr.X 4th May 2024, 04:08 PM

I'll take the A Girl Like Me celebration vinyl, at least we got *something* from Bunton, damn...

Group wise, if the Documentary doesnt come this year, then I think it is truly over.

Spice Girls:

Jack sh1t!

Mel B:

TV stuff and promising SG stuff for attention.

Mel C:
Boring DJ stuff.

Geri:
Wearing more White clothes.

Vikki:
Another lipstick that no one can afford.

Emma:
Radio stuff and more nappies.

Not sure if they have played before.

Mel C new album is taking forever and I really want another album from Emma

Posted by: Mr.X 17th June 2024, 08:16 PM

Well... we are half way through the year, so may as well update the original predictions right?

SPICE GIRLS

After what seemed like a promising start with release of the very prestigious stamps, the British Music Experience exhibition and the expectation of a documentary including all 5 of them, it seems like we are back to quase 0 after Mel B and Geri have seemingly fallen through AGAIN. We had a sliver of hope when all 5 turned up to Victoria's birthday celebrations and surprised us all with a now infamous picture - the first since 2018 - and a couple of low-quality phone videos being posted on instagram of them singing bits of Stop and Mama.

Then, a news report about them potentially having booked a Stadium in Australia was posted online, and few Aussie news agencies and newspapers took it up.

But then Mel B went on stage in Manchester during a talk and pretty much admitted that she and Geri are not in good terms right now. She seemed to confirm that there were no plans either. In her Rosie Frost campaign Gerita has also pretty much dismissed any Spice-related project as she is focused on her childish books, leaving us all in cold water AGAIN.

And sadly, David Beckham just last week poored cold water in any rumours and it looks like it is all back to 0 again.

The expectation as far as we know now, is that not even the documentary is going to be released since no-one has heard anything about it since last year...

MELANIE C

Plenty of one-off gigs here and there and a DJ tour in Australia. Is still recording and some fans mentioned she said to them that album probably next year instead of this year

Performed again at Glastonbury, this time as a guest of Orbital

EMMA BUNTON

We had heard NOTHING about Emma's music or any projects outside of Kit & Kin but then Spring came and BOOM!

A surprise vinyl release for A Girl Like Me which sold out its initial run.

AND apparently she has been recording with an orchestra in Budapest, Hungary, with an accompagnying video seemingly being shot by the same director who did Too Much video.

Whilst we've had no word from Emma or official sources, a couple of pictures have surfaced with her and orchestra members, as well as a picture with her and the video director. Emma is wearing a red dress and Fans speculate that she might be preparing to release a Christmas album later this year. After her previous Christmas-related initiativies flopped, I wonder how this wil go? A full orchestra is attached to this, so might be a bit of budget thrown her way.

We might indeed have a new Bunton era approaching, at least. For me, in the absense of any interest in music or touring from the group, this is the best news so far (even though I am only slightly interested, more amused than anything, at her doing a Christmas era.... jesus f***ing christ....)

MEL B

Apart from a re-release of her book Brutally Honest, it seems like Mel is in a bit of a career stagnation. Her show Masked Singer Australia has been cancelled, and as far as we know she only has GoggleBox booked in coming up.

GERITA

She's gearing up to a new Rosie Fro---Honestly who f***ing cares? She's doing crap children's books, she's gone all Tory-Fascist party support and landed gentry brown nosing, and because of this we're not getting a Spice reunion this year or probably anytime soon....

That's all folks cool.gif

Let's be honest she could do every year as a guest for an artist as long as she performs a Spice Girls track.

She obviously is aiming to get a solo spot on a bigger stage !!!

She probably could, I reckon she would also be able to do When you're gone as a guest.

I'm not sure any of the other girls would be invited to do it though, again it's because of the leg work she has put in that none of the others have, credit to her.

Glastonbury is filled with artists now who a Melanie C doing a Spice Girls song with them would fit nicely and give them both more exposure. The gays would love a Sugababes x Melanie C duet doing say Viva Forever.

Posted by: Mr.X 1st July 2024, 10:14 PM

Good for her, but it is Spices or nothing for me in terms of interest! And she is right, having the Spice Girls headlining would be the ideal.

I could see her getting a slot for the next album promotion tour though, for sure. She did well last time doing her own slot so it could make sense

Posted by: vibe 2nd July 2024, 06:14 AM

They have to do the legends slot but instead of having weeks to prepare make sure they have a few months making everyone (Geri) confident !!!!

Posted by: Mr.X 2nd July 2024, 11:07 AM

I think they could (and should) pull off the main slot, personally. I understand that people easily see them at the legends slot, but they are a stadium touring force, and a girlband headlining the main headline slots would be just incredible and unique. And they are the group to do it!

Posted by: -Jay- 2nd July 2024, 03:47 PM

I just don’t see Glastonbury headliner for them. I think their years of inactivity kind of goes against them for consideration of top billing? That’s before we get into the demographics of the Glastonbury crowds and their tastes / expectations for headliners.

Headliners have either been modern/currently huge acts (Dua Lipa, SZA, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, Stormzy, Ed Sheeran) or established artists with a very deep back catalogue and who are more consistently present over the years (Coldplay, Elton John, Guns N’ Roses, Arctic Monkeys, Paul McCartney, The Killers, The Cure, Radiohead, Foo Fighters - and yes it doesn’t escape my attention that all of these artists are male!).

I’m convinced that Legends would come across as being more of a comfortable fit for Spice Girls, and something that would be met with positivity from the public/critics. It would definitely be a seal of approval for a legendary girl group, without throwing them in at the deep end as being a headliner (which may not be framed with the same positive reaction). Legends slot is arguably less pressure than headlining, but still a very respected slot which usually gets a great amount of attention, sometimes on par with or even exceeding the reaction to the headliners.

I mean at this point it’s a struggle to see them getting their act together for any slot drama.gif It feels like it ought to have already happened. If Glastonbury really is something that has been offered to them in recent years, then what are they waiting for? I fear that Victoria and Geri are not only against lengthy reunions but even stuff like this.

Posted by: Mr.X 2nd July 2024, 03:53 PM

Glastonbury works differently. They are absolutely at the level where they could do a headline slot, and they would absolutely be triumphant on it. There is an expectation for that, specially if they do it at the end of a tour or something like that. The legends slot is iconic, but they are above acts that have been playing it over the past few years in terms of the expectation around it!

When it comes to Geri and Victoria, well... it is a given that Victoria wont do it. Geri might... They just need to play their cards right on that one...

I think it is also time for both Mels to stop saying that they want Victoria to do it as well. It's not fair on anyone and they have more than proven that they can be a stadium tour de force without her. That's enough.

I really don’t think they’re at that level, and that’s a result of their own choices tbh (to firmly be a part-time legacy act, only reuniting briefly every few years & without new music).

If they currently had like 9 albums and had released 6 of them over the last couple of decades, toured every album, and be considered as a mostly active group like Coldplay etc are - then sure, headlining at this point could have seemed natural, and even long overdue. But none of the headliners I mentioned had their last album be from 24 years ago. None of them have only toured twice this century, barely amounting to 4 months of being on tour.

I mean, even the legends slot tends to be artists who are still actively releasing, even if it’s mostly their old classics that are in demand.

Spice Girls are in an extremely privileged and almost unique position to continually be able to rest on the laurels of material that is now 24-28 years old… but I don’t think that stretches to viably headlining Glastonbury.

We’ll have to agree to disagree!

Posted by: sammy01 2nd July 2024, 06:01 PM

Oh they could headline no problem and it would be a massive success. What non current acts that headline Glastonbury need is 5 or 6 instantly recognisable sing-a-long songs that a drunken British crowd of 20 to 50 something year olds would know.

Jay is right that it normally takes a couple of decades of releasing music to build up those 5 or 6 songs but Wannabe, 2 become 1, WDYTYA, Spice up your life, Stop and Mama are those songs. Each would have the crowd in full voice in a massive sing-a-long. Throw in some great visuals and costumes and the lure of seeing Posh Spice up actually on stage and it would be one of the biggest headliners ever.

Posted by: spiceboy 2nd July 2024, 06:48 PM

Jay never said they couldn't do it but that they wouldn't be likely to be asked to do it and may face a more negative reaction as a headliner than in the legends slot.

If Kylie wasn't asked to headline and was put in the legends slot despite having continually released for 40 years, had #1 albums and top 10 singles in 4 consecutive decades, had more hits and sold more records... then Spice Girls are hardly going to be asked to headline with their 11 singles, 3 albums, and sporadic intervals of being an active group... in reality they haven't been a proper active group since 1998 as Forever was a few week job and the two tours being literally a few months. Flogging merch and doing adverts isn't something Glastonbury would be interested in.

It's all a moot point anyway because it is clearly never going to happen, they can't get their acts together to do something that would only make them even more legendary and make them all more money in terms of streams, a potential GH re-release, merch, profiles for solo ventures etc etc etc. Think about it Melanie C and Emma could release more music, they would be invited on all chat shows across the world, Victoria could do a 'Glastonbury' special t-shirt or tote bag and so on...

Posted by: sammy01 2nd July 2024, 08:21 PM

Kylie has never to my knowledge played stadiums in the UK, the Spice Girls did a 13 date stadium tour with a member down.

Kylie also never stops performing so it isn't a OMG Kylie she hasn't performed in 13 years like it would be with a Spice Girls featuring Victoria.

You are right though I doubt their egos will let it happen.

At least we can agree on something.

While you're right about Kylie not playing stadiums she would certainly appeal more to the casual Glastonbury fan than Spice Girls would. They have more hardcore fans for sure, but Kylie has a broader catalogue for a wider casual appeal. Glastonbury is not for the hardcore fans, the tickets go on sale before the announcement anyway so the liklihood is tons won't have them.

Glastonbury is not for the hardcore fans, the tickets go on sale before the announcement anyway so the liklihood is tons won't have them.

I think you have that the wrong way round. Kylie has the rabid hardcore fans who buy everything multiple times. As for the Spice Girls they are the ultimate casual GP fan band. You don't sell 700k concert tickets unless you can tap into a mass of casual fans who just want to see them in real life and relive their childhood.

All those drunk women at SW19 aren't hanging on to any news or merch or buying Spiceworld25, but they will be there the moment they step on stage.

Yeah I think this is very right. Spice Girls headlining would be A STORY that people would latch on to and go just because of them. Kylie is amazing dont get me wrong. But she is not on the level of the Spice Girls when it comes to this.

But yes, we all agree that their own egos would stop them from doing it, sadly... That's the real story of the Spice Girls: killed by egos since 1998...

It is also why we have had 489,109 different t-shirts because those casual fans who are mainly women will drop £20 on a t-shirt to wear at Claire's hen party or at a bottomless brunch for Sandra's birthday.

And gay men... the amount of gay men I know whom I never thought were particularly 'fans' but have at least a tshirt they wear out... it's wild and you can see why there are so many available dry.gif they sell....

Spice Girls missed an opportunity not releasing a Live album of the last tour.
They easily could have achieved another Top 5 album and extending their discography.

^ a live album lol

The one in 1998 never materialised.

They didn't even film the 2007 tour which received negativity and did it again in 2019 !!

If they had released one in 1998 they probably would have had another #1 album to their name and it wouldn’t have cost them any effort the stadium dates themselves would have been plenty of promo for it at their peak, combined with a single release with your footage of NGUOTGT they would have been laughing all the way to the bank!

This for me was the biggest missed opportunity at the time. It would have been amazing and solidified them 4-piece

I was sure they would release a live album and its odd that they didnt, like you say it would have cost them nothing.

They actually do a lot for helping the artist establish themselves as a live act, and it is a thing of artistic merit to release one.

So what if it doesnt set the charts on fire? It is about the body of work and would be most helpful.

ONE THING that I just thought about this is that if they had released one back in 1998, they certainly would have had to do much more than their main hits and the odd album track from Spice or Spiceworld in any consequent tours.

As a nostalgia act now, it certainly doesnt bode well for them to release one if they ever intend to do any more nostalgia driven tours... blink.gif Otherwise, they would have to seriously re-think their set lists or release more music so that they provide something different to their standard of doing live shows without new music pirate.gif

They really put themselves into a corner with this nostalgia crap hey?....
