BuzzJack Music Forum _ Spice Girls _ Solo careers, are you still interested?

Posted by: sammy01 19th February 2024, 09:47 PM

I have completed checked out of them solo wise, I just have no interest in most of their solo careers now. I often think to myself if that was an artist I have zero care for, say Robbie Williams, how would I view it. Like if Robbie released a childs book, nappies or was DJing I'd think that is a bit naff he must be struggling

The only thing I still will consider buying or listening to is music. Though even that is becoming stale, two NS vinyls, My happy place vinyl and A girl like me vinyl all offering nothing new bar being on vinyl or a different colour.

How do you feel towards their respective solo careers these days?

I agree with you I have very little interest in the girls nowadays. The baby books, talent show judging, fashion and DJing doesn’t appeal to me at all.

I did however genuinely enjoy Geri’s new book and put them (I got a second free one from Amazon as my first was left out in the rain but then it dried out fine oops) in my classroom reading area, where it has been read by quite a few of my class members have loved it too.

Melanie C’s live shows will always appeal to me I always have a blast at them and of course when she releases her next album I will be supporting it all the way. I wouldn’t attend anymore Xmas shows for Emma though twice is enough, however I’d purchase a Christmas album if she did one, covers and all. I am also up for purchasing the vinyl versions of albums and I wish Melanie C would release hers on her website!

Nope.

After the 2019 they had so much potential for more touring and there was even talks about music (both Emma and Mel C hinted at this being a possibility) but instead, they all went back to their meandering solo careers again and here we are now, back at 0.

I soured on them solo wise a long while ago, and since the Return tour, where it was obvious that they weren't a group anymore, I lost interest in most solo ventures because I saw them as distractions that I didn't care about. I kept some interest in Emma's career and Mel C's too, even buying their latest albums, and attending Emma's shows. Mel C also released an ok album so that kept up my interest for a while.

But then, since it all got squandered again after 2019 in favour of solo projects again, Im sorry but I even re-evaluated my relationship with Emma and Mel C's music. I don't care for their latest projects.

My Happy Place and the Christmas shows were really bad attempts at trying to establish her as some kind of Christmas and covers pop act. It fell flat, because it was flat. Mel C released her best album in a decade, but even then it was mostly meandering crap. And I have no interest in seeing her live anymore, it just doesnt excite me.

So Im done with longing or even supporting them as solo artists. If some release is interesting (say Free Me on vinyl, or even an edition of A Girl Like Me with new unreleased stuff to it) I might consider it. If they release some music, I will have an interest in listening to it to check it out but if it is not good, I don't bother buying or listening again.

Yes, I will admit that a lot of my bitterness to their solo projects has a lot to do with their lack of interest in the group. But that's where I am at nowadays

Nope, I'm only interested in getting more stuff from the vaults. If they tour again, then, I will attend. Oher than that, no interest in their solo careers at all. If Emma, Victoria, or Geri (or even MEl B) releases their old materials on vinyl, I'll buy them.

This, I agree. I'm not here a lot for solo releases in general, but thinking now about it, I would TOTALLY buy a vinyl of Victoria's album. For sure, purely because of the novelty of a VB vinyl in this day and age but also because I thought that album was actually really great. But that will never happen so my coins are safe lol

Other than that and what I explained before, forget it.

I don't feel bitter towards the group because of solo projects like Mr X. My annoyance at the group is more that they are doing this ridiculous thing where the social media posts as if from them and they are an active band and they flog merch like an active band. If they aren't active and don't want to work as Spice Girls just have some dignity and shut it all down. I'd honestly prefer nothing than what they are doing right now.

Solo wise I'm just at a position where I have realised I don't need to force myself to support solo projects I really have no interest in. I don't owe them anything and even music wise I have other artist I can get much better music from constantly than any of them solo wise.

With regard solo projects Melanie C is the only member I have an interest in.
