According to the Release Schedule, Kimberley is due to release her solo album on 4th February.

Rumours are floating around that it will be released through Decca, which is a classical label...

Posted by: Liаm 4th November 2012, 06:05 PM

The name makes me think something like Melanie C's Stages, a cover album of theatre songs.

Kimberley was always my least fave though so I'm not bothered laugh.gif

Posted by: THEO. 4th November 2012, 06:23 PM

Oh gosh, haha! It'll be interesting to hear, but I'm not too sold on the idea. Then again, I've still not seen Shrek: The Musical, so don't even know those songs!

Posted by: Carlos V 4th November 2012, 06:36 PM

Are they even going to give a f*** about the reunion? Sarah is also doing a solo album...

Posted by: Lukuzz 4th November 2012, 08:09 PM

Lol! Bit of a random time to release it, like 2 weeks before the GA tour begins, on the other hand I'm all for a Kimba album!

Posted by: dannjohn3 4th November 2012, 10:01 PM

Can they do side projects as well as GA?

Yeah, she was my least favourite too. Although I would still be interested to see what she can come up with, but I doubt it will come anywhere near the perfection of Nicola's debut album! wub.gif

Posted by: gooddelta 4th November 2012, 10:31 PM

I echo the Kimberley indifference;

1. Nadine
2. Nicola
3. Cheryl
4. Sarah
5. Kimberley

Has been my GA ranking from pretty much day one, and in terms of their role in the band it's never changed. That said I still really like her and would be intrigued to hear a solo album, even though it sounds tied to musicals.

Posted by: Jáhq 4th November 2012, 10:39 PM

What is this Kimberley hate! She's the one I was voting for during Popstars: The Rivals and still remains my favourite.

Posted by: gooddelta 4th November 2012, 10:44 PM

I only ever cared about Nadine during Popstars: The Rivals, although it was a foregone conclusion that she was in the band from the day we first saw her audition. I still remember her Irish Popstars fiasco like it was yesterday!

Was the Irish version of Popstars shown on British TV?

My ranking of the girls is as follows:

1. Cheryl
2. Kimberley
3. Nicola
4. Nadine
5. Sarah

Yep, as part of SM:TV back in 2001, about a year after they showed the original Australian Popstars. The debut album by the winning act of that show, Bardot, against all odds remains my all time favourite girl group album ohmy.gif

An ITV Saturday morning show hosted by Ant, Dec and Cat Deeley which ran from the late 90s until the early 00's. Shocking I know but my top five favourite girl group albums are;

1. Bardot - Bardot
2. Atomic Kitten - Ladies Night
3. Atomic Kitten - Right Now
4. Girls Aloud - Out Of Control
5. Girls Aloud - Tangled Up

In terms of singles, GA easily come out on top though...

I see! Who was the target audience? Was it like a CBBC/TMI show or more T4?

I've not heard any of your top three, at a guess mine would be:

1. Girls Aloud - Tangled Up
2. Girls Aloud - Out of Control
3. Girls Aloud - Chemistry
4. The Saturdays - Chasing Lights

And then I'm not sure... Although I think I might actually be starting to prefer Out of Control these days!

Jumping on the bandwagon -

1. Nicola
2. Nadine
3. Kimberley
4. Cheryl
5. Sarah

Kids and teenagers I guess, other shows that featured on it were Pokemon, Sabrina The Teenge Witch and their own Friends spoof called Chums, which the celebrities that were on the show each week used to feature in. Definitely more TMI than T4.

My third favourite GA album is What Will The Neighbours Say, other favourite girlband albums of mine include All Saints - Studio 1 and The Saturdays - Chasing Lights and Headlines.

Posted by: pippa 5th November 2012, 10:58 AM

It is a clever time for her to release an album, all going well there will be Girls Aloud fever floating about which will boost her profile which could result in more sales.

Posted by: Lukuzz 5th November 2012, 12:46 PM

I hope there's something from Les Mis on there!

I'm not hugely excited for it, but with her & Sarah releasing solo albums, it'll be nice to have at least one from each member.

I'm imagining this will be a songs from the musicals album a la Melanie C's latest effort. And YES 'On My Own' needs to be on there, that'd be perfect! This would be a brilliant way for Kimberley to capitalise on her Strictly success regardless of if she wins it or not (however I think she will, did you see her samba to Beyonce on Saturday just gone? SMOKING *said in the voice of Jim Carrey from the Mask*)...

Posted by: THEO. 5th November 2012, 04:40 PM

It's definitely happening!

From the Girls Aloud Facebook page:

So pretty wub.gif

(I'm guessing this means just Twitter Q&A and there isn't a video chat? tongue.gif)

Posted by: pippa 6th November 2012, 09:34 AM

She could shock everyone and have a surprisingly relative big selling album.

Posted by: billy. 6th November 2012, 09:53 AM

I actually think Kimberley could do well. If she appeals to the Joe McElderry market.

Posted by: Silver Rocket 6th November 2012, 01:14 PM

I'm not gonna deny it, the prospect of this project doesn't exactly fill me with excitement...

Posted by: THEO. 9th November 2012, 08:00 PM

"Another Suitcase In Another Hall" (from Evita) is going to feature on Now That's What I Call Musicals, which I assume will then be included on Centre Stage! Exciting biggrin.gif

Posted by: Lukuzz 14th December 2012, 11:54 PM

This is the tracklist apparently -

1. One Day I'll Fly Away
2. On My Own
3. Somewhere
4. Falling Slowly (feat. Ronan Keating)
5. Memory
6. Defying Gravity
7. I Still Believe (feat. Louise Dearman)
8. Dreams Can Learn To Fly
9. Another Suitcase In Another Hall
10. Hushabye Mountain
11. As Long As He Needs Me
12. You First Loved Me

Yeyy at On My Own, Somewhere, Memory, Defying Gravity and As Long As He Needs Me some of my fave ever musical songs!

Posted by: THEO. 15th December 2012, 11:13 AM

Beautiful artwork wub.gif I'm really looking forward to hearing "Defying Gravity"!

Posted by: THEO. 18th December 2012, 10:19 PM

There's also going to be a deluxe version (on iTunes at least - I've not seen anything about a physical edition). The tracks are:

13. "One Day I'll Fly Away" (The Alias Club Mix)
14. "Easy Terms" (Acoustic Version)
15. "Someone to Watch Over Me" (Acoustic Version)
16. "Tomorrow" (Acoustic Version)

Very bizarre to include a "club remix" of a song from a musical... The previews are on iTunes now anyway. "On My Own" sounds good (although the full thing has of course been released already on Now That's What I Call Musicals). "Somewhere" is almost unrecognisable in its production, but I do like the sound of it. "Defying Gravity" sounds decent, but a bit too overproduced. I'm guessing it's because there are some very big/high notes towards the end of the song. "Dreams Can Learn to Fly" (one of the album's original songs) sounds great! A lot of fun, and it definitely feels like it's already been taken from a musical! The remix of "One Day I'll Fly Away" sound like it's being sung over "Gangnam Style" huh.gif As I said, bizarre, and completely ruins the mood of the album. "Tomorrow" sounds great also.

Her vocals sound really strong throughout, and it's nice that we're finally getting an album of Kimberley songs! Granted, it's not my preferred style of music (especially minus the visuals), but I think it can do well for her, and it's likely that she'll release another album like this.

Posted by: Lukuzz 18th December 2012, 10:33 PM

I love all the previews, I'm very into musicals so I'm going to love this, hope they release a physical version of the deluxe!

809. Centre Stage Pre-Order

Posted by: pippa 22nd January 2013, 01:52 PM

Regardless of how this album sells i think the timing of it has been nothing short of perfect. Kimberley was highly received on Strictly Come Dancing. Girls Aloud re-uniting (even if only temporary) has put them back in the headlines so at this stage of Kimberley's career she is quiet well exposed. I just hope she can capitalise on all of this with some good promotion when the album is officially released. I strongly believe if this happens Kimberley is well and truly in line to have the most successful solo album with the exception of Cheryl. The ideal outcome for Kimberley in my book would be for her album to outsell Cheryls recent release. I am fully aware that could be harder than we think.

Posted by: Marina Hurts 22nd January 2013, 02:10 PM

To be honest, I don't want this to flop but I don't want it to be a mega seller either. It doesn't deserve to sell over 100k.

I don't need to listen first to deduce that an album full of rehashed musical songs doesn't deserve to sell half a million copies. I don't want Kimberley to be the female version of Michael Buble, do you?

Well I've not heard the originals of most of them, so it will very much feel like an original album to me, as well as the inclusion of two original songs. I very much think she does deserve to sell many copies, I doubt she's going to do a series of these albums, and if she does, I think she'll add more and more new material every time. And I like Michael Bublé, so that is no insult...

I don't think 100k is out of the question, if Joe McElderry could sell over 200k of 'Classic' without a hit single, then why not? Half a million definitely doesn't seem likely though...

1 week till the album release, out on Friday in Ireland, not long till we hear it in full now.

I wonder what shops will stick here in Ireland, hope the supermarkets all stock it, xtra vision and heatons too. I say this because when kylie released her abbey roads album neither my local tesco or xtra vision stocked it, heatons did though and i think that make a huge difference to sales as there are some people who only buy albums in supermarkets as they dont go to music stores etc.

As did mine! I'm enjoying it thus far (up to "Hushabye Mountain"), but there is a very clear sense that her voice has been heavily autotuned, which is a shame. "On My Own" doesn't quite match up (especially after seeing Sam Barks's amazing performance in Les Misérables recently), and you can feel the absence of a duet partner on "Somewhere" and "Defying Gravity". It's definitely not awful, but it's my least favourite Girls Aloud solo album so far.

I think her voice has just been heavily edited to cover up the big notes which she won't be able to reach naturally. It also sounds quite vocodered in places.

It wasn't bad on Passions at all!!

Don't be hating on Kimbore now!!

Her vocals are so much better now though, that wasn't all that good.

Also have people seen her performances from G-A-Y she is sounding great imo -

Her belting towards the end of Defying Gravity heart.gif

She looks like she's having a great time in those videos! She sounded a lot better than I would have expected as well, and you're right about those notes towards the end of "Defying Gravity". She looked great as well, the outfit was very nice. I presume she also sang "One Day I'll Fly Away" and possibly some other songs from the album/Girls Aloud songs? Hopefully there'll be more videos.

I was hoping we would receive a tweet today and an updated chart position.

Posted by: Lukuzz 8th February 2013, 12:29 PM

Down to #16 in today's update.

Posted by: Jamesy 8th February 2013, 12:41 PM

The more I listen, the better this album gets. I don't think it's a fantastic album though.

Posted by: liamk97 8th February 2013, 11:03 PM

My ranking of the album on first listen:

01. One Day I’ll Fly Away
02. As Long As He Needs Me
03. Somewhere
04. On My Own
05. Memory
06. Dreams Can Learn to Fly
07. Defying Gravity
08. I Still Believe (featuring Louise Dearman)
09. Hushabye Mountain
10. You First Love Me
11. Another Suitcase in Another Hall
12. Falling Slowly (featuring Ronan Keating)

I’ve given it 7/10 so far, but I’ll give it another listen tomorrow and see if it gets any better.

I was hoping for a massive note at the end of As Long As He Needs Me. sad.gif

My deluxe copy finally arrived today after the Universal/Decca cock up. What a lovely album! I particularly love 'Another Suitcase in Another Hall', 'Defying Gravity' and 'Hushabye Mountain'. It's not a singles album true, but it's lovely, almost evocative of the Elaine Paige records my mum used to listen to when I was growing up (if you're not a theatre goer you'd be best advised to look her up). Kimberley has a really nice voice...I mean we all knew she could sing well enough with the girls but with the theatrical stuff she really shines. There isn't a song I don't like on here. Good eff all round!

#99 debut here in Ireland.

Posted by: dannjohn3 9th February 2013, 03:27 AM

It's an abysmal MT CD. The fact is her duet partner on "I Still Believe" blows her out the water (and clearly the producer knows that). Kimberley should've gone into a Jazzy/Norah Jones type album, it would've suited her voice better.

Posted by: THEO. 10th February 2013, 06:49 PM

This is #18 in the UK then, one place lower than Nicola's peak! I thought it'd do better, but it's still nothing to be sniffed at, especially as promotion was limited.

Posted by: Aphrodite 10th February 2013, 07:34 PM

Im really happy it managed to stay top 20 or her, hopefully valentines will benefit her and prevent her completely plummeting next week.

Posted by: Silver Rocket 10th February 2013, 08:35 PM

Pretty much exactly what I expected from the outset, it'll definitely be out of the top 40 next week.

Posted by: liamk97 10th February 2013, 08:49 PM

Pleased with its debut - still Top 20 but not outdoing Nicola Roberts.

Agreed, #18 is a good position.

Posted by: Aphrodite 11th February 2013, 01:18 AM

where did Nicola end up on week 2??

Posted by: Jạy 11th February 2013, 01:55 AM

17-72-158-Out! I don't think it ever re-entered the Top 200 after that.

Posted by: pippa 11th February 2013, 09:39 AM

I hope Kimberley can manage a better chart run than Nicola, but in honest thinking i believe Kimberley could suffer the same fate as Nicola which is a massive shame as both album do not deserve it.

Posted by: panther25 11th February 2013, 10:26 AM

Better than Mel C's Stages!

Posted by: pippa 11th February 2013, 11:46 AM

Mel C is sickengly ignored in the UK and she has to release a bad album.

Posted by: Lukuzz 11th February 2013, 11:47 AM

I can't see it sticking around long tbh

Posted by: Aphrodite 11th February 2013, 03:31 PM

18 Kimberley Walsh 6,620 this week.

Did Nicola sell much more?

Cinderella's Eyes sold about 8,500 as far as I can remember.

I'm so glad Nicola is still the 2nd best selling solo girls aloud member laugh.gif

Posted by: Jạy 12th February 2013, 03:04 PM

That's right! 8,473 precisely.

Sad to say, but I think 'Like U Like' alone sold more than 'Cinderella's Eyes', 'Beat Of My Drum', 'Lucky Day' & 'Yo-Yo' combined, lol (or at least around the same).

Posted by: Aphrodite 12th February 2013, 11:26 PM

Kimberley may benefit a few valentines sales this week so outselling nicola would not be completey out of the question just yet.

Posted by: Silver Rocket 12th February 2013, 11:46 PM

I don't get how Valentines would benefit her, if anything it'll push her further down the chart. unsure.gif

You're right! cry.gif If we go by the estimates here, all of Nicola Roberts' releases add up to 69k whilst Like U Like is on 65k, so a very similar amount!

Posted by: pippa 13th February 2013, 03:19 PM

Kimberley;s campaign has only started and at the ultimate worst she will add 2,000 album sales this week.

Posted by: Silver Rocket 13th February 2013, 11:19 PM

Out of the top 40 in the midweeks. Looks like this is pretty much mirroring Nicola's album performance.

Posted by: pippa 14th February 2013, 02:08 PM

It is looking that way, i am dreading how much she will drop.

Posted by: Aphrodite 14th February 2013, 09:09 PM

I was secretly hoping this would be low top 40 today but at the same knew it wouldnt, i will cling onto hope that it is top 50 now.

Posted by: Grieflemore 16th February 2013, 08:01 PM

Kimberley has just performed Defying Gravity on Let's Dance For Comic Relief.

It could give the album a boost.

Posted by: JosephAloud 16th February 2013, 08:43 PM

She SMASHED that performance. Getting a lot of hate on Twitter though...

Points need to be PROVEN when one of my girls is involved, dear Griff.

#606 on iTunes nocheer.gif

Posted by: Juranamo 17th February 2013, 05:53 PM

Well I thought that was an excellent performance, and much better than I expected tbh. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Aphrodite 17th February 2013, 06:30 PM

It was a much better performance than her national tv awards performance. Im actually dreading seeing where her album is on todays official charts.

Posted by: liamk97 17th February 2013, 07:05 PM

Centre Stage 'only' falls 18-50 this week! ohmy.gif

Posted by: Aphrodite 17th February 2013, 07:33 PM

Im happy with that as i expected worse, that should bring her sales very near to 10,000 now, hopefully another week top 75 next week but top 100 should hopefully be guaranteed.

Posted by: aprilj 17th February 2013, 10:01 PM

That was a huge improvement on her NTAs performance but, does anyone else think she sounds very awkward and strained on the big notes. Particularly at the end of Defying Gravity?

Posted by: -Gary 17th February 2013, 11:09 PM

This is how you sing 'Defying Gravity'

Posted by: Aphrodite 17th February 2013, 11:22 PM

Im glad chart performance wise its held up better than Nicola did, i think overall though they will both sell in the same quantities which is a shame as both deserve so much more sales.

Posted by: Calum Sandé 18th February 2013, 04:42 PM

Not gonna lie, Kimberley's destroyed Defying Gravity. I mean, she didn't just try and stand on it, she took a baseball bat to it, and strangled several thousand cats whilst she was at it. So sad to see a pop star like her, who, when in her own element is a great singer, take a musical theatre song and make it sound terrible. sad.gif

She wasn't THAT bad. Admittedly she doesn't Adele strength vocals, but she still delivered a good performance. Especially after the disaster of NTAs.

Posted by: liamk97 20th February 2013, 04:56 PM

The NTAs were NOT a disaster! mad.gif

Posted by: Aphrodite 23rd February 2013, 04:12 PM

Anyone think the album has any chance of getting a third week in the top 75 this week?

Posted by: THEO. 24th February 2013, 07:09 PM

Not top 75 unfortunately - it's down to #81 this week.

Posted by: Aphrodite 24th February 2013, 07:40 PM

81 isnt bad, it aint far off the top 75 and at least it stayed top 100, hopefully it can squeeze in 1 more week next week.

Posted by: pippa 25th February 2013, 01:00 PM

Its position would have warranted around 1,100 sales for last week pushing sales over 10,000 total.

Posted by: Aphrodite 25th February 2013, 08:25 PM

Well at least its managed 10,000, will it manage 15,000 overall i wonder?

Posted by: Jạy 7th March 2013, 11:51 AM

'Centre Stage' down to #190 this week.

18-50-81-190.

Posted by: pippa 7th March 2013, 12:11 PM

That is a horrendous fall, really didnt expect such a massive drop.

Posted by: liamk97 7th March 2013, 10:39 PM

Massive drop. Still, miles better than I would have expected in it's fourth week a couple of months back.

Posted by: Calum Sandé 7th March 2013, 11:04 PM

Not surprised it's dropped. She slaughters such a fantastic song like Defying Gravity, the album itself is slaughtered. kink.gif

Posted by: Aphrodite 7th March 2013, 11:18 PM

It done slightly better than i thought but it still a shame that in reality its sales were so weak.

Posted by: sionhan GA 10th March 2013, 02:18 AM

amazing album

Posted by: A Million Lights 11th March 2013, 04:42 PM

For the amount of promo she's done & the fact that she's in the UK's biggest girlband it should have done much better sad.gif

Posted by: pippa 11th March 2013, 04:57 PM

Yes in retro respect and all that reviewed it should have done better but we all knew it wouldnt.
