Katy Perry is planning a Las Vegas residency at The Theatre at Resorts World to start later this year, sources tell Billboard. The residency is expected to run into 2022.
Resorts World is Las Vegas' first new-from-the-ground-up casino-resort on the Strip in more than a decade. The 5,000-capacity Theater will run as a joint development in partnership with AEG Presents, exclusively programmed and operated by its Concerts West division. The $4.3 billion casino is expected to open this summer.
Perry, 36, rose to musical stardom in 2008 with “I Kissed a Girl,” and has been a popular artist since.
She’s had 34 songs hit the Billboard Hot 100, including 14 top 10 songs and nine chart toppers. She was named Top Female Artist by the trade magazine in 2014 and won for Best Pop/Rock Female Artist at the American Music Awards in 2011, 2012, and 2014.
In 2015, she headlined the Super Bowl halftime show. That performance drew record viewership of more than 118 million viewers.
For the past four years, Perry has been a judge on the second incarnation of American Idol. The show is no longer the ratings juggernaut it was during its initial run. However, Idol, which airs twice weekly, still has both episodes rank among the top 30 most-watched shows.
In the past decade, Perry has headlined three world tours. Her most recent one in 2018 ranked 29th that year, grossing $55.3 million, according to Pollstar. The 52-show tour in 41 cities sold more than 630,000 tickets at an average price of $87.30.
Last fall, Perry gave birth to her first child, a daughter. She’s engaged to actor Orlando Bloom.
Sauce: Billboard
Mm, Billboard sauce!
Well, she knows her days of releasing big albums are over, so why not!
Are you forgetting Gaga? Lmao. She literally just got her most commercially successful era since BTW a year or so after starting her (successful) Vegas show?
But anyway I think the Vegas stigma that you're referencing has long since been done and gone. Artists are happier and healthier doing Vegas shows and not getting worn out travelling etc.. it's a good paycheck for them.
Well, GaGa never did a Furtado. Katy is finished in the charts unfortunately, so Vegas is a great move for her.
I know she said somewhere she said her 20 most streamed songs will be the setlist but SURELY Waking Up In Vegas and Roulette need to make a VEGAS setlist???
Waking Up In Vegas isn’t in her top 20 streamed?
Her Vegas residency 'Play' began yesterday (December 29th)!

I feel like she's getting so much good press today after the start of her residency. It's been making me feel a bit happy emotional after a few eras of negativity or just being cast aside. She looks like she's in her ELEMENT, amazing visuals, camp and larger than life, just like her.
That 4 seconds alone is what I've really been missing from Katy for YEARS.
Regardless of what happens with any new music, I think she’ll always be able to sell a tour. She’s definitely capable of putting on a fun show with props and staging etc vocally she can be hit and miss live (haven’t seen all the tour videos going round so can’t judge so much on this tour) but I can’t fault the effort she puts into making her shows an experience for her fans and she looks like she’s thriving there!
Yes she has the hits and charisma to carry a residency and even a nostalgia-driven tour even if her current songs don't bring any additional chart success.
Walking On Air should have been a single
