Apologies if such a thread/resource exists for this, but I started to make a playlist of every #1 single from this century and having only started with the year 2000, I noticed that the #1 single Toca’s Miracle by Fragma was not available on Spotify. I don’t know if it’s the case on Apple Music too or other platforms, but I wondered if anybody knew what other UK #1 singles might be missing from Spotify from the last 20 years?
Leon Jackson - When You Believe
Off the top of my head:
Chef - Chocolate Salty Balls
Various Artists - Perfect Day
Spiller and Sophie Ellis-Bextor- Groovejet. The original version anyway
Oh I discovered this one was missing the other day when listening to 80s hits:
Dave Stewart & Barbara Gaskin - It’s My Party
I tried making a playlist a few years ago. The ones I couldn't find in my searches were "If" by Telly Savalas, "D.I.V.O.R.C.E." by Billy Connolly, "The Chicken Song" by the Spitting Image, "Let It Be" by Ferry Aid, "Ferry 'Cross The Mersey" by the Christians etc, "The Stonk" by Hale & Pace, "Love Can Build A Bridge" by Cher etc, "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" by Dunblane, "With A Little Help From My Friends" by Sam & Mark, "Against All Odds" by Steve Brookstein, "Islands In The Stream", and the aforementioned "It's My Party" and "Perfect Day". And of course "River".
Although many of these are unplayable for me in Canada, so I'm not sure if that's Geo-blocking or simply been removed.
Not that I imagine anyone wants to stream it but Bob the builder’s can we fix it is also not on streaming. There are definitely others from before 2006 that aren’t available, though can’t think of the names off the top of my head.
Toca's Miracle may never make it to streaming because of a conflict between the singer and the label. Think she never got paid enough royalties or something.
Prince - Most Beautiful Girl In The World
Prince’s only number one, ‘The Most Beautiful Girl in the World’ isn’t available to stream, which I’ve always found crazy.
Aaliyah’s ‘More Than a Woman’ isn’t either, along with most of her discography due to her uncle owning the rights I think? I had to buy her albums on eBay and add them to my Apple Music account through iTunes in order to play them
Outhere Brothers - Don't Stop (Wiggle Wiggle) isn't available in the radio edit that got most of its airplay at the time and appears on the Now album, nor is 2 Unlimited - No Limit.
Mr Blobby is also not available (thankfully).
David Sneddon's Stop Living The Lie and Justice Collective's He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother are also missing.
Various other songs are available as album versions but are missing the hit radio edits, for example Hear'Say - The Way To Your Love and James Blunt - You're Beautiful.
More Than A Woman and other Aaliyah songs are on Spotify as part of various cheap and not particularly legit looking compilations, so they could probably get taken down at any time.
This is why I still buy DVDs and treasure my iPod and 2000+ collection of downloaded/CD-ripped music! I get ridiculed for it sometimes as being stuck in the 2000s, but it's nice to know I can watch a film/listen to a song at any time without the fear of it being removed or my internet connection going down.
The Now albums on CD are a godsend for many of these, the equivalent playlists on Spotify are either missing songs or feature the wrong versions of others, either longer/shorter edits or completely different mixes.
The KLF's #1s would have been on this list until just a few weeks ago!
Glad someone has made a thread on this topic, I was thinking about it only last week after discovering the KLF's discography had been added to streaming services.
David Sneddon & Aaliyah are also now on Spotify. As well as Toca's Miracle (sort of).
Spiller groovejet is also on apple music now !
I can't find the version of Mr. Vain that I used to hear on Spotify. The song itself is on there and ive found a lot of different versions just not the one I heard in my childhood.
The one released in the UK is on there, it's called Original Radio Edit and is track 3 on the Mr Vain single on Spotify

Ooh I wonder what this is going to be:
I fear we will all be stonking to the rhythm of the honkytonk once more!
Come thru Chef.
Oh I have a list of alll the number ones missing from Spotify, Tidal and Apple etc. Star Trekkin vanished off streaming not to long ago so could that be the reissue I wonder
Returns suggests it was available at some point before.
Star Trekkin by The Firm is an example of one that used to be available on Spotify but disappeared at some point.
This is my list of number ones missing from tidal, a few are on Apple or Spotify or both although I just discovered Helping Haiti- Everybody hurts isn’t on Apple
Number 1 singles-
1975- ,Telly Savalas- If, Billy Connolly- Divorce

2012- Justice Collective- he ain't heavy
2015- Lewishham and Greenwich NHS Choir- A Bridge Over You
Edit: Typically Tropical: Barbados isn’t on Spotify or Apple. Also several weeks ago Eddy Grant’s “I Don’t Wanna Dance” randomly showed up on Spotify but then vanished a couple of weeks later, the date on it was late February next year so they may have put it up too early by mistake
I think we can rule out any historic charity singles getting put on streaming platforms anytime soon. X Factor winners/runners up are equally unlikely.
I guess we are going back to the 90’s to find an eligible option.
Oh and if it’s the UK #1 on the day I was born by Spitting Image we will all rejoice.
Ahh I just saw the Emoji on the Pop Activism post. It’s Chef
Today I learned that “Chocolate Salty Balls" was almost the Christmas Number One in 1998….
Chocolate Salty Balls streaming party!!!!
It is indeed Chef who has returned to streaming
#ChocolateSaltyBallsStreamingParty
Here’s my playlist updated every week - if I have made any mistakes let me know, and feel free to follow

Manifesting the Chicken Song
'Star Trekkin' prayer circle...
Please let it be The Chicken Song. Keep us posted please Jade!
Pull through Sam and Mark!
I fear it's time for Spotify users to stonk to the rhythm of the honkytonk x
A fascinating topic I've only just caught up with, and one which underlines why I've never quite embraced streaming in the way I'd have perhaps liked - i.e. because there'd eventually always be annoying gaps that may never get filled, regardless of the genre, era or other basis on which one might compile playlists. I compiled best-selling singles Top 100s for the 2010s, 2000s, 1990s and 1980s, and managed to fill most positions for each decade, but there were some obvious missing hits and yes, mostly from the charity world, which I suppose one can understand. It's the regular songs that are missing that are oddities - or worse-still those which apparently have featured on Spotify but no longer do, for no obvious reason. Perhaps even more disappointing is thinking you've found what you need for a playlist, only to find it's the wrong version (so not the standard 7" mix usually played by radio/TV). I find my local pub jukebox does this and we all need to be very careful if using it to try and triple-check that the version you're picking isn't some 12" mix, album version, live version, remix or rerecording - even with the greatest care one can still get it wrong and waste 15p!
No idea what the new streaming arrival is but however awful some of these songs are, they should nevertheless be accessible, to satisfy things like 'greatest hits' playlists, and to ensure the format is considered credible and inclusive of almost all well-known songs ever recorded.
I would love perfect day to be added !!!
Manifesting Spacedust
Is it definitely a missing song being added this time and not just a radio edit I wonder, as there are plenty of the latter missing. The Way To Your Love and Stop Living The Lie spring to mind, but there are loads of others.
My money would be on something like Sam & Mark too though if it's a genuinely missing song. I can't see Perfect Day (presuming there are several BBC/artist licensing issues) or Gym & Tonic ever getting on there (the original Gym Tonic by Bob Sinclar that couldn't be released back in the day is on Spotify though).
Mr Blobby? Bob The Builder?
The Stonk
I actually genuinely want the Chicken Song on there. It's great fun.
(well I want all of them however crap on there for completeness really, but Chicken Song first plz x)
Quick question, and I don’t know when I last checked, but how long has the radio edit of Ebeneezer Goode been removed from Spotify? There is an extended Beatmasters Mix there, but I was a little surprised not to see the radio edit (despite knowing its subliminal messages contained within).
This is what I really dislike about streaming! Out of interest, is the radio edit of 'Ebeneezer Goode' available on other streaming platforms, is it just Spotify it's disappeared from?
https://music.apple.com/nz/album/walk-this-way-ep-sugababes-vs-girls-aloud/1739703752
Not sure if this is the missing song as it's available on streaming through compilation albums, but Sugababes vs. Girls Aloud - 'Walk This Way' is getting an official streaming release tomorrow.
They removed the 'New Vocal' version of Kate Bush's 'Wuthering Heights' from Spotify. OK that wasn't the version that made no.1 in 1978 but very familiar/first heard version for many as it was this but not the original featured on her over million selling compilation 'Whole Story'.
Pop Music Activism has revealed just now that it’s Love Can Build A Bridge by Cher, Chrissie Hynde and Neneh Cherry. A two-track single has gone online today.
With the separate digital release of Walk This Way, it’s quite curious to see two official Comic Relief songs get single releases on the same day (I know Walk This Way was on there in some form at least as Whoddy said).
I must admit that Love Can Build A Bridge is not a song I’d even registered was missing or would necessarily seek out to listen to! But very nice to get a missing No.1 by such big stars online.
'Love Can Build A Bridge' is quite a nice song and it's always good to have a previously missing number one become available for streaming, but I'm still disappointed it wasn't 'The Chicken Song' (or its very politically incorrect B-side!)
'The Stonk' will be next to continue the Comic Relief theme, wbk x
I don't have any particularly strong feelings towards 'Love Can Build A Bridge' but am glad that a new gap has been filled!
I was getting worried that I hyped this thread up just for 'Walk This Way' which was already on there in some form Pop Music Activism forever doing the lord's work.
