Great to see you’re doing this for another year!!!
I have attempted to create a rough decade-to-date chart for those who are interested, please take this with a pinch of salt though as it could be wildly inaccurate:
#1 The Weeknd - Blinding Lights (4.16m)
#2 Ed Sheeran - Bad Habits (3.52m)
#3 Lewis Capaldi - Someone You Loved (2.92m)
#4 Tones and I - Dance Monkey (2.73m)
#5 Glass Animals - Heat Waves (2.68m)
#6 Joel Corry feat. MNEK - Heat & Heart (2.67m)
#7 Harry Styles - As It Was (2.53m)
#8 Ed Sheeran - Shivers (2.51m)
#9 The Killers - Mr. Brightside (2.42m)
#10 Wham! - Last Christmas (2.41m)
#11 Mariah Carey - All I Want for Christmas is You (2.34m)
#12 The Weeknd - Save Your Tears (2.34m)
#13 Harry Styles - Watermelon Sugar (2.32m)
#14 Lewis Capaldi - Before You Go (2.27m)
#15 Olivia Rodrigo - good 4 u (2.26m)
#16 Dua Lipa feat. DaBaby - Levitating (2.20m)
#17 Dua Lipa - Don't Start Now (2.14m)
#18 Elton John & Dua Lipa - Cold Heart [PNAU Remix] (2.12m)
#19 SAINt JHN - Roses [Imanbek Remix] (2.08m)
#20 Ed Sheeran - Perfect (2.08m)
I’m sure it’s not far off at all
Head & Heart low key feels out of place on that list now, don't get me wrong, I love it and it was inescapable at the time but I rarely ever hear it now.
So Bad Habits is the biggest song released this decade in the UK so far?
Head & Heart gains a relatively significant advantage having been released in 2020 so has had longer to accumulate sales.
And yes on Bad Habits, although Blinding Lights was released in December 2019 so close enough imo, remains to be seen if As It Was or anything else can catch Bad Habits if we’re excluding Blinding Lights

Think that’s the first time Perfect has been out of the YTD Top 100 since whenever it entered in 2017.
Sheeran fatigue finally getting to kick out Perfect from the year end chart yay
hopefully Murder can remain in the year end top ten the whole year but who knows how quickly it’ll drop off
One Dance... Really
Blinding Lights and Bad Habits both quite far out ahead in the decade totals then. Do both sell similar amounts these days or does one seem more likely to grow quicker than the other now?
Think it's more impressive as bad habits was in a fight for number 1 in its first week
Not sure I follow? What is more impressive?
I think he’s saying that it’s impressive Bad Habits became such a huge seller after it wasn’t so huge straight after the blocks, but Blinding Lights missed the Top 10 on its 1st week so not sure that follows.
To be fair 'Blinding Lights' wasn't initially being pushed as a single (the focus was initially on 'Heartless' but then to be even fairer it still took a long time for it to climb to #1 after it did get more of a push.
Also 'Blinding Lights' is technically a 2010s release so Ed still has a clear run at having the biggest seller that was first released within the decade

Lover by Taylor entering seems a bit random
Lover’s been doing really well on Apple Music since Christmas and alright on Spotify so not too surprising. Can’t explain why though apart from the obvious Taylor phenomenon atm
I always thought Lover could really be a smash because it reminded me a lot of Perfect by Ed Sheeran (in terms of the instrumental and the overall feel of the song at least). Maybe the general public are switching from one to the other now.
And btw I am so happy to be getting these weekly again! I always loved checking every week when vidcapper used to post them here.
Sophie should move into #2 and hopefully Natasha into the top 30.
Not Flop, And? only debuting straight at #8 on the YTD list.

Wouldn’t have expected Never Be Alone to show up. Expect it won’t last long.
Wonderwall has been doing very poorly on Spotify this year compared to previous ones so not a surprise to see it drop out.
Seems like that's the year end #1 sewn up already unless we get another Bad Habits level hit. Stick Season is on track to do similar numbers to Flowers last year if it drops off at a similar rate. Chuffed for Noah, but it's sad how this is usually decided by the end of Q1 these days!
I forgot what year it was but the year when it was God's Plan vs. One Kiss was good for a year-end #1 battle. God's Plan had the early lead and looked like the year-end #1, but then One Kiss came out in like April iirc and gradually caught up and it was SUPER close at the end of the year.
But if it's not Stick Season for this year then it's going to have to be an absolute mega-smash to beat it.

Teddy Swims overtaking Mademoiselle E-B
It was bound to happen sooner or later but Teddy Swims overtaking Sophie E-B is so not it!
Unfortunately MOTD is now behind songs like Prada, Greedy and Cruel Summer in the weekly chart, meaning it could eventually fall below them here.
Does anyone have MOTD's year end positions for 2001 and 2002 to hand?
2001: #60
2002: #87
So it should comfortably beat both of those. Would be shocked if it finishes below #20
Oh yeah no worries whatsoever about it reaching a new year end peak by some margin then.
Ugh had to be Teddy Swims overtaking Sophie
Ooh nice to see 'Linger' sneaking in. Don't like the ancient songs clogging up but that's a nice addition to those at least!

Hooray more new stuff replacing old stuff
Feels like we are looking set for the ‘freshest’ year end chart in many years. Obviously a lot can change and I am sure those classics will maintain good numbers, but healthier sales at the top should give more current hits a better chance to stick around.
Agreed that this is looking like hopefully the freshest year end since 2020, hopefully the booting out of old songs can continue.
Almost a million for Stick Season already. Biggest YE #1 since Shape of You incoming?
I haven't checked previous years, but isn't it totally normal that older songs get kicked out early on in the year? They get by on steady performance (but also generally a strong January when there isn't much new stuff around) and can't keep up with songs that have a few months in the spotlight. As time goes by, those upstarts fall back down, while their newer equivalents can't catch up to the much higher bar that's being set. Like I think a lot of the stuff that's being kicked out at the moment is just gonna creep back in eventually.
(In saying all of this, I have noticed that the Australian Spotify chart this year has had way more current music than I've seen in the 12 months previous. Guessing the UK might be similar).

If that 6-9 section gets shunted by the oncoming likes of Djo, Hozier, Sabrina… we could have a whole top 10 of songs that actually peaked in the current year (or resurged in the case of MOTD) and it will have only took… nearly half the year.
At least we won’t be reaching the end of the year with a song that peaked 18 months earlier in the YTD top 3.
'yes, and?' being out of the weekly top 100 already suggests to me it probably won't even make the top 20 on the YE.
I think you missed 'The Night We Met' from the pre-2023 releases section.

Do you have a sales estimate for Saturn at all and if that’s close to entering?
Actually I have Saturn right on the 155k required for #100 so must be just outside.
Like That I have very close too, around 153k.
Hell N Back can’t be far off either, though I haven’t worked out how much it must have done this year before it re-charted.
Bad Habits at #98 - we could be on the verge of an Ed-less YTD Top 100 for maybe the first time in a decade plus?!
Don't think he had anything in the 2016 EOY either - other than that it's been every year from 2011 onwards.

I knew Everywhere was heading towards the Top 40 but wasn’t expecting it to be already there.
That 38 - 40 run is absolutely dire.
I was wondering if you know if either 'FE!N' or 'Valerie' are looking like entering soon?
3 songs taking up unnecessary space in 38-40 when 2023/4 songs could be there instead.
Hopefully no more oldies outside it lol.
No Ed Sheeran in a YTD top 100 for the first time since the start of 2017.

Looks like 'we can't be friends (wait for your love)' is gonna be certified Gold on Friday! Also, 3x Platinum for Cruel Summer very soon!
Small nitpick - 'Seventeen Going Under' did have a few weeks on SCR again in February
Oh yes, I somehow mentally skipped over 'As It Was' being there too x (surprised that's so low on the list really)
It will be interesting to see how many of this year’s releases are certified gold this Friday!
Great to see that Alibi should reach Gold in the next week or two.

I half expected to see Slow It Down which must be very close now.
Over the next couple of weeks we should also be seeing Houdini, Lunch, Birds Of A Feather, Stargazing, Not Like Us and maybe Down Bad.
Who would have ever thought in 2024 that both Sophie Ellis Bextor and Natasha Bedingfield would both be in the top 20 of best selling singles of the year.
Do we have a sales estimate for Green & Gold? I keep expecting it to maybe pop in one week

I’m loving that the Top 20 has 12 songs all released this year! I think last year the whole top 40 had about 12 songs released in that year!
Great to see!

I Ain’t Worried
Down Bad must be extremely close: I’m expecting to see that, Good Luck, Babe! and Please Please Please in the half year chart next week.
Where’s Snooze by SZA by the way? I’m surprised it’s still in
Looks like Cruel Summer is gonna be certified 3x Platinum by this or next Friday.
Will Espresso catch Stick Season? Should be a close one
It is a tall order but not impossible as the gap is more than 40k per week at the moment and Espresso has been incredibly stable. Stick Season has actually dropped off a bit faster than I would have expected for a monster hit over the last couple of months.
Great to have a battle on our hands after all anyway.
But you'd also expect that as we move into autumn and winter months that would favour 'Stick Season' a lot more, I wouldn't be surprised if it is back ahead of 'Espresso' on a weekly basis by the end of the year - agreed though that it is at least interesting that the EOY #1 isn't a 100% foregone conclusion as I initially thought it would have been.
Sales for the Top 3 could easily be a few k out by now but hopefully we’ll get some accurate numbers from the OCC shortly which I’ll edit in.

Hoping "My Love Mine All Mine" can somehow hold on til the year's end but feel it's somewhat unlikely at this point.
Any idea how close "BAND4BAND" and "I Don't Wanna Wait" are, I'd estimate they can't be far off?
Great to see 3 records over 1m halfway through the year.
I thought Dua's Houdini was much closer to 600k (I know it's not that far) and was hoping this week would get Platinum Certification!!!
100k difference between being top 40 and not even top 100 isn't that big of a gap
Wonder how close WAOLOM is and whether it could manage a few weeks
Seems that none of the new Taylor tracks will beat Cruel Summer on YE chart.
It’s interesting to see how Taylor songs perform against each other and which tracks really stick with the general public. You have “Cruel Summer” now streaming about five times more per week than “Is It Over Now?” which peaked more recently but really is over now.
Frustratingly there are no accurate sales apart from “Espresso” whose sales have been given every week it’s charted anyway.
Interesting that “Lose Control” is the biggest pure seller with over 50k.
“Noah Kahan’s Stick Season remains the Official biggest single of 2024 so far, as we reach the halfway point of the year, Official Charts can confirm.
Stick Season reigned supreme at the top of the Official Singles Chart for seven consecutive weeks at the beginning of 2024 – and remains the longest-running Number 1 single of the year so far.
The first UK chart-topper from Vermont singer-songwriter Noah, taken from his third studio album of the same name, the song’s title refers to a transitional time in Vermont between autumn and winter.
According to Official Charts Company data, Stick Season has shifted 1.37 million chart units, including 160 million combined audio and video streams in 2024 so far. Originally released in 2022, the song’s lifetime total currently stands at 1.9 million chart units and 218 million streams in the UK.
Coming in at Number 2, we have Teddy Swims’ soulful Lose Control, which is also the most digitally downloaded single of 2024 so far (51,300 downloads), while Benson Boone’s former breakthrough Number 1 Beautiful Things lands at Number 3.
One new entry that is likely to rise further on the list throughout the year is Sabrina Carpenter’s Espresso (4), which spent five weeks at Number 1 before being unseated by Sabrina’s follow-up, Please Please Please. The track has already gathered 763,000 combined chart units including 85.7 million streams since its release in April.
Rounding out the Top 5, we have Hozier’s first UK Number 1 single, Too Sweet, which topped the Official Singles Chart for two weeks.
One of the dominant themes of 2024 so far has been a well-earned renaissance for country music in the UK, and as such we have plenty of country tracks burning up the biggest songs of 2024 so far. Beyoncé’s chart-topping TEXAS HOLD ‘EM leads the pack in the Top 10 (6) while breakthrough smashes Austin by Dasha (13) and Shaboozey’s A Bar Song (Tipsy) (14) earn a spot in the Top 20.
Further down, there are further country-fuelled appearances from Zach Bryan and Kacey Musgraves on I Remember Everything (28) and Post Malone & Morgan Wallen with I Had Some Help (36).
Ariana Grande sinks two entries in the Top 40 with two of the biggest hits from eternal sunshine; the handbag house strut of yes, and? (16) and the Robyn-esque we can’t be friends (wait for your love) (19).
Two tracks from Dua Lipa’s chart-topping third record Radical Optimism are also present; the hypnotic Houdini (22) and Training Season (31) both of which were Top 10 hits on the Official Singles Chart.
Other 2024 single releases to make the year-to-date list include; Artemas’s i like the way you kiss me (15), Taylor Swift’s fortnight ft. Post Malone (17), Michael Marcagi’s Scared To Start (18), and Ella Henderson & Rudimental’s Coolio-sampling Alibi (21).
Rounding out the Top 40, we have Tommy Richman’s Million Dollar Baby (30), Mark Ambor’s Belong Together (32) and Kygo and Ava Max’s Whatever (37), which samples Shakira’s 2001 classic Whenever, Wherever.

Double chop for Sza as both “Snooze” and “Saturn” exit as “Take On Me” re-enters just below “I Don’t Wanna Wait”.
I'm loving the fresh EOY this year! Can see both Chappell and Myles entering the Top 40 next week too!
Scared to start was only in the top 10 for three weeks and it’s so high up, pretty bizarre
Which song is at number 100?
Hope Sophie can hold top 10 for a bit longer, although I imagine Taylor, Shaboozey and Dasha will soon overtake.
Not sure if anyone will have the answer, but does anybody know what Perrie’s sales for Forget About Us are like? Had a good debut and floated around the Top 100 for a few months.
Was wondering if it’s likely near a silver certification?
What position is Dog Days Are Over? I’m surprised it’s still on the list
I'm still very confused as to where Summer of '69 gets all its sales from, it seems to rarely be top 200 on either Spotify or Apple.
I can only assume it's very popular with Alexa.

“Yellow” is back in the Top 100, replacing “Lovers In A Past Life”. With the lack of big new hits I can see this getting rather staler over the next few months!
Beautiful Things ahead of Lose Control
I'll pre-order my celebration for next week then
Thanks as always for this though Julian, an invaluable resource!
Both Houdinis coming for the top 20
Hopefully this drought is only a blip and the final few months we see a foray of big hits selling well so to keep the ancient tracks down to a much lesser extent.
Good to see Chappell inside the YE top 40 now!
I may be way off the mark here as estimating its actual sales is challenging, but I think Don't Stop Believin' could enter soon
What does WAOLOM stand for?

What position is “Naive” please?
Chappell, Billie, Myles probably all going to end up top 10
Great to see some songs from 2023 making big falls (Tyla down 6) and love seeing Fleetwood Mac in the top 40

Slightly different criteria: songs in the 41-100 zone whose chart peak was before 1/1/23:
Anti-hero
Someone you loved
As it was
Dreams
Iris
Take me to church
Another love
Viva la vida
Sex on fire
Summer of ‘69
Everybody wants to rule the world
Naïve
Shut up and dance
Take on me
Dog days are over
Yellow
Something in the orange
Valerie
“Valerie” re-entered this week, replacing “Snooze”.
I think old songs entering/re-entering is gonna become a theme over the next few weeks, I'd guess One of the Girls, Whatever She Wants and Like That are all pretty close to dropping out and I can't see anything new to replace it so I can only predict an influx of older stuff.
What exactly the older stuff will be is a mystery however.

“The Sound Of Silence” has replaced “Like That” this week. “The Door” must be very close so I’m expecting to see that next week.
Goodbye Sophie from the Top 10, was nice whilst it lasted.
Rare so late in the year for a song in the current weekly Top 10 to be dropping down the YTD ('Houdini').
Nice to see 'The Sound Of Silence' in there even if it is part of the old song clan.
6 weeks ago “Espresso” did 72k and we were saying in this thread maybe it could challenge “Stick Season” for the year end #1. It hasn’t had a good 6 weeks since then, dropping from 72k to 43k per week in really quite a short time for such a big hit. I doubt it will even catch “Beautiful Things” now.
The Sound of Silence making the YTD despite not having spent a single day in the Spotify chart this year is impressive.
I know that's partly helped by its 'sales' being split between the original and the CYRIL remix.
Do we have any information on which one is actually more popular atm? I'd assume the remix but don't know for sure
Too Sweet by Hozier will become a millionaire single this week
This is global but I assume it's telling enough
I can't believe we have 3 country songs in the YTD top 10 in August in 2024. And 2 are by black people and 2 are by women. For a genre that is (was) seen as old-fashioned, almost American-exclusive and white male dominated for most of my life it's quite incredible.
I do have a theory that a lot of kids have parents now who go "I like everything except country music", which might entice more younger people to want to listen to it. But that's just a guess, I would've never expected it. Maybe we'll get a heavy metal resurgence one day lol.
New to the Top 100:
The Door
Dancing In The Dark
Don’t Stop Believin’
Leaving the Top 100:
Down Bad
Valerie
One Of The Girls
SO happy to see Billie BOF smashing it! Would love to see it end the year in the Top 10! My favourite song of the year along with Chappell!
A bit surprised that Valerie's dropped out again tbh, I'm sure it will be back though.
On the flip side I was sure that Whatever She Wants was going to drop out this week, surely it's gone next week?

“Down Bad” has returned this week, replacing “Whatever She Wants”
I hope Billie and Chappell can knock Taylor and 'Prada' out of the top 10. Would be the freshest year end top 10 for years.
“Cruel Summer” is actually more likely to hold on than “Texas Hold ‘Em”, but “Please Please Please”, “Birds Of A Feather” and “Good Luck, Babe!” could knock both of those those plus “Prada” out.
Not looking likely that Alibi will get platinum by years end. Hopefully early 2025 though.
Surprised hot to go hasn’t entered the top 100 yet and none of charli’s around either
Is anything from BRAT close?
Expecting “Kisses” to enter in 2 weeks and “Hot To Go” in 2-3. “360” is Charli’s highest and not too far off but falling away quite fast so may not make it; likewise “Guess” could miss out.
Week 36:

“Wonderwall” unsurprisingly back, replacing “Down Bad”
Which song is at 100 and what are its sales please? Also how much does the cut-off increase by each week? Thanks
Someone Like You has had a decent resurgence since Adele’s recent performances so I might expect that back soon as well.
Linger is also performing strongly on Spotify atm so could also make a return.
Does appear like Chappell could leapfrog Billie soon with the latter on ACR. Both should be top 10 in no time though.
Where is 'exes' out of interest Julian?
It's nice to see the top 10 (and top 20 I guess) look representative of this year's releases, and not so littered with hangers on from last year.
Does anyone know what Britney Spears hold me closer is now on?
I presume it’s over 500k but very curious to see how close to platinum it now is
Hold me closer sales?
I’d love to see Billie , Chappell and Sabrina PPP make the official EOY Top 10 but not sure there’s room for all three
Yeah I’m sure all 3 will make it, for Sabrina I guess it’s just how many

“Kisses” has replaced “Redrum”
What are the chances of "bye bye bye" or "like a prayer" entering this list? Any other oldies particularly close?
Julian might have a better insight than me, but I’d say Like a Prayer has little to no chance and Bye Bye Bye isn’t massively likely either but might have an outside shot.
The three oldies I think are most likely to enter/re-enter are:
Linger
Someone Like You
Brown Eyed Girl
(I’d also give Ain’t No Mountain High Enough and Don’t Stop Me Now relatively decent outside shots).
I concur with Maestro - I also think “Don’t Look Back In Anger” surely can’t be miles off as it streams pretty well under normal circumstances.
When will Calm Down drop out the top 100
This will be the end of year top 10 I think
Stick Season
Espresso
Beautiful Things
Lose Control
Too Sweet
A Bar Song (Tipsy)
Please Please Please
Birds Of A Feather
Austin
Good Luck Babe
Chappell should have four in the top 100 at minimum I reckon. Hot to go has to be close right now then pink pony club can’t be too far behind either then there is a few others that might get there too. I wonder if Charli will get one?
I agree roughly with that too 10 prediction list but current trends favour good luck babe to be the highest of that group under shaboozy
I will be shocked if “Hot To Go” isn’t in when I get this week’s chart on Tuesday. “Red Wine Supernova” went silver only a week after “Hot To Go” so could appear before long if it keeps streaming well. “Pink Pony Club” only went silver this week so is a long way off at the moment.
Also looking set to have at least 3 in the year end chart are Sabrina, Taylor, Billie, Dua and… Chase & Status!
I think “Guess” might eventually make it now that it’s stopped freefalling.
I'd imagine a fair bit of those sales for 'Pink Pony Club' aren't from this year with it being 4 years old!

“Hot To Go!” And “Don’t Look Back In Anger” replaced “Daylight” and “Hell N Back” this week.
Alan Jones helpfully confirmed that “Brown Eyed Girl” is the YTD #105 with 319,903 sales this year and doing around 10k per week. I have the bar for the Top 100 at 327k right now and going up at about 8k per week, meaning that BEG should enter in a few weeks.
I can’t see beyond #100 but I’d have thought “Daylight”, “Hell N Back”, “Down Bad” and maybe “Redrum” are ahead of that “Brown Eyed Girl” total, so that potentially implies that there aren’t any other oldies knocking on the door of the Top 100 just now. If I’m wrong and “Redrum” is behind “Brown Eyed Girl” that likely means an oldie is lurking in the #101 to #104 zone.
Do you have any estimates for KEHLANI, CHIHIRO and WILDFLOWER.
I would’ve thought KEHLANI especially is close to entering.
I was of the impression that KEHLANI actually underperformed on Spotify but that’s clearly not the case.
Thank you.
Where is on my love? Surprised it's still here
Yeah I think wildflower will eventually creep in too. Taste is at 250k so can’t be too long for that one. Hopefully Espresso edges out Beautiful things but will be close
