FAQs

What is streaming? What are the chart rules regarding streaming?
For streaming and chart rules related FAQs read this thread.

How many streams equals one download sale?
100 plays if you are on Spotify Premium, or 600 if you are using the ad-supported free tier. However you cannot simply play a song that many times in one day to give it one sale, you are limited to 10 plays per day in terms of what counts to the chart. The number changes to 200 or 1200 plays when a song moves to ACR. For more information on the rules of ACR see this thread.

How much does streaming contribute to the chart?
Streaming contributes over 90% to the singles chart as a whole. Spotify counts for at least half of this, with Apple Music and Amazon also big contributors. YouTube is also big however most of YouTube's streams are at the free tier so won't count for as much.

Why is my fave not doing well?
Is it being promoted on a major curated playlist, and/or going viral on TikTok? If it isn't, it's unlikely to really take off! Hot Hits UK is the biggest of these playlists on Spotify from a UK standpoint. The playlist usually updates itself to include breaking hits once or twice a week, though there is no guarantee that your fave will get a place on the playlist. Also, the UK Top 50 is a largely followed playlist and that songs often experience a 'top 50 effect', when they enter the top 50 and get the additional exposure of being on the playlist. Often sales hits don't cross over to being streaming hits, this is usually the case for songs with an older target audience, reality or campaign songs. Also keep in mind that it often takes longer for a song to take off on Spotify than it would on iTunes.

My fave didn't debut high and is falling already, does this mean they're flopping?
Not necessarily. Most songs debut relatively low as they aren't instantly well-known, and experience a sharp decline on Day 2 as they no longer have the promoted 'New Music Friday' effect. A lot of songs manage to recover through gaining popularity and additions to playlists. Exceptions to the rule of course come from massively hyped releases, such as the recent album impacts from Drake and Taylor Swift.

Spotify

How do I see today's Spotify chart?
To see the daily top 50 update on desktop, log in to Spotify, click 'Browse', then click 'Charts', then click 'United Kingdom Top 50', or click the link below. For the full top 200, use the link below to go to Spotify's website. You can also use the Kworb website which displays the data in an easier to read format and also contains additional information, however this is often out of date.

https://open.spotify.com/user/spotifycharts/playlist/37i9dQZEVXbLnolsZ8PSNw [top 50]
https://charts.spotify.com/charts/view/regional-gb-daily/latest [top 200]
http://kworb.net/spotify/country/gb_daily.html [top 200 and extra data]

What are the most influential Spotify playlists?
Links to Spotify's top playlists are as below.

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/37i9dQZF1DXcBWIGoYBM5M

How often does the Spotify chart update?
It should update once every day, usually in the early afternoon - although on occasion there will be a delay.

What do the numbers mean?
The streaming figures cited in the daily chart are the number of streams each song received the previous day. Unlike the iTunes chart, Spotify is not a rolling chart so the numbers will only change once per day.

Apple Music

How do I see today's Apple Music chart?
You can use the link below to view the Apple Music top 100 through Kworb. If you have Apple Music, you can also view the top 200 by going to the Charts section and clicking on See All in the Top Songs section.

very dead week for newbies (again), Dua Lipa is #1 on NMF with a random album track These Walls
These Walls has also been added to HH but low as track #40 replacing Houdini, which is out of HH now

Posted by: Sour Candy 3rd May 2024, 07:10 AM

These Walls is such a bizarre choice for a focus track from the solid album imo.

Manifesting Kendrick for top ten officially on Friday!

Posted by: Bjork 3rd May 2024, 08:07 AM

have to agree there, These Walls doesn't really sound like single material

Posted by: Liam sota 3rd May 2024, 08:13 AM

11 tracks is a bit lazy but the promo been very solid, no vultures 2 as of yet and taylor’s songs finally dropping off so I think Dua will get #1.

Kendrick will be lucky to have get top 40, great diss track but they rarely have longevity especially not a 6+ minute one.

Sabrina now #1 on apple music

Posted by: Bjork 3rd May 2024, 08:37 AM

Dua said they got 100 songs so at least they should have gone with 12, 16 would have been perfect

No Lucy Spraggan feat Robbie Williams - Sober on music Friday

That flop now to just hope pineapple teddy swims acr this week be happy

It is there, just quite low down.

Not that it was ever going to be a hit anyway.

crazy it's track #119 on NMF smile.gif

Posted by: Jessie Where 3rd May 2024, 09:02 AM

'These Walls' is a cringe fest. Why that one?

Posted by: Bjork 3rd May 2024, 09:03 AM

but Pinneapple Teddy Swims will never leave the charts wink.gif

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 3rd May 2024, 09:09 AM

Added to Apple's Today's Hits:

18. Becky Hill - Right Here
30. Rachel Chinouriri - It Is What It Is
39. Teddy Swims - The Door
45. Tommy Richman - Million Dollar Baby

Can The Pineapple get another hit?

Posted by: Sour Candy 3rd May 2024, 10:46 AM

Fortnight down to #4 on Spotify - oops. I Can Do It with a Broken Heart will be the hit from the album in the long run I reckon.

Posted by: Bjork 3rd May 2024, 10:50 AM

#123 NEW Gracie Adams - Risk!!!! oh!!!

Posted by: DJ Cheeky Magpie 3rd May 2024, 11:22 AM

Gracie Abrams New one really good hope get in chart

Posted by: Bjork 3rd May 2024, 11:27 AM

oh Gracie Adams supported Taylor on the Eras tour, 1000% sure that's why it's charting today biggrin.gif hahaha

Taylor Swift is the new Carol Jones.

Sabrina also down on last week for the first time. Autoplay bonus wearing off? Hozier seems to have stabilised now so it seems likely she'll do the same. Good to see so many huge hits at the moment anyway!

Apple Music:

Dua Lipa - Radical Optimism

23. Illusion
26. Training Season

Hopefully Illusion gets a mega boost

I know it's because it's track 1 but super happy to see End of an Era as the highest album track. Should have been the focus track instead of These Walls

She’s got a few more showing up between #100 and #200 now too as well as new Becky Hill appearing.

I know expectations weren’t necessarily high for Dua but not even having the whole album top 200 on Apple at this point has to be disappointing right?

Not trying to hate, just wondering what the general opinion is.

I think "Falling Forever" would've been a great focus track (hoping it may get the single treatment at some point)!

Fingers crossed "Illusion" can get a big enough boost for a new peak. Although with the #8 doing 40k this week, that might be quite a big ask (likely will fall some next week but it's crazy high sales in the top 10 in general currently!).

Posted by: Sour Candy 4th May 2024, 04:25 AM

Very muted opening for Dua on AM. Hope Spotify will look better for her.

for Du Lipa? She's no Taylor, if you were expecting all her songs to do over 1 million... that's not gonna happen

Posted by: Liam sota 4th May 2024, 07:47 AM

I believe Dua is on SNL tonight, should be good promo. Taylor did 445k second week US so prob 190k third week can't see Dua beating that

She’s probably only going to open with 60-70k, no chance she’ll be anywhere near #1.

Posted by: Bjork 4th May 2024, 08:01 AM

I'm more interested in what happens to Dua's album in the UK, that's what matters this week, couldn't care less about her US performance

Yes SNL tonight can't wait w00t.gif

Dua also has 30min BBC Live Lounge special airing on Monday on BBC One but it's quite late at night 11.15pm. Then it's being played on Radio 1 on Tuesday night

I don't think the streaming numbers are gonna be great but she should sell a good amount of physicals

Will be interesting to see where Dua lands. I imagine the singles, These Walls and EOAE will do the best.

Crikey.

Dua Lipa:

23. Illusion
35. These Walls
37. Training Season
39. Houdini
89. End Of An Era
139. Watcha Doing
180. Falling Forever
186. French Exit

Other new entries:

157. Becky Hill - Right Here
164. Zerb & The Chainsmokers (feat. Ink) - Addicted

Posted by: Sour Candy 4th May 2024, 10:51 AM

That is low-key a flop for Dua. I can't believe how they messed up so badly with this era.

These Walls debuts at #40 WW.

Posted by: Zak 4th May 2024, 10:55 AM

Sad for Dua. How does this compare to FN, I think she at least had 3 in the top 10 right? It's a shame as I think this album is probably nearly as strong as FN but it doesn't have the same bangers so isn't resonating as much. Maybe overexposure has a role to play as well, she was just #1 with a smash hit last year and FN era didn't finish til 2022. Plus she's always getting major publicity no matter what.

Hope she can bounce back to getting full on smash hits, maybe a deluxe edition of the album that's a bit bouncier and psychedelic?

Posted by: Rob10 4th May 2024, 10:58 AM

Bad for Dua. She does not have a real solid fanbase. She has great label support from the start hence radio and streaming have backed her. This is the start of the end unfortunately of being hugely successful. Most people I know think her songs all sound the same now and that she lacks charisma to a certain extent.

The album will sell poorly after week 1.

Posted by: LouisL 4th May 2024, 11:00 AM

FN had all 3 singles top 5, 9 of the tracks in the top 50

That's a bit of doom and gloom laugh.gif I'm fairly sure the streaming numbers will be ok for a while, but overall popularity isn't on the level it could be with better strategy.

It is a bit negative but the streams speak for themselves. The way she performs is the same too in terms of the way she moves and dances. Just doesn’t feel natural. The pop landscape is fickle and you have to be extra special to survive a la Kylie and Madonna.

Lol she's spent a decade in the business already and is still getting hits. The numbers aren't incredible but the album is sitting at 700m streams or something on Spotify alone just from singles. She'll be perfectly fine. Her team can take notes from what's went right and wrong this era and work on it. Sounds like you just dislike her

Posted by: JosephBoone 4th May 2024, 11:12 AM

Reminder to be nice to each other, thanks x

Posted by: sammy01 4th May 2024, 11:13 AM

Releasing three singles before the album killed any hype as they were just the same sort of dance/pop sound as she has always done and each was progressively worse than the last.

There was no this sounds so different to what I expect from Dua Lipa I'm curious what the album sounds like. It was just more of the same.

All big artists have to reinvent themselves and elvolve their sound to stay ahead of the game, which is what Dua hasn't done. I think there will be another album quickly after this one (summer 2025) to try and get things back on track. Even Rihanna popping out an album a year had to jump genres, do ballads, different looks, styles to keep ahead of the game and people interested.

Posted by: Rob10 4th May 2024, 11:13 AM

I like some of her songs actually and she seems like a nice person. You can’t disguise the streaming for the album is poor. She has blanket Spotify support and 2 of the most streamed albums ever. All 11 tracks should be Top 50 on day 1 especially in the UK. Something is not clicking that is all I am saying. Plenty of others posting the same comments on other chart forums too!

Posted by: No Sleeep 4th May 2024, 11:25 AM

There goes her chance at a #1 album.

Also think this kinda proves those of us who pointed out that she was underperforming so far weren’t wrong to acknowledge it.

Posted by: Starlight 13 4th May 2024, 11:41 AM

Ouch @ Dua. Feel bad for her, she was so excited for this release and seems really proud of the album but the quality just isn't there. Hope she still has strong enough physicals to just nab the #1 officially but with streaming numbers this poor on day 1, I don't think it's happening

Posted by: Bjork 4th May 2024, 11:53 AM

I feel bad for Dua, she's the bestest UK popstar right now

But don't think doing bad on streaming will affect her chances at #1 on albums, it was all in the hands of physicals

Posted by: Jessie Where 4th May 2024, 11:56 AM

It is what it is! Oh well.

I hope she can pull it back and not end up having a Witness the next era!

Posted by: Mangø 4th May 2024, 12:01 PM

I guess Future Nostalgia was her imperial phase then, and that she's peaked commercially. Not that she still won't be capable of getting hits of course, but it seems like she won't get back to that level of success. I don't really know what went wrong for her, to my ears it's a solid pop album with some strong songs, but it obviously just hasn't clicked with the public as well as it should have. Releasing three pre-album singles was definitely a bad idea.

Posted by: Jessie Where 4th May 2024, 12:06 PM

I think having three top 10 hits on the album before it's out might have been a smart move for streaming longevity (as you need three decent sized hits on one album if it's gonna have any legs whatsoever), and of course we've got Glastonbury still to come.

I have to say the album is a real disappointment, and I really liked all three singles. It'll certainly be interesting to see what happens from here

Posted by: Addy! 4th May 2024, 12:47 PM

Disappointing numbers indeed.😔

The only blessing in disguise from this could be that maybe will get a new album as soon as next year, because I don’t see this era having longevity with already three singles out there!!!

Posted by: danG 4th May 2024, 12:52 PM

there's clearly no fourth hit on that album as it stands but I expect there'll be a deluxe edition of some kind before the year-end

I 100% agree. Very little charisma, qirh samwy sounding songs= recipe foe disastee. Also this album should have been released MONTHS ago. A lot of this is on her/ the label. Huge albums have been out now, plus any hype for this album has long since gone.

I’m not surprised for Dua. It’s a decent album but very beige. No major standouts unlike future nostalgia, where every song sounded like a hit.

Posted by: Envoirment 4th May 2024, 01:09 PM

QUOTE(danG @ 4th May 2024, 01:52 PM) *
there's clearly no fourth hit on that album as it stands but I expect there'll be a deluxe edition of some kind before the year-end

Really? I think a few songs could make decent singles. "Whatcha Doing", "Falling Forever" & "Maria" could all do well.

I also think "Happy For You" could be a sleeper hit as well. A nice change of pace from usual Dua.

Fingers crossed some of the songs go viral on TikTok.

I think they should do a 4th single with a significant feature. Perhaps "Happy For You (feat. Ariana Grande)" (Her vocals in the chorus give me slight Ari vibes) or something.

Then release a deluxe version later this year with a big mid-tempo ballad-type smash.

Whilst the initial numbers are disappointing, we could see the album hold on better than expected in streaming and in the long-term become a success with more singles/a deluxe version etc.

Also I've had Sabrina's "Espresso" play every single time I finish going through Dua's album. laugh.gif Not that I'm complaining. wub.gif

Interesting that the 'VHS' version of 'Million Dollar Baby' hasn't charted over here yet, it's at #30 in the US.

Katy ruined all chances of "Birthday" smashing with the music video. sad.gif Her music videos were a big part of her songs doing so well but the "Birthday" music video just wasn't it. The lyric video has 4x more views than the actual video.

I remember being excited her team picked it as the next single as it was a smash in the making and following the momentum of "Dark Horse" it should've been an easy top 10 hit. I was hoping she would've went all out with a sexy music video and even doing a Marilyn Monroe tribute on the part she whispers Happy Birthday.

Instead we got a video of Katy's humour.... sob.gif

A Marilyn Monroe video would have been perfect!!

Imagine a run of:

Roar
Dark Horse
Legendary Lovers
Walking on Air
Birthday

It would have rivalled Teenage Dream! Then she mase huge mistakes with singles with Witness too...

Posted by: BellyClarkson 4th May 2024, 02:15 PM

I don’t know why she didn’t put the Barbie single on the album? It sounds relatively similar and was a huge hit, it would have definitely helped streaming numbers and kept it around a bit longer from people listening to it. She’d also have a smash from this album on top.

Posted by: Addy! 4th May 2024, 02:25 PM

Yeah, I was so expecting DTN to have been a bonus album track just for streaming purposes...I guess they couldn't clear it due to being on Barbie album or something!

Anyways, the album has a potential...one of the Falling Forever, French Exit and/or Maria could take off if TikTok picks them up...both French Exit and Maria could do well in Europe because they both sound so catered to European market!!!

As of US, I feel like there's nothing in album to cater that market...Maybe Whatcha Doing feat. Bruno Mars or something!!!

not a bad sign really, it'd have been more of a surprise if he was actually charting at this point

to compare with the last two years:
Mae Muller re-entered May 10th, three days before the Eurovision final (she charted for one day upon the song's release beforehand)
Sam Ryder entered May 11th, three days before the Eurovision final

Ouch at These Walls sad.gif

Your Love (1985) coming to smash! It has over 800 million streams on Spotify already.

I’m a bit disappointed neither Beyoncé or Taylor have been able to have a “We Can’t Be Friends”-style smash along with their album releases

Posted by: danG 5th May 2024, 10:22 AM

Hadn't heard of that Outfield song but I guess it must have been going viral on TikTok for a short while now as it's already received a Diplo remix.

It was a big American hit back in the day but flopped in the UK chart though has gone Silver here in the digital age despite that.

Good hold for Illusion on Spotify, same can’t really be said for the rest of the album unfortunately. Clearly the public interest isn’t there at the moment.

Haven’t really listened to any of the diss tracks (although I did think Like That was quite good). General consensus seems to be that Kendrick is destroying Drake tho

Is this some sort of record?

Posted by: BellyClarkson 6th May 2024, 02:47 PM

These streaming numbers proving Fortnight was a terrible choice. Anybody with a brain could have known; I Can do it within a broken every or Down Bad were the most commercially viable single choices. Fortnight literally has no hook or catch? It’s like when she released the terrible End game because it had future and Ed Sheeran? She needs to stop making songs singles purely because they have a huge name collaborator, it doesn’t make a song stick..

Reckon it’ll continue declining relatively fast until the eras tour kicks in and it’ll stabilise, but hopefully she’ll release a proper second single by June. Dont think anybody even puts it in the top half of the 31 track list. Even failing the two obvious choices So Long London, But Daddy I Love Him, The Black Dog and Guilty As Sin would have all performed better also as they actually have a hook (these would have made sense as later singles after the first two though)

Posted by: 777666jason 6th May 2024, 03:02 PM

Unless it's already planned looking at the eras tour schedule theirs no time to promote a second single before the end of August,

Personally I see this album as a collective body of work rather than chasing hit after hit , plus theirs still 20 songs from the album top 100 almost 3 weeks later,

Definitely Taylor vs Olivia!! Cersei already forced her snd her friends on to her writing credits, tsking 50% from Olivia's biggest hits!!

She needs to stop something she's literally not done since ME! before Fortnight? Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the UK, the only collaborations she's released as singles, as the primary artist, since ME! have been You All Over Me (whether this was a single or not is debatable) and Karma (which was already a single before the Ice Spice remix came out).

Taylor can be criticised for many things but I'm not convinced this is one. I don't disagree that Fortnight perhaps wasn't the strongest single choice - as well as it's done - but Taylor's never been one to rely on big name collabs when she's such a big name on her own.

Was that Machine Gun Kelly 'Rap Devil' vs Eminem 'Killshot'. Those were marginally interesting as there was one a piece and that was that. The Eminem track was stronger than the actual singles he was promoting at that time IMO.

Looking at the Last.Fm stats for 'I Was Made For Lovin' You', it's had no rise there at all: https://www.last.fm/music/Kiss/_/I+Was+Made+for+Lovin%27+You

It's at #40 on iTunes though, and the Yungblud cover is at #33 and #51 there. The film's only doing ok here though, and bombing worldwide, so I don't see it going much higher unfortunately.

So yes, I'd say Noah's 154 consecutive days is a record by a LONG distance. Ironically though it's dropped below the mark today after surviving Sunday which is usually the lowest streaming day laugh.gif

How come Kendrick’s songs are doing far better than Drake’s? It’s like listening to half an argument. laugh.gif

I presume Kendrick's are being replayed more.

This whole rap diss thing is such a pathetic battle of fragile egos, I can't believe people are so invested in it.

I've read the Wikipedia article about it and it all screams playschool fighting, small dick, toxic masculinity energy. Although it's getting to a disturbing new level I see with allegations of paedophilia and domestic violence now. Ugly moment for the charts.

It's all you need. Drake and his ai/ his 75 ghost writers is shit. Hr has been destroyed by Kendrick's diss about that. No need to listen to that fraud.

Fortnight starting to ‘collapse’ now. I expect Kendrick will drop below again as the week continues still.

Shame for Dua. Hopefully can recover a bit after today with the commuter streams picking up again after the bank holiday.

It used to be fantastic. I was amazed how you could put a song of any genre, any language, any decade, and level of popularity, and it can somehow generate other similar songs. I've been using it for years because I'm often indecisive about what I want to listen to so it's nice just to play a song I like and let Spotify generate other songs I think I'll like. And I can discover new songs as well. Like if I want to discover more 90's underground house songs I can just put one on and then let autoplay give me loads more.

It's not as good now because they keep interfering with it and adding unrelated new releases (usually Espresso at the moment) in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd spot rather than letting the algorithm do its job, but I normally skip songs that I don't like or that I can tell shouldn't be there, so it's still not too bad.

Likewise sis!!!

I’m like skip!!!

Posted by: GTH 8th May 2024, 04:34 PM

Surely with those streams, even if there is an element of auto play, people clearly are not hating it so much as to skip it. We haven’t seen these kind of consistent numbers before from any other release we know has been boosted by auto play, so it is clear the success goes beyond that.

We are about to head into multiple days of sunshine, so would be surprised to see Espresso back over 1 mill again within the next few days.

Posted by: Addy! 8th May 2024, 04:57 PM

Obviously it’s the biggest hit of the moment, auto play or not!!!

Posted by: Envoirment 8th May 2024, 06:18 PM

I've recently started getting Beyoncé's "Bodyguard" as the autoplay after Dua's album. Likely due to my listening habbits but I would be here for "Bodyguard" becoming a big autoplay hit!

Pineapple is coming for another hit!

Posted by: jimwatts 9th May 2024, 10:18 AM

Looks like only one Kendrick song will make the Top 10 this week and I'd expect it to be 'Euphoria' that misses out, especially with it now falling behind Dasha.

Posted by: Sour Candy 9th May 2024, 10:21 AM

Listened to Chromatica (because of the tour film news obvs) and Espresso came on autoplay, they really are pushing it after all possible pop playlists and albums.

So she's been on autoplay/ had the boost for about a month now it seems laugh.gif And what with Taylor single handedly propelling her to the top spot on Spotify chart too.

Sabrina really has lucked out with this release.

God knows what sort of numbers she'd be doing if people liked the song/ it was popular.

Posted by: Sour Candy 9th May 2024, 10:31 AM

I can totally see why, it's an easy pop song and people are glad to listen to it and they might not pay attention that it always comes on.

Posted by: Rob 9th May 2024, 10:53 AM

The number of massive hits at the moment is insane. Most of the Top 10 could be #1 on a quieter week.

I think Million Dollar Baby is looking likely to climb to the runner up slot at least.

Whether it can top the charts will depend on Sabrina’s trajectory over the next few weeks.

Posted by: Sour Candy 9th May 2024, 06:20 PM

It's already #2 on Spotify combined, but yea, #1 depends on Espresso.

Amazon: #362
Apple Music: #92

Happy to see this being pushed as the next single. Should zoom up Amazon when they update their playlists.

Speaking of Amazon, I haven't done much of an update recently because it's been a mess with triple versions of Taylor's album tracks and such. It's looking much better now with a number of tracks getting new peaks:

Can we not just bring back the Frankee and Eamon typed Diss tracks

Posted by: rio309 9th May 2024, 10:34 PM

Are no Eurovision songs doing anything yet? Seems strange the semi finals have virtually no impact whereas after the final loads will appear.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 9th May 2024, 10:52 PM

The semi finals only get about 1.5 million-ish viewers, whereas the final gets about 10 million!

Eurovision doesn’t exist outside of the final to most people.
