I'm curious to hear Training Season since originally that was suppose to be the lead single before last minute switch!!!

Posted by: Juan Carlos 22nd January 2024, 10:47 PM

FYI, "Training Season" is one of eight songs of the album, including "Houdini", that was co-written by Dua Lipa, Caroline Ailin, Danny L Harle, Tobias Jesso Jr. and Kevin Parker.

Ooooh, so it does exist. Intrigued!

Posted by: One_For_Sorrow 23rd January 2024, 04:41 AM

Ooh is this all confirmed? So guessing we'll get it this Friday or next then.

Posted by: Juan Carlos 24th January 2024, 08:03 PM

Next month.

From https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/25481476/dua-lipa-argylle-training-season/:

QUOTE
The Sun can also reveal Dua is gearing up to release the follow-up to her recent single "Houdini", which will be called "Training Season". "Houdini" peaked at No. 2 in the UK charts when it was released last November.

In "Training Season", set for release next month, she sings about playing the field as a single woman. A source said: ""Training Season" is the perfect follow on from "Houdini". It's very much in the same vein and even has a slight crossover on the lyrics. The track is an electric dance earworm that will no doubt go down a treat with fans."

Didn't The Sun report last month that the music video was pulled because it was insensitive to the Gaza conflict?

Posted by: Addy! 24th January 2024, 09:11 PM

omg she just send us via text a 10 second clip...I feel like Physical 2.0 is upon us cheeseblock.png

Yes, that's correct. There's a possibility that some scenes of the video were cut and replaced because it seems that this video was sponsored by Porsche.

Also, as a side note, there was some information that Dua shot a music video on January 11 in LA, although it's unknown whether it's for "Training Season" (in case that first video was totally shelved) or another song.

Nice but we need the album date and title too. Why the release date is 3 weeks away?

Looking forward to this of course!

cheer.gif loved 'Houdini' and am very much ready for more.

It's (finally) post-Christmas payday tomorrow so treated myself to the £6.97 vinyl, CD and cassette bundle - a bargain compared to the prices I paid for the Ariana physicals recently laugh.gif

Curious to hear what it sounds like.

Ooh, exciting! Loving the prospect of Kevin Parker potentially co-writing eight songs on the album (even if it does mean Tame Impala's next album won't come very soon)

Posted by: Addy! 25th January 2024, 10:08 PM

I’m sure she’s giving Houdini that extra push in US by performing on Grammy’s, while this will be performed at the Brits!!!

There is 30 second clip on YT and after the chorus there is a synth piece which sounds heaven wub.gif

Posted by: Sour Candy 26th January 2024, 07:33 AM

She will probably perform DTN and Houdini at the Grammys considering the former is nominated.

“‘Training Season’ is about my training season being over and me growing with every experience. I have never felt more confident, clear or empowered. And while it may be that training season is never over for any of us, you start to see the beauty in finding that person to experience it with. You stop looking for the trainees and become more interested in having someone where you are and someone to grow with.” — @DUALIPA on #TrainingSeason

Confident queen making us wait till the 15th 😭😭 Great that the physicals are on pre-order already. That should help it with a nice chart debut

Posted by: sammy01 26th January 2024, 01:33 PM

Confidence? More like not confident to go up against the numbers Noah, Sophie and others are pulling in currently.

Oh bore off. I was referring to the meaning behind the song.

Posted by: sammy01 26th January 2024, 02:48 PM

That isn't how it reads but fair enough if that is actually what you meant.

It would be wise for any artist right now to hold off a few weeks, if Ariana cant get to number 1 throwing the iamspamspamamisink at it then no other artist will. Even getting top 3 at the moment is a big ask.

Posted by: Rob10 26th January 2024, 03:11 PM

Dua Lipa is so bland. She lacks star quality. Her voice/songs all sound the same.

Her performance style is very samey too. She is a product of Payola.

I am a Dua fan but this sounds underwhelming again. It really is too copy and paste at this point.

I need her to have her 'Slow' or 'Ray of Light' moment now.

Posted by: Rob10 26th January 2024, 03:53 PM

Did I hit a nerve. She is so boring. No charisma. Faceless songs. Just like Katy Perry.

This new song sounds just like the others. I watched her tour on Youtube and she just does not have any originality.

She seems like a nice person though.

This album will struggle and early reviews of her performance the new film are not favourable either.

She’s not everyone’s cup of tea and that’s fine!!!

She’s only on album number 3 and comparing her already to other artists it’s not fair nor legit!!!

Also asking her to have a Tay Of Light moment when Madonna herself didn’t have that moment till Album 7 is ridiculous laugh.gif

Why are you here hating on Dua? You sound jealous.

Posted by: Sour Candy 26th January 2024, 09:49 PM

Whoa at sudden flood of negative posts... but I kinda agree that serving bop after bop without taking risks only takes an artist to certain point, both commercially and artistically.

Posted by: k👠th 27th January 2024, 05:26 AM

Where are these random claims that she's unoriginal and faceless coming from? Future Nostalgia, Don't Start Now (hello did anyone forget that era!?) was a game changer and brought back disco into the mainstream. Then everyone else and their mother was found jumping onto the disco trend. Even now, there's nothing else on the radio at the moment that sounds like Houdini. She has carved out her own clearly recognizable sound that people love.

If Dua was boring and a product of Payola, she wouldn't be touring arenas all over the world and have the 2 most streamed albums by a female artist of all time. Fair enough if you don't like her but don't talk SHITE.

Posted by: Rob10 27th January 2024, 10:52 AM

She has no originality as a performer. She is just very average. The average person won’t/can’t remember any of her videos, looks or performances. Yes her last album was successful but again mainly due to Spotify playlisting. Yes some of the songs were great too.

What I mean is she is a bit like Katy Perry - big hits but a limited fanbase.

As for the arena tour it was not very big in the UK or as extensive given the album/singles being big hits.

No issue with Dua she will struggle unless she can create her own identity. Without Spotify and radio support she has a small fanbase. She is no Britney, Madonna, Kylie, Beyonce, Rihanna or Gaga. She has not immersed herself with the general public due to there being nothing really special about her.

Her fanbase has grown since Future Nostalgia. Obviously she's not a legend like those artists you mentioned and that's fine. She is embracing being "a main pop girl" and growing as a performer. She is in her own lane right now. GP associate her with funky, disco style pop music. Her voice is instantly recognizable. I think Danny L Harle said it quite well in his interview for Rolling Stone

QUOTE
As Harle sees it, Lipa is the last of a dying breed. “I think she is going to be one of the last superstars of pop music,” he asserts, pointing out how “pluralistic” culture is now because of how algorithms have changed music discovery.

“The younger generation won’t break through culture on all levels of culture. The idea of the superstar will change in the future, and Dua will be one of the final ones.

They are crazy for not releasing Training Season off the back of that

Training Season sounds great cheeseblock.png I agree, it's an interesting decision to preview it in an extremely high profile performance but not have it available for almost 2 more weeks. ohmy.gif

Even though her bundle is very reasonably priced (£6.97 for a cd, vinyl and cassette) I'm a little put off pre-ordering it because of the shipping charge. I mean normally I wouldn't think twice about that, but after Dance the Night and Houdini postage charges being free... I kind of expect to be burned by a "shipping now free!" announcement in a couple of weeks if I ordered it now. thinking.gif

Training Season sounds pretty decent to me. I do think the material is a slight step down but then Future Nostalgia was pretty much a PERFECT pop album that anyone would struggle to replicate so we're still talking really solid singles here. Houdini in particular has grown on me no end

Order a Houdini CD or Cassette at the same time... Postage vanishes (you just pay 99p for the CD or Cassette instead!)

(I only know this because I didn't already have the Houdini CD, so thought I'd see what happened when I added it... Then again, free postage may happen eventually, I just didn't wanna miss out on the vinyl!)

Seemingly not! I must have got in there before they noticed... Houdini gets another sale it might have not had from me though!

Now I'm gutted I missed out on the Houdini vinyl and Dance the Night CD. I think if I had those I'd have a complete UK singles collection, not sure if any other Dua singles got a physical release (I know a couple got German CD releases, and maybe a couple of her features had a physical release too?)

Well I mean 121 after a few weeks is pretty bad let’s be real https://kworb.net/charts/apple_s/us.html but predicting the scale of a former powerhouses decline isn’t a fine science. I remember Katy Perry’s decline and seems similar here to me. Dua Lipiarna can still be successful with theatre or selling perfume but her music career is pretty much done in my opinion but some people will be slow to let go so I guess we’ll just it play out

Anyone else hearing massive ABBA vibes from this?

Way way way stronger than ‘Houdini’ and feels finally like she’s not giving us a Future Nostalgia reject. This manages to keep her signature sound, but also take it to new places too? This feels much fresher. I’m on board.

Posted by: Liаm 15th February 2024, 11:26 PM

This is very Tame Impala does ABBA, absolutely love it! As I expected, Kevin Parker production is really taking her to the next level for me. It feels like she’s doing something so fresh that only she could do rather than jumping on any trend or rehashing what she’s done before.

Posted by: J00prstar 15th February 2024, 11:27 PM

Adored both this and 'Houdini' from the get go, and been hooked on both. The chorus on this is so addictive.

The video is really shite though, but I suppose understandable if they were forced to film another one at short notice.

Omg this

The chorus is like a sledgehammer to my brain. I'm just want to strut as soon as those first chords come in.

Posted by: One_For_Sorrow 16th February 2024, 09:11 AM

This is quite impressive. I wasn’t huge in Houdini but this is an improvement for me. Added it to my 2024 playlist.

Posted by: blacksquare 16th February 2024, 09:36 AM

This is such a slam-dunk — that chorus. The genius of blending essentially an ABBA melody with Tame Impala production. The album is going to be it.

Posted by: Liam.k. 16th February 2024, 11:00 AM

I’m liking this more than I did Houdini on initial listens, although that did grow on me a lot. I think I need to stop myself comparing this era to Future Nostalgia - these are good, solid pop songs, it’s just that Future Nostalgia was such a 10/10 era.

Not really getting the ABBA vibes others are getting.

Posted by: Scene 16th February 2024, 11:55 AM

What an event of a song! I think it’s even more instant than Houdini and DTN. Surely this screams massive global hit??! Really hoping it’s another UK #1 and US top 10 for Dua at the very least!

THIS! Last night I felt a bit disappointed because I thought the chorus was going to hit a bit harder as the song went on, but it stayed a bit more understated. But, I've got it LOUD on my laptop today and it really does slap in a unique way.

Her VOCALSSSSS.

I do still prefer Houdini tho x

Posted by: Tafty³³³ 16th February 2024, 02:47 PM

I like it. Not loving it though. It's hard to describe exactly, but it kinda feels like to me, that it's one stage too early from being finished.

The hook/chorus is an earworm and catchy though and like I said I don't dislike it at all. Would welcome it being a hit, but I'm probably not in this one for the long haul and will probably be bored of it by about week 5 or something. We'll see though. I have it in my rotation so hopefully it'll grow on me to the point it's at for you guys.

She’s so consistent tbh like even if a song is not fully my taste I don’t think I’ve heard bad song from her !

Posted by: Sour Candy 16th February 2024, 03:36 PM

Agree. But I need a ballad from her, she has proven herself so many times with bops.

Posted by: Gerald 16th February 2024, 03:48 PM

I like this too but not loving it. I wasn’t impressed with the single version at all but the extended version allowed me to get into it and created a more pleasant listening experience for me.

Houdini clicked for me right away in comparison.

Posted by: JLJ 16th February 2024, 07:24 PM

I still don’t think the sound difference is that drastic from Future Nostalgia era. She’s found her stride now with the sort of artist she is and that’s fine but it’s not like she’s went from a Like a Prayer to Erotica or American Life to Confessions on a Dancefloor style sound overhaul.

I think on first listen Houdini was more for me but I will give this another chance. Should easily be another hit for her we’ve seen since her debut now that her singles always end up having huge staying power but I’m still waiting for the huge wow moment from DL3 that both her debut and Future Nostalgia had plenty of.

I wouldn't go off iTunes chart as an indicator in all honesty.

Numbers are out already for whatever hours it was available and it did 216k (main version) on Spotify last night and 330k (combined all versions).

Hopefully 5 million plays for the full day, same as Houdini debut!!!

Bundles count for however many is in that bundle.

I.e. A CD + Cassette bundle will be 2 sales. A CD + Cassette + Vinyl will be 3 sales etc... (I believe that's how it works/it's the only way to make any sense of bundles being a thing imo laugh.gif)

Talk of the Charts are predicting this to debut at #26 on the US Hot 100. Really weird that it hasn't officially impacted radio there yet

Posted by: Sour Candy 25th February 2024, 01:10 PM

Houdini is gaining in top ten in airplay there (#8) and DTN is still #31. They don't want to risk that Houdini's rise will stop because of Training Season. It will be serviced to radio when Houdini starts its decline I would assume.

It could end up being similar situation to Don't Start Now / Physical prior to Future Nostalgia. Physical was never sent to radio there and then the third single Break My Heart was a big airplay hit.

Only a 1000 sales increase this week after a huge Brit performance opener is disappointing.

Brits impact were inexistent unless your name was Raye that night!!!

Posted by: pippa 10th March 2024, 03:50 PM

Raye stole the show and as a result all the other performers appear to have been overlooked.

It’s fine…make room for Illushion

Posted by: k👠th 13th April 2024, 08:53 AM

It will crash straight out the top 40 if it goes ACR cry.gif I was hoping it could avoid until the album release for a more lengthy top 40 run

It's quite high in the album track list so potentially could get reset anyway

Radio in the US appear to be dropping this in favor of Illusion. A shame as it's climbing back up the Hot 100 again

Training Season doing well in Europe, top 5 in Belgium, top 10 in Netherlands and top 20 in France this week!

Posted by: k👠th 18th April 2024, 07:33 AM

Looks like this is definitely not swerving ACR sad.gif Spotify streams have decreased week on week

EDIT: It's on ACR, here comes the big drop
