BuzzJack Music Forum _ Harry Styles and One Direction _ Harry Styles - As It Was

Posted by: The Kid JOSEPH 3rd February 2022, 06:57 PM

The Sun reporting Harry's shooting a music video in London - we can't be far off now!

QUOTE
A music source said: “Harry is shooting a music video in the capital over the next few days.

“The shoot is top secret and information is only being disseminated on a need-to-know basis.

“It was scheduled for three days and what they’re planning is pretty ambitious.

“Harry is using a tried and tested formula too, as he has enlisted the brains behind his Watermelon Sugar video to shoot it.

“Bradley and Pablo, who are directors from Los Angeles, have come up with an amazing concept just like they did last time.

“Harry’s fans absolutely loved that and the whole team working on the shoot are convinced this video will be just as successful.”

Posted by: Bustin Jieber 28th March 2022, 04:21 PM

I think he's in a strong position to achieve a #1 debut next week, there isn't exactly astoundingly strong competition right now.

Posted by: awardinary 28th March 2022, 04:33 PM

Oh what happened to Duvet? Was that not even a thing then?

Oh what happened to Duvet? Was that not even a thing then?

It was listed as the title of the video he filmed in London near Buckingham Palace - it could have been a placeholder or just for a different song altogether!

Posted by: JosephStyles 28th March 2022, 06:57 PM

Video out alongside the song! Will be track 4 on Harry's House, 2:47 long.

Posted by: dannjohn 30th March 2022, 09:00 AM

Posted by: Shumzee 30th March 2022, 06:06 PM

Very promising! I'd love him to get a #1 debut and shake things up at the top a bit! I think there's going to be a lot of goodwill going this way after the Fine Line era was huge.

It has such a great vibe and after just a couple of plays, it's really catchy too, it's stuck in my head! The video matches the song perfectly too heart.gif Could have done with maybe one more chorus at the end but that's most pop songs these days lol.

I won't write it off though, I trust it's a grower.

I mean, that's a pretty similar group of artists, isn't it? It's clear to me Harry has always been inspired by 70s/80s rock whilst still being able to evolve that sound.

When I first started listening this morning, I was a little underwhelmed, but it got me by the second verse and I have listened a few times since and watched the video a couple of times.

It's has a great, chilled-out vibe and doesn't feel too far removed from Fine Line.

And Harry Styles is far too attractive for his own good, to be honest blush.gif

From Hits Daily Double

QUOTE
With "As It Was," Columbia superstar Harry Styles is in the running for the biggest single-day streaming total in the history of Spotify, possibly surpassing Adele's single-day total for "Easy on Me."

Though numbers are still being tabulated, our statisticians tell us that the first-day activity on this song is through the roof. As we reported earlier, "As It Was" is also killing it at other DSPs, while the video is racking up giant numbers on YouTube. The track is likewise blowing up at Pop radio, flying toward the top of the chart.

Could Harry's new one become the biggest song of 2022? We wouldn't be remotely surprised. Stay tuned.

Broken the record for biggest single-day streams on Spotify for a song by a male artist with 16.1 million streams! 4th biggest peak on US Spotify too, over 6x as many streams as #2, and over double #2 in the UK.

Posted by: Chez Wombat 2nd April 2022, 05:05 PM

I like this! The synth riff is a bit reminiscent of A-ha's Take on Me and there's a slight Scandi-pop vibe to it, which is always a great resemblance, and the song itself is definitely quite timeless in sound. Not got a big chorus, but I think the subtlety works in its favour here. I mean I might tire of it later, but I'll take him dominating the charts over Ed Sheeran easily x

I've only been able to hear it as this all day since reading this tearsmile.gif

Loving this so much, I'm hearing a lot of early 10s indie-pop (very Two Door Cinema Club) in it tbh. I'm glad it's smashing so instantly and effortlessly - Fine Line obviously surpassed all expectations so I can't even begin to imagine how big this era will be! ohmy.gif

Posted by: Sour Candy 3rd April 2022, 05:50 AM

I don't think the first two days of the first single indicate much about the era.

Just like Easy on Me smashed but the 30 era itself doesn't seem to be bigger than it predecessor and we've seen numerous cases like that before

As for the song, it's brilliant but once it has got going it doesn't really build on and ends so soon. It's probably not a bad thing for radio and streaming but it doesn't really have the evergreen vibe that Watermelon Sugar has in it either.

Article from Music Week

QUOTE
Harry Styles’ return with new single As It Was is all going to plan.

As well as breaking a Spotify one-day record, the former One Direction member is set to debut at the summit in the UK with As It Was (Columbia Records). According to early sales and streaming data from the Official Charts Company for the First Look chart, Harry Styles is on course to replace Dave’s Starlight at No.1 with more than double the consumption at this stage.

If it does maintain its lead until Friday (April 8), As It Was would become Harry Styles’ second UK No.1. He last reached the summit in 2017 with debut solo single Sign Of The Times.

Spotify announced that As It Was became the most streamed song in the US in a single day in Spotify history with 8.3 million streams. The record was previously held by Olivia Rodrigo’s Drivers License with eight million one-day streams.

Spotify also confirmed that As It Was became the most streamed song globally in a single day in 2022 so far with 21.6m streams, a record previously held by Anitta’s Envolver with 8.6m streams in March. Styles has 34.2m monthly listeners on Spotify.

As It Was broke Apple Music streaming records too. It received the most first day worldwide streams of any Spatial Audio release on Apple Music since the immersive audio experience launched in June 2021. Additionally, the track broke the record as the highest streaming first-day release of 2022.

The new single from Harry Styles amassed more than two million streams in the UK on its day of release (April 1). The video is approaching 30 million views (as of April 3).

Styles’ biggest UK single to date is Watermelon Sugar, which has sales of 1,760,918. Although it made No.1 in the US, Watermelon Sugar peaked at No.4 in the UK.

Like Watermelon Sugar, As It Was is a co-write with songwriters and producers Kid Harpoon (Thomas Hull) and Tyler Johnson, both trusted collaborators of Styles. Kid Harpoon and Styles are with UMPG for music publishing, while Hull is signed to Pulse Music.

The new single, combining ’80s-style synth-pop with driving indie-rock, has been widely praised by music critics as an indication of Styles’ sure touch and confidence as a returning solo artist.

Styles’ third solo album, Harry’s House, is released on May 20. It will be followed by touring including stadium dates.

The release of new music could boost 2019 sophomore album Fine Line, which has UK sales to date of 574,935.

This is really outstanding, can't stop playing it atm.

The Two Door Cinema Club comparison in an earlier post is really on the money which probably explains why I like this so much as they're one of my fave indie bands.

#2 in First Look behind the new Jack Harlow song but the gap is less than 2k, hopefully Harry can reclaim the #1

Posted by: JosephStyles 11th April 2022, 05:22 PM

It was obvious but glad to have it confirmed!!

Just a few hundred behind Jack now in the UK mids so a 2nd week is looking likely!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 11th April 2022, 05:37 PM

Ya he is only about 500 behind so i really think he will hold on.

Harry has a 4k lead now so he should safely get his 2nd week at number 1.

This week’s sales: 63,873 | Downloads: 2,667 |
Streams: 61,206 | Total sales to date: 293,789 |

I'm wondering if this can spend longer at #1 than everything 1D related has combined to date.

I think it's possible AIW stays #1 until he replaces himself during album week if they launch a single then. It doesn't seem like First Class is doing enough to get the #1 this week because of Harry's lead on Spotify and iTunes. Kendrick Lamar is coming back next week with a new album which I think will be his biggest threat, but it's hard to tell how much Kendrick's success will translate in the UK. A 7 week #1 would be crazy.

Posted by: pippa 14th May 2022, 09:15 AM

Incredible for Harry to have his 6th week at Number 1.

Posted by: SevenSeize 14th May 2022, 02:05 PM

Never thought I'd see a full-on indie pop song like this dominating the chart for months! glad to see Harry using his power for good

btw if you're stanning this and you don't have Dayglow on your playlists, I urge you to fix that

Posted by: pippa 5th June 2022, 11:24 AM

How great it will be, if As it Was makes it for its 10th week at Number 1 this week.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 22nd July 2022, 05:08 PM

Posted by: JosephBoone 12th May 2024, 05:17 PM

Indeed it was, not sure why though!

Posted by: Scene 16th May 2024, 07:45 AM

Could it be because of the Ivor Novellos? They are in a week or so.

Posted by: JosephBoone 16th May 2024, 06:33 PM

It was an automatic reset for an increase of above 25% in streams, so wouldn't be because of that!
