I hate it when they capitalise stuff to make it seem like a bigger issue than it is. Jesy has really come into her own as a vocalist and performer. To me she's the most exciting vocalist of the group. She's very versatile and can surprise you with her range and power. I feel like she's become their secret weapon as she nails uptempo and you feel every emotion she pours into ballads. I just love how far she's come, especially with all who dogged her in the beginning. I think she's fabulous.

Literally, took the words right out my mouth. I've always found her to have the most unique voice of the group; maybe not "technically" the strongest, but yes, easily the most exciting. She beat both Jade & Leigh-Anne (who didn't appear in the top 10 )!
Jesy has become so cool and confident. It's great watching people not from the UK react to Little Mix on youtube and find her the most attractive, the coolest, and the 'leader' of the group, that feels like a big shift from when they first started out.
Also the orange hair on her is gorgeous.

I know that Jesy is generally cancelled by the internet for no apparent reason but I'm really surprised that not one person has bothered to mention that she's been commissioned to front a new BBC Three documentary about mental health and body image. Really pleased for her, especially as she wasn't given the easiest ride when Little Mix first started out. I'm looking forward to seeing what she has to say
6 months ago this girl was someone I just wanted to forget. I wanted to erase her from my mind and everyone else’s memory. I didn’t see her as Jesy I saw her as “the fat one from Little Mix”. Up until now I hated her not because she’d ever done anything bad but because I was made to hate her by endless amounts of trolling. Since filming my documentary for @bbcone and @bbcthree I’ve learned so much more than I ever expected to. Thanks to all the inspirational people I’ve met on this emotional journey, I now love the girl in this photo. I’ve made this documentary for 2011 Jesy and for anyone who might be feeling like she did. I refused to speak about how I was feeling for so long. I was embarrassed and scared to. But I was so wrong to feel that way. Please if you are feeling how I did, SPEAK ABOUT IT. Talk to your family, speak to your friends, there’s always help out there. I genuinely think a Jesy solo album would grate on me, ngl. Her voice is a bit much for me (although perfect for Little Mix - she her voice holds the harmonies really well). However, I honestly think she'd do the best as a solo artist (although Perrie has a huge fanbase). People can identify her voice right off the bat and they seem to love it so much, due to how different it is. Which is fair enough, just that for me, I don't think I'd take to it too much, personally.

Fully agree, it grates on me. The over use of vibrato in particular. It’s such a shame coz when she sings well she’s brilliant but this seems to be few and far between. I wish she’d sing like she does on songs like secret love song because she’s outstanding on that. The breathy, whispery vibrato vocals does nothing for me. But I agree she holds the harmonies well. A bit like Leigh-Ann she can either sing very well or sound very flat and thin. Jade and Perrie are the consistent ones who hold it all together imo.

I doubt she's left. The other girls have been on social media constantly since the album dropped and all of them seem upbeat and full of laughter/energy as always. Perrie was literally down at Tesco buying the album and Leigh/Jade have been on live interacting discussing the album and The Search.
I feel like if there was anything serious or she had quit there'd be silence from all the girls and they wouldn't be getting on with things as normal.

Agreed. I'm also quite certain we'd have heard about it by now had it been anything more.
The girls are just giving her the time to heal and they're doing it magnificently. Just praying that she's OK and she's clearly taking time away from social media too (rightfully so).
She's had a tough couple of months it seems. Maybe being thrown into such a schedule after so long away took it's toll on her more than we can know. The live lounge panic attack and it being filmed wouldn't have helped.
EDIT: Even, still. No matter what happens, whether she's left or just taking a break, lets not jump to conclusions until it's actually been formally announced. None of us know what is happening right now.

She probably can't, we don't actually know what the ins and outs of their contracts are, especially now with RCA as their Syco contract will be long dead.
If she needed to take a leave of absence for a month or two, then they would permit that. I can't imagine that they would tie Jesy down to doing all of this when she is on the verge.

I think that’s the point. If they keep acknowledging Jesy people are going to ask. They referenced her on Sunday during the EMAs Instagram posts, which was to shut down the annoying rumours people were circulating. This is definitely mental health related, she just needs a rest.

Yeah. The girls have mentioned/used images of her in social media posts recently (unlike that random time when people assumed she wasn't added to that bundle thing, but it was just that she'd sold out) even when they posted their EMA's performance on Facebook they posted "We miss you Jesy <3" as well as talking about tour performances using the 4 of them etc..
I'm not concerned yet, I just hope she's using this time away to heal a bit and I am ready for whatever she decides to do in the future. But I'm not going to take anything as official unless she comes forward and gives a statement.

for someone who is usually quite active on social media to suddenly disappear with little-to-no explanation, not turning up to events, turning off tagging on socials and not wanting to be mentioned - it’s going to raise alarm bells.
her mental health is the #1 priority in it all but, unfortunately for jesy, being a celebrity of her stature won’t fully allow the downtime that we think she’s after.
i really hope i’m wrong but it feels like she’s quit + instead of announcing it straight away, they’re giving her some time to think about it before announcing it. if she was having a mental health break, why not be upfront about it from the get-go? they wouldn’t even need to say it’s a mental health thing - they could just be upfront + say that, after seeking medical advice, jesy is taking some time off.

If Jesy has left the band I definitely don’t think she’ll be replaced.
With the Sugababes the first line up change was at a time when they were like *just* about to really break through so it didn’t matter too much they got someone else as they’d only had one album. It got more ridiculous when they got to line up four but Little Mix have been together 9 years and we’ve had six whole albums with the four of them. I could see them potentially having an era as a three piece but if Jesy (tbh not just Jesy but any of them) called it a day I don’t think they’d bring in someone new. There’s too much history between them all and when you’ve been a band for as long as they have to bring someone new in almost a decade in wouldn’t sit right even if it was the most talented vocalist / strongest dancer there is they’d just not feel like Little Mix.

this is one of the very few bands where if a member left they could never be replaced. they all add a very specific touch that you can never put ya name on. arguing about each members' strong or low points is so boring and quite offensive tbh. theyr're all incredibly taslented and work so well together.

I don't like this "is she leave?" situation. some K-pop and J-pop girls/boys band members had same mental health issues, and that members just got few months break. and the bands are still go on. they're NOT leaving the band.
I thinks Jesy needs time but don't need to LEAVE.

I’m glad they’ve confirmed it’s an extended leave just to put everything to bed and stop the media and fans constantly stating she was missing from this that and the other...
I hope she feels better soon, It’s just not the same without her. Hopefully she’ll be back for the tour and she can enjoy that and have a blast performing the new album.
I thought she was great on The Search too, she really said it how it was and I loved how she was always totally honest.
The girls are handling it all so well too, shows what an amazing friendship they have because they respect Jesy and are clearly more than happy to let her have her time away.

Definitely wishing her the best but I don’t have good vibes about this.
I really honestly think she’s left the group now but they’re hoping that she can be talked round after this break to try and change her mind but to even announce something like this shows whatever is going on is serious.
I can see the upcoming tour being pushed back anyways because of COVID related issues anyways not anything to do with the group dynamics but I’d be surprised if Jesy comes back or again I’d be surprised if the break wasn’t less than like 6 months.

Nobody is saying that it’s ‘fake’ though- it’s entirely possible that Jesy’s health isn’t in the best place and she has just said that she has quit and the girls have told her to take some time off and think about I.e the extended break.
Has it been confirmed that this is Jesy’s mental health? I just keep seeing them confirming medical reasons but not actually her mental health but I may have missed it.
It’s not hard to accept what you’ve said above, but the circumstances have been odd regardless of whether we don’t deserve any further info etc so people are going to speculat.e.

We all know about Jesy's mental health struggles in the past and 2020 has been extra rough on most of us...so it's quite clear Jesy is going through IT at the moment and whether or not that means she ends up working with the girls or decides it's better for her safety to distance herself for a while - we should just respect that and wish her the best at the moment.

I didn’t say any of it was fake it’s clearly genuine like they’re obviously not making it up. But I personally don’t see her returning soon and I feel like the extended break might be longer than what people are assuming.
I’d also imagine they wouldn’t be constantly asking her to change her mind too. They’re clearly giving her time away from the band which is something she needs but she may well decide on her own that she doesn’t want to go back to the band (or decided she does). I imagine the other girls are all there for her and are / have been in contact with her wishing her the best as best friends would and work / their new album likely isn’t even on their mind at the moment now release week has passed.

They're not going to say outright IF Jesy has left while there's a new album to shift. Give it till the new year and the CDs already manufactured have been bought as Christmas presents and then they can announce it's all over. I hope it's just the cynic in me typing this and that the group continue as the 4 of them but, I got burnt once already with "Get Well Soon, Geri."

I do honestly believe Jesy needs some time out. We don't know waht's going on in her life, but I Do wish her the best. Without her, there is NO Little Mix. Infact, so many of my friends who are casual LM fans refer to LM as "Jesy and girls". Yes! She's the face of LM.

What difference does it make to the album sales if she's left now? People aren't going to pick up the Confetti CD and put it back down because Jesy isn't there any more, or avoid streaming it for that reason.
If anything her leaving would probably boost their sales due to the sheer amount of media attention it would generate.

i completely disagree. if jesy is a fans favourite, i wouldn’t have thought they’d want to invest in the band she didn’t want to be in anymore? all the formats of the album, combined with the jesy picture vinyl, the cassette etc maybe getting returned - i don’t think the label would want to take the risk.
it’s not just the album either, they have the tour to think about. the amount of jesy fans that may not want to go because she’s not there would be a frightening prospect for the tour promoter/management.

But it would take publicity away from the release if they announced her departure at this point, not to mention the spotlight from their TV show winners, so from their point of view I definitely do see why they wouldn’t announce Jesy’s departure at this time if she had decided to leave.
Again though, we don’t even know that Jesy’s absence is MH related and everything is an assumption - she’s had struggles before sure but it’s not to say that something else has happened!

i don’t remember suggesting that everyone would return their album.
i was talking about why the label/ the group may not want it to come out if she has left - purely speculative. thinking outside the fandom who have their own money, a large portion of their fans are younger people who don’t buy the albums, tickets, merch themselves. parents or relatives buying the cd for the child for christmas, or thinking about buying tickets for the tour, may think twice about buying it if jesy’s their favourite + her presence in the band going forward is up in the air.
but again - we don’t know anything other than her having some time off so hopefully she’s getting the help she needs + feels better.

Like I don't need an explanation but its weird not to say "jesys not here at the moment", or "Jesy is having some time away". I think pretending they're a 3-piece is odd. People are going to analyse the fact that they don’t mention her at all even more though surely?
I actually think that the whole silence around the topic is making it the elephant in the room and more of a talking point, the way they’re handling it is strange. Of course Jesy deserves privacy etc but she can still have that whilst acknowledging that she isn’t there at the moment particularly in an interview setting when all they have to say is that she’s taking time off as per their original statement - no questions asked etc.
I think given that Jesy of all the girls has been an open book and has opened up about her struggles etc just seems jarring with the silence that is present - again I’m not suggesting we get the ins and outs or even a reason as to what is going on, but am not acknowledging it is definitely partly why the rumour mill is in overdrive.
(I’ll say again, I’m not expecting Jesy’s reasons to be made public and appreciate and respect her entitlement to privacy, I’m referring to reiterating what they’ve already told us to a wider audience)

I think they probably will say things at some point but I understand why, a week after they make a statement that specifically says they will not be saying anything else on the matter, they aren’t going to address it on Jonathan Ross.
I think the statement they posted managed to get the word out well enough. I also think it’s probably not easy for the girls to talk about either and so if they don’t want to, I get it.

I'm confused by that too, but it seems to be the way it's heading right now!
I wish her all the best though! Intrigued to hear a solo record but Idk if I'll be on board as I'm not TOO much of a fan of her voice in big quantities. That's why I thought she fit LM perfectly. But we'll see and I'm sure that out of all the girls, she's likely to have the biggest solo career. People seem to LOVE (not just "like") her voice.

I don’t think any of the girls are destined to have big solo music careers at this point. Maybe if they’d broken up 5 years in, one of them could’ve pushed through. I think Perrie has the most fans, so I think she’ll do the best if she bothers but they’ll all eventually settle into TV or radio personality gigs.

It's also important to note a few things;
1) We have no idea what this is for (inb4 she rejoins Little Mix) it could be just her doing some writing, some demos etc- 2) her issue was being compared to the girls constantly, granted it's a quick 3 month turnover but come on.. mental health doesn't have a timer, we should be pleased she's out and about and working again
I mean, she'll still be under a contract I imagine if she did indeed get a solo deal, do you guys really expect her to sit around?

i think it's easy to assume that though because that's the message we got when she did her documentary. of course, she's allowed to find a different perspective but she didn't say she didn't like the pressures of being in a band at that time - it was all about being trolled + that's slightly confusing.

I get she is probably at a better place mentally, but the fact that she wanted out of the spotlight is what is really making me question the reason she left now. Yeah I agree, it doesn’t look good. Her message about leaving sounded like she wanted away from public life and the spotlight - starting a solo career when you are the sole focus isn’t doing that.

I have mixed feelings about this too.
I get her mental health surrounded her being in a band but I am worried that her going solo will actually be even more pressure.
Whenever she had any issues on stage the girls rush to her immediately to support and hug her etc...
On her own?! She won’t have any of that and all eyes are on her.
I’m excited to hear solo music but I just hope she is actually ready.

oh we all saw this coming... since the documentary she was centered more in the group as a 'lead'... i remember when i saw them at The O2 in 2019, everyone was making such a big effort on Jesy so i'm not surprised about this.
music wise I imagine her going down the r&b route or maybe dance... it's not secret that she doesn't like the poppier tracks.

I don't think there's anything wrong with her being in the studio? If anything making music can be great for someone's mental health. There's no date either, so she could be in the studio for most of this year before releasing anything?

I sometimes really don't like Jesy's vibrato (on Black Magic and Touch, ugh) but she sounds divine on Sweet Melody. She has a real icy, sexy tone that just goes so well with dark electro beats.
I know she'll probably go down the urban route but she would SLAY something like Sweet Melody.

you’re right, Ariana didn’t acknowledge either, she sorta slowly tapered off. But she never actively engaged with it either, unlike Jesy who is saying it’s her “natural tan”, I love her and stan her but it’s so insensitive of her to just not... act on this?

I probably shouldn't have commented on the blackfishing thing tbf because out of all the stuff in this thread that is admittedly the most legitimate thing to 'call her out' on (I still think it's pretty overblown, but sure, if there are wider negative implications on the black community from this then she probably at the very least shouldn't be so flippantly dishonest about it). I've just reached a tipping point from occasionally popping into this thread / some other threads in this forum and it seeming to just be constantly toxic towards her for every little tiny thing that people sometimes have to have far too much time on their hands to even notice (bullshit like calling her out for unfollowing people on social media or not acknowledging chart campaigns that she did not even ask for or whatever). And I don't see in what universe it's an acceptable thing to basically say 'if she really has body issues then why does she post so many selfies??' - can we just let her do what she wants to do lol ~ (basically just seconding Slayer's post from earlier).

I don’t think it’s not okay for you to have an opinion and I’ve not nor would I say it isn’t valid. I hope shes OK though, the live performance was very good and she seems to excel at energetic performances like that. Which is why I don't think she should necessarily choose a ballad for her second single.

While moving into a business that's basically built on your likeability in the media seems like a disaster waiting to happen for her (and a cosmetics campaign for her would be a mess, to put it mildly), at least this might be a sign that there's some realism involved with releasing this album - ie, they'll know it won't perform well but will put it out on the market. Again, her best shot is just to release another single and put the album out. If she tries to do a multiple singles thing I doubt the album will come out.

I just came to say pretty much the same thing - I think to get her back into the good of the public eye, at least somewhat, she needs to do a tell all interview and acknowledge what she did was wrong. She mentioned to the fan below today that she won’t be having her hair in tight curls or anything like that anymore like she had in the BOYZ music video and that she doesn’t want anymore drama. She said to him she was in a bad place around the release and the amount of hate comments she was receiving. I agree with all of this, hopefully she continues to try and tone things down. I think she’s definitely still going to be going down the R&B and hip hop route but hopefully after all of this she’ll be a lot more mindful and wary of what she posts/puts out there.
She’s definitely going to have a massive uphill battle after everything and the fact she is independent. But like what was said, the public does look a redemption arc. I think it’ll be extremely hard though and I don’t see it just yet.
I just want her to continue to tone things down, acknowledge what was wrong and hopefully build some bridges.
I think she is a good person but things severely f***ed up and I think she knows that now.

Well, hopefully this is an early sign that she's slowly changing. Even though it doesn't seem like an apology for previous behaviour is forthcoming. She's seemingly still putting the onus on other people for what she interprets as being hate, rather than seeing that they may have a point (when it comes to blackfishing). Like "I won't have my hair in tight curls because I don't want drama" shows that this decision appears to have been made just for an easier life, rather than properly understanding why said hairstyle is seen as inappropriate. Anyway, I'd say it's never too late to make better decisions, however they arise.
Obviously we've said this time and time again but I know Jesy has had an extremely rough time over years when it comes to her appearance and that it had a profoundly bad effect on her mental health. I'm sure many of us fully realise that her appearance modifications (big lips, big hair, tan) is a kind of armour for her, which she possibly believed is what was wanted and expected from her, and what she feels makes her feel and appear beautiful. Unfortunately when she achieved this standard of beauty she was striving for, she could only interpret further criticism about it as being the same kind of hate - and I do understand that kneejerk reaction from her, after what she's been through but that doesn't excuse her from accountability. It was a completely unfortunate situation that her reaction was to double down on it, with a darker tan, increasingly "black culture" appropriative stylings.
The "funny" thing is that from her Halloween post is that she's noticably whiter in facial appearance, and I truly hope that wasn't just for the costume. It would be kind of absurd if a white woman only decides to use her own skin tone for a costume, without realising that her exaggeratedly darker tan she usually wears is in fact more of a costume, an offensive costume.
I don't think there's a problem with her making R&B music but it needs to come from a more genuine place. Boyz was her trying to be something she really isn't.

I probably wasn’t clear, she said she won’t be doing tight curls anymore as she didn’t realise how it came across. The part about drama was just in general that she didn’t want any drama/issues with anyone, sorry if I didn’t make it clear in my original post!
Her hairstylist, Chris also said a few months ago that Jesy won’t be having those right curls anymore as she is more conscious of why people may not be happy with it.
She seems to be rocking her natural loose curls on her stories lately.

Nice too see her embrace her natural curls lately, I remember on Odd One Out how Chris said she used to hide it as she was insecure about it. She’s also been posting a lot more on her stories with no make-up (not saying this story) another insecurity, we love baby steps.

Jesy posted a video of her home recording studio, it makes me happy/sad (in a bittersweet way) to see her and the other girls plastered all over the walls.
I wasn't sure if she'd put LM stuff up in there so it is nice to see she's embracing it. It must be weird seeing their faces everyday in her studio and them not talking, hopefully it'll push her to make amends one day.
Nearly 5 months since ‘Bad Thing’ and it’s been 2 and a half months since she’s been on social media.
I feel like something must be up with her mental health wise, I wouldn’t be shocked to see her post she’s leaving the industry or something. She’s clearly got some severe issues to be taking these breaks quite often, she’s done this a lot but never this long.
She was away for slightly over 2 months and got back about a week ago.

I think this was the expectation of most people when she left the band in 2020, especially in the context of her documentary. Being in the public eye/celebrity/music star comes with constant press intrusion and people having an opinion on everything about you. If you haven't got that thick skin, probably best to find an alternative career. Social media doesn't help either especially with Mental health struggles - which is why it's often best to come off completely or lay low with minimal activity.

Little Mix star Jesy Nelson is said to have pulled out of Netflix's new survival show despite wanting to make a TV comeback.
The singer, 32, was rumoured to be taking part in the brand new series on the streaming platform hosted by Holly Willoughby and Bear Grylls. She had took a break from stardom following her departure from the pop group and the launch of her solo career. Jesy was tipped to join Bear Hunt, which starts filming in Costa Rica next month.
Jesy was said to have been approach by casting agents from the show and despite having "deep pockets", they have not been able to strike up a deal.
An insider told The Sun: "Jesy had meetings with producers who were casting for the show, but in the end they couldn’t come to a deal so Jesy won’t be in the final line-up. It will be a real blow to Little Mix fans who were excited to see her back in the public eye, and it would have been a huge global gig for Jesy, but bosses met with loads of big celeb names and not everyone ends up in the confirmed mix.
"The show is set to be a huge hit though and Netflix are ploughing loads of money into it so it’s sure to get another series - don’t be surprised if Jesy ends up in the line-up for the second season."
