BuzzJack Music Forum _ Little Mix _ Leigh-Anne ft Ayra Starr - My Love • 2nd Single

Posted by: caseclosed 11th August 2023, 11:58 AM

She’s teasing the second single on Instagram already, so the 25th seems likely.

Posted by: caseclosed 18th August 2023, 03:47 AM

You can see Leigh and Ayra recording the video for the second single here:

Posted by: Slayer 18th August 2023, 12:20 PM

The second single appears to be on the way soon.

Posted by: Tafty³³³ 19th August 2023, 01:39 PM

My introduction to Ayra is incredibly recently. It's a name I've seen floating around here and there but never really heard anything until I heard her on 'Unbelievable' by Tori Kelly on Tori's most recent EP! It's actually the one track on the EP that I would LOVE to hear Leigh on! So I hope it's in the same kind of vein! (Although Leigh would SLAY an EP like 'tori'!

They both look TF good in that video though!

Posted by: Slayer 20th August 2023, 06:42 PM

Teasing the new single, 'My Love'.

Posted by: JackTheeStallion 20th August 2023, 07:03 PM

Omg I looooooove Ayra Starr!! Cannot wait for this wub.gif

Posted by: Slayer 21st August 2023, 04:37 PM

Now THIS sounds good and choreo!!

Posted by: JackTheeStallion 21st August 2023, 04:38 PM

I think it sounds a lot better than Don't Say Love, which whilst I liked, got old quick

Posted by: Slayer 21st August 2023, 05:05 PM

This is giving me more of an artist and an actual sense of where Leigh-Anne wants to go. DSL was more safe, despite being a massive bop.

Choreo is looking a lot better than DSL too, im hoping they capture a lot of it in the final video!

Posted by: Yousee 21st August 2023, 07:15 PM

It has to be coming out this week then? I mean, there's a full clip already.
I'll hold in my excitement for now, until I hear/see the full song. But it does seem promising!

Posted by: TheSnake 21st August 2023, 07:21 PM

'Rush' by Ayra Starr was very good and 'Don't Say Love' by Leigh-Anne was good too so it bodes well for this single.

Posted by: caseclosed 21st August 2023, 08:03 PM

She mentioned it comes before the end of August so I guess this Friday?

Posted by: Slayer 21st August 2023, 08:11 PM

Posted by: Jessie Where 21st August 2023, 08:57 PM

I suppose it's good that she's not waiting around!

I actually liked DSL a lot so hope she can bring it again.

Posted by: Slayer 21st August 2023, 10:41 PM

According to discord no proper performances until October.

The acoustic ones are this week.

Posted by: tommie 22nd August 2023, 06:29 AM

Funnily enough I actually was at a Ayra Starr set the other week. She's cute, but used a lot of padding so she's obviously very green. Interesting to see how this does for them both.

Posted by: Slayer 22nd August 2023, 08:37 AM

Hopefully it is better than the DSL one she hyped so much.

Posted by: Lukuzz 22nd August 2023, 09:25 AM

Sounding really good from the snippets

Posted by: Tafty³³³ 22nd August 2023, 12:42 PM

This sounds excellent! I'm not sure it sounds like a typical UK hit, but I love the sound and vibe for her! Hopefully it'll surprise though. But I am really enjoying the sound of that clip!

Ooh I’m liking what I am hearing from the snippet of the track and I love Ayra too. Can’t wait for this to be released.

Posted by: Lunar 22nd August 2023, 09:48 PM

Release date is 8th September!

Posted by: Yousee 23rd August 2023, 05:00 AM

Still over 2 weeks and we've got teasers this detailed already? Not sure if that's a plus or a minus.

In this day and age, a good thing tbh. The amount of songs that go viral on lengthier snippets before their release due to Tik Tok, is becoming more of a thing.

(P.s. I’m not saying it’ll be a hit or anything due to that, just that it’s not going to harm her chances any more or less due to snippets - also remember that Heartbreak Anthem fully leaked like 2-3 months in advance of it being released)

Posted by: Lunar 23rd August 2023, 04:50 PM

There are 3 CD single variants now available to pre-order! Unsigned this time thanks to the OCC rule change, but free shipping cheer.gif

https://shop.leigh-anneofficial.com/gb/

Edit: Looks like one of them also includes a bonus track!

Posted by: caseclosed 23rd August 2023, 04:56 PM

I feel like DSL being garage etc felt like an obvious hit and I might be wrong here but this feels like it stands out way more ion a playlist or on radio. We shall see… The hook sounds more instant.

Posted by: Slayer 23rd August 2023, 04:58 PM

What was the rule change?

Ordered, wish they were signed though!

Hopefully it’ll have better playlisting than DSL.

New Spotify banner, I'm not keen on the photo.

I’d usually only buy a cd single if it is signed or if it is an artist I really like.

Posted by: caseclosed 23rd August 2023, 05:29 PM

Yep. Obviously a thought out decision, curious to see how it plays out. Will the signed bundles not be counted towards the week starting on Friday?

Posted by: Jord 23rd August 2023, 05:32 PM

Thursday releases irk me so much! For artists like Leigh a Thursday release could honestly make all the difference of where the track peaks etc but we shall see, I may be speaking too soon but it feels so counterproductive to choose to release right at the end of the week.

The CD's are released 8th, so I believe they'll count towards the following weeks chart!

Maybe she did it so it could be playlisted on Friday on Spotify? I’m just unsure about whether the physical sales will or won’t count for the debut week.

Posted by: Slayer 23rd August 2023, 06:42 PM

Ooh loving this look too!!

Please don't make the video just close ups and beauty shots like DSL.

I'm very excited, I love the single cover!

Posted by: Slayer 23rd August 2023, 06:43 PM

How we all doing? I'm SO excited to finally confirm my brand new single! It's called 'MY LOVE', it features the brilliant Ayra Starr and it's out on SEPTEMBER 7.

This is a song I've been incredibly excited to share with you for so long. I wanted to wait and come with 'Don't Say Love' first because I knew there was a story that I needed to finish.

I wanted to start fresh with 'My Love' and come with a new lease of life, almost like a rebirth, which continues through the incredible video we shot (more on that VERY soon). With the sound & energy of this song, I knew I needed an equally powerful woman to join me on this song and I've been obsessed with Ayra Starr for so long.

I reached out to her to see if she'd be interested and I'm so happy that she said yes! I can't wait for you to see this video and I can't wait for you to hear this record. Let's f****** GOOOOOOO

I know you guys loved the CD singles for 'Don't Say Love' and I'm super happy to announce that we have CD's available for 'My Love' too.

There are two exclusive messages from me this time and one CD also includes the acoustic version of 'My Love' which I performed for the first time at my Capital Up Close show. If you were there, you're going to want that one!

You can pre-order all versions (including an extra special bundle with all three) now on my store via the link below.

This is just the beginning. We have so much more to come and I can't wait to share it with you. Let's do it, Legion!!!!

Love,

Leigh-Anne

xoxo

Loving the verse and sound of this, this is definitely more in the vein I thought Leigh would be going, although I still did love Don’t Say Love

Leigh-Anne’s ‘hopes’ the album will come next year, she said she’s not rushing it. She wants to show a lot of sides to her before putting out the album.

Posted by: tommie 7th September 2023, 04:47 PM

While I never expected the album to come in the fourth quarter (even if it's not as busy as it used to be), it's not a good sign that they haven't decided a firm release date yet. There's a risk they'll end up chasing that big hit that might never happen.

OUT NOW!

Posted by: Slayer 7th September 2023, 05:08 PM

I'm really enjoying it a lot!

We were spoiled with hearing a lot of it before hand though. Hoping the video will elevate the song even more!

2/2 for me!

I'm more interested in the video - when is it out? Midnight or later tomorrow?

Posted by: troylovesmusic 7th September 2023, 05:16 PM

This is a SMASH wow , I hope it becomes the hit it deserves to be !!

Posted by: Klaus 7th September 2023, 05:17 PM

This is much better than Don’t Say Love, it has much more personality and is more of a statement as to who she may be as an artist.

If there’s no active plans for any album, I’ll place my bets now that Don’t Say Love won’t be on it if/when it eventually comes.

Posted by: Gerald 7th September 2023, 05:20 PM

This song is absolutely incredible!!! Leigh did what she needed to do. The production on this track is the highlight here for me, it’s so fresh and full of energy. I have a feeling that the video is going to elevate the song even more.

Posted by: JackTheeStallion 7th September 2023, 05:24 PM

This is SO much better than Don't Say Love omg, what a bop! I'm still dubious about its overall success but I hope it can be a bit for her! Ayra sounds amazing on it as well.

2/2 for me! Fabulous second single.

Posted by: Davidson 7th September 2023, 10:01 PM

I definitely think this is stronger than ‘Don’t Say Love’ but I am not sure it’s the smash people are claiming.

I think the afrobeats vibe and Ayra Starr absolutely make this song. Ayra’s verse is so dynamic and full of hidden melodies that really elevate the second part of this song. I think it suffers from not having enough of these same dynamic melodies included elsewhere in the song.

I had the same problem with ‘Don’t Say Love’. The garage vibe and the instrumental were fantastic but it wasn’t a massive earworm… the chorus seemed underwritten to me. I sadly think the chorus of this has the same problem - sure repeating ‘My Love’ is catchy, but are there any more melodies and hidden hooks to reveal themselves on further listens? The chorus melody just seems too one dimensional sadly. Again, a lot of potential but underwritten.

Posted by: Slayer 7th September 2023, 11:53 PM

Waaay better placement on NMF!! #2 which is great!

It’ll probably drop slightly when the Cardi song comes out.

Posted by: Slayer 8th September 2023, 08:26 AM

#3 on NMF UK which is good!

Posted by: Jessie Where 8th September 2023, 09:02 AM

This is great! Perfect vibe for late summer.

She's putting out really good stuff, regardless of whether it works out for her or not (which I hope it does!)

Posted by: Perriechu 8th September 2023, 09:39 AM

annoyingly, this song is way better than DSL but I don't think it's the vibe that the UK particularly like or would uphold whereas DSL was pure British radio through and through, so I can't say where I think it'll land.

I do hope it semi-smashes though, the vibes, the vocals, the feature - all of it just works so well (But I do agree that Leigh's verses fall a little flat but that chorus is a complete earworm)

Posted by: Slayer 8th September 2023, 10:01 AM

Teaser looks great!

Not on Radio 1's playlist but is "Tune of The Weekend" (which is usually a good sign they will support in the coming weeks iirc?)

This has been on repeat since yesterday - sounds so good in the car!

So excited for her - she'll defo pull in a new audience with this track. Afrobeats is huge and smart move to position herself in that genre.

Also, that music video snippet is already more replayable than the entire DSL video for me!

WOAAHHH.

This video is incredible?!

Literally better than every single Little Mix video.

I feel like i'm really seeing Leigh-Anne as a solo star from this video, she really brought it.

The looks, the choreo, the locations, everything was just great! The video really elevated the song even more, a perfect video.

Just wow!

Posted by: Davidson 8th September 2023, 04:50 PM

Okay, the video is brilliant. It’s so expensive looking and the choreo is everything!

They have really dropped the ball with not making this the lead. If that video package had to come to launch her, I think there would have been much more initial hype.

Posted by: JackTheeStallion 8th September 2023, 04:52 PM

She truly ATE with that video omg, I don't understand why they went with DSL as the lead - this shows a much clearer direction, personality and the song itself is stronger with a decent hook to it. I hope it can still be a rightful big hit for her!

Posted by: conorw 8th September 2023, 04:54 PM

HELLO MY LEGION!

Well, it's finally here! My Love is finally YOURS! I've waited an incredibly long time to give you this record and I'm full of emotions. It's been a real journey.

This song began life in one of my early writing sessions and from the first day, I knew it would transform into something magical. I really love Afrobeat music and knew that I needed to have someone who specialises in the genre help perfect this song so to have Magicsticks play a part in this made it all the more special.

Then to have the incredible Ayra Starr too was truly the icing on the cake. The verse she delivered is nothing short of perfection. I'm so proud of this song and I really hope you guys love it as much as I do.

Staying true to the origins of Afrobeats, I knew I wanted to shoot this video in Lagos and I'm so grateful to my team for making it happen.

This is without a doubt the proudest moment on this solo journey so far and I'm obsessed with the final product. Don't walk, run over to my YouTube channel now to watch the full video.

Thank you all so much for sticking by me, I truly love you all from the bottom of my heart. LET'S GO!

Leigh-Anne

xoxo

We talk about 12 songs from Olivia Rodrigo, not 150 songs.

It's a bad start for Leigh-Anne, that's a fact.

Posted by: Slayer 9th September 2023, 12:31 PM

Oh wow 70,135, that is like 28k less than what Jesy had for 'Bad Thing' on its first day and that ended up not charting.

I'm in shock because it has had great HHUK and NMF placements?!

I hope the streams increase over the week because of the spotify placements.

Edit: oop misread this as WW figures.

The song is nowhere near as good as DSL and she has used up all thise curiosity plays on DSL.

The song is nowhere near as good as DSL and she has used up all thise curiosity plays on DSL.

I'm not sure why so many think this is better than DSL, feels more people really wanting it to be and do better which I get.

Because music is subjective lmao, what one person might not like the other might love. Stop putting words in people's mouths.

I'm personally not a Stan to delude myself to like something when it's rubbish, I can admit DSL was okay but ultimately fairly boring with little replay value. This has more personality, a proper book and better production value and showcases her as a star - a shame it doesn't look like this will be a hit for the time being though but then you look at generic stuff like Prada and faceless dance songs that the public eat up at every opportunity so idk.

Posted by: Slayer 9th September 2023, 01:24 PM

Agreed this shows us more of Leigh-Anne as an artist and an idea of the direction she wants to go in!

Charts don't change my enjoyment of a song, it will remain a bop even if it doesn't do well.

It's a bad start for Leigh-Anne, that's a fact.

Eeeeesh chill. I’m not disputing it’s a bad start, I’m just trying to soften the blow.

Posted by: tommie 9th September 2023, 01:34 PM

I personally prefer Don't Say Love, but I think My Love is perfectly serviceable too. I tend to agree that the verses fall a bit flat for me.

Posted by: Yousee 9th September 2023, 02:01 PM

All subjective - whether we say it's good or bad or flat, etc.
What's clear though is that she has put in a lot of hardwork into this project (and DSL for that matter). So if it ends up flopping, she can rest assured she has tried hard!

Once it underperforms everyone will be saying it wasn't so good and DSL was better, especially if it say goes 23-68-out.

Not at all, most of my favourite songs of the year aren't chart smashes. It doesn't dictate how much I like a song or not at all.

I will stand by it's a better song/video than DSL no matter how well it does or doesn't do.

Posted by: Tafty³³³ 9th September 2023, 03:54 PM

How soon is "sooner"? Another year? 2? 5? or when they reunite for an anniversary so you can say "see, I told you!".

Just let them breathe as solo artists for a bit, jeez laugh.gif It's tiring seeing this kind of comment the minute a song doesn't do the numbers you expected... It's a completely different era now. It ain't as simple as reuniting in a couple of years...

---

Whether this is a hit or not (I hope it's one of those that manages to grow through the coming weeks) I love that she's getting to do what she loves and has wanted to do since she became a star. This could easily just be another Normani situation (a lot of songs/collabs but no album kinda thing) although I DO think (as much as people probably won't agree tearsmile.gif) we'll get the album at some point.

I would like this to be a hit for her because the song is a banger and she absolutely deserves it as you can tell she worked so hard on it. But as a personal choice, I also don't care if it is one or not coz selfishly, the song is out there now and I can listen to it as little or as much as I desire to. If nobody else gets on board, that's cool.

As for my opinion on the song, I absolutely LOVE it and I cannot get enough of it right now. 'Don't Say Love' served as a nice introduction (which I still love btw x), but I really think this song solidified her as a popstar in her own right. It's so catchy and I see people saying the verses aren't doing it for them which does sadden me a little tbh, coz I think the verses are perfectly suited to the song and really help elevate the chorus more.

The video is just SO GOOD! It delivered exactly what it needed to and that was primarily to showcase her as a solo star! The bits in the woods are my favourite parts wub.gif But all of it is... *chef's kiss* Ayra Starr is INSANELY stunning and beautiful too! I didn't know what she looked like before this as I don't think I've seen her before. She also excelled in her parts too. SO PROUD OF LEIGH <3

Chill.

They’d make more money from Little Mix than they would with solo careers that have singles lucky to spend a week in the top 40. Jesy has learned this and now Leigh will be learning it too.

Posted by: Yousee 9th September 2023, 04:04 PM

My best part of the video is where she literally vibrates to the vibrate lyric. Love it!

Posted by: Slayer 9th September 2023, 04:34 PM

I’m not in a rush for a reunion, I’m excited to see what all the girls do individually. We’re going to keep getting fed by them and it’s so exciting to see what they’ll put out individually.

Also I just wanted to say I still really like DSL, the video was just awful!

Ahh I can’t pick my favourite part of this video, there are so many! I love her in that silver outfit near the end’

Posted by: ___∆___ 9th September 2023, 04:49 PM

It feels like the GP are not here for solo Leigh-Anne, I’m not sure if it’s because all of the girls never really established themselves outside of the group prior to the break?

Again as with single 1 there appears to be very little hype for this? If it wasn’t for here I think it’s release would have passed me by. I thought the LM fanbase would be all over the girls solo projects and getting them to #1 on iTunes etc., to get thing started.

At this stage I can’t see it doing anything more than DSL unless it really picks up on streaming and radio, with everything in week 1 (3 x physicals, 59p download) streaming needs to be mega for it to hold up in week 2.

Posted by: Slayer 9th September 2023, 05:04 PM

It’s not like they’re in desperate need for money… I think some of you need to remember sometimes that whatever you expect or want for them is not necessarily what they want or even worry about. Obviously there’ll be disappointment because of an underperformance but that doesn’t mean they’ll just think “oh Little Mix was more profitable let’s reunite”.

Posted by: Yousee 9th September 2023, 05:23 PM

And whatever they earned as Little Mix was divided by three anyway...

If you're following her on social media, you'll likely be aware of the release as she's been posting it. Otherwise, I'm not sure what other hype there should be. Capital and BBC R1 have both either granted interviews or posted/talked about the release. I'm sure there must be other radio stations as well - though I'm not big on radio.
I also didn't feel any different hype about other releases in the past few months that have done well on the charts.
I do however agree to a degree that solo Leigh-Anne isn't exactly equal to Little Mix. Fans of groups have favourites and so won't support each member equally. We know Leigh-Anne wasn't the most favoured anyway, so the odds are even more stacked against her.
I think she should be viewed as a new artist, and it seems she's reinventing herself as one.
The playlisting so far seems decent. So if the GP warms up to the track, it could smash. But she/we will need to manage her/our expectations.

Posted by: sammy01 9th September 2023, 06:06 PM

A reunion will always be there as an option so I doubt they will be in a rush to reunite.

Leigh Anne's big problem is she just seems to be lacking something as a solo artist. The songs are just missing something extra to take them to another level so far.

She feels very Mel B or Victoria in she adds nicely to a group and having smaller moments makes her shine more. A whole song just has moments it feels flat, like you want something more or different.

DSL could really have done with a Mysteeq style rap that Alesha added to them. My love tries to do that with the feature but actually it kind of highlights Leigh-Anne's short comings as the feature is the best part.

I meant in as far as I’m not seeing people talk about it on socials or be excited for its release or sharing the video etc., (and I follow some LM fans).

I know there is not a ton of shows out there but I think she needs some solo performances (The One Show etc.,) so people can see her as a solo artist - a Capital Radio interview is not going to cut it.

Nice showing. Just hope it can stay top 40 at this point.

Deserves to be big!

Edit: it really sucks that the OCC have changed their rule on allowing signed singles in the charts… that was probably the biggest incentive for impulse buyers. Like, outside of STANS no one is gonna bother with CD singles unless there’s a big chart battle or something. Ugh.

Posted by: ___∆___ 10th September 2023, 05:36 PM

^^ Of all the rules the OCC have come up with that has to be the worst, they’ve killed off an exciting element and a way for fans to get something signed for a few £.

And you are right, I bought the signed versions last time but haven’t bothered this time.

I’m sure it will remain Top 40, DSL started off at #4 (I think) and dropped to #11, so I’m manifesting a Top 30 for this - which isn’t the best but certainly not a disaster if they can somehow grow streaming.

Posted by: Slayer 10th September 2023, 05:57 PM

I actually don’t follow a lot of “stan” accounts (none actually outside of gays who happen to stan)

But there’s a lot of larger accounts such as the “songs who changed history” account, the various music update accounts etc. Actually saying out loud who is tweeting about it is hard actually lol but I’ve seen a lot of buzz about it.

Padam is completely different as people weren’t captivated by the song or video itself, more so the meme/viral aspect of it (that’s not saying the song wasnt paid attention to, cause it obvi was, but I mean when I saw Padam content it was related to memes and such, whereas what I’ve seen of My Love is people praising the aesthetic, the sound, choreo etc. but then again comparing them is silly because there’s nothing to compare)

I expected this tbh. Sunday's "First Look" doesn't have streaming does it? (icr) So it's always heavily geared towards new releases and physicals etc.. Where are they now?

Obviously not put off by Jesy’s disastrous solo launch, Leigh-Anne is the next Little Mix out of the traps. Tomorrow’s garage-tinged debut single promises good things for the forthcoming album, so that just leaves Jade and Perrie – which is surprising as we’ve been hearing about both their projects for a while now.

The stuff Jade’s put down on tape is, by all accounts, genuinely great – including collaborations with the white-hot team behind the Sam Smith/Kim Petras smash Unholy; while Perrie has been experimenting with industry favourite, Fred Again.

So what’s the hold up in getting these singles out? Word in the industry is that petty internal label politics are to blame. Changes at the top of the two labels that signed both Jade and Perrie mean that the new suits running things now would prefer to keep both singers’ debuts gathering dust in a vault rather than watch their predecessors get even a crumb of credit.

You would have thought her debut single would have had that treatment, instead radio interviews and dipping.

Honestly this, I feel people need to see her perform as a solo artist rather than a few radio interviews.

And whilst a 2nd Top 30 single is great surely the record label are going to be scratching their heads with what to do next, they are not going to keep pumping out loss making CDs and big budget videos for that kind of return.

I'm sure she's saving these promo slots for the book promotion. At the end of the day, they are not gonna have her twice on the same show.

Posted by: Joshnat192 19th September 2023, 07:09 PM

Sadly, I highly doubt she will release more music…

I don’t get at all the record companies nowadays. I mean, all the girls had been recording solo music for so long, so the record is paying the sessions, producers, etc. but if they don’t get good results immediately the game is over (Normani). Aren’t the record companies losing more money acting like this? At least release the album in some formats so the artist can do a mini tour and they can have some money back of albums, merchandising etc. From a record company point of view makes more sense to me make the girls release solo music earlier and in case that they underperform, stop of losing money with the record sessions, travels, etc. Guess is really hard or sad for the girls to had been working in their projects for so long and maybe they won’t be able to release it.

Posted by: Tafty³³³ 20th September 2023, 12:33 AM

Where is the damn promo??? Her team/label absolutely suck f***ing balls. Where are the primetime TV performances? Where are the chat show interviews? Why is it just radio interviews in a day and age where no one gives a crap about radio?

Ridiculous tbh.

She’s an absolute star! She deserves longevity rather than flash in the pan hits.

Why do they keep dropping 30 seconds of behind the scenes at a time, so pointless... just drop the full thing.

Sadly I also think this is just a reflection of the music industry nowadays in the streaming era.

Gone are the days when a CD single or an iTunes download would be available on a Sunday morning and the artist would be doing TV every day, signings, interviews and begging fans to buy it.

Nowadays it’s just dropping a single on Spotify, popping in to Capital FM for 10 minutes and that’s it.

The reason the main promo is radio is to influence radio to play it, that would be the best chance of it becoming a hit (if it was a better song too).

What a ridiculous post? How have you been following the careers of popstars and think they have any control over their schedule?

I think it's evident that Leigh's team aren't chasing a hit, for whatever reason they just aren't - Leigh has said herself they aren't chasing chart numbers specifically and she's just enjoying music. Why is everyone so mad? I get that it's a great song and it's not getting the exposure it deserves, but how is this Leigh's fault? Do you think Leigh herself sets up meetings with streaming/radio support people? Do you think she herself sends it to radio? Why are you blaming Leigh, and even saying she has a lack of want for her career? It's very obvious that Leigh has a hunger to succeed, but chart success is not the only way go about it, and in all honesty, she would be better off building her brand first, building a fanbase, releasing music quickly - all of which she has been doing.

I just think it's ridiculous to sit and blame Leigh when she can't really do anything, there probably are things in the pipeline but not everything has to be so transparent, we've seen over the last few years that songs randomly blow-up and take off once the timing is right.

What exactly do you want her to do? She's posting on socials, building her brand, being engaging with fans - what left is there to do in her power?

Also, the conversation re: "Warner investing in another single" etc - you are all applying "new artist, no experience" criteria to Leigh. I can guarantee her contract with Warner included a full campaign for an album, she was a part of the biggest girl group in the world and has a decent bit of power behind her name, I don't think Leigh is going to be an artist who is strung along and eventually dropped. She has already stated there is an album, more than likely with another single (I believe she said there are 3 singles?) and on her Apple Music interview with MNEK, she said she has full creative control over her music - an artist who is going to be strung along and not supported would not get full control. Let's be real. Leigh may not be a huge huge name, but she was definitely able to iron out a solid contract for herself. The main event hasn't even happened yet.

So much of the talk in these threads is basically applying things that would happen in 2015 to something that really isn't happening anymore. Artists who get signed pretty much manage to get an album out regardless of success.

This is very rose tinted glasses. Warner are a music label not a charity, budgets will be getting slashed as we speak. Of course they were chasing a hit you don't release 3 cd singles if you are just letting a song do its thing.

There will always be a clause in a contract too that means if the artist is under performing then the label can get out of it and 'drop' them.

Right now I'd say single number 3 will be make or break, one more under performing single and I highly doubt they will invest in the costs of releasing an album. Even Leigh doesn't sound totally confident that an albun will defo be released.

I mean it’s pretty obvious she was expecting to pull numbers and high chart positions, despite people saying she wasn’t about that. I mean who wouldn’t want that?

However, I’m really glad to hear she’s overcoming the reality and that she’s working her way up (although she does have a better platform than other ‘new’ artists’).

Posted by: Yousee 9th October 2023, 05:33 AM

I'm surprised at her surprise. But again, I'm surprised at my surprise of her surprise! She says/writes/shares things sometimes that make me cringe. She was the one who said on IG live that Trash would blow up Tiktok. She also shared a post of someone saying she'll be the Beyonce of the group. There are other examples I can't remember. Some of these thoughts/wishes/expectations for some reason get jinxed once they're put out there, which is why it's often best to keep them to oneself/inner circle.
I didn't like that people were blaming her for the performances of her songs. I think she's put in a lot of hardwork. The expectations are unbelievable as well. Artists from groups do not have their group's level of success; Examples are too numerous to mention. The exceptions are an anomaly, and it's usually one person out of the group
There'll be a bit more happiness in the world if people manage their expectations better.

You are right it just isn't a good song. She doesn't need to manage expectations or pretend she is a new artist (she is getting airplay and playlisting no brand new artist would get) she just needs better songs to take advantage of that airplay/playlisting.

Which is why she is probably back in the studio either using her own money to find better songs or under instruction of the record label to record something better.

Posted by: Slayer 9th October 2023, 07:51 PM

Yeah it is true she is getting much more support than a typical 'new artist' would get as she's not actually new. However, at this point she can't help that.

I do think she needs to chill thinking she'll be the next big thing - not helped by her team hyping up as the second coming of Jesus.

These performances...

Posted by: Yousee 9th November 2023, 12:21 AM

These clips are too short to form an opinion on the performances.
We must remember that these girls' entire experience with live performances was as part of a group. So it will take sometime to get used to performing solo and singing whole songs solo. At least she's actually singing live.

Also just seen the Kiss Haunted House party performances: It's no longer business as usual where they could get away with skipping lines/notes and asking the audience to sing (as they all did in Little Mix); such skips now make the singing so vacant/empty as it's just her and her alone. The performance of My Love was great though - she probably should have mimed all through if she wanted to focus on choreo/performance (like most other artists do - including her ex-bandmate)

Posted by: sammy01 9th November 2023, 08:40 AM

Camila was 19 and delivering amazing Havana performances on national TV after leaving Fifth Harmony. Cheryl was doing Fight For This Love on X-Factor a year as her first performance. Jesy was even delivering full choreography and confidence on Graham Norton and Jingle Bell Ball in the middle of a tanking campaign and public backlash better than these performances.

Plus this is what rehearsals and soundchecks are for. She doesn't get dropped off at the venue and given 10 mins to practise.

Actually, my issue with Leigh-Anne's clips I've seen isn't about the "performance", but about vocal delivery. The dances/gesticulating/movements and everything else that make up a performance seem alright to me.
The examples you gave were for National TV performances, and that's a lot of difference - cameras, audience, staging, backup dancers, etc - all of which make a performance appear bigger/better.
But also, Jesy was always a better performer than Leigh-Anne in Little Mix, so I wouldn't expect things to change overnight in their respective solo careers.

Thats better, but it is mainly because it is a TV editing... She is more confident though, good for her. She needs to work on them vocals, sorry. Her being out of breath most of the time and even not singing a lot of the verses or chorus looks bad.

She really needs to improve. It's a shame cos the song is good!

I agree with all of this.

I’m loving the songs but the performances are just not very good. It really shows how much she needs the group to ‘hold her up’ as they did during their performances. I’m glad she’s doing her thing but maybe this shouldn’t be her main thing.

Posted by: Slayer 19th November 2023, 06:42 PM

The beginning sounded great but that’s because it was mined. I’m just really underwhelmed with all of her live performances sad.gif

Posted by: Yousee 19th November 2023, 10:19 PM

She's probably still lacking in confidence from her experiences in the group as told in her book. If you watch back even her most recent performances in Little Mix and pretend the other girls weren't there, there really isn't much difference with her current performances as a soloist. Still same Leigh-Anne, so not underwhelmed.
Sometimes, some people are better off in a group.
Will she get better? Who knows! Time will tell.
Apart from the usual few we can easily count, I don't know many ex [successful] GG members whose consecutive live solo performances (not music videos with all the padding) are particularly striking.

I definitly agree with this. There's a reason some popstars should just stay in their groups. See: Mel B, Victoria Beckham, Geri, all the Girls Aloud members, all the Sugababes, all of Backstreet Boys, etc. Hell, even Mel C or Emma probably would have never made it as popstars if they didnt come from the Spice Girls in the first place - and they were seen as the talented ones!

Sadly, I think the same applies to the LM girls. They were great in a group, and live they worked well as a group (although the miming on their own tours was always terrible to see, specially 10years into their careers!!...). Personally, I dont particularly see Jade or Perrie doing amazing either, although they *do* have better stage presence than Leigh-Anne ever did.

There's nothing wrong with being in a girlband, I guess that egos do get in the way a lot unfortunately. It is what ultimately broke the Spice Girls too...

She really is so timid for someone with 10 years experience including tours!

I’m sorry but nobody wants this.

Loved this performance! She ate. She’s looking more comfortable and confident with each one. Easily the best one yet.

Agreed, her confidence has gotten a lot better!

Heavy pre-record the first half but better than her recent performances.

Girl is WORKING, not her doing more international promo now than all her time in Little Mix. Fair play to her and her team getting her out there!

Loving the hair and the colour, it suits her.

Her response:

Posted by: sammy01 26th November 2023, 12:28 PM

She really doesn't need to be responding to random people on insta, just makes her look petty.

I think that response comes from being defensive as she knows her solo career isn't going well so far.

Posted by: Jessie Where 26th November 2023, 12:50 PM

I was about to say, I'm not sure I'd call the state of her solo career at present "winning"

Posted by: colinn 26th November 2023, 03:04 PM

Damn, some unnecessary negative comments in here. She's doing fine. She's finding her feet as a solo artist and I'm seeing growth with each performance.

Posted by: shadow2009 27th November 2023, 07:10 PM

That response is so....childish.

Take constructive criticism Leigh.

Posted by: Yousee 27th November 2023, 09:11 PM

That's NOT constructive criticism; that's trolling.
The offending troll isn't the issue now, rather her response is getting the dissection.
Is she winning? Depends on your definition of winning - putting out #1 singles, or personal growth. Only you can define your wins, and not some random person on the Internet.

How is it trolling to point out a pre recorded intro and off key vocals if that’s what they are?

Agreed - however this is 2023 and people are not allowed to
Be told anything other than they’re wonderful unfortunately in case it causes offence 😂😂

"Off key performance" is a negative generalization. "Constructive criticism" does not brand the entire performance off key with that emoji. The tone of that comment reeks of mockery and condescension - like, isn't that obvious?
Such comments are what people write on forums like this and on daily mail. Taking it to the person's page is insolent, and so they can decide to respond however they wish on their page/profile.

I actually enjoyed this performance and the mini dance break, a lot more confidence!

Honestly this! It's only gotten better over time for me.

It sounded more than worthy of being a current big hit. I think unfortunately if it was by somebody else it probably could've been.
