So does anyone have any news on this gem of a popstar? I know she's recorded a new album, but is there any more details? Insider goss?
I did a search online, and I only found an advert she's modeling in.
Her new album 'Trip The Light Fantastic' is due out in January.
The first single to be taken from it is 'Catch You'. I've heard the demo (which is excellent btw), very electro-poppy, I hold out much hope for this album
Catch You is probably out in January.
A demo of Catch You with Cathy Dennis has leaked and a song called Colour Me In. Both are some of the best songs she's ever done...the video of Catch You was directed by Sophie Muller (she's done Gwen, Sugababes etc) as well, so should be really cool.
Come back Sophie.
The 'Catch You' video was filmed in Venice for anybody interested....
Sophie Muller also directed, what will officially become in a few weeks, the biggest song of the decade (Shakira's Hips Don't Lie). So I guess the video will be fantastic.
I'll do a search online for the leaks. Meanwhile I'm posting my favourite SEB songs:
(FLASH MOVIE)
(FLASH MOVIE)
One of my favourite artists, I can't wait for her to come back. It's been way too long without her.
I also heard the 'Catch You' demo and it's really wet my appetite for the comeback, I've waited so long for this and it's nearing.
I've always thought of SEB as the only popstar in the industry who could very easily be just as successful as a supermodel. She has that look about her; she's naturally beautiful.
I loved her last two albums, great singer, will be good to hear new stuff from her.
She is one of the most talented and original figures in the business, I hope she fares well this time around.
I've always liked her actually
http://www.metro.co.uk/fame/interviews/article.html?in_article_id=19682&in_page_id=11
She says she'll have a new record out by the end of the year, so December time maybe? I predict the week before or after Christmas.
EDIT: DOUBLE POST
Shes great she deserves her own forum imo
If she's big and doesn't have another child, she might end up with one, who knows?
What's the obsession with her?
She's pretty c**p methinks.
i find sophie average alot of her singles sounded exactly the same
I find her glamorous, especially when you compare her to tarts like Lily Allen. It's like she's sophisticated yet tongue-in-cheek, and it showed in her classy-yet-cheesy music.
I quite a couple of Sophie songs like Murder on the dancefloor, and get over you but Mixed up world really lets her down...
Her vocals can sometimes grate on me but I own her 2 albums and they are great. And surprisngly, I much pefure her second album! She is something of a "female pet shop boy" I think
finally someone that likes the second album! me too! mixed up world was great! very underrated
I loved both albums, the second was less commercial so I can kinda see why it didn't fare aswell.
My favourite Sophie song is 'Take Me Home', which is probably in my top 5 songs ever.
I love the Bextor. I love the way she is so unique in what she does, she deserves so much more credibility.
*PLUG* She has an exclusive new track on the PopJustice Compilation Album out Monday October 23rd *PLUG*
BUY IT!
Well obviously not, but she's still far from a 'product'.
She was the lead singer of an indie band in the 90's, and she worked damn hard to get her own success after that.
Actually Sophie writes the melodies as well as lyrics for her songs.
And the only songs I'd say are even remotely cheesy are Murder On The Dancefloor and Take Me Home.
Her other material is pop but it's got indie and dance influences in it. Expecially in her 2nd album. Pop music shouldn't be for people who just wanna see silly dances and crappy lyrics, where Sophie comes in & rightly so.
She doesn't market herself as a $l*t & does havea lot of input into who she is including the material she writes.
Murder On The Dance Floor was her best release in my opinion. That video (I think you posted it, I'll watch it at a more reasonable hour as it is nearly quarter past 4 in the morning here in the UK) was so funny.
i havnt heard her albums, as i detest the singles released its hardly likely that ill buy the album!
the only thing with her name on it that was any good was with spiller on 'groovejet (if this aint love)' which was a superb track. but she had sweet fa to do with that really, she was just the singer.
She is great. Can't wait for some new material, I think the name of the new album 'Trip The Lights Fantastic' is worthy of a purchase alone. She's very artistic so I'm excited for her new image and style for the new album. Take Me Home was commercial. Shoot From The Hip was less commerical I just think she released the wrong singles from SFTH. Another Day should have been the comeback.
The promo single of her new song in being released next month, according to Fire FM Bournemouth.
Couldn't find a topic for the album so I hope this is ok, but 'Read My Lips' is getting https://www.plasticpop.co.uk/product/sophie-ellis-bextor-read-my-lips for the first time. Available for pre-order right now.
STOP IT, omg how exciting.
Thanks sooo much for the heads up! Managed to get in there while the discount is still available love this Sophie era.
I see this is only the first record being released from this 'Plastic Pop' project - really excited to see what else they manage to bring out.
Really nice treat for the fans.
I’d have been tempted if I’d have spotted this with the £5 discount but £35 including postage puts me off.
'Shoot From The Hip' green vinyl will be available from Plastic Pop at 12 noon.
UPDATE: Also 'Trip The Light Fantastic' white vinyl is now available, can buy both for £55.
^ You'll be pleased that a white 'Trip The Light Fantastic' vinyl is coming too, just announced *.*
The 'Read My Lips' vinyl is getting some promo from the OCC! https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/the-best-vinyl-albums-reissues-represses-and-limited-editions-to-be-released-in-2021__32462/
I thought the colours made more sense in the first place, having Shoot in green and Trip in white
Not that it matters for me because I'm not ordering these, but I am so pleased that Plastic Pop are successful with these releases I'm really looking forward to the possibility of future titles that are must haves for me!
I really should find a moment to listen to more of Sophie's music though. For some reason I never felt the urge to check out a whole album by her, even though I did enjoy many of the singles from these albums!
The colour of the vinyl for SFTH would be nicer if it was the same as the awful font.
Getting a shout out from Sophie herself now!
Be interesting to see how these sell !!
I wouldn't be surprised to see them sell a couple thousand each tbh.
Sophie did another Kitchen Disco tonight, included on the setlist were deep cuts 'Dear Jimmy' and 'Fuck with You', Pet Shop Boys' 'It's a Sin' and Goldfrapp's 'A&E'!
Edit: Here it is!
Loving the homage to the 'Murder on the Dancefloor' video - Sophie has not aged in 20 years!
You can now get the 'Make A Scene' vinyl on Plastic Pop, gonna wait this one out a while, spent far too much on vinyls just for Sophie lately
Read My Lips pre orders have sold out!!
Make A Scene seems to be missing from iTunes and Apple Music in Australia, it is on Spotify though.
Make a scene is bring reissued on vinyl but sadly no cd. It includes 2 bonus tracks.
https://www.plasticpop.co.uk/product/sophie-ellis-bextor-make-a-scene
I love Dear Jimmy! I bought that CD it was featured on just for it.
I hope this gets a digital release. In fact U hope Sophie puts her back catalogue of music up on digital platforms. So many gems. I think most of it is already there though.
Can these vinyl re-issues chart when they are being done this way?
I got a dispatch email for my Read My Lips vinyl on Wednesday evening. Is there a chance it could make a surprise appearance in today's chart?
Saying that, I know it sold out but I don't know how many were made available.
I’ve al,lst finished listening to the audiobook of her autobiography Spinning Plates, it’s been fantastic so far. Really insightful.
i hope when she goes back to releasing music... she returns to the adult-contemporary sound of 'Young Blood'.
I've had enough of the adult-contemporary stuff now. Give us some icy, electro-disco bangers.
I hope she does a couple of dance collab as well, it's been a while.
Sophie's version of Self Control is new single from Alex Christensen's current album.
When it comes to Self Control, no version can beat the Infernal version but this is good!
Make a Scene is at #158 in the midweeks, is that because the vinyl has just been released? I thought I read somewhere they wouldn’t be chart eligible.
yeah i think nicola sold about 30 copies.
Plastic Pop Records posted yesterday that, I think from this week onwards, they are indeed chart eligible. Which is pretty exciting to see.
Poor Nicola,
but glad they are now chart eligible!
I saw a post on Facebook yesterday reporting that the first four albums are being reissued on CD and cassette by the same company who did the vinyl. No tracklist yet or release date.
Those track lists for the reissued CDs are slightly disappointing. No remixes and mainly just the B sides but better than nothing I guess.
i'm hoping she returns to the 'Young Blood' sound.
As much as I like the "Young Blood" sound, I wish she would dabble in dance/EDM occasionally as well.
We've had two (arguably three) albums now of folky MOR, much as I've enjoyed it it's about time for some electro disco bangers - which makes perfect sense as she's now the kìtchen disco Queen!
Setlist from her opening night is very strong!
Excited now for the palladium!
no young blood is quite the choice
No Trip the light tracks is a choice.
She does seem to be changing it up a bit each show. Isn’t she using a “wheel of fortune” style thing where she picks half a dozen (or so) songs at random. It just so happens most of the good stuff hasn’t come up yet.
Seeing her at the Palladium tomorrow! Very excited, will be a fun way to break up the week.
Same , anyone know what time she comes on stage?
7:30 or 8:30? I though I saw it in an instagram post from her.
If it’s not 9pm start she’s been letting people know on social media.
I went to the Manchester gig on Friday, she’s fab and all. Just came away really underwhelmed by all the covers, I could imagine most of the audience wouldn’t be able to name one of her albums.
Yes she started at 9 on Saturday in Glasgow. Holiday Sidewinder was on from about 8 to 8.30.
She randomly appeared in Neighbours on Monday, playing herself in an episode based in London. For about 30 seconds, with a reference to the 'dancefloor' and mentioned her kids.
What a wonderful response thank you all !
Where can we see that?!
Hoping dor a new disco album tbh. She can promote it via iamspamspamamidiscos again
What did everyone think of the new track Hypnotised?
Wait, there is a new track?
Isn't Hypnotised from an earlier album?
Trip The Light Fantastic maybe?
Nope, I think I'm wrong. I got confused.
Supersonic is from Trip The Light Fantastic and Synchronised is from Make A Scene.
I swear I've heard that song title before though.
I think this new track is a collaboration with an unknown artist for their song, a bit like 'Hummingbird' was.
She described it as "ABBA on crack" () before she performed it and that sounds about right! It's quite high energy, high camp disco with a bombastic chorus. Sounded promising!
Thoroughly enjoyed myself tonight, she is an absolute babe and I will love her forever <3
Oh that description is great! Hopefully it gets a release soon.
There are some good recordings of it on YouTube.
Here for Hypnotised - the kind of music the gays want from Queen Ellis Bextor
This is sounding pretty good. Definitely getting the Abba type vibes.
The chorus also reminds me a bit of 'Because The Night' (in a way)
I lived the concert and the new track!
Crowd was great and the sound and setlist 🔥
Couldn’t think of where else to post this but the Murder On The Dancefloor EP is now on streaming and iTunes. It includes remixes and b-side Never Let Me Down.
I know it’s due to its current resurgence but it’d be so great to get all of Sophie’s singles EP’s available on streaming. She has some great b-sides.
Murder On The Dancefloor re-enters the Australian singles chart at #25 this week.
Murder is back at no2. Who would have thought! Can it go all the way this time? Probably not in my view!
Could somebody stick the hyphen in her surname in the thread title please?
Anyway, really happy for her! It's absolutely astounding that this track is back at its peak after 22 years. Completely unprecedented. She's kept herself ticking over in the limelight one way or another for the last two decades but it's so lovely to see her back high in the chart. This song is such a gem.
Nice to see Never Let Me Down up to stream, I used to love that. Not sure I've ever heard the Extended Album version before now, has that been released physically before?
Number 2 here in Ireland aswell this week up from number 7 last week.
A limited physical cd single is being released so that will help its sales.
I'd love to see it go number 1 but I don't think it will manage it but going number 2 again is more than great for Sophie at this point as its a long time since she was on the singles chart.
'Murder on the Dancefloor' has vaulted up 40 places to #58 on the Billboard Hot 100!
Amazing!!! I was wondering when we'd get the update today!
Top 50 next week please!
Sophie will be on Australian tv show The Project tonight at 6:30pm ADET. So roughly 2 hours time.
Not sure what time exactly she’ll be on though.
Does anyone know if Murder on the Dancefloor is on US radio? Even if it is still far in the future: If Murder were to become a radio hit in the US, Crying At The Discotheque should be her next single there. Crying is Sophie's seventh most successful song in the UK without ever reaching the top 100, so it definitely has potential. Besides, hardly anyone in the USA knows the original Crying anyway and everyone would think it was another catchy song from Sohpie.
Would there be any interest in a Sophie Ellis-Bextor: Singles Rate? Or would anyone be happy to host one?
I can’t remember the last time we had one, plus when you include her collaborations she’s got a pretty good list of songs.
Yes I'd love that. Think there'd be a lot of interest too!
There’d be 30+ songs if we included all her collaborations. Not sure if people would prefer to cut the list back though.
MOTD jumps from #25 to #12 in Australia this week.
Officially back in yeh top in Australia this week at #7!
I forgot how good was this song
Wonderful news, I'm not expecting this to catapult MOTD to #1 but I'm happy she's got this performance none the less.
MOTD up to #51 in America.
Fab. Next step top 50!
she uploaded extended version of it on YouTube
Sped up and slowed down versions are being released at midnight.
Not normally a fan, but anything that’ll help with sales is good I guess.
The new lyric video is absolutely horrible. I'm shocked. WTF is this? I expected a JOYFUL lyric video that's reminiscent of the actual music video. Not this black & red boring affair.
It's so low budget it hurts. When did Universal become so cheap?
Another week at #7 for MOTD in Australia. It’s done quite well.
Wonder if this’ll be enough to stop it declining in sales (streams) next week and succumbing to ACR? I guess probably not
Amazing how much this has sold over the years!
Sophie needs to have a traditional Greatest Hits album available.
The problem is that one big viral hit doesn't guarantee anything further. Kate Bush had MASSIVE success with RUTH but The Whole Story didn't benefit for long (if much at all).
Sophie will be supporting Take That on their tour of Australia and New Zealand this year.
Amazing that Universal has snapped Sophie up again and she's performing at BAFTAs and the BRITs! The promo is so on point! Really hoping MOTD can reach the top 10 in the US eventually. I would love for SEB to have a proper comeback off the back of this.
Could it have already peaked in the US? It's down from #51 to #57. Hopefully there's more life left in it!
Iconic
Also a fan of I Wont Change You!
Im happy that she is signed again and i hope she can build on the current success she is having.
Exciting (if true)
I know it's one song that has got the revival but they must have some sort of plan to do something with her or else they wouldn't be bothering, would they?
I think the resigning to Universal is true which is great news. She also said she’s working on more disco music so definitely will try and capitalise on MOTD’s revival.
I'm happy to hear that, I always thought it was a strange decision to go from the disco influence of 'Hypnotize Ed' to the more alternative sound of the HANA album (although having said that, I did end up quite enjoying HANA, so I'm happy either way really... I'm just glad we're gonna be getting more music from her).
'Hypnotize Ed' was a single she featured on for somebody else's project, and I think the album would have been near enough completed by the time it came about (much as I was really hoping it would serve as a template for the next album)
PNAU remix coming out tomorrow!
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-Yzi3ggXvh8
OMG!
Read My Lips has been on Billboard's Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart for four weeks now, but what does it mean exactly? Is RML only charted there because of the streams for MOTD and do people actually stream/buy the whole album?
I don't understand something about the Hot 100 either: MOTD is no 57 in the Hot 100 this week, but the song is better placed in all genre charts: streaming no 38, digital no 17 and pop airplay no 30. So if MOTD is doing well on streaming and radio, why is it on the Hot 100 just at no 57?
Just listening now and yep that whole second verse is awful - which I could forgive in an iconic Des'Ree kinda way but it's just all kind of naff? The production isn't great and the delivery sounds pretty half arsed too. Definitely her worst single for me.
(although saying that I'm flicking through the album and her second one really was pretty dire, a real come down after her debut)
If Sophie has signed with Universal again hopefully that means all her other singles will get digital EP’s. Still hoping we get all those great b-sides.
Down 1 place to #8 in Australia this week.
New PNAU Remix out today
Track 1 on hot hits Uk now although a bit late.
A shame 'Stick Season' is just too damn big otherwise it could've had some time on top but nonetheless it's done incredibly well.
1 week until the MOTD physicals are released. Why were they waiting that long to release the physicals?
Sophie is doing the Live Lounge on Radio 1 next week 20th!
With a bit of luck (although unlikely) she will avoid ACR for these to have a real benefit.
They should release a few remixes to help it with streaming that might help it avoid ACR for a little bit longer.
Jimmy Fallon performance:
Love how the styling and makeup calls back to the original video!
Good for her, she really deserves it, she has more than paid her dues since her last really successful stint over 20 years ago.
Love the PNAU remix too, great job!
That was a nice performance. Do we know if it’s had any impact in the US? Streaming wise as I doubt iTunes dose much over in the US either.
Great to see the major success SEB is having….she looks incredible too, all the years of her trying new sounds and gigging has paid off.
I'm not sure how you can credit 'trying new sounds' when the song that's blown up is literally just the song that was already her biggest hit
Just realised murder on the dancefloor has now spent more weeks in the top 10 than it did first time around.
Matches 'Moves Like Jagger' for weeks at 2 (with the exception that was consecutive weeks). Hope it sticks around a bit longer even on ACR which should be likely!
Hyped for her live lounge performance *.*
Number 15 on first look this week.
I think Sophie can make a slight recovery by the end of the week.
Here's that BAFTAs performance
Live Lounge from today including a cover of The Last Dinner Party
Honestly? The continuing success that Sophie's experiencing from this? Nothing short of joyful. Loved her Live Lounge set and her performance at the BAFTAs and on Jimmy Kimmel last week.
I'm still pulling for it to become a sleeper hit in the US
She suits Nothing Matters so well!
It feels like something she would have performed with Theaudience!
David Guetta Remix out tonight
Loving this remix !!
Was not what i was expecting!
Sophie needs to release a new single to try on capitalize on the huge exposure she currently has on her side.
Take Me Home EP out now digitally.
Hopefully this is the start of all of her singles getting the digital re-release treatment.
I cant find the remixes vinyl anywhere !!!!
I want her to release new music asap!
Deleted
We got the I Won’t Change You EP last week, which means we now have a studio recording of her cover of Yes Sir, I Can Boogie.
Next week should see the start of the Trip The Light Fantastic era.
Catch You, Me & My Imagination and Today The Suns On Us all now have EP’s on streaming, which means all their b-sides are now available to stream/purchase.
I think that mow just leaves Make A Scene album which isn’t on all digital platforms internationally, plus it’s singles.
I think there’s only one b-side Sophia Loren from the Starlight single.
Finally I’m going we can also get Dear Jimmy on streaming too.
OMG YES
'Down With Love' and 'Move to the Music' now being available - excellent songs!
I feel like it’s for an advert, that’s probably because I don’t want to get my hopes up.
I’d love a new dance-pop single though.
She needs to release SOMETHING. It’s been 7 months since Murder was big again!
Feel like she has missed out on the momentum now for further hits on singles chart sadly. I get it's hard to have something ready to go but really 7months...
Tbf I don’t think all is lost. Murder might have a bit of a resurgence at the end of the year so anytime before then would be sufficient.
To be fair, there was this fairly recently:
Disappointingly there was no single/ep release last week. So Sophia Loren and Dear Jimmy remain unavailable on streaming.
