Another thread which reminds us that 2004 was 20!! Years ago. This thread can be a good idea to throw in some nostalgic moments and or historic events that you remember from that year.
I'll start with the introduction of Facebook on February 4th by Mark Zuckerberg!
Everyone seemed to be desperate in 2004 to have a phone with one of these ringtones by Jamster (who were responsible for the birth of Crazy Frog);
Steve Brookstein wins the first ever series of X Factor
Nadia Almada wins Big Brother 5
Series 3 of I'm a Celeb probably still remains the most iconic and memorable series of all time despite being 20 years ago with the hoy trinity of Peter, Jordan & Kerry
I remember the Record of the Year show on ITV was still massive, this year won by Busted - Thunderbirds Are Go (lol)
Greece won Euro 2004 by beating Portugal 1-0 in the final.
Best Mate won his third Cheltenham Gold Cup in a row becoming the first since Arkle to win three Gold Cups back-to-back.
Kelly Holmes won the 800m and 1500m at the Athens Olympics.
Michael Schumacher won his seventh Formula One world title.
wasn't the Indian Ocean tsunami also 20 years ago? Jesus
in terms of pop culture:
- Mean Girls
- Ashlee Simpson getting caught lip syncing on SNL
Janet Jackson nipple exposure incident at the Super Bowl.
Twenty years of Babycakes!
These films were also released in 2004:
Kung Fu Hustle
New Police Story
Spider-Man 2
Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid
Taxi (a US remake of the original French film. It's a garbage, but I somehow like it lol)
The Incredibles
The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie
Popular anime Bleach also unleashed its first ever episode in 2004.
Music, I was still very young and poor back then to recognize English songs. So, nothing really historical for me.
Shrek 2 also came out in July of 04!
The Athens Olympics
The best series of Australian Big Brother (well in my view).
From a music point of view:
Maroon 5 - This Love
Slinkies Minx - Sumer Rain
Natasha Bedinfield - These Words
Australian Idol had the shock early exit of fan favourite Ricki-Lee. I imagine it was a little like with Maria Lawson was voted off X Factor.
Definitely the tsunami, Janet’s titslip and Facebook being founded, as mentioned above. Also:
Also the first gay marriage being held in Massachusetts.
