#84 for this tune from Mika!
Duffy's 2nd era lead single missed out at 41 too.
Boyzone's follow up to the emotional Stephen Gately 'Gave It All Away' missed out at 44. Thought this was pretty solid as well.
This was a great track from Swedish star Erik Hassle.
I will post more later but this instantly comes to mind.
Ooooh SO many from this year.
I remember this was widely predicted to be a big hit, it even got Radio 1 support which back then was a big deal but it got to #44 and he was never heard of again. I actually really liked it:
I remember loads of people on here were predicting this to be a top 5, but it ended up at #64. I have a distinct feeling the release of it may have been messed up somehow though:
I'd have also posted Boyzone, Erik Hassle and Sky - all so good. I've realised loads I was going to post actually eventually were small hits in 2011, so I'll have to save them for that thread.
Alphabeat ended up being something of a one-album wonder sadly. The debut was definitely better but The Spell and DJ were solid singles, this didn't reach the top 75 at all.
This actually got to No.35, but I foolishly thought it was going to be some sort of major hit for Katie, as it's brilliant and her prior hit had gone to No.1 in late 2007 with Eva Cassidy.
Hurts had four hits in 2010. Wonderful Life was my favourite, but at least made No.21. This one was No.50, quite a big singalong chorus, it felt bigger.
Interest in our Eurovision entry was so low in 2010 that even fan downloads couldn't get it above...No.179! It sounds like a Jason Donovan Pontins tribute act from 1989 and the vocals in the last 10 seconds are so flat that it's astonishing this wasn't a nul pointer.
A song that did better was this interval act at the contest, which reached No.70, although it was significantly bigger around Europe (No.1 in Norway, top five in Germany...)
No.54...wtf. I loved Robyn's three part Body Talk project released in 2010, such high quality.
The first charting single for Avicii got to No.46 at the end of 2010, although of course under the name Tim Berg he'd had a bigger top 15 hit with Seek Bromance.
A No.57 hit for Taylor Swift, and she also fumbled the bag a bit with the original Speak Now era here. Mine (a No.30 hit in 2010) wasn't the strongest song on the album by any means, and Enchanted was probably a missed opportunity looking back.
Thought this would be a fair bit bigger at the time. Excellent song. #64
I'll post a few more later, but first:
The Beatles - Twist And Shout (#48)
The Beatles - Here Comes The Sun (#64; #58 in 2012)
The Beatles - In My Life (#78)
The Beatles - I Saw Her Standing There (#90)
This should have been massive! I think I actually prefer it to her other, bigger ballads. Truly gorgeous but sadly the 2010 dance-craze ate it up.
This probably got cancelled hence its low peak but wtf were her label thinking? Bey and Alicia were both at the top of their game in 2010.
Again, not really released so not really a flop but why was this not released instead of the dull 'I Got You'?
This was the follow-up to Impossible (iirc) and had the ballad-to-uptempo novelty of PCD's Hush x4. Really enjoyed it at the time and deserved better!
This should have been BIG! Such a unique, unconventional pop song for the time. Poor Tash.
One of the better tracks on The E.N.D. Only made #55 though.
A flop from Alesha after the misjudged Drummer Boy.
Only made #51, I guess it was a late single and everyone had the album.
'You Lost Me' is gorgeousl
Also 'I Got You' is one of Leona's better songs imo lol. Was a good upbeat number from her and should've swapped places with 'Happy'!
I recognise that Sky Ferreira song now I've heard it - hadn't realised that was also her, as I love 'Don't Forget' which was her 2022 release!
A few from me - this one reached #79:
One of my faves of the year peaked at #63:
Their last (new) Top 75 hit to date made #68:
This didn't chart but was released alongside 'Wreckin' Bar (Ra Ra Ra)' in 2010 - I caught it on one of the music TV channels then and its still my favourite of theirs:
This didn't chart either, but I prefer it to the two which did from that album:
Finally, there are non-Top 40 charting songs I could have sent for this band for 2005, 2007 and 2010, as well as in future for 2011, 2013 and 2017, but because of reasons, I'll just post this one from their 2010 album which has Regine on vocals:
Adam Lambert made his chart debut over here in 2010, this peaked at 53 and is so much better than the track that did make top 40 ('For Your Entertainment' which I guess could fit here too as it reached 37)!
@Roba I was going to put that in the 2009 thread until I remembered it was 2010, but then forgot about it such a tune! Did Pink write it?
This from Nicki Minaj:
Jason Derulo - The Sky's The Limit
After 4 top 12 hits from the album, Jason finally took the plunge to release the best song on the album but unfortunately it stalled at.. #68 </3
--
Marina & The Diamonds - Hollywood (#12)
I Am Not A Robot (#26)
Oh No! (#38)
Kinda cheating a bit with this one as all of them were top 40 hits, but I really believed she would be the next big thing and assumed all of them were destined to be huge top 10 smashes (with 'Hollywood' being a guaranteed top 3 smash!) OMG at what they've renamed 'Oh No!' too because it seems to have gone viral at some point on Tik Tok???? OMG.
--
Kate Nash - Do-Wah-Doo
Again, another that went top 40 (#15) but this one spent just 3 weeks top 100! I thought it was going to be huge </3
--
Ironik feat. Jessica Lowndes - Falling In Love
In an era where male rap with female hooks were literally taking over, I always thought this would do better than #40 and just 2 weeks top 100! An absolute STUNNER of a song!
---
Girls Can't Catch - Echo
Girls Can't Catch... a hit it seems!!!! 2010 seems to be the era of short lived top 40 hits! This pop gem had top 10 written all over it. Instead it went to #19 and spent 3 weeks top 100. Gross!
---
Kid Sister feat. Cee-Lo Green - Daydreamin'
Am I remembering correctly... did this actually get Radio 1 playlisting? What a bop. It didn't chart and deserved to either way </3
This didn't chart I don't think but a massive bop. I did have a CD of one of her early 2000's cheesy pop covers too
They did turn it around the following year with 'Moves Like Jagger' but even though it peaked at #30 I'd consider this a bit of a flop for Maroon 5 especially when considering it was the lead single off this album at the time!
Already mentioning it on my thread, Keane ft. K'naan - Stop For A Minute. Peaked at #40 in UK.
Follow up to Brandon Flowers solo debut 'Crossfire', 'Only The Young' peaked at an really low #143.
Got a fair few for this year:
Adam Lambert - If I Had You
Brian McFadden & Delta Goodrem - Mistakes
Cassette Kids - Spin
Scarlett Belle - Closure
Paloma Faith - Smoke and Mirrors
Loved this from Gabriella. Her second single 'Hearts Don't Lie' also flopped but wasn't keen on that one.
In an effort to catch up with everyone else, here’s my selection of flops from the first quarter of 2010;
Esmee Denters – Admit It [Peaked at #56 in January 2010]
Possibly not helped by being released in the first week of the year, but this follow up to the Top 10 hit Outta Here flopped badly. So did her next lead single released later this year.
Rihanna feat. Young Jeezy – Hard [Peaked at #42 in January 2010]
The single was not pushed as an international single for Rihanna but helped by the music video perhaps, she was able to reach just outside the Top 40 with this one.
Sub Focus – Could This Be Real [Peaked at #41 in January 2010]
Not accustomed yet to chart hits, this single, along with the next one, just missed out on a Top 40 position, but a couple of years later they would be much more successful.
Hot Chip – One Life Stand [Peaked at #41 in February 2010]
The last time Hot Chip were in the charts was with this single from 2010 which just failed to make it into the Top 40.
Muse – Resistance [Peaked at #38 in February 2010]
So many singles from this era deserved better after the strong peak for Uprising in 2009. This one, whilst it did make it into the Top 40, quickly fell away from the charts.
Amy MacDonald – Don’t Tell Me That It’s Over [Peaked at #48 in March 2010]
Her ability to find hits was over a long time before this single came along sadly. The Scottish singer was unable to repeat the success of her solo from 2007, and after one more attempt in 2012 called it a day on chasing chart hits.
Goldfrapp – Rocket [Peaked at #47 in March 2010]
The last single to chart for Goldfrapp as an electronic outfit. It was a good one that could have peaked higher if not perhaps for all the Glee Cast singles sticking around in the charts in 2010.
Robbie Williams – Morning Sun [Peaked at #45 in March 2010]
Up to this point, this became the lowest charting single from Robbie Williams in the UK, missing out on the Top 40 and only lasting 3 weeks in the charts.
It still baffles why Hard wasn't chosen as the third single instead of Te Amo..
Am I misremembering but I thought Hard was playlisted by Radio 1 and peaked at #42 because it had that push?
EDIT: Hard was playlisted by Radio 1 in July 2010 and it re-entered the chart but it didn't go past its previous January peak so ignore me there
The Chemical Brothers - 'Swoon'
I was lucky enough to hear this live in 2019 on their tour sadly only peaked at #85!
My findings of the second quarter of 2010 flops;
Boys Like Girls – Love Drunk [Peaked at #48 in April 2010]
Not one that I remember very much about, but this pop punk band had a go in 2008 with a single that flopped too, this did better but not enough to give them a Top 40 single.
Mini Viva – One Touch [Did Not Chart]
Why did this one never make it into the UK charts? It screams hit, and it was such a fun pop song, as good if not better than their 2009 hit Left My Heart In Tokyo. This was such a disappointing result for Mini Viva.
Cascada – Pyromania [Peaked at #60 in May 2010]
I know that I mentioned Cascada before in these threads, but this one from 2010 did deserve a mention. Another electro-pop hit in the making that wasn’t to be. Should have easily been another Top 10 hit with this Poker Face knock-off.
Hurts – Better Than Love [Peaked at #50 in May 2010]
The first charting single by Hurts peaked outside the Top 40, but it paved the way for one of the best songs of the year, despite its low peak, and that’s what matters.
Delphic – Couhterpoint [Did Not Chart]
Mentioned earlier in this thread by jimwatts, Delphic were one of the few new bands in 2010 that I took a real liking to, and for me, this was their best single, yet it failed to make ah]ny impact whatsoever which is criminal.
McLean – Finally In Love [Peaked at #44 in June 2010]
After My Name became a Top 10 hit earlier this year, one might expect his follow-up single to have some reasonable success off the back of it, but #44 was all that this could manage.
I’ve always liked Pyromania, wish it had done better.
A fan of 'Pyromania' as well. Kinda forgot about it until now though oops.
This from Nadine Coyle peaked at #26
Another OneRepublic song post today in one of these but they were on strong form for me for several years and then lost it a lot later on.
Peaked at 77.
Onto quarter three of 2010;
Gorillaz – On Melancholy Hill [Peaked at #78 in July 2010]
The British virtual band weren’t so chart successful this era as the previous two. This flop failed to make it into the Top 40 by some margin, but they were able to have a Top 40 single before the end of the year.
Justin Bieber – Somebody To Love [Peaked at #33 in July 2010]
Justin Bieber fever was everywhere in 2010, and perhaps this single deserved to do better than its #33 peak. Even an Usher remix wasn’t able to get it any higher.
Diana Vickers – The Boy Who Murdered Love [Peaked at #36 in July 2010]
X Factor contestant Diana Vickers followed up her #1 hit with this single that struggled to get any higher than a few places within the Top 40.
Klaxons – Echoes [Peaked at #55 in August 2010]
Whilst this band were able to have some chart success back in 2007, they were not able to do as well with this single three years later.
The xx – Islands [Peaked at #34 in September 2010]
It climbed and it climbed, but the peak it managed was #34, which perhaps was about right for a song from an unknown band at the time, but it’s legacy suggests it should have done better.
Nick Jonas – Introducing Me [Peaked at #51 in September 2010]
A first solo effort by Jonas Broher Nick, from the soundtrack to Camp Rock 2. It would be a few years later that he would push his own solo material to the public, but at least this one set him up a little.
Scissor Sisters – Any Which Way [Peaked at #81 in September 2010]
A failed attempt for Scissor Sisters, whose only hit this era was Fire With Fire. Perhaps if this had been pushed more with some promotion it could have stood a chance of another Top 40 hit.
I'm still not over Any Which Way not being a smash. The 7th Heaven Remix is top tier.
The Diana Vickers one I find a little baffling. From #1 single to just scraping the top 40. Was it the wrong choice prehaps?
Realised I forgot to finish 2010 flops, so here’s some highlights from the last quarter of the year;
Selena Gomez & The Scene – Round & Round [Peaked at #47 in October 2010]
Following the Too 10 hit Naturally, youngster Selena Gomez was still in the early days of her music career, and so some flops would be expected, and here is one of them.
Plan B – The Recluse [Peaked at #35 in October 2010]
2010 was a good year for Plan B. Having scored three Top 20 hits already, including the massive hit She Said in the summer, it was a post-album single that didn’t have the same impact as the others.
Kelly Rowland – Forever And A Day [Peaked at #49 in October 2010]
Kelly’s solo career has been very hit and miss, with many great singles struggling to make any sort of chart impact. Commander came before this and smashed, this didn’t.
Eliza Doolittle – Rollerblades [Peaked at #58 in October 2010]
Sticking with October flops, Eliza Doolittle had released Skinny Genes earlier in the year, but her big hit came with Pack Up which reached #5. This one did not perform as well as those.
Jamiroquai – White Knuckle Ride [Peaked at #39 in November 2010]
The last charting hit for Jamiroquai, having achieved major success in the 90s and early 00s, it seemed that there was no room in the charts for any more music from Jay Kay and co.
Alistair Griffin – Just Drive [Peaked at #38 in November 2010]
Having already broke into the music industry many years previously thanks to appearing as a contestant on Fame Academy, Alistair Griffin achieved an unlikely Top 40 single which was his last.
The Script – Nothing [Peaked at #42 in November 2010]
The second era from The Script was a far cry from their first. One hit from the album, and only this other charting single to show for it. Not their finest material but deserved a little better than it got.
Flo Rida – Turn Around (5 4 3 2 1) [Peaked at #41 in December 2010]
From a UK #1 in August to a #41 flop in December, rapper Flo Rida had a funny year of ups and downs, together with a feature on a single by The Saturdays, but this one was a flop.
Christina Aguilera – Express [Peaked at #75 in November 2010]
Taken from the soundtrack to Burlesque, this non-hit for Christina was released along with the Christmas singles of 2010 and failed to peak any higher than #75.
Duffy has to be the biggest flop of 2010. Following up a #1 era with a #41 single!
It always makes me sad whenever I speak about Duffy now tbh. What she endured and had to go through was tragic!
In the UK Owl City's follow-up to 'Fireflies' was different from the rest of the world. Either way that second hit would be out of reach for him until 2012.
The 2012 thread reminded me of this gingercide MIA music video from 2010. I don’t think it became a hit.
