BuzzJack Music Forum _ 21st Century Throwback _ Get to know… your 21st Century Throwback Mod Team!

Posted by: awardinary 18th March 2024, 10:30 PM

I thought with Scene now joining us, it would be nice to give all the many different contributors to our forum the chance to get to know the four of us better, so as a reminder, the current moderator team is made up of myself (awardinary), Roba., Yobnedor and Scene. We all love nostalgia, especially when it comes to music from the 21st Century, and we love looking back fondly on how times have changed, what was big in the charts, what artists people were mad about. Also, what TV shows, movies and games people were raving about at the time too. Much has changed, and now we are in the 25th year of this century, it’s a good time to look back on how things have changed.

This thread is a great way to get to know us all better, so please feel free to ask as few or as many questions, and we will all do our best to answer them! smile.gif

Looking forward to what you all have to say to us! tongue.gif

Literally too many to name but I guess the most impactful for me at the time was Umbrella. I remember hearing its first play months before its release/promotion and instantly fell in love with it yet could never have predicted it becoming a 10-week #1.

'Because of You' which was my #1 when I did my top 235 of 00's in 2013 but 'Bring Me To Life' is a 2nd.

Did you check any Lithuanian girl groups after my recommendation ?

I wonder is Scene a fan of the scene music/subculture from the 00s

Metro Station is one of the 'scene' bands and Shake It was a bop!

That’s probably something to give some more thought about, but one of them I will say is One Day Like This from Elbow. heart.gif

Hmm, well All Saints are up there, as are Girls Aloud, Sugababes, Pussycat Dolls, Mis-Teeq and others. I’ll give this one some more thought.

Tell me where I should start and I will add to my song queue on Spotify. Maybe I can send a Lithuanian artist I like to BJSC one day as they are underrepresented.

YVA is not available on Spotify sad.gif , so you can start with a greatest hits compilation by Mokinukes and two my favourite albums by Mango - Raskila (2004) and 2020.

Favourite girl group era would be Sugababes - Angels With Dirty Faces (with Sugababes - Change also being a fave girl group era of mine.)

Lead Single - All Saints - Pure Shores
Second Single - Sugababes - Round Round (tough one though as I love 'I Hate This Part' as well).

I can’t say I’ve really listened to much of it out of choice. I’ll give Metro Station a spin. The name sounds familiar.

Please Don’t Leave Me, Paparazzi and Beautiful but very difficult to choose.

RATM or Joe McElderry ?

Posted by: Roba. 20th March 2024, 09:33 PM

I'll go for 'Everytime' for best video and I don't think it's one that's talked about quite as much. Emotional song with an intense and deep video.

I was on team Rage at the time but tbh I'm not mad on it outside of the campaign much ph34r.gif

RATM. Amazing chart moment - much prefer Miley’s version of TC.

Miley's version is so much better. Also it will be popping up in the next survivor too wink.gif

I didn't see any concerts in that decade but I saw Rihanna's Loud tour in 2011 and it was incredible. wub.gif She brought an audience member on stage and straddled them during 'Skin'. laugh.gif

Radiohead in 2008!

Posted by: Roba. 28th March 2024, 11:55 AM

Would be Linkin Park in 2014 for me. First time at the 02 Arena. They did some quickie mix up of some of their hits near the end mind (especially What I've Done) but still was worth it and a fab time. Seems very poignant now though </3

Probably a cliche answer but Girls Aloud - Call The Shots. It was so amazing watching them enter their imperial phase with this single. Five singles later, they were hanging up their stilettos! Madness.

PCD’s debut era was a perfect run of singles. Lead single would probably have to be Sexy! No No No or Don’t Cha. Second single would have to be Round Round / Call The Shots / Biology / Up (The Saturdays)

Joe McElderry and it isn’t even a contest. The irony of the song picked by the RATM fans seemed 100% lost on them.
