I'll start with Wet Wet Wet with their 10 peaking single in 2008 which plummented to 90 something the next week. Remember commenting on that at the time on here. Iconic fall!
Also this and I rather like it but not surprising it's forgotten tbh.
Love 'Dance With Me'. I rediscovered it 2 years ago.
From 2003 - both sides are decent actually
Debelah Morgan’s Dance With Me is a BOP!
I feel like I’d like Son of Dork more if James Bourne wasn’t a part of it. Never been a fan - Busted, SOD or solo!
How about They and Just a Ride by Jem. They made the top ten right?
I wouldn't have said any of those 3 are forgotten by me personally. Also agreed that 'Movies' >>>>>>>>> 'Smooth Criminal'. Also 'Last Resort' is a tune too.
Speaking of ones that are from the Teenage Dirtbags album I have which have songs like these...
also this one from Bryan Adams seems fairly forgotten too.
These for starters;
Forgot how naff that BBMak follow up was. 'Back Here' is solid though and I got the CD from Woolworths at the time.
That Spooks song is like a mid point between Black Eyed Peas, Fugees and Big Brovaz. I remember at the time thinking it would become a classic but...that didn't happen.
Sunshine Anderson another good call, completely forgot about that.
Just playing this out of randomness on Spotify and reminded me in such a big year musically for 2006 songs, this lovely Texas track from January featuring Peter Kay in the video!
Why have one forgotten Top 10 hit when you can have two:
Triple Eight - Knockout (#8, 2003)
Triple Eight - Give Me A Reason (#9, 2003)
or even three:
D-Side - Speechless (#9, 2003)
D-Side - Invisible (#7, 2003)
D-Side - Real World (#9, 2003)
Says it all when I not only don't remember them but haven't heard of them in the first place
I'm quite ashamed to say I can still hum the chorus of 'Give Me a Reason' and 'Speechless' despite the fact I only heard them a couple of times at the time.
Shaggy’s Luv Me Luv Me and Hey Sexy Lady sprang to mind for me yesterday too.
Clearly only hits off the back of the success of It Wasn’t Me and Angel, and Me Julie.
Also Bhangra Knights and Husan? Who has heard that since 2003?
The Twang 'Either Way' as well. Indie fans would probably remember it mind but forgotten for others.
Hands up who remembers that Raghav had 4 top 10 hits?
24/01/2004 2Play Featuring Raghav And Jucxi So Confused 6 8-{6}-9-7-10-12-18-29-38-50-64-69-75->13
28/02/2004 Raghav Can't Get Enough 10 {10}-17-26-41-58-71-67-66->8
22/05/2004 2Play Featuring Raghav And Naila Boss It Can't Be Right 8 {8}-15-21-33-46-66-74->7
19/02/2005 Raghav Angel Eyes 7 {7}-15-25-39-49-56->6
Can't Get Enough is an absolute bop by the way
This early #10 hit from 2003 from rapper Cam'ron and Juelz Santana.
I feel like 2004 was the key year for random/forgotten top 10 hits.
Probably because it was so much easier for just about anything to get there before downloads were added in '05?
2004-2006 are my 3 favourite years after 2009 for music. I feel like they were definitely the most "diverse" years for chart music! Pop, rnb, rock, indie, dance... every genre felt like they had a few smashes.
Yes it’s harder to think of forgotten top ten hits from 2008/9, especially the extremely sluggish 2008. At least you could argue most songs got to the top ten on merit that year and not because of quick fanbase sales.
Actually I do have a good one from then:
Definitely couldn’t hum this from memory if I tried and it got to No.3!
Peaked at #4 but don't recall it much despite playing it at the time.
Also not one that All Saints fans will forget but again for a lot of people this doesn't seem to remembered nowadays (noticed it in Rich's thread though)
I was reminded of this recently because of the new Switch Disco ft Ella Henderson track - as it is another example of a dance track that uses Robert Miles style classical piano although this Artful Dodger ft. Michelle Escoffery track doesn't sample Robert Miles. 'Do You Think About Me' is great, the piano makes it a very lovely song.
From 2004, this got to number 7, Marillion's first top 10 single since 1987.
another one from... a Christian band, peaked at 4 in 2010 around Easter. Remember there being a campaign to get it in the chart.
Funnily enough they are not far from where I am.
If 'Husan' is forgotten it needs to be unforgotten immediately, what a banger. (Admittedly it's kind of just diet 'Mundian To Bach Ke' but still)
Both amazing tracks though!
I loved 'Husan' at the time, I even bought it on single!
I remember it basically piggybacked off that advert, which was all over TV for months but I can't recall what it was for or find it anywhere.
Is this it the Peugeot 206 advert:
In reference to someone in the All Saints thread completely forgetting Saints & Sinners even had a third single, I think this deserves a nomination:
It's funny, but I think the reason why All Hooked Up has been forgotten is that All Saints themselves have barely performed it, which I think plays a huge part if a song is remembered or not. I checked Setlist.fm and they've only done it as a part of a medley since they've been back. If an artist can't bother keeping a song alive in the minds of the public, then why should we remember it?
Also, that video has a funny (and creepy!) concept, but it's so badly executed.
I guess continuing the All Saints' theme, I'd say Shaznay's solo debut is sadly forgotten (which it shouldn't be because it's an excellent piece of pop, damn you UK for sleeping on Shaz):
Anyone else remember Hanson getting another top 10 hit in 2005?
Having said that, they did perform this on Neighbours back in 2019.
I was thinking of the Shaznay song this week. I didn’t hear it until about 10 years ago but I’ve always enjoyed it.
These 3 songs had identical Top 40 runs of 10-28-x in 2003:
One True Voice - Shakespeare's Way With Words
Limp Bizkit - Eat You Alive
Pet Shop Boys - Miracles
I can only recall how one of them goes, unfortunately for me it's the One True Voice song
I don't know if I would call PSB's Miracles "forgotten" - it pops up on their compilations and live shows; sure it's not exactly a well-known single but I think it's also one that people might remember once they hear it (their single have been seemingly frontloaded since the 90s).
Faye from Steps and classical singer Russell Watson had this top ten hit in 2002:
Lovely song but hardly commercial.
Talking of classical stars, here's Aled Jones with Terry Wogan as BandAged on Little Drumer Boy, No.3 in 2008:
I saw X Factor mentioned earlier which reminded me of this follow up to Leon's coronation single.
This is why I love reading the music section on Buzzjack forums. So much nostalgia. Keep them coming, guys.
As I was a kid growing up in the 2000's, I thought I would share a few forgotten Top 10 hits from the decade.
2007
2003
2009
2005
May I ask how you came up with your username?
Fair enough!
I liked Leon’s follow up!
This seems quite forgotten to me! -
#3 hit in February 2000. Ended up at 153rd in the 2000 EOY with 102,000 sales. With less than 140,000 Spotify streams and 104,000 views on YouTube, I won't be holding my breath for this single to ever go Silver!
This was Fierce's fourth single, following peaks of #25, #11 and #15 with their first three singles in 1999. So this single was a bit of breakthrough moment for them by reaching #3, but... it ended up being their final single!
I don’t think Perfect (Exceeder) is that forgotten?
I definitely remember the Mason track (and still to this day love it as the original instrumental) - the Spooks and Fatboy Slim singles from earlier in the thread I could immediately sing as well.
I remember the Esmee Denters and Mason track as well.
A selection that I forgot about.
Sweet Love 2K is a good example of a forgotten top three, or at least one you never hear anymore, although back in the day commercial radio played it a lot. Seems such a random top three hit looking back. My mum bought their album, probably one of the few people that did!
'Sweet Love 2K' really did feel quite big at the time, but yeah I haven't heard that anywhere in at least 15 years.
What was the story behind them never releasing anything again after getting by far their biggest hit?
A couple of duets that I don't really hear anyone talk about anymore:
Duncan James & Keedie - I Believe My Heart (2004) [Peaked at #2]
> I have a big soft spot for this! It's really lovely! <
---
LeAnn Rimes & Ronan Keating - Last Thing On My Mind (2004) [Peaked at #5]
> Such a catchy, MOR bop! <
---
Delta Goodrem & Brian McFadden - Almost Here (2005) [Peaked at #3]
> I'm sure the Delta fans amongst us haven't forgot about this, but I think in the wider scheme of things this is forgotten about. It's really nice. <
---
Meat Loaf & Marion Raven - It's All Coming Back To Me Now (2006) [Peaked at #6]
> Yes, the song is one of the most popular songs around, but this specific version of this song is forgotten about and that sucks tbh coz Marion's ad-libs are GORGEOUS! They actually impacted me so much that I do them to Celine's version too lol. <
---
Russell Watson & Faye Tozer - Someone Like You (2002) [Peaked at #10]
> I actually don't remember this song, but I just remember Faye (the best member of STEPS x) having a top 10 hit lol. <
Melanie C - Next Best Superstar
Liz McClarnon - Woman In Love
The Corrs - Summer Sunshine
2/3 ain’t bad!
I wanted to post Lee Ryan’s When I Think Of You but I don’t even think that hit the top 40. Shame, as it’s better than the first two singles anyway! Unfortunately, he’s a bit of a dick.
'Almost Here' & 'It's All Coming Back To Me' the Meat Loaf cover are great!
Didn't Ronan have a top 10 in 2006 as well. That's very forgotten and I can't recall how it goes
The same era he covered 'Iris' but that charted further down.
Yes- 'All Over Again' with Kate Rusby, it reached #6.
'Lost For Words' (#9, 2003) is perhaps his most forgotten.
Mary J Blige - Dance With Me is forgotten about
Omg Triple 8 wss that band that was going aeound, saying how hard they were as fighters!!!!
Radio 1 just played 'Last Nite' by The Strokes, which I'd say is probably their most well known song? But it never went Top 10, however 12:51 went to #7 and Juicebox went to #5, both probably more forgettable tbh
This:
I still play this fairly regularly and it's so good, but I don't think I've heard it anywhere since it was out and I'd be surprised if many people who aren't avid chart followers even remember it.
An forgotten bop! No one ever talks about it.
It was. Reached 8. I don't even know it let alone remember. A lot of songs went past me whilst I was out of the charts for a couple of years lol.
I think Matinee is my favourite!
Loved Don’t Think I’m Not back in the day, such a great song.
This was spammed on music channels at the time but it very forgotten now.
I had a crush on Kaci back in the day liked both of her singles too. Bought the latter too I believe. She released a song called 'Paradise' as well which didn't go top 10 iirc.
Also if Popchart browses this forum then he may or may not know that 'I Think I Love You' is a cover originally recorded by David Cassidy!
Kaci did also return with the completely mature sounding 'Crazy Possessive' which this time included her surname Battaglia, in 2010 which topped my chart as well.
Love this one as well.
'Crazy Possessive' deserved to be MASSIVE! Idk why it wasn't at the time.
I mean, Kaci was on Curb which has next to no presence in Europe, so it was a given it was going to do nothing here unfortunately unless it was licensed to another label to handle.
Poor Pixie Lott's career has been a bit forgotten really, considering she managed three No.1s, I honestly can't say I hear any of them anywhere anymore.
I have suddenly remembered about this version of Mama Do I stumbled across on a Swedish compilation album that I uploaded to YouTube myself at the time, because as far as I can see, it wasn't released anywhere else? It has a spoken word intro and different production - I wonder if it was the original demo before they made it more UK friendly in sound?
The original demo of Boys & Girls I sent to BJSC way back in 2008, a year before she was even known as an artist I found her through MySpace at the time and she only had a few hundred 'friends'.
Again, you can hear the progression to the eventual radio edit we got.
Thanks for posting gooddelta. Never heard that spoken word into for Mama Do.
She was pretty big in 2009/10 wasn’t she?
Surprisingly big, she had a long run of hits and a huge album, but didn't really feel like she fit the chart landscape at the time, she felt more like the sort of singer who would have been big in the late 90s/early 00s.
Three No.1 hits!
Mama Do had a lot of airplay at the time in particular, and Cry Me Out, but I've not heard them in years.
'Cry Me Out'
It is rather surprising when you consider she had a near-million selling album to accompany those and seemed pretty much everywhere in 2009/2010. It's quite funny how her career draws such similar parallels with that of Billie Piper.
I don't even hear her songs in gay clubs like I do with the likes of The Saturdays (or even the aforementioned Billie's 'Day & Night') etc, that's how consigned to forgotten history she is!
I always got the impression that Pixie Lott appealed to a young audience (think pre-tweens) and that audience just never followed her along to their tweens/teen years. It does feel like she was a pop star that could've had a career a decade or two ago when television was filled with kid's programs to promote on; but as it was she just had no place in pop.
I do admit 'Mama Do' especially never striked me as the type of track to go to #1. If anything it sounded like the sort that'd peak at #5 and have a fairly short run not 9 or 10 weeks like it did have.
'Boys & Girls' at least sounds a bit more in with the pop sound but maybe a bit dated still by a few years.
I heard Summer Girls by Lyte Funkie Ones on a CD yesterday and it reminded me of their early 2000 top 10 hit Girl On TV, which I can't imagine is widely remembered.
Catchy little track, about Jennifer Love Hewitt, who Rich from the band was dating at the time.
Upon reading what the band were up to now, it seems two of its three members died of cancer, Rich in 2010 then Devin in 2018
This was a top 10 in 2002, not sure I know it well or remember it.
^ That song actually had a quite decent chart run too (from Polyhex):
{3}-4-5-9-17-19-27-30-35-50-69-73->12wks
So it wasn't your typical "peak at ten and spend three weeks in the top 75" type of song. I can't help to think Truth Hurts is a horrible name for a solo artist though.
A few I don't remember even reaching the Top 10:
I remember most of his Top 10 hits but not this one:
Judging by the listenthrough currently, this one needs to be here:
We haven’t had the lowest selling Top 10 of the decade yet - which by the way is absolutely an underrated bop:
I actually prefer it to their other three #8 hits in the 2000s plus Drowning, and its video is fun, but I guess its Top 100 run of 8-36-75-x shows it wasn't that big.
Sunrise was such a good track, I loved the Sunset mix on the CD single, it worked well as a ballad.
Another Day sounded like an attempt to recreate If You're Not The One to me.
Surprised that BSB song was the lowest selling top 10 of the 00s, there seem like so many more flash in the pans that I'd have expected to take the title than that, but I guess it was in a really low sales period so makes sense.
For somebody who became so huge a decade later, a lot of people I know say WTF when I tell them Sia had her first top 10 hit in 2000. I wouldn't say it's a particularly well remembered track.
The following week it was replaced in the top 10 by P!nk with her debut hit There You Go. At the time, there is no way in a million years I'd expect even one of this pair to have even five years of chart longevity, let alone over 20.
Friday Hill - Baby Goodbye
Peaked at 6 and did feature on a Now album but they feel very forgotten and despite being on said NOW! I can't recall how it goes now lmao.
I quite liked that, probably better than anything Blazin' Squad released for me. Doesn't seem to be on streaming.
Got to No.5 with six weeks in the top 40 too so not a complete flash in the pan.
I feel like this is really quite forgotten (and seemed to be fairly quickly since), but it's SUCH a tune
I’m interested to know if the stat about the Backstreet Boys single being the lowest selling Top 10 of the 00s is based on sales just within the 2000s decade or if it’s still the case now? Is there any possibility that streaming units could have pushed it over something else?
~
You couldn’t really get further away from “forgotten Top 10” if you tried, so I appreciate this isn’t the best thread to launch into this… but from an “at the time” perspective… it still amazes me that The Killers - Mr Brightside didn’t even make it into the End of Year 2004 Top 200 chart. I’m not sure what it sold that year - maybe under 30,000 copies? It sold 12,700 to reach #10. As of July 2017 it had sold 18,651 CDs and 3,861 Vinyl (22,512 overall) and most of that surely must have been sold in 2004.
Mr Brightside was released 2 weeks before the Hot Fuss album, which initially had this chart run off the back of it: 6-25-25-29-42… then the album began to climb when All These Things That I’ve Done started to get promotion.
The love for Mr Brightside clearly grew as the Hot Fuss era became huge in 2005 and somehow that’s never diminished over 18 years on. It just seems funny to think that when it was actually released as a single, the UK public didn’t latch on with a huge amount of enthusiasm, with rather small numbers buying it on CD/Vinyl single. Back then it must have been down there as being one of the worst selling UK Top 10 hits? Radio was quite cold to the song at that stage, just a few weeks low Top 100 in the airplay chart, so that probably explains it.
Final thing about Mr Brightside: I don’t think I realised that it was initially released as a single in September 2003. It didn’t make the Top 200 singles chart at that point, but apparently only 500 CDs and 500 Vinyl were pressed in that initial run so I guess there wasn’t an aim for it to chart then.
~
I bought Lemar - Another Day (I agree it was If You’re Not the One Part II) and Angel City - Sunrise! I also preferred Friday Hill - Baby Goodbye to anything Blazin Squad released.
Truth Hurts - Addictive caught me by surprise in 2002 because it didn’t seem to me like it was destined to do that well - 4 weeks in the Top 10 was very good going. I really liked it though and I still do. At the time, in terms of R&B newcomers from the US, Tweet - Oops (Oh My) felt to me like it got more exposure, but it didn’t do as well as Addictive.
End of essay
Wasn't the End of Year 2004 top 200 chart based only on physical sales and not downloads? Mr Brightside's recorded sales for 2004 could therefore have been no more than 22,512 which surely wasn't enough for EOY top 200 even in the low sales climate. It did re-enter the weekly Top 100 in the final week of 2004 though, so there was significant sustained interest in it even before the re-release of Somebody Told Me went to #3.
Back on topic, when Mr Brightside was at #10, this was the song at #9:
Thank you for linking that thread! Poor Melanie C being in the Top 20. Plus two Rachel Stevens songs... both bops.
14,300 sales as a total (back then) for a Top 10 single, wow... it's pretty crazy just how horrible sales became by 2005. I had a look on Spotify and Just Want You to Know has managed over 24 million streams, although this is a worldwide figure, so there's no way of telling how much streaming it gets in the UK.
2nd on that list, Manic Street Preachers - Autumnsong [14,800 sales] has 9.5m streams on Spotify, and I'd assume that's more concentrated in the UK than Backstreet Boys' song would be, so I'd guess Autumnsong still has a higher total.
3rd - Darkness - Is It Just Me [14,900] has 3 million Spotify streams, so maybe that could have slipped behind?
If not that, then 4th - Sham 69 - Hurry Up England - The People's Anthem [15,100] may very well be the lowest now, with it only having 382,000 Spotify streams to date.
I remember my mum really liking that Kristian Leontiou song lol *_*
I have the CD for 'Story of my Life' and liked it a lot too, even played it recently but as far as general public goes I doubt anyone remembers him or his songs too well.
He had another almost top 10 track too, called Shining, I liked that a little more than Story Of My Life.
I must admit my first thought before recalling Gezza's thread was that the Sham 69 song was probably the lowest selling now, or something else that has minimal streaming. 24m streams for the BSB song must include a small chunk from the UK at least.
Oh undoubtedly the Backstreet Boys track will be nowhere near the bottom now in that case as 24 million on Spoti will be much more than most of those on that list. If just a couple of million of those are UK that’s 20,000 extra “sales” - more than it had in the first place!
A couple of UK top 20 hits from Australian sisters from 2009.
I love them so much
I'd say 'Untouched' is fairly remembered, it remains one Radio 1 play regularly all these years on and it's always used in things like football coverage (well, the strings/backing track anyway)
Glad they’re fondly remembered. That’s probably my least favourite of the three 4ever videos.
Their first album had some great songs. Well single really. Everything I’m Not, When It All Falls Apart, Revolution and Leave Me Alone.
The Secret Life of... was a defining album of my teenage years, I still love it just as much (second and third albums also really good, although glad they switched it up a bit!)
Second albums had its moments, but for the third one I only really liked You Ruin Me and If You Love Someone. Haven’t heard their last two albums from 2021.
This one just came up for me on Shuffle. #9 in Jan 2002.
Human was definitely better than Godzilla, which was a bit of a racket, but neither touch any of their previous albums.
Wow, I've loved 'All About Us' forever and never knew The Veronicas wrote it...it makes sense!
I just listened to Whitney Houston - Million Dollar Bill which went top 5 in 2009. Definitely seems forgotten to me, I haven't seen or heard it anywhere in years.
I do hear 'Million Dollar Bill' on Heart Fm on the odd occasion. 'All About Us' is great as well and The Veronicas 2014 album is great too. Never heard the 2009 album before so could be a good one indeed to suggest for future albums. I never got the appeal of 'Untouched' back then (unpopular opinion) but I've come round to it since. The strings on it are fab though!
In retrospect, I'm not sure why I posted since we're discussing UK top 10s and I'm not in the UK.
Dante Thomas - Miss California (ft. Pras)
Not sure how well remembered this is in the UK but this was massive in Australia for the summer of 2001/02.
Don't recall it myself and the fact it made it to #25 here explains it.
I went on holiday to Tunisia in 2001 and Miss California was playing every few hours by the swimming pools! I don’t think I’d have particularly known it otherwise.
Yeah, I saw it missed the top 20 in the UK, it git to #5 in Australia. I think being released around summertime helped it.
I was thinking it must have been huge in Germany too, because it appears on loads of German 00s compilations I've got. Just checked and it got to No.1 there.
I do remember its UK release and thinking it would be a lot bigger than it was.
Here are a few more forgotten top ten hits from the 00's.
2008
2003
2006
I would say 'Faster Kill Pussycat ' is quite memorable.
I did think of 'Just For Tonight' tbh. Decent track but fairly forgotten indeed nowadays!
Stop Sign for Abs too, which got to 10 in 2003.
Quite a forgettable solo career all round although there was a nice song called 7 Ways on his album. I can’t remember if it was maybe due to be a single and cancelled.
Not sure if this has mentioned before, apologies if it has:
That was a surprising underperformance for me. Quite like Switch It On.
Move Tjis Mountain wasn't a top 10 or even released.
That Sia song id SHOCKING though
On topic of Bob Sinclar after popping up in Rich's thread, I don't really recall this one that went top 10 in 2000. Listening to it now and it's decent enough though.
One of the best funky house anthems ever
I also stumbled across this 2000's gem from Natasha Bedingfield.
You never hear this on the radio anymore. One of her best songs, I think.
'Soulmate' I'm not a Natasha fan and wasn't a fan of any of her stuff beforehand so this one was a lovely surprise. To be fair anything sounds incredible following that utter trash 'I Wanna Have Your Babies'
Whatever happened to NBed?
Blame Sean Kingston
Soulmate is stunning, one of her best. It’s baffling I Wanna Have Your Babies was chosen as lead.
The US edition of the album had some strong songs too, Angel and Pocketful of Sunshine.
Strip Me (single) was also great. Wish it was on Spotify.
I think of 'I Wanna Have Your Babies' as one of the key examples of a career killing single!
I couldn't remember I Wanna Have Your Babies so just had a listen. What a mess!!
How did both Daniel and Natasha manage to ruin their career after one massive album with some huge singles?
Not from 2000-2009 but we're fine with expanding this to the next decade now if you want. This one hit wonder Mclean in 2010.
I do vaguely remember it myself but for others it'll be a 'how does it go' and it feels like one of those songs that did well off the back of Taio Cruz etc who were scoring hits at the time!
Follow up to 'I'll Be Ready'. A cover of Robin Beck's #1 in the 80's!
I've always enjoyed I Wanna Have Your Babies and had no idea it garnered this much disdain! I remember at the time it came out however that I completely misinterpreted the meaning of the song and thought it was about kidnapping.
I Wanna Have Your Babies it was a strange song from Natasha Bedingfield and her making that weird noise in the song.
Kinda remembered this for just those 3 or so weeks it was around but tbh I clicked on this one not recalling it very hard now and wasn't memorable in the first place really in general.
Icr if it's been said in this thread yet or not but:
LOVE this! I feel like it was a massive hit at the time, but nobody really talks about it anymore
Whilst a lot of us are voting Mika out of a Survivor. Me and Rich were talking on Facebook and we brought up how 'We Are Golden' and his entire 2nd era feels massively forgotten in retrospect to his mammoth first era.
Peaked at 4 in August 2009. It was a chart topper for me personally and finished inside my EOY top 10 also but it doesn't get talking about even a year later after it came out it wasn't talked about like his first album singles were!
This was No.9 in 2002, a chart campaign of some sort to get him a top ten hit, which worked:
Can't remember if this has been posted
I loved this Atomic Kitten song as an album track back in 2001 (from the original album released in 2000), yet it was for some reason left until 2005 for a random single release, where it peaked at No.10
Edited this to include any top 20 songs since I think we've exhausted all the top 10 ones now.
Ricky Martins return to the UK Charts after nearly 4 years and this feels forgotten to me (the fact it wasn't good as well). Peaked at 11!
Okay this did peak at #2 and have a decent chart run in the top 40 but this doesn't feel to remembered now.. he is a one hit wonder after all too.
This #11 hit, with a sample that featured in Lloyds TSB adverts at the time, feels pretty forgotten now:
Mark Brown feat. Sarah Cracknell - The Journey Continues
I still love it
Don't think I've posted this one yet. Love it!
Didn't watch the show and don't remember it at all yet peaked at 7 in 2010!
With the talk of ATB on the forum over the past few days, it reminded me that he actually had three top five hits here, the third of which was a pointless cover of Adamski's Killer, which sounds almost the same but a bit faster and with added bendy synth on the UK radio edit (it wasn't as prominent on the album version, I guess they thought we only bought into his music for that one schtick ).
I didn't care one bit for this, sadly, but loved his other singles from 2000, The Summer (which I picked up on import as it didn't get a UK release), and The Fields Of Love with York, which reached No.16.
My first post in here was about Wet Wet Wet and yet Now 49 has reminded me of the lead singer Marti Pellow's debut solo release 'Close To You' which peaked at #9 and spent like 5 weeks top 40 I think.
In late 2005/early 2006 Irish singer Brian Kennedy hit No.4 with a Tribute to George Best, the lead track of the EP being his version of You Raise Me Up, which had been a big hit for Westlife in 2005.
It had quite a chart run too, so wasn't a fleeting hit: 21-11-4-5-11-12-22-30-38-62
Can honestly never remember hearing this on the chart show.
Brian represented Ireland at Eurovision five months later, and finished 10th with Every Song Is A Cry For Love, which didn't get a single release but probably should have done, seeing as we gave it 8 points and he was coming off the back of a huge hit.
Una from The Saturdays on the backing vocals there too.
I know it probably won't be among Saturdays fans but '30 Days' feels very forgotten to me. Bop though.
I had to think how it goes…
30 Days is extremely underrated.
Just remembered this one, was the follow up the 'Crazy' and did make the top 10 and spent 8 weeks top 40 but I doubt it's even recalled much.
On the back of it criminally exiting the Survivor in the 1st round, I feel moved to take a moment to appreciate the brilliance of this superb piece of East meets West culture.
The first YouTube comment I read sums it up perfectly:
“This song was so underrated… that beat… that rap verse… they don’t make singles like this anymore”.
That result in the survivor was so unjust! Like was said the thread, it was massive at the time. I remember that summer it was all over the radio, playing from everyone's car etc and I haven't really heard it in the wild since.
Also really interested to know what happened to her after this, was there even a follow-up single?
Yeah I mentioned a lot of it in the commentary I did this week for it. Was a court case involved surrounding using some other artists music which I guess killed her career off oops.
It's one of those very rare songs that - as far as I can see - has never been included on any sort of compilation album either.
So in any retrospectives it has just been completely forgotten about, initially I guess due to the sample issues but it's never really played on the radio/in clubs etc. You'd never know it was an enduring top three hit.
There was another similarish sounding hit the year after by Erick Sermon called React who'd also go down as bit of a one-hit wonder though he did have one other top 40 hit 2 years before.
Anyone remember this trance song? Peaked at #21 in 2000 but was re-released 2 years later and made the top 10.
This I remember seeing the music video premiere on T4:
A festive one.
Reached No.5 in 2005, I don't remember this at all:
One of those was enough
Alex Day - Forever Yours - No.4 at Christmas 2011
I think I may have bought this at the time!
He was a Buzzjack member!
Was trawling through youtube earlier and suddenly came across this one lol.
^
That can stay forgotten thanks.
A tune *_*
This feels massively forgotten by Will Young. Peaked at 10 but he quickly shifted attention to 'Grace' with an X Factor performance.
One of his best^
just when I mention Will I forget Gareth also released a song called 'Changes' a year before and reached 14 safe to say Will had more longevity and rightfully so!
