(I'm fairly sure that I had their 2000 calendar too, but I suspect that my parents threw it away years ago, because I've not come across it in a long time. Unless it's hiding somewhere in a box in the attic?)

I don't really recall if I had any other merchandise items from them during their heyday. I might have done! If I did they must have been thrown away or got lost.

There's certainly room for improvement in my collection! I don't have these singles:

Apart from DJ CD2, I don't have any other H & Claire singles or even their album. I don't have any Lisa Scott-Lee releases (shame on me!) or the Faye Tozer duet single.

Maybe someday I'll try and fill in those gaps ^

There's other Steps books I don't own from the 90s/00s, but I'm not too fussed about those. I should probably get Claire Richards' autobiography at some point!

A big gap in my collection is Steps VHS and/or DVDs of their tours from their heyday.

What an incredible collection, Ghosty! It seems like you own everything there is to own, in terms of UK releases?


When it comes to their singles, I will always think that it's a bit of a shame that they were inconsistent with whether they'd just release one CD or do a two CD set.

Heartbeat/Tragedy clearly did amazingly with one CD format, but I would have loved for there to be a second CD with Tragedy video themed artwork. I also feel the same for When I Said Goodbye/Summer of Love. Summer of Love is such a colourful, summery and uptempo bop - it was worthy of more suitable artwork. The shot from the When I Said Goodbye is pretty much the antithesis of Summer of Love's mood lol. I don't think it was a great decision to make When I Said Goodbye the "main" song from that Double A Side... I'd say that Summer of Love went on to be the more celebrated song in the fan base, and more well known to the public.

Beyond those two singles, the other releases that only had one CD are - 5,6,7,8, After the Love Has Gone, Say You'll Be Mine/Better the Devil You Know (this did have two CDs, but bizarrely they were different formats with the same track listing), Deeper Shade of Blue, Stomp, It's the Way You Make Me Feel, Words Are Not Enough/I Know Him So Well.

I always wonder what made labels decide "this single only requires 1 CD" and "let's make this one a two CD set"... it's so inconsistent!

Thanks Jay. I probably am missing a fair few UK releases, but it was my aim to try and get the vast majority of the officially released formats in the UK.

It's certainly an interesting talking point with regards to the decision to release one CD single or two, and I agree, it is a shame that so many of their releases had just the one CD single - it probably would have got them at least another number one hit with It's The Way You Make Me Feel had there been 2 CDs, and elevated some of the others to more deserving chart positions than they achieved.

I can't figure out what influenced the decisions myself. Apart from 5,6,7,8, all of the singles should have had 2 CD treatment - one with a b-side and instrumental and one with remixes.

It's truly bizarre they didn't all get the 2 CD treatment (bar 5678)... I wonder what their reasoning was... did they not want Steps to get the best possible chart position?

My original The Last Dance was the flip case type one, but I lost it along with others when we did renovations at home in 2005. I had to replace it with the plastic jewel case.

The £2 cd singles recently released by some artists were very good value. £5 for vinyl single would be an attractive price to encourage people to buy them.

If people are to buy into them again the price will be a big factor, i was always a huge fan of singles especially if i was getting a new b side and i would easily buy singles again if they released and affordable.

I really liked the TOTD singles release and would like that again, I was sure tgey would do it with WTFH aswell, a singles boost from both albums I would have liked.

I don’t think they’ve been quite as *on it* for the WTFH singles as they were for the TOTD ones.

That being said, they’ve still gone way over and above anything I expected and they still put Spice Girls to shame.

I'd say it could be record label decision but I'd be surprised if bmg don't cotton on to the fact that vinyl singles have big potential. Bmg are usually very good at taking advantage of the physical market.

They went all out on both those releases with physicals so hopefully the next album is the same along with some physicals singles. I think this year will see a few more artists release vinyl singles to test the water which may open up something for Steps whenever they make their return.

I was expecting a singles boxset from both WTFH eras, it's a shame they didn't do it. I believe a fan asked Faye during one of the signings and she was a bit "what the hell" about it so don't think it was on any of their radars tbh.

I had a photo that I took of my collection at the time (December 28, 2001). I remember as that’s the day I heard Steps had split. I’m not sure if I even still have the photo, I’ll need to try and track in down.

I don't think I ever knew that there was a 'Best of Steps' CD. I see it was for the US/Canada markets and that it omits a few of the singles!

It was an interesting release because they never took off in the States. Funny enough I saw this at a local site and could get it quite easy for a normal price.

I can see Steptacular on our eBay store at the moment.

No wishes for mine now, I stopped collecting a while back. When we did renovations in 2005 a lot of my old stuff got mistakenly given away.

Haven’t bothered to replace it since sadly.

I just started looking on ebay to see what prices are like and ended up buying the Something in Your Eyes - Upfront Brand New 4 Remix Brazilian Cd Promo which was priced decently, including postage was just shy of €15.
The 5,6,7,8 Collection is available at great prices, i have it myself as it has a very decent track listing but for anyone looking for it its going cheap as are some of their older cd singles and their first 3 albums on cd.
