Not sure how well Pray To God would do, it's close to exiting the Survivor and it wasn't even a top 20 hit. Although it did have somewhat of a cult following here so it'd probably (hopefully) survive into the next round. Let's go for it.

We made it through by the skin of our teeth thank god 😂

Next one is a triple elimination so we need to up our game. INYL sounds good, I think that’s more liked than Outside if we’re going Ellie collabs.

We need to make sure we get the Rihanna collabs and One Kiss before the other AFs do too but it’s probably too early to bring those out.

So One Kiss has been taken from us by Dua but we still have We Found Love if we wanna be cheeky and send that before Rihanna get to it (judging by the survivor poll I don't think sending TIWYCF will do us much of a favour so it's WFL or nothing in terms of RiRi collabs).

We could also go for I'm Not Alone, How Deep Is Your Love or Sweet Nothing.

Well we're coming last easily this round oops, but I'm not sure what we could have submitted which wouldn't put us in this position (I don't think Spectrum counts as a Calvin song as he wasn't credited officially - and I think that wouldn't have got many more votes) and we had to go out sometime.

"Ecstasy" seems the most appropriated choice to be honest. I would say "Burns Night" may work as an instrumental ballad too. However, could "Faith" be an option too?

Either way, I think that we should pick and/or decide the songs to be picked for the rounds with restrictions first and then, go to the ones with free choices.

Eligible songs are: Acceptable in the 80s, I'm Not Alone, Bounce, Under Control, Slide

Depends on how strong the competition is, we probably won't last too long but we shouldn't send INA this early. 80s finished the 2nd highest in the rate out of that lot but all of them are popular.

A song without an official music video
has to be Slide for this one.

Worst single
That rate bottom 3 (Open Wide, Off The Record, Hype) all seem very much doomed but thankfully we have the option to go for bottom 3 sellers too (do we know what those are? I'm going to presume Merrymaking, Faking It and Nuh Ready [from official singles as a primary performer])

A non-top 75 charting hit
'Faking It' probably the best option for this, our only other options are 'Checklist', 'Slow Acid' and 'Cuba'. 'Checklist' we could perhaps do if we want to use 'Faking It' for Worst Single.

A ballad album track
'Ecstasy' is basically his only one isn't it?

I assume the other AF mods are going to send strong choices, so I don't think we should send any of the ones that could have a chance to go to the next round instead of strongest picks we could use for later rounds in the first round. That said, I agree that "Promises" is a good pick to begin, so we could go with the following in the first three rounds:

Round 1: "Promises"
Round 2: "Bounce" / "Under Control"
Round 3: "Slide"

I’d be happy with that. as for round 2 I think Under Control is better rated here than Bounce, it just came to my mind that we sent Bounce in an early round last time and we almost got eliminated with it.

if we get to round 4 do we wanna go with One Kiss provided Dua don’t get in there this round? that one is a free for all between the two due to the joint lead credit. so we can’t wait too long if we wanna use it (and I know you mod both so maybe you could convince the other Dua mods to avoid it )

I was wondering which song between "Bounce" and "Under Control" could be a better choice, but based on what you said, I guess we should go with the latter. Regarding "One Kiss", I'm fine to use it in the Calvin Harris forum and I think it's fair considering that Joe and I stole it in the first edition of AF Idol for the Dua Lipa forum.

As a side note, I'm planning to create a discussion thread to see what posters think about possible picks in different rounds. I already did that for the Dua Lipa forum, so I think we should go with this too here, although I'm not expecting a lot of discussion, but I wanted to be proven wrong. That said, I think we have the following so far.

Round 1: "Promises"
Round 2: "Under Control"
Round 3: "Slide"
Round 4: "One Kiss"
Round 5: "Merrymaking At My Place" / "Faking It"
Round 6: "Faking It" / "Checklist"

I don't think we're saving "Acceptable In The 80s" for later rounds, unless we're planning to use it for a free round as you said, Lewis. As a consequence, we probably could consider it instead of "Under Control" in this round. The ones that we're saving from these options are "I'm Not Alone" (later rounds) and "Slide" (next round).

We're not a Group AF so the only rule we have to follow is:

> For artist forums that are dedicated to one artist: The single MUST have finished bottom 3 in the artists rate (if there's an ultimate rate - skip past the non-singles) and if you're lucky enough to have a bottom 3 over the average of 5, then kudos - that's fair play.

I'm wondering if we can ask Joseph to discount Off The Record and Hype too as Calvin wasn't the primary artist on either (the rules aren't clear on this, so maybe we'll just have to count those), then if Open Wide doesn't count either then our bottom 3 are:

39 5.90 My Way
40 5.41 Merrymaking At My Place
41 5.37 Nuh Ready Nuh Ready (feat. PARTYNEXTDOOR)

and we could then send My Way?

it's just a bit unfair if we have to choose from Off The Record, Hype and Nuh Ready really as all three are certainly gonna finish dead last. (though of course, there's a big chance of My Way doing the same too...)

Promises
I Found You
Checklist
Giant
Hypnagogic

maybe the CamelPhat version of I'm Not Alone too? tempted to say no to that though.

as for the Love Regenerator singles, no point including most of them, but Hypnagogic did get R1 playlisted so we could count that.

Either way, I'm fine with "Open Wide" unless there's a veto if it's submitted because it was a US single, not a UK single. In case we can't go with that, I guess "Hype" is our only option. "Nuh Ready Nuh Ready" is a no for me and the same applies, in a lesser extent, to "Off The Record".

It seems that "Hype" might be chosen. There was some discussion that "Homesick" couldn't be picked as an option in the Dua Lipa forum because it was released as a single in selected European countries, so I assume the same is going to be applied to "Open Wide".

3. Free choice (must not have been sent to a main AF Idol contest before)
4. Ballad (singles or album tracks)

6. Free choice (must not have been sent to a main AF Idol contest before)
7. Album track (must not have been sent to a main AF Idol contest before)

10. For the Win: Free Choice (Those artists who have reached the final before must send a different song)

Ballad is being defined as anything that is 99 BPM or less, so a couple of his Funk Wav tracks could be sent:
Cash Out - 95 BPM
Rollin - 92 BPM
Prayers Up - 86 BPM
then of course there is Ecstasy from Motion with is 66 BPM, not that any of those are going to do well at all

at least there's not another 'single that did badly in your rate' round haha

Thanks Lewis for beginning the discussion of AF Idol. I split the threads for consistency, so we could keep the 2.0 version on its own, so I hope you don't mind it. Anyway, "Sweet Nothing", "Promises" and "We'll Be Coming Back" have been thrown so far. As I mentioned in the thread, I don't think we should go with the latter, but the others are good choices.

We have three rounds of free choices (two before eliminations) where we could pick anything, so I think we should go big. "I'm Not Alone", "We Found Love", "Pray To God" and "How Deep Is Your Love" are also another possibilities, besides the already mentioned, in my opinion.

We used Promises for Round 1 of AF Idol 2, it finished in the top 10 but I feel that with the new format it wouldn't do so well this time around. Would also be a tad boring to use the same song for Round 1 twice.
I think we should go for one of his bigger hitters, perhaps We Found Love or One Kiss given we're in competition with the collaborators to get to the songs first. Or if we do want to save those for later, I'm Not Alone or HDIYL would work.
Sweet Nothing was the song we lost with in AF Idol 1, in round 7. So not too sure on that, although it did have very strong competition then.

I’m thinking one of the following Motion ones has the best chance of cross appeal with pop fans

Faith - surely the single that got away from this era, sounds like it would’ve been a hit single
Together ft Gwen Stefani - similar to Faith but perhaps preferable cos female vocalist?
Dollar Signs ft Tinashe - there’s a couple of Tinashe fans on the site although the drop might be off putting for some

Based on the latest album rate, "Faith" performed the best (#5), followed by "Together" (#6) and "Dollar Signs" (#14). I agree that Tinashe fans could jump on the latter, but the track itself is polarizing, so I don't think it's a good option. As a consequence, it's either "Faith" or "Together" in my opinion.

Personally, "Faith" is one of my favourites from Motion and I could go with that, but I don't have any issue if "Together" is chosen instead because the female vocalist factor might be a plus. Also, Gwen Stefani is likeable and she could give us some votes.

If it's considered that we can't send songs that were previously submitted in the next round, I'm wondering if "Acceptable In The 80s" or "Feel So Close" could be chosen. Those two, as well as "Slide", were inside the Top 10 in the latest singles rate.

I'm thinking perhaps we should try TIWYCF, it might go down better with those who didn't vote in the Calvin Harris rate, Feel So Close/80s I don't see picking up as many of those votes, and given the poor performance of Faith going with a female vocalist collab might be a safer bet now.

We could try to send "Feels" or "Slide" in this round. They are funk/chillwave songs and I think they are part of the midtempo spectrum. If any of them don't work, may we try with "Together"? I'm a aware this is a longshot though.

As a side note, we should go with "We Found Love" in the next round.

Acoustic versions of any of his songs could have gone either way as well. Besides "By Your Side", there's one of "The Girls" and live sessions of that track, "Acceptable In The 80s" and "Colours", so we didn't have many options to choose too.

Anyway, glad to know that "We Found Love" was chosen in this round, so let's see how it does.
