A thread to discuss everything about 2003's Body Language.
1. Slow
2. Still Standing
3. Secret (Take You Home)
4. Promises
5. Sweet Music
6. Red Blooded Woman
7. Chocolate
8. Obsession
9. I Feel For You
10. Someday
11. Loving Days
12. After Dark
Worst Kylie album, love slow though, the other 2 singles are ok I suppose but loving days should have been a single
It falls very short among Kylie's albums, but offers some highlights.
Sweet Music I have as of late started to appreciate alongside the singles.
Slow is the highlight from the entire era.
I loved the visuals but hated the vocals on the whole album
I remember when I bought the Slow single and Sweet Music was on it, I thought this album must be great, but those two songs remain my favorites from it.
I still wonder why there was only one song written by Cathy Dennis on it. I like After Dark, but it's good it wasn't a single, because it's weaker than CGYOOMH and CIMW.
After the monster success Cathy Dennis brought to the Fever era they may have felt compelled to include at least one piece of her work on the follow up.
You were far to generous on this album than I would have been, other than Slow, Loving Days and maybe Red Blooded Woman, this album is a total skip for me.
It’s not a terrible album it’s just a terrible follow up to such an iconic era.
No I genuinely think it’s a terrible album 😂 other than Slow I don’t listen to any of it
I was surprised at just how bad it was when I listened to the album tracks for the rate in the 00s thread. I liked all of the styling when it was released but the songs really are forgettable and lacking in strong melodies.
It's a very plod along albums that doesn't change much from.staer to finish
It fails to offer standout tracks when listening in its entirety.
Slow has a unique quality when reviewing Kylie's singles but Body Language needed tracks that "popped" and made you feel you wanted to rush out on the dancefloor and it fails to achieve it.
I really appreciate what she tried to do with this - mature, sensual pop with seductive production.. but it just isn't totally pulled off the way its intended and one part of that is that it feels quite disingenuous. Like Kylie trying to be something she is not. I get and fully embrace artists evolving (all my favourite artists do it), but they have to maintain a sense of themselves while doing it and this doesn't in my opinion.
The album is a decent listen and there are some strong moments throughout, but I am not in a major rush to return to it all too often!
Body Language does have the sound of Kylie trying to hard.
The album needed more pop electro songs to make it more appealing.
The change in direction was to radical after working so hard to win fans back with Light Years and Fever.
Ya the album was too much of a change, she needed something else before an album like body language to ease into that sound. Giving you up sound would have done that.
I'm surprised people don't like this album. It's my favourite of Kylie's. Tracks, B-Sides, videos, performances, visuals, it was all great!
It has its moment although few but down as the bottom end for me.the launch concert on ITV was great though.
Body Language was a courageous move after the roaring success of Fever.
That said, it shows Kylie, when she moves away from pop she loses fans.
Each time Kylie moves slightly away from pop the follow up leads her back to it with improvements.
After Body Language came 2 great singles, I Believe In You and Giving You Up.
Kiss Me Once was another slight move away from pop and back she came with the wonderful Golden.
The same could be said for Light Years following in the footsteps of Impossible Princess.
Ya when kylie sticks to pop the audience react better. It's a shame she went so far away in sound from fever with body language as if she hadn't I really think she would have had a far bigger selling album. She def didnt take full advantage of the bug success by following it up with something similar. If I believe in you was the lead single on the fever follow up things would have been different.
I would have preferred something similar to Fever as it was a style I enjoyed and the market enjoyed what Kylie was offering.
Body Language R n B lavour falls flat and the songs in large lack clear identity.
There was braveness in the move by Kylie but it was a disappointing move.
It was brave but I'd have preferred something safer.
I appreciate and respect the fact she didn't just spit out a carbon copy of Fever though, even though it would have been the easy and predictable thing to do.
I do still have very special memories attached to the album and I probably wouldn't change anything (except 'Secret' being a single, I'll never get over that). I'd also say the album is largely electro-pop than R&B.
The album feels more dubstep R&B in many parts than pop.
Most of the tracks are not dancefloor fillers and lack the feel good intensity that many Kylie tracks usually offer.
Body Language lacks a killer track that propels it to the stardom Fever enjoys. Slow provided a fantastic beginning but nowhere near as good as Head. Red Blooded Woman has an awesome video.
Forum listening party for BL next Friday at 7.30pm http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=233774
So I've given this album another go (for the rate mainly, but also to see if it grew) and I think it's even more tedious than before. Some of the album tracks are painfully forgettable :'( Nothing is sticking with me. I will keep because I am sure there is goodness somewhere within it, but this is not what I want from Kylie. I'm sorry Liam !!! 'Loving Days' stands out as the strongest album track, possibly?
I'm hoping the next listening party will help me out with this album, I will be listening to this a few times in its entirety and something outside slow and chocolate may click with me.
I had no idea what to expect when I played this. I hadn’t even heard Slow before I did a bit of reading up on the general reception to the album which I know you shouldn’t really before you listen as it could make you biased for or against but I was just really curious. And I adore the album so much
I get the criticisms that it’s not really Kylie and she’s trying to be something she’s not, but sultry lyrics and rhythms have always been part of Kylie’s repertoire, not in the way of this album but it’s an electro-pop record, again not a world away from her ‘usual’ material (from 2000 onwards, I haven’t started 80s and 90s Kylie albums yet x). The production on this album is so goooood Really pulsating and silky, ik that sounds cringe but it’s true :’) There’s a lot to unpack with every song. The production doesn’t overpower her voice either, other than a few moments they blend perfectly. Her voice actually sounds better than on any of the albums I’ve heard so far, I love especially on this album when the production is mixed with her higher register.
It’s not without fault, that one-two punch of I Feel 4 U and Someday as the worst tracks on the record (the former mostly, an irritation) was choices! But they’re not even bad and there’s a heap of highlights. Slow, Secret, Promises, Sweet Music, Chocolate and After Dark were my faves. It was different, but for me she pulled it off.
Ranking of the albums I’ve listened to:
1. Fever
2. Aphrodite
3. Body Language
4. Disco
5. Light Years
6. Golden
7. Kiss Me Once
Not much between 3-5 to be fair! Golden is also a very strong album
I loved reading your reaction, Andrew! I'm actually delighted that you love BL. It's one of the "dark horse"s in Kylie's discography and divides fans' opinions.
This came out after Fever, after Kylie was on top of the world with her sleek, robotic, somewhat minimal dance-pop sound. Nobody expected the followup to sound like Body Language! That's one of the reasons it divided fans. I was thrown off too, but grew to love the album. I love the mix of electro, 80s synthpop, and R&B/hip-hop. I find it a bit less catchy than Fever, but more sophisticated and definitely more rhythmic.
I don't love everything about BL. After Obsession, the final stretch of the album feels very patchy to me. But I do love the bonus tracks and B-sides! Off the top of my head, I remember Cruise Control, Soul on Fire, City Games, Almost a Lover, and the incredible Slo Motion
It's very interesting that you enjoy her vocals the most on this, versus the other Parlophone and BMG albums. She is SUPER breathy on this album. I get the feeling her whispery, "helium" vocals are another reason why BL is divisive in the fanbase. Even a BL lover like me would prefer less breathy, "chipmunky" vocals on many of the songs
The 3 videos from this album are also some of Kylie's best videos, IMO.
Overall, I love BL. Now with DISCO in the mix, though, I'm unsure if BL stays in my Top 3 or Top 5 of Kylie's albums
As much as I dont really love the album it was a brave move by kylie and it highlights kylie doesnt always play safe and it equally highlights many of her fans simoly prefer more upbeat pop kylie which kylie thankfully always returns to.
I think across kylies 15 studio albums she shows diversity as her albums have a wide variety of sounds. Right now she seems to be on a roll delivering what her fans really want and enjoy and I'm enjoying kylie as much as I ever did.
1. Secret (Take You Home)
2. Slow
3. Loving Days
4. Chocolate
5. Sweet Music
6. After Dark
7. Still Standing
8. Red Blooded Woman
9. Promises
10. Obsession
11. I Feel For You
12. Someday
Those last two are definitely the worst songs by far, everything else has its place.
Currently listening to Body Language for the first time properly, has she performed 'Loving Days' somewhere before? It sounds very familiar.
Body language I went back to for the listening party here in the forum and apart from a couple of songs the rest i cant be bothered with.
Yes it very much blends into one in most places and it makes it a hard listen.
I feel Body Language did more damage than good to Kylies career.
It killed the huge momentum of light years and fever but ultimate kylie came at the right time to turn things around.
It did eat away sales.
Body Language was aimed to capitalize on the American success of Can't Get You Out of my Head and it failed.
It's not the first or the last Kylie album to disappoint commercially while delivering lots of great songs
Commercial letdowns like the BL and KMO eras didn't really affect my love for those songs, because I'm a Canadian fan Any sort of chart or sales success is just a bonus rather than expectation, from my perspective as a diehard fan of Kylie's, a niche artist without decades of national love on these shores.
Yes the perspective is different when you look at it from a country where Kylie is a niche artist.
The decline was more in view to the markets Kylie performs in strongly.
It wasn't a total disaster though, and nobody can keep up that level of momentum forever.
She could have easily spat out a copy of Fever but I respect her a whole lot more for not doing so and taking a bit of a risk.
I welcome the risk but the dramatic change was too much too quick.
I was not keen on this album on the couple of times that I listened to it previously, but I have returned to it today with fresh ears...
1. Red Blooded Woman
2. Slow
3. Loving Days
4. Promises
5. Chocolate
6. Secret (Take You Home)
7. Obsession
8. Still Standing
9. Sweet Music
10. After Dark
11. Someday
12. I Feel For You
...and nothing has changed 'Red Blooded Woman' is incredible and one of my favourite Kylie singles, and 'Slow' is a good listen too but there is very little else. I found it very hard to rank the rest because nothing really stood out as an individual track that I could properly distinguish from the rest (and this is my 3rd listen through from start to end ). I think I need to accept that the album isn't for me and you can't win them all Some real highs but the rest is obscure, ambigious, lows.
Album ranking
01. Fever
02. Kylie Minogue
03. Rhythm of Love
04. Light Years
05. Impossible Princess
06. Kylie
07. Enjoy Yourself
08. Let's Get To It
09. Body Language
Body Language was creative but boring through most of the album.
Agree with your review, it’s such a bore fest of an album - I’ve revisited it so many times and it all just seems to roll into one tbh, it was such a let down at the time after the iconic Fever era.
It is a borefest, like others i have tried this album so many times and overall it feels like one very long song that at times feels like it will never end, such a let down after fever and light years.
I can easily distinguish between each track, although I don't know if that's because I have an attachment to the songs having been a fixture of my life since I was 16 (well, except for the two absolute CLUNKERS which Haus highlighted in his ranking)
Will give it another listen from start to end as it’s been a while. Never considered it a borefest haha but I can see why people would think that.
I think BL has some pretty decent moments. 'Promises' is one of my most-played album tracks. But probably the most Fever-esque track on the album.
Just listened to it twice through whilst on a rampant cleaning mission...it’s slick and well produced. I think they went for sexy production over catchy melodies.
The three singles plus Still Standing are the standouts, and I have a soft spot for Sweet Music, immediately takes me back to November 2003.
The limited hooks and lack of upbeat songs make the album mundane.
The singles save the album from been Kylies least enjoyable album.
I fear Kylie's next album could be experimental which is something I don't want from her as albums like Body Language and Kiss Me Once undo the goodwill built up from the great albums before them.
I wouldn't exactly call KMO experimental. Something like Impossible Princess I definitely would though.
But I think she's got a team around her who really know what they're doing now, so I'm not at all worried about whatever direction she goes in.
Kiss Me Once was a huge nest of sounds that delivered very little and delivered half heartidly by Kylie.
Kiss me Once lacked depth and substance and Kylie not fully supporting the project took away even more from the era.
With Body Language it came one album too early. For success purposes Kylie needed to follow Fever with something similar to take advantage of her market gain and then followed with Body Language.
The decline from Fever to Body Language was a huge disappointment that could have been avoided to a lesser extent. The follow up to Fever should have easily achieved double platinum status before it's fade out from the market.
Shoulda woulda coulda
Id be happier to see kylie stick to her upbeat material, for me kylie has been on fire with both golden and disco and i hope that continues, the only blip for me was the awful new york city single which i hate. I was initially worried that disco might be a disappointment after golden which was a very solid album but disco blew that worry out the door. Body language was a real disappointment after fever, but i think it was a disappointing album in general no matter what it followed as im not really into that type of music in general. Kiss me once just goes over my head, i didnt really connect much with it. Sometimes albums that are disappointing lead to greater things which has generally happened with kylie, with the albums i was disappointed with the follow up more than made up for it.
Ahh Body Language, i love this album, from star to finish
<3
I know it's an unpopular opinion, but for me Body Language is better than Fever... :X
That's a really interesting opinion as with the music styles on both so so different I've always assumed that a small fraction of fans enjoyed this style from Kylie but a larger amount like myself much preferred Fever.
Body Language: The Disco Edition.
That could potentially improve the standard of the album.
Could be good, I'd like to hear the songs if they were remixed in a fast version.
The original slow remains the best but slow has more character than all the other songs on the album. I'd like to hear more new mixes of some of the other tracks to see how they would sound.
Slow Infinite Version made me believe all Body Language should receive the same treatment.
Chocolate is one of the few songs from that time i can say i genuinely like, but it took until i saw it on tour before i liked it, glad this went top 10 for her.
I remember vividly buying both CDs of it on release week, and being unsure whether it would actually make the top 10 for her. I remember being pleasantly surprised when it showed up in the midweeks at #4. 18 years since the Body Language era concluded!
It used to be such a big fave of mine, I still like it but not quite as much as I used to. The vocals on it kinda irritate me these days.
Amazing video.
Ya I was worried it would miss the top 10 aswell and break the run of top 10 singles she was having at that time but was happy it safely got there,
I hated the BL era and singles (I remember being shocked that ‘Slow’ made it to #1).
I of course duly bought all the CD singles etc., but the whole project was a let down for me - I have to say I now love the singles, lathe album is another story of course
It's a shame 'Chocolate' has become one of Kylie's forgotten singles. I love the hypnotic vibe of the song, the soothing groove, the flourishes of synths throughout. The video is also a forgotten beauty, very artistic! She did two Top of the Pops performances too that included chorography from the video - must be the most detailed chorography she's done?
Oh my god, I want to dance like her
I love how she sang "AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Johnny Douglas, who produced the original song, has done a remake of 'Body Language' outtake 'On the Up'.
It wouldn't be anything that would excite me in the way Ip vinyl does, body language is more a chore support rather than a love support if that makes sense.
Happy 19th birthday to 'Body Language'! Say what you want about the album, the photoshoots from this era are 10/10.
The photoshots are good but the album itself remains a disappointment. A really disappointing follow up to 2 of her very best albums.
Body Language, the gamble that never truly paid off commercially.
I mean, we can debate that over and over again until the cows come home.
Well she did say in her new album, she would take the style of "Slow" which was originally intended for Body Language so we will see if it pays off for her this time.
Judging CIMW was released in November, then she took a well-deserved break, I'd say Body Language was recorded in a rush.
They are coming for our coin this year!
https://ibb.co/QYMqRzM
Ooooh I’ll definitely get this over Kylie 88.
Oh I wonder how they found that out? Hype!!
It'll feel so weird when Body Language's 20th anniversary gets here, as I jumped on board (pun semi-intended) halfway through the Fever era it was the first campaign I followed from the very beginning as a fan, and I remember it all so vividly.
Kylie looked incredible during the Body Language era, maybe the best she ever looked. I remember being so confused, she looked younger in 2004 than she did in 2000.
^^ Agree, she looked iconic and the styling and marketing was spot on, just a shame the album isn’t very good
Excited for a vinyl release though!
I wonder what colours we could expect for Body Language vinyl? Maybe just white? Only half black half white, that would be interesting.
Really not here for this as an album but I'll still be a sucker and get the vinyl
He’s been spot on with Kylie links so far. He was a bit slow on Tension dropping (no pun intended) but generally speaking…
Ooh, was not expecting this when they announced the debut album release on vinyl, feels a lot to ask of fans to buy both albums as well as Tension a couple of months prior.
Yes huge amount of releases coming that will leave a big hole in the pockets of the fans, its great they are all getting released but its a shame they are all so close to each other. I dont have much heed on the body language release but will buy a vinyl for the collection but its not an album i listen to. I would be much more excited for Kylie her debut as i genuinely enjoy the album alot.
Some of the photo shoots are good but overall I never felt it was kylies best image or anywhere close.
Erm the Body Language era was AMAZING for looks!
Agreed, she also looked STUNNING in all 3 videos! 🔥
Perfect Christmas Presents to be honest though.
How many people get Lynx Africa box set for £4.99 and a 5 pair of socks for £6.99 and a box of Roses for £5.
Get people what they actually want and pre-order a Kylie vinyl, wrap it up and make them very happy.
Lots of November releases. Maybe to fit in with the thing that is coming end of November, not in Las Vegas......
The music videos were ace during this era
Alexis Strum's unreleased album 'Addicted' with Warner from 2002 has been uploaded to streaming platforms, which features the original 'Still Standing' (also on the album is 'Nothing Good About This Goodbye' which was later recorded by Rachel Stevens):
I really hope they put the Body Language tees on her store, I need the white one.
I reckon we'll get a silver vinyl for this and a black and white marble?
A black and white marble would be fitting for body language.
I'm delighted to see another kylie album get the vinyl treatment but this is definitely a purchase for collection purposes for me as its not an album I listen to apart from slow and chocolate.
I wonder if Kylie has approved this release? With BL items appearing in the pop up shop I’m hoping that she’s signed off this re-issue as she seemed to ignore others that Parlophone have done.
Having Body Language part of the pop up shop would suggest Kylie has approved it.
'Colour My Life' has leaked in full:
Colour my life doesnt do much for me at all.
^^ agree, nice to have these outtakes but generally I never think they are missed opportunities etc
Looks like Body Language vinyl is indeed coming

Yeeeessss
A red vinyl (inspired by Red Blooded Woman) and it’s released on 23rd February 2024 (my birthday!)
Not paying. 33 quid for a single vinyl Townsend.....
Will wait for Amazon lol
https://townsendmusic.store/product/125712
Going to be £40 with p&p
Nope
https://ibb.co/3zZNB5M
Should get a decent chart position in the February Albums Market.

I’ve done the refer a friend 20% off offer with HMV so £27.99 - I can’t see Amazon being lower than that.
Ordered from Amazon. I'm thrilled it's coming of course, but that colour is not Body Language in any way. Cappuccino coloured marble is what I would've loved.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Language-Limited-Anniversary-Blooded-Vinyl/dp/B0CN9LHYDD/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?keywords=kylie+body+language&qid=1700134027&sr=8-7
Now live on Amazon 32.99
The online reaction to the colour is…. odd?
Everyone seems up in arms about it yet they’ve referenced the song to the colour, I mean yea they could’ve done a white version but it’s not like they’ve gone for neon green or something and have at least linked the colour the album.
I must admit I was a little confused when I saw the red vinyl, only because I was expecting a black and white marble vinyl and it hadn't clicked that the colour was referencing 'Red Blooded Woman'. Seems obvious now!
Happy we've got this and a good idea to wait until February to release, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the US release, given there's her debut album re-released this month and 'Extension' released in December. Curious as to how this will do chart-wise, it's not one of Kylie's most loved released yet this is its first ever vinyl release. I'd be happy if this could return to the Top 40.
I totally thought it'd be an Othello vinyl if anything!
Ordered from Amazon! I hope over the next few months the price randomly goes down a bit, that sometimes happens. Although having said that, Kylie 35th Anniversary vinyl on Amazon increased from £24.99 to £27.99 during the preorder
Seeing as it's releasing in mid feb, i wonder if it has a chance of top 10 again.
I think with it only being available on one variant and also it not being her most revered album, I can see it clocking up like 2k ish which would probably put it somewhere outside the top 40.
#1 on Amazon's Best Sellers! Showing as 400+ copies sold so far.
Omg, already doubling its total sales. Get in!
I think she might manage low top 40 at best with this, I don't think it has the same excitement among fans as other releases.
Already 800+ bought on Amazon since yesterday!
EDIT: 900+ bought!
current best seller in their music chart.
looks like a Standard black vinyl coming too.......
https://www.sanity.com.au/products/2963236/Body-Language-20th-Anniversary
Can we dream of a number 1 album?
Number 14 on HMV Best selling current pre-orders. The Tension Extended is 12th
Standard black is only available in Australia atm - hopefully it’ll pop up here soon.
Surprised they are going for multiple variants as they didn’t bother with Light Years, Kylie Christmas etc., - maybe they were spurred on by the success of IP?
Were multi-formats much of a thing when they did the Light Years re-issue?
Also wasn't the 'Light Years' vinyl one of those Sainsbury exclusives?
The multi variants will help a but and probably secure it going top 40.
1000+ now sold on Amazon
The black version has appeared on iMusic - a Danish company that ships to the UK, I’ll wait for it to appear on a UK site I think to be sure sales will be counted towards the UK charts.
Ordered from Amazon I love BL ❤️❤️😂
Golden discs are also stocking the vinyl which is great for me, while I'm buying it I'm not excited for this release as I don't enjoy the album that much so her debut so what I'm more excited for.
I see Body Language is only 24.98 dollars on USA Amazon
So everyone that pre-ordered the black vinyl version has received an email to say it was listed in error and will be available after the initial limited edition red version has sold out - odd to not have them available at the same time but I guess it means they might be planning to keep it in print for a while on black vinyl?
That will also mean some split sales which will probably result in a lower chart position.
The vinyl has been pushed back to 8th March
Yeah I’ve just had an email saying mine would be delivered on 12th March.
Hopefully that means that the red and black versions will be dispatched at the same time and count in the same chart week.
I guess it’s too early to know what’s out March 8th.
Hopefully it can still get a new peak though.
I cant see it coming anywhere near its original peak let alone a new peak.
Fair enough. I’m guessing this is an album that’d be at the lower end of a lot of Kylie’s fans albums ranks?
Yes i think overall it generally ranks in the lower end among fans, not a fave of my own either.
Ah thanks. I’ve still got a few albums before it until I reach it in my album listen throughs. I’m curious to see what I’ll think of it.
I’m trying to steer clear of reading people’s thoughts on it in detail.
Not that it matters too much in the grand scheme of things as we’re not chasing a chart placing with this album but some fans are posting pictures of already having received the album, seems like the change of release date has caused some confusion - mess
Hopefully its only a small few that have shipped early, as you said we are not chasing a chart position with this release but it would be nice for it to chart as high as it can without mess ups.
Aside from the added bonus of it giving her extra weeks on the chart I genuinely don't care where it ends up tbh
From all the different re releases Body Language is the one im the least invested in so far, id love to see it back in the top 40 but as others said if it doesnt happen it wont bother me that much.
I never pre ordered so am going to wait for a reduction. I don’t mind paying more for limited edition vinyl, though I think it should always be heavyweight vinyl if they’re going to ask for over £30.
Apparently BL is gatefold, with a black sleeve and an insert. So I’ll definitely pick up a copy at some point, unless it sells out soon of course.
From what I saw on the SayHey FB group it seemed to be only customers in Canada who ordered from Amazon receiving it early, so shouldn't affect anything in the UK?
^^ Actually feels like some effort has been put into it which is surprising for a Parlophone re-issue.
The new vinyl is almost upon is.
I think a Top 40 placement is on the horizon.
Ya I'm getting low top 40 vibes somewhere between 34 and 37.
I was talking to a friend (casual Kylie fan) and he asked me a question that I'm not sure I know the answer to. Has Kylie herself ever addressed the underperformance of Body Language given all the hype and expectations?
Not to my knowledge she hasnt, its strange as it was a fairly successful album it's just it underperformed on the back of the huge success of Fever and I think most of agree it was just the wrong direction after what we got with light years and fever it just wasn't what people expected or wanted.
Body language is a great album, I just think it was probably the wrong album to release straight after Fever. Body language was a very successfull album but probably just underperformed due to how much of a bug album Fever was huns. Let's face it, not many albums could live up to Fever!
Also huns BL only had 3 singles, so it was a shorter campaign than most albums, they had the material to release a 4th single huns in my opinion. Still standing or secret, for example!
Also BL never had its own tour (show girl huns followed not long after) which would have bumped up sales, so no 4th single or a tour did hurt its long term sales. And don't forget Ultimate Kylie came out very quickly after Body Language, so there wasn't even any time for the BL album to breathe, so I think the album would have sold a little bit extra if Ult K didn't come out so quickly afterwards, if BL had its own tour and it had a 4th single huns.
Just my thoughts huns
Just Carol Honey ♥️
Yes after BL underperformed and they’d released Chocolate they definitely decided to capitalise on her fame and bring out Ultimate Kylie instead. IBIY and GYU were much more like the Fever singles too. Much better financial return than releasing a 4th single off BL or releasing an extended version.
Of course, UK was viable because the Decon albums could be included. I bet Kylie/ Parlo wasn’t happy when the 1992 GH was re released with bonus mixes etc in 2002. Hence why she refused to let them use an image. They probably would have been planning UK being released at the end of 2005.
Though as we now know, the cancer diagnosis would have stopped that from happening.
I think Kylie is very aware of the love that is out there for IP among the fanbase which is why she touches on the album every so often, its also the album she needed to make to get to the stage that followed. With Body Language and Kiss me Once she does seem to have distanced herself from the albums and of of course lets get to it is another but at least with body language slow does get love from her representing the BL era where with LGTI and KMO she really doesnt revisit them at all.
The vinyl is finally released tomorrow - give BL some love with an extra stream or two.
Yes i remember that video and i was like yes Kylie has definitely moved on from that album, which is a shame really as although it is my least fave pwl album it does have some good tracks on it.
Amazon has not been my friend recently, no dispatch for Body Language yet
Any last minute predictions of where this will end up?
Amazon seem to have oversold and are now saying delivery in 5-8 days, HMV currently have just over 100 in stock online so it appears to have sold decently.
I still think it’s looking at around 35-40, although the reaction to people posting images of their copies and the fact it’s a gatefold etc., I think will have encouraged some last minute sales from those that were on the fence about getting a copy.
I think maybe higher?
Is in shops to buy? Anyone seen in HMV?
Will it get many streams ?
#32!
But it's anyone's guess really
I think it could get a few HMV sales
Maybe 3k pre-orders, 5 downloads, 750 sales in shops and 20 streaming sales? 3775? lol
Lets hope more!
i mean it must have sold quite well on her Store, Amazon and HMV.
They just sent an email out!
Store email will help snatch a few more sales

I wish it was different but i feel zero excitement for this release at all
Well I’m excited, it’s another addition to her album catalogue on vinyl, which fans have wanted for years. The pressing looks stunning too!
I love seeing the availability of Kylies catalogue on vinyl increasing and am all for it it's just with this one I wish I liked the music more but I'm happy to have the vinyl in my collection.
I painfully gave the entire album a stream to help with my vinyl purchase this week - I keep think one day I’ll appreciate the album more but it hasn’t happened yet
That beating said the re-issue is a beauty and actually feels as if some effort has been put into it versus other Parlophone re-issues.
Always a hard album to listen to in its entirety and as stunning as the vinyl version is I won't worry about it getting damaged due to overplay.
Y’all really said “Body Language? More like Shoddy Languish”
Giving you up,white diamond and I believe you had the foundations of an excellent follow up to fever if she had taken that route as the follow up to fever and I really feel it could have another huge era if it had gone that way but there is no rewriting history plus kylie can be given credit for not playing it safe (even though I wish she did).
While body language is a weak album it did give us kylies last number 1 single so il give it credit for that.
Received my vinyl and it immediately starts skipping! Apparently this has been an issue for a few people.
Not what Kylie meant when she sings "skip a beat and move with my body".
No but maybe its the labels way of saying we know most of you are skipping a good bit of this album so we will help you along
#11 on Monday's middies. So top 40 guaranteed? Still can't believe it debuted only at 6 given the money cant buy concert and all the Fever success. Understand the sound was underwhelming, blah blah but I would've thought the fanbase alone would've at least sent it top 3.
Sales were so high back then though and i cant remember of the top of my head but it was a competitive week at the time.
I was expecting Top 5 for Body Language today leaving that Number 11 position disappointing.
Re-enters at #34!
Oh wow hun, number 34 is good for such a price tag on one of Kylies least liked albums by the fans. Plus it has 1 format as well. I was expecting it to possibly miss out on the top 40 if I am honest.
Also, no new content either huns.
Just Carol Honey ♥️
It done really well to be as high as 34, I was convinced it wouldn't be top 50 today.
Lovely to see it return to the top 40 👏🏻
Meanwhile, I've gone to play my copy today and it would appear I've wound up with a massively faulty one, and I'm not the only one. I've seen so many people on X and Popjustice in the last week saying the same thing and having the same problem I am.
It's less "Skip a beat and move with my body" and more "Skip all through the bloody song and accumulate a massive quantity of dust on my stylus".
I've cleaned the vinyl about three times now and the same thing is still happening. I'm so disappointed because I've been looking forward to this release for ages. I never had this problem with the Fever or Impossible Princess reissues!
Yeah it seems this has been a big problem for lots of people. Thankfully mine just took a few cleans to get rid of the skips but I know it’s not been as simple as that for many.
I’ve seen a few people on SH FB mention it skipping too
It really bothers me that vinyl pressing nowadays seems quite sloppy with no QC checks, when they are charging premiums for vinyl they really should be getting it right - also it’s not great for people starting out collecting vinyl and may put them off the format.
It has long been an issue with vinyls which was one of the original reasons for it's decline.
Purchased just before the Amazon deal ended, phew. It jumped up during the deal period from 50 to 200+ monthly sales! So about 150 new sales, they must be happy or they’d have kept the deal going. Better not skip a bloody beat!!!!!
Oh and Kylie Christmas snatched too for less than £9.
(Body Language vinyl arrived it’s gorgeous…seems like heavyweight vinyl too? Wasn’t expecting that at all)
I listened to my copy of the Body Language vinyl, earlier today!
I have a bad habit of buying vinyl and then not actually getting around to playing them (more so older albums, rather than new ones)! However, the discussions about faulty copies made me feel like I ought to listen to it, to make sure that mine was okay. Fortunately my copy has no problems at all which is a relief; I hope others who had skipping copies are able to replace them with ones that play fine.
So, Body Language... I haven't listened to it in full in years. I truly wouldn't be surprised if the last time I played it from start to finish was actually in 2004! I know I listened to it a fair few times in 2003/4 though. Since then, I think it's only been a case of hearing songs in isolation if they came up during an iTunes shuffle.
Looking at the track list today, there were many songs that I couldn't remember how they went purely based on title. So I was curious to find out if I did remember the songs when playing them, and to see how I feel about them now.
I guess those 2003/4 listens dug deep into my brain, because I did remember hooks from most of the tracks after all.
I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by the album. I've noticed a lot of fans aren't keen on it, so reading these assessments probably had an effect on me in feeling like it wasn't an album to bother revisiting, over the years. However there's some good stuff to be found on there though!
I'm not going to say the album is packed full of career highlights, and yes the sound was an unexpected pivot following on from Fever. But putting aside expectations from two decades ago, I think it stands nicely as a perfectly enjoyable and listenable album, and has a unique vibe to it amongst her back catalogue. I mean, it would surely get a bit boring if every album was more of the same.
I think there was only three songs I'd probably not be in a rush to return to. Those being 'I Feel for You' (quirky, but with a grating sound to it), 'Someday' (I felt like this track dragged) and 'After Dark' (decent, but surely in a B Side way, not album closer).
Otherwise I had no real problems with any of the other album tracks, I think they vary from ok to great. 'Loving Days' in particular was a lovely surprise - this was actually one of the few tracks I couldn't recall at all even while listening to it, so I'm glad it's something of a discovery for me and I'll have to pay more attention to it from now on.
Im assuming body language didnt manage to stay top 200 last week??
Very doubtful as it might have sold another 200-300 vinyl but think at least a 1000 sales is required to make the top 200.
Body Language vinyl £22 on Amazon right now!
^^ I know it’s money for old rope, but just hope that Parlophone think it’s been a good investment re-issuing the vinyl, especially as the BL release felt more premium than KC.
Hopefully we get X at some stage - not my favourite album but the artwork would look amazing on vinyl.
Hopefully x will come on vinyl and I do think it will it's just more how long we will have to wait for it.
They don't need to wait for anniversaries as dans just want them although if a tension re release is coming and a new album as reported financially fir fans tge x vinyl ideally would come 6 months after all that.
I think fans in general would be more excited for an x vinyl than body language received.
Rumours back again of the black vinyl. Believe it when I see it!
Agree makes no sense…only would have done if it had been a bundle with the red blooded one.
Fever made sense because of its stature, it’s good they have the black one in general sale now.
^^ Maybe they have been pleased with how ‘Fever’ has been selling and are thinking demand will be there for BL, I think they’ll be disappointed if that’s the case
I buy every variant and have done for years but if a black one is released I’ll literally wait until I can pick it up for £10.
I'd have no interest myself, one vinyl of this album is enough for me.
As i have said a few times before you most work so hard to ensure you have all different formats and not to mention the cost of it.
For years i used to think i had a great Kylie collection and then i read posts from people like yourself and realise mine is very small in comparison.
Dua Lipa referencing Slow (as well as Les Folies/ All the Lovers/ Chocolate) on new video Illusion.
Slow already added 12,000 views, usually 5000 a day. Hopefully the boost continues.
Maybe it can help push 'Slow' further towards silver?
(I have no idea how far it is from reaching it)
Come on Dua help ‘Slow’ snatch that silver - its a travesty that after all these years it still hasn’t managed to cross the line!
Silver is the very least that Slow deserves, it's crazy that it's not achieved it after 20 years. It feels like such a classic in her discography that to be uncertified just seems very odd.
^^ It’s frustrating especially as she still performs it and it always seems well received! Hopefully with the BL reissue and Dua mention it might drag itself towards silver.
It must be close to silver.
Problem is it has never picked up in the same way the Fever singles and Spinning Around have on YouTube and Spotify.
Makes no sense why it hasn’t…yes it’s original sales seemed low but 2003/4/5 were terrible years for physical cd single sales and I don’t even think mp3 was an option in 2003 and the charts certainly didn’t count them until 2005.
Well the last official total we got was 154,000 in July 2019. It must surely be knocking on the door at this point?
^ I really hope so!
154,431 sales, on what I assume was Friday 26th July 2019... if it was on 199,999 sales today, 246 weeks later, that would work out at about 185 sales a week on average. Rather low!
Didn’t realize it was that low in 2019 Sales were really in the pits when it was released and seemingly the streaming era has done hardly anything for it even with a new GH being released
#JusticeForSlow
I remember it didn't even sell 100k in its initial run
To be honest, when "Slow" was released, it divided fans as much as when 2H was released so it might put off some casual fans.
Speaking of "Slow", Dua Lipa released her new video and it's basically a tribute to "Slow" and ATL.
Slow has been given plenty of exposure from kylie over the years but it never really helped sales, hopefully it can make silver.
Incredible that dancing has sold more which only made low top 40 but I know it's a different era in the music industry.
Vinyl down to £28 on Amazon
think i will a little longer for a price drop
^^ Pretty sure with ‘Fever’ it took a year or so to reach the £20 mark (it was on offer recently for £11), BL might start to fall in price more quickly though as I can’t imagine there being any demand for it outside of week 1.
Slow definitely feels like an outlier and in many ways i am surprised by how poor it has sold but maybe its because i class it much bigger in my head due to it been Kylies last number 1 single. I just think with it appearing on a few performances and also the SBIT release its picking up so little sales and it does seem to be a song that is well liked generally speaking.
I always say it ‘After Dark’ feels like a IP track - I LOVE it but agree it doesn’t fit the album especially as a closer.
I would agree about after dark would feel more at home on IP and it definitely didnt work as a closer for the album either. Its also a pitty they didnt have a couple of tracks on the lines of slow on the album, i think the main problem i have with body language is many of the songs lack heir own identity and it all mushes into one when listening to it not that i listen to the album much since its release.
I don’t think it sounds like an Impossible Princess song either. It’s very B-side material and too under baked to have its own identity to a certain album. Especially disappointing knowing it’s a Cathy Dennis co-write.
I'd like to see Cathy and kylie team up again to see what they come up.
Like a few kylie albums songs were left off that were actually better than songs on the album. On the up is one of those songs and while it doesn't fit the album I would have liked more of that sound rather than what we got. A few months back I was revisiting body language and kiss me once to try and give them more of a chance and my overall opinion didn't change in that both are her weakest albums but I think I slightly prefer kiss me once now than body language which I never thought I'd say as I always struggled to like kiss me once.
Body language killed off the massive momentum she had built up to that point which was disappointing and kiss me once was the album I felt we saw kylie struggling to figure out where kylie wanted to be in the market.

I do really like the red vinyl, but standard black suits the overall aesthetic well. I don't think I need to buy another copy though.
I still say they shiuld've done an Othello vinyl like this:
I gave in and bought it despite saying I was going to wait as hardly anywhere seems to be selling it.
Agree that it should have been a black/white coloured disc, the whole 2 variants being released weeks apart is such an odd strategy especially as BL is not a highly sought after album and apparently the black vinyl was ready to go the same time as the red version but they told retailers to wait.
Wonder if it’s gatefold too?
Ahh yes! Thank you.
I think I prefer the blood red vinyl, I’m impressed by its quality but the black looks cool.
The black version is more suited to the artwork theme of the album.
Looks like there’s a CD reissue too! Copyright says 2024:
^^ I managed to grab one in Oxford St after it was mentioned on SH a while back - no idea why Parlophone just quietly re-issued these along with the vinyl but didn’t advertise it at all! They could have easily shifted at least 500+ on a pre-order!
Strange they could have tied this in all together and secured a better chart position.
What demand could there be for a Body Language CD…or any back catalogue CD not just Kylie? Though I suppose if there’s hardly any stock left at all it makes some sense….why just Body Language?
Remember the Parlophone Albums Box Light Years to Aphrodite? That was a good release and I don’t recall paying much for it. 13 years ago they were all but giving up on back catalogue CD.
Of all the albums they could do it for it seems so strange they’ve done it for BL - I mean ‘Fever’ surely would have benefited more from multiple vinyl variants and CD re-issue.
I’m pleased they done a CD issue for BL but it would’ve been nice for them to actually tell people it’s available
Maybe they have surplus stock from years ago they wanna get rid of, and have just packaged them in a new cardboard sleeve to give the impression it's new?
Suppose the print on the CD would tell us?
Re Fever, it has had a few vinyl reissues hasn’t it….wasn’t there also a red, silver and two white vinyl released separately?
Not sure why they ever went with red but guess that’s very rare. Wonder if they’re all gatefold and heavyweight?
The CD is also 2024, so released right tie in with the vinyl issue.
As for Fever not all are gatefold - Black Vinyl (Gatefold Sleeve), White Vinyl (With Print), Silver Vinyl (Gatefold), Red Vinyl, White Vinyl (Sainsbury’s Exclusive / Gatefold).
^ Thank you
Digipak gatefold sleeve CD now in stock at HMV after everyone scrabbled to get one a few weeks ago
