Ireland 2024
Bambie Thug
Doomsday Blue

Entries for the NF Eurosong will be released every day until January 12, with January 10 having 2 releases. Today, Erica Cody released her pick "Love Me Like I Do".

Posted by: Colm 8th January 2024, 11:12 PM

Love Me Like I Do is ok-ish.

Posted by: Iz 🧊 12th January 2024, 01:13 PM

holy shit Ireland this is INCREDIBLE

dare I hope that Eurosong actually picks this? I'm almost positive this would be on lock for a top 10 if it is.

Posted by: gooddelta 12th January 2024, 01:21 PM

Wow, a song relevant to today's music scene competing for Ireland!

Is there anything dated and dull that is more likely to appeal to the Late Late Show viewers?

Possibly it's the only one song from this NF , which I can listen from start to finish.

Isabella Kearney - Let Me Be The Fire

My ratings so far:

Love Me Like I Do (7.5+/10)
Doomsday Blue (7.5+/10)
Go Tobann (7/10)

'Go Tobann' would also very easily be acceptable as far better than anything Ireland normally sends - what a turnaround to have not one but two songs from them I'd love to see on the Eurovision stage

if they send the L*uis W*lsh boyband after this I stg

Posted by: darrens94 12th January 2024, 05:11 PM

Guaranteed Louis Walsh’s boyband will end up being picked.

I hope not as its by far the weakest song and will be a guarantee flop if picked.

Posted by: Liаm 16th January 2024, 10:45 AM

Go Tobann is brilliant but I can’t imagine Ireland actually picking that over a bland boyband at all sadly.

Posted by: Colm 16th January 2024, 01:11 PM

I don't know why RTE think that the Late Late audience would have any idea what works for Eurovision.

It will be the boy band or Erica Cody that will be chosen.

Posted by: gooddelta 17th January 2024, 01:01 PM

I really prefer Doomsday Blue to Go Tobann myself, that would be such a strong and unexpected entry for Ireland and would be great to see the staging at Eurovision.

Slightly dreading the Late Late Show staging for all of these though.

Posted by: uhsting 17th January 2024, 01:12 PM

My ratings:

1. Doomsday Blue (8/10)
2. Love Me Like I Do (7.5/10)
3. Go Tobann (7/10)
4. Judas (6/10)
5. Let Me Be the Fire (5/10)
6. Love Like Us (3/10)

Top 5: 6.7/10
Overall: 6.08/10

Any of the top 3 will be good for me!

Posted by: Padamic Tension 25th January 2024, 12:41 AM

Unless the late late shows darws a big audience outside its usual audience i dont think Go Tobann stands even the slightest chance of going through.

Posted by: Padamic Tension 26th January 2024, 08:52 PM

Really hoping for a surprise result tonight here in Ireland and that the boyband doesnt go through but i think Louis Walsh will be doing all he can to plug votes.

Posted by: Iz 🧊 26th January 2024, 10:53 PM

I thought 'Go Tobann' would stand the strongest chance but the panel ripped into it and it wasn't the most jawdropping staging - thankfully they gave Next In Line a decent thrashing too (even if the dreaded DON'T THEY SEEM LIKE NICE LADS still turned up). Maybe Bambie could sneak through?

actually it's going to be Erica isn't it

Posted by: gooddelta 26th January 2024, 11:32 PM

Wow amazing! The best song Ireland has sent in years and years.

A poor running order, a ludicrous international jury 12, and Bambie still thumped the competition *.*

Posted by: Colm 26th January 2024, 11:38 PM

This cannot be happening. Ireland doesn't do this. w00t.gif

Posted by: King Rollo 27th January 2024, 12:08 AM

I liked Bambie Thug's song a lot, it was easily the best of the six, I'm so pleased it will represent Ireland.

My full ranking:

1st Doomsday Blue
2nd Go Tobann
3rd Let Me Be The Fire
4th Love Me Like I Do
5th Judas
6th Love Like Us

Posted by: Padamic Tension 27th January 2024, 02:27 AM

Wow i was sure Bambie would be to different to get picked but I'm so happy she won, by far the best song and I'm excited as I really think she will qualify.
I expected the national jury to rank it lower and international jury to give it 12 so that was a surprise, how the national jury gave love like us 12 is beyond me but thankfully it didn't cost Bambie the win.
Arthur was by far the best on the panel andcwas the most realistic with opinions.
Bambie is so different for Ireland so fingers crossed it can do well.

Bambie Thug is also the first openly non-binary artist to represent a country in Eurovision (though both Roxen and Montaigne came out after Eurovision).

(Also a reminder to use they/them pronouns for Bambie Thug please thank you x happy.gif )

Posted by: Colm 27th January 2024, 11:13 AM

So, what may scupper this is if we end up in the same semi as Slovenia and we certainly don't want to be in the first half if that does happen.

Posted by: Danuary 27th January 2024, 11:26 AM

Ireland sending an actually interesting song for once was not on my bingo card oh my, hope they get rewarded by a big televote

Posted by: Padamic Tension 27th January 2024, 12:06 PM

The entry is more performance and staged based for me rather than the song itself. It's not a song that I can see myself listening to over and over again but I think it can stand out through the sheer wackiness element which is something Ireland doesn't do at Eurovision so it's a welcome change and interested to see how it will be received. Ireland can't be accused of playing it safe this year.

It was wackiness that captivated me when watching it.
For me I loved Brooks thats rich entry 2 years ago and thought she really deserved to qualify but there is no doubt Bambie Thug has the potential to stand out more and be remembered on the night and hopefully they nail the staging.

Posted by: ___∆___ 27th January 2024, 12:14 PM

Horrendous song with great staging, will be an ESC fan favourite but will falter with votes IMO.

Posted by: Liаm 27th January 2024, 12:15 PM

Even if this doesn’t qualify I think this is a really positive step forward for a country that has been as uninspired as Ireland for the virtually entire 21st century bar one or two songs! I hope the voters remember this in the coming years rather than going back to dull pop and bloody boy bands. Great entry!

Posted by: Iz 🧊 27th January 2024, 12:23 PM

A song with such clear artistic vision and that grabs one's attention throughout its 3 minutes shouldn't be at any risk of not qualifying - the most recent ESC analogs that fit the winner's reprise I saw on Eurosong last night and would surely only be better on a bigger stage would be Shum and In Corpore Sano. You can't look away even if you don't like it, and if you do this is absolutely the sort of song you get up off the sofa to vote for.

I know Ireland has a poor record lately but I have enough faith in the Eurovision audience (and juries, this is clearly going to do at least decently with them too) to put this through a semi - even if it's somewhere near Slovenia I think it'd compare very favourably with it. I know everyone will be scared for it (as am I, I don't want to think about a world where this gets left in the semis) but I also don't see much risk of that, experimental entries that fail are esoteric and wrapped up in themselves, this is more on the captivating side of things.

i also said top 10 at the start of this thread, I'm still standing by that but I won't go too hard on predicting it until I see more of the field and/or it makes it through the semi-final to prove me right.

Posted by: Colm 27th January 2024, 12:26 PM

With so much discussion about the lack of diversity among the jury members at last year's Final, maybe the EBU will do something about that issue and that may benefit Ireland too, with this entry.

Posted by: Liаm 27th January 2024, 12:28 PM

I don’t even think it’s competing with Slovenia to be honest, it’s much more experimental. That’s what worries me with qualifying, the semi is only televote and I’m not 100% that this will grab voters across Europe. I think it could go either way to be fair, if it catches on I wouldn’t be surprised if it was in a fairly big way.

Ignoring which countries may pull out, it would be good for Ireland to have countries that send darker stuff in our semi - Iceland, Finland, Ukraine and Serbia

Posted by: Padamic Tension 28th January 2024, 11:20 AM

The song is grabbing some attention online, alot more than previous years although reaction in ireland seems very mixed with some saying the song is awful and we have zero chance of qualifying with others saying its good to see something different and we will qualify for a change.

Posted by: J❄️hq 28th January 2024, 01:59 PM

It's nice that I won't be a lone supporter of Ireland for once!

Easily the best song that they could've picked, and top of my rankings so far, it's one that I want to keep going back and listening to and it REALLY needs to be a return to the final for them. I swear to god if it's left to be announced as the 10th qualifier I'll be having a heart attack

Posted by: Padamic Tension 29th January 2024, 02:01 AM

I bet if we qualify we will either be first announced or last announced and if it we qualify and its the latter il be having heart palpitations.

Posted by: Padamic Tension 2nd February 2024, 03:29 PM

Bambie Thug debuts at number 37 here in the Irish charts this week, thats the first Irirsh entry to make the top 40 since Ryan O Shaughnessy Together in 2018, good to see there is at least some support for the entry this year as the last few years the eurovision entries have charted far lower.

Posted by: Last Dreamer 5th February 2024, 10:15 AM

Awful choice. Even worse than Jedward. sick2.gif

Posted by: Padamic Tension 18th February 2024, 11:45 AM

To be fair jedward did well for ireland especially with lipstick and I never expected that jedward could pull off something as good as lipstick and the staging was excellent. Waterline was catchy too.

The video is well matched to the song and is really good.

Posted by: labeh 10th March 2024, 06:01 PM

I didn't really like the clip, it feels a little overplayed.

Posted by: ___∆___ 10th March 2024, 06:22 PM

So this already went Top 40 in Ireland which is more support than most Irish ESC songs have got - is this going to be the song to return them to the final?

Posted by: Padamic Tension 10th March 2024, 07:09 PM

I'm really hoping it is, I'd love is to be part of the final this year as its been to long.

Posted by: Colm 10th March 2024, 07:20 PM

I think us Irish Eurovision fans are used to not getting our hopes up so I am doubtful because it's rare that more than 4 songs from the first half of a semi final quality and we've got Ukraine, Lithuania, Croatia and Serbia in our half - not to mention Poland who defied predictions last year.

It doesn't look good.

Posted by: Padamic Tension 11th March 2024, 01:01 AM

I really hope we beat the odds and go through although I'm banking on excellent staging on the night.

Interesting to hear the new version for radio purposes and happy to see there performances so far are been well received.

Posted by: Colm 14th April 2024, 11:53 AM

The pre-party performances have been decent and definitely better than many other country's acts.

I am beginning to have hope that we'll qualify but the staging has to look good. I have a fear that it will look cheap and amateurish and that will just not be enough to get voters to vote.

I also hope the camera cuts that we saw in Madrid are going to be used on Malmö. They were very effective.

Posted by: Padamic Tension 15th April 2024, 12:14 AM

I agree I think they need to nail the staging for this a bit like how jedward nailed the staging with lipstick.

Posted by: uhsting 16th April 2024, 10:22 PM

Yeah, the clip of that rehearsal is easily the best of SF1. It's surely got to do well.

Posted by: Padamic Tension 1st May 2024, 11:05 PM

Maybe its wishful thinking on my side but i am starring to get the feeling that Ireland may do better than people are expecting, there is no doubt Bambie Thug are throwing everything at this based on the performances we have seen so far, i really hope it pays off next week,.

Posted by: Juranamo 1st May 2024, 11:28 PM

I mean it's a long shot... But maybe the odds are wrong and this might actually win it? I'm only seeing positive comments surrounding it...

Posted by: J❄️hq 2nd May 2024, 08:41 AM

I think the song itself is still that bit too divisive to go for the win, but the rehearsal is rightfully going down very well (this and Ukraine look by far the best from semi 1) and does seem to be winning some people round, so it would be amazing if it could be pushing for a top 10 finish.

Posted by: Colm 2nd May 2024, 09:51 AM

I think lower top 10 is the most we can expect. Similar to Iceland 2019 but running order has a huge effect on televote in the final and we don't know that yet.

It could be as low as 20 points or as high as 150 in the televote and the jury could blank it, altogether.

Posted by: Padamic Tension 2nd May 2024, 11:54 PM

If it goes through to the final I'd just be over the moon and the rest would be a bonus but I do feel a top 10 finish could be possible.
Ideally they go through and the performance goes down well getting more talking about it which will help in the televote.
Interesting to see how the juries will score it.

Posted by: Crown_The_Witch. 8th May 2024, 12:03 AM

I wonder can Bambie Thug now return us to the top 10 for first time since 2011, part of me thinks it has winner written all over it but another part of thinks it could lose a lot of votes as its a very diverse song and also get little jury support.

No matter the result Saturday night which I think at worst Ireland will do fairly ok I think it will be interesting to see how we approach Eurovision next year as qualifying this year should increase interest next year.
Creatively it was amazing tonight and I think they should learn from that and build on it and not go backwards.

Posted by: witchsting 8th May 2024, 12:07 AM

I mean Hatari came top 10 so I don't think divisiveness is going to smother Ireland's chances of a top 10 x

I’m not sure it’s the ‘conservatives’ - The Eurovision fandom is really a cesspit, I see comment after comment from ESC ‘fans’ attacking artists and countries - it’s possibly way up there as one of the most toxic online fandoms.

Pretty sure it's the conservatives. Even Oli L*ndon is hating them kink.gif The Eurovision fandom is pretty big so you're probably seeing one part of it as there is a good portion of the fandom being very positive about Ireland's qualification happy.gif

The staging is easily the best and the performance i feel is the most memorable, how it will all translate into votes we have to wait and see but hopefully it goes well.

Re enters the irish charts at number 83 today.
Hopefully they get a nice lift now with eurovision in full effect.
I did think it might higher today, it's current peak us number 37.

Bambie posted on Instagram claiming KAN has broken rules which contradicts earlier reports from the EBU that the Israeli broadcaster has not breached any rules.

Posted by: Crown_The_Witch. 11th May 2024, 07:14 PM

Im just hoping Bambie Performs the hell out this song and soaks up lots of votes, wishing them all the best tonight.

Posted by: Crown_The_Witch. 11th May 2024, 08:01 PM

Well they have shown up and nailed a great performance.
Very proud of them with the performance regardless of the result.

Posted by: Crown_The_Witch. 11th May 2024, 10:59 PM

Congrats Bambie on 6th place which equals our best result last seen in 2000 I think.
They should be very proud although I would have never predicted a better jury result over televote.

Posted by: witchsting 11th May 2024, 11:01 PM

Yup amazing job from Bambie and co. They really won us over with the staging and styling. Doomsday Blue will be hard to top and I hope that will encourage more artists to apply! Clare Sands & I Have A Tribe next year pleek?

I'm hoping the great result this year is the start of change on how rte approach eurovision.
Bambie has shown what can be done so I just hope we can build/sustain what we achieved this year and at the least qualify again next year.

I had a feeling Bambie would speak out with pretty much what they said although I did fear they would have said it earlier than now.

Posted by: Crown_The_Witch. 12th May 2024, 01:49 PM

I just saw the semi final results and Bambie managed 3rd place on the semi which was a great result.

Such a shame about the result sad.gif , though 666 is iconic. However, with people like Last Dreamer about, guess it was to be expected...

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 12th May 2024, 05:25 PM

I'm very happy with the result as I think it was a huge turn around for Ireland.

Posted by: Colm 12th May 2024, 05:28 PM

Amazing result.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 13th May 2024, 01:48 AM

I just hope rte have learned from this year and start understanding what's needed to do well and this year not to be just a fluke, my worry is creatively it was all from Bambie and her team with little from rte and that basic staging will return.
I just hope bambies success opens the door to more creative people entering next year with songs that have that stand out feature to them.
Ireland for me really need to follow up next now with a never done before type song to stand out again.

There is a video on TikTok with any Israeli using Icona Pop song 'I Love It' to discredit the boos received on Eurovision (especially that part "I don't care, I Love it"). Oh my. wacko.gif

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 13th May 2024, 01:38 PM

Can you share the video?
Bambie Thug will continue to be very vocal about what happened at Eurovision re Israel but i think aside from that they loved everything else about the experience.

I just re-read this thread.

Iz called a top 10 finish for this on 12th January!

biggrin.gif

unfortunately I bet on a top 5 in the end, damn I*rael

Quite proud of that, though that was mostly instinct on the unusual and great song structure of 'Doomsday Blue' and how I thought it would stand out in any given pack of songs, at the time I hadn't factored in Bambie's artistic vision and charisma nor the intensity and depth of the performance, both of which truly cemented this one's legacy as one of the greats.

Posted by: Doomsday Dong 16th May 2024, 02:58 PM

It is one of the greats ans ir should have won. However, rhe chorus is nowhere near as good as the verses, which may have held it back. With a full on rock, no disjointed pop verses, song like Lordi... woulda won.

New peak of number 23 here in Ireland this week.

Never expected it chart at all in the UK so this is a huge surprise.
I think this is the first time an Irish entry has charted since Jedwards lipstick back in 2011.

Glad it’s managed a new peak, expected it to be challenging for Top 10 in Ireland off the back of it qualifying, all the press and doing amazingly well at the contest though.

Posted by: Smint 17th May 2024, 10:26 PM

Expected better in the UK tbh. At least it beat Eden Golan though!

Posted by: Padamic_Tension 18th May 2024, 07:33 PM

Im the opposite i didnt think it would be anywhere near top 75 as i thought possibly low top 100 at best.
I did think it might have gone top 20 in Ireland but least it got a good climb and a new peak.

Posted by: Padamic_Tension 24th May 2024, 06:04 PM

Number 55 in Ireland this week, glad to see it get another week on the chart.

Posted by: ___∆___ 27th May 2024, 04:17 PM

I really thought this was going to take off across Europe after the staging, hype/coverage and the fact it done so well.

Posted by: p a v 28th May 2024, 11:59 AM

They are coming to Berlin in September and I will just have to go 💗

I think the shows could be very interesting and will be put together with great thought and detail if eurovision is anything to go by.
