No, only Croatia or Switzerland can prevent Israel from winning.

Posted by: SemiDongContest 10th May 2024, 11:58 AM

CROWN THE WITCH!!!

This might end up being very political. I am seeing more and more people saying online, vote Ireland. She supports Palestine and will protest if she wins. Then others in same comment secrions are saying no, vote Israel. This might just be online noise on a few youtune videos though, rather than a sign of big political votes for both?

Also, where isSan Marino!?!?

Switzerland for the win!

Seems mad to me that Sweden are performing first

As SVT is the host, they had to draw Sweden's position at random.

Posted by: Ansel 10th May 2024, 01:21 PM

I have no idea how accurate this all is bc I'm reading it through ATRL and Twitter but Joost apparently hasn't shown up to rehearsals and the EBU have said they're investigating an incident thinking.gif

also Italy have put out a statement saying the leaked televote was 'incomplete' [https://eurovoix.com/2024/05/10/italy-rai-issues-statement-semi-final-2-voting-results-leaked/], but that could just be them saving face? This is all so messy and I just hope this doesn't all lead to an Israel win because that will be the end of my interest in this whole contest tbh.

Posted by: witchsting 10th May 2024, 01:27 PM

Joost did show up in the flag parade but he deleted everything Eurovision-related.

Posted by: Sour Candy 10th May 2024, 01:32 PM

If Joost withdraws now, that would be the bravest thing ever, we stan!

Posted by: SemiDongContest 10th May 2024, 02:41 PM

I really don't think Israel should be competing, with an active controbersial war going on. Gaza was walled off and nor considered psrt of Isrsel, so to enter it is invading. Russia got banned for its invasion too. It's impossible to separate politics from the song when it's something like this.

Posted by: Smint 10th May 2024, 02:53 PM

I think the best thing is not to vote at all and provide income to the Eurovision coffers when Israel will win anyway. When twitter is full of posts like Yesterday I hated the ultra woke political Eurovision Song Contest but today I'm advising you to vote against the UK entry who hates 🇬🇧 and show support to Israel 🇮🇱 who's entry was subject to a racist hate mob. then why play their game? There's no way that they won't win. It will be akin to a ghastly white supremacy event (I mean EBU happy enough to expel when the victims are white but not when Arab) with the genocidal state crowned in glory. sick2.gif
Eurovision should have thrown them out but have decided not to and so best to boycott. I'm personally not boycotting the show on TV as it coincides with a gathering of people not seen for ages but def won't be voting.

Spend the money instead giving to Palestinian aid charities.

Posted by: SemiDongContest 10th May 2024, 02:56 PM

I was plannong on voting for Ireland tbh. The witch is pro Palestine too, so it is telling the EBU we aren't happy with s vountry embroiled in an invasion being alloeed to perform. It's mesnt to be a song, not political, contest.

Posted by: calxyum 10th May 2024, 03:22 PM

It just baffles me honestly. If Russia had been allowed to participate in 2022, would they have garnered the same mass support that Israel is unfathomably getting? Of course you would have the odd contrarians who would have supported them but I highly doubt to anywhere near the degree that we’re seeing with Israel.

But naturally, to us ‘Western’ countries, Russia is the big bad guy and Israel is our (puppet) friend.

Over the years countries have been penalised due to their involvement in wars (it’s happened to the UK) yet now it seems Europe is applauding it? Go to war/invade another country and win Eurovision?

Don’t think I can stomach seeing Israel party and parading around if they win and I’ve watched the show since I was 10.

Posted by: Jαsє 10th May 2024, 04:16 PM

I know the Eurovision has always been politicized but I miss the days when it wasn't politicized to the point it overshadows the music and the joy of the event. I'll always be excited about it but I'm not gonna lie, there's a rain cloud over tomorrow night for me and that's such a massive shame.

Posted by: Liam sota 10th May 2024, 04:18 PM

To kick Russia out and not Israel is crazy hypocrisy at least Russia is actually in Europe, so you have to blame the cowardice of the organisers for the mess. Both should be treated the same

Posted by: Crown_The_Witch. 10th May 2024, 05:03 PM

A win for Israel is just bad all round and will do Eurovision no favours.
I really hope Israel dont win as its sends out a very wrong message.

Posted by: J00prstar 11th May 2024, 01:58 AM

Ugh Israel has an amazing slot. I can't believe it's in contention to win, I thought the world was against them right now or at least ashamed of them!

Unfortunately Ukraine, my winner pick, is going to struggle from #2. Ireland has a good slot but can they actually pick up momentum so late? It should do well with juries though for the technical difficulty.

Posted by: Sour Candy 11th May 2024, 09:08 AM

And we should believe that Israel getting 12 points from every country will be legit? Sure Jan

Posted by: LexC 11th May 2024, 09:31 AM

I think the crowd that will be mass voting for Israel probably haven't even listened to any of the songs yet (and might still not). I don't think I have the words to describe my feelings at the moment other than a mix of sadness and anger that this whole mess has ruined what's supposed to be one of the most joyful nights on the entertainment calendar - entirely as a result of the EBU's choices. The atmosphere tonight during the voting is going to be absolutely awful - make no mistake, an Israeli win is the end of, if not the contest itself, the version of the contest that it has been up to now.

So yeah, I've had better Eurovision day mornings!

Posted by: Crown_The_Witch. 11th May 2024, 09:44 AM

I think it's going to be very interesting how the juries vote for Israel. Ideally they would sink it to try and overcome the huge potential televote.
But hopefully Europe can overcome the people mass voting Israel who has others said are probably people voting who won't even watch the show or know 1 other song.
I'm with others, Eurovision in our house has always been about craziness, fun, laugh and light entertainment with a few good songs thrown in that gives a few hours of light entertainment to switch off from the world where tonight is starting to feel the opposite and will serve to remind us of everything that is wrong with the world right now.

And that’s the saddest part - views on Israel aside if they want the win that much so that they can pretend Europe supports them then so be it, but like you said the contest will totally change and it will be a fact that the contest is politically motivated in voting rather than something that is brought up each year.

On paper though the Juries should love the Israeli entry - well sung, well staged and something they would typically go for, I can see them awarding it quite well.

If the situation with Israel wasn’t happening I think it would’ve easily been a Top 10 finishing song.

Posted by: Iz 🌟 11th May 2024, 09:58 AM

I am holding onto that it takes an incredible amount of organisation to replicate that far more natural televote result we saw in Ukraine 2022. A 12 on every televote would be an aberration that has to be investigated really. Though I'm still expecting it to come through for all the reasons like positive voting.

I'm just so incredibly angry that despite all of the bad behaviour that the KAN delegation has exhibited, harassing other artists and representing a genocidal state, that Eurovision looks like they'll reward them. For something that will ultimately have nothing to do with the contest, while the spineless EBU continue to enable them. The talk of potentially DSQing Joost when the Israeli delegation has behaved awfully and treated the contest with contempt, spiralling it towards its doom.

Yeah, this should be a fun day. I'm just nervous for tonight now.

Posted by: Liаm 11th May 2024, 10:11 AM

It was a verbal threat not a physical altercation, I think him most likely snapping and saying something in a tense situation is really not something that should be a disqualification when the Israeli delegation have been harassing artists and even the Israeli broadcaster themselves said horrible things about Bambie Thug on the broadcast. A songwriter also said Bambie shouldn’t be breathing and as an anti-Semite. How the f*** is that ok but not whatever Joost did?!

Part of me feels like it’s very convenient that a possible televote winner and one of the biggest anti Israeli voices is suddenly gone from the competition the day before laugh.gif I’ll eat my words if it turns out to be something awful but eh

EDIT: the EBU has confirmed Joost has been disqualified.

I’m not 100% with the juries, it’s nothing special if you just evaluate the song. Mon amour is a far better and more striking ballad, not that the juries can only vote for one ballad, and then you’ve The Code which is totally unique and La Noia, which is a slick well performing contemporary pop song which the juries usually love. I don’t think they will tank her or anything but, and maybe I’m naive, I think they could do enough that it could stop her winning.

Surely if Israel win though then there basically won’t be a Eurovision next year as everyone will just boycott? A few countries were close to not participating this year and that was just with Israel being allowed to enter.

Honestly I think there is a real threat of that being a reality - political views aside many countries/participants won’t want to be caught up in any drama or backlash.

Let the EBU try and deal with that.

Posted by: Iz 🌟 11th May 2024, 11:14 AM

If the EBU are willing to make their bed, I'm happy to let them. I don't want any part of a Eurovision 2025 hosted by Israel at this moment.

I think the same, if Israel win, Eurovision is doomed next year as I couldn't see beyond 10 countries entering.

Posted by: simonf 11th May 2024, 11:17 AM

What a mess, but may be as the Netherlands are gone that could help Croatia possibly? Many said Netherlands and Croatia would split the vote so that won't happen now.

Does anyone dare make any predictions about tonight? I can't call it at all and noticed no-one has done any predictions in the normal thread yet. Even if Israel win the televote, is it really going to get 400+ points like Ukraine? Certainly could get over 300 but I'm not convinced all countries will them their 12 points but who knows. It will literally depend on what the juries do. Some will boycott them but others will give them some points although I can't see them getting many 10/12s. The voting is going to be quite tense either way. I dread to think what will happen in the audience if Israel win it to be honest.

Posted by: witchsting 11th May 2024, 11:18 AM

I feel it would be 200+ points at most. There is a significant number of countries that recognise Palestine and there is a sizeable number of people that support Palestine.

And regardless of the outcome I think this year will certainly damage the contest - maybe not in viewing figures etc but certainly artists thinking twice if it’s the right career choice, the online hatred is louder each year against participants.

Olly’s recent insta story about tonight he almost looks sad, it’s as if he’s like WTF have I become wrapped up in.

Posted by: Crown_The_Witch. 11th May 2024, 11:25 AM

This year needed to be a last year to stop Israel winning in that a clear runaway, if the betting is any way on track Croatia, Switzerland and Ireland are some of main contenders with all 3 so dufferent that will get votes from very different audiences and due to such a split it leaves to easier for Israel to win.
I'm still hoping that voters see sense and don't crown Israel the winner.

Posted by: Harve 11th May 2024, 11:26 AM

I didn't actually WANT to boycott but I find this extremely depressing and embarrassing, thinking of watching the performances but then when it's fully Dark I'll grab my headtorch and go look for the aurora which I missed last night!

But it will be Israel vs. others, Israel doesn't need majority to get 12 pts from each country, quite the opposite, they just need bunch of coordinated people who vote for them.

Posted by: Crown_The_Witch. 11th May 2024, 11:30 AM

The Italian televote leak worries me in that was it the same from other countries that Israels televote was so high.
Maybe I'm totally naive but I'd be very surprised if Israel pick up much televotes from Ireland which I know counts for little as Ireland for a while now have been very anti Israel and very vocal about it.

I agree, I just can’t see it. Again to compare to Ukraine, they actually had a contemporary song that stood out and would have done well anyway, and then people were more sympathetic in a widespread way for Ukraine. Obviously that makes no difference in some ways as you can’t vote negatively, but I don’t think it will be the case that every country will vote as the Italy leak did. Italy is a horrendously racist country and very right wing so it’s not a huge surprise that they would go for Italy.

I think she will do decent on the jury but not a massive score, and probably win the televote, an absolute lock for top 3 anyway. I think that could equate a win as I’m not sure Rim Tim Tagi Dim will exactly lap up the jury, but I don’t think it will be a 400+ televote landslide for Israel. I do think Europapa not being in contention will help Rim Tim Tagi Dim, as much as it’s under such a dark cloud.

Delegations from Ireland, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Portugal held a crisis meeting with the EBU yesterday, considering withdrawal.

Sources are also saying a crisis meeting is happening now.

I'm so glad people are actively speaking out. More more more!!!

- I cannot look back and say that the EBU has made the wrong decision, he says in an interview with SVT.

3 hours to go and the controversy continues, I would say its a tense stadium in Malmo right now and they have their work cut out for tonight to end without something going off.
At least one of the contestants is surely going to say something at the end of their performance that will likely be bleeped out.

There will without a doubt be statements made at the end of performances, or flags - at this point I can see an act not performing or just standing on stage.

I guess what I don’t understand is it’s been known for a very long time that Israel were performing. If a country had decided to boycott a month ago fair enough. They didn’t. I’m not seeing a material change in the circumstances now. There’s been leaked data suggesting Israel cojld landslide the televote which I find as concerning as everyone else but that’s not a reason to withdraw. The Dutch disqualification sounds very draconian but from what we know and from what they themselves have said it was not Israel related (OK the tense atmosphere no doubt played a part but still). So I can’t see a reason to withdraw NOW.

Often the reality of a situation can heighten tensions and emotions. Not to mention the apparently disgraceful way that the KAN delegation have been behaving and the now apparent Zionist campaign to propel Israel to victory to express their victimhood. All potentially predictable situations but ones that I think we all hoped wouldn't happen.

The fact that they were potentially predictable means that if I were in charge of the EBU, I'd have ensured that such a controversial country could not compete in the contest and risk inflaming political tensions, but what do I know?

The EBU is a disgusting shitshow of an organisation. The Dutch offered ways of reconciliation, the incident was minor, and they go all in with the most severe punishment? I honestly do not know what they were thinking in the slightest with this DSQ, all the information that has come out about it has made them look way out of their depth.

I really hope there will be resignations from the EBU higher ups. There's no excuses for this.

Posted by: J00prstar 11th May 2024, 05:06 PM

But if the way of Israel not winning is for people to vote for someone else then why is the campaign not for that, mobilising around another entry, instead of withdrawing altogether and clearing the road for an Israel victory which will only ultimately increase their sphere of influence?

I don't understand how this is different from when a dangerous electoral candidate is standing, deciding to not vote, even knowing that then damnsyou to live under that person's rule.

The difference between the actions of the Ukrainian state (defending its sovereignty from a hostile invasion) and the actions of the Israeli state (mass slaughter of innocent civilians as it embarks on an ill-advised crusade into foreign territory that clearly it believes it has a right to) is what generally makes the difference, I would say.

Wouldn't mass withdrawals split the anti-Israel vote less ways - giving the chosen one more chance of beating them?

Incidentally this is my rationale about not boycotting, because I did not want to give up the contest I love to these people and I know that they do get more soft power from winning even with some moral people not engaging.

In the event of an Israeli victory it will become all about them and I don't want to be engaging with that.

I'm talking about the people boycotting and not watching it in the first place. I haven't yet seen a good argument for that.

"The viewing figures will be less" aye great, real blow you're striking to Israel there if they win anyway.

That's the letter of the rules. In practice, historical and contemporary allusions, as present in '1944' and 'Stefania' have been within the rules and allowed. That happening sometimes is unavoidable when your competitors are nation-states, inherently political constructions.
This is also why 'Hurricane' was allowed by the rules, even though it is to many people still unacceptably about Israel's victimhood and the invasion of Gaza, they changed the lyrics from 'October Rain' to be more generic and allegorical. If I were in charge of the EBU I still would not have allowed it as an obvious rewrite of a political song, but that's been done.

But we both know this isn't about the official Eurovision rules, it's about what people deem acceptable and in Europe, supporting Ukraine in the Ukraine-Russia war is a pretty uncontroversial position. Israel-Palestine is pretty controversial and to much of Eurovision's fanbase, their view on the moral position is against Israel, the country in Eurovision.

lol this just proves exactly why israel should be banned

im sorry but i don’t agree with any of you who say a boycott is not the only acceptable act tonight. if you are watching then you are participating in what is a very clear political position in allowing israel to enter. you are showing the EBU that you find their behaviour and choices to be acceptable. you are lining the pockets of those making a profit of the participation of a genocidal government.

Posted by: Rooney 11th May 2024, 05:46 PM

Can Eurovision put a delay in the performance? I reckon they might do that so that anything political can be bleeped out.

Tbh my view is Israel should have been banned following the lines of Russia. I think there's a lot of unjust criticism at them though, it's easy in hindsight to say it now and I do think they need to address the rules to be really clear going forward, as this years contest is going to be entirely politicised (on both sides) whether they like it or not and I'm sure they can do too much about it now.

Israel's song is lovely and Eden's a very competent vocalist... but obviously I wouldn't ever consider voting for it even if it were my favourite and I strongly hope it doesn't win drama.gif

Posted by: ___∆___ 11th May 2024, 07:38 PM

Israel - 0

Posted by: Qween 11th May 2024, 07:39 PM

Even with the tech you could hear the boos. It’s really not a winning song in any way so I hope ANYTHING stops it.

Posted by: Dan17F1 11th May 2024, 07:39 PM

Obviously this is very difficult to judge and can’t be voted on… but just judging the performance this was my favourite so far.

SVT muted the audience tf

Posted by: LexC 11th May 2024, 07:39 PM

Hopefully that's the last time I'm required to hear that song.

Posted by: Sour Candy 11th May 2024, 07:40 PM

Israel played this perfectly, the song is good enough that the win will not seem ridiculous in that sense. But it will demolish the ESC as an institution.

Posted by: Chez Wombat 11th May 2024, 07:40 PM

Well, Israel would not only be a morally disgusting winner but also a very boring one, flush x

Posted by: The Dong Contest 11th May 2024, 07:40 PM

I found that performance v boring tbh. Sounded better in studio format
