Recap:

Posted by: Last Dreamer 9th January 2024, 07:13 PM

We got only modern trash, which sounds like everything in streaming era.
I wanted vintage old fashioned ballad on French language for epic Luxembourg comeback after very long pause in 30 (!!!) years.

Not sure how much forum members heard this old song before, but it's my second favourite Luxembourgish entry.

Geraldine – Toi (1975)

modern nation uses first opportunity it has to send an entry in 30 years to send a modern entry shock

besides Naomi Ayé is pretty close to what you'd be looking for given that all of these entries are by necessity produced in 2023-2024.

It's not the best NF ever but Krick, Tali or the rock band would be a fine entry. Could definitely get behind Lux returning with something as dramatic as 'Drowning In The Rain'.

Modern problems require modern solutions I fear.

Although Last Dreamer is not entirely wrong: kink.gif

Yes but let's not encourage his 'music died in 1987' nonsense x

This is more a symptom of Luxembourg's delegation not used to choosing songs for Eurovision and artists not used to sending their songs - put plainly, I expected most, if not all of what they'd put forward to be generic trash and honestly the fact we've got an Elsie Bay castoff (Knick) that they could send is better than I thought the situation would be.

Music died somewhere in 2010-2012.

My rating:

1. Drowning in the Rain (9/10) (This screams Elsie Bay and of course she is the one writing it kink.gif )
2. Fighter (9/10)
3. Paumée sur terre (7/10)
4. Finally Alive (7/10)
5. Devil in the Detail (7/10)
6. Believer (6/10)
7. Drop (6/10)
8. Hold On (6/10)

Top 5: 7.8/10
Overall: 7.125/10

This is an alright selection, though not a lot here stand out. I guess we'll have to see the staging before we make a final decision... Some of the songs the amount of autotune doesn't feel suited at all nocheer.gif

okaaayyyyyy can we talk about how good the production of this NF is???? cheeseblock.png cheeseblock.png

All the performances have some really good vocals (though I'm not sure if there is autotune involved). I think only Edsun, Chaild and Tali were slightly shaky. In terms of staging, I think Angy and Rafa Ela's is the best. Krick has the overall package for me, so I'm banking on her to win!

Posted by: Iz 🧊 27th January 2024, 08:21 PM

it's a really well put together NF, definitely made it worth their while returning even if the songs aren't the best

Still if it's Naomi, Tali or Krick it'll be a great entry out of it (and I'm not sure any of the other 5 are likely to win based on those performances?)

Tali will be representing Luxembourg ohmy.gif Although with some controversy involved thinking.gif

Posted by: Iz 🧊 27th January 2024, 09:41 PM

I think that's a good one. It's a fun pop song and she performs it well.

not up on what the controversy is

Ah cool, cool, another vector for people to be antisemitic against a Eurovision artist, cool

A quick search and it just looks like people are going after her because she's half-Jewish and are insinuating everything was rigged so the one Jewish artist in the Luxembourg NF won :/ You know where I stand on the conflict but I cannot abide the idiots who flood Eurovision posts thinking they're dunking on Zionists while accidentally or not sounding like bigots while doing so, especially when they get personal. It hardly looks like she's Noa Kirei-level.

Maybe she isn’t Noa Kirel level but dedicating your song to your brother in the IDF murdering Palestinians is not really a good look laugh.gif When there’s a genocide happening there really isn’t levels if you’re supporting it imo it’s really not the time for shouting our your brother in the thick of a genocide.

No, it’s your music taste that never changed and you’re blaming others for your own inability to adapt. Music, just like literally everything ever, will always change. Have fun being stuck in the 80s for eternity

It's suspicious on her side, I missed the dedication, but I was concerned last night and am still at how online Eurofans saw that she was half-Israeli and suddenly made up narratives that's she's a Zionist and that the contest was rigged for her to win. We don't know what her brother does in the IDF apart from having to serve, we don't know if her support extends to anything more than concern for a sibling, we don't know if she's going to act like a second Israeli act or shun media at Eurovision.

She may well make statements in the coming months that definitively place her on the shit list, but I'm not ready to condemn someone for being from Israel, especially when any attack would be more of an individual nature than actually having some use behind it, like how banning Israel would be useful. Even if they were banned now, we'd probably now have the people calling for Israel's exclusion saying that she's acting as a proxy anyway and at that point it really is just them being anti-semitic - the Eurovision audience likely won't know about it and it wouldn't give Israel the soft power they're after.

I said much the same about the Russian member of Vesna last year - though far less likely that any given Russian supports what Russia is doing.

After so long away from the competition it is a very average return.

Posted by: J❄️hq 6th February 2024, 08:15 AM

Yeah, this is my least favourite of the entries chosen so far sadly. It's just so generic sad.gif

Posted by: RobBot 6th February 2024, 03:05 PM

I actually really like this! I think I'd find it more generic if it was all in English, but the mixture of languages and certain choices of flow in the language stop this being completely run of the mill. That said, I expect there'll be a lot better to come and it's not the peak of pop girly entries, but I think it's a strong enough entry to make the final and it's well performed!

Why did they switch off the reverb in the revamped version?? tearsmile.gif tearsmile.gif tearsmile.gif Especially the reverbed clap made this song so much more epic sad.gif It's now a 7/10 for me
