Netherlands 2024
Joost Klein
Europapa

Rapper Joost Klein has been picked to represent the Netherlands!

Omg, I appreciate this swerve from The Netherlands, I've been getting a little bored of them peddling the same sound every year for the last decade, even though it's produced some very high quality entries.

Friesenjung was a big hit in my chart this summer, and this choice will get the DACH region televoters on board at least you'd think?

The song will be in Dutch apparently.

The idea of a rap song does intrigue me, but then I loved Malik Harris a couple of years ago and he came last…..

What a bop! reminds me of Scooter vs happy hardcore from the 90s

Posted by: Iz 🧊 29th February 2024, 07:36 PM

I respect the icon game

Song needs some time to grow but very welcome game-switch from the Netherlands, their old schtick had run well dry.

Posted by: gooddelta 29th February 2024, 07:47 PM

Really like this, the hardstyle part is a genre I really never thought we’d see in Eurovision. I like the slower part at the end too, and it’s very catchy.

Someone behind me in the uni library was watching this as it premiered laugh.gif

Posted by: TheSnake 29th February 2024, 09:13 PM

I knew it would be an entertaining song based on the title!

Posted by: Padamic Tension 29th February 2024, 11:13 PM

This is very different for the Netherlands based on their entries in the last few years, cant see this doing all that great.

Posted by: gooddelta 2nd March 2024, 10:07 PM

Can't stop listening to this. I think it will do really well in the televote and be a big European hit, not sure what the juries will make of it but surprised it's not in the odds top ten.

Posted by: uhsting 13th March 2024, 11:01 PM

Safe to say this is not my cup of tea. 5/10

Already # 1 in Netherlands and Belgium. laugh.gif

Posted by: Liаm 19th March 2024, 09:53 AM

The more I hear this, I think this might be the Cha Cha Cha of the year over Rim Tim Tagi Dim, not musically just in terms of like it being a breakout smash that will eat the televote

Posted by: Herbs 19th March 2024, 09:58 AM

So I don’t mind this and of the songs I’ve listened to so far it does stand out

It does sound like they are going with a Cha Cha Cha spin off (which I get as it was popular, but surely it will suffer in the jury vote)

Posted by: Last Dreamer 26th March 2024, 07:45 AM

Third week on the top in Netherlands (Arcade had only two)

Posted by: gooddelta 5th April 2024, 10:56 AM

Joost has released an EP of remixes called Europapa: Greatest Hits.

Love this 'Ringtone' version, which essentially turns it into a Jamster style mid-00s jingle.

Mixed with Falco - Vienna Calling from the 80s for the rap, that was about world cities, this is obviously just about Europe. Falco was the original euro-rap star anyway!

Could we be seeing our first artist pull out over the situation at hand?

Posted by: Liаm 10th May 2024, 03:45 PM

If he’s disqualified I genuinely hope the pro Palestine artists like Silvester, Marina, Bambie and Nemo pull out too, f*** the whole thing up for them

Is Olly not pro Palestine too?

Honestly this

Posted by: JulianT 10th May 2024, 04:34 PM

Surely pulling out now is saying “I was happy to perform alongside Israel when it didn’t look like they were going to win, but now that I think they’ll win I’m not happy”.

Posted by: The Dong Contest 10th May 2024, 04:40 PM

But the song doesn't deserve to win. It would only win due to politics and the situation, which he's protesting against anyway

Posted by: 152chris 10th May 2024, 04:53 PM

if what’s being reported is true, let’s at least hope israel are kicked out too

If Netherlands pull out because they are penalised (which they already have been, by being suspended from today's rehearsal), pulling out now says "we wanted to hear what Eden's thoughts are: why are you sensoring our voice? Why are you sensoring the crowd's voice by altering the crowd's noise?". If others pull out because of that, it says the same thing. It says "we're not happy that we are not allowed anything resembling a voice".

If Joost pulls out there is a chance others will follow.

Yeah if anything they'd be done for instigating. Which they've been doing all season to other acts as well. Horrible people.

I really hope Joost is alright, this is an unprecedented mess.

Posted by: Liаm 10th May 2024, 06:07 PM

Apparently it’s not to do with Israel?! Wtf is happening, they should just be transparent.

The final preview starts at 8 I think, the crowd have been let in, so I guess we’ll see if Joost is there or they say anything.

Posted by: witchsting 10th May 2024, 06:28 PM

The Netherlands has disappeared in the running order.

UPDATE

Posted by: eurovision4ever 10th May 2024, 06:34 PM

Fan media reporting it’s absolutely nothing to do with Israel

Posted by: witchsting 10th May 2024, 06:36 PM

Reports are saying juries are assessing a previous performance.

Posted by: Liаm 10th May 2024, 06:37 PM

Yeah they’re using the semi performance so he’s not disqualified at present.

I think it’s such a shambles to allow rumours to trickle down from fan media and not say something themselves!!

Posted by: ___∆___ 10th May 2024, 06:49 PM

What a lovely delegation -

Posted by: witchsting 10th May 2024, 06:54 PM

Confirmed: Joost will not perform in tonight's jury show but his semi-final performance will be used instead.

Posted by: Liаm 10th May 2024, 07:13 PM

Huge boos in the arena as they announced that Joost won’t be performing!! They also didn’t show him in the flag parade, they used crowd shots instead

Posted by: danG 10th May 2024, 07:26 PM

apparently the disqualification is because he punched a female production worker in which case I have little sympathy for him,
regardless the way the EBU are handling the whole situation this year remains a shitshow

Posted by: Davidson 10th May 2024, 07:40 PM

This is sadly overshadowing everything.

I think if he’s not disqualified and performs tomorrow, The Netherlands wins. If he is disqualified I think Israel has this.

Posted by: *Tim 10th May 2024, 07:58 PM

If he is not disqualified he better sue tbh

Posted by: ___∆___ 10th May 2024, 07:59 PM

^^ I never felt The Netherlands would be a winner regardless, it’s a great fun pop song and certainly a Top 10 finish and a hit in Europe regardless of where it ends up.

With this drama I feel it’ll just split votes - The Netherlands getting the vote due to what’s happened and potentially taking away from others leading to an Israeli win.

Posted by: gooddelta 10th May 2024, 08:22 PM

I doubt enough of the voting public will have heard about this situation today to really particularly motivate more votes towards Netherlands if Joost does still take part.

I suppose if he's not allowed to perform in the final but they show his entry on video, they may have to give some sort of explanation.

Europapa is No.1 in my rankings and I'd be sad to lose it, but obviously if what is rumoured is true (and I don't know if it is) then it's difficult to just let it slide, it's pretty serious.

Posted by: Liаm 10th May 2024, 08:31 PM

Regardless of whatever the incident is, I just think it’s so shit of them not to be transparent about any of it. Even disregarding the whole Israel saga etc, it’s just showing yet again that this year has been an utter shambles on the front of the EBU. If he’s under investigation to potentially be disqualified, they should say, and I know they still have to go ahead with the jury final but say nothing is found to be wrong, that could ruin Joost’s jury chances as it’s not going to have the same impact watching a video compared to being there for the performance. Idk it’s hard to comment without knowing what’s going on, but again it wouldn’t hurt them to be transparent. For the fans to be there for the jury final, and still not know what’s going on, is just a shambles.

I’m not sure, it’s had mass media coverage including mainstream news -

Posted by: p a v 10th May 2024, 11:15 PM

If Israel had not been allowed to participate, none of this would have happened.

Censoring crowd noises, being all hush-hush about what happened here, banning of FLAGS. And then the AUDACITY to still call this a non-political contest. It always was and always will be one.

Posted by: witchsting 11th May 2024, 10:21 AM

The Netherlands has been disqualified from the grand final

Obviously don’t know any of the facts and only social media speculation but what a sorry state of affairs cry.gif

Posted by: Iz 🌟 11th May 2024, 10:27 AM

I'm so fucking mad for them.

Obviously we do not know the details but it is ridiculous how this happens while the KAN delegation gets to act the way they do with threats on other artists and they're sitting pretty.

Posted by: Liаm 11th May 2024, 10:28 AM

Swedish police have confirmed it wasn’t physical and didn’t have anything to do with another artist or delegation. Reading between the lines I think it’s a tense atmosphere that he’s at the centre of and he probably snapped. And we all know what the cause of the atmosphere is…..

For me, I don’t think anything verbal is worth disqualification if Israel are getting away what they’ve gotten away with, even if we ignore them being allowed to participate in the first place.

Posted by: witchsting 11th May 2024, 10:33 AM

We certainly don't know the details so I won't be jumping into conclusions about Joost but I agree the confrontations from the Israeli delegation and media have largely gone unchecked.

Posted by: 152chris 11th May 2024, 10:42 AM

obviously it’s the correct thing to do if true. but ‘intimidation’. exactly what the israeli delegation have been doing this whole time. wtf.

It must be serious to be disqualified, I wonder did they debate whoever came 11th in the televote to take their place.
Also I wonder will it be mentioned tonight or will it be a case where there will be no reference made to it all.

I think they did at some point but if that were to be done, the decision would have come through yesterday. Obviously, I think they were expecting the case to be mild but now that the police has decided to start an investigation, which could indicate a crime has taken place, it is too late to issue a wild card.

The running order has also been shifted so I expect no reference will be made at all.

Posted by: Crown_The_Witch. 11th May 2024, 11:26 AM

It's a pitty they couldn't have given a wild card to let someone through in their place.

Posted by: witchsting 11th May 2024, 11:45 AM

Update: The running order has been updated and now the running order number 05 will be blanked.

The Netherlands will still present their jury votes and the televoting still counts.

I suspect there be “technical difficulties”trying to reach the Dutch presenter in the vote reveal though

I think there will be a few ‘technical difficulties’ tonight plus intervention on ‘abnormal’ voting as we saw 2022.

Popular Dutch singer Nielson wrote a love letter to Joost last Friday:

Posted by: gooddelta 18th June 2024, 09:34 PM

I love Joost's new single <3

It's top five in The Netherlands with Europapa still in the top ten. What a huge star he is there.

It's basically a happy hardcore version of Right Here Waiting by Richard Marx, with late 90s style production and graphics (it even mocks up a 1999 style for the video).
