Feel free to move this topic if it's better placed elsewhere but I've started listening to the PopMaster quiz with Ken Bruce, on Radio 2, this week and have quickly become hooked. So thought why not create a topic where we can share scores and chat about it if others are interested too.
For those unfamiliar it's essentially a music quiz that features questions spanning from the 1950s to the present day. Two contestants play a unique round of questions each where they can score up to 39 points. This includes regular questions worth 3 points each and three bonus questions for 6 points apiece. The contestant with the highest score then advances to the 'Three-in-Ten' round, where they have 10 seconds to name 3 chart hits by a random artist chosen.
It's on during weekdays at 10:30am - 11am.
Catch up here:
PopMaster: https://planetradio.co.uk/podcasts/popmaster/
Ten To The Top: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p06q6h18/episodes/downloads
Round 1: 27/39 (didn't get: Supergrass album, Erasure 00s hit, 5000 Volts 70s hits)
Round 2: 27/39 (didn't get: Duane Eddy, 1984 top 3 - was confusing the years of the 80s TOTP episodes I watched recently , Michael McDonald)
Three-in-Ten: 2/3 (got 'Come On Eileen' and 'Geno', really should've got 'Jackie Wilson Says' due to the infamous TOTP blunder but had a mind-blank))
That consistency today *.*
(In the office tomorrow, so not sure if I can catch it live then, but will catch up if not)
Round 1 - I got 15 pts
Round 2 - I got 30 pts
I named Come On Eileen, Geno, Jackie Wilson Said for the three hits so 3 out of 3.
I might have got one or two more but the contestants said the answer while I was still trying to think what it might be.
Round 1 - I'm not sure how you score it as I've never played before but I got them all aside from the final question.
Round 2 - Got them all aside from Duane Eddy
Round 3 - Only got 2 out of 3 as I couldn't think of anything at all past the obvious two
I normally have it on in the background while working or doing buzzjacky stuff and turn it up for the questions, and then get frustrated at how my memory recall is getting worse for names and dates as I get older, especially recent stuff(*).
Round 1 - I forgot who sang the 2010 hit! the 2000 Erasure song! and shouted out the wrong Donna Summer cover before I corrected myself. Very poor!
Round 2 - Got 2011 song Jealousy wrong (my brain just kept repeating Not Pet Shop Boys Not Pet Shop Boys), and the Chico number 1 (he said it before my brain got into gear!).
got the 3 in ten though. I often don't though...
(*) anything post 2000 as Ive never reviewed anything from this century beyond what I hear on the radio!
When we actually used to go into the office everyone kept trying to get me to go on the show (no thanks! Been on a radio 1 pop quiz, never again!) as my party piece used to be showing off pop trivia knowledge if anyone needed a question answering. I wouldnt have minded getting the ones above wrong if I didn't know or like them. But I did like those tracks (bar Chico)!
I have a long term plan to go on this but really need to improve my 70s and 80s knowledge first!
I haven’t listened to those episodes but I tend to score around Jade’s level - so could probably do decently but wouldn’t go on unless I could do really well haha!
I listen to this everyday I’m working from home and my notepad is full of 3/3 and 0/6s when I’m scoring myself 😂. Especially love the Champions League each Xmas week!
My average score is around 15-20/39 most days but it really depends on the questions so one day I might only get 3/39 (damn 60s and 70s questions) but the highest I’ve got is 36/39!
Today I was poor and got 6/39 and 18/39 but got the 3 in 10 for U2 and 1/3 for the other one!
The Scottish guy who was on Hit List was also on Pop Master yday 😄
Great to see quite a few others enjoying this! I knew I recognised one of the people on it yesterday from The Hit List, Steve, his knowledge is really impressive. That'd be amazing if you went on it one day, Julian! I'd be tempted, maybe when I reach my 30s or something and have had more time to delve even further into the archives.
I have binged most of the October episodes this week and my best result so far is 33 points (and 3/3 for the artist) for the episode titled 'Jamiroquai, Queen and Sigrid', it really pays off to get all of the bonus points. Determined to achieve a full house one day somehow
Thanks for the explanation. I’ll keep trying this, it’s fun and I’m intrigued to see how I’ll usually do at it.
Cool must give the ones I miss a listen 😃
Scott Mills was always funny covering for Ken earlier this year as he sounded so nervous doing the legendary gig in place of Ken 😅
I ended up cheekily putting it on in the office after all
Dropped a bit today but still consistent across both:
Round 1: 24 (didn't get: the Dave Edmunds hits, Atlantic Starr hits, Randy Edelman hits, Aaron Neville feature)
Round 2: 24 (didn't get: Lena Zavaroni debut hit, post-Hopes & Fears Keane albums, Roger Miller hit, Sinitta hits)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (named 'It Must've Been Love', 'The Look' and 'Fading Like A Flower' in my head)
I thought I would be doomed with the Country category so was pleasantly surprised when I locked in that first bonus question
In way more impressive news, I finished catching up on October episodes and got a new personal best for the second set of questions in the episode titled 'Snap, McFly and Demi Lovato' - got 36 and all 3 for three-in-ten!! *.* so close.
Round 1 - 27 I didn't get Paul Anka, the year, Brian McFadden so between the two of us, we knew them all.
Round 2 - Only 15
I only got 1 for the name three hits, the same one the contestant said.
36 and 3 in ten is champion final level Jade!
It's all luck of the draw though. Sometimes I get everything right, mostly I get a few wrong.
Today I got the years wrong for both - it really helps to have aback catalogue of standard bearer track yeardates in your head and hope they are ones they mention! Personal memories associated with songs def help in most cases but the Michael jackson mention threw me off as I thought it was 2 years later due to a bad memory associated with it.
I also struggled with Keane album titles (and Ive bought 2 of the bloody things!) and that Delta Goodrem/McFadden song I had no memory of. But I reckon a certain Delta fan or 2 on BJ wouldve got it right off
It's pretty impressive when younger music fans go on and do well - it's easy to recall stuff from your teens and 20's as music forms such a backdrop to life at that age and the brain is buzzing, but older and newer music doesn't stick quite so much. It's rare I get anything from the 70's or 80s wrong, 60's and 90's mostly right, 00's and 10's it's less than half unless they are current/recent radio play tracks, I usually know them. They seem to have phased those questions out recently though, they always used to stick one in.
Today's effort...
First set: 27 points. Didn't get... Paul Anka, Atlantic Starr, Randy Eidleman (or however you spell it)
Second set: 30 points Didn't get... Lena Zavaroni, Roger Miller
Three in ten: Got it EASILY. Rattled off about 15 in a row
The thing is that I'd be sooooo good on so many acts but if I ever went on you could guarantee it would be some random 70s act that I don't know
The Sweet are Kens fav 70s go to act 😂
Trying the one from 16th November:
Round 1 - 27 - didn't know... 1974, The Ventures, KC & the Sunshine Band
Round 2 - 36 - didn't know... Delilah
3 in 10... EASY.
Maybe I should start listening again on BBC Sounds as I can rarely hear it live. With the years, there is often a song in there that I can pinpoint straight away. Other times, a song will trigger a memory. In each case, it is sometimes an exact year but it might just be a more vague period. One year out happens quite a lot! Occasionally, none of them will be much help, particularly if they are all by acts with a long chart career.
as an RAF child we were always moving so every place we lived is ingrained with memories of what music I was loving at that time, so I have a very long series of fixed-points through to around 1985 so always get those right. We moved to Poole in 1984 and that stopped when we stopped moving, so don't have so much in the way of joggers except holidays. Much harder!
Round 1: 18 (didn't get: Mud, James Bond theme, Prince/Blur/Good Charlotte song title - had a complete mind blank then kicked myself, The Coral)
Round 2: 36 (didn't get: Alvin Stardust)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Heart Skips A Beat, Dance With Me Tonight, Please Don't Let Me Go were the ones that came to mind)
Made up for that R1 dip by equalling my PB for R2 - noooo at the final question preventing a full house on that one
That's what I was like on the one I tried yesterday, I was so annoyed at not knowing the final question!
Round 1 - 12
Round 2 - 36 (didn't get Jennifer Hudson)
So round 1 seemed to be much more difficult for both of us and the woman who only scored 3 points. I wonder if I'll score as much as 36 again.
3 in 10 - I only thought of Troublemaker
21st November
Round 1 - 33 - didn't get... Mud
(she was really not at all good!!!) And yay for Propellerheads *.*
Round 2 - 36 - didn't get... Alvin Stardust, I felt your pain Jade
3 in 10 - Dance With Me Tonight, Heart Skips a Beat, Dear Darlin
I also didn;t get Jennifer Hudson, and The Coral, I knew 'em but couldnt get the names out!
oh and the year wrong 2009 I was one year out doh!
Isn't it strange how your brain associates things.. I got the year spot on, but only because I associate Black Eyed Peas as being the only challengers to come close to deny Lady Gaga her crown of being 2009's chart force.
I have a pretty encyclopaedic knowledge of 2000s Now albums so that came in handy today
Round 1: 24/39 - didn't get: Mud, The Coral, X Ray Specs
Round 2: 36/39 - didn't get: Alvin Stardust
^ oh wow we all really smashed yesterday's Round 2 *.*
Round 1: 15 (didn't get: Suede - oooops, 1980 - one year out!!, Silver Bullet Band, Hawkwind)
Round 2: 24 (didn't get: Walker Brothers - thought it sounded like the Mamas & Papas, 1986 - one year out again!!, The Move)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (A Little Time, Perfect 10, Rotterdam)
Not my best day, tanked by both bonus categories and one year out x2 was unfortunate </3
Round 1: 30 (didn't getSuede, Alicia Keys)
Round 2 : 36 (didn't get 1986, I put 1987)
3 in 10 - I think I would have named three songs by them but the man saying three so quickly distracted me.
I'm annoyed I missed a maximum score by getting a year from the 1980s wrong. I'm more certain of years from that decade than the 90s onwards.
I get a as I got the lot today - I had to guess the name of the band in round one but it sounded like a Simon fave so I had a go and it was
X-Ray Spex people should have got from Buzzjack the other month if they were in that semi (I do my best to help! ). I was pleased to see Cerrone Supernature made the itunes chart a couple of weeks back, but I didn't know why till I saw the advert the other day. Ignored for 43 years, one BJSC final and suddenly everyone wants it. I swear the media is following Buzzjack for tips....!
Well done on getting a double of maximum scores.
Impressive stuff both of you
hoping to do better tomorrow
Round 1: 27 (didn't get: 1993 - 1 year out again , The Corrs, Matt Bianco, Steeleye Span)
Round 2: 27 (didn't get: Chairman of the Board, A Taste of Honey
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Knowing Me Knowing You, The Winner Takes It All, Dancing Queen)
I summoned The Mamas and the Papas today
the A Taste of Honey miss was slightly annoying as I have heard that song a couple of times recently but just couldn't recall the artist
Yesterday
Round 1: 12 Kinky Boots (-3), Suede (-6), 1980 (-3) [guess: 1983], Silver Bullet Band [-3], Radar [-3], Ringo [-3] [guess: George], Hawkweed [-6]
Round 2: 27 1986 (-3) [guess: 1987], Fire Brigade (-6), The Sweet [-3]
Today
Round 1: 27 Curiosity Killed the Cat (-6), 1993 (-3) [guess: 1996], The Corrs [-3]
Round 2: 30 Chairman of the Bored (-6), The Bump (-3)
Jade you ought to familiarise yourself with Steeleye Span - All Around My Hat, its a great song (though am a tad biased for it being one of my mums faves)
Round 1 : 30 Didn't get Corrs, Matt Bianco, Steeleye Span
Round 2 : 27 Didn't get Chairmen Of The Board, A Taste Of Honey
I thought of Fiddler's Dram instead of Steeleye Span. I was getting Day Trip To Bangor mixed up with All Around My Hat, an easy mistake to make.
The 3 in 10 was an easy one today.
Round 1: 24 (didn't get: The Gibson Brothers - aw I love 'Cuba'!, Anita Baker - this is an annoying miss, Eurythmics - didn't recognise that clip at all
Round 2: 33 (didn't get: 1982 - two years out, The Selector
Three-in-Ten: 3 (It Wasn't Me, Angel, Boombastic)
Happy to be back in the 30s for a round the Shaky/Bonnie Tyler question was really good timing as I came across that song the other day in a video
good marks there! The first contestant got 3 points and she was insecure she'd even get that, but she took it with a laugh which is the right thing to do! Mind does go blank under pressure though!
I got the year wrong round 2 too (and I have no excuse whatsoever it was a decade I know!), and the last question round one
Round 1 : 27 Didn't get Madonna, Anita Baker, McFly
Round 2 : 27 Didn't get Vanessa Carlton, Will Young, Your Love
I got just two for the 3 in 10.
Round 1: 33 (didn't get: The Chi-Lites) - so hoped I'd be on to a full house today but that final bonus ruined it
Round 2: 33 (didn't get: Neighbours song 'Suddenly', 1972 - two years out)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (If You Had My Love, Love Don't Cost A Thing, Play)
3s aplenty very happy with today's across-the-board performance!
today I blanked on gary barlow hits and then the last word of No Good Advice and I could only drag up 2 of the 3 in 10 as I was trying to remember the name of my fave track by the artist. Doh! Plus side, the more recent hits I got.....
I've been on Popmaster twice, once when I was 19, and again in 2012. I didn't win either time, but still won a CD case and a "One Year Out" t-shirt respectively. One of the questions I got wrong was to complete the title of the Ultravox song "Reap The Wild...". I answered "Oats", which had Ken Bruce in stitches (the actual answer was "wind"). Also failed to recognise Jimmy Nail's "Ain't No Doubt", which is now forever etched in my mind. I've tried applying for it a few more times over the years since then with no luck, but would love a chance to try again just to win.
Round 1 : 27 Didn't get Debbie Gibson, Chi-Lites, Gary Barlow
Round 2 : 33 Didn't Get The year, Sub Sub
I couldn't think of anything for the 3 in 10.
Thursday
Round 1: 18/39
Rocking All Over the World (-3), Tarzan Boy (-3), The Gibson Brothers (-6), Anita Baker (-3) (I knew her first name was Anita!), Eurythmics (-6)
Round 2: 27/39
Shaken Stevens/Bonnie Tyler (-6), 1982 (-3), The Selector (-3),
Friday
Round 1: 27/39
1978 (-3), Debbie Gibson (-3), The Chi-Lites (-6)
Round 2: 33/39
1972 (-3), Gareth Gates (-3) [guessed Darius lol]
28/11/22
1st Rd 15/39 - got the first question wrong which is always a bad start! Guessed the first bonus question as they love working together!!
2nd Rd 21/39
Got 1 bonus in each round correct!!
3/3 in the 3/10 - One Kiss, Physical and Be The One!
Round 1: 27 (didn't get: Supertramp - an annoying miss, Janet Kay, Tears For Fears)
Round 2: 21 (didn't get: The Faces - said Rod, 1987 - 2 years out, The Supremes, Eternal, Jackie Graham/David Grant)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (New Rules, One Kiss, Don't Start Now)
Not my best day - pretty happy to have got that Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders bonus though, yay some knowledge for that decade coming through *.*
Round 1: 24
Janet Kay (-6), Tears for Fears (-3), Wayne Fontana and the Mind Benders (-6)
Round 2: 27
The Faces (-6) [I guessed Rod Stewart SMH], The Supremes (-3), Could it be I'm falling in love (-3)
Round 1 : 30 Didn't get James Blunt, Wayne Fontana
Round 2 : 30 Didn't get The Supremes, Little Richard
I said Chuck Berry instead of Little Richard, forgetting that the bonus question theme was Richards
I could only think of two for the 3 in 10.
missed it this morning for tennis so having a go now...
one wrong round one (the most recent chronologically question)
round two got the 2004 number 2 wrong! I have no memory whatsoever of it even though it apparently went top 20 for me Those brain cells obviously been overwritten or expired...
Round 1: 24
Elkie Brooks (-6), 2003 (-3) (guessed 2002), Crocodile Shoes (-3), Drowning in Berlin (-3)
Round 2: 21
Craig Douglas (-6), 1975 (guessed 1977) (-3), Andy Kim (-6), Evelyn King (-3)
Round 1: 27 (didn't get: Elkie Brooks - like the contestant I'm more familiar with the Berri version, 2003 - one year out, Mobiles)
Round 2: 21 (didn't get: Craig Douglas, 1975 - two years out, Andy Kim, Evelyn King) - ha, exact snap Dan!
Three-in-Ten: 2 (I Don't Want To Miss A Thing, Crazy, Dream On - forgot this hasn't charted here
Thought of Brett when the Jimmy Nail question popped up today
Round 1 : 39
Round 2 : 21 Didn't get Craig Douglas, Mock Turtles, Jess Glynne, Andy Kim
I wasn't quite sure for the year in round 1 but managed to guess it correctly. Chuffed to get a maximum for the first time.
I got three songs for the 3 in 10 as well.
Full marks round 1 and 2 wrong round 2. I have no memory of the 2018 hit and didnt know the real name of the 50s 60s singer
Congrats guys on the R1 full houses, very impressive
Round 1: 24
Pick Up the Pieces (-6), Parachutes (-3), Steel Wheels (-3), Nick Haywood (-3)
Round 2: 30
If the Kids are United (-6), Rachel Sweet (-3)
Round 1: 24 (didn't get: Average White Band, The Rolling Stones, Nick Heyward)
Round 2: 27 (didn't get: Hall & Oates, Sham 69, Rachel Sweet)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (All Rise, One Love, Fly By II)
Happy to have got the Johnny Kidd & The Pirates answer - I think 60s #1s and #2s are my best source of retro knowledge for the most part!
Did well there it was hard today! I got all the album titles wrong.
3 wrong round 1 2 wrong round 2. Is there an album called No Rent? Doh! No there isnt
Round 1 : 33 Didn't get Rolling Stones album
Round 2 : Only 15. I knew Johnny Kidd but couldn't think of his backing group
Find it very difficult cos of the oldies questions, I know most questions post 1987 but nothing from the 70s and early 80s
Round 1: 30 (didn't get: Liquid Gold, Simply Red)
Round 2: 27 (didn't get: Bruce Springsteen, Stray Cats, The Sweet)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Creep, No Surprises, Pyramid Song) - this artist choice
Happy with that! Breathed a sigh of relief when the final bonus in R2 was a Beatles album
Round 1: 30
Liquid Gold (-6), 1984 (-3), Stephanie Mills (-3)
Round 2: 21
Bruce Springsteen (-6), Roxy Music (-6), Stray Cats (-3), The Sweet (-3),
I scored the same as yesterday for both rounds.
Round 1 - 33 Didn't get Blur, Simply Red
Round 2 - 15
I got 3 songs for the 3 in 10.
Round 1: 18 (didn't get: Alison Moyet - had a complete mind blank oops, The Eels, Natalie Imbruglia, House of Love, The Human League - an annoying miss )
Round 2: 36 (didn't get: Heatwave)
Three-in-Ten: 1 (could only think of 'You Can Call Me Al' on the spot)
+ knew both of the tiebreak answers
Once again prevented from a full house in a round by the final question!! most satisfied with the Sparks answer today - tune.
That disparity between rounds R2 was definitely more well-suited to my knowledge, but I do think my mind was less sharp for R1 anyway as I played straight off the back of a brain-melting task at work, like I couldn't even fill in the blank with a guess in R1 for the Alison one, but for R2 I got the Jamiroquai question by doing just that.
'Frozen' as the post-PopMaster song today have a good weekend all
Round 1 : 27 Didn't get Eels, Feeling, Natalie Imbruglia
Round 2 : 27 Didn't get The year, Victoria Beckham, Sparks, Heatwave
3 in 10 - You Can Call Me Al, Mother And Child Reunion, The Boy In The Bubble
I'm one of the few on Buzzjack who wouldn't be able to get the year right when it's 2021.
Missed yesterdays but well done all 1 I came in halfway through round 1 today and did badly! Round 2 also not great.
Re easiest 3 in 10, not pet shop boys, it was abba. Is there anyone that couldnt name 3 abba songs? id say a basic qualification for going on popmaster is the ability to name 3 songs by abba, if you cant do that youre on the wrong quiz!
I've been playing the last 3/4 days and today I got my highest (a score of 33)
but for me it totally depends if there's 70s questions, very unlikely to get those unless it'a an ABBA question
the final question also depends on how recent the act, like yesterday I could tell you 15 but today just 1.
Listening to old episodes I'm amazed how most people fail at very recent stuff
You'd think everybody could name 3 Dua Lipa songs!!!
It's sheer panic! The titles get stuck in between brain neurons on the way out unless it's something old and familiar. Like struggling to find a word that you know but just wont come, or the name of that bloke who plays Rocket raccoon and duetted with gaga, you know, him, Bradley Walsh. Cooper! I mean Cooper.
guess there's part of that, but at also a bit of lack of knowledge x recent music
like there was a guy now (I was listening to an old show) that didn't know who had a #1 with Perfect in 2017? I mean they know all those obscure 70s singers and they don't know Ed Sheeran?
I'm the same. If I look at a singles chart from the 70s, I can still remember the chorus of most of the ones I haven't heard since that time.
I could also tell you the result of every FA Cup Final from the 70s. I wouldn't be able to remember the result of any FA Cup Final from the last ten years even though I watched them all.
Friday
Round 1: 24
Eels (-6), House of Love (-6), Human League (-3) - boo at the "house music" theme having nothing to do with actual house music
Round 2: 33
Sparks (-3), Heat Wave (-3)
Round 1: 21 (didn't get: 1995 - one year out, Georgie Fame, Hazel O'Connor, Barry Blue)
Round 2: 30 (didn't get: Manfred Mann, New Kids On The Block)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Why, No More I Love You's, Little Bird)
The Manfred Mann miss was slightly annoying as I've come across the artist/title combination recently when browsing through charts from that decade, ah well!
Happy to have pulled the Jack Peñate answer out of the bag, was anticipating Just Jack when the year was mentioned.
today a bit better, Round 1: got the year wrong, Round 2: forgot Cover Girl title and had no idea who was singing Jack Penate Prob would have done better with the song title, oops!
Got the 3 in 10 though
Round 1: 18
Kiss - Crazy Nights (-3), 1995 (guessed 1996) (-3), Georgie Fame (-6), Hazel O'Connor (-3), Barry Blue (-6)
Round 2: 24
Manfred Mann (-6), John Cougar (-6), NKOTB - Cover Girl (-3)
There were some tough questions today.
Round 1 : 21 Didn't get Year, Amy Winehouse, Georgie Fame, Barry Blue
Round 2 : 18 Didn't get Year, John Cougar, Blue, Jack Pinate, New Kids On The Block
I should have got John Cougar but couldn't remember his name
did 18 and 21, missed all the 60-70-early 80s questions, which were a lot today
the final 3 questions was easy, I managed to name 9
Round 1: 21 (didn't get: The Style Council, Kiri Te Kanawam, The Stranglers, Tom Tom Club - I only know 'Genius of Love' by them)
Round 2: 24 (didn't get: Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Ultravox - 'Hymn' is an annoying miss)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Sherry, December 1963 (Oh, What A Night), Beggin')
Only realised today that top 75 hits will suffice for three-in-ten and that it's not limited to top 40
Round 1 : 30 Didn't get The year, The Stranglers
Round 2 : 21 Didn't get Lenny Kravitz, Stevie Wonder, Lady Gaga, Temptations
Jade, I think you'd like Wordy Rappinghood by The Tom Tom Club It's quite quirky.
Round 1: 21
Style Council (-6), World In Union (-3), Stranglers (-3), Tom Tom Club (-6)
Round 2: 15
Blowin in the Wind (-6), Don't Leave Me This Way (-6), Kate Bush (-3), Temptations (-6), Ultravox (-3)
I didn't get Kiri Te Kanawa and I was expecting nobody to get it - but Rollo did! well done!
Î knew that one too thought it was an ok question
Didn't do very well today, 24 and 24, too many oldies questions, especially the Motown ones
Didn't get the 3 either, most difficult I've heard so far, I couldn't name you one
In terms of 3-in-10s I think the toughest one for me when catching up was Deacon Blue (could only name 1) and agree with those who said ABBA was the easiest so far
Deacon Blue would be easy for me, was quite the fan, just tried and I can name all their singles in chronological order
Round 1: 21
Holly Johnson (-3), 1991 (guessed 1990) (-3), Sarah Brightman (-3), Small Faces (-6), Ocean Colour Scene (-3)
Round 2: 27
Donna Summer (-3), Lulu (-6), Egyptian Reggae (-3)
Round 1: 36 (didn't get: Ocean Colour Scene)
Round 2: 33 (didn't get: ’State of Independence’ - annoying miss, ‘Egyptian Reggae’)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Round Round, Freak Like Me, About You Now)
The final question on R1 preventing me from 39 once again! some of the knowledge in that one was very recently acquired, I knew ’Starship Trooper’ due to a recent retro TOTP airing and I only knew the Holly Johnson song title from one of the weekly Album #1s sessions! The singles chart #1s questions were right up my street. <3
Very happy with that today!
^we should play together cos the one you missed in R1 was one of the very few I knew from R1
but I knew I was gonna fail when I heard the theme
so I got 15 for R1 and 30 for R2
final question was borderline too easy, I managed to name 20
Round 1 : 33 Didn't get Small Faces
Round 2 : 15 Didn't get Lulu, the year, Gladys Knight, Kaiser Chiefs, C&C Music, Mumford & Sons
I knew most of the ones I didn't get for round 2 but couldn't think of the answer in time.
ooh everyone did very well today!
I got the year wrong on round 2, doh! I got the 3 in 10 though my mind went blank at first! The difference between doing it at home and on the radio is quite huge though, as they both found out today Always say "I hope to get more than 9" and cross your fingers
Round 1: 36 (didn't get: Nick Kamen - guessed the same as the contestant)
Round 2: 30 (didn't get: Crash Test Dummies country, The Tourists)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (You're Beautiful, 1973, Goodbye My Lover)
Are you kidding me, the last question prevented me from a 39 AGAIN I thought the stars were going to align today when I even got the Alvin Stardust question right, after missing this artist before
I have the first U.K. Now album to thank for knowing the year in R1!
Unlucky, Jade. I didn't know it either.
Round 1 : 27 Didn't get The Hollies, Ronan Keating, Nick Kamen
Round 2 : 27 Didn't Get Crash Test Dummies, the year, Kula Shaker
well done both! I got the year wrong round 2 - One Year Out as usual and I didnt get time to name 2 of the 3 in 10's before she'd banged them off. I would have got 2 I think....
Round 1: 24 (didn't get: Take That - really should've got this but was too slow before she'd answered, 10cc, Los Bravos, Culture Club)
Round 2: 15 (didn't get: Simon & Garfunkel, 1973 - 4 years out, The Edgar Winter Group, Tori Amos, 'I Want Your Love')
Three-in-Ten: 3 (500 Miles, Sunshine on Leith, King of the Road)
Quite the step down from my last couple of days! I was most satisfied to have been able to name 3 songs off the top of my head by The Proclaimers today.
Round 1 : 24 Didn't get Los Bravos, the year, Sam Sparrow
Round 2 : 27 Didn't get The year, Edgar Winter, I Want Your Love
I only managed to think of two for the 3 in 10.
Thursday
Round 1: 27
The Hollies (-6), 1983 (-3), Nick Kamen (-3)
Round 2: 18
Roxy Music (-3), Samantha Mumba (-6), Kula Shaker (-3), Sugar Cubes (-6), The Tourists (-3)
Friday
Round 1: 33
Los Bravos (-6),
Round 2: 27
1973 (-3), Tori Amos (-6), I Want Your Love (-3)
Round 1: 24 (didn't get: Wizzard - oops said Slade , Chris Spedding, Toyah)
Round 2: 21 (didn't get: Elvis, Sheryl Crow, Charlie Rich, Brother Beyond)
Three-in-Ten: 2 (My Sweet Lord, Got My Mind Set On You - oops had a complete mind-blank after those)
Didn't do too well with the bonus categories today
These questions weren't good for me either.
Round 1 : 24 Didn't get Bobby Brown, the year, Chris Spedding, Mariah Carey
Round 2 : 15 Didn't get Elvis, Sheryl Crow, the year, Charlie Rich, Good Charlotte
I said the same two as you for the 3 in 10 plus When We Was Fab, my Jeff Lynne knowledge helping me on the third one
Round 1: 21
2001 (-3), Chris Spedding (-6), Toyah (-3), Suzi Quatro (-6) - and Mariah Carey was a lucky guess at the end
Round 2: 21
Elvis Presley (-6), Sheryl Crow (-3), Charlie Rich (-6), Brother Beyond (-3)
oh I almost got a perfect score last Friday, end up on 36, failed the last question about Tourists
I know the band but couldn't recall the name of the single
Round 1: 9 (didn't get: The Maisonettes, 1985 - one year out, Genesis, David Bowie, Deodato, The Nolans, Dawn Penn)
Round 2: 21 (didn't get: The Who, Tears For Fears, Jigsaw)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Bleeding Love, A Moment Like This, Footprints In The Sand)
Round 1 was a disaster got the first two so that was a false sense of security! Recognised both the Maisonettes and Dawn Penn songs but had no idea on the artist names
Round 2 better but not particularly spectacular either, another day of failing the bonus questions
Round 1 - 15 Didn't get Maisonettes, Deodato, David Bowie, Dawn Penn, Kelis
Round 2 - 18 Didn't get The Who, John Legend, Michael Buble, Jigsaw, No Doubt
Another bad day for me, I should have remembered The Maisonettes
I did manage to think of three songs for the 3 in 10.
Im finally in gran canaria after flight got cancelled yesterday at gatwick airport and had to rebook this afternoon so ive missed popmaster since friday. Hopefully i can catch up as it sounds like the fab heartache avenue featured. That band also featured a member of city boy who had a 1978 hit with the great 5705
I couldn’t bloody remember their name and it’s a great song!
Round 1: 12 (worst round yet ouch)
The Maisonettes (-6), 1985 (-3), Deodato (-6), Sorrow (-3), The Nolans (-3), Dawn Penn (-6)
Round 2: 21
The Who (-6), Tears for Fears (-6), Jigsaw (-6)
(lost all the bonuses!)
Round 1 : 27 Didn't get The year, Jamie T, Hall & Oates
Round 2 : 21 Didn't get Cliff Richard, the year, Tina Turner, Jive Bunny, Cher
Round 1: 27 (didn't get: 1983 - 4 years out, Pet Shop Boys - thought 'Flamboyant' sounded familiar but she was too fast for me, Evelyn Thomas, Hall & Oates - guessed 'You Make My Dreams')
Round 2: 30 (didn't get: Cliff Richard, Cher )
Three-in-Ten: 1 (When You're In Love With a Beautiful Woman) - also remembered 'A Little Bit More' but was too late
Glad Ken corrected the Paul McCartney question as I was so confused
Round 1: 27
1979 (-3), Pet Shop Boys (-3), Evelyn Thomas (-3), Simply Red/Hall & Oates (-3),
Round 2: 27
Cliff Richard (-6), Tina Turner (-3), Cher (-3)
Round 1 : 30 Didn't get Everly Brothers, Three Degrees
Round 2 : 33 Didn't get The year, The Killers
A better day today. I think I would have thought of The Killers in the time allowed but the woman said the answer quickly.
The 3 in 10 was very easy for me today.
Round 1: 21
Everly Brothers (-6), 1981 (-3), For Your Eyes Only (-6), Three degrees (-3),
Round 2: 30
1976 (-3), Alison Moyet (-3), Annie Lennox (-3)
Round 1: 18 (didn't get: Everly Brothers, 1981 - 4 years out, Manics, ‘For Your Eyes Only’ - forgot about the bonus theme oops, The Three Degrees)
Round 2: 30 (didn't get: 1976 - 2 years out, Alison Moyet, The Carpenters)
Three-in-Ten: 2 I’m Not In Love, Dreadlock Holiday - was trying to remember their other #1 but was having a mind-blank!
Round 1 : 18 Didn't get Katie Melua, the year, The Fortunes, Big Mountain, Cast
Round 2 : 24 Didn't get Beverly Knight, Lukas Graham, Simple Minds, Shaznay Lewis
I managed to think of three songs for the 3 in 10.
Round 1: 21 (didn't get: McFadden & Whitehead, The Fortunes, Bucks Fizz, Cast)
Round 2: 21 (didn't get: 1993 - 6 years out oops, Billy Joel, Spandau Ballet, Simple Minds)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Banana Republic, I Don't Like Mondays, Rat Trap)
I was lucky to have heard 'Banana Republic' on a retro TOTP repeat recently!
Im back today with popmaster on my phone, yay!
39 round one, then got a 50/50 wrong with All Saints solo hit. Doh!
wow the first contestant yesterday, in truth he got a 0
did a 27 and then 18, missing all the 70s and early 80s questions as usual
Round 1: 15 (didn't get: The Pretenders - an annoying miss but was too slow, 1978 - 3 years out, Suzanne Vega - ahhh another annoying miss, Brand New Heavies, Chris Rea - omg wrong one I said Chris De Burgh , Climie Fisher)
Round 2: 27 (didn't get: Argent, Bon Jovi, Mai Tai)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Manic Monday, Walk Like An Egyptian, Eternal Flame)
Good timing for that 'Endless Love' question after it was played yesterday at the UK Albums #1 session!
Finally got round to trying this!
Round 1: 39 points: wasn't 100% sure on Brand New Heavies for Apparently Nothin', but knew it couldn't be Young Disciples with that many Top 40 hits
Round 2: 30 points couldn't think of the name of Hard-Fi in time, and didn't know the Mai Tai one
Three in ten: 3 Eternal Flame, Manic Monday, If She Knew What She Wants
Wow Jim you should apply! I’m leaving it a few years while I train up haha.
Very impressive debut in this thread, Jim *.* well done
36 and 30, missed the 3 questions about the 70s as usual, could have got a perfect score otherwise
the 3 ones was super easy too
Round 1 : 30 Didn't get The year, Brand New Heavies
Round 2 : 30 Didn't get Hard Fi, Rihanna
I'm not sure I would have got the Mariah Carey/Luther Vandross song if we hadn't heard it at the session yesterday.
I got three songs for the 3 in 10.
I only miss the year in the 1st round, which sucks cos I usually always get it but today it was pre-80s so impossible for me
Friday:
Round 1: 30
The Fortunes (-6), Bucks Fizz (-3),
Round 2: 21
Elton John (-6), 1987 (-3), Billy Joel (-3), Simple Minds (-6)
Monday:
Round 1: 24
1978 (-3), Suzanne Vega (-3), Brand New Heavies (-3), Luther Vandross (-3), Climie Fisher (-3)
Round 2: 21
Proclaimers (-3), Hard-Fi (-3), Argent (-6), Bon Jovi (-3), Mai Tai (-3)
When is it doing the best of competition? Next week?
It’s usually all this week so mustn’t have had as many big scorers this year!
15/39 and 21/39 in ydays one!
Round 1: 33 - didn't get Walker Brothers
Round 2: 33 - didn't get the year (said 1985!) or the Cliff/Olivia duet
Three in ten: 3 Country House, Beetlebum, Song 2
Round 1: 30 (didn't get: The Walker Brothers - oops said the Righteous Brothers, Simply Red)
Round 2: 21 (didn't get: The Isley Brothers, 1984 - one year out, Cliff/Olivia, Erykah Badu)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Girls & Boys, Coffee & TV, Parklife)
Happy to have got The Manhatten Transfer when that decade is usually the toughest for me
Round 1 : 39
Round 1 : 30 Didn't get Erica Badu, Maroon 5
Happy to get my second 39! I only got the Walker Brothers because I thought it sounded like them.
I got 3 songs for the 3 in 10.
30, 27 today, they got me with the Mapsquestion, my answer was the same as the lady
top 3 was almost too easy
crazy how well the lady did today in the main questions and then how badly he did in the 3 in 10
Champions league started today!
Scoring is now 1 point for Q1, and so on up to 10 points for Q10 in each round. These were really hard!
Round 1: 20 - didn't get The Look (3), Cavatina (5), Bill Medley (8), Bourgeois Tag (9), Daisy Chainsaw (10)
Round 2: 21 - didn't get 1982 (4), Matt Monro (5), Voice Of The Beehive (7), Photograph - ran out of time (8), Suzi Quatro (10)
There isn't a three in ten at this stage.
Champions League Day 1:
Round 1: 3 (got: Q1+2) oh dear probably should've got Iris Williams as that was on a 70s TOTP not too long ago
Round 2: 17 (got: Q1+2+6+8) - double figures, I'll take it! thank you Now 49 for allowing me to get the 6 pointer.
Thought it would be easier to list what I did get. well and truly humbled by my first Champions League attempt!
Felt slightly more validated helping out my colleagues with a Christmas music quiz just now
Round 1 : 13 - I got questions 1,3 and 9 correct
Round 2 : 12 - I got questions 1,2,4 and 5 correct
I'm annoyed I couldn't think of the Barry Biggs song in round 2. That would have boosted my score for that round.
did pretty well on the 1st one, but then 2nd was too 70s, there were almost no questions about post 1990 music

Getting the (easy-peasy) Daisy Chainsaw question and the Barry Biggs one helped to boost my scores
Just had a go at todays, got 36 round 1 questions 2, 7, 10 wrong, and 41 round 2, 6 and 8 wrong. Oooo get me.
Great scores yesterday PCF!
Round 1 today: 31 - didn't get Shindig (3), 1975 - 1 year out (4), Communards (8), Larry Carlton - I also guessed Gary Moore (9)
Round 2: 23 - didn't get Sting (2), Manhattans (5), Prince & Sheena Easton (6), Doobie Brothers (9), Dr and The Medics (10)
Champions League Day 2:
Round 1: 23 (x-2-x-x-5-6-x-x-x-10) ~ happy to have broken into the 20s today!
Round 2: 5 (1-x-x-4-x-x-x-x-x-x) ~ meh x
The Shadows miss was a bit annoying as I do know that song. My early 2000s Now! knowledge shone through again with the Kym Marsh question
Very happy that we had a timely reminder of Sky at the #1 Album sessions not too long ago as I would've only known Bach otherwise.
Gutted that neither contestant chose the Beatles Covers specialist option as that would've, in theory, been ideal for me
^similar scores, I thought it was very hard today, especially the 2nd one
Round 1: 21 (x-2-x-x-5-x-7-8-x-x)
Round 2: 5 (1-x-x-4-x-x-x-x-x-x)
Very difficult for me today.
Round 1 - 5 (Q5)
Round 1 - 7 (Q3 & 4)
I knew Sky but couldn't think of Bach as the composer
Tuesday:
Round 1: 30 - Walker Brothers (-6), Simply Red (-3)
Round 2: 24 - 1984 (-3), Martika (-3), Cliff Richard (-3), Erica Badoo (-6)
Wednesday:
Round 1: 06 - only knew the first 3
Round 2: 09 - got the first one and the Nickelback/Ed Sheeran link
Thursday:
Round 1: 08 - got the first two and Sugababes
Round 2: 01 - Lol
Final today!
Round 1: 16 - didn't get Gerry Rafferty (2), Someone Like You - he was too quick (5), Europe - went for Carrie (6), Kym Mazelle - too quick again (7), Los Lobos (9), the TV theme (10) but at least I got the year (forgot what Q8 was now).
Round 2: 15 - didn't get Gilbert O'Sullivan (1), David Soul (3), 1992 - 1 year out (4), Dennis Waterman (6), John Miles (7), Yin and Yan (9), Cheri (10) but have Rollo's 80s synth contest entry to thank for Q2.
What a great choice of post-Pop Master song today
Round 1 : 1 - I only got the first question
Round 2 : 12 - I got questions 2, 3 and 7 right.
Champions League Final:
Round 1: 12 (1-x-3-x-x-x-x-8-x-x) ~ I was one year out for the 4 pointer Q8 was Paula Cole Jim, love that song
Round 2: 5 (x-x-x-x-5-x-x-x-x-x) ~ said David Cassidy instead of David Soul
Listening on catch-up so missed the post-Popmaster song but I think I know what it is after scrolling through Twitter just now and seeing a couple of lines from it quoted
Did really well on R1, got 30, they even asked about my fav song of the 90s Paula Cole
R2 much worse, just 9, but most questions were pre-1985 :/ of course I didn't get any of those Detective questions
although I knew one was the guy from Starsky and Hutch
Round 1: 11 - first three and Someone Like You
Round 2: 05 - Looking for Love
Semi 2 i got 20 for round 1, missing out on 3, 5, 9 and 10 and one word wrong for title in 8, doh!
Round 2 34 points, much better, 4, 7 and 8 wrong and he was too fast with answer for 2 which i knew.
Final: round 1 got 28 points, 3, 4, 5, 6 wrong and missed half of the title for 9 doh!
Round 2 was 27 points 4, 6 and 8 wrong and didnt quite get the nsme right for 10.
I did give the duo pisstake of Telly Savalas If a link a few weeks back in the worst number ones votes so if you didnt get that go back to the thread and play it as penance still amusing
Almost forgot this was on today back to the usual format.
Round 1: 24 (didn't get: The Jam, Melissa Manchester, The Dooleys)
Round 2: 21 (didn't get: 1977 - two years out, Peter Noone, Vicky Leandros, Melba Moore)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Babylon, This Year's Love, The One I Love)
Some tough stuff! Glad I managed to recall three for today's 3-in-10 artist as I've never listened to an album of theirs before despite my parents owning their biggest one, I really should.
I was going to catch up with last week's episodes but thought that it might not be the best time to jump in with the Champions League thing happening - so starting from today instead (I played Wednesday through Friday of the week before that, I won't post the breakdowns from those episodes but I scored 18/18, 12/21 and 15/12, so no great scores yet but also nothing super embarrassing. Though I have been doing pretty miserably so far in the 3 in 10 round, tbf I think they have been quite difficult ones so far but also my brain just goes directly to mush every time
)
Round 1: 18 (missed 1988 (-3), 'Lullaby' (-3), 'Down In The Tube Station At Midnight' (-6), Melissa Manchester (-6), The Dooleys (-3))
Round 2: 18 (missed Earth, Wind & Fire (-3), 1977 (-3), Peter Noone (-6), Vicky Leandros (-6), Melba Moore (-3))
3 in 10: 1/3 ('Babylon' is the only one I know / could recall, I had a punt at 'White Ladder' in the hope the title track was a hit too, but then I couldn't even think of a guess for a third one lol so it wouldn't have mattered even if that was correct)
Well I remain consistently mediocre at least! I think I could have pushed to a 24 in round 1 there - I definitely should have got 'Lullaby' as I know all 3 of the songs of that title lmao but I misheard Sigala as Sigma and thought 'Changing' instead, of course they both have to have a song with Paloma Faith :') and I said 1987 for the year so my first 'one year out' moment x. Maybe also a 21 in round 2 could have been possible, I guessed Chic for the Earth, Wind & Fire question, close enough x Was a bit further out with the year this time as I guessed 1971 but correct decade at least! Never would have got any of the others, a bunch of names I don't recognise.
Didn’t actually think they’d do this during Xmas so must listen again!
PopMaster never rests
I also didn't know it was going to be on this week. I've just done it now.
Round 1 : 24 Didn't get The year, Melissa Manchester, The Dooleys
Round 2 : 27 Didn't get Peter Noone, Vicki Leandros
I could only think of Babylon for the 3 in 10.
Welcome bre pretty good start there!
I had some issues with Spoony pronunciation mishearing what number 1 did band A20 have
27 round 1 got the last 2 Night questions wrong.
39 round 2
Didnt get 3 in 10. Panic sets in...😆
^ well done on the perfect 39, PFC. + welcome to the thread Bré *.*
Round 1: 18 (didn't get: The Band, Robbie Robertson, Richard Blackwood, Alison Moyet, Diana Ross)
Round 2: 21 (didn't get: Mike Read, 1972 (also was drawn to 1977 for some reason like the contestant oops ), 'Far Far Away', Marti Webb)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (I Feel Love, Love To Love You Baby, Hot Stuff)
I own Donna Summer's Greatest Hits so that was a good retro 3-in-10 pick for me!
Very tough rounds today, I don't think I got anything at all in the second one
Round 1 : 24 Didn't get The Band, Richard Blackwood, Diana Ross
Round 2 : 27 Didn't Get Mike Read, the third Slade question - he didn't tell us what the answer was but I didn't know it
3 in 10 - 3 I Feel Love, McArthur Park, This Time I Know It's For Real
Can I catch this online without having to go through the entire show? I’d like to join in!
Oh that’s great! I’ll do this one later tonight!
are they making the questions more difficult? very though ones x the last 2 days
and even more oldies questions than usual
Round 1: 21 points
Round 2: 9 points
3 in ten: I Feel Love, She Works Hard For The Money, Bad Girls
Yesterday's episode
Round 1: 27 - didn't get 1988 - 1 year out (3), Melissa Manchester (6), Dooleys (3)
Round 2: 30 - didn't get 1977 - 2 years out (3), Vicky Leandros (6)
Three in ten: 3, same ones the contestant said - Babylon, This Year's Love, Sail Away
Today's episode
Round 1: 27 - didn't get The Band (6), Robbie Robertson (3), Alison Moyet (3)
Round 2: 24 - didn't get Mike Read (6), 1972 - 1 year out (3), Far Far Away (6)
Three in ten: 3 - I Feel Love, State Of Independence, On The Radio
Round 1: 36 - out by 1 with the year! Said 1981
Round 2: 39
Three in ten: 3 Rocket Man, Crocodile Rock, Candle In The Wind
So close to a perfect day!
Great scores, Jim.
Round 1 : 30 Didn't get Elastica, Britney Spears
Round 2 : 30 Didn't get The year, Ed Sheeran
3 in 10 : 3 Your Song, Candle In The Wind, Rocket Man
Round 1: 30 Didn’t get the year, Gloria Estefan or the band.
Round 2: 27 Didn’t get A-ha’s number 1, Elbow, Life In a Northern Town, Wheels on fire.
3 in 10: Something About The Way You Look Tonight, Candle In The Wind, I’m Still Standing
Edit: I thought the bonus questions were 6 points each oops!
what happened today? questions suddenly were much much easier than the last coule days
also the 3 in 10 couldn't be easier
got 36 in the 1st round and 30 in the 2nd, only failed the year in the 1st one
Sade is a band not a female solo singer btw
Round 1: 36 (didn't get: Elastica)
Round 2: 36 (didn't get: The Who)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Step Into Christmas, Crocodile Rock, Rocket Man)
SO CLOSE x2
FABULOUS bonus round themes today *.* great to see us collectively doing so well.
That 'This Wheel's On Fire' promo while the #5s rate is running in the chart forum
We also had a question about a recent Suedeonia BJSC entry today.
Beat my high score in round 1 and then beat it again in round 2! I see we all did well today so pretty accessible questions for the BuzzJack demographic I guess. Round 2 today was my first time getting all 3 of the bonus questions correct.
Round 1: 27 (missed Sade (-6), 1980 (-3), Elastica (-3))
Round 2: 30 (missed Roxette (-3), 2002 (-3), The Who (-3))
3 in 10: 3/3 ('Crocodile Rock', 'Rocket Man (I Think It's Going To Be A Long, Long Time)', 'Are You Ready For Love')
The year questions are really proving to be an Achilles heel for me as I expected, I'm dreadful at recalling years - my guesses were 1975 and 2001, respectively 5 years and 1 year out with one being in the wrong decade again whoops. Roxette was an annoying miss as I confused 'The Look' with 'The Look Of Love' so my immediate thought was ABC - I knew it was wrong but I couldn't get it out of my head in time to get the right answer before the contestant said it grr!
Otherwise, Gloria Estefan was a lucky guess and I only knew 'This Wheel's On Fire' due to Jade being a fan haha. Kursaal Flyers appearing was iconic too, though I think I could have guessed that answer even if I didn't know the song from BJSC.
"When she finished her laundry / She was all in a quandry" - as rhyming couplets go, that's up there with "Ossie's going to Wembley / His knees have gone all trembly"
Round 1: 36 - didn't get Bryan Ferry
Round 2: 30 - didn't get the year - 1 out (said 1987), Glen Campbell
Three in ten: 1 - only got You're So Vain, should have remembered Nobody Does It Better and Why
Round 1: 33 (didn't get: Westworld, Bryan Ferry)
Round 2: 30 (didn't get: 1986 (two years out), Glen Campbell)
Three-in-Ten: 1 ('You're So Vain')
The Glam Rock bonus category went way better for me than expected thanks to all of the questions involving chart-toppers
Today I learned that there was a hit cover version of Honeycombs - 'Have I The Right'! I love the original.
I discovered 'Rock On' by David Essex quite recently so that was good timing.
Round 1 : 30 Didn't get The year, Bryan Ferry, Sophie Ellis Bextor
Round 2 : 24 Didn't get The year, Glen Campbell, Mariah Carey
I was one year out on both years today.
3 in 10 : 2 You're So Vain, Why
Round 1: 27 points. Didn’t get 1990, Sonic Boom Boy, Can The Can, The Duran Duran order, Bryan Ferry
Round 2: 18 points. didn’t get The Honeycombs, Ian Dury and the Blockheads, 1986, Return To Innocence, Return To Honey
3 in 10: 1/3 You’re so Vain!
Difficult today!
Round 1: 27 (missed 1990 (-3), 'Sonic Boom Boy' (-3), Bryan Ferry (-3), Sophie Ellis-Bextor (-3))
Round 2: 18 (missed Ian Dury & The Blockheads (-3), The Honeycombs (-6), 1986 (-3), 'Honey Come Back' (-6), David Essex (-3))
3 in 10: 2/3 ('You're So Vain', 'Son Of A Gun (I Betcha Think This Song Is About You)')
Tough one for the 3 in 10 - I kinda thought she was a one hit wonder oops (and the second one I got was just a feature that sampled 'You're So Vain' haha).
I got the same score as the contestant in both rounds today!
My failed guesses at the years today were 1987 and 1982, 3 and 4 years out. I really thought MC Hammer was late 80s whoops. Other than that the only miss that I'm really kicking myself over is Sophie, that was a mind blank moment. Impressed that I managed to get both of the 'put these songs in order of release' questions right!
Looks like I was the only one to get Bryan Ferry
Round 1: 30 - didn't get the Nazareth song title, Charlie Rich. I got Lynn Anderson - great song, although Kon Kan - I Beg Your Pardon which samples it is even better (and also a #5). Oops at Spoony playing Smokey Robinson instead of the first country song Also the question about Beautiful Liar made me think of the recent thread where it was suggested as one of Rihanna's best songs
Round 2: 30 - didn't get the year - 1 out(said 1976), the first Supremes hit (said Baby Love)
Three in ten: 3 Common People, Disco 2000, Do You Remember The First Time?
Round 1: 27 (didn't get: Nazareth, Paul Weller, Charlie Rich)
Round 2: 27 (didn't get: 1977 (two years out), Stevie Wonder, The Whispers)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Common People, Sorted for E's & Wizz, Disco 2000) - snap with the contestant
I'll happily take 2/3 on the Country Hits bonus round which I thought would be a nightmare!
I only knew that Supremes answer because I recently did a marathon of Billboard Hot 100 #1s and remembered that one came first.
Round 1 : 12 Didn't getJohnny Cash, the year, Nazareth, Lynn Anderson, Paul Weller, Charlie Rich
Round 2 : 18 Didn't get Smokey Robinson, Supremes, Corrs, Stevie Wonder
A bad day, I didn't get any of the bonus questions. I should have known Lynn Anderson and Tears Of A Clown but I just couldn't think of them.
3 in 10 : 3 Common People, Sorted For Es and Whizz, This Is Hardcore
Monday:
Round 1: 27
the year (-3), Melissa Manchester (-6), the Dooleys (-3)
Round 2: 21
the year (-3), Peter Noon (-6), Vicky Leandross (-6), Melba Moore (-3)
Tuesday:
Round 1: 24
The Band (-3), Robbie Robertson (-3), the year (-3), Alison Moyet (-3), Diana Ross (-3)
Round 2: 18
Modern Romance (-3), Mike Reed (-6), the year (-3), Slade (-6), Marty Webb (-3)
Wednesday:
Round 1: 24
Sade (-6), the year (-3), Gloria Estefan (-3), Elastica (-3)
Round 2: 30
the year (-3), This Wheel's On Fire (-6)
Thursday:
Round 1: 30
the year (-3), Westworld (-3), Bryan Ferry (-3)
Round 2: 18
The Honeycombs (-6), Glen Campbell (-6), Mmamriah Carey (-6), David Essex (-3)
Friday:
Round 1: 18
Johnny Cash (-6), This Flight Tonight (-3), Lyn Anderson (-6), Charlie Rich (-6)
Round 2: 30
The Supremes (-6), The Corrs (-3)
Round 1: 15 points Didn’t get Johnny Cash, Lynn Anderson, The Joni Mitchell song, Paul Weller, Behind Closed Doors
Round 2: 18 points Didn’t get Smokey Robinson (6), 1977 (3), Where Did Our Love Go (6), Living For The City (6)
3 in 10: Only got 1 Common People
Round 1: 15 (missed Johnny Cash (-6), 'This Flight Tonight' (-3), Lynn Anderson (-6), Paul Weller (-3), 'Behind Closed Doors' (-6))
Round 2: 18 (missed 1977 (-3), 'Where Did Our Love Go' (-6), The Corrs (-3), 'Living For The City' (-6), The Whispers (-3)
3 in 10: 3/3 ('Common People', 'Disco 2000', 'Mis-Shapes')
A few annoying misses today - The Corrs I definitely should have got and then a couple that I'd have got if I retained information better from the #1 albums sessions whoops - Paul Weller's song was literally played at the last session! I blame it having a generic title. And I know The Supremes one was track 1 on a greatest hits collection from them which I think was chronological, but alas could not recall the title. And then Lynn Anderson was a similar one to Robbie Robertson where I know the song from my mum being a fan but the artist name escaped me unfortunately.
Pleased with myself that I finally got one of the years correct again at least! But then 6 years early with my guess for the second round's year which I think is the furthest out I've been to date
Round 1 : 27 Didn't get Pearl Jam, the year, Olly Murs
Round 2 : 30 Didn't get Fox, Tom Jones
Tie break - I got the Prefab Sprout question but not the other one
3 in 10 - 3 Love Letters, Is This Love?, That Old Devil Called Love
Forgot this would be back on today!
Round 1: 39 *.*!!!! (both Pearl Jam and 5 Star were lucky guesses based on the years mentioned)
Round 2: 21 (didn't get: Fox, 1983 - was one year out like the contestant, The Selecter, Midnight Oil)
Three-in-Ten: 2 (Is This Love?, Love Letters)
Well 2023 is off to a splendid start with a new personal best! Round 2 not quite as impressive.
Couldn't help but laugh when 'Senza Una Donna' came up as I instantly thought of 'Censor Madonna' from the #1 Album sessions recently
Well done on getting your first 39. It was only a matter of time.
well done Jade! I got the 90's rock track wrong and also the year, Round 1, so you would have beaten me!
Round 2 39 & the 3 in 10 was fine for me, seen her a couple of times in concert
Also, I am sat alone at home, with Covid and chest infection, no working fridge and I'm supposed to go back to work tomorrow on my 65th birthday. Working from home or sick, I think, with Popmaster to keep me company
If I'm working tomorrow I wont have time to do a Birthday UK Number One review like Suedey did on his 60th, so maybe I can do a commentary-free list this afternoon instead...
what was really funny last Friday in the 3 in 10 segment, I couldn't understand what the presenter was saying
his pronunciation was so bizarre, I was understanding Poe, has to rewind 3 times and finlly figured out he meant Pulp
oh managed my first 39 today with the first round1!! 24 on the second one, harder cos of the oldies questions
3 in 10 was easy too
Round 1: 21 points Didn’t get Pearl Jam (6), the duet, Five Star, Spin Doctors (6)
Round 2: 15 points Only You Can (6), 1983, Def Leppard, On My Radio, Midnight Oil (6), Move Closer
Didn’t get either tiebreak
3 in 10: Only got All Cried Out
Ooh well done Jade on finally getting a perfect score after several near misses! Great start to the year *.* (congrats John on another 39 too, too easy for you (edit: and Bjork too!))
Round 1: 27 (missed Grace Jones (-3), Pearl Jam (-6), Five Star (-3))
Round 2: 18 (missed Kate Bush (-3), 'Only You Can' (-6), 1983 (-3), Chrissie Hynde (-6), The Selecter (-3))
3 in 10: 0/3 oops (I confused her off the bat with Annie Lennox which didn't help, but I don't think I'd be able to get more than 2 even with unlimited time honestly)
A fairly embarrassing miss on question 2 in both rounds today oops! I confused 'Slave To The Rhythm' with 'Rhythm Nation' so thought Janet Jackson, and as for Kate Bush I thought David Bowie for some reason idk why. My incorrect year guess for round 2 was 4 years late. Had no clue for the first 2 bonuses in round 2 but pleased that I pulled out the last one - I remember Midnight Oil from a Todd in the Shadows 'One Hit Wonderland' video on them.
I saw Paul Young in the title of the podcast episode and was really hoping it'd be a question about that Zucchero collab haha. Iconic.
Had no clue about either of the tiebreak questions btw. Didn't even know they did them until now!
Well done Jade and Bjork on finally getting a 39!! And PCF for yours on Round 2!
I might have also got a 39 on Round 1 except the contestant was a bit too quick for me in giving the answer for Slave To The Rhythm as my first thought was Slave To Love by Bryan Ferry
Round 2: 30 - didn't get Fox, 1983 (said 1985)
Tie-break: didn't know the second Rockers Revenge hit but did know When Loves Breaks Down
Three in ten: 3 Is This Love, Weak In The Presence Of Beauty, Whispering Your Name
Round 1: 18 (didn't get: Wayne Fontana, Andy Williams, Shawn Colvin, X-Ray Spex)
Round 2: 24 (didn't get: Brenda Russell, Jimmy Nail, Keith Washington, Kim Wilde)
Three-in-Ten: 2 (Mercy Mercy Me, Addicted To Love)
Not quite as strong a day today. Happy that I managed to get both of the years bang on at least!
Round 1: 27 - didn't get Wayne Fontana, Andy Williams
Round 2: 30 - didn't get Brenda Russell, Keith Washington (oops!)
Three in ten: 3 Addicted To Love, She Makes My Day, You Blow Me Away
There were a lot of ancient questions today, I knew Wayne Fontana and doubt few others would have even heard of him So well done everyone who gets respectable scores in the face of that! (Jade n Jim so far).
As I do better when its 60's/70s/80s heavy I've got a Ken Bruce birthday gift of full marks all round and 3 in 10 easy, cough cough cough. That's not modesty, that's the Covid when I try and say the answer out loud!
Congrats John on the birthday 100% sweep!
Hope you feel better soon.
Well done John on a full house of scores. Happy birthday and make a quick recovery.
Round 1 : 24 Didn't get Wayne Fontana, Shawn Colvin, XRay Specs
Round 2 : 21 Didn't get The year, Spinning Around, Brenda Russell, Keith Washington
3 in 10 : 2 Addicted To Love, Mercy Mercy Me I could hear She Makes My Day in my head but I couldn't think of the title in the 10 seconds.
well done Rollo and thanks!
Am I the only one to go for Johnny And Mary for the three in ten?
Well I had a good run of avoiding embarrassing scores but the inevitable has happened today! (And I see no one else struggled nearly as much, including John casually getting full marks, which is making me feel rather inadequate :'( congrats John though and happy birthday!)
Round 1: 15 (missed 'Pamela Pamela' (-6), Andy Williams (-6), 'Forget Me Nots' (-3), Shawn Colvin (-6), X-Ray Spex (-3))
Round 2: 6 (missed Little Eva (-6), 1979 (-3), 'That's The Way (I Like It)' (-3), 'Spinning Around' (-6), Brenda Russell (-3), 'Love Don't Live Here Anymore' (-3), Keith Washington (-6), Kim Wilde (-3))
3 in 10: 1/3 ('Addicted To Love')
My first guess for the year for round 2 was actually right but I changed my answer (to 4 years later) in my head before it was revealed I want to still count that but it's still my first sub-10 score either way so
At least I got the first year and it being a pre-2000 one this time!
From round 1, had no clue about any of the bonuses but feel like I should maybe have been able to recognise Andy's voice, as for X-Ray Spex the only song I know from them is the one John sent to BJSC and that didn't get a mention!
From round 2, several of those answers did ring a bell when they were revealed - Little Eva, Brenda Russell, Keith Washington - but I don't know if I'd ever have been able to recall them without Google. The only real kick myself moment was the KC & The Sunshine Band one which I definitely should have got but had a mind blank. As for Kylie I was really convinced that 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' was a) before 'Spinning Around' and b) in 2000 rather than 2001 oops! Brain definitely took a holiday for that round. Ah well, hopefully that's rock bottom and I can avoid 0s and 3s
I can safely say I only recognise the one song I named from the 3 in 10 artist, having looked through their chart history.
Nice one, John! Happy birthday
Yesterdays:
Round 1: 9 points Didn’t get Shadows, Pamela Pamela, the year, Andy Williams, Forget Me Nots, Sonny Came Home, X Ray Specs
Round 2: 27 points The year (was one out), Brenda Russell, Love Don’t Live Here Anymore, Kim Wilde
3 in ten: Only got Addicted To Love
Round 1: 36 - didn't get Four Tops. Happy to have got all the bonuses though!
Round 2: 30 - didn't get Neil Diamond, 1987 (said 1988), Sad Café - love that Des'Ree's Life was a valid answer to the last question, the ongoing impact. Both contestants spurning Eurovision for the bonus questions!
Three in ten: 3 From This Moment On, You're Still The One, That Don't Impress Me Much
Round 1: 30 (didn't get: Al Green - of course, had a mind-blank, Four Tops (said "mine")
Round 2: 30 (didn't get: Neil Diamond, 1987 - one year out because I knew 'Wishing Well' was a U.S. #1 in 1988 - boo , Sad Café)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Man! I Feel Like A Woman, You're Still The One, That Don't Impress Me Much)
I wanted the Eurovision bonus category to be picked
Edit: omg excellent post-Popmaster song today
Did poorly today:
Got 6/39 in round 1 70s singers aren’t my strong point. And was one year out of course on the year!
Got a more healthy 18/39 in round 2 and thought the 2000 group was Bewitched 😕!!
Also got 2/3 in the 3 in 10!
Thanks Bre and Jade on the birthday wishes, and well done everybody, honestly marks in the 30's are really top tier! 20's is good, 10's respectable. Some contestants struggle to get any points in the glare of national radio
I feel I have a unfair advantage by virtue of being a music fan non-stop since I was 5 years old, so I have to compare how I'd do with songs and questions from the 1920's to 1950's...and the answer is very, very badly! I'd get some, but mostly I wouldn't really know much pre-50's, so it's super-impressive that folk are so aware of music from before they were born!
And today I had brain freeze with the 3 in 10, I got the 2 massive hits from 1998 and then I did my impression of a goldfish desperately trying to come up with the lesser (but fab) pop hits I really rated or the dull country ballads. I remember them NOW, of course, but "don't call me stupid"
Round 1: 18 points Didn’t get Al Green (6), Daydreamer (6), When She Was My Girl, Charles whatever his surname was, It’s My Party
Round 2: 24 points Didn’t get: Neil Diamond, 1987, Everyday Hurts, Pink Floyd (6)
3 in 10: Man I feel like a woman, that don’t impress me much, you’re still the one
Round 1 : 24 Didn't get Al Green, the year, David Cassidy
Round 2 : 30 Didn't get Atomic Kitten, Des'ree
I thought the 2000s group was B*witched as well
I only got That Don't Impress Me Much for the 3 in 10
I can't promise I'll do this every day, but this does sound fun so let's have a go x
Round 1: 21 Got Qs 1,2,4,8 and 10 right. Only got Charles Aznavour from the bonuses thanks to those number 1 sessions!
Round 2: 12, that was pretty hard oops Only got 1, 5 and 8 and none of the bonuses, Des'ree impact though
I got a bit flustered with the 3 in 10 as the speed caught me off guard I couldn't think of their names instantly so probably only got one for sure, will hopefully get more used to it tomorrow You're Still the One came to mind instantly, I would've known the other two big names but their names didn't come to mind straight away
Oops I've done pretty awfully for a second day in a row, where have all the things I actually know gone (was a bit disappointed that both contestants snubbed Eurovision songs as a bonus category as I feel like I'd have had a chance at that, as it were I went 0 for 6 on the bonus questions whoops)
Round 1: 12 (missed Al Green (-6), Cathy Dennis (-3), 'Daydreamer' (-6), 'When She Was My Girl' (-3), Shanice (-3), Charles Aznavour (-6))
Round 2: 9 (missed Neil Diamond (-3), Atomic Kitten (-6), Zig & Zag (-3), 1987 (-3), Dee C Lee (-6), 'Every Day Hurts' (-3), Pink Floyd (-6))
3 in 10: 1/3 ('Man! I Feel Like A Woman!')
From round 1 the David Cassidy bonus was a very annoying near miss as I thought 'Daydream' - it was a complete guess of just any David Cassidy song title that I thought I remembered though so can't complain too much - but there wasn't really anything there that I was kicking myself over, just not well suited to my knowledge here. 'I Love My Smile' is a Pixie Lott song in my head and I hate this x
From round 2 I also confused Atomic Kitten with B*Witched oops, but my guess for Pink Floyd was a bit further off as I punted at them being The Monkees lmao. Never heard of Dee C Lee, I only know the Girls Aloud version and obviously knew that wasn't the answer. I was 4 years early for the year.
I should have been able to also recall 'That Don't Impress Me Much' for 3 in 10 but I don't think I'd have been able to get a third one.
Round 1: 21 - didn't get Desmond Dekker and The Aces (d'oh, I know they did a song called 007 but didn't use the "7" connection) 1990 (changed my mind in the last second to 1991, oops!), The Magnificent Seven (d'oh again!), Suzi Quatro - think that's my lowest score so far!
Round 2: 33 - didn't get Lulu (knew it wasn't Nirvana) (the contestant is no relation to me btw)
Three in ten: 3 This Love, She Will Be Loved, Memories
got the year one year out round 2 today, and misnamed the 3 in 10 one title option as Telephone, got the other 2. oops!
Welcome to the thread, Chez
I think you will appreciate the Daft Punk question today
Round 1: 24 (didn't get: Desmond Dekker & The Aces, The Magnificent Seven, Suzi Quatro) - all went downhill with a movie question
Round 2: 30 (didn't get: Lulu - I only know the Nirvana cover , A Flock of Seagulls)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (She Will Be Loved, This Love, Moves Like Jagger)
Round 1 : 33 Didn't get Desmond Decker
Round 2 : 21 Didn't get Lulu, the year, Blondie, Jean Genie
I got four questions in a row wrong in round 2.
I only got Payphone for the 3 in 10. I was the same as the contestant and gave up as soon as I heard which group it was.
Ooh today went a lot better.
Round 1 - 27 Got two of the bonuses with Kenny Rogers and Magnificent Seven! *.* Only got the year question, reggae act and Suzi Quatro one wrong
Round 2 - 21 I'm not massively clued up on early Bowie, so missed the bonuses bar the Mick Jagger question. Also got the Flock of Seagulls one wrong, instantly assumed I Ran! I did indeed appreciate Daft Punk coming up <3
Three in 10 - 2 (guy could've at least tried jeez x) This Love, She Will Be Loved and...Harder to Breathe for some reason which wasn't top 10 :') Think I was too in the zone of their first album to forget that
Round 1 - 24
Round 2 - 36 Didn't get the year
Three in ten - blew the chance of Champions League
Round 1: 12 Didn’t get: Desmond Dekker (6), 1990, Kenny Rogers (6), Higher Love, The Magnificent Seven (6), Suzi Quattro
Round 2: 15 Didn’t get: Lulu (6), Denis, Jean Genie (6), Wishing, Mick Jagger (6)
3 in 10: This Love, She Will Be Loved, Makes Me Wonder
Better scores again today, phew!
Round 1: 21 (missed Desmond Dekker & The Aces (-6), 1990 (-3), The Magnificent Seven (-6), Suzi Quatro (-3))
Round 2: 21 (missed Lulu (-6), 2007 (-3), 'The Jean Genie' (-6), 'Wishing (If I Had A Photograph Of You)' (-3))
3 in 10: 3/3 ('Makes Me Wonder', 'Moves Like Jagger', 'One More Night')
Bar a better guess at the year (I was 5 years late) round 1 couldn't have gone better there for my knowledge. Think I could have got 27 in round 2 - was just 1 year late on the year question (and that should have been an easy one oops, I forgive myself for missing pre-Y2K years but no excuse for this) and then I remembered the A Flock Of Seagulls song had the word 'photograph' in the title but alas that was all. If the contestant got 1 point for his half answer can I claim like half a point for that? also as a couple of others have said, the only cover of that Bowie song that I know is the Nirvana one but of course knew that was a couple of decades out.
Easy 3 in 10 today. Albeit awful.
Loved the appearance of a question about 'Lovely Day'
Round 1: 30 - didn't get The Moody Blues (guessed Yes, oops!), 1975 (guessed 1971)
Round 2: 33 - didn't get the year (like the contestant, I was 1 year out with 1983), NKOTB (initial thought was Bros, then the contestant beat me to it)
Three in ten: 2 Hold Me Close, Oh What A Circus, then went completely blank
Round 1: 33 (didn't get: 1975 (3 years out), Aretha Franklin)
Round 2: 36 (didn't get: 1982 (4 years out)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (A Winter's Tale, Rock On, Gonna Make You A Star)
If only today's second contestant got the Eurovision category, not that I was complaining about what they actually got - perfect for me!
Not my best day with the years but a good one otherwise *.*
round 1: doh! 2 wrong couldn't remember Ricky Wilson's bloody surname. And does anybody remember those 3 Ronan Keating records or is it just me?
good choice of track in between, One Night In Bangkok, Abba and Tony Head's singing brother together.
round 2: Got the lot thanks to a Specialist round that couldnt have been better for me....!
easy 3 in 10 for me again, got 6 inside 10 seconds, great under-rated pop star. Rock On is still awesome, City Lights epic, Gonna Make You A Star great fun and though I never did latin I can sing the intro to Oh What A Circus! No idea what it means though.
Round 1 : 24 Didn't get Natalie Imbruglia, Lenny Kravitz, Ricky Wilson, Ronan Keating
Round 2 : 33 Didn't get Help
Round 2 was better for me, I said A Hard Day's Night for the Beatles' film
3 in 10 : 3 Rock On, Hold Me Close, A Winter's Tale
Finishing the week strongly with matching my high score to date in both rounds, 6/6 on the bonus questions today! The Beatles film admittedly was an educated guess but I did know the other 5. Flop on the 3 in 10 though whoops - I recalled he had a couple of #1s but alas drew a blank on what they were called.
Round 1: 30 (missed 1975 (-3), Aretha Franklin (-3), Ronan Keating (-3))
Round 2: 30 (missed Brotherhood Of Man (-3), 1982 (-3), New Kids On The Block (-3))
3 in 10: 1/3 ('A Winter's Tale')
8 years early for the first year and 2 years late for the second, grr. Aretha and Ronan were both 'oh yeah!' moments but alas couldn't pluck them out of my memory. Brotherhood Of Man was a bit of an embarrassing miss though, I confused them with Bucks Fizz
Also an education moment from today - 'Forever Autumn' is yet another song I remember well from being on my mum's playlist but had no idea what it was called or that it was a Justin Hayward song! Great song though <3
And have to love getting questions about 'Blue Monday' and 'Together In Electric Dreams' too
Round 1: 27 points Didn’t get: The Moody Blues (6), 1975, Aretha Franklin
Round 2: 18 points Didn’t get: Real Love (6) 1982, Ringo Start (6), Help (6)
3 in 10: A Winters Tale, Hold Me Close, Oh What a Circus
Great scores all round today
forgot to mention that David Essex was my nan's celebrity crush but my knowledge of his music was independent of that information, lol.
Round 1 - 27 missed the first bonus but got the next two, missed the year one and Aretha Franklin
Round 2 - 33 *.* Managed to get all the bonus ones! I can thank the album listening sessions for getting Real Love and Help! was a guess but I figured it was around that time period, only missed the year (again) and the boyband one, I almost said New Kids on the Block but the contestant got it quicker than me so not counting it
Three in 10 - 1, oops that's a comedown A Winter's Tale was the only one I know, mistook Hold Me Closer for Come Closer and wasn't sure of anything else, I get him mixed up with David Cassidy
Monday:
Round 1: 30 - Pearl Jam (-6), Five Star (-3),
Round 2: 24 - Fox (-6), 1983 (-3), The Selector (-3), Phylis Nelson (-3)
Tiebreak: didn't know either of them
3 in 10: Alison Moyet - couldn't name any
Tuesday:
Round 1: 24 - Wayne Fontana (-6), Andy Williams (-3), Shaun Colvin (-3), X Ray Specs (-3)
Round 2: 24 - 1979 (-3), Jimmy Nail (-3), Keith Washington (-6), Kim Wilde (-3)
3 in 10: Addicted to Love
Wednesday:
Round 1: 33 - Four Tops (-3), Charles Aznevour (-3) [forgot his last name]
Round 2: 27 - 1987 (-3), DC Lee (-6), Everyday Hurt (-3),
3 in 10: That Don't Impress Me Much, Man I Feel Like A Woman, You're Still The One
Thursday:
Round 1 - 24 - Desmond Decker (-6), 1990 (-3), The Magnificent Seven (-6)
Round 2 - 36 - Blondie 'Denis' (-3),
3 in 10: Sugar, Maps, She Will Be Loved
Friday:
Round 1 - 30 - Moody Blues (-6), 1975 (-3)
Round 2 - 27 - 1982 (-3), Help! (-6), NKOTB (-3)
3 in 10: Winter's Tale
Thought I'd play along today as I'm at home
Round 1 - 9 points
Round 2 - 18 points
Only caught the last couple of questions on Round 1 - might do the rest later, but dropped 6 points with the final bonus one.
Round 2: 39
The Killers - Human first reached the Top 10 in 2008 though, so that threw me for a second
Three in ten: 3 Over My Shoulder, The Living Years, Beggar In A Beach If Gold
Ooh hi Lewis and congrats on the 39, Jim!
Round 1: 21 (didn't get: Racing Cars, Gun, Racing)
Round 2: 33 (didn't get: Darts, Danny Wilson)
Three-in-Ten: 1 (The Living Years)
That first bonus category...
The second one was much better though! I did hope an Adam and the Ants related question would come up and wasn't disappointed
round 2 I got 2 wrong, the year was way out and I forget (ironically) the one I initially forgot...
Round 1 : 24 Didn't get Racing Cars, the year, Gun
Round 2 : 36 Didn't get the year, I was two years out
3 in 10 : 3 Silent Running, The Living Years, Word Of Mouth
R1: 12 - Racing Cars (-6), 1992 (-3), Sioux and the Banshees (-3), Gun (-6), Leo Sayer (-3), Racy (-6)
R2: 36 - Darts (-3),
3in10: The Living Years
I thought both rounds were rather tough today and felt ok with my middling scores but I'm back to feeling dumb after seeing some of these other scores! well done all x
Round 1: 12 (missed Racing Cars (-6), 1992 (-3), 'Hong Kong Garden' (-3), Gun (-6), Leo Sayer (-3), Racey (-6))
Round 2: 18 (missed 'I Won't Let The Sun Go Down On Me' (-3), Darts (-3), 'What Do You Want?' (-6), either Danny Wilson song (-3), Adam Rickitt (-6))
3 in 10: 1/3 ('The Living Years')
The bonuses in round 1 were all completely no clue for me but the Gun song sounded pretty interesting so I may have to check that out (edit: I have done so now, great song!) I was 11 years early for the year which is by far my worst guess to date
From round 2, I did nearly get question 1 right as a pure guess (missed the 'On Me'), and the Adam Faith song title was on the tip of my tongue but couldn't quite recall it.
The 3 in 10 artist was another one where you could give me 10 years and I'd still only get 1/3.
Round 1: 9 points Didn’t get: Xanadu, Racing Cars (6), 1992, Hong Kong Garden, Gun (6), Leo Sayer, Racey (6)
Round 2: 21 points Darts, Goody Two Shoes (6), What Do You Want? (6), Mary’s Prayer,
3 in 10: 0
Round 1: 33 - didn't get the Dudley Moore duet. I hope everyone got the year from the Alphaville song After yesterday's Adam Ant question, an Ariana question today I'm sure Jade was pleased with, also some songs that came up in the recent #1 album sessions were mentioned!
Round 2: 21 - didn't get any of the bonus questions! Slightly out with the Reynolds Girls name
Three in ten: 3 Murder On The Dancefloor, Take Me Home, I Won't Change You
Round 1 : 21 Didn't get Daniel Powter, Peter Cook & Dudley Moore, Gloria Gaynor, Celine Dion
Round 2 : 27 Didn't get The year, Clodagh Rogers, Craig David & Sting
3 in 10 : 1 Murder On The Dancefloor
R1: 21 - Peter Cook (-6), 1984 (-3), Paul Simon (-3), Gloria Gaynor (-6)
R2: 24 - 1972 (-3), Reynolds Girls (-6), Joyce Sims (-3), Clodagh Rodgers (-3)
3in10: Murder on the Dancefloor, Groovejet, Catch You
I was training someone this morning so just catching up now. I'm not sure if she would've appreciated a PopMaster deviation or not
Round 1: 24 (didn't get: Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, Paul Simon, Gloria Gaynor)
Round 2: 24 (didn't get: The Reynolds Girls, Joyce Sims, Clodagh Rodgers)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Take Me Home, Murder On The Dancefloor, Groovejet (If This Ain't Love))
Happy to have got both of the years at least
I was pleased with the Ariana question indeed, Jim *.*
I was lulled into a false sense of security in both rounds as the final questions did me in (celine dion and Sting/Craig david) and wasnt fast enough for the 3 in 10, 2 easily third just after the 10 seconds doh! Then I got another 2 or 3
Round 1: 21 points Didn’t get: Peter Cook and Dudley Moore (6), 1984, Paul Simon, Gloria Gaynor (6)
Round 2: 15 points Didn’t get: Ray Charles (6), 1972, Reynolds Girls (6), Joyce Simms, Cloda Rogers (6), Rise and Fall
3 in 10: Get Over You, Murder on the Dancefloor, Take Me Home
I'm the only person who did worse on round 2 than round 1 today then...
Round 1: 21 (missed Peter Cook & Dudley Moore (-6), 1984 (-3), Gloria Gaynor (-6), 'Because You Loved Me' (-3))
Round 2: 9 (missed Ray Charles (-6), 1972 (-3), The Reynolds Girls (-6), Stevie Wonder (-3), Joyce Sims (-3), Clodagh Rodgers (-6), 'Rise And Fall' (-3))
3 in 10: 2/3 ('Murder On The Dancefloor', 'Heartbreak (Make Me A Dancer)')
I was 2 years early on round 1 and 2 years late on round 2, although my initial gut answer for round 2 was actually right and then I changed it before the answer was revealed, second time that's happened now grr!
From round 1 there was one answer I retained from playing the relevant song at the #1 albums sessions (Paul Simon) and another that I should have but didn't (Céline Dion). Despite my score for round 2 being way lower than everyone else's, I still feel like there's only one question (bar the year) that was within the reach of my knowledge - I guessed 'Up And Down' for the Craig/Sting song so I had the right idea but alas did not quite recall it correctly!
With the 3 in 10 I assumed 'Groovejet' wouldn't have been accepted - but I think it took me longer than 10 seconds to recall it anyway. I confess that I have been pausing before the contestant starts answering as I find that too distracting, I guess that's probably cheating a bit though even with that cheating I still fail more often than not oop
Round 1: 18 (didn't get: Darlin', 1994 (4 years out oops), Wizzard (guessed the same as the contestant), Queen, 911)
Round 2: 18 (didn't get: S Club 7, Ricky Nelson, Emmerdale, King)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Ruby, I Predict A Riot, Everyday I Love You Less And Less)
Meh, this was not my day I actually do know that Woolpackers song but had no idea about the backstory
33 round 1 (got the 90's teenybop questions wrong) and 27 round 2 (2 disastrous double A side questions, and I don't mean the 60's one)
I've now done Monday's Round 1 in full - my previous lowest score for a regular round was 21, but I only managed 12 here! Didn't get any of the bonus questions, the year: 1 out with 1991, Hong Kong Garden (said Dear Prudence), Leo Sayer
Did a bit better today:
Round 1: 24 - didn't get Darlin', Wizzard (guessed "Rock 'N' Roll" instead of "Rock"), Queen (d'oh!)
Round 2: 33 - didn't get Ricky Nelson
Three in ten: 3 Oh My God, I Predict A Riot, Modern Way
Round 1: 24 Didn’t get: Darling (6), Are You Ready To Rock?, Queen (6)
Round 2: 30 Didn’t get: Hello Mary Lou (6), King - but annoyingly knew them both!
3 in 10: I Predict A Riot, Ruby, Oh My God
Round 1 : 24 Didn't get Darlin', the year, Take That, 911
Round 2 : 15 Didn't get S Club, the year, Ricky Nelson, Emmerdale, Leona Lewis. I should have got Hello Mary Lou but just couldn't think of the title
3 in 10 : I got one, I might have got more but the man saying three quickly put me off.
R1: 18 - Beach Boys 'Darlin' (-6), 1994 (-3) [guessed 95], Howard of Take That (-3), Wizzard 'Are You Ready to Rock' (-3), Queen 'Save Me' (-6)
R2: 24 - S Club 7 'Love Ain't Gonna Wait for You' (-6), Ricky Nelson 'Hello Mary Lou' (-6), Emmerdale (-3)
Round 1: 18 (missed 'Darlin'' (-6), 1994 (-3), Howard Donald (-3), Queen (-6), 911 (-3))
Round 2: 21 (missed 'Love Ain't Gonna Wait For You' (-6), 'Hello Mary Lou' (-6), 'Native New Yorker' (-3), King (-3))
3 in 10: 3/3 ('I Predict A Riot', 'Ruby', 'Never Miss A Beat') - easy, seems like I was the only one to go for that last one instead of another of their earlier hits though!
1 year early for the round 1 year grrr, at least nailed the second one!
Big 'today I learned' moment re Howard Donald, I didn't know he had any songs with lead vocals! And had two lucky guesses be correct today - I probably knew the Wizzard one subconsciously from it always being included in the chart show thread writeups for their Christmas hit, whereas Emmerdale was just a complete random guess, perhaps my subconscious thought process there was hillbilly = farm = Emmerdale lmao.
Round 1: 27 (didn't get: Alicia Bridges, 1996 (3 years out), 'My Brother Jake')
Round 2: 33 (didn't get: 1985 (2 years out), 'I Love Music')
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Spinning Around, Can't Get You Out Of My Head, Slow)
Yay, back in the right direction today. Nice and easy 3-in-10!
Glad I got the Pigbag question right as it's a QPR anthem and my dad and brother are big supporters
'Vienna' as the post-PopMaster song
Round 1 : 30 Didn't get Elaine Paige, Alicia Bridges
Round 2 : 24 Didn't get O Jays, Paulo Nutini, Kelly Osborne, Before You Go
I was doing well until getting the last four questions wrong.
3 in 10 : 3 Spinning Round, Wow, Can't Get You Out Of My Head
39 round 1, 27 round 2 doh! The recent questions did me in. Peasy 3 in 10 though
Was on a roll with round 2 and hoping for a new best but alas just matching my best to date!
Round 1: 21 (missed Elaine Paige (-3), Alicia Bridges (-6), 1996 (-3), 'My Brother Jake' (-3), Kiki Dee (-3))
Round 2: 30 (missed 'I Love Music' (-3), Kelly Osbourne (-6))
3 in 10: 3/3 ('I Believe In You', 'Get Outta My Way', 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head') - easy again today!
Definitely didn't know either of the ones I missed on round 2 (I have no memory at all of Kelly Osbourne covering 'Papa Don't Preach' whoops!), lucky educated guess on the year. Was 4 years early on round 1 and probably should have got Kiki Dee too.
A real mix of quality in the songs referenced in round 1 - The KLF and Simon & Garfunkel on one hand, Cliff Richard and Alexandra Burke on the other.
Round 1: 36 (didn't get: Jon Secada)
Round 2: 33 (didn't get: Faith Hill, Dollar)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Respect, I Say A Little Prayer, I Knew You Were Waiting (for Me)
So close for Round 1! I've definitely heard that Jon Secada song before thanks to TOTP but the title just wouldn't come to me in time.
Knew the first year thanks to 'Batdance' but the second was a lucky guess.
Round 1 : 24 Didn't get The year, Billy Preston, Jon Secada, The Script
Round 2 : 30 Didn't get Faith Hill, East 17
I should really have got Billy Preston and East 17
3 in 10 : 3 Who's Zooming Who, I Knew You Were Waiting, I Say A Little Prayer
Thursday
R1: 27 - Elaine Page (-3), Alesha Bridges (-6), 1996 (-3) [1997], Free 'My Brother Jake' (-3),
R2: 36 - 1985 (-3) [1984],
Friday
R1: 33 - 1989 (-3) [1990], John Cicada 'Just Another Day' (-3),
R2: 18 - Neneh Cherry (-6), 1977 (-3) [1976], Faith Hill (-3), Dollar (-3), East 17 (-6)
^ oof at one year out 4 times in a row!
I got a new high score in round 1 - although it should have been a Champions' League qualifying score as I got the year right and then changed my mind yet again!! - but then a complete mare in round 2 missing 2 extremely easy questions oops!
Round 1: 33 (missed 1989 (-3), 'Just Another Day' (-3))
Round 2: 12 (missed Yazoo (-3), Neneh Cherry (-6), 1977 (-3), 'I'll Stand By You' (-3), Faith Hill (-3), Dollar (-3), East 17 (-6))
3 in 10: 3/3 ('Respect', 'I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)', 'Who's Zoomin' Who?') - thanks to another recent episode keeping the third on my mind as I think I may have stalled on 2 otherwise
2 years late on round 1 after switching my mind, 3 years late on round 2. I would never have got the other one I missed in round 1 so no chance of a 39 still.
From round 2, I confused Alison Moyet with Annie Lennox AGAIN and said Eurythmics instead of Yazoo and then I just went full mindblank trying to recall Girls Aloud's #1 singles ooops. I had no idea about the rest tbf, would never have guessed that last clip being East 17, I'm used to 'Stay Another Day' from them not whatever KLF ripoff that song was x
Catching up on this!
Thursday:
Round 1 - 39
Round 2 - 32: I guessed "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag" rather than "...Pigbag" so may have dropped about 4 points there, and didn't get O Jays
Three in ten: 3 I Should Be So Lucky, Slow, Can't Get You Out Of My Head
Friday:
Round 1 - another 39
Round 2 - 36: one year out, costing me a perfect day! (Said 1978)
Three in ten: 3 Respect, I Say A Little Prayer, A Deeper Love
I got all the 3 in 10 this week, hardest ones were Aretha and Sophie but got to 3 in the end
If one is picky there have been a couple errors in last week's questions
Neneh Cherry had 3 top 10s in the 90s, besides Woman she also had Seven Seconds and that charity one Love Can Build a Bridge
then Sophie Ellis Bextor was not officially credited in Groovejet
Round 1: 24 - one year out (said 1983), didn't get Time Is Tight or the Glen Fry one, also my first thought on the Bond theme was The Living Daylights but I inexplicably changed my mind to View To A Kill, d'oh!
Round 2: 33 - didn't get The Sweet. Julian's review of 1954 hits helped me to get the Papa Loves Mambo artist
Three in ten - 3 Hello, My Destiny, All Night Long (All Night)
Round 1: 21 (didn't get: a-ha, 1982, Booker T. & The M.G.'s - I only know 'Green Onions' oops, Glenn Frey, Jason Donovan)
Round 2: 27 (didn't get: Steely Dan, The Temptations, 'Substitute')
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Hello, Dancing On The Ceiling, All Night Long (All Night)
Also only got Perry Como thanks to Julian's thread. I probably would've guessed the same as the contestant otherwise.
Happy to have got The Sweet, was a lucky guess really as I've never heard that song but thought the vocals sounded like them and the time period seemed right
It was fairly easy for me today (lots of old questions) but I struggled with the artist for 3 hits from the early 2000's. One I half-recognised, the other 2 I drew a blank - yet just checked my spreadsheet and Jumpin' and Song 4 Lovers both made my top 40. Oops!
I was poor today.
Round 1 : 21 Didn't get Aha (I did the same as Jim and said A View To A Kill), the year, Christina Aguilera, Booker T, Jason Donovan
Round 2 : 15 Didn't get Steeleye Span, the year, Kim Appleby, Sweet, Liberty X, Perry Como (I wasn't paying enough attention to Julian's thread)
3 in 10 : 3 Say You Say Me, Hello, Dancing On The Ceiling
Same score in both rounds today but getting there in very different ways - 2/3 bonuses in round 1 but 0/3 in round 2!
Round 1: 18 (missed 'The Living Daylights' (-3), 1982 (-3), 'Time Is Tight' (-6), 'The Heat Is On' (-3), Status Quo (-3), 'Rhythm Of The Rain' (-3))
Round 2: 18 (missed 'Haitian Divorce' (-3), The Temptations (-6), The Sweet (-6), Perry Como (-6))
3 in 10: 2/3 ('All Night Long (All Night)', 'Hello') - had 'Stuck On You' on the tip of my tongue too but couldn't quite recall it aw
I was 12 years late on round 1, didn't recognise any of the named artists so that one was a complete stab in the dark Probably should have got the a-ha song but had no clue about the rest.
Also had no clue about the first 3 that I missed in round 2, for the last bonus I made the same incorrect guess of Dean Martin as the contestant did, whoops ~ I was trying to think of Julian's thread but I think I was confusing 'Papa Loves Mambo' with 'Mambo Italiano' whoops! Plus it did kind of sound like him...
Had a couple of lucky educated guesses today - The Beautiful South, The Rolling Stones and Kim Appleby were all answers I was unsure of.
Round 1: 27 - one year out (also said 1975), didn't get Neil Diamond or Listen To Your Heart. Lucky guess with Sandie Shaw, I almost guessed Petula Clark as well
Round 2: 33 - didn't get the second Elton song. Lyin' Eyes was the only song to spend 3 weeks at a #23 peak, I wouldn't have known the title otherwise
Three in ten: 3 Animal Nitrate, Stay Together, Saturday Night
Round 1: 27 (didn't get: Phil Lynott, Eurythmics, Neil Diamond)
Round 2: 27 (didn't get: 1995, The Eagles, 'I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That')
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Trash, Beautiful Ones, Animal Nitrate)
I expect Suedehead would be pleased with today's 3-in-10 artist
Ken Bruce leaving in March 😕
From the PR, it looks like Popmaster will be moving to Greatest Hits Radio with him.
Round 1 : 21 Didn't get Sandie Shaw (I did think of her but went for Dusty Springfield), Eurythmics, Neil Diamond, Listen To Your Heart
Round 2 : 30 Didn't get The Eagles, the second Elton John question
3 in 10 : 1 Electricity
His contract only lasts 2 years and ends in march. I assume hits radio made him an offer he couldnt refuse in an attempt to get the 8 million listeners ken and popmaster brings in.
Place your bets on which ex radio 1 dj will get the slot! Id like Scott Mills to move there and fill the afternoon slot with another radio 1 dj who's pushing 35 or so...
Today i got the year wrong round 2. I said the right year in my head and then talked myself out of it.😆
Another fail on round 1 but not bad on round 2.
Round 1: 9 (missed Deniece Williams (-6), 1976 (-3), Sandie Shaw (-6), 'Yellow Pearl' (-3), Eurythmics (-3), Neil Diamond (-6), 'Listen To Your Heart' (-3))
Round 2: 24 (missed 1995 (-3), 'Lyin' Eyes' (-3), 'I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That' (-6), Alison Limerick (-3))
3 in 10: 3/3 ('Trash', 'She's In Fashion', 'Electricity') - fresh on the mind from the #1 albums! otherwise the songs I know best from them are their recent releases that didn't chart lol
2 years late then 3 years early for the years this time. For some reason I was sure Ini Kamoze had been covered in Gezza's TOTP thread but I guess I'm thinking of something else!
I also guessed Petula Clark for the 60s singer and Alison Moyet for the final question - with me also not getting Eurythmics, it's really a running theme now that I can't get any question related to Annie Lennox or Alison Moyet correct
A couple of rather annoying misses - definitely should have got 'Listen To Your Heart' and 'Lyin' Eyes' was right on the tip of my tongue too :'( I don't think I've heard the latter song but I remember it being referenced in HAIM's 'If I Could Change Your Mind'!
Round 1: missed the first couple of questions (they'd started by 10:30) so will have to download later, but dropped 12 points from the ones I did catch, including the middle bonus question. I got the year though!
Round 2: 18 - didn't get any of the bonus questions Little Richard couldn't come to me in time, d'oh! Also couldn't think of Cozy Powell's surname in time
Three in ten: 3 - Sweet Dreams, Halo, If I Were A Boy
Happy to hear that Ken will bring the PopMaster format with him when he moves over to Greatest Hits Radio at least!
Round 1: 24 (didn't get: Gregory Abbott, Rickie Lee Jones, Peters & Lee (oops confused them with fellow #1 artists Peter & Gordon ), Limmie & Family Cookin')
Round 2: 21 (didn't get: Prefab Sprout, Eric Clapton, Cozy Powell, Sally Oldfield)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It), Crazy In Love, Halo)
Ooft a tough day!
Have you notice how there are always questions about 1988, must be their fav years even 2 in the same round today!!
also nice to get a question about Air today, since we were talking about them in the other thread
The 3 in 10 are kinda too easy lately, yesterday I manage to answer 20 hits for Suede
Falling on my face a bit again today oops - 1/6 bonuses and 1 year early on both of the year questions Very easy 3 in 10 today though.
Round 1: 12 (missed 'Shake You Down' (-6), 1986 (-3), 'I Know Him So Well' (-3), Rickie Lee Jones (-6), 'Welcome Home' (-3), 'Ocean Drive' (-3), either Limmie & Family Cookin' song (-3))
Round 2: 9 (missed Little Richard (-6), 1997 (-3), Prefab Sprout (-3), 'Lay Down Sally' (-6), 'Kelly Watch The Stars' (-3), Cozy Powell (-3), Sally Oldfield (-6))
3 in 10: 3/3 ('Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)', 'Irreplaceable', 'BREAK MY SOUL')
Most annoying miss was Little Richard - I was trying to think of that name as a guess but couldn't quite recall it, could only remember the first word oops! A few more I probably should have got too - I should have been able to guess the Steps one just based on the artists of the original but I forgot they had a version of that song oops. Should have known 'Ocean Drive' too although Duke Dumont's song of the same name > x And if only the Air album listenthrough had actually happened already...
Ah well, hopefully better tomorrow again
Round 1 : 27 Didn't get Ricky-Lee Jones, Ocean Drive, Limmie & Family Cooking
Round 2 : 21 Didn't get The year, Lay Down Sally, Sally Oldfield, Robbie Williams
3 in 10 : 3 Sweet Dreams, Cuff It, Single Ladies. Two of those I've recently included on my no.5 poll results, otherwise I don't think I would have been able to name three in the 10 seconds.
Round 1: 27 (didn't get: Randy Crawford, Spandau Ballet, The Lovin' Spoonful)
Round 2: 21 (didn't get: The Specials, Peter Frampton, Public Image Ltd, Kiki Dee, Alisha's Attic)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Kiss, 1999, When Doves Cry)
30 and 30 today, boo! I got 2 wrong each round:
including Lovin' Spoonful, Kiki Dee's name (which I knew) and Alisha's Attic (which I knew, I just couldnt get I Am I Said out of my head - Neil Diamond's biggie) doh!
Got the first two questions in Round 1 yesterday (easy), so would have scored 27 - the ones I didn't get yesterday were Rickie Lee Jones, Peters and Lee (had a mind blank), Limmie and The Family Cookin'
Round 1 today: 27 - didn't get Randy Crawford (all I could think of was The Pogues - A Rainy Night In Soho), one year out (said 1977), The Lovin' Spoonful
Round 2: 30 - didn't get Gangsters (d'oh! It was a 50/50 between that and A Message To You Rudy which I went for), Kiki Dee
Three in ten: 3 Kiss, Purple Rain, When Doves Cry x3
Round 1 : 27 Didn't get Spandau Ballet, Lovin' Spoonful, Me Against The Music
Round 2 : 27 Didn't get The year, Kiki Dee, Alisha's Attic
3 in 10 : 3 Purple Rain, Kiss, Raspberry Beret
Featuring the Andrew Gold song on my number 5 poll commentary yesterday helped me get the year right in round 1.
Friday:
Round 1 : 27 Didn't get Latin Quarter, the year, Lisa Stansfield
Round 2 : 24 Didn't get Bob Dylan, the year, Hot Chocolate
I was one year out on both years today.
3 in 10 : 3 He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother, Bus Stop, The Air That I Breathe
Round 1: 27 (didn't get: Latin Quarter, Lisa Stansfield, Exile)
Round 2: 15 (didn't get: Bob Dylan, 1973, Level 42, Hot Chocolate, Genesis)
Three-in-Ten: 2 (He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother, I'm Alive)
Had a bit of a nightmare with round 2
Round 1 yesterday: 30 - didn't get Latin Quarter, Exile
Round 2: 30 - one year out (said 1974), Hot Chocolate - same correct answers as the contestant!
Three in ten: 3 - The Air That I Breathe, He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother, I'm Alive
Round 1: 36 - didn't get The Adverts and I know that song, argh! I knew it was the somethings but all I could think of was The Mixtures
Round 2: 30 - didn't get Bryan Ferry (I should have remembered that), Bobby Womack (I would have known Sly Fox if Ken hadn't given away the answer)
Three in ten: 3 - How Am I Supposed To Live Without You, Lean On Me, Can I Touch You There
Round 1: 36 (didn't get: The Adverts)
Round 2: 30 (didn't get: Bryan Ferry, Bobby Womack)
Three-in-Ten: 1 (How Am I Supposed To Live Without You)
Yay, a good start to the week. Ooh we have an exact snap Jim (3-in-10 aside) even down to the questions we didn't get
I did wonder if a Deep Purple question would come up for Round 2 when the bonus theme was chosen
Round 1 : 36 Didn't get The Adverts
Round 2 : 27 Didn't get Bryan Ferry, Bobby Womack, If I Can't Have You
Almost the same wrong answers as you two, just one extra.
3 in 10 : 0 I couldn't think of anything
36 round 1 - my mind went blank for Lizzo doh!
36 round 2 - bobby womack (but I knew Sly Fox)
3 in 10 well done everyone that struggled! Sadly I did know 3 Michael Bolton songs
Monday
Round 1 – 27: 1993 (guessed 1994) -3, Lennon/McCartney songwriting -6, The Adverts -3
Round 2 – 30: Bryan Ferry -6, Bobby Womack -3,
Round 1: 33 - didn't get The Move. Just about remembered Londonbeat in time
Round 2: - 39 that trio of songs in the bonuses too!
Three in ten: 3 - Whole Again, See Ya, I Want Your Love
Round 1: 30 (didn't get: Owen Paul, The Move)
Round 2: 36 (didn't get: LeAnn Rimes) - nooooooo pesky final question
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Whole Again, The Tide Is High (Get The Feeling), It's OK!)
Of course the Red Hot Chili Peppers had to pop up for that first bonus category
Ooh 'The Winner Takes It All' is the post-PopMaster song today
Round 1 : 24 Didn't get RHCP, Londonbeat, James Morrison, Proud
Round 2 : 24 Didn't get Somebody That I Used To Know, Sam Smith, All Saints, Leann Rimes
I knew Gotye but couldn't think of the name of his song even though it gets mentioned quite a lot on here
3 in 10 : 3 Whole Again, Be With You, Eternal Flame
Round 1: 30 - Owen Paul -3, The Move -6
Round 2: 36 - All Saints -3
Round 1: 39
Round 2: 27 - didn't get Give A Little Love, one year out (said 1974), Amii Stewart
Three in ten: 3 - I Wanna Do It With You, Copacabana, Mandy
Round 1: 24/39
Round 2: 18/39 (didnt get Amie Stewart just guessed Gloria Gaynor and guessed 1976 so was one year out!!)
1/3 in 3 in 10, only knew 'Mandy'
You might want to use spoiler tags Steve:
[spoiler] before the text to be hidden and [/spoiler] after it.
Thanks Jim, I wasn’t sure of how to do it but found it now!
Sorry if anyone seen what I commented on!
Whoops fell a bit behind on these but catching up now and shall aim to keep up again! My scores and some comments from the previous 4 rounds then will post today's separately ~
Doing slightly better each time throughout this catchup, doing today's now, will see if that trend continues
Thursday
Round 1: 12 (missed 'Rainy Night In Georgia' (-3), 1978 (-3), Spandau Ballet (-3), The Lovin' Spoonful (-6), 'We All Stand Together' (-3), Procol Harum (-6), 'Tears On My Pillow' (-3))
Round 2: 15 (missed 'Gangsters' (-3), Suggs (-6), Peter Frampton (-3), Public Image Ltd (-3), Pauline Matthews (-6), 'I Am, I Feel' (-3)
3 in 10: 3/3 ('Sexy M.F.', 'The Most Beautiful Girl In The World', '1999')
5 years early for the first year. 'We All Stand Together' was right on my tongue but I couldn't remember the exact title. Should have got 'Gangsters' too, and I did think the Suggs clip sounded like Madness but didn't think to guess him as a solo artist oops! Loved the clips of 'The Lovecats' and 'Royals' *.*
Friday
Round 1: 21 (missed Latin Quarter (-6), 2001 (-3), Lisa Stansfield (-3), 'St. Elmo's Fire (Man In Motion)' (-3), Exile (-3))
Round 2: 15 (missed 'The Times They Are A-Changin'' (-6), 1973 (-3), Level 42 (-3), Hot Chocolate (-6), Genesis (-6))
3 in 10: 1/3 ('He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother') - don't think I'd ever be able to name any others
2 years early then 13 years late (oopsie). 'St. Elmo's Fire' was an annoying miss as I really like that song but was blanking on the title, I just remembered it was something a bit weird. Also should have got 'The Times They Are A-Changin''. Another fab clip choice in 'It's A Sin' <3
Monday
Round 1: 27 (missed Edison Lighthouse (-6), 1993 (-3), The Adverts (-3))
Round 2: 21 (missed Iron Maiden (-6), Bryan Ferry (-6), Bobby Womack (-3), 'If I Can't Have You' (-3))
3 in 10: 0/3 - I was trying to think of 'How Am I Supposed To Live Without You' but couldn't recall it, wouldn't have known any others anyway
1 year late on the first year after changing my mind from the correct answer But then I also changed my mind on the second year and got it right after doing so so swings and roundabouts! My most annoying miss of this whole catchup in Edison Lighthouse considering it was viral so recently, alas all I could think was it was 'something similar to Jefferson Airplane' :'( I got Lennon & McCartney as songwriters on a total guess, didn't expect that to be right as it seemed too obvious! And lmao yet another Ronan Keating question. Also oops at Ken giving away one of the answers, not that I'd have known either that or the replacement question anyway
Tuesday
Round 1: 27 (missed 'My Favourite Waste Of Time' (-3), Londonbeat (-3), The Move (-6))
Round 2: 24 (missed 1998 (-3), All Saints (-3), 'Shiny Happy People' (-6), LeAnn Rimes (-3))
3 in 10: 3/3 ('The Tide Is High (Get The Feeling)', 'Whole Again', 'Eternal Flame')
1 year early for the second year. I thought The Move clip sounded like Wizzard so I was almost right. 'Shiny Happy People' was another annoying miss as I did know it but got the title slightly wrong (I said 'Happy Shining People' whoops, maybe Ken would have been nice and given me 2 points for that x). And I finally got a question correct relating to Annie Lennox and/or Alison Moyet (Annie in this case)
Well I did get my best score from today's catchup in round 1 today but fell a little more flat in round 2!
Round 1: 30 (missed 'Chains' (-3), Alvin Stardust (-3), 'Victim Of Love' (-3))
Round 2: 15 (missed Aswad / Daniel O'Donnell (-6), 1975 (-3), Space (-3), 911 (-6), 'One Day In Your Life' (-3), Amii Stewart (-3))
3 in 10: 2/3 ('Mandy', 'Copacabana (At The Copa)') - impressed I managed to recall 2, don't think I'd have ever got a 3rd, although there are a few others I recognise and forgot this artist sang / did a version of having looked up the list
1 year late on the second year grr. Travis was a total guess which I was shocked was correct, got all of the first six questions correct after that which made me excited for a moment but alas had no idea on 3 of the remaining 4! For the first bonus on round 2 I guessed Tom Jones - he does have a song called 'Give A Little Love' but wasn't a hit (also thought it was a much older song whoops). Should have got 'One Day In Your Life' too but alas was blanking on both MJ #1s and Anastacia hits outside of the obvious couple. Didn't know the rest.
Round 1 : 24 Didn't get Lemar, the year, Emelie Sande, Tina Arena, Alvin Stardust
Round 2 : 24 Didn't get Give A Little Love, the year, 911
3 in 10 - 3 Bermuda Triangle, Copacabana, Could It Be Magic
Round 1: 21 (didn't get: The Police - messed up their chronology in my head, Travis, Tina Arena - annoying miss, Alvin Stardust)
Round 2: 24 (didn't get: 'Give A Little Love', Space, 911)
Three-in-Ten: 2 (Mandy, Copacabana)
Oops quite a drop-off from yesterday!
Round 1 got one year out doh!
Round 2 got the bonus question wrong (911)
I easily knew 3 songs. He had at least 3 great songs!
Nobody wants to do the Cliff At The Movies one - I would. Top of my head so you can all get bonus points when someone is forced to go for it, Expresso Bongo (1959/60ish maybe?), Summer Holiday 1963 double decker bus Una Stubbs Bachelor Boy The Next Time, Take Me High (his last film in 1974), There were others but I dont remember them....
I did say I may forget about this Let me remember to do it now though x
Round 1: 18 started out well as I got all but the bonus from the first half (mixed up with Don't Stand So Close to Me), though only got I Will Survive from the last part!
Round 2: 18, snap! Got the first two and last two easily, but nothing in the middle, some tough questions!
Three in 10: 3 Mandy, Can't Smile Without You and Copacabana, icon *___*
Round 1: 33 - didn't get Tommy James and The Shondells
Round 2: 36 - didn't get Lily Was Here - couldn't recall the name! First bonus question was Saturday Love which was on Friday's TOTP 1986 as mentioned in the 80s thread.
Three in ten: 3 - Sweet Child O' Mine, November Rain, Since I Don't Have You (I often gravitate towards 1994 onwards for at least one of these)
Round 1 : 18 Didn't get Boys II Men, Tommy James & The Shondells, Montell Jordan, Harry Styles
Round 2 : 21 Didn't get Shirelle & Alexander O'Neal, Lily Was Here, The Saturdays, Slade
I only got one bonus question correct today.
3 in 10 : 3 November Rain, Sweet Child O' Mine, Live And Let Die
Round 1: 30 (didn't get: Tommy James & The Shondells, The Doobie Brothers)
Round 2: 36 (didn't get: 1974) ~ prevented from a full house by being one year out, how cruel
Three-in-Ten: 2 (Sweet Child O' Mine, November Rain)
I really hoped to get all of the U.S. chart-toppers considering I've done a marathon of them all but I think 'Mony, Mony' is the only song I could confidently name by that artist.
Great timing for that Sherelle/Alexander O'Neal question as it was just on one of the retro TOTP episodes. (Edit: ah I see Jim pointed that out too!)
The Saturdays popping up feels very BuzzJack
Wed:
R1: 24 The Police -6, Travis -6, Alvin Stardust -3,
R2: 18 'Give A Little Love' -6, 1975 -3 [1974 guessed], 'All I Want Is You' -6, 'One Day In Your Life' -3, Amy Stewart -3,
Thu:
R1: 27 Tommy James and the Shondells -6, Louise -3, Doobie Brothers -3,
R2: 21 Shirelle & Alexander O'Neal -6, 1974 -3 [1976 guessed], Prince -3, 'Lily Was Here' -3, Slade -3
Round 1: 30 (didn't get: Showaddywaddy, The Flying Lizards - only know the Beatles version well enough)
Round 2: 30 (didn't get: Sister Sledge, The Dave Clark Five)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (I'm Outta Love, Left Outside Alone, Sick and Tired)
omg 'Magic Fly' coming up as a bonus posted about that in the 70s thread the other day.
Round 1 : 36 Didn't get Crazy For You
Round 2 : 24 Didn't get Green Day, Gwen Stefani, Dave Clark Five
I should have got Crazy For You to get to 39 as that song was on the 1994 survivor poll recently, I just couldn't remember the title
3 in 10 - 1 I'm Outta Love
Whoops forgot to do this again last night so another small catchup - here's yesterday's, will try and remember to do today's a bit later!
Round 1: 24 (missed 1980 (-3), Ace Of Base (-3), Tommy James And The Shondells (-6), The Doobie Brothers (-3))
Round 2: 15 (missed Cherrelle / Alexander O'Neal (-6), 1974 (-3), 'Thieves In The Temple' (-3), 'Showing Out (Get Fresh At The Weekend)' (-6), 'Lily Was Here' (-3), Slade (-3))
3 in 10: 2/3 ('Sweet Child O' Mine', 'Chinese Democracy') - I named 'Appetite For Destruction' in my head as well but that was only an album rather than a song whoops! Was banking on it having a title track lots of obvious ones that I missed whoops, but somehow did think of their fleeting comeback 'hit' from 2008 lol
5 years late and 3 years late on the two year questions. I was guessing between Ace Of Base and Roxette for round 1 question 5 and failed the 50/50 aw! Confused 'Life Is A Flower' with 'Fading Like A Flower', that's my excuse x I should have got 'Thieves In The Temple' - I also said 'Night' like the contestant lol - but otherwise round 2 was really hard for me, surprised to see such high scores for it here, you're all too knowledgeable.
Round 1: 36 - didn't get Showaddywaddy
Round 2: 30 - didn't get the Sister Sledge song, Dave Clark Five
Three in ten: 3 - I'm Outta Love, One Day In Your Life, Left Outside Alone
Round 1: 24 (missed 1996 (-3), 'Shout' (-3), Showaddywaddy (-3), The Flying Lizards (-6))
Round 2: 27 (missed Pet Shop Boys (-3), 1979 (-3), The Dave Clark Five (-6))
3 in 10: 2/3 ('I'm Outta Love', 'Left Outside Alone') - probably should have got 'Sick And Tired' too, or perhaps 'One Day In Your Life' since that was also an answer on another recent PopMaster episode oop
3 years early and 8 years late on the year questions. I definitely should have got Pet Shop Boys but had a mind blank, maybe should have got 'Shout' too.
Had a few lucky guesses today! Spandau Ballet was an educated guess, didn't know the song but thought the voice sounded like them. Space I literally only got because I know it's an instrumental with the word 'Fly' in the title, only know it exists because of Jade being a fan haha. And the Sister Sledge one was a 100% shot in the dark as I've never heard of that song but just sounded like a plausible title!
Also some great song clips in round 2 - Green Day and David Gray
Fri
R1: 30 - Spandau Ballet -6, Showaddywaddy -3,
R2: 27 - 1979 -3 [2 years out], Sister Sledge -3, Dave Clark Five -6,
Round 1: 36 - one! year! out! I knew it was either 1987 or 1988 but went for the wrong one Got all the bonus questions despite none of them being about Bruce Springsteen
Round 2: 33 - didn't get Johnny Mathis
Three in ten: 3 - It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas,
Hollywood, Haven't Met You Yet
Round 1: 15 (didn't get: Bruce Dickinson, Bruce Foxton, T-Rex (said 'Satisfaction' in my head rather than 'Easy Action' oops), Bruce Hornsby (an annoying miss as I know this song but had a total mind-blank), Quartz/Dina Carroll)
Round 2: 27 (didn't get: Joan Armatrading, Johnny Mathis, Small Faces/Blue Mink)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Haven't Met You Yet, It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas, It's A Beautiful Day)
That first bonus round...
thought of Rollo when the Marillion question came up
Round 1 : 33 Didn't get T Rex, It's Too Late
Round 2 : 27 Didn't get The year, Johnny Mathis, Stay With Me
Good to hear a Marillion question come up
3 in 10 : 1 It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas I was as clueless as the contestant for that singer.
round 1 39, round 2 not 39. Actual points obtained depends on how strict Ken would be with me I said Jennifer Hollowson beautifully combing the original hitmaker and the American Idol star
and then I got Jane for the cruising star without enough time from the bloke giving up to let me dig out McDonald oops!
I just named one random old Xmas songs for the 3 in 1 and pretty sure that was right with no chance of getting any of the non-xmas hits as my brain struggles with blandness. Even cheerful blandness that I quite like.
Crazy the first guy had such a high score but missed the first question, must be loving under a rock these days
Just got the 3 in 10 right but was hard
Round 1: 18 - Bruce Dickinson -6, 1988 -3 [1 year out], Marillion -3, Bruce Foxton -6, T-Rex -3,
Round 2: 24 - Joan Armatrading -3, Five Star -3, Johnny Mathis -6, 'Stay With Me' -3
3 in 10: Haven't Met You Yet, It's Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas, Holly Jolly Christmas
Round 1: 21 (didn't get: Tavares, Rush (knew those vocals sounded familiar but couldn't place the group in time), Ricky Ross, Marilyn)
Round 2: 27 (didn't get: Sweet Sensation, Tin Tin Out, Suzi Quatro)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Dakota, Handbags & Gladrags and Mr. Writer)
Poor neglected Eurovision category as ever </3
happy to have got Jethro Tull - their vocals have become quite recognisable to me since getting into 'The Witch's Promise'
Eurovision snubbed as a bonus category again!
Round 1: 36 - didn't get Marilyn. Radio 4 was a lucky guess, I've no recollection of that making the Top 40
Round 2: 24 - didn't get Purely By Coincidence, Suzi Quatro, Jethro Tull. Not at all jealous the contestant is going to see Bruce Springsteen 6 times this year (couldn't get any tickets myself)
Three in ten: 3 - Pick A Part That's New, Just Looking, The Bartender And The Thief
Round 1 : 15 Didn't get Nobody Knows, the year, Ricky Ross, Marilyn, Radio 4, Tom Odell
Round 2 : 30 Didn't get Sweet Sensation, Damian Rice
Round 1 was a disaster after getting the first 3 questions right. I managed to redeem myself in round 2.
3 in 10 - 2 Dakota, Handbags And Gladrags
did badly today, my brain wasn't working. Out late (for me) last night ironically at a quiz where we blew out over a question about Scottish Whisky being wrong. Whisky In The Jar had popped up on my car CD on the way, so it wasnt as if there were no warning. Excuses excuses...!
I forgot: Ricky Ross, Marilyn's single (I follow him on Twitter), Tom Odell's Beatles cover, a word in the Tin Tin Out title wrong when I've spoken to actual Tin Tin Out's Shelley Nelson's mum at one of her Radio 1 roadshow's, and I didnt know the Radio 4 question at all.
I barely managed to get 3 in 10 in time too. When I say "barely" I mean I was rattling 2 of them off after 10 seconds.
Round 1: 15 - Rush -6, Tony Rich Project -3, Ricky Ross -6, Marilyn -3, Radio 4 -6 [guessed Radio 3]
Round 2: 21 - Sweet Sensation -6, Suzi Quatro -3, Jethro Tull -6, Sheryl Crow -3
3 in 10: Dakota, Maybe Tomorrow, Have a Nice Day
Round 1: 33 (didn't get: Steve Arrington, Racy)
Round 2: 24 (didn't get: 1997, Rod Stewart/Robert Palmer/Maxi Priest, Big Mama Thornton - like the contestant I could only remember "mama")
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Smile, The Fear, LDN)
Happy to be back in the 30s today for at least one round
Round 1: 33 - didn't get Bee Gees
Round 2: 33 - didn't get Big Mama Thornton. I got Robert Palmer for the bonus question before
Tiebreakers: 4/6 - didn't get the 1st & 3rd questions: one was Eartha Kitt (sorry Julian!) can't remember the other
Three in ten: 3 - Smile, LDN, Alfie
Round 1 : 33 Didn't get Bee Gees
Round 2 : 27 Didn't get Joss Stone, the year, Big Mama Thornton
I only got one of the six tie-break questions
3 in 10 : 2 Not Fair, The Fear
Round 1: 33 - didn't get Cherry Pink And Apple Blossom White but I really should have, to give me a perfect day!
Round 2: 39
Three in ten: 3 - Love Me Like You, Shout Out To My Ex, Sweet Melody
Round 1: 24 (didn't get: The Psychedelic Furs, Pulp - oops said Suede, Ashford & Simpson, Belinda Carlisle)
Round 2: 39
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Wings, DNA, Salute) I knew all of the answers in round 2 apart from 'Streets of London' which was a lucky guess. Breathed a sigh of relief when that final question arrived.
Snap on the Round 2 full houses - well done Jade!
Well done on the full houses. I was closer on Round 1. Just one year out.
Round 1 : 36 Didn't get 2002, I thought it was 2003
Round 2 : 27 Didn't get Leann Rimes, Avril Lavigne, Pixie Lott
3 in 10 : 3 Shout Out To My Ex, Black Magic, Cannonball
Wed:
R1: 33 - Steve Harrington -3, Racy -3,
R2: 21 - Bad Manners -3, 1997 -3, 'Some Guys Have all the luck' -6, 'Hound Dog' -6
Tiebreak: only knew James and Rick Waller
3 in 10: Smile, The Fear, Not Fair
Thu:
R1: 30 - Psychedelic Furs -6, 'In Too Deep' -3
R2: 33 - 1990 -3, Swing Out Sister -3
3 in 10: Touch, Wings, Love Me Like You
Round 1: 33 - didn't get Maxine Nightingale
Round 2: 24 - didn't get It Must Be Love (memory fail), Dave Berry, Jukebox Jive. Lucky-ish guess on the Alison Moyet one
Three in ten: 3 - September, Let's Groove, Star
Round 1: 24 (didn't get: 1977 (one year out just like the contestant!), Malcolm McLaren, Maxine Nightingale, Bananarama)
Round 2: 21 (didn't get: Labi Siffre, Dave Berry - had Roy Orbison in my head but that was 'Crying', Eddi Reader, The Rubettes)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Let's Groove, September, Boogie Wonderland)
today's Round 1: one wrong (I consistently can never remember the name of Sam Bailey and pretty much everyone named Sam or James over the last decade there's so many of 'em!
Round 2: one year out.
3 in 10, easy one for me (its 70's)...
Round 1 : 21 Didn't get Sam Bailey, Kaiser Chiefs, Maxine Nightingale, More More More
Round 2 : 18 Didn't Get Labi Siffre, the year, records, Dave Berry, Eddi Reader
3 in 10 : 3 September, Boogie Wonderland, After The Love Has Gone
R1: 33 - Maxine Nightingale -6
R2: 15 - 'It Must Be Love' -6, Dave Berry -6, Eddi Reader -3, 'Jukebox Jive' -3, 'Love Resurrection' -6
3 in 10: September, Boogie Wonderland, Fantasy
Round 1: 15 (didn't get: Bono, Elvis Costello, Jane Wiedlin - argh I remember this being in the #1 Album sessions but couldn't recall the title, Marty Wilde, Rod Stewart)
Round 2: 36 (didn't get: Red Box)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (My Happy Ending, I'm With You, Girlfriend)
That first bonus category was as much of a nightmare for me as it was for the contestant
'Oh Julie' was #1 in a recent TOTP repeat which helped me get the year before Kraftwerk were even mentioned
Round 1: 30 - didn't get the last two, Marti Wilde, Temptations
Round 2: 39
Three in ten: 3 - Complicated, I'm With You, Girlfriend
Round 1 : 27 Didn't get Bono, Marty Wilde
Round 2 : 39
Maroon 5 was a lucky guess in Round 2 or maybe my brain has a tiny memory of seeing the song mentioned on Buzzjack before.
3 in 10 : 2 My Happy Ending, Complicated
A bit late: Round 1: Got Bono's Christian real name wrong! I consider that 3 points off
Round 2: Full house to make a hat-trick of Buzzjack Round 2 full houses and one nearly!
2 only for 3 in 10, had a mind freeze for the big hit. Quite happy to rattle off her current non-hit title which is the best thing she's done though I'm A Mess, I guess....!
R1: 18 - Bono -6. Elvis Costello -6. Marty Wild -6. Temptations -3
R2: 24 - Meat Loaf -3. 1982 -3. Undertones -6.
3in10 - Complicated, What the Hell, Sk8er Boi
Round 1: 39 hadn't heard that Shakatak song but I knew they had one of that name
Round 2: 36 - one year out, noooo! :Perfect day gone I was leaning towards the correct answer, then for some reason I thought Mamma Mia was the year before, oops
Three in ten: 3 - Go Your Own Way, Dreams, Don't Stop
Round 1: 27 (didn't get: Shakatak, The Eagles)
Round 2: 30 (didn't get: The Four Tops, 1976 (one year out), Fine Young Cannibals)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Everywhere, Albatross, Go Your Own Way)
Nice one, Jim. Funnily enough I chose 1975 as well because of 'Mamma Mia' - I guess I associate it with being #1 next to 'Bohemian Rhapsody' - "Mamma Mia let me go!" but didn't think about how that began quite a long stay at #1 at the tail-end of 1975, so this would spill into the next year
Yeah, I actually forgot about Mamma Mia coming after Bohemain Rhapsody until afterwards. I just remembered it came before Fernando and Dancing Queen, also in 1976. Great scores anyway!
Round 1 : 27 Didn't get The year, Zara Larsson, Ringo Starr
Round 2 : 30 Didn't get Mika, The Simpsons
3 in 10 : 3 Little Lies, Everywhere, Big Love
well done Jim, you beat me! Round 1 I couldn't bloody recall one single word for Zara larssons ....Life, doh! It's always the recent ones that get me....I wouldnt mind but I bought and charted the bloody thing!
Doing a big catchup after falling behind a bit again whooops. Here are all of last week's and will do another post for yesterday & today. (I probably don't really need the spoiler tags any more for these older ones but I'll include them anyway just in case!)
Monday 30th (9 years early on round 1)
Round 1: 18 (missed 1988 (-3), Bruce Foxton (-6), 'Solid Gold Easy Action' (-3), Bruce Hornsby And The Range (-6), 'It's Too Late' (-3))
Round 2: 24 (missed Joan Armatrading (-3), Five Star (-3), Johnny Mathis (-6), 'Stay With Me' (-3))
3 in 10: 3/3 ('Haven't Met You Yet', 'It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas', 'Holly Jolly Christmas')
~
Tuesday 31st (4 years early on round 1) ('Nobody Knows' in round 1 was a guess!)
Round 1: 18 (missed Tavares (-3), Rush (-6), 2000 (-3), Ricky Ross (-6), 'Calling Your Name' (-3))
Round 2: 18 (missed 'Purely By Coincidence' (-6), 'Here's Where The Story Ends' (-3), Suzi Quatro (-3), Jethro Tull (-6), 'A Change Would Do You Good' (-3))
3 in 10: 3/3 ('Dakota', 'Maybe Tomorrow', 'Have A Nice Day')
~
Wednesday 1st (1 year late on both rounds) (A lot of half remembered answers / near misses here - as well as being 1 year out twice, I said 'Listen To Your Heart' for 'Tell It To My Heart', 'The Last Time' for 'First Time' and Mama Cass for Big Mama Thornton ooops Also I did recognise Howard Jones but was just blanking on his name, and really ought to have got Blue too, so could have got much better scores here but ah well x)
Round 1: 15 (missed Bee Gees (-6), 1992 (-3), Howard Jones (-6), 'Feel So Real' (-3), Racey (-3), 'Tell It To My Heart' (-3))
Round 2: 21 (missed 'Special Brew' (-3), 1997 (-3), 'First Time' (-3), Big Mama Thornton (-6), Blue (-3))
Tiebreaks: 0/6 lol (yet to know a single answer to a tiebreak question since I started listening)
3 in 10: 3/3 ('Smile', 'LDN', 'The Fear')
~
Thursday 2nd (3 years early on round 2) (And another half remembered one here as I said 'Lily Pink And Cherry Blossom White' lmao, was partly mixing it up with 'Lily The Pink' in my head I guess. Lionel Richie was a bit of a bad miss as I confused 'Dancing On The Ceiling' with 'Dancing In The Street' and said David Bowie whoops x The Pink Panther theme and John Farnham both showing up as answers though *.* + need to check out The Psychedelic Furs' song as it sounded cool)
Round 1: 18 (missed Lionel Richie (-3), The Psychedelic Furs (-6), 'Cherry Pink And Apple Blossom White' (-6), 'Solid' (-3), 'In Too Deep' (-3))
Round 2: 27 (missed 1991 (-3), Swing Out Sister (-3), 'Rock Your Baby' (-6))
3 in 10: 3/3 ('Wings', 'DNA', 'Sweet Melody')
~
Friday 3rd (7 years early / 2 years late) (I knew I'd recognise the Labi Siffre song but not sure I'd ever have been able to recall it. The second year question was quite a bad miss, I forgive myself not knowing older years but anything within the existence of BuzzJack I have no excuse for whoops...! Otherwise tough questions on round 2 for me, including another Alison Moyet question which per tradition I couldn't get as I could only think of Annie Lennox songs )
Round 1: 24 (missed 1977 (-3), 'Buffalo Gals' (-3), Maxine Nightingale (-6), 'More, More, More' (-3))
Round 2: 12 (missed 'It Must Be Love' (-6), 2014 (-3), Dave Berry (-6), Eddi Reader (-3), 'Jukebox Jive' (-3), 'Love Resurrection' (-6))
3 in 10: 2/3 ('Boogie Wonderland', 'September') - so close to a full house of 3/3s for last week but alas drew a blank after the 2 here, not many others I recognise from their list of hits
R1: 24 - Shack Attack -6. Ringo Starr -6. Madness -3.
R2: 27 - Four Tops -3. Fine Young Cannibals -3. Simpsons -6.
3in10: Dreams. Go Your Own Way. Albatross.
And completing the catchup, hopefully I will finally be back on the ball again after today
Yesterday:
Round 1: 18 (missed Paul Hewson (-6), Declan MacManus (-6), 'Rush Hour' (-3), Marty Wilde (-6))
Round 2: 6 (missed 'Not A Dry Eye In The House' (-3), Marc Almond (-6), 1982 (-3), The Undertones (-6), 'Love Can Build A Bridge' (-3), The Stylistics (-3), Dina Carroll (-6), Red Box (-3))
3 in 10: 3/3 ('Sk8er Boi', 'Complicated', 'I'm With You')
Had no clue for any of the bonuses in round 1 but nearly a full house on the non bonus questions, spoiled by yet another half-remembered answer as I said 'Golden Hour' instead of 'Rush Hour', JVKE on the mind clearly. (I am giving myself the points for Bob Marley & The Wailers, I also just said Bob Marley but Ken would have prompted me like he did with the real contestant so ~ Also The Temptations was a total guess!)
A mare on round 2 though whoops - another case of me getting the year right and then changing it in my head grr (2 years early), otherwise I nearly guessed the Meat Loaf title correctly but for some reason said 'Not A Dry Tear In The House' instead of 'Eye' despite that making no sense :') maybe Ken would have given me 2 points for that x Also I confused 'Love Can Build A Bridge' with 'Ferry Cross The Mersey' oop.
~
Today:
Round 1: 24 (missed Shakatak (-6), 1994 (-3), Eagles (-6))
Round 2: 27 (missed The Four Tops (-3), Fine Young Cannibals (-3), 'Walk On By' (-3), Madonna songs order (-3))
3 in 10: 3/3 ('Dreams', 'Go Your Own Way', 'Everywhere') - have got 6 out of 7 of these in my catchup session today, and 2/3 on the other one, good going for me
Once again got the year right for round 1 with my initial gut reaction then changed it to a year later arrrgh. Frustrating every time. Probably should have got Eagles too but never even heard of the artist for the first bonus so no kicking myself there.
3/3 bonuses for round 2 yass - I saw The Simpsons were in the podcast title for an earlier episode and was disappointed I couldn't whip out the iconic 'Deep, Deep Trouble' as an answer but could do for today!!! I saw that on an old Top of the Pops episode I watched with Jade a while ago and we made a bit of a meme of it haha. I think this was the first 'put these songs in order of release' question I've got wrong since I started playing though aw (I got 'Holiday' 1st correct but then got 'Human Nature' and 'Hollywood' the wrong way round).
I am crying at the fact that 3 people got a full house in yesterday's round 2 and Jade also got a 36, meanwhile I got 6 which was my joint worst score ever *_*
Round 1: 33 (didn't get: Thin Lizzy, The Rolling Stones - got 'Paint It, Black' right but the other two the wrong way round)
Round 2: 33 (didn't get: Bon Jovi)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Lost In Music, Frankie, He's the Greatest Dancer) - surprised that 'We Are Family' didn't come into my head
All of the 3s
I was so happy when the first contestant chose the #1 hits category! (the opening question being a Beatles one was pretty neat too)
A question about Shakespear's Sister ahead of tonight's listen through though *.*
Round 1: 36 - all going great until the final question - same as Jade, as I wasn't sure when Start Me Up was released.
Round 2: 33 - didn't get Hello I Love You, although I was considering it and settled on Touch Me which didn't even chart
Three in ten: 3 - We Are Family, Thinking Of You, Lost In Music
Round 1 : 27 Didn't get Thin Lizzy, Ed Sheeran, Franz Ferdinand
Round 2 : 21 Didn't get The Doors, the year, Bon Jovi, Lewis Capaldi
3 in 10 : 2 Lost In Music, Frankie
Round 1: 27 (missed 'Waiting For An Alibi' (-3), Marcella Detroit (-3), 'Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go' (-6))
Round 2: 21 (missed 'Sisters Are Doin' It For Themselves' (-3), 'Hello, I Love You' (-6), Bon Jovi (-6), Diana Ross songs order (-3))
3 in 10: 0/3 - I recognise a couple of the songs on their list of hits but would never have been able to name them whoops. I was also confusing them with The Pointer Sisters as the contestant did!
Oops at blanking on Marcella Detroit's name considering the listenthrough about to happen! Also a little annoyed I didn't just guess Bon Jovi for that round 2 bonus as I did think it sounded like them. My guess for Wham! was 'Club Tropicana' which wasn't even a #1 ooops + the Diana Ross one was a total guess as I didn't recognise any of the songs named, I got the first two the wrong way round.
Round 1: 24 (didn't get: 1985 (one year out!), Sylvia, Bachman-Turner Overdrive (completely froze on the spot despite being familiar with this), Styx)
Round 2: 15 (didn't get: Scott English, Dee Clark, The Beat, George Harrison, Lynsey de Paul)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Oops!... I Did It Again, ...Baby One More Time, Toxic)
That second bonus round was brutal oops at me not recognising George Harrison from that clip. I was hoping for 'Crazy Horses' and 'A Horse With No Name'
Round 1: 39
Round 2: 24 - didn't get the first two bonus questions, Lynsey de Paul (I didn't like the sound of either of those bonus question sets)
Three in ten: 3 - ...Baby One More Time, Sometimes, Toxic
Round 1 : 39
Round 2 : 12 Didn't get Scott English, Fun Loving Criminals, Dee Clarke, I Want You Back, George Harrison, Lynsey de Paul
The second round was much more difficult. The woman was really unlucky to be given those questions.
3 in 10 : 3 Baby One More Time, Born To Make You Happy, Lucky
yes super difficult 2nd round today, poor woman, the 2 rounds couldn't be more different
I got a full house for everything...!
(OK I cheated with I Want You Back, I forgot the title before the rundown ended and then I said it before Ken said it! ) So I didn't really get everything....
Round 1: 24 (missed 1985 (-3), Sylvia (-3), Bachman-Turner Overdrive (-6), 'Babe' (-3))
Round 2: 9 (missed Scott English (-6), 1980 (-3), Fun Lovin' Criminals (-3), Dee Clark (-6), The Beat (-3), George Harrison (-6), Lynsey De Paul (-3))
3 in 10: 3/3 ('Toxic', 'Everytime', '3')
2 years and 8 years early respectively for the year questions. I made the same guess as the contestant for the Styx/Take That question.
Echoing the general sentiment that round 2 was really hard, especially the bonuses, so I'm glad I wasn't alone in that (although I still got an even lower score than everyone else as usual ) - it was very nearly a 6 again as it took me ages to recall 'I Want You Back' but I just barely got it before Ken read out the answer (thanks to the contestant not knowing it) so I'm counting that
That's probably the quickest I've ever got a 3 in 10 although I have no idea why that third song came to mind first over so many other more obvious options x
Well done to a few people on full houses again today my wait to have any chance at one continues x
Round 1: 33 (didn't get: Barry Manilow - can't remember the last time I got the first question wrong, Fun Boy Three - an annoying miss)
Round 2: 15 (didn't get: 1996 (two years out), Roxette, Jim Gilstrap, The Rezillos, The Swinging Blue Jeans - soooo annoying as I really like 'You're No Good' but forgot what it was called in the moment, Rick Astley)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (I Turn To You, Never Be The Same Again, When You're Gone)
Round 1 : 30 Didn't get Bruno Mars, Whitney Houston & George Michael, BWitched
Round 2 : 21 Didn't get The year, Jim Gilstrap, Rezillos, Swinging Blue Jeans
3 in 10 : 1 Northern Star
27 & 24, 2nd round more difficult as per usual
3 in 10 pretty easy
Round 1: 36 - didn't get the first question only, Barry Manilow
Round 2: 33 - didn't get Jim Gilstrap (who he)
Three in ten: 3 - Goin' Down, I Turn To You, Never Be The Same Again - I never feel comfortable using collabs in these, particularly as Ken specified solo hits this time, but the ones the contestant said were accepted. I did almost have a third non-collab, but got the title slightly wrong: Over The Horizon rather than On The Horizon
From yesterday:
Round 1: 27 (missed Barry Manilow (-3), 'Our Lips Are Sealed' (-3), 'If I Told You That' (-3), B*Witched (-3))
Round 2: 12 (missed 1996 (-3), Roxette (-3), Jim Gilstrap (-6), The Rezillos (-3), Republica (-3), 'You're No Good' (-6), Rick Astley (-3))
3 in 10: 2/3 ('Carolyna', 'Never Be The Same Again')
Really nice bonus questions in round 1 (argh at that random cover of 'In The Summertime' though) but a few tough normal questions, including question 1 oops. Round 2 started well but I was 1 year early for the year question and then had basically no clue for the rest, I maybe could have guessed Roxette but nevermind x
Probably should have got the 3 in 10 but my mind was still stuck on 'I Want You Back' from the other day, which is of course the wrong Mel. An old BJSC is the culprit for me somehow recalling a #49 hit over all of this artist's other top 10s I fully forgot 'I Turn To You' existed honestly, and I was trying to recall the Matt Cardle collab too but couldn't remember its title in time.
Actually only got 30 on Friday's Round 2 as I also didn't get Rick Astley
Round 1: 36 - didn't get Gallagher & Lyle
Round 2: 21 - didn't get 1983 (said 1985), Auf Wiedersehen Pet, Against All Odds as the film, Love Games
Round 1: 3 - Kiss From A Rose, Crazy, Killer (EP)
Round 1: 21 (didn't get: Marti Webb, Genesis, Gallagher and Lyle, The Sundays)
Round 2: 18 (didn't get: Go West - an annoying miss, Garbage, Joe Fagin, Phil Collins, Belle and The Devotions)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Kiss From A Rose, Killer, My Vision)
Got the second year due to handily looking through the OCC archives for the first half of that decade over the weekend
Movie questions are not my thing, justice for 60s hits x
Round 1 : 30 Didn't get Marti Webb, Gallagher & Lyle
Round 2 : 27 Didn't get Go West, the year, Garbage, Hozier
Shiver being played on the album session yesterday helped me get 2005 correct
3 in 10 : 3 Crazy, Kiss From A Rose, Killer
Round 1: 21 (missed 2005 (-3), Tell Me On A Sunday (-6), Genesis (-3), Gallagher & Lyle (-3), Savage Garden (-3))
Round 2: 21 (missed Go West (-3), 1983 (-3), The World Is Not Enough (-3), Auf Wiedersehen, Pet (-6), 'Love Games' (-3))
3 in 10: 2/3 ('Crazy', 'Killer') - can I count 'Killer' twice? oops though 'Kiss From A Rose' totally didn't come to mind at all somehow!
1 year late then 4 years late - the first year was an annoying miss because like Rollo I was helped out by 'Shiver' being at the #1 album session yesterday but unfortunately that only narrowed it down to 2 years and I guessed wrong oops!
A couple of lucky educated guesses here - The Sundays was a total guess just based on the name of the bonus category, and I didn't know Against All Odds was a film lol but just identified the song I guess though I wasn't certain even about that.
Round 1: 18 (didn't get: Kiss, Aztec Camera, Willie Nelson, Crazy Elephant)
Round 2: 18 (didn't get: Tracey Ullman, T'Pau, Eternal, Atlantic Starr)
Three-in-Ten: 2 (Another Brick In The Wall, See Emily Play) - oops said 'Comfortably Numb' but forgot that didn't chart
Wow this is really not my week so far! Happy to have got The S.O.S. Band as I listened to that song just the other day
Round 1: 27 - didn't get Willie Nelson, Crazy Elephant
Round 2: 21 - didn't get T'Pau, Ms Grace, Atlantic Starr, Let There Be Love
Wow the second contestant got 39! I didn't realise that meant the other contesntant got to do three in ten.
Three in ten: 3 - Another Brick In The Wall, Arnold Layne, See Emily Play - I intially thought of the same one as Jade
Round 1 : 12 Didn't get Kiss, the year, Willie Nelson, Dilemma, Crazy Elephant, Poly Styrene
Round 2 : 30 Didn't get The year, Atlantic Starr
3 in 10 : 3 See Emily Play, Another Brick In The Wall, High Hopes
got 24 and 24, crazy that the 2nd guy got 39
regarding the 3 in 10 today, would they had accepted Proper Education? Always thought it was Eric Prudz vs Pink Floyd but it's actually vs. Floyd, so not sure...
Round 1: 39
Round 2: 39
3 in 10 got 5 in 10 seconds.
Sometimes the questions just all go right (plus I'm much more alert doing this in the afternoon off t'podcast)

Well done yesterday John!
Round 1: 30 - didn't get Little Richard (I guessed Jackie Wilson as the host specified "no #1s in his lifetime" and he had one posthumously), 1975 (slightly out with 1971)
Round 2: 36 - didn't get Bob and Marcia
Three in ten: 3 - Money For Nothing, Walk Of Life, Romeo And Juliet
Round 1 : 33 Didn't get Blue Pearl, Paul Weller
Round 2 : 27 Didn't get Bob & Marcia, Toploader, Delta Goodrem, Boyzone
3 in 10 : 3 Walk Of Life, Private Investigations, Brothers In Arms
Round 1: 33 (it's hard to believe but I bloody went and got Adele's first number one title half wrong and then Paul Weller just rubbed it in)
Round 2: 39
3 in 10 not a prob.
was in the office today with someone pretty high up near me so thought I'd better not play PopMaster live
Round 1: 30 (didn't get: 1975 (four years out) - snap Jim!, Blue Pearl - confused this song title with Berri, Paul Weller)
Round 2: 18 (didn't get: Bob and Marcia, 1986 (two years out), Toploader, Showaddywaddy, The Chimes)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Money For Nothing, Walk Of Life, Romeo & Juliet)
'Waves' by Blancmange mentioned aka my initial entry for the first Best Song Contest In The World... Ever! before I switched *.*
Knew Janet Jackson was going to come up for that first category
The first question in round 2
Well done guys on the great scores in recent times glad to be back in the 30s for at least one round today.
Small catchup again!
Tuesday:
Round 1: 12 (missed 'God Gave Rock 'N' Roll To You II' (-6), 1998 (-3), Aztec Camera (-3), Willie Nelson (-6), Crazy Elephant (-6), Poly Styrene (-3))
Round 2: 9 (missed Tracey Ullman (-3), T'Pau (-6), 2004 (-3), Eternal (-6), The S.O.S. Band (-3), 'Ms Grace' (-3), Atlantic Starr (-6))
3 in 10: 2/3 ('Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2)', 'Wish You Were Here') - really should have recalled 'Hey, Hey, Rise Up' as well whoops, I did also think of 'Comfortably Numb' but I knew that one didn't chart so didn't write it down
Bit of a flop oops, 1 year out x2 (a year early then a year late) and had no clue about any of the bonuses (I guessed Crazy Dog for round 1 question 9 which was along the right lines) first time I've heard a contestant get a 39 though! I wonder if there's ever been an episode where both contestants got 39
~
Today (Wednesday):
Round 1: 27 (missed Little Richard (-6), 1975 (-3), Blue Pearl (-3))
Round 2: 15 (missed Bob And Marcia (-3), 1986 (-3), Toploader (-3), Showaddywaddy (-6), The Chimes (-6), 'Baby Can I Hold You' (-3))
3 in 10: 3/3 ('Sultans Of Swing', 'Money For Nothing', 'Romeo And Juliet')
A bit better! 4 years early and then 1 year late on the year questions. I got Paul Weller courtesy of the #1 albums sessions and Blancmange for the same reason as Jade
edit: I see there were a couple of others who were also 4 years early on round 1's year! And I also guessed Jackie Wilson instead of Little Richard for the same reason as Jim so feeling in good company with these wrong guesses today
Also whoever the guy filling in today was, he's very annoying oop. Bring back Ken or at least Spoony. x
Two rounds of 27 again, seems to be my usual score
When they reveal the topic I also thought a Janet question was coming
Round 1: 21 (didn't get: The Art Of Noise, 1991 (three years out), Debbie Gibson, Simon Park Orchestra - knew the song but couldn't remember the series, go away TV/movie questions x)
Round 2: 18 (didn't get: Bellamy Brothers - grr said "go" instead of "flow"!, Barbara Dixon, Belle & Sebastian, Squeeze, Johnny Logan - oh dear said his other winner 'Hold Me Now')
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Nine Million Bicycles, What A Wonderful World, Fields of Gold)
Round 1: 27 - didn't get 1991 (like Jade I was 3 years out with 1988), Debbie Gibson, the TV series for Eye Level
Round 2: 33 - didn't get Barbara Dickson
Three in ten: 3 - Closest Thing To Crazy, Nine Million Bicycles, The Flood - I've no recollection of her cover of Fields Of Gold being a hit in 2017
24, 24. 3 in 10 wasn't easy but got three
nice they asked about my teen crush and favourite singer as a kid, Debbie Gibson <3
the years were easy today I thought
Round 1: 15 (missed 'Ain't Nothin' Goin' On But The Rent' (-3), 'Close (To The Edit)' (-6), 1991 (-3), Debbie Gibson (-3), Van Der Valk (-6), Toni Braxton (-3))
Round 2: 18 (missed 'Let Your Love Flow' (-3), Barbara Dickson (-6), Belle And Sebastian (-3), Squeeze (-6), Michelle Gayle (-3))
3 in 10: 3/3 ('What A Wonderful World', 'Nine Million Bicycles', 'Fields Of Gold')
I think that's probably the most difficult 3 in 10 that I've managed to pull off so far x
1 year early for the round 1 year. Snap with Jade on a couple of things (as well as the 3 in 10 songs!) - I also got the word to complete the Bellamy Brothers song wrong but with a rhyming word, thought it was 'Grow' oops, and also couldn't name the series for Simon Park Orchestra but knew the song title.
I also finally managed to get a couple of tiebreak questions correct! Got the Morrissey and Paul Simon ones, for Rihanna I confused 'Pon De Replay' with 'SOS' whoops
Round 1 : 33 Didn't get The year, Debbie Gibson
Round 2 : 12 Much worse, didn't get Bellamy Brothers, Barbara Dickson, the year, Belle & Sebastian, Michelle Gayle, Lulu, Orson
I can't believe it's 11 years since James Arthur was on the X Factor, I thought it was about six years.
I got 2 of the 4 tie-break questions correct.
3 in 10 : 1 9 Million Bicycles
How come nobody knows Debbie Gibson!! you all go study, for a while she was huge, ala Britney
I know 'Shake Your Love' by her but that's about it
I only even recognise the name from people thinking it was her instead of Debbie Harry featured on that Dolly Parton song a few weeks ago lol
(looked up her chart history on Polyhex, if she was ever culturally even 10% as big as Britney it's certainly not reflected in that with her 0 top 5 hits and only 2 top 10s )
Round 1: 30 - didn't get Bruce Ruffin, Crystal Gayle
Round 2: 33 - didn't get the next line for Angie
Three in ten: 3 - How Can I Be Sure, I Think I Love You, Could It Be Forever
Round 1: 27 (didn't get: Bruce Ruffin, Crystal Gayle, Phil Collins)
Round 2: 24 (didn't get: Chuck Berry, Mr. Big, The Rolling Stones)
Three-in-Ten: 2 (Daydreamer, How Can I Be Sure) - could also recall the word Puppy from another song but couldn't remember the full title
Have just realised I Think I Love You was The Partridge Family rather than David solo - I did also think of Daydreamer just in time though
(I got 4/4 on the tiebreakers yesterday)
God the second woman today was shite!
Round 1 : 30 Didn't get The year, Bruce Ruffin
Round 2 : 12 Didn't get Shaky, the year, Chuck Berry, Mr Big, Rolling Stones, Emili Sande
The name the next line bonus round was tricky.
3 in 10 : 0 I couldn't even remember his number 1 singles
Round 1: 12 (missed Five Star (-6), 2007 (-3), 'I Can Make You Feel Good' (-3), 'Mad About You' (-6), 'Desire' (-3), Crystal Gayle (-3), 'Dance Into The Light' (-3))
Round 2: 12 (missed all of the 'next lines' (-6 x3), 1979 (-3), Dannii Minogue (-3), Mr. Big (-3))
3 in 10: 0/3 - I made the same mistake as I did once before iirc saying 'Daydream' instead of 'Daydreamer' lol (he does have songs with both of those titles but 'Daydream' wasn't a hit). Would never have got any others anyway though
Lord I cannot think of a bonus round that is less suited to me than that 'next line' one I did at least get 1/6 bonuses today by managing to completely guess Aswad but otherwise a disaster oops. Was 1 year early for both years as well :'( I should have got Mr. Big too, could picture the music video in my head but just couldn't recall the band name!
Round 1: 39 lucky guess for Lean On Me as the Mud cover and lucky-ish with the year!
Round 2: 30 - didn't get Paul Anka (50/50 between him and Adam Faith and I chose wrong), Snowy White
Three in ten: 3 - True, Gold, To Cut A Long Story Short
^ Congrats on the R1 full house!
Round 1: 33 (didn't get: The Brand New Heavies, Tight Fit)
Round 2: 33 (didn't get: Sharam 69, Snowy White)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Gold, True, To Cut A Long Story Short)
All of the threes!
Great scores across the board Jade, I wasn't 100% sure it was Tarzan Boy in Round 2, good song though!
Round 1 : 30 Didn't get The year, Brand New Heavies, Mud
Round 2 : 30 Didn't get Amy Grant, George Ezra, Beverly Knight
Consistent with 30 today.
3 in 10 : 3 True, Gold, Through The Barricades
I got the same three songs as two others here.
33 and 33 too
and how amazing it was one of the questions was about Tori Amos-Cornflake Girl
missed just the a couple oldies questions each time
thought today's questions were easier than usual, especially R1
only got 2 for the 3 in 10, not an early 80s music fan
Can we have some less encyclopaedic people playing this please so I don't keep embarrassing myself posting low to middling scores on days when everyone else is effortlessly getting 30+! (congrats all in all seriousness tho
)
Round 1: 15 (missed Rick Astley (-6), 1988 (-3), 'Midnight At The Oasis' (-3), 'Lean On Me' (-3), Fugees (-6), Tight Fit (-3))
Round 2: 15 (missed Amy Grant (-3), 1993 (-3), Paul Anka (-6), 'Hurry Up Harry' (-3), 'Tarzan Boy' (-6), Snowy White (-3))
3 in 10: 3/3 ('Gold', 'True', 'Lifeline') - thanks #1 album sessions teaching me a third song from them beyond the obvious 2
Aside from better guessing at the years (was 6 years early then 4 years late today oop) I feel like the only other ones there that I should have got were Fugees and Amy Grant - the former I just forgot about entirely but then kicked myself when it was read out, while for the latter I got 'Big Yellow Taxi' and 'Joe Le Taxi' mixed up and said Vanessa Paradis although I am not sure I'd have been able to quickly recall Amy Grant's name anyway tbf. The rest ring no bells at all so 30+ scores were completely out of my knowledge limits today! (I did know Sham 69 had a song called 'Hurry Up England' which was of course a World Cup themed update of 'Hurry Up Harry' but had no clue at all about the original title oop)
Seconding the love for the 'Cornflake Girl' clip tho <3
15 is more than the contestants seem to get most days. Sometimes you can tell their minds go blank after getting 1 or 2 questions wrong, but when Ken asks how many they're aiming for or get when they're playing at home, many of them say somewhere in the teens. I'll take encyclopaedic as a compliment though!
Round 1: 36 (didn't get: Ultravox - slowly walking myself through their discography but didn't know that one well enough yet)
Round 2: 27 (didn't get: Queen, 1987 (two years out), Monsoon - an annoying miss as that song was mentioned on Scott Mills' show recently)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Lullaby, Friday I'm In Love, Lovesong)
A clip of 'The Legend of Xanadu'
was happy with those R1 retro questions, knew the year thanks to Edison Lighthouse
Only knew that Scarlet song because it was entered to BJSC back in the day when the rules were a lot more relaxed
Today's choice of 3-in-10 artist
Round 1: 36 - didn't get Ultravox nooo, I recognised the title. Well done to the contestant getting 39!
Round 2: 33 - didn't get 1987 (one year out with 88), Monsoon (couldn't come to me, I guessed Mirage)
Three in ten: 3 - In Between Days, The Lovecats, Lullaby
Post Popmaster song: ABBA - Eagle *.*
Round 1 : 36 for me as well I knew the year was 1970 or 1971 but went for 1971
Round 2 : 27 Didn't get Nirvana, The Mixtures, Ed Sheeran & Taylor Swift
3 in 10 : 3 Lullaby, The Walk, Love Cats
did poorly today, most questions were pre-85, so impossible for me
did 15 and 24 only
but the 3 in 10 was super easy
Back at work (and Popmaster) today.
Re: getting 15 points, Bre, if we were doing questions on just the last decade or 2 I would also be getting 15 points (If I'm lucky!) and you and Jade would be getting 39
Round 1: 39
Round 2: 36 (I hadn't a clue about the Ed & Taylor track)
3 in 10: rattled off 4 or 5.
Round 1: 24 (missed The Waterboys (-3), The Osmonds (-6), Ultravox (-3), 'Independent Love Song' (-3))
Round 2: 15 (missed 'Fat Bottomed Girls' (-6), 1987 (-3), Engelbert Humperdinck (-6), Monsoon (-3), The Mixtures (-3))
3 in 10: 3/3 ('Lullaby', 'A Forest', 'Friday I'm In Love')
I feel like I should have been able to get 36 on round 1 today (just missing Ultravox as well like a couple of others did), the others were all ones I knew but just couldn't recall quickly enough. Wow another person getting 39 in quick succession! Like buses they are x
Very frustrating on round 2 as I got the Queen question correct with my gut instinct but then changed to 'You're My Best Friend' for some reason Though no kicking myself over any of the others. 2 years late for the year.
Round 1: 30/31 - didn't get Melba Moore, Mott The Hoople although for the latter I guessed Rock instead of Rock And Roll so might have got a point for that
Round 2: 27 - didn’t get Nicky Thomas, Bob & Marcia (I thought there'd be mostly pre-1980 songs in this category, and they all were!)
Three in ten: 3 - This Is A Call, Everlong, All My Life
Round 1 : 9 Didn't get James Blunt, Joan Osbourne, the year, Melba Moore, Mott The Hoople, La Roux, When We Collide
I think that might be my worst ever score, I should have got the last two but just couldn't think of them.
Round 2 : 18 Didn't get The year, Nicky Thomas, Santana, Bob & Marcia, Tiffany
3 in 10 : 0 I couldn't even think of the song that was in the no.5 poll and I had Walking Into You instead of Walking After You
27 and 15, 2nd round was very difficult with most questions being from the 70s
3 in 10 kinda easy, maned to name 10 in 10
33 round 1: Said 1975 instead of 1973 for James Blunt, Said Joan Ohhhhhhh for Joan osbourne
36 round 2: got all the reggae questions but had a momentary memory lapse on one of the others, and Ive had a memory lapse on the memory lapse.
2 only on the 3 in 10. I always struggle to recall their songs, much as I like most of them.
I couldn't listen in the office so I awkwardly tried to catch up on my phone during my lunch break. However, it crashed after R1 so had to wait until I got home to finish
Round 1: 30 (didn't get: Melba Moore, Mott The Hoople)
Round 2: 21 (didn't get: Jona Lewie, Nicky Thomas, Bob and Marcia, Tiffany)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Best Of You, The Pretender, Times Like These)
Feeling a bit better about my scores today
Round 1: 27 (missed 1995 (-3), Melba Moore (-6), 'The Golden Age Of Rock & Roll' (-3))
Round 2: 18 (missed Nicky Thomas (-6), 'Kiss The Rain' (-3), Santana (-3), Bob And Marcia (-6), Tiffany (-3))
3 in 10: 3/3 ('Best Of You', 'Rope', 'Monkey Wrench')
2 years late for the second year question in round 1 - I knew it wasn't 1996 but was a 50/50 on if it was the year before or the year after oop.
In round 2 I got all of the first 5 questions but none of the last 5, think that may be a first! Think this is the second time Bob And Marcia has been an answer recently, must remember this as a stock guess for reggae related questions I think I did know Santana in the back of my mind but not kicking myself too much.
Easy 3 in 10 for me but not sure why I went for that second song over some of their more iconic / better songs, that's just the way my brain decided to work this evening!
Round 1: 30 - didn't get Shirley Bassey, Wee Papa Girl Rappers. The ABBA question was sneaky, I got it but several of their songs have the same word(s) repeated
Round 2: 36 - only didn't get the last question! Steve Gibbons Band - I also guessed Miller even though I knew they had multiple Top 40 hits
Three in ten: 3 - Blue Monday, True Faith, Fine Time
Round 1: 27 (didn't get: Shirley Bassey, Wee Papa Girl Rappers, Toyah)
Round 2: 21 (didn't get: The Bay City Rollers, Scritti Politti, The Honeyz - boo when their name came up I could only think of 'End of the Line', The Steve Gibbons Band)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Regret, Blue Monday, True Faith)
I was actually listening to 'Hips Don't Lie' just before putting on Radio 2 and then it appeared as question 1!
Another fab 3-in-10 artist choice!
Round 1 : 27 Didn't get Abba, the year, The One I Love
Round 2 : 30 Didn't get Carly Rae Jepsen, Honeyz
I should have got the Abba and Carly Rae Jepsen questions but just couldn't think of the correct answer.
3 in 10 : 3 Blue Monday, Regret, Fine Time Spoilt for choice today
21 and 21, too many oldies questions
something I hate that no matter what they pick the bonus questions are mostly from the 70s, sometimes even older
3 in 10 almost too easy again
Weekly catchup time

Round 1: 18 (missed 1974 (-3), Shirley Bassey (-6), 'Wee Rule' (-3), Chuck Berry (-6), Toyah (-3))
Round 2: 27 (missed Bay City Rollers (-6), Scritti Politti (-3), Steve Gibbons Band (-3))
3 in 10: 3/3 ('Blue Monday', 'The Perfect Kiss', 'World In Motion') - was wondering if the latter might not be accepted due to technically being EnglandNewOrder but the contestant was allowed it so we count it! Another case where a song contest entry is responsible for me thinking of a more obscure answer over some more obvious ones
1 year late for the round 1 year. Pretty happy with these scores today though especially in round 2 as 'Boogie Oogie Oogie' was one I just barely managed to recall in time from the #1 albums sessions, while the Honeyz question was a bit of a lucky guess as that was the only song title from them that came to mind haha. I also said Steve Miller Band for the last question despite knowing it was obviously wrong lol x
Round 1: 36 (didn't get: Hall & Oates) - so close but really happy with that, thankfully 'The Floral Dance' clicked just in time
Round 2: 21 (didn't get: Manic Street Preachers - oops of course, 1973 (one year out), Peter Paul & Mary, Destiny's Child)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Umbrella, Hate That I Love You, Disturbia)
Fri
R1: 27 - 'Wham Rap' -3, 1990 -3, Terrance Trent D'Arby -6
R2: 15 - Manic Street Preachers -6, 1973 -3, Olivia Newton John -6, Peter Paul & Mary -6, 'Emotion' -3
Round 1 : 30 Didn't get The year, Hall & Oates, Travis
Round 2 : 21 Didn't get Manic Street Preachers, the year, Seal, Peter Paul and Mary
I was one year out on both years today.
3 in 10 : 3 Umbrella, Pon de Replay, Work
Catching up on yesterday - pretty close to a perfect day!
Round 1: 36 - didn't get Hall & Oates
Round 2: 36 - one! year! out! Like the contestant, I said1974 rather than 1973
Three in ten: 3 - Pon De Replay, SOS, Umbrella
Round 1: 31 maybe - didn't get Andy Kim, and I guessed "Fruitgum 1910 Company" instead of "1910 Fruitgum Company" so that might have cost me a couple of points
Round 2: 33 - didn't get Shakin' Stevens
Three in ten: 3 - I Kissed A Girl, Hot 'N' Cold, Teenage Dream
Round 1: 21 (didn't get: Andy Kim, Heart, 1910 Fruitgum Company, Split Enz)
Round 2: 30 (didn't get: The Chairman Of The Board, Hazel O'Connor, Paul Young)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (I Kissed A Girl, E.T., Part of Me)
Really shocked that I got all of the solo Queen questions right, really wasn't expecting that when the category was announced
Round 1 : 24 Didn't get Andy Kim, Snow Patrol, 1910 Fruitgum Company
Round 2 : 30 Didn't get Duffy, Chairmen Of The Board, Paul Young
3 in 10 : 3 Roar, Firework, Chained To The Rhythm
Poor Ken, just 4 to go, getting pushed out early by Logan's Run Carousel-inspired "go for the 90's generation" policies. Vernon Kay drafted in to appeal to game show fans and that all-important 90's/early 00's-too-old-for-Radio-1-now target audience....
Anyways, I got 36 round 1 (Snow Patrol I went for Set Fire To The Third Bar )
Round 2: 34 I got Duffy wrong, and couldnt get the full title of Paul Young's Otis Blue out, but mentioned Otis so graciously gave myself 1 point
3 in 10 (rattled off I Kissed A Girl, Firework and then went down a one-way street shouting out Lion! No Tiger! Got Roar just after the 10 seconds expired instead of just going Chained To The Rhythm or Hot n Cold)
^I got the ones you missed, we should do a joint participation ;D
Round 1: 33 (didn't get: Champagne, Ruby Winters)
Round 2: 39
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Should I Stay Or Should I Go, Rock The Casbah, London Calling)
Yay my third ever full house for a singular round!
Those round 1 bonus questions also *.* happy that I managed to recall 'Pipeline' from old 60s charts as it was only a low top 20 hit
That Yazoo question was good timing as I recently made some 80s fantasy personal charts for fun and remember looking forward to 'Don't Go' making an appearance at some point after 'Only You' charted.
'Saturday Night' is following me around today, as I was listening to a podcast this morning where one of the hosts mentioned a noisy neighbour who plays it every Saturday without fail :')
also got 39 in R2 yay!!!!! pure luck in a few of those but made it
Yay well done
Well done both of you.
Round 1 : 30 Didn't get Pipeline, Ruby Winters
Round 2 : 33 Didn't get Yazoo, I knew it was Only You or Don't Go but chose the wrong one
3 in 10 : 3 Should I Stay Or Should I Go, Rock The Casbah, London Calling
Monday
R1: 15 - Andy Kim -6, 1982 -3, Miami Sound Machine -6, 1910 Fruit Gum Company -6, Split Enz -3
R2: 21 - 1994 -3, Shakin Stevens -6, Chairman of the Bored -3, Hazel O'Connor -3, Paul Young -3
Well done Jade and Bjork for your full houses on Round 2!
Round 1: 30 - didn't get Pipeline, Ruby Winters (same as Rollo)
Round 2: 39 for me too
Three in ten: 3 - London Calling, Should I Stay Or Should I Go, Tommy Gun
Regarding the Yazoo question, apparently Vince Clarke wrote Only You for Depeche Mode before he left, but the rest of the group weren't keen on recording it, so he kept it for his next venture - that's what led me to guess it was Yazoo's first hit.
what's this about Jade and Bjork beating me on Round 2!!! Well done!
Round 1: 36
Round 2: 36
3 in 10 was easy enough.
So I got the question with the song clip of Radiohead wrong: sorry to all the fans, the best I could offer was It's Not Creep. and I cant remember the other one I got wrong but it would have been recent relative to the old stuff I don't usually have a prob with...
Catchup post again (I did both Friday's and Monday's yesterday but didn't get around to posting them in here yet).
Friday:
Round 1: 27 (missed 1990 (-3), The Three Degrees (-3), Terence Trent D'Arby (-6))
Round 2: 15 (missed Manic Street Preachers (-6), Seal (-3), Olivia Newton-John (-6), Peter, Paul & Mary (-6), 'Emotion' (-3))
3 in 10: 3/3 ('SOS', 'S&M', 'We Found Love')
3 years late for round 1, managed to get the second year as a lucky guess iirc which makes a change!
I actually saw a spoiler of the Wham! question from Rollo posting about it in another thread before playing this round but I am pretty certain I'd have got it anyway so have still counted it. Think the only one I missed that I'm kicking myself over here was Seal featuring on the Jakatta song, didn't think I knew that but was an 'of course' moment as soon as it was revealed. I made the same wrong guess as the contestant confusing Olivia Newton-John with Karen Carpenter - it did kind of sound like her!
~
Monday:
Round 1: 6 (missed Sinitta (-3), Andy Kim (-6), 1982 (-3), Heart (-3), Miami Sound Machine (-6), 'Signal Fire' (-3), 1910 Fruitgum Company (-6), 'I Got You' (-3))
Round 2: 21 (missed 'Living Next Door To Alice' (-3), 'Too Much Love Will Kill You' (-6), either Chairmen Of The Board song (-3), Hazel O'Connor (-3), 'Now I Know What Made Otis Blue' (-3))
3 in 10: 3/3 ('I Kissed A Girl', 'California Gurls', 'Firework')
Oops a bit of a mare again on round 1 x what on Earth kind of name is 1910 Fruitgum Company anyway? - I was 1 year early for the year but had no clue for most of the rest, 'Set The Fire To The Third Bar' was the only fire related Snow Patrol song that came to mind quickly annoyingly. At least I'm still yet to get as low as 3 or 0
Round 2 got off to a bad start too but a lot better in the end although I demand a recount on that first bonus question - Brian May does in fact have 3 solo top 10 hits and I said 'Rockstar' lol. Although I did assume that probably wasn't going to be correct so I guess 'solo' meant 'as lead artist' in this case. I got the second bonus (Shakin' Stevens) right as a guess to be fair though. And I might have got the Chairmen Of The Board question if Ken gave me just a little more tarm! (jk I had no idea on that but wanted to make the joke xx).
~
Today:
Round 1: 21 (missed 2004 (-3), Siouxsie And The Banshees (-3), 'Pipeline' (-6), 'How 'Bout Us' (-3), Ruby Winters (-3))
Round 2: 18 (missed 'Love Hangover' (-3), 1981 (-3), 'Only You' (-6), Jackie Wilson (-3), Daryl Hall & John Oates (-6))
3 in 10: 3/3 ('Should I Stay Or Should I Go', 'Rock The Casbah', 'London Calling') - I don't actually time myself properly for these and I did take a little while to think of that last one after rattling off the first two so might have gone slightly over 10 seconds but I'll give myself the benefit of the doubt here x (the previous 2 3 in 10s were both very easy though so no doubt on those)
1 year out x2 today grrr (a year early on round 1 and a year late on round 2).
Jackie Wilson actually did come to mind but I didn't guess it for some reason oops! Also went for 'Don't Go' instead of 'Only You' whoops, not kicking myself over anything else, but cool to see a few people getting full houses again today, well done all x
I will note that the title of the podcast episode today actually contained a couple of spoilers - Gabrielle and Mariah Carey were both in the title despite being answers rather than questions. I think this is the first time I've noticed this being the case, I assumed they generally took care to avoid doing that but either that's not the case or they messed up today. Both questions I knew the answers to anyway but oops!
also ew at the answers to question 7 in both rounds (One Direction and Wheatus)
Round 1: 36 - didn't get Rockit in time, an annoying miss! Just about remembered Dennis Brown
Round 2: 33 - one year out after changing my mind from 1991 to 1992 oops, didn't get Born To Be Alive
I got 11/12 on the tiebreaker questions - only missed the last one! Nick Heyward although I nearly said Britney Spears for the Victoria Beckham question
Three in ten: - 3 Up The Junction, Cool For Cats, Labelled With Love
Almost made it again on R2, got 36, only missed that one about someone from the 70s I'd never heard before
but would have failed the 3 in 10, got 0/3, knew the name but no song titles
Round 1: 39
Round 2: 36, stupidly got the year wrong
and then it went severely downhill as I got most of the bonus questions wrong, eh what?!! Well done Jim, they were HARD!
Plus side I've seen Squeeze in concert twice (they are fab, classy songwriters and talk to the audience and do tracks on request) so 3 in 10 easy.
Round 1: 24 (Dennis Brown, Olivia Newton-John, Herbie Hancock (such an annoying miss as I really like 'Rockit' but had a mind-blank), The Jam)
Round 2: 27 (1991 (two years out), Everything But The Girl, Patrick Hernandez)
Three-in-Ten: 2 (Up The Junction, Cool For Cats)
Well done for all the great scores yesterday and today
So many tie-break questions
Round 1: 15 (missed 1986 (-3), Dennis Brown (-3), The Beach Boys (-6), 'Country Roads' (-3), 'Rockit' (-3), The Jam (-3))
Round 2: 18 (missed 1991 (-3), Odyssey (-3), Everything But The Girl (-6), 'Born To Be Alive' (-3), Aerosmith (-3))
Tiebreaks: got 7/12 (missed 'Homburg', Gloworm, 'A Night To Remember' (I said 'Ladies Night' so a quarter right ), 'Bang Bang' (went for '#thatPOWER', though in retrospect would be a little odd if there was a previous hit with that title) and 'Whistle Down The Wind' (I said 'Forever Autumn', mixing up my Heywards and Haywards, not that I know who Nick Heyward even is))
3 in 10: 2/3 ('Up The Junction', 'Cool For Cats') - impressed that I got 2 here as this is not an act I am very familiar with, can't say I recognise anything else in their discog
1 year early on round 1, third 'one year out' in a row but then 4 years early on round 2 x
Nothing else I am kicking myself over today. Though once again the podcast episode title contained spoilers, this time all 3 were answers rather than questions (Pulp, Sonique and Odyssey) - as it were I didn't know the Odyssey question anyway while the first 2 were easy, so these spoilers so far aren't unduly influencing my scores or anything, but still a bit worried one of them eventually will if this keeps happening!
Round 1 : 21 Didn't get Dennis Brown, Beach Boys, The Jam, Rihanna
Round 2 : 36 Didn't get Gordon Haskell
3 in 10 : 3 Hourglass, Cool For Cats, Up The Junction
I got 4 out of 12 on the tie-break questions.
Tuesday
R1: 18 - Siouxie and the Banshees -3, "Pipeline" -6, "How About Us" -3, "Pyramid Song" -6, Ruby Winters -3
R2: 27 - 1981 -3 [guess: 1982], "Only You" -6 [guess "Don't Go"], Jackie Wilson -3 – lucky guess: Diana Ross "Love Hangover"
3 in 10: Should I Stay..., Rock the Casbah, London Calling
Wednesday
R1: 24 - 1986 -3 [guess: 1984], Dennis Brown -3, "Rockit" -3, The Jam -6
R2: 24 - 1991 -3 [guess: 1988], Everything But the Girl -6, Aerosmith -6
Tiebreak:
got 8/12: Katie Melua, The Ting Tings, "A Night to Remember", Victoria Beckham, The Libertines, "Stop", Harry Styles, Sting
missed 4/12: "Homberg", Glowworm, "Bang Bang", "Whistle Down the Wind"
3 in 10: Up the Junction, Cool for Cats, Labelled With Love
Round 1: 36 - didn't get Soull II Soul - annoying to miss on that! I don't know either of those songs well though.
Round 2: 30 - didn't get Wilson Pickett, Godley & Creme
Scenes at Ken declaring a winner before realising it was a tie I got 2/4 on the tiebreakers - didn't get Phil Everly despite that song being in Gezza's thread yesterday oops, also one of the first two which I can't remember now - Edit: the Eurovision 1970 question.
Three in ten: 3 - Celebration, Get Down On It, Joanna
Round 1: 15 (The Who, 1974 (3 years out), Nick Heyward, Soul II Soul - annoying miss, John Miles, Billy Fury)
Round 2: 21 (Wilson Pickett, Godley & Creme, Shania Twain, Dollar)
Three-in-Ten: 2 (Celebration, Cherish)
Not my best day thought R2 would be for me when the bonus category was announced but that didn't quite work out, only knowing 1/3!
Round 1 : 24 Didn't get Soul Asylum, The Who, the year, Soul II Soul
Round 2 : 15 Didn't get Wilson Pickett, the year, Pussycat Dolls, Party For Two, Dollar, Time To Say Goodbye
Not a good day but I did get 3 out of 4 on the tie-break questions.
3 in 10 : 3 Cherish, Ladies Night, Tonight
not the bestest day, so many oldies questions
got 21 and 27
none in the tie-break, the questions were crazy difficult
and 0/3 in the final
Round 1: 18 (missed 'Runaway Train' (-3), The Who (-6), Soul II Soul (-3), either John Miles song (-3), Billy Fury (-6))
Round 2: 18 (missed Wilson Pickett (-6), 2002 (-3), Godley & Creme (-3), 'Party For Two' (-3), 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand' (-6))
Tiebreaks: got 1/4 (missed Mary Hopkin, Phil Everly (I know Gezza posted about this very recently in the 80s sales thread but the name didn't stick in the memory oops!) and 'It Might As Well Rain Until September')
3 in 10: 2/3 ('Ladies Night', 'Get Down On It') - as with yesterday, not an act I am super knowledgeable about so impressed enough that I got 2. Can I count 'Ladies Night' twice since they were also credited on the Atomic Kitten version? x
Two days with tiebreaks in a row! Not doing quite as well on today's, I did manage to educated-guess the first one ('The Tide Is High') though.
One year late on the second year - can't be often that I nail a 70s year but miss a 00s one.
I managed to get Nick Heyward purely because of that same song being a tiebreak answer yesterday also Siouxsie And The Banshees was a guess, suppose she has a fairly recognisable voice. And I made the same incorrect guess as the contestant naming Billy Preston instead of Wilson Pickett.
Round 1: 27 - didn't get Brother Louie, the Scott Fitzgerald duet, Instant Replay
Round 2: 24 - didn't get Expresso Bongo, Amazulu, Twiggy
Three in ten: 3 - Is There Something I Should Know, The Reflex, Save A Prayer
Ken's last show on Radio 2!
Round 1: 27 (didn't get: Modern Talking, Scott Fitzgerald/Yvonne Keeley, Dan Hartman/Yell (I remember hearing the latter on 1990 TOTP but couldn't get it))
Round 2: 21 (didn't get: Cliff Richard, Amazulu, Robert Plant, Twiggy)
Three-in-Ten: 3 (Is There Something I Should Know?, Hungry Like The Wolf, The Reflex)
A movie question in round 2 robbed of instrumentals x
36 in both rounds, and a full set of 3 in 10.
Just in case Ken pops onto Buzzjack (you never know!), a huge thank you for being an upbeat, reliable music enthusiast with such a positive attitude, charm and Eurovision supporter to boot for many decades, a mainstay of so many people's lives to improve their day and inject some fun. Total star, Ken!
...and what a great choice to end on - The End (medley) - The Beatles
