1989 has been published.

Posted by: dandy* 30th December 2023, 05:26 PM

Hope you don't mind but I'm popping a copy of the 1989 one in here as well as I think maybe a potentially different set of people will see it here than in pop.

Great idea to post it here, Dandy. Thanks

Are we to assume that anything on Disc 4 is disliked by you? biggrin.gif

Of course, I will judge your sequencing in the manner that I judge sequencing on Now compilations pirate.gif

I didn't actually listen to it but I did very consciously pop Sydney Youngblood and the PSBs among the house tracks on the basis that It's Alright was a pretty faithful cover of the Sterling Void track and If Only I Could was basically based around Raze 'Break 4 Love'

Admittedly the last few on disc one were the ones that I had left over but liked too much to be chucked on disc 4 - which you are correct in concluding I largely dislike them, although Gloria Estefan is a little hard done by laugh.gif

09 Marc Almond feat. Gene Pitney - Something’s Gotten Hold of My Heart
13 Linda Ronstadt & Aaron Neville - Don’t Know Much
17 Prince - Batdance

These are amazing.

The originals wouldn't have fitted there either, though.

I think you made a typing error *dandy - i think you meant to put Roy and Bananarama on disc 3 and bung Deacon Blue and Mike & The Mechanics on disc 4 laugh.gif

Posted by: Colm 2nd January 2024, 10:21 AM

Also, you introduce Will to Power only to put them on disc 4?

biggrin.gif

Posted by: awardinary 2nd January 2024, 10:32 AM

dandy will never attempt his own personal tracklisting again after this! tongue.gif

Who are you and what have you done with the real dandy*? 😕

Haha yes! I did start to just list things to see what I thought should be included and thought that was a big enough hit and was even bigger worldwide but I don’t like it… also looked at the big album sellers of the year so ended up with Chris Rea and INXS etc just because it seemed like those songs were popular enough to shift albums.

But then I got bored and rushed the rest in 30 mins before we went out the other day. Plus I liked the original choices on the whole

I don’t mind either of those but being awful wasn’t the only disc 4 criteria - they both definitely fit with the retro vibe of the beginning of the disc

It's great to get your contributions Dandy*. 🙂

I would have chose London Nights instead of Requiem and also added Tyree Cooper - Turn Up The Bass but it is a great tracklist!

Posted by: Colm 8th January 2024, 10:08 PM

I think London Nights would have been my preference too but Requiem felt more deserving.

Turn Up the Bass was on the long list.

1999 has arrived

Posted by: TheSnake 19th January 2024, 07:17 PM

'Texas - Summer Son' reminds me of the chimes trend, first Tamperer and Maya, then Steps - Tragedy then Texas - Summer Son...any other late 90s/2000 songs with chimes?

The Corrs - Runaway is a lovely song but you got me confused with "Tin Tin Out remix" for a moment there - just sounds like the standard radio version!

Yes, it was the version played on the radio in 1999, but it is a remix.

The original from 1995, which was a top ten hit in Ireland and Australia among other places at the time, sounds a lot less glossy and is heavier on the percussion. It was important to state the remix title as that’s the version we have included.

Posted by: TheSnake 19th January 2024, 07:58 PM

Ok thanks for the clarification, I didn't know that.

Posted by: Last Dreamer 19th January 2024, 08:50 PM

I prefer the original version of "Runaway".

I'm afraid not a biggest enough hit, Alex biggrin.gif Just the biggest hits and the groundbreaking qualify and loads of those had to get left off even so not enough space oops! smile.gif

Posted by: King Rollo 9th April 2024, 01:13 PM

I'm looking forward to seeing what you've chosen. 1979 is the start of the golden era of the singles chart which lasted until 1984.

Posted by: Severin 9th April 2024, 04:32 PM

Look forward to seeing what's on 1979. Definitely one of the most chock full of classics years for me, but it's right there in the period I started to realise music was my passion.
