They are so underrated cry.gif

17 6.15 See Ya

Thank you baby: 8.5 - Tombo, JosephStyles, Lukuzz
I wouldn't wanna be ya: 2 - Scene

The bubblegum pop of the first Atomic Kitten era, very much present in debut single Right Now, seemed to hit its peak with See Ya - a quirky pop song that, at the time, gave the girls their highest peak position of #6! Shockingly, this was the only song NOT to receive a 10 or 11 ohmy.gif Credit where it's due though, 6.15 really isn't a bad average for last place!

Posted by: Lukuzz 13th July 2020, 07:57 PM

See Ya is a nice little bop, so cute. Better than last imo but they had great singles

Posted by: JosephStyles 13th July 2020, 08:07 PM

16 6.26 Follow Me

Thank you baby: 10 - Simon, Rossco
I wouldn't wanna be ya: 3 - Mullo, vibe

The fourth Right Now single is one of their most underrated singles, both on Buzzjack and by the public! It only charted at #20, making Follow Me the only (fully released) single to miss the top 10, also being the only track not included on The Greatest Hits. It found some love on Buzzjack though, with two 10s!

Posted by: Slick 13th July 2020, 08:11 PM

I loved 'Follow Me' at the time but it's not very well known.

Posted by: Jay* 13th July 2020, 08:15 PM

See Ya didn’t deserve last! cry.gif My least favourite of theirs is probably the remix of Right Now... it takes some of the energy out of the original.

Follow Me is cute and definitely deserved more than #20 (which could be considered as being a big flop in those days). It is interesting that their label decided it was worthy of launching the album though, and why they were sitting on Whole Again at that moment in time!

Posted by: JosephStyles 13th July 2020, 08:26 PM

15 6.39 Cradle 2005

Thank you baby: 10 - Jonjo
I wouldn't wanna be ya: 4 - Nightcrawler, Feel_The_Fever, Tombo, HausofGhibli

The final proper single released by the group is the first track that features Jenny to drop out. Cradle 2005 was a re-recording of an album track from Right Now (issued as a promo single only in Taiwan) which saw Natasha sing all solos on the track. The 2005 version sees the vocals shared out between all three girls, and the song was released for World Vision a year after the girls split, peaking at #10 - their lowest charting single since Follow Me.

Posted by: Slick 13th July 2020, 08:27 PM

I thought 'Cradle' was very disappointing, particularly given they had split.

Posted by: JosephStyles 13th July 2020, 08:40 PM

14 6.56 I Want Your Love

Thank you baby: 11 - Lukuzz
I wouldn't wanna be ya: 1.5 - Scene

Another Kerry single drops, and this one she actually has vocals on...! I Want Your Love samples the theme from The Big Country, and was released as the group's third single. It charted at #10, spending only three weeks top 40 - their worst performer to date (though of course, Follow Me came directly after). It's the first single given a score of an 11 to drop out - sorry Lukuzz!

Posted by: Lukuzz 13th July 2020, 08:50 PM

I knew I Want Your Love wouldn't last long. Not many people rate it highly but it was the first song of theirs that caught my attention back in the day and it's just so fun and catchy, I love it.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 13th July 2020, 08:52 PM

'I Want Your Love' deserved better than that!

Posted by: Jonjo 13th July 2020, 11:56 PM

I'm looking at all these and thinking "this didn't deserve to be so low" but then I remember what's left and it's like... erm, maybe they do? Idk.

I'm surprised 'Someone Like Me' isn't out yet! Especially over the likes of 'See Ya' and 'I Want Your Love'.

'Follow Me' was a near career destroyer! They were so, SO lucky that the label decided to give one last push with 'Whole Again'. It's a shame coz 'Follow Me' is ridiculously underrated! 'Cradle' is STUNNING. It was always my favourite from their debut album anyway, but I love either version so much.

Posted by: Chemistry 14th July 2020, 08:51 AM

See Ya did not deserve to be the lowest ranking!

Follow Me is decent, but such a bad choice for a single. In the end it all worked out with Whole Again, but still, they were soooo lucky the label gave them one last shot.

Posted by: Spiceboy 14th July 2020, 09:59 AM

Can you imagine if the label hadn’t given them one more shot! What with Kerry leaving too they are so lucky Whole Again really took off when it did (although it’s a cracking song so it’s not totally luck). I wonder if Kerry ever regretted leaving at the time as obviously they went from being a boy that successful group to becoming one of the biggest pop groups in the country literally at the moment she walked!

I always thought that. 'Whole Again' was recorded and the video shot with her and then it took off after she left. Awful timing.

Posted by: Chemistry 14th July 2020, 10:47 AM

Kerry literally left the group the week before Whole Again was released. There's this performance of them on a Kids show, where she announces she is going to leave the band and this will be her last performance.

Just looking back, it's so hard to imagine Kerry being part of them. Or even being a popstar in general.

Posted by: Nina West 14th July 2020, 10:51 AM

Kerry left midway through the promotion of "Whole Again" - coz she was in the music video & did a few performances before the single's actual release. Then left the group due to her pregnancy & getting married to Brian McFadden. Yeah she probably has regrets about leaving the group literally just before they exploded, but she did manage to have a successful career of her own in TV.

I have been *lucky* enough to see Atomic Kitten perform live with Kerry Katona as part of the line-up (in the last 5-10 years), so for me, Kerry is very much part of the band.

How in the hell is 'Right Now '04' still in the running, it should be last, truly awful & sucked everything that was fun & great about the original.

See Ya - When this came out, they were seen as replacements for B*Witched (who were on their way out by this point) & this is a fun little track with a fast pace & fun beats, this doesn't deserve last place at all. Definitely weaker in comparison to Right Now, but it’s light and inoffensive.

Follow Me - A little bit of a departure from their first 3 singles & really liked this at the time, but can see why this stalled at the time, while its a nice & gentle track with some nice harmonies, its kinda flat & forgettable.

Cradle - Quite a lush track and feels like it has had a much stronger composition and production level. This definitely could have been bigger if released during their hey-day. But its #10 peak isn't terrible by any means.

I Want Your Love - Catchy, fast & hell of a lot of fun, it picks up the pace of their debut & adds 10. Thought this would have been higher, especially over 'Right Now '04' & 'Someone Like Me'. Yeah this is very dated, but still fun.

Posted by: Scene 14th July 2020, 11:22 AM

No real losses so far besides 'Cradle' which I've always found cute. blush.gif I'm hoping the Feels So Good era comes out on top - besides TTIH which I've always found overrated. kink.gif 'Be With You' and 'It's OK' to smash. cheer.gif

13 6.73 Love Doesn't Have to Hurt

Thank you baby: 10 - JosephStyles
I wouldn't wanna be ya: 0 - Cameron

The first Feels So Good single to drop was the final release from that album. Love Doesn't Have to Hurt completed their biggest era for singles success, charting at #4 - amazingly, the lowest peaking single of the era! I've always found the track very underrated, and I gave it its only score of 10. Meanwhile, Cameron gave it the only 0 given out in the entire rate...!

Posted by: Jonjo 14th July 2020, 12:17 PM

LDHTH is cute but it's probably their most MOR pandering to early 00's radio effort. Imo. Cute but lazy.

Posted by: Slick 14th July 2020, 12:33 PM

I LOVE 'Love Doesn't Have To Hurt.' One of the only Atomic Kitten songs I go back to.

Posted by: Chemistry 14th July 2020, 02:43 PM

Boo for someone giving that 0 points cry.gif Absolutely ADORE that song, Feels So Good has such an amazing singles run (although I have to admit that their biggest hit during that era is my personal least favourite out of the singles).

Posted by: vibe 14th July 2020, 02:54 PM

If you couple post sales info I would be very interested in that !!

Rate is going how I would have thought so far.

Quite convenient that WA was the last single as the probably would have been known as 1 hit wonders if released first.

12 6.82 Right Now 2004

Thank you baby: 10 - vibe, Simon, Tombo, Sarah
I wouldn't wanna be ya: 3 - Nina West, Hide&Seek

For the group's (intended) final single, serving both as the final Ladies Night release and the lead single from The Greatest Hits, the girls looked back at their debut single Right Now with a re-recorded and remixed version. The track, simply titled Right Now 2004, was bundled with Someone Like Me, reaching #8 in the singles chart. Its music video featured a montage of clips from their time together as a group. The track has the same average score as our #11, but that received an 11 while this did not!

Posted by: Nina West 14th July 2020, 09:25 PM

Love Doesn't Have To Hurt - Feels very middle of the road pop, its fine, but not one of their stronger singles & feels like a very safe single option. There were much better songs on their 2nd album such as 'Love Won't Wait', 'Feels So Good' or 'Softer The Touch', something more upbeat to end the era, instead of going down an already well-trodden path.

Right Now '04 - Completely butchered the fun original with this boring cookie cutter remix. That's all I have to say on the matter.

'Someone Like Me' or 'You Are' has to drop next surely...

11 6.82 Ladies Night

Thank you baby: 11 - schizo_spice
I wouldn't wanna be ya: 2 - pippa

Winning the tie thanks to an 11 from schizo_spice, Kool & the Gang cover Ladies Night just misses out on the top 10. Kool & the Gang approached Atomic Kitten to record an updated version of the song for The Hits: Reloaded, and it was subsequently included on their own third album and even made the title track. It peaked at #8 in the UK, their first single to miss the top 5 since Follow Me.

Posted by: Chemistry 15th July 2020, 04:38 AM

Ladies Night has always been a bit of a 'meh' release for me. It surely is a fun cover, but nothing really special.

Posted by: Herbs 15th July 2020, 06:29 AM

I Want Your Love is such an underrated 90s pop gem 😍

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 15th July 2020, 09:22 AM

I find their version of 'Ladies Night' a bit of a guilty pleasure. blush.gif

Shocking that Right Now 2004 made it that high, and I’m also pretty surprised that Someone Like Me is still in the running and Top 10... ohmy.gif

Ladies Night is a fun cover but it’s never been essential Atomic Kitten for me. Its #8 peak and first week sales were a bit of a step down from what they’d become accustomed to, but that was still 2 places higher than another new entry that week: Sugababes - Too Lost In You! I’ll always be amazed that TLIY didn’t do far better... but it seems that Three being #9 in that week’s album chart must have taken away a lot of potential singles buyers. Comparatively Ladies Night the album was #16. Atomic Kitten also outperformed Blue in that week, who missed the Top 10 for the first time with their cover of Signed Sealed Delivered.

1- MAD WORLD- Michael Andrews Ft Gary Jules (227,547)
2- CHRISTMAS TIME (DON’T LET THE BELLS END)- Darkness (222,561)
3- CHANGES- Ozzy & Kelly Osbourne (144,000)
4- PROPER CRIMBO- Bo Selecta (97,000)
5- HAPPY XMAS (WAR IS OVER)- The Idols (73,000)
6- LEAVE RIGHT NOW- Will Young (66,000)
7- SHUT UP- Black Eyed Peas (54,000)
8- LADIES NIGHT- Atomic Kitten (28,343)
9- I’M YOUR MAN- Shane Richie (28,000)
10- TOO LOST IN YOU- Sugababes (27,000)

That was also Christmas week if I'm not mistaken wasn't it? A really busy one too.

I even remember how Atomic Kitten were #11 in the first initial midweeks!

Posted by: Slick 15th July 2020, 10:22 AM

I really like 'Ladies Night' but I admit that it's not essential Atomic Kitten at all, and quite forgotten now.

I never realised they were released in the same week, crazy how Ladies Night beat them, especially since TLIY has become one of the Sugababes signature songs and is remembered very well up till now (especially compared to Ladies Night). TLIY does sound like a good that helps shift album, like it did with Three going back into the top 10 during the Christmas rush, which at the end of the day was more important obviously.

Posted by: Nina West 15th July 2020, 12:26 PM

Ladies Night - Actually forgot that this was still in the running. Its just o.k. I guess, nothing special, a typical early 00's cover. I think they were starting to wear thin by this point as they were just repeating the same format of = "ballad/mid-tempo - cover", & funnily enough would split the following year. However thanks to X-Mas sales this managed to outsell the lead single which sold around 60k, & 'LN' sold about 84k, despite the lead having a much higher peak.

10 7.08 Someone Like Me

Thank you baby: 11 - Hide&Seek
I wouldn't wanna be ya: 4 - Cameron, ElectroBoy, WinterFreeze

Someone Like Me was released alongside Right Now 2004 as the girls' intended final single. The album version is performed almost entirely by Liz, though the single mix saw shared vocals. It peaked at #8, and in the rate, it received Hide&Seek's 11 score.

Posted by: vibe 15th July 2020, 12:47 PM

Ladies Night only reached 8 due to being released at Xmas.

Posted by: Slick 15th July 2020, 12:57 PM

'Someone Like Me' is pretty but also dull. I remember being super disappointed that this was going to be their last single.

Posted by: JosephStyles 15th July 2020, 12:57 PM

9 7.58 If You Come to Me

Thank you baby: 10 - Hide&Seek, Scene, Chemistry, Rossco, Sarah, WinterFreeze, Lukuzz
I wouldn't wanna be ya: 4 - ElectroBoy, Tombo

All three Ladies Night singles fall out one after the other! If You Come to Me was released as the lead single, peaking at #3, in turn becoming the final Atomic Kitten single to reach the top 5. Though it didn't receive any scores of 11, it did receive a whole host of 10s, coming out as Buzzjack's favourite Ladies Night single.

8 7.65 Right Now

The very first Atomic Kitten single drops out here in 8th place. Right Now peaked at #10 in the charts, managing reasonable longevity despite its seemingly disappointing peak! Right Now set the tone for the first era and became the title track for the first era, later re-recorded with Jenny's vocals after Kerry left the group. It's the highest placed song in the rate not to have received anyone's 11!

Jay do you have anymore sales info for the other singles ?

Unfortunately this list is mostly very out of date (September 2009), but here we go!

1,200,000+ - Whole Again [20th March 2020]
600,000+ - The Tide Is High (Get The Feeling) [19th June 2020] {446,802 in September 2009}
412,501 - Eternal Flame
218,346 - It's OK!
182,695 - The Last Goodbye / Be With You
112,539 - Right Now
86,773 - See Ya
84,192 - Ladies Night
78,392 - If You Come To Me
65,211 - I Want Your Love
61,239 - Love Doesn't Have To Hurt
48,519 - Someone Like Me / Right Now 2004
41,628 - Follow Me
27,349 - Cradle 2005

The Tide Is High does very well on streaming! In May 2019 it had sold around 550,000 in total, so it increased by 50k+ in a little over a year. The Tide Is High has significantly more streams on Spotify (83.6m) than Whole Again (66.2m!) [worldwide streams].

The Last Goodbye/Be With You still not silver. sad.gif Sadly neither song has many streams - both have done around 2 million streams worldwide on Spotify.

Posted by: Nina West 15th July 2020, 07:01 PM

Someone Like Me - A simple yet beautiful sparse piano ballad, which maybe a little too simple & just felt like they were going through the motions by this point. However looking at the 'Ladies Night' album itself, this tracks is certainly one of the best, which isn't saying much as out of the 15 tracks on there, only the singles were worth listening too.

If You Come To Me - A fine piece of pop fluff that plays it way too safe by following the exact same formula as their previous hits with a lack of creativity & no progression. Harmless enough though, despite the lame music video.

Right Now - A great introduction to the group, which bounces along quite nicely & strong & catchy enough to hold its own against some of their bigger hits. Really loved this at the time, back when Atomic Kitten knew how to have fun, before turning into a female Westlife band.

Posted by: Nina West 15th July 2020, 07:06 PM

Eternal Flame or You Are to drop next..

Posted by: vibe 15th July 2020, 08:06 PM

Thanks Jay

Who would of thought that Tide Is High was the biggest steaming hit!!

Didn’t expect See Ya to be that high in terms of sales either.

To think The Tide is High was the hit for Billie that never was because she had enough of the music industry.

Posted by: Chemistry 16th July 2020, 06:07 AM

Someone Like Me is a nice, harmless song, but nothing too special for me.

I ADORE If You Come To Me, it's maybe not the most original song, but I have always loved it ever since it came out. Should have been higher! Also suprised to see the rather low sales, sales were very sad-looking back then.

Right Now is good product of it's time, but not one I listen to very much these days.

I have always been very surprised how this gets way more streams compared to Whole Again, as I always thought Whole Again was their signature song. Just like Pure Shores has way more streams compared to Never Ever for All Saints.

7 7.94 You Are

Thank you baby: 11 - Tawdry Hepburn, Rossco, JosephStyles
I wouldn't wanna be ya: 3 - Tombo

Intended as the final single from Right Now, You Are saw a release in certain territories around the world. Its intended UK release was scrapped despite a new single mix being recorded which, much like Someone Like Me later down the line, saw the vocals shared out instead of being performed by one member (Natasha in this case). The single mix also saw improved production! You Are still managed to chart at #90 in the UK off the back of imports, suggesting the demand in the UK was absolutely there. A missed opportunity but I'm glad it's finished in a respectable position here!

We move into the averages of 8 and above now as the girls' second #1 single drops out. Eternal Flame was the first cover version they released, as well as the first proper single campaign with Jenny. It became their second of three #1 singles and launched the re-issue of Right Now.

Thank you baby: 11 - pippa
I wouldn't wanna be ya: 4 - Tombo

The lead single from Feels So Good saw the introduction to a classier, more mature Atomic Kitten. The breezy, summery midtempo launched at #3 in the UK chart and spent 11 weeks in the top 40. Three more Feels So Good tracks remain in the top 4!

You Are was such a missed opportunity! cry.gif I remember the music video having so much airplay on music channels... it surely would have been a big hit for them.

I preferred (and still do prefer) Bootylicious by Destiny's Child, which went in at #2 in the week Eternal Flame went to #1, so I was a bit disappointed by that outcome!

I love It's OK! wub.gif

It's beautiful, whilst not being particularly innovative or original.

I think 'not particularly innovative or original' sums up the majority of Atomic Kitten's back catalogue laugh.gif

4 8.38 Be With You

Thank you baby: 11 - Nina West, Nick F1, gavindeejay, Scene, Monzo, schizo_spice

Teamed up with The Last Goodbye for a single release, Be With You was a brand new track at the time of its release. It was later included on a Feels So Good special edition released in Asia, making it firmly a part of that era despite its later inclusion on Ladies Night! The track samples Last Train to London by ELO, and the double A-side peaked at #2.

Top 3 coming tomorrow! Who are you backing for the win? ohmy.gif

The Last Goodbye
The Tide Is High (Get the Feeling)
Whole Again

Posted by: lewistgreen 16th July 2020, 10:24 PM

Omg it’s going to be Whole Again but I’m so stoked for The Last Goodbye doing this well

Posted by: Jonjo 16th July 2020, 10:25 PM

'Be With You' has aged brilliantly! A beaut! I stand by my opinion that it'd sound great on Dua's latest album!

I predict:

01. Whole Again
02. The Tide Is High
03. Last Goodbye

but I'd like the reverse, please laugh.gif

Joining for the top 3 because they're the only songs I know cheer.gif

Whole Again to win wub.gif

Be With You music.gif A very welcome boppy moment in a singles discography rather full of mid-tempos and ballads!

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 16th July 2020, 10:44 PM

I'd have liked them to do a few more singles in the vein of 'Be With You' actually, thinking about it.

Posted by: Jonjo 16th July 2020, 11:19 PM

They have some solid uptempo's that would have been nice single choices! 'Be With You' kind of fit the 'Feels So Good' album more than it did 'Ladies Night'! A fair few of their uptempo's from FSG have that same kinda vibe, but BWY feels a lot more polished and it's definitely better! But they could have had some great bangers as singles.

Love Won't Wait, Feels So Good, Softer The Touch wub.gif + So Hot from 'Feels So Good' album.
Somebody Like You > Pretty much BWY little sister <, Always Be My Baby (pretty much typical AK by numbers, but with a bit more punch), I Won't Be There wub.gif (My fave ever AK song heart.gif ), Don't You Know & Loving You from 'Ladies Night' album.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 17th July 2020, 12:38 AM

They were fairly good with a good balance of slow and uptempo songs, i enjoyed most of their covers aswell, not so much ladies night, there was a stage when they could do no wrong and were having big hit after big hit and doing the 2 big covers the tide is high and eternal flame really kept the momentum going after the career saving whole again.

Posted by: Chemistry 17th July 2020, 06:04 AM

You Are, Eternal Flame and espcially It's OK are all among my favourite AK songs. It's OK really is the ultimate spring/summer bop, isn't it? It always puts me in such a good mood.

Eternal Flame is their best cover imo. Will never grow tired of that one.

Be With You is obviously a total BOP, but I don't enjoy it as much as the other three songs. Funnily enough it was released as a stand-alone single here (just like The Last Goodbye).

Posted by: Lukuzz 17th July 2020, 07:56 AM

Tide is High top 3 hmm. Too high hope it falls out next

Posted by: ElectroBoy 17th July 2020, 08:10 AM

Hopefully... Tide out at 3

then the best 2 singles fighting it out

Posted by: Scene 17th July 2020, 08:11 AM

It's OK and Be With You are essential Atomic Kitten in my book. wub.gif They cemented the girls' second era as by far their best. It's OK gives me childhood summer nostalgia and the video reinforces that! Be With You has to be their most interesting track tbh. Unlike a lot of their back catalogue, it doesn't sound dated or "of its time".

Sorry but that top 3 is mostly AWFUL. I can abide The Last Goodbye being there because it is one of their best but beige, pedestrian 'Whole Again' and a COVER. drama.gif

Posted by: Simon. 17th July 2020, 08:18 AM

I always thought Be With You was a cover, is it not?

Posted by: vibe 17th July 2020, 02:20 PM

TYOJ is a three time cover.

It’s not Blondie

And Billie did a very similar version to the kittens.

I thought Be With You was going to come 2nd !!

Got some catching up to do, so here goes...

You Are - Dunno why they didn't just release this, it could have been another top 10 hit easy. Some nice guitars & synths over some steady beats, along with some decent warm sounds & some good vocal moments. Not one of my personal faves from them, but its a decent enough effort.

Eternal Flame - It's a cover by numbers, but it works well enough for the time anyway, along with some okay R&B nods. Doesn't beat the Bangles original in anyway, but what could?

It's OK - A slick little pop number that was a great choice to lead a new era, with the girls showing off their new mature sound with some acoustic guitar & strings which gives it that perfect mellow summery sound. A firm standout in the Kitten's discography.

Be With You - The Disco flavoured anthem that offered a nice contrast to the ballads they were releasing at the time & comes as a breath of fresh air, with this string-fused track that uses the ELO sample wonderfully. Fantastic track, my personal fave by them, which is why I gave it my 11.

3 8.52 The Tide Is High (Get the Feeling)

Thank you baby: 11 - Cameron, …ready for it
I wouldn't wanna be ya: 3 - Tawdry Hepburn

The second single from Feels So Good brought yet more success for the girls. Originally by The Paragons, The Tide Is High is best known as a Blondie song and was also covered by Billie Piper not long before. For Atomic Kitten, with added "Get the Feeling", it hit #1 for three weeks and became their second best seller.

Posted by: Jonjo 17th July 2020, 07:34 PM

I had this in CD single, and my dad picked it up as I was at school, we had 3 Discs in one cheeseblock.png So gave one to my next door neighbour and my dad's best mate. :')

A fun and an actual decent cover! I like what they did with it.

2 8.64 The Last Goodbye

Thank you baby: 11 - Nightcrawler, Jonjo, ElectroBoy, lewistgreen, kye, Simon
I wouldn't wanna be ya: 5 - Tombo

Of course the #1 is now clear, but first, let's shine some light on our #2. The Last Goodbye was picked as the third single from Feels So Good and teamed up with Be With You for a double A-side release. The track is a brilliant winter-themed ballad and peaked at #2 in the UK chart! It has the highest "low" score of 5, every other song all achieved at least one score of less than 5.

Posted by: Jonjo 17th July 2020, 07:50 PM

What a beaut! Absolutely adore this and the intro is instantly recogniseable. Their best for me, for sure! wub.gif

Pleased it got to #2, but would have preferred if it beat WA.

1 9.55 Whole Again

Thank you baby: 11 - vibe, Spiceboy, Chemistry, Feel_The_Fever, Slick, Mullo, Mack, HausofGhibli, Sarah, Jay
I wouldn't wanna be ya: 0.5 - Scene

Of course! Whole Again was a pivotal moment for Atomic Kitten. With middling singles success and underwhelming album sales, the girls persuaded their label to release Whole Again as one final chance. With a low budget video and an old photoshoot used for the single cover, Whole Again was released - and shot to #1! Even Kerry's departure from the group part-way through the campaign wasn't enough to stall it. The track's gone on to sell over 1 million copies, and has cemented itself as a girl group classic. It received ten scores of 11, as well as a further thirteen scores of 10 - incredible!

Not a surprising winner, but it's obvious as to how it won. It really was their 'Black Magic' moment in that it literally saved their career, in a HUGE way! I prefer other songs by them, so it's far from my favourite, but I don't begrudge it winning. wub.gif

Thank you for this Joseph! Was a very welcome rate and swiftly & lovingly presented! wub.gif

Whole Again is a rightful winner tbh, it still sounds beautiful today

'Whole Again' is THE Atomic Kitten single. It was so huge and remains a classic. I love it.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 17th July 2020, 08:17 PM

Can't argue with that winner, and 'The Last Goodbye' is a brilliant song.

'The Tide Is High' though, what an awful cover version that is.

How did their most nondescript, bland song win this? tearsmile.gif

Nothing below a 6 in the average scores though, when will all the AFs? cheeseblock.png

I love Whole Again so glad it won but I’m in awe at my fave coming in at #2 *.*
I’ll only ever listen to Kerry’s version of Whole Again. Jenny’s version doesn’t feel right to me as it was a rushed re-record and plonked on the album reissue (though I do prefer the American video they did)

Posted by: Chemistry 18th July 2020, 06:05 AM

Whole Again was an instant classic and is, in my opinion, one the the best pop songs of the last 20 years. It's one of those songs everyone seems to like as well, timeless masterpiece.

The Last Goodbye is a stunning, winter-y ballad. Surprised to see it land this high, although it has always been one of my favourites as well.

The Tide Is High is not one of their best for me, but still a very good song. Even though it's a cover, they really made it their own.

Posted by: Scene 18th July 2020, 06:38 AM

I have such fond memories of getting The Last Goodbye CD single for Christmas along with Christina Aguilera's Stripped and The Cheeky Girls' Cheeky Song. laugh.gif

Posted by: Nina West 18th July 2020, 02:14 PM

The Tide Is High (Get The Feeling) - A pretty decent cover that's quite faithful to Blondie's version. yet given a fresh updated beat with some good vocals. The new bridge of "Get the Feeling" was a nice added touch that rightfully gave the girls another smash hit. They were really at their peak here, shame it would be quite a slow decline after this. I remember Billie Piper's version from 2000 & was set to be a single for her, it would have been interesting to see how her version would have faired, but doubt it would have had the same success as Atomic Kitten's version, as her career was starting to cool down due to her last single 'Walk of Life' only peaking at #25. Plus she opted to quit singing & pursue an acting career.

The Last Goodbye - So glad this has done so well here, as I do feel this gets overlooked quite often, (overshadowed by its counterpart 'BWY'. They continue to show off their more mature sound with some nice affected synths, with some nice rich warm vocals, some fantastic looping acoustic guitars which gave the song a nice warm & cozy feel. The girls pulls this sound off with such ease & gave them another well earned hit.

Whole Again - A more than worthy winner & something that not only saved their career's but also changed their sound as the general public seemed to warm more towards their ballads than their previous up-tempo numbers, as this has more power & more of an edge to it, can't believe the label were gonna sit on this, an all0time iconic classic.

Posted by: Jay* 19th July 2020, 01:30 AM

I'm very glad to see that Whole Again has won! It's such a classic and truly deserved all the success it achieved. Imagine if their label had lost all faith in them after Follow Me & Right Now (the album) bombed, and dropped them without giving them a final chance? There were definitely some acts from that era who were dropped after singles/albums that performed better than those Atomic Kitten releases. AK were very lucky!

Not sure I would have predicted The Last Goodbye as the runner up, but it is a lovely song though. heart.gif

The Tide Is High (Get the Feeling) is such a feel-good bop, I'm happy to see it as high as third place. The addition of a new bridge section was a great idea too!

Thanks for hosting this Joseph wub.gif

I must be missing something with Whole Again... everyone adores it here. unsure.gif It certainly doesn't strike me as one of the best pop songs of the past 20 years. laugh.gif Maybe if I was a fan of AK prior to WA and witnessed it saving their career I may have more of an attachment to it but I wasn't and I don't. Endless list?

Eternal Flame
The Tide Is High
Ladies Night

Posted by: Scene 19th July 2020, 06:39 PM

In their defence re: "endless covers" they were one of many pop acts releasing them. Girls Aloud released one every year until 2007 (Jump, I'll Stand By You, See The Day, I Think We're Alone Now, Walk This Way) - then you had Steps (Tragedy, Better The Devil You Know, I Know Him So Well), Westlife with nearly every release being a cover (Uptown Girl, Mandy, You Raise Me Up to name a few) - there are probably quite a few examples too.

Posted by: Jonjo 19th July 2020, 09:07 PM

Releasing a cover was a quick, cheap and easy way for the label to cash in back then. I think adding rent-a-rappers/guest verses to pre-existing album tracks now is the equivalent of an act releasing a cover song back then.

But yeah... they had 3 covers throughout their chart life (4 if we have to include 'Anyone Who Had A Heart' :') lmao) it's hardly milking it.

Posted by: Slick 19th July 2020, 09:09 PM

It's easy to forget how common and acceptable it was to release covers of already-successful songs in the late 90s and early 00s. It was almost EXPECTED whereas these days it's basically taboo.

Posted by: schizo_spice 13th March 2024, 12:05 AM

I can’t remember why I gave Ladies Night an 11. I certainly wouldn’t give it that high a score now. ohmy.gif

I was re-listening to their Greatest Hits and still love so many of these songs.
