Very interested to see how Baby Storme and Yaeger end up doing here. I can see them both being pretty big regardless of the impact of being in 2 contests at once.

I only discovered He Stranger earlier this year on Now 80s Alternative, Anne was a French chanteuse on Trevor Horn’s label but despite a lot of hype she never charted sadly. The video is very mid 80s London, seedy but artistic.

Oop missed the very start of this but I'm here now!

The Annie song was definitely among the less fitting songs for the theme (although quite a few were pretty tenuous) but still was a fan of the song. And great pick from Nate, Mareux are 4 for 4 on good song contest entries x really liked the CRIMER song too.

I remember thinking the kmoe song sounded like a Seven entry so it being !!! makes sense given Seven didn't actually enter this. Quite surprised to see that one taking the early lead!

Also was fairly sure Anne Pigalle would be Rollo (actually my first thought was WoW73 but he also didn't enter)

The ZAND song was a pretty strong opener, took me a moment to get used to the CORPSE-esque vocals but the production was *.* - nice to see that near the top now (and I wouldn't say no to any of the current top 3 winning x)

Enigma popping up in a 'pop' contest was a bit odd but still a cool song as ever from them.

Well I got off to a great start starting to slip a bit now though (not helped by duplicitous Wombats snubbing me despite saying on SyncTube they found the song already and should have kept it as a potential entry themselves ), hope I can at least stay top 10 still x This was literally the first song I clicked on when searching (a wild /r/listentothis find) but I was kind of immediately bowled over by it, such a killer chorus (pun semi intended), glad it's found a few other big fans x

I opted for Baby Storme in BJSC and went for the artist I would have sent as a backup had that been taken… except she was already releasing several Halloween ready bops prior to this so I couldn’t choose bc I loved them all. Then this was released the Friday on confirmations week so I leaped at the opportunity. Hell week indeed 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫I thought the concept was pretty broad so I hope y’all enjoyed a bit of hyperpop 💜💜💜

Thank you for the points so far, I can't pretend this is the most inspired pick as it's yet another recycle and over a year old now, but it was one of many great songs from La Femme's album last year.

The top of the pack here were really good, great to see KIWI, ZAND and Desire doing so well so far.

It was close between 11th and 10th so I went with the one that fit the theme better (I see you were browsing r/listentothis at a similar time I was!)

Pff, I still think it fits the theme pretty well, read the lyrics without the music and tell me it's not super morbid xx

I think the post there was actually about a month old when I found it, I just searched for 'synthpop' as I hoped that might produce something sufficiently poppy and gloomy.

Omg Meekul is absolutely popping off with the spooky entries between this and the current BJSC I'd love to know how you came across this song, reminded me a lot of Boy Harsher, what a tune x

And oh yeah Rollo sending Depeche Mode again makes sense I guess sending Depeche Mode to song contests on here is getting a bit played out but I can't complain too much when the songs still keep being pretty great every time, I'm slowly learning their back catalogue by force x Thanks for the points in return also!

Elliot Lee a doomed artist then it would seem oops. Shame because I found it rather cute and on theme but maybe a bit childish too so perhaps why many pop people snubbed.

OMGGGGG my second win in PFSC!!! WOWWWWWWW!!!! Thank you for the huge support to my Polish dark pop entry! I was flipping through my potentials and this sounds very fitting to the theme. I kinda wanted to send this to the main contest so I'm happy it got the attention here! Thank you for 12 points from Doctor Blind, 10 points from Bre and Nate, and 8 points from Chez, Dobbo and J00p!! Thanks for all the high pointers as well

Congrats uhsting, excellent winner there and my top 3 finished as the overall top 3 (albeit in a slightly different order) I voted for the entire top 8 as well, aside from myself ofc - 6th 7th place is a good enough position to validate my rare delusion of feeling like a contender, nicely makes up enough for my complete tank in BJSC this month (part of me kind of wishes I just sent this song to BJSC instead honestly as I feel like it's strong enough for that and I don't send songs this poppy there often enough but then I'd have had to spend more time to find another song to send here when I was already quite late )

There have been quite a few times in the spinoffs / genre forum contests recently where the top end of the results has tracked very closely with my own votes, but doesn't seem to pan out when including the other 30 odd people who only enter BJSC (I guess that is also a wider field of songs tbf)

Yaeger being as 'low' as 11th is a little bit of a surprise as I still feel like that's a contender to win in BJSC, guess we'll see how that plays out soon ~

Thanks for hosting Ansel, enjoyed this theme as expected even with a good handful of people only very tenuously sticking to it.

Gosh, that's interesting that Yaeger missed the top ten - was easily my favourite in this selection but has me doubting its BJSC chances a bit, I had it down as a possible winner.

Not displeased with the result for He Stranger, it felt like it really stood out as a very old sounding song

I guess that's that. I cannot be certain I'll be back in the next PFSC. I thought this theme was super cool and I got ideas of what to enter.

I mean, I don't have to force myself to participate in a lot of contests (it can be hard to be comfortable/confident about my choices).

Congrats uhsting! Fantastic entry and I certainly can't complain at all my top 3 being in the top 5, I voted for all but two in the top 10, and they were both very close so you could certainly call that a spooktacular result x

Happy with 14th as it's a lot better than how I was doing earlier and is a bit better than how Divine Creature fared, Up with French forever x

Congratulations uhsting your entry was just outside my votes and I voted for everything from 2nd-9th, so a great set of results overall!

I found my entry a while ago and had to enter it somewhere just because of the title (another story), so a bit of shoehorning, but I didn't think it was as far off-theme as some were suggesting plus this may be me being out of touch, but I thought a "pop bop" would need to be reasonably uptempo - I had another much darker but slower song in mind for a Halloween type contest which I thought less appropriate to this particular theme, but maybe I'll save that for another time... anyhoo my record of either top 7 or missing the top 20 for song contests in 2023 continues (6 of the former, 11 of the latter), thank you to Addy for 6 points, and the other 6 voters.

I'm fine with 22nd and happy that five people voted for 'Follow Me'. I'd originally saved it for BJSC but I think this result shows it would've done poorly there. Glad I shared it here instead, I think it fit the theme well but apols if anyone disagrees.

This was the first Halloween or Halloween-adjacent contest I've taken part in, but hopefully not the last! Thanks Ansel for hosting!
