Scotland captain Richie Berrington is looking forward to a "great occasion" against defending champions England at the Men's T20 World Cup on 4 June.

Australia, Namibia and Oman are the other opponents in Group B, with all of Scotland's matches in the Caribbean as West Indies and United States co-host.

The top two from four groups progress to the Super Eight phase.

Australia wrapped up their 3 test series against Pakistan 3-0 today.

Whilst the result looks comprehensive Pakistan were very much into the 2nd and 3rd tests. Just lapses letting them down.

Also looking forward to the T20 World Cup in June.

Yorkshire batter Harry Brook is to fly home from England's tour of India for personal reasons.

Brook, 24, was expected to be in England's XI for the opening Test in Hyderabad on Thursday but has left the squad with immediate effect.

Surrey's Dan Lawrence has been named as his replacement but Brook could return later in the five-match series.

"The Brook family respectfully requests privacy during this time," the England and Wales Cricket Board said.

Due to the length of the tour, England, who are currently travelling from Abu Dhabi to Hyderabad, will leave India between the second Test (Vizag, 2-6 February) and the third (Rajkot, 15-19 February).

England captain Ben Stokes is "good to go" for the first Test against India in Hyderabad on Thursday, says coach Brendon McCullum.

Stokes, 32, had surgery on a long-standing left-knee problem in November.

He trained with the squad on their camp in Abu Dhabi last week, but did not bowl and is not expected to do so throughout the five-Test series.

"He looks like a greyhound. He's put the work in, everyone knows his work ethic is phenomenal," said McCullum.

India batter Virat Kohli has withdrawn from the first two Tests against England for personal reasons.

The 35-year-old former captain has told India skipper Rohit Sharma and the side's management that "certain personal situations demand his presence and undivided attention".

The five-Test series begins in Hyderabad on Thursday.

Kohli's withdrawal comes one day after England batter Harry Brook returned to the UK for personal reasons.

Australia opener Usman Khawaja has been cleared of delayed concussion and passed fit to play in the second Test against the West Indies in Brisbane.

Khawaja, 37, retired hurt in their 10-wicket win in the first Test after being hit on the chin by a Shamar Joseph bouncer with the scores level.

Australia in big trouble against the West Indies in the 2nd test. After West Indies made 311 they have Australia 4-24 at dinner on day 2 of the day night test.

West Indies ayes a massive boil over in the second test in Brisbane and defeat Australia by 8 runs.

Posted by: King Rollo 28th January 2024, 01:07 PM

That was a big upset and now England have done the same, beating India after being 190 runs behind on the first innings. A great score of 196 by Ollie Pope and then seven wickets for Tom Hartley. This series might be closer than I thought it was going to be.

India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and batter KL Rahul have been ruled out of the second Test against England, adding to the hosts' problems.

Jadeja suffered a hamstring injury and Rahul a quadriceps issue during England's 28-run win in the first Test.

India are already without star batter Virat Kohli, pace bowler Mohammed Shami and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant.

Sarfaraz Khan, Sourabh Kumar and Washington Sundar have been added to the squad for Friday's second Test.

Former Pakistani prime minister and cricket captain Imran Khan has been sentenced to 10 years in jail in a case in which he was charged with leaking state secrets.

England spinner Jack Leach is a significant doubt for the second Test against India because of a knee injury sustained in the first Test.

Leach hurt his left knee fielding in Hyderabad, but was still able to bowl 10 overs in the second innings as England sealed a remarkable 28-run win.

He did not bowl in training on Wednesday as England prepare for the second Test in Visakhapatnam on Friday.

Leach's absence could lead to a debut for Somerset team-mate Shoaib Bashir.

Posted by: ukchartstatsfan 1st February 2024, 03:21 PM

Off-spinner Shoaib Bashir will make his England debut in the second Test against India in Visakhapatnam.

The 20-year-old replaces the injured Jack Leach, while James Anderson comes in for Mark Wood.

England admirably clung on to India, despite Yashasvi Jaiswal making a sublime century on the opening day of the second Test in Visakhapatnam.

Opener Jaiswal batted throughout the day for his unbeaten 179, leading the home side to 336-6.

The left-hander's knock prevented India, 1-0 down after losing a thrilling first Test, from completely wasting their advantage of winning the toss and batting first on a good pitch.

Jaiswal shared in three separate partnerships in excess of 50, but his team-mates squandered starts. The six men dismissed were all out for between 14 and 34.

Yorkshire's members have approved a controversial takeover of the cash-strapped club by a consortium led by former chairman Colin Graves.

It means the 76-year-old, who was chair of Yorkshire from 2012-2015, is set to return to the role.

Graves' time at Yorkshire was part of the period for which the club was fined for failing to address the systemic use of discriminatory or racist language.

Australia top-order batter Cameron Bancroft has re-signed for Gloucestershire for the 2024 season.

The 31-year-old has scored 446 runs in 10 Tests for his country and has played in two Ashes series.

Bancroft is the top scorer in the Sheffield Shield, Australia's domestic competition, this winter with 512 runs in six matches.

He will be available to play across all formats for Gloucestershire, following previous spells in 2016 and 2017.

Posted by: ukchartstatsfan 2nd February 2024, 02:41 PM

West Indies international fast bowler Kemar Roach will return to Surrey for the first seven matches of the 2024 County Championship season.

The 35-year-old has been part of the team that has won the competition in the past two seasons, taking 25 wickets in their title defence last year.

Roach has 396 wickets from 183 matches across all formats for his country.

He will join up with his Surrey team-mates in time for their first match, against Lancashire in April.

Posted by: ukchartstatsfan 2nd February 2024, 02:45 PM

All-rounder George Balderson has signed a new contract with Lancashire to run to the end of the 2026 season.

The 23-year-old academy graduate made his debut in 2020 and has played 54 games for the county in red-ball and 50-over cricket.

Balderson scored more than 700 runs in County Championship Division One last summer, including two hundreds, and also took 23 wickets.

"As a squad we are looking to push on and win silverware now," he said.

Posted by: ukchartstatsfan 3rd February 2024, 01:31 AM

Spinner Shaoib Bashir said the two wickets he took on his England debut will be more "memorable" because of his problems getting into India.

Bashir, 20, is of Pakistani descent and had to return home from England's training camp in Abu Dhabi in order to sort a visa delay.

He missed the first Test, but claimed 2-100 as England limited India to 336-6 on the first day of the second.

England lost Ben Duckett late on day three after being set an enormous 399 to beat India in the second Test in Visakhapatnam.

Duckett made 28 in a stand of 50 with Zak Crawley before offering a bat-pad catch off Ravichandran Ashwin.

Crawley remains on 29, alongside the promoted Rehan Ahmed on nine, with England 67-1 and in need of 332 more runs for another astonishing victory.

Former England wicketkeeper Alec Stewart is to leave his role as Surrey director of cricket at the end of 2024.

The 60-year-old is in his 11th year in the role and the club have won the County Championship three times in that period, including last summer.

Stewart also won six trophies in 23 years as a Surrey player, including three Championship titles.

"Without a doubt, this has been the toughest decision of my working career," he told the club website.

"Since November 2013, I have given this job my total commitment and it has been an honour and a privilege to be a part of the greatest cricket club in the world.

The Test match in the 2025 Women's Ashes in Australia will be a day-night game at the 100,000-capacity Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The Test returns to a four-day match after it was extended to five days during the 2023 series in England.

The pink-ball game, which starts on 30 January, will also end the multi-format series for the first time since it was introduced in 2015.

Australia retained the Ashes with an 8-8 draw last year in England.

Northamptonshire have signed former Sussex and Essex all-rounder Ravi Bopara for this summer's T20 Blast.

Bopara has scored more than 9,100 runs and taken 277 wickets in 462 T20 matches all around the world.

He also made 171 appearances for England in all formats of the game between 2007 and 2015.

"I felt great in the Blast last year and my game is in a really good place at the moment," the 38-year-old told the Northants website.

England sealed a T20 series victory with a game to spare with a dominant 47-run win over New Zealand in Wellington.

England's imposing 177-3 was set up by opener Maia Bouchier's stunning 91 from only 56 balls.

In reply, spinner Charlie Dean took 4-26 as the hosts stumbled to 130-7 from their 20 overs.

The White Ferns were left to rue a sloppy fielding performance, dropping Bouchier twice and missing a stumping.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 27th March 2024, 09:11 PM

Well done to them - certainly sounds like the women were on top form!

Surrey director of cricket Alec Stewart will be irreplaceable when he leaves the club, says head coach Gareth Batty.

The ex-England captain announced last week that he will stand down after 11 years at the end of the season.

Surrey are chasing a third County Championship title in a row this season and have won the competition three times in Stewart's tenure.

Stewart scored 40,936 runs, including 67 centuries, in 951 matches for Surrey in a 22-year playing career.

Day one of Derbyshire's County Championship season opener against Gloucestershire has been abandoned without a ball being bowled because of a waterlogged outfield.

Play had been scheduled to begin at 11:00 BST but the playing surface failed an inspection called for 10:00.

Both teams are looking for a first County Championship victory since 2022 after winless campaigns last year.

England pace bowler Jofra Archer will not play Test cricket until 2025 but this summer's T20 World Cup is "absolutely" a realistic goal, says managing director Rob Key.

Archer, 29, has not played for England in any format since March 2023 because of an elbow injury.

The T20 World Cup in the West Indies and United States starts on 1 June.

Kashif Ali scored an accomplished maiden century as Worcestershire made a solid 316-7 against Warwickshire on the opening day of the County Championship season at Edgbaston.

Kashif struck 110 and Gareth Roderick added 68 as the visitors returned to Division One with a strong day's work.

New Warwickshire captain Alex Davies chose to bowl but, without Hasan Ali and the injured Liam Norwell, his bowling attack lacked penetration on a good batting pitch and Kashif took advantage in composed fashion with a richly deserved maiden ton.

Dean Elgar and Jordan Cox made eye-catching debuts for Essex but it was Elgar's fellow South African Dane Paterson who stole the show for Nottinghamshire on the opening day of the Championship season at Trent Bridge.

Opener Elgar, who retired from international cricket earlier this year, looked more than capable of filling the void left by Sir Alastair Cook, defying typical opening-day conditions with a classy 80.

He shared a 112-run third-wicket partnership with the talented former Kent batter Cox, who went on to make 84, but Paterson, who flew in only on Wednesday, powered a Nottinghamshire fightback by taking 5-49 with his wily medium pace.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 6th April 2024, 06:31 PM

Sounds like he'll be one to watch for the rest of the season then!

Glamorgan captain Sam Northeast hit the highest first-class score recorded at Lord's as he made an unbeaten 335 against Middlesex on day two of the new County Championship season.

The Englishman put on an unbeaten stand of 299 with Colin Ingram (132 not out) in Glamorgan's total of 620-3 declared.

Australia pace bowler Xavier Bartlett will join up with Kent for their first eight games of this season's T20 Blast.

Kent announced the signing of the 25-year-old at the end of February and, under the terms of his initial contract, he was set to be available for five of the opening seven County Championship matches, as well as at least the first eight fixtures of the T20 Blast.

Cricket Australia withdrew him from that planned stint after a busy winter playing in his homeland, but it has now been confirmed Bartlett will link up with Kent for the start of their T20 competition.

The Uganda Cricket Association has appointed Abhay Sharma as the new head coach of the men's national team.

The 54-year-old Indian has signed a three-year deal and will lead the Cricket Cranes at this year's T20 World Cup.

The East Africans will make their debut at the tournament, which is being held in the United States and West Indies.

"I am very grateful for this opportunity to work with a bunch of talented cricketers," he said.

"Having been in Uganda for just a couple of days, it already feels like my second home. The people here are lovely, and the setting is reminiscent of India."

Rocky Flintoff, the teenage son of former England all-rounder Andrew, has made his maiden century for Lancashire second XI.

Flintoff compiled 116 from 165 balls against Warwickshire on Tuesday in the first innings of a four-day Second XI Championship match at Edgbaston.

The 16-year-old brought up his century on day two with a late cut for a single off left-arm wrist spinner Jake Lintott.

Rohmalia bowled 3.2 overs and took a wicket with her first ball, with five of her victims dismissed without scoring.

Warwickshire have confirmed the signing of Pakistan all-rounder Aamir Jamal as an overseas player.

The 27-year-old will be available until the end of the T20 Blast group stages and could make his County Championship debut against Nottinghamshire on Friday.

Jamal joins his international team-mate Hasan Ali at Edgbaston.

He made his Test debut in December, taking 6-111 in Australia's first innings in the first Test in Perth, before scoring 82 batting at nine in the third Test in Sydney.

“He really captured the cricket world’s attention in Australia,” said Warwickshire performance director Gavin Larsen.

Counties have been given until 10 May to indicate if they accept a proposal from the England and Wales Cricket Board for the sale of teams in The Hundred.

As reported by the Telegraph, external, the ECB will sell a 49% stake in each of the eight teams and distribute the revenue to the domestic game.

That figure is up from a previously discussed 30%.

The remaining 51% will be given to the eight hosts of The Hundred teams, who will then have the option to sell some, all, or keep it.

The ECB will retain ownership of the competition itself, which began in 2021.

This month chief executive Richard Gould said the ECB was “starting to pursue” private investment in Hundred teams.

England all-rounder Will Jacks smashed an unbeaten century off just 41 balls to help Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Gujarat Titans by nine wickets in the Indian Premier League.

Chasing 201 for victory, Jacks bludgeoned 10 sixes and five fours to help RCB reach their total with four overs to spare.

Jacks hammered 28 runs off one Rashid Khan over, including four sixes, and shared an unbeaten 166-run stand with Virat Kohli.

Kohli finished on 70 not out from 44 deliveries in RCB's 206-1.

Gujarat Titans had earlier posted 200-3 from their 20 overs, with Sai Sudharsan top-scoring with 84.

I have been enjoying the IPL, fantastic.

Some (not all) World Cup squads have been announced. I am surprised that Jofra Archer is included, I think he is too much of a risk given how prone he is to injury.

Steve Smith has been omitted from Australia and surprisingly no Jake Fraser McGurk. I have watched the latter in the last two editions of the BBL and this year's IPL and feel that Australia may be missing a trick here.

Gloucestershire registered the highest score in their 154-year first-class history before making substantial inroads into the Leicestershire reply on the second day of the County Championship Division Two match at Leicester.

Captain Graeme Van Buuren hit a century at better than a run a ball, becoming the third batsman in his team to reach three figures after Cameron Bancroft and Ben Charlesworth had reached the landmark on day one, before declaring on 706-6 at tea.

It was the first time Gloucestershire had passed 700, surpassing the 695-9 made against Middlesex in 2004, and the fifth highest first-class score made against Leicestershire.

England Men's World Cup preparations have been hindered by the weather. Two washouts out of three already.

England Women seem to be gearing up for their World Cup with a 3-0 series win in the T20s.

Currently 1-0 up in the ODI series with the second game a washout. Pakistan are needing World Cup points to qualify automatically for the ODI World Cup next year.

Sophia Dunkley has been recalled to England's one-day international squad for the upcoming series against New Zealand.

Top-order batter Dunkley, 25, was left out of both white-ball squads for the series against Pakistan last month after a lean run of form.

But she has since excelled in domestic cricket, leading the run-scoring charts in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for South East Stars.

The right-hander has 293 runs in five innings, averaging 97.66 with the Stars third in the table.

The three-match ODI series against the White Ferns starts in Durham on 26 June and is followed by five T20s.
