The 2017/18 season of the Sky Bet Championship will begin on Saturday 5th August.
• Replacing the three promoted and relegated teams from last season are Hull City, Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Sheffield United, Bolton Wanderers and Millwall
• Pre-season managerial changes have already occurred at Norwich City, Middlesbrough, Hull Ciy and Wolves, Sunderland, Leeds United are without a manager.
Any early predictions?
Fixtures will be released next Wednesday.
Can't see any of the relegated teams coming straight back up. The only one I think that may be quite well is Boro.
I think Sheffield Wednesday and Fulham will be there or thereabouts.
I will be very surprised if Reading don't get promoted this time. I think Hull could potentially come straight back to the Premier League if they build their squad up and if they stick with one manager throughout the season.
It would be nice to see us not struggle in the Championship for a change but I can't see anything changing in all honesty...
After 10 years I'm back in this topic. Did we have this topic 10 years ago? I don't know.
Was it a Saturday football thread by the way looking through previous topics?
Leeds United look set to appoint Thomas Christansen as their new manager.
Would love Wednesday to finally do it. I agree that Middlesbrough will be the strongest of the relegated trio - Monk looks like an solid appointment and their squad is decent. Slutsky at Hull is an odd one.
It would be great yes if Sheffield Wednesday could finally make it to the Premier League next season.
Looking forward to a Steel city derby this coming season. It has been a while...
McInnes turning down the Sunderland job
Who would you get as Sunderland manager then?

This appears to be the most recent update on Sunderland's ownership situation according to the BBC.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40358358
Hopefully this club gets the stability it needs, uncertainty over the future does not help the cause.
Norwich started their preparations for this campaign early, so hopefully they have the pre-season to settle the squad and the manager.
Sunderland are in a proper mess, no manager with pre-season weeks away. Feel sorry for their fans.
I expect Sunderland will have a Villa last season like season. Very wobbly to begin with but then more solid second half to set themselves up better for the season after.
Reading & Fulham the faves for me.

The football season kicks-off tonight with Nottingham Forest v Millwall and Sunderland v Derby County.
A good quality stream of the Sunderland v Derby game for anyone who doesn't have Sky Sports:

Some changes to Sunderland - didn't even realise McGeady had signed! He had a good thing going at Preston!
Birmingham to go up this season please.
I reockon Birmingham will go down if they get rid of Redknapp. I reckon he will walk or get the push within the next few weeks.
So far Leeds top of the pile following last night's win over Birmingham City.
Some start for Christiansen - maybe a Cypriot champion will become a Championship winner at the end of this year!
Birmingham have parted company with Harry Redknapp.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41296238
Hoping for another Leeds win tomorrow. Unbelievable start but we looked warn out last weekend away at Millwall, albeit a slight return to form with our B Team beating Burnley at their place midweek. You'll never guess where my allegiance lies...
Interesting to see the start Sheffield Utd have made also, the Sheffield derbys are shaping up nicely.
Out of the teams Leeds have played so far, I'd say Birmingham looked the most solid. They'll get a few wins under their belt over the coming weeks and move up the table, I reckon.
Hang on we're top of the table? Well that's a turn up for the books!
Birmingham City have appointed Steve Cotterill as their new manger.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41441179
Sunderland have sacked Simon Grayson, no surprises there.
Could Bristol City actually be promoted this season?!
Personally I think it'd be fantastic to see all the big clubs and teams given a warm Bristolian welcome.
Would be nice, best chance since the current managers father was in charge 10 years ago!
Sunderland have appointed Chris Coleman as their new manager. Quite shocked to be honest.
Hull City have appointed Nigel Adkins as their new head coach.
Lee Tomlin is a f***ing c**t
Middlesbrough have parted company with their manager, Garry Monk
Shocking1 they beat Sheff Wed today too didn't they?
Sheffield Wednesday part company with Carvalhal.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42472402
Surprised at the Monk situation as well.
Not surprised at Carvahal gone he has done wonders for them in the past 3/4 seasons but seems to have stagnated this year, wouldn't be surprised if they fell down the table further now he's gone tho to where they were before!
Sheffield Wednesday have appointed Jos Luhukay as their new manager.
Nottingham Forest have named former Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka as their new manager.
I think Derby can feel annoyed about being denied a late penalty in their goalless draw against Bristol City. It stops their winning streak.
Rare defeat for Wolves today and at Molineux no less. Forest beating them 2-0.
Villa going along nicely. Up to 3rd now (before Cardiff play) and just 3 points behind Derby.
Leeds v Millwall was a ding-dong encounter. Home side were 2-0 down and then reduced to 10-men but came back to lead 3-2. Then threw it away in the final few minutes with Millwall scoring twice to win it 4-3.
What have they done with the new Leeds crest???
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42803838
It'll be quite difficult to stop Wolves with now 11 points clear at the top of the Championship. Would be good to see them back in the Premier League.
Leeds have sacked Thomas Christensen as their head coach
It's quite hard to believe that it's been 6 years since Wolves were last in the Premier League. They will be quite interesting to watch on Match Of The Day next season!
Paul Heckingbottom is set to be appointed as the new Leeds manager, three days after signing a new contract with Barnsley.
Yeah Leeds went downhill very quickly this season It is quite funny how outraged some people were by how badly we were performing.
(although trying to turn our logo into something that resembles Gaviscon hardly helps )
Bristol City f***ed it up again!
Simply not good enough.
They falling at the wrong time!!
Our next two games are against Fulham and Cardiff. I don't see us getting anything from those games so we'll probably be out of the play-offs next week.
Sheffield United v Burton Albion match postponed due to snow.
Managing to catch a bit of Leeds v Middlesbrough now. Feels really weird to see Jonny Howson playing for Middlesbrough after growing up seeing him as Leeds born and bred (he actually went to my primary school )
We’re on at least Middlesbrough v Leeds goes ahead tonight despite the snow.
So who does everyone think will claim the second automatic promotion spot?
Steve Cotterill sacked and Garry Monk in as new Birmingham manager.
Fulham really are impressing at the moment, I fear they may be too far behind Cardiff now!
Hopefully the second promotion spot will all come down to the final day.
Wolves have restored their six-point lead following that win over Leeds tonight.
And then it was reduced on three points following a 4-1 defeat to Aston Villa at the weekend.
The EFL are to look into the postponement of Derby County's Championship match against Cardiff City on Sunday.
Reading have sacked Jaap Stam
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42503110
Reading have appointed Paul Clement as manager on a three-year contract.
Looking likely Chris Coleman made a huge mistake by leaving Wales to join Sunderland! I really thought Sunderland would have managed to remain in the Championship this season and was able to build on their team by next season.
Mick McCarthy will leave Ipswich Town when his contract expires at the end of the season, he had been there since 2012.
Yeh Warnock usually fails in the premier league but fair play for putting Cardiff in an unlikely position with 6 weeks to go!
Derby's traditional end-of-season meltdown is well underway with this evening's 4-1 defeat at home to Sunderland.
2014-15 – 1st at the end of February, 8th at the end of May
2015-16 – 2nd at the end of February, 5th at the end of May
2016-17 – 6th at the end of January, 9th at the end of May
2017-18 – 2nd at the end of January...
Surely it can't happen again to Derby County.
I think only a huge case of nerves in the final games will prevent it being Wolves and Cardiff as the top two, now.
Wolves just need 3 wins from their last 7 to confirm promotion.
Vital win for Birmingham City as they move out of the relegation zone with a win against Ipswich.
Killer blow for Burton there with Boro getting a 90th min equaliser - now more than a win off Birmingham!
Looking more likely that Burton will be going down to League One.
Probably be inevitable that Wolves & Cardiff will get promoted barring a massive drop in form.
Crazy end to the Wolves Cardiff game this evening!
Unbelievable, two missed penalties from Cardiff in stoppage time as Wolves now go nine points clear at the top.
I'm certainly looking forward to seeing how well Wolves do in the Premier League, let's hope they don't get instantly relegated at least.
Can't see it, they're better than a lot in there this year.
Best part was Warnock slabbering to the Wolves manager and he wouldn't apologise during the interview 15
Mins after the whistle - stubborn aul bast*rd haha!
Goal of the day by Norwichs Josh Murphy!!
We were 20 points clear of Millwall on Boxing Day!
http://www.otib.co.uk/index.php?/topic/194123-the-four-phases-of-johnson/
Shocking stats!
They are along with Fulham!
Fulham won again . What a good (loan ) signing Mitrovic has proved to be for them 9 goals in his last 9 games.
That's Burton more or less down now, just can't defend!!
Fulham into second as well after the won 1-0 and Cardiff got beat by the same scoreline. Millwall into the top 6 as well.
Only 2pts now for Wolves to get into the Premier League.
Wolves to be promoted on Sunday against local rivals Birmingham?
Terrific goal from Ruben Neves there.
Lee Johnson is f***ing useless - no away wins since December!
And back to the Premier League go Wolves as Fulham drew to a last-minute goal against Brentford.
Well done to Wolves, some goal by Neves during the week there btw.
Sunderland relegated. 6 points from safety with 6 to play for but because Burton have to play Bolton still they cannot escape the drop zone now.
Bristol City 5-5 Hull
It was the first time in over 6 years that 10 goals have been scored in a Championship game, since Nottingham Forest's 7-3 win at Leeds in March 2012
Come back from 4-2 down to lead 5-4 with 3 minutes left and we still can't win!
So are Burton relegated then??
Cardiff beat Hull 2-0 to go back up in to 2nd spot.
Final game they are at home to Reading. Fulham away to Birmingham.
At the bottom Burton beat Bolton 2-0.
Barnsley won, Reading lost. So 5 teams still in relegation trouble going in to the final games.
19) Reading P45 GD -22 PTS 43
20) Birmingham P45 GD -32 PTS 43
21) Barnsley P45 GD -21 PTS 41
22) Burton P45 GD -42 PTS 41
23) Bolton P45 GD -36 PTS 40
24) Sunderland P45 GD-31 PTS 34
Last games: Cardiff v Reading; Birmingham v Fulham; Bolton v Forest; Derby v Barnsley; Preston v Burton.
Come on Burton!!
Chris Coleman has left Sunderland.
Bolton are slipping away here.
Bolton Wanderers now looked doomed as they need to win but trail 2-1 against Nottingham Forest. Barnsley can be saved by a Preston NE goal against Burton Albion but the Lilywhites have ten men.
Scenes at Bolton!!!! 2 late goals to potentially keep them in the championship!
A impromptu pitch invasion with Cardiff and a flare on the pitch.
Full time at Bolton. Bolton stay with Barnsley and Burton go down.
Cardiff have been promoted to the Premier League. Madness on the final day of the Championship.
For the play-offs semi-finals it will be:
Derby County v Fulham
Middlesbrough v Aston Villa
I would say Fulham are the favourites to go up.
Well so far advantage Derby as they beat Fulham by a goal to nil. Fulham just couldn't convert chances from the possession they had.
Fulham, Boro or Villa will be in the Premier League, another season in the Championship for Derby.
Fulham vs Aston Villa in the playoff final!
Hoping that it will be Fulham who win the play off final. Although I reckon it will be a close game.
Yeh like Fulham style and players too!
That's it. 1-0 Fulham and they're back in the Premier League! Hoping that Sessegnon will stay next season.
I'm just glad that Villa stay in the Championship another season.
Terry has left Villa, well that was a complete & utter waste of time.
Well I don't see why it had to be an all or nothing attempt, I thought the reason he dropped down to the championship was so he couldn't play against Chelsea? Surely had they got promoted he should have left not the other way round
Elsewhere Lampard named Derby manager - all the noughties "golden generation" are at it now then.
