BuzzJack Music Forum _ Sports and Fitness _ Championship 2017/18 Season

Posted by: Mack 13th June 2017, 12:19 PM

The 2017/18 season of the Sky Bet Championship will begin on Saturday 5th August.

• Replacing the three promoted and relegated teams from last season are Hull City, Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Sheffield United, Bolton Wanderers and Millwall
• Pre-season managerial changes have already occurred at Norwich City, Middlesbrough, Hull Ciy and Wolves, Sunderland, Leeds United are without a manager.

Any early predictions?

Fixtures will be released next Wednesday.

Posted by: Rooney 13th June 2017, 02:54 PM

Can't see any of the relegated teams coming straight back up. The only one I think that may be quite well is Boro.

I think Sheffield Wednesday and Fulham will be there or thereabouts.

Posted by: Houdini 13th June 2017, 02:59 PM

I will be very surprised if Reading don't get promoted this time. I think Hull could potentially come straight back to the Premier League if they build their squad up and if they stick with one manager throughout the season.

Posted by: OutstandingMixer 13th June 2017, 09:18 PM

It would be nice to see us not struggle in the Championship for a change but I can't see anything changing in all honesty... sleep.gif

After 10 years I'm back in this topic. Did we have this topic 10 years ago? I don't know.

Posted by: Mack 14th June 2017, 11:06 AM

Was it a Saturday football thread by the way looking through previous topics?

Posted by: Mack 15th June 2017, 11:58 AM

Leeds United look set to appoint Thomas Christansen as their new manager.

Posted by: Soy Adrián 15th June 2017, 02:46 PM

Would love Wednesday to finally do it. I agree that Middlesbrough will be the strongest of the relegated trio - Monk looks like an solid appointment and their squad is decent. Slutsky at Hull is an odd one.

Posted by: Mack 15th June 2017, 07:25 PM

It would be great yes if Sheffield Wednesday could finally make it to the Premier League next season.

Posted by: Flatcap 15th June 2017, 08:49 PM

Looking forward to a Steel city derby this coming season. It has been a while...

This appears to be the most recent update on Sunderland's ownership situation according to the BBC.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40358358

Hopefully this club gets the stability it needs, uncertainty over the future does not help the cause.

Norwich started their preparations for this campaign early, so hopefully they have the pre-season to settle the squad and the manager.

Posted by: Rooney 26th June 2017, 08:55 AM

Sunderland are in a proper mess, no manager with pre-season weeks away. Feel sorry for their fans.

Posted by: Dobbo 1st July 2017, 03:53 PM

I expect Sunderland will have a Villa last season like season. Very wobbly to begin with but then more solid second half to set themselves up better for the season after.

Reading & Fulham the faves for me.

Some changes to Sunderland - didn't even realise McGeady had signed! He had a good thing going at Preston!

Birmingham to go up this season please.

Posted by: Fogarty 4th September 2017, 03:31 PM

I reockon Birmingham will go down if they get rid of Redknapp. I reckon he will walk or get the push within the next few weeks.

Posted by: Mack. 13th September 2017, 07:45 AM

So far Leeds top of the pile following last night's win over Birmingham City.

Posted by: Steve201 13th September 2017, 10:45 PM

Some start for Christiansen - maybe a Cypriot champion will become a Championship winner at the end of this year!

Birmingham have parted company with Harry Redknapp.

As expected I'm not surprised to hear that he has gone. Birmingham look very messed up already. Quite a sad way it would be to end his career, Harry.

Hoping for another Leeds win tomorrow. Unbelievable start but we looked warn out last weekend away at Millwall, albeit a slight return to form with our B Team beating Burnley at their place midweek. You'll never guess where my allegiance lies...

Interesting to see the start Sheffield Utd have made also, the Sheffield derbys are shaping up nicely.

Out of the teams Leeds have played so far, I'd say Birmingham looked the most solid. They'll get a few wins under their belt over the coming weeks and move up the table, I reckon.

Welcome to the Sports forum, Jarevn.

Personally I think it'd be fantastic to see all the big clubs and teams given a warm Bristolian welcome. laugh.gif

Would be nice, best chance since the current managers father was in charge 10 years ago!

Sunderland have appointed Chris Coleman as their new manager. Quite shocked to be honest.

Sheffield Wednesday part company with Carvalhal.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42472402

Surprised at the Monk situation as well.

Posted by: ChristmasEve201 27th December 2017, 07:49 AM

Not surprised at Carvahal gone he has done wonders for them in the past 3/4 seasons but seems to have stagnated this year, wouldn't be surprised if they fell down the table further now he's gone tho to where they were before!

Posted by: MvG501 6th January 2018, 08:46 AM

Sheffield Wednesday have appointed Jos Luhukay as their new manager.

Posted by: MvG501 8th January 2018, 10:59 PM

Nottingham Forest have named former Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka as their new manager.

Posted by: MvG501 19th January 2018, 11:23 PM

I think Derby can feel annoyed about being denied a late penalty in their goalless draw against Bristol City. It stops their winning streak.

Posted by: MvG501 20th January 2018, 11:30 PM

Rare defeat for Wolves today and at Molineux no less. Forest beating them 2-0.

Villa going along nicely. Up to 3rd now (before Cardiff play) and just 3 points behind Derby.

Leeds v Millwall was a ding-dong encounter. Home side were 2-0 down and then reduced to 10-men but came back to lead 3-2. Then threw it away in the final few minutes with Millwall scoring twice to win it 4-3.

Leeds have sacked Thomas Christensen as their head coach

Posted by: Evil Houdini 5th February 2018, 01:43 AM

It's quite hard to believe that it's been 6 years since Wolves were last in the Premier League. They will be quite interesting to watch on Match Of The Day next season!

Very difficult to call for me. Aston Villa, Cardiff, Fulham, Derby. A team can go on a winning streak.

Fulham really are impressing at the moment, I fear they may be too far behind Cardiff now!

Posted by: Mack. 31st March 2018, 12:10 AM

I think only a huge case of nerves in the final games will prevent it being Wolves and Cardiff as the top two, now.
Wolves just need 3 wins from their last 7 to confirm promotion.

Posted by: Mack. 31st March 2018, 11:42 PM

Vital win for Birmingham City as they move out of the relegation zone with a win against Ipswich.

Final game they are at home to Reading. Fulham away to Birmingham.

At the bottom Burton beat Bolton 2-0.
Barnsley won, Reading lost. So 5 teams still in relegation trouble going in to the final games.

19) Reading P45 GD -22 PTS 43
20) Birmingham P45 GD -32 PTS 43
21) Barnsley P45 GD -21 PTS 41
22) Burton P45 GD -42 PTS 41
23) Bolton P45 GD -36 PTS 40
24) Sunderland P45 GD-31 PTS 34

Last games: Cardiff v Reading; Birmingham v Fulham; Bolton v Forest; Derby v Barnsley; Preston v Burton.

Cardiff have been promoted to the Premier League. Madness on the final day of the Championship.

Posted by: Mack. 7th May 2018, 10:40 AM

For the play-offs semi-finals it will be:

Derby County v Fulham
Middlesbrough v Aston Villa

I would say Fulham are the favourites to go up.

Posted by: Mack. 11th May 2018, 10:28 PM

Well so far advantage Derby as they beat Fulham by a goal to nil. Fulham just couldn't convert chances from the possession they had.

Posted by: Mack. 15th May 2018, 01:55 PM

Fulham, Boro or Villa will be in the Premier League, another season in the Championship for Derby.

Posted by: Steve201 16th May 2018, 11:21 PM

Fulham vs Aston Villa in the playoff final!

Posted by: Mack. 17th May 2018, 10:12 AM
