[
Well that puts to bed the rumours that Toney wasn't picked for the World Cup squad because of the gambling story.
Some interesting draws there! Looking at Group I, I'm noticing there'll at be at least one team qualifying that didn't qualify last time.

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford, Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount and Newcastle keeper Nick Pope have withdrawn from the England squad for next week's Euro 2024 qualifiers.
Rashford picked up a knock during his side's FA Cup quarter-final win against Fulham on Sunday.
Pope, who has 10 caps, suffered an injury in Newcastle's 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest on Friday.
Mount is also recovering from an injury and will stay with Chelsea.
Tottenham's Fraser Forster, 35, has been called up to replace Pope but no other replacements are planned by manager Gareth Southgate.
England team to face Italy:
ITALY XI: Donnarumma; Di Lorenzo, Acerbi, Toloi, Spinazzola; Barella, Jorginho, Verratti; Berardi, Retegui, Pellegrini
I'll stick it on but I expect a poor game between Italy and England.
One butchered national anthem. She'll have nightmares recalling that, poor woman.
Good start from England - we've looked dangerous and have managed to score as well
England are playing well, they are looking like they might add a second goal.
Shaky first 5 mins but since then played well looked dangerous and could be more than 1 up but stop playing around at the back.
Declan Rice booked for England.
Harry Kane has become England's all-time goalscorer.
Well done Harry Kane but how did Grealish miss an open goal just before half-time? That would have put the game to bed.
Kyle Walker booked for England.
Harry Maguire booked for England.
Jorginho booked for Italy.
Now it's England turn to be overwhelmed. Constant Italian pressure.
Foden on for Grealish.
Luke Shaw booked for England.
You silly boy Shaw gets sent off after 54 seconds after his yellow.
Trippier on for Foden.
Acarbi booked for Italy.
England have won at Italy for the first time since 1961.
They were hanging on a bit at the end but that was a good win.
England have broken their Channel 4 duck at the seventh attempt.
That's a really good win, but there's got to be either a severere tactical or mentality problem. I get 2-0 is a dangerous scoreline, but to revert to playing so badly in the second half vs the first half proposal, it does reek a lot of protecting what you have rather than delivering the killer blow. Often happens with England. A different night and we draw that game, when Italy should have been buried in the first half.

Portugal 4-0 Lichtenstein
Slovakia 0-0 Luxembourg
I can't tell if the 0-0 scoreline tells a story of Slovakia's continued freefall at the international level or Luxembourg's version of a golden age the past few years with consistent decent results against countries you'd expect they'd have no business being in the game with.
Also, brutal result for Iceland as the continue to head back towards being minnows again.
This Italy team is terrible though and on another day they get a draw out of that when it should have been game over at HT.

Impressive wins for Czech Republic and Belgium. I think a lot of people thought that Belgium would begin to struggle now but it was great win away at Sweden.
Netherlands had quite a few big stars missing yesterday. I think they will still be fine when they get everyone back.

Kazakhstan with a great comeback from 2 down v Denmark .
Now 3-2 ahead!!
And Kazakhstan held on for a shock win.
England XI: Pickford, Walker, Stones, Maguire, Chilwell, Henderson, Rice, Bellingham, Saka, Maddison, Kane.
Subs: Ramsdale, Forster, Trippier, Guéhi, Dier, Grealish, Phillips, Gallagher, Toney.
Ukraine XI: Trubin, Matviienko, Stepanenko, Svatok, Karavaev, Mykolenko, Zinchenko, Sudakov, Malinovskyi, Mudryk, Yaremchuk.
Subs: Lunin, 23 Shevchenko, Sobol, Sarapii, Sydorchuk, Konoplianka, Dovbyk, Miroshnichenko, Buyalskiy, Tsygankov, Bondarenko, Pikhalonok.
Mudryk blocking his own player's shot.
The best thing he's done for an English side since moving to Chelsea.
Two crosses into the box, which Kane has attacked with his right instead of his left. Offside this time, but would have benefitted from the other.
And Mr Harry Kane increases his record to 55 international goals for England, 1-0 to England.
Oh what quality from Saka, great goal, 2-0 to England.
Three minutes of added time in this first half for England and Ukraine.
It's all gone a bit flat in this second half.
Malinovskyi booked for Ukraine.
Every time the commentator says Matvienko I think he says Matt Bianco.
Brentford's Ivan Toney making his international debut on for Harry Kane.
Ukraine have nice ideas but there’s too much difference to them and England, every England player is happy on the ball because they have an edge in overall quality.
Double substitution for England as Jack Grealish : on for James Madison.
Conor Gallagher on for Jude Bellingham.

Ronaldo scored another brace last night in his 197th cap for Portugal!
Surprised he didn’t retire!
He wants another shot at a tournament clearly. Now they've binned off what's his face after their spat last year and got people-pleaser Roberto Martinez in charge he's back to being first name on the team sheet.

I watched the Ireland game. They were pretty unlucky. They limited France to next to nothing with Pavard's wonderstrike being one of their only shots and forced Maignan into a couple of decent saves at the end.

With Spain not playing any qualifiers in June due to the Nations League, it’s already very likely that Scotland will remain in the qualifying spots until at least the halfway stage
I cant at Rodri and his hypocritical crying. Boy as if the top 3 in the world championship for fake complainers aren’t the Spanish, Portuguese and Brazilian national teams every damn year
Still in shock Scotland beat Spain tho. We don’t need to qualify for the Euros now, we already peaked
Quite the table having Scotland ahead of Spain, even at this early stage! Will be interesting to see if they keep it up.

Manchester City's Treble winners are available for England's Euro 2024 qualifier against Malta, says Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate.
Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, Kyle Walker, John Stones and Kalvin Phillips joined the squad on Tuesday after City won the Champions League final on Saturday.
Southgate said all five are fit to play in Friday's game but he is "yet to decide if that's a good decision".
Malta (3-5-2) Bonello; Apap, S Borg (capt), Attard; Mbong, Guillaumier, Teuma, Kristensen, Z Muscat; Nwoko, Jones.
Subs: M Grech, Debono, Camenzuli, K Shaw, J Grech, Satariano, Corbalan, N Muscat, Degabriele, Yankam, Dimech, J Borg.
England (4-3-3) Pickford; Trippier, Guéhi, Maguire, L Shaw; Alexander-Arnold, Rice, Henderson; Saka, Kane (capt), Maddison.
Subs: Ramsdale, Johnstone, Walker, Stones, Mings, Phillips, Gallagher, Foden, Eze, Wilson, Grealish, Rashford.
A own goal from Malta's Apap to open the scoring for England, 1-0.
Does Maddison count as a Championship player? If so, he's the first outfield championship player to play for England since Zaha in 2012.
A second international goal for Alexander-Arnold to make it 2-0 to England.
96 seconds between the second and third goal as Kane scores from the penalty to make it 3-0 to England.
Phil Foden on for Saka.
So we're 3-0 up at half time and yet Southgate has decided this is somehow *not* the time to give Eze, Wilson, Mings etc meaningful game time.
Mings on for Shaw
Rashford on for Kane
Wilson on for Henderson
A triple change for England.
Another penalty for England for a Malta handball and the penalty is converted by Callum Wilson, 4-0 England.
That's 3 out of 3 for England then - can't really complain about that!

Bad night for Wales and the two Irelands. Cruel for Northern Ireland that their last minute equaliser was ruled out by VAR.
Wow! Way to go Tartan Army!
It was a shocking performance from Scotland and with 2 minutes of madness they’ve ended up winning the game!

Oh wow I never realised he made another almost identical howler to the Ronaldinho one at the World Cup only a few months later.
Was gonna say I vaguely remember watching that game, was that Seaman’s last game for England?
I’m going to the game tonight. Hoping for it to be a little more comfortable than those last results make it look like.
England (4-3-3) Pickford; Walker, Stones, Maguire, Shaw; Alexander-Arnold, Rice, Henderson; Saka, Kane, Rashford

0 goals so far across all 9 matches.

Declan Rice booked for England.
Feels like a pretty flawless first half. Some lovely play, 3-0 to England.
Awesome goal from Saka', 4-0 to England.
Holy smokes, Saka' scores his first England hat-trick and it is 5-0 to England.
Kalvin Phillips scores his first goal since August 2021 anywhere, his first England goal, 6-0 to England.
Penalty to England which is converted by Harry Kane, 7-0 to England.
Kalvin Phillips booked for England.

Northern Ireland LOL
Was lovely to see!
That’s three wins in a row for Kazakhstan though!
Kazakhstan sure are cooking right now.
Scotland is on fire.
Not a bad team Kazakhstan, I remember when slapped Scotland 3-0 a few years back.
First time Scotland has ever won 4 qualifiers in a row. Ever.
Can’t wait for us to somehow still not qualify

Luxembourg joining Kazakhstan and Armenia in the eye-opening results category this round of qualifiers. Luxembourg has had the knack for this the past few years too, certainly have moved well above all the other classic European 'minnows' recently. Where they used to be the same category as San Marino, Andorra, Liechtenstein, Malta, and the Faroe Islands, they are no longer that. I'd argue they've surpassed Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Cyprus, and Belarus are now considered that 'almost in contention for playoffs' caetgory with the likes of Iceland, Montenegro, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Armenia, Bosnia, Slovenia, etc.

Remarkably all of the teams that would be due to have a Play-Off place in Path 3 are still already in automatic qualifying positions (Georgia, Greece, Turkey, Kazakhstan) while none of the Path 1 teams are (Spain, Croatia, Italy, Netherlands)
Lol I was trying to find Germany in your tables for a good few minutes there before I remembered who the hosts were!
This woould be a very competitive Path 3:
Path 3:
Luxembourg

I'd be rooting for anything but Bulgaria to get some new blood in the tournament, especially Luxembourg.

A letdown by Kazakhstan. We needed that home W.
Hungary giving me life though. They continue to show those Nation League results were no fluke. Maybe their best squad since the 1950s right now.

We’re officially halfway through qualifying and what a difference one match day can make. We went none of 4 teams from the Nations League finals being in qualifying positions and all 4 Path C Nations League winners being in the qualifying spots to only one Finalist missing and 1 Path C qualifying.
On Tuesday, Scotland can become the fist team to qualify without even playing a qualifier on the day. A draw between Norway and Georgia would book Scotland’s spot in Germany.

Poland losing to Albania the biggest shock lastnyt!
Unrelated to Euros qualifying but you ever seen a manager's stock drop quite as quickly as Flick? From treble-winning messiah to the first ever coach to be sacked by Die Mannschaft all within 3 years is some impressive going!
Bundesliga is full of it, they just don’t play for Bayern so the DFB doesn’t see it
Biggest issue I have with the DFB is how narrow their focus is, and how dependent they are on Bayern and Dortmund providing their squad
Absolutely insane, like sign of the apocalypse levels of insanity, that the first national qualifying quite possibly could be f***ing Scotland

Poland has been a bit shit for a hot minute now, but still Albania getting a 2-0 home result is as good as their 1-1 away to Czech Republic. Nice to see them lead the group. Poland currently in 4th place.
For today's matches, Austria and Ukraine has a chance to get away results and really put non-playoff qualification as a question mark for Sweden and Italy.

Scotland didn’t quite confirm qualification but quite a few teams are getting close now. If there’s a winner between Belgium and Austria in matchday 7, they will book their place.
I’m sorry for any fans of Gibraltar, Cyprus, Latvia, San Marino and Lichtenstein as they are all now the first nations to officially be unable to qualify for Euro 2024.
Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka has been ruled out of England's games against Australia and Italy because of injury.
Saka missed his side's 1-0 Premier League win over champions Manchester City on Sunday with a hamstring injury.
The FA confirmed he has withdrawn after being assessed by England's medical team and would not be replaced in the squad, which now has 25 players.
England face Australia on 13 October, before taking on Italy in a European Championship qualifier four days later.
"No, he will not make it," said Gunners boss Arteta after Sunday's game. "He has not trained for a single session."

I have Albanian natives here at my office in USA who are pumping their fists over this run and with good reason. That's why I've always been partial to them. With just a home match vs. Faroe Islands and a road trip to Moldova on the docket, it would take something unfortunate to not see Albania through and as group winners to boot.

What an amazing day in qualifying. The Switzerland game was insane and Moldova haunting Poland again!
Congrats to Scotland, Spain and Turkey who all qualified today.
Stock up during the qualifying (compared to how they looked going in):
Scotland
Turkey
Albania
Austria
Hungary (though you could argue they're only justifying their Nations League performance)
Slovenia
Luxembourg (except when they're playing Portugal)
Stock down during the qualifying (compared to what they were heading in):
Norway
Netherlands
Ireland (I'm not sure anyone thought they'd qualify, but they've been even more dreadful than anyone expected)
Poland
Sweden
Bulgaria (they've been down in recent years, but not to this extent)
Northern Ireland (see Ireland)
I will do a FIFA World Rankings comparison from pre-qualifying to after the November matches.

Poor campaign for Sweden although must be one of Kazakhstans best performances on 15 pts!

UEFA have announced that the Belgium - Sweden game that was called off at half-time midweek will not be replayed and the half-time score of 1-1 will now be considered the final score. I've updated the tables above to reflect this.
So Sweden are out unfortunately. Really sad that their qualification campaign had to end in that way.

* = has potential to have major impact to the group standings
Euro qualifiers are back tonight with the re-arranged match between Kosovo & Israel.
Kosovo 1-0 Israel
A great result for Romania & Switzerland as it gives them one foot in the Euros before they meet in the final game of the group. A huge dent to Israel’s chances of qualifying, although they are guaranteed a play-off spot if they miss out on automatic qualification and Kosovo’s small chance remains alive.
Israel host Switzerland (in Hungary) on Wednesday in their final re-arranged catch-up game before Matchday 9 officially starts in this grip on Saturday.
I project the final standings in that group to be:
Switzerland 20
Romania 18
Israel 16
Kosovo 13
It would have been this if Israel had gotten 3 points in Kosovo:
Switzerland 20
Israel 19
Romania 18
Kosovo 13
But this is projecting 2 points from the two homes games with Romania/Switzerland and those could very well be 0, especially since they won't actually be at home. They could also win one (more likely vs. Romania) and get 3 points out of those two, then Romania will have to win vs. Switzerland where I'm projecting a draw right now.
Israel 1-1 Switzerland
After the final re-arranged game, Group I now looks like this after Matchday 8
1. Switzerland 8/10 (+12) 16
2. Romania 8/10 (+9) 16
3. Israel 8/10 (-1) 12
4. Kosovo 8/10 (+1) 10
4. Belarus 8/10 (-7) 6
6. Andorra 8/10 (-14) 2
Switzerland would have qualified if they could have held on while they were winning. A point for Romania against Israel next time out would see them through with Switzerland just one win away too. Kosovo still have the slightest mathematical possibility but it would involve some absolute craziness (Romania losing to Israel and then beating Switzerland, Kosovo beating Switzerland and Israel losing to Andorra).
If Israel wins their next two I think they'll make it because Romania would lose to Israel and could easily lose to Switzerland. Big 88th minute point versus the Swiss.
Another whacky scenario that could have traction if Iceland upsets Slovakia (in Bratislava) today and Luxembourg were to win at home versus Bosnia (they already won in Zenica 2-0). Then the final match day could see Luxembourg advancing directly if they win at Liechtenstein and Slovakia loses away to Bosnia.
Luxembourg will be kicking themselves for losing the home match versus Slovakia after getting a draw on the away match.
Hungary-Bulgaria was wild. Both teams had a red-card and Hungary secured the draw and qualification by getting the equalizer in the 7th minute of stoppage time with Bulgarian own goal!

Congratulations to Hungary and Slovakia who qualify after yesterday's results.
Azerbaijan 3-0 Sweden is a bit of a surprise! But then maybe less so given that neither had too much to play for.
Yeah, I don't put too much stock into it. I'm sure Azerbaijan went all out since those kind of home matches are perceived as measuring sticks, where as Sweden can't qualify so they've probably moved on to preparing for future qualifying campaigns already.
And the Albanian contingent who live over here that I work with, will be no doubt celebrating (as well as the millions back at their homeland) -- with the draw in Moldova, Albania have clinched their spot. Who would thought that they'd win a group outright that had Poland and Czech Republic in it? Looks like that's what will occur.
Well done to them! A massive achievement.
I went to the England match tonight. What an awful performance!

Matchday 10 permutations
Group C - The winner between Ukraine and Italy will qualify. A draw would mean that Italy qualify.
Group D - Croatia will qualify if they beat Armenia. If they do not beat Armenia, a win for Wales against Turkey would meant that they qualify.
Group E - The winner between Czech Republic and Moldova will qualify. A draw would mean that Czech Republic qualify.
Group G - A draw for Serbia against Bulgaria would see them qualify. If they lose to Bulgaria, a win for Montenegro against Hungary would see them qualify instead.
Group H - The winner between Slovenia and Kazakhstan will qualify. A draw would mean that Slovenia qualify.
Nice to see Moldova still in with an outside chance!

Play-Off 3 Winner
Italy in pot 4 means that the draw will be tasty! We could end up in a group of death with Denmark, Netherlands/Croatia and Italy or with Albania, Slovenia and the winner of play-off 3!
Play-Offs - One team from each path will qualify. A draw on Thursday will decide which team gets to play Wales, Israel and Bosnia & Herzegovina and which nation will host each final.
Path 1
Poland v Estonia
Wales v Finland/Ukraine/Iceland
Path 2
Israel vs Ukraine/Iceland
Bosnia & Herzegovina vs Finland/Ukraine
Path 3
Georgia vs Luxembourg
Greece vs Kazakhstan
You have to favour past winners Greece to win path 3 but any of the other 3 could easily win against them.
Potential for some tricky groups on paper then looking at the seeds. I actually think Hungary are the team to avoid in Pot 2.
Geez, didn't think I would say this a few years ago, but I'd take Germany or Belgium easily over the other four teams in Pot A. Good luck to ya if you get any of the others.
Imagine any of those four (or any of the six really) paired with Denmark/Hungary, Netherlands/Croatia, Italy. One of the biggest 'groups of death' in history.
Praying Iceland are placed in Path B as it's their only shot. Poor Estonia is going to get thumped.
The Play-Offs have now been confirmed.

The final 3 qualification spaces go to Poland, Ukraine and debutants Georgia.
Heartbreak for Wales, wish they had qualified as Poland rarely do much in tournament football. Great to see Georgia qualify as they always impressed in irelands groups over the past decade and have vastly improved!
Gutted for Wales there, hard lines eh Dan James lad.
Wales football's top official has confirmed Rob Page will continue as national team manager despite the failure to qualify for the Euro 2024 finals.
Football Association of Wales president Steve Williams has moved quickly to remove doubts over Page's future.
It comes after the penalty shootout defeat to Poland in Tuesday night's play-off final.
Sad for Wales, but agree it's great to see Georgia make it in as a debuting country!
Imagine telling someone after Saka, Rashford and Sancho all missed their pens in the last Euros final that 2 of them wouldn't even make the squad for the next one.
England have an incredible amount of attacking talent just hope Southgate can get the best out of Foden
Surprised at the Sancho emission not the Rashford one on form!
Some brave decisions from Southgate to be fair, not sure the fans can have too many complaints from here. Although left back looks a real problem area for us and our midfield looks really light. Not sure Gallagher/Mainoo are the answer and as much as I like Jones, he's struggled to get back to form post his injury in early 2024.
Really happy for Quansah. I don't think he will make the plane, but I think it is the right decision for Southgate to take a look at him. He's still incredibly raw but he's come on leaps and bounds and he's got a super high ceiling if he keeps performing at his current trajectory.
