Liverpool suffered a setback in their bid to reach the Europa League knockout stage as they lost 3-2 in Toulouse.

Aron Donnum opened the scoring after dispossessing Kostas Tsimikas in a dangerous area, and Thijs Dallinga doubled the Toulouse lead.

Liverpool pulled one back through a bizarre own goal from Cristian Casseres Jr, but Frank Magri restored the French side's two-goal advantage.

Diogo Jota scored for Liverpool with two minutes left but it was too late.

Brighton boosted their hopes of reaching the knockout stages of the Europa League with a comfortable 2-0 win over a youthful Ajax side in Amsterdam.

Ansu Fati opened the scoring for the visitors with a low effort into the bottom-left corner after collecting Simon Adingra's pass.

Fati then turned provider, as Ivory Coast winger Adringa doubled Brighton's lead with a rising close-range effort.

Another great win for Brighton cheer.gif

The once-mighty Ajax have now failed to score against Brighton in three hours of football. Every other opponent this season has managed to score at least once in half that time.

The result means Brighton should finish at least third, thereby remaining in European competition into the new year.

Third place or better isn't quite guaranteed but it should happen.

I would have said Liverpool should be shoe-ins to win this competition but after tonight I'm not so sure! mellow.gif

They are prob favs but only due to the club and history it’s most likely be a team like Seville!

Top of the group. Was it ever in doubt? biggrin.gif

Fans are hoping for Liverpool vs Leverkusen instead of the classic Milan vs Liverpool I love to see that. Alonso's managerial career looks really good so far, and a match against one of the teams that made his name would be great.

Just as I applied for Europa league final tickets today too as the finals in Dublin 😬

Posted by: Houdini 11th April 2024, 09:01 PM

Surprising result! Perhaps luckily for Liverpool away goals don't count like they used to anymore.

Posted by: Steve201 11th April 2024, 09:30 PM

It’s strange a mid ranking team nearly always wins the Europa League, it’s rarely the favs from the biggest leagues.

Don’t think away goals matter if your 0-3 down and have to go to Italy Houey! Just worry how it’ll effect our remaining games, can see us imploding now on Sunday too!

Crystanbul repeat 10 years on...?

Posted by: Rooney 12th April 2024, 10:21 AM

We were well beaten, no shame in that. Don't think I have ever seen a team play man marking like that so well.. ever? The better team won. Would say it will be incredibly difficult to get a result from here on-in, but not impossible. I've seen us play way worse under Klopp, as we started the game well, so not sure about some of these pieces with the "worst ever Klopp display". Some people have short memories as I've seen loads laugh.gif

Didn't see the match but that certainly sounds like quite the parformance from Atalanta!

Posted by: Cow P 18th April 2024, 11:12 PM

No England representations either in the UEL semi either, leaving Aston Villa alone at UECL!

No English team will be in the Semi-Finals of either the Champions League or Europa League for the first time since the 2014/15 season.

Posted by: Houdini 9th May 2024, 10:22 PM

Bayer Leverkusen's incredible season long unbeaten run continues after coming back from 2-0 down to get a 97th minute equaliser against Roma in the Europa League semi final 2nd leg. They are unbeaten for a European record 49 consecutive games.

Posted by: Cow P 10th May 2024, 01:45 AM

Yeah, great comeback from Leverkusen.

Posted by: Steve201 10th May 2024, 11:23 AM

Have they won the German Cup as well?

Posted by: Dobbo 10th May 2024, 11:29 AM

It will be up there with the greatest club seasons of all time.

Ademola Lookman's hattrick ends Bayer Leverkusen's unbeated run and gives Atalanta their first ever European championship.

Champions League will now have 6 teams from Italy.

Posted by: Dobbo 23rd May 2024, 08:58 AM

Wow that's mad, Italian football making a comeback after the doldrums of the mid to late 2010s.

Lookman has come a long way indeed from this...

Posted by: Steve201 23rd May 2024, 10:03 AM

It’s was a brilliant performance from Atalanta and shows it was no fluke how they took us apart. Also Landsdown Rd looked brilliant and a worthy place for the final!

Posted by: Cow P 1st June 2024, 01:36 AM

Well done to Olympiacos! Still sad to see Vincenzo for being another runner-ups though.
