Hello everyone, by posting the results in voting order I've managed this a lot easier this time and this means you haven't got to wait an age for the results.

They'll start in about an hour and a half to two hours and I should do them all within 2 hours hopefully. Any speculation welcome. How well will your song do? Better or worse than previous? What do you think will win? Come last?

Posted by: Ljósiđ 17th November 2010, 07:45 PM

I'm finishing last. sad.gif

Posted by: Hitstastic 17th November 2010, 07:47 PM

My track record to date:

22-15-??

I'm aiming for 8th but suspect I'll be stuck somewhere between 15-22 again. Maybe lower. drama.gif

Posted by: M!key 17th November 2010, 07:48 PM

I'm not holding any hopes of winning this time, after my win last time, mid table I'll be happy with. I'll be surprised with a top 5 finish.

My track record 3-1-??

Posted by: Ljósiđ 17th November 2010, 07:50 PM

21-11-?

I doubt this 'pattern' will remain laugh.gif

Posted by: Dandy* 17th November 2010, 07:50 PM

Huzzah. I had precisely no plans for this evening so this will do very nicely indeed.

I have no real idea what will win but I'll plump for Wolf Gang as being an obvious choice.

As for mine, I suspect it will flop somewhat (again sad.gif ) but I don't care as I love it. Guiltily.

Posted by: SKOB 17th November 2010, 07:52 PM

I have to check my track record...
14 - 24

Gosh I flopped last time.

Posted by: Ljósiđ 17th November 2010, 07:55 PM

Prisoner might very well win this thing! ohmy.gif

May i also say that that Aura Dione song is terrible, even more terrible than Thalia's last time around. sad.gif

Posted by: Hitstastic 17th November 2010, 07:55 PM

Staying loyal to the Unknown Pleasures format on Buzzjack, I predict a female vocal led track will win. Considering there did seem to be more than last time - I thought UPII was definitely going to have a male vocal track win but alas it didn't happen (which might explain why quite a few decided to go with female vocal led tracks this time).

Seems like an easy way to gain victory. happy.gif

I thought Aura Dione's track sounded exactly like something Alanis Morissette would release. I didn't mind the song personally but 'I Will Love You Monday' is better.

BJSC always wins with a female vocal sad.gif

Posted by: grebo69 17th November 2010, 08:04 PM

IIRC I have gone 13-18-?? but I am really hoping for Top 10 this time.

Posted by: Thomsen 17th November 2010, 08:11 PM

Ah, results this evening! Terrific!

Hoping for a top 8 smile.gif

...but that's BJSC. UP should be different but winners wise doesn't seem to reflect this (and I suspect that won't change tonight either).

Posted by: Dandy* 17th November 2010, 08:15 PM

It would appear that I have so far performed appallingly by having a run of 15-21... so 27th is next in line. happy.gif

The only way it can change by having a permanent ban on female acts laugh.gif but that will never happen

Posted by: alin 17th November 2010, 08:21 PM

I hope for top 10. Anything less is disappointing.

I think St. Vincent will win. Especially when you consider that video...

Posted by: Harve 17th November 2010, 08:39 PM

I'll be voting in about 30 minutes.... whether they get counted or not is a different matter, oops. Might just have to listen to little snippets of the last few tracks. I'll be sure to listen to them properly at a later date though, the quality is better than the previous 2 UPs to me (Y)

Posted by: Josh 17th November 2010, 08:46 PM

Arrrr man I don't even know my chart run. ohmy.gif I'll have a look, but I reckon that I've done okay, judging by some of the comments I read in the other thread. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Brett-Butler 17th November 2010, 09:09 PM

I'd settle for a top 10 finish, but I don't think my entry will have done too well. Looking forward to see who does well in this.

Posted by: Thomsen 17th November 2010, 09:11 PM

Seriously..That Lady Gaga signature is freaking me out.

Posted by: Harve 17th November 2010, 09:19 PM

VOTED. The quality was incredible, easily better than any other UP/BJSC, which is saying a lot in the first place.

Posted by: SKOB 17th November 2010, 09:39 PM

As I'm going to flop again, I just chose a song for next edition

Posted by: Thomsen 17th November 2010, 09:41 PM

Ugh, it's getting a biiit late in the far Denmark, Rabbit :/ Will try to stay up for this though.

Posted by: Hitstastic 17th November 2010, 09:45 PM

I suspect Mark is watching the England Vs France match at the moment.

Posted by: Dandy* 17th November 2010, 09:46 PM

Same here... afraid I'll have to catch up on this one as there's an alarm set for 5.30 awaiting me in the morning. sad.gif

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 17th November 2010, 09:48 PM

STARTING NOW

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 17th November 2010, 09:51 PM

The first votes were from first time participant NickF1. He'd voted in the previous two but not entered a song..

He sent 15. Aura Dione 'Something From Nothing'

Posted by: SKOB 17th November 2010, 09:53 PM

Cicada will do well

Posted by: Thomsen 17th November 2010, 09:54 PM

Yep. Cicada is a favorite.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 17th November 2010, 09:54 PM

The second vote was from Titty, the only person who didn't enter a song to vote. He's said he will look out for it next time though! biggrin.gif

1st (favourite) - Seekae 20 points
2nd - Mazimum Balloon 15
3rd - The Hundred In The Hands 12
4th - These New Puritans 10
5th - Mew 8
6th - Pictureplane 7
7th - The Unthanks 6
8th - Wolfgang 5
9th - St. Vincent 4
10th - The New Pornographers 3
11th - Foals 2
12th - Eivor Palsdothir 1

In that case I'll stick around for as long as I can but I doubt I'll make it to the end if it's 2 hours worth. Will look forward to catching up with it tomorrow though. biggrin.gif

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 17th November 2010, 09:55 PM

I apaologise if anyone saw the wrong scoreboard then! drama.gif

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 17th November 2010, 09:56 PM

The third vote came from traditional early voter Ghosthunter who this time sent a song people couldn't decide on....

13. Neo 'Serial Killer'

Ghosthunter's votes:

20 - Wolf Gang 'The King and All of His Men'
15 - Eivřr Pálsdóttir 'Trřllabundin'
12 - Frida Sundemo 'Towers'
10 - The Good Natured 'Prisoner'
08 - Future Presidents 'Criminal'
07 - Teenagers in Tokyo 'Peter Pan'
06 - Bell XI 'Flame'
05 - Cicada 'Love Don't Come Easy'
04 - Birds of Tokyo 'Plans'
03 - Nicole Atkins 'Neptune City'
02 - Martin Solveig ft Dragonette 'Hello'
01 - Bag Raiders 'Sunlight'

Posted by: Dandy* 17th November 2010, 09:57 PM

Nope... how far into the voting was it? Did you post the final result?!!! ohmy.gif

Posted by: Thomsen 17th November 2010, 09:59 PM

Like the pace, Rabbit.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 17th November 2010, 10:00 PM

Vote 4 was from Pavel. As something of a non-shock, Pavel's entry was:

2. Eivřr Pálsdóttir 'Trřllabundin'

20 Frida Sundemo 'Towers'
15 St. Vincent 'Actor Out of Work'
12 Nicole Atkins 'Neptune City'
10 The Reason ft Sara Quinn 'We're So Beyond This'
08 Sonic Boom Six 'Bigger Than Punk Rock'
07 The Unthanks 'Here's The Tender Coming'
06 Gobble Gobble 'Boring Horror'
05 Flyleaf 'I'm So Sick'
04 Hurt 'House Carpenter'
03 The Good Natured 'Prisoner'
02 Wolf Gang 'The King and All of His Men'
01 These New Puritans 'Attack Music'

20 for Frida pushes it from 11th to 1st, just two songs are now yet to score points. I accidentallly added The Good Natured's 3 points to Bell XI. I didn't spot this for another three votes so the scoreboard does not reflect it until then.

Posted by: Hitstastic 17th November 2010, 10:01 PM

Ooh, I'm off to a good start. happy.gif That'll change I'm sure by the end. tongue.gif

It was only the 9th so could've been worse. I uploaded the 1st 10 to Photobucket but got the one second from the wrong end!

Posted by: SKOB 17th November 2010, 10:01 PM

Myriad Harbour so low. Criminal sad.gif

Posted by: M!key 17th November 2010, 10:03 PM

That was pretty obvious it was by Pavel. It was crystal as MUD

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 17th November 2010, 10:05 PM

Next to vote was Dandy. He had the deciding vote last time but gets in early this time around.

20|Seekae
15|Pictureplane
12|Eivřr Pálsdóttir
10|St. Vincent
08|Bag Raiders
07|GOBBLE GOBBLE
06|Cashier No.9
05|Wolf Gang
04|Neo
03|The New Pornographers
02|Mew
01|Maximum Balloon

30. Cicada 'Love Don't Come Easy'

A second set of 20 points for Seekae puts it into the lead and Eivor moves up into second. A 6 for Cashier Number 9 mean just Aura Dione is yet to score.

Posted by: Dandy* 17th November 2010, 10:06 PM

Posted by: SKOB 17th November 2010, 10:07 PM

Tokyo is not in fashion

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 17th November 2010, 10:08 PM

The next person to vote was Mikey who has the best record in Unknown Pleasures so far with a 4th followed by a 1st. He's not started too well in this one so far though, his song has only 6 points so far.

1. The New Pornographers 'Myraid Harbour'

20 Hundred In The Hands
15 Hurt
12 Wolf Gang
10 Mew
8 Future Presidents
7 Nicole Akins
6 St. Vincent
5 Birds Of Tokyo
4 Bell XI
3 Q Lazarus
2 Cicada
1 Bag Raiders

Wolf Gang now take the lead and maximum points for The Hunded in the Hands puts it into the top 3.

Posted by: SKOB 17th November 2010, 10:09 PM

MH is so brilliant but a bit old

I'm doing better than I thought

Posted by: Chris. 17th November 2010, 10:11 PM

I quite liked Mikey's entry!

Posted by: Dandy* 17th November 2010, 10:11 PM

Mine is falling away already. After such a promising beginning too.

Still, I don't think I've ever been 2nd on the (lovely) scorecard before so I'm happy enough with that, even if it was just for one picture. biggrin.gif

Posted by: M!key 17th November 2010, 10:11 PM

Mind you I did start low last time. I think starting low helps heehee.gif

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 17th November 2010, 10:12 PM

Up next was SKOB who this time sent

5. Nicole Atkins 'Neptune City'

SKOB's votes:

20 pts – Hurt: House Carpenter
15 – Bell X1: Flame
12 – Cicada: Love Don't Come Easy
10 – Future Presidents: Criminal
8 – The New Pornographers: Myriad Harbour
7 – Bag Raiders: Sunlight
6 – St. Vincent: Actor out of Work
5 – Martin Solveig feat. Dragonette: Hello
4 – The Hundred in the Hands: Pigeon
3 – Q Lazarus: Goodbye, Horses
2 – Foals: Miami
1 – The Good Natured: Prisoner

Wolf Gang keep the lead but the top 5 is seperated by just 4 points, very close after 7 votes. Bell XI make a decent climb into the top 10.

Posted by: Dandy* 17th November 2010, 10:13 PM

Mikey's entries make me chuckle, they're like a ▲▲▲ personal chart from 4 years ago.

Posted by: SKOB 17th November 2010, 10:14 PM

My top 5...all great stuff

Posted by: M!key 17th November 2010, 10:15 PM

The Nicole Akins track is pretty good, at one stage it was in my top 3, but it fell.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 17th November 2010, 10:15 PM

Next up was Thomsen, who sent the current leader but it surely certain to knock his own song off the top. But a good start nonthless following up the top 5 for Wild Nothing.

4. Wolf Gang 'The King and All of His Men'

1st - Mew - Beach
2nd - Cicada - Love Don't Come Easy
3rd - Bell X1 - Flame
4th - Frida - Towers
5th - The New Pornographers - Myriad Harbour
6th - Future Presidents - CRIMINAL
7th - Maximum Balloon - Groove Me
8th - Foals - Miami
9th - Aura Dione - Something From Nothing
10th - The Hundred in the Hands 'Pigeon
11th - The Good Natured - Prisoner
12th - Goodbye Horses - Q Lazzarus

Up next was Hitstastic who got off to a decent start but has dropped a bit since.

28. Martin Solveig ft Dragonette 'Hello' was his choice

20 pts - Frida Sundemo 'Towers'
15 pts - Circada 'Love Don't Come Easy'
12 pts - Bag Raiders 'Sunlight'
10 pts - Wolf Gang 'The King And All Of His Men'
8 pts - Neo 'Serial Killer'
7 pts - The Hundred In The Hands 'Pigeons'
6 pts - Bell X1 'Flame'
5 pts - Birds of Tokyo 'Plans'
4 pts - Nicole Atkins 'Neptune City'
3 pts - Aura Dione 'Something From Nothing'
2 pts - Future Presidents 'Criminal'
1 pt - The New Pornographers 'Myraid Harbour'

Consecutive 2nd placings put Cicada into the lead, Dandy gets his name in gold on the lovely scoreboard now! Big points for Frida and Wolf Gang put them into the top 3 too whilst Aura Dione moves off the bottom and puts Cashier Number 9 there in stead. Bell XI/Good Natured points are now corrected.

STOP THE CONTEST NOW. ohmy.gif

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 17th November 2010, 10:24 PM

The next vote came from Brett-Butler who hasn't got off to the best of starts sitting in last. Poor Brett. sad.gif

27. Cashier Number 9 '42 West Avenue'

1st (favourite) - Martin Solveig ft Dragonette
2nd - The New Pornographera
3rd - St Vincent
4th - Wolf Gang
5th - Maximum Balloon
6th - Hundred in the Hands
7th - These New Puritans
8th - Bell XI
9th - Flyleaf
10th - Foals
11th - Sonic Boom Six
12th - Future Presidents

Cicada stay in the lead but 10 for Wolf Gang puts it level. Martin Solveig moves into the top 10 and New Pornographers into the top half. Just three songs are now yet to reach double figures.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 17th November 2010, 10:28 PM

First time participant Osiris was next. He's currently winning the 'Tokyo' battle, although neither are doing particularly well.

3. Birds of Tokyo 'Plans'

1st - 28. Martin Solveig ft Dragonette 'Hello'
2nd - 7. Future Presidents 'Criminal'
3rd - 4. Wolf Gang 'The King and All of His Men'
4th - 29. The Hundred in the Hands 'Pigeon'
5th - 17. Flyleaf 'I'm So Sick'
6th - 11. Pictureplane 'Goth Star'
7th - 31. Seekae 'Void'
8th - 8. The Unthanks 'Here's The Tender Coming'
9th - 22. Bag Raiders 'Sunlight'
10th - 6. The Good Natured 'Prisoner'
11th - 13. Neo 'Serial Killer'
12th - 9. Hurt 'House Carpenter'

Wolf Gang take the lead outright although are closely followed by The Hundred in the Hands and Martin Solveig after consecutive top marks, meaning Cicada falls out of the top 3 and Future Presidents close in on the top 5.

2. Pigeons - The Hundred in the Hands
3. Future Presidents - Criminal
4. Martin Solveig feat. Dragonette - Hello
5. Seekae - Void
6. Q Lazarus - Goodbye, Horses

12. Cicada - Love Don't Come Easy

'Pigeons' takes the lead and Martin also overtakes Wolf Gang pushing it to 3rd. St Vincent and Future Presidents now right on the tail of the top 3, and Teenagers in Tokyo reach the 10 point mark.

Well I placed it third so obviously I do like the track - it battled with Circada for my #2 spot but Circada got the edge in the end.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 17th November 2010, 10:36 PM

Severin was next, responsible for sending the song whose title has been in my head for most of the last week.

12. Q Lazarus 'Goodbye, Horses'

1st - Eivor Palsdottir
The Good Natured
Teenagersintokyo
Cicada
Sonic Boom Six
The Hundred In The Hands
St Vincent
The New Porongraphers
Flyleaf - I'm So Sick
Nicole Atkins
These New Puritans
12th - Mew

St Vincent climb to second but The Hundred in the Hands extend its lead. Eivor is into the top 10 whilst Teenagers in Tokyo more than double their points tally and climb to just outside the top 20.

In a move completely unrelated to me no longer being top ( mad.gif ) and falling below that pesky Hitstastic fella, the time has also come for me to retire methinks...

Congratulations to whoever wins! biggrin.gif (a sudden surge to victory by Seekae would be most welcome)

Posted by: Hitstastic 17th November 2010, 10:38 PM

I still can't call the winner of UPIII even after several sets of votes. I'm doing far better than I expected (so far tongue.gif ).

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 17th November 2010, 10:40 PM

The 14th vote was from Doctor Blind, returning after his runaway win with The Naked and Famous.

31. Seekae 'Void'

01. Teenagers In Tokyo 'Peter Pan' 20
02. Pictureplane 'Goth Star' 15
03. Mew 'Beach' 12
04. The Good Natured 'Prisoner' 10
05. Wolf Gang 'The King And All Of His Men' 8
06. Bell XI 'Flame' 7
07. The New Pornographers 'Myraid Harbour' 6
08. Q Lazarus 'Goodbye, Horses' 5
09. The Hundred in the Hands 'Pigeon' 4
10. Bag Raiders 'Sunlight' 3
11. Hurt 'House Carpenter' 2
12. St. Vincent 'Actor Out of Work' 1

The Hundred in the Hands remain 11 points ahead but of Wolf Gang now as it moves back up into second place. Some decent points for mid-table songs bring the top 10 and the middle closer together, another haul for Teenagers in Tokyo and it's now slap bang in the middle!

Chris was next up, his start has been far from as good as it was last time, although this songs is much better IMO.

10. Sonic Boom Six 'Bigger Than Punk Rock'

1. Mew 'Beach'
2. Pictureplane 'Goth Star'
3. Foals 'Miami'
5. Q Lazarus 'Goodbye, Horses'
4. The New Pornographers 'Myraid Harbour'
6. Hurt 'House Carpenter'
7. The Reason ft Sara Quinn 'We're So Beyond This'
8. Bell XI 'Flame'
9. Gobble Gobble 'Boring Horror'
10. These New Puritans 'Attack Music'
11. Cashier Number 9 '42 West Avenue'
12. Maximum Balloon 'Groove Me'

No points for any of the top 7 see Mew take advantage to move into touching distance of the top 3, Pictureplane are top 10 and a 12 for Foals doubles their tally.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 17th November 2010, 10:49 PM

Daniel II was next to vote. His entries so far have been slightly more unusual for what's usually entered into a contest and this is no different.

17. Flyleaf 'I'm So Sick'

1st) Seekae - Void (20 points)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------
2nd) Gobble Gobble - Boring Horror (15 points)
3rd) Pictureplane – Gothstar (12 points)
4th) Martin Solveig - Hello (10 points)
5th) The New Pornographers - Myriad Harbour (8 points)
6th) The Hundred in the Hands - Pigeon (7 points)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------
7th) The Good Natured – Prisoner (6 points)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------
8th) Sonic Boom Six - Bigger Than Punk Rock (5 points)
9th) Eivřr – Trřllabundin (4 points)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------
10th) The Unthanks - Here's The Tender Coming (3 points)
11th) St Vincent - Actor Out Of Work (2 points)
12th) Hurt - House Carpenter (1 point)

The Hundred in the Hands become the first song to reach 100 points, and Martin Solveig climbs back into second. A third 20 points for Seekae puts it into the top 10 again, whilst Gobble Gobble climb comfortably out of the bottom 5.

I did enjoy the song, and gave it points as well. It did seem a bit too much like TV on the Radio, but then again MB is their keyboardists' solo project.

Posted by: Chris. 17th November 2010, 10:52 PM

yeah so im doing $h!t so far, but i was expecting that as most people here don't seem to like much punk, or in Sonic Boom Six's case punk/ska/hip hop/loads of other stuff. great band, if you did enjoy my entry be sure to check out the album it's on 'The Ruff Guide To Genre Terrorism', i've seen the band 4 times they are ace and it's great to see bands not limiting themselves to one genre these days.

anyway i need to be up in the morning so won't be following anymore tonight, i'll catch up tomorrow.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 17th November 2010, 10:52 PM

Grebo was next up, 13th and 16th in the first two contests and 14th in this. Mid table mediocrity again.

6. The Good Natured 'Prisoner'

1st - 20 - The New Pornographers - Myriad Harbour
2nd - 15 - Bell X1 - Flame
3rd - 12 - Cashier No 9 - 42 West Avenue
4th - 10 - These New Puritans - Attack Music
5th - 8 - The Unthanks - Here's The Tender Coming
6th - 7 - Sonic Boom Six - Bigger Than Punk Rock
7th - 6 - Flyleaf - I'm So Sick
8th - 5 - Martin Solveig & Dragonette - Hello
9th - 4 - Nicole Atkins - Neptune City
10th - 3 - Seekae - Void
11th - 2 - The Hundred In The Hand - Pigeons
12th - 1 - Teenagers in Tokyo - Peter Pan

A 20 for New Pornographers moves them from 10th to 3rd, Mikey looking to emulate the success of Stars which also started slowly. Bell XI climb into the top 10 whilst there are some much needed points for some songs at the bottom such as The Unthanks, Sonic Boom Six and Cashier Number 9.

Zechhh, another first time participant, was next to vote. His song having a solid if unspectacular start.

9. Hurt 'House Carpenter'

20 Flyleaf - I'm So Sick
15 Seekae - Void
12 The Unthanks - Here's The Tender Coming
10 Neo - Serial Killer
08 Eivor Palsdottir - Trollabundin
07 Teenagers In Tokyo - Peter Pan
06 The Hundred In The Hands - Pigeon
05 The Good Natured - Prisoner
04 Sonic Boom Six - Bigger Than Punk Rock
03 These New Puritans - Attack Music
02 Nicole Atkins - Neptune City
01 Frida Sundemo - Towers

The Hundred in the Hands extend the lead to 18 points, it's almost now a vote ahead for the first time. Seekae take advantage of no other top songs apart from those two getting many points and move into the top 3. Three songs move up into the top 20 with big points; Flyleaf, Neo and The Unthanks.

I'LL GO UNTIL HALF PAST

Josh was next. A 26th and a 6th so far, he's doing alright again this time!

16. Mew 'Beach'

01 St. Vincent 'Actor Out of Work'
02. Sonic Boom Six 'Bigger Than Punk Rock'
03. Hurt 'House Carpenter'
04. Pictureplane 'Goth Star'
05. Neo 'Serial Killer'
06. The Hundred in the Hands 'Pigeon'
07. The Good Natured 'Prisoner'
08. Wolf Gang 'The King and All of His Men'
09. Flyleaf 'I'm So Sick'
10. Future Presidents 'Criminal'
11. Frida Sundemo 'Towers'
12. Cicada 'Love Don't Come Easy'

20 for St. Vincent puts it back into second and becomes the second song to reach 100 points as The Hundred in the Hands continue to gain points. Pictureplane climb back into the top 10 and Sonic Boom Six are into the top 20, climbing 6 places.

I think saving it for tomorrow is a good idea.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 17th November 2010, 11:08 PM

Freeze was up next, and he's winning the Tokyo battle now.

14. Teenagers in Tokyo 'Peter Pan'

Frida Sundemo – Towers – 20

Wolf Gang - The king and all of his men - 15
Future presidents – Criminal – 12

Gobble gobble - Boring horror - 10
Bag raiders – Sunlight - 8
Neo - Serial killer – 7

The Hundred in the Hands – Pigeon - 6
The Good Natured – Prisoner - 5
Sonic boom six - Bigger than punk rock – 4

Pictureplane - Goth star – 3
Bell XI – Flame - 2
St. Vincent - Actor out of work - 1

19 points now, as 'Pigeons' just keeps on consistantly scoring, Wolf Gang are back in the top 3 and are the third to reach 100. Frida and Future Presidents are now back in the top 10, as Cicada drops all the way down to 12th.

Maximum Balloon is the solo project of Dave Sitek (TVotR, Yeah Yeah Yeahs long time producer). His album features David Byrne, Karen O, TVotR members, Little Dragon and many more.

Do you think this song could be more succesful?

Thanks everyone who voted for my entry.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 17th November 2010, 11:14 PM

West was the 21st voter. After a disappointing 25th in UPII, hed have been hoping for better this time out but it's not to be so far.

23. The Reason ft Sara Quinn 'We're So Beyond This'

1st Birds of Tokyo - Plans
2nd Wolf Gang - The King and All of His Men
3rd Pictureplane - Gothstar
4th Q Lazarus - Goodbye, Horses
5th The Hundred In The Hands - Pigeons
6th The New Pornographers - Myraid Harbour
7th Teenagers in Tokyo - Peter Pan
8th St Vincent - Actor Out Of Work
9th Seekae - Void
10th Frida Sundemo - Towers
11th Bell X1 - Flame
12th Bag Raiders - Sunlight

More points for Pigeons! But a 15 for Wolf Gang puts it back into second place. Seekae and Pictureplane now within touching distance of 100 as the top 3 start to pull away slightly. A much needed 20 points for Birds of Tokyo moves it from second bottom to out of the bottom 5, pushing West's own entry into 30th. Poor West. sad.gif

Last one for the night, will leave the final 10 for tomorrow.

7. Future Presidents 'Criminal' sent by Addy, entering for the first time.

20 - Hurt 'House Carpenter'
15 - The Good Natured 'Prisoner'
12 - Bell XI 'Flame'
10 - Seekae 'Void'
8 - Eivřr Pálsdóttir 'Trřllabundin'
7 - The Reason ft Sara Quinn 'We're So Beyond This'
6 - Neo 'Serial Killer'
5 - Wolf Gang 'The King and All of His Men'
4 - St. Vincent 'Actor Out of Work'
3 - Cashier Number 9 '42 West Avenue'
2 - These New Puritans 'Attack Music'
1 - Aura Dione 'Something From Nothing'

Wolf Gang and St. Vincent close in on The Hundred in the Hands, and Seekae reach the 100 point barrier. The Good Natured and Hurt are now just outside the top 10 and the bottom 3 all score points, although just 1 for Aura Dione leaves it more stranded at the bottom.

Posted by: Daniel II 17th November 2010, 11:39 PM

Pigeons is a great song with an even better video; the two songs I'm surprised are doing so well are Towers and Criminal, two songs that seemed to me would appeal to BJSC voters but would bomb here: while I thought Boring Horror and Trřllabundin would be a shoo in for Top 10. I also thought the more pop oriented Wolf Gang would only manage mid table. Clearly, I have no clue. I'm glad Myraid Harbour has recovered from a poor start though, one of my favourite discoveries from the three UP so far. Looks like I will be matching my first song with an 18ish finish (if I can maintain it of course), still a good recovery from Bear McCreary last time and a Top 20 finish is nothing to be snooty about - I never do well in these things laugh.gif I'm still hoping Seekae will sneek the win.

I must admit I do, to help me concentrate I always watch the videos, otherwise I might have the song on in the background and not listen to it properly. It's impossible not to like a song better if it fits around a great video, image and sound naturally compliment eachother, so I can't see (unless of course you only listened to the MP3s) one couldn't, even if only subconsciously? Pigeons for one, only grabbed me at first because of the striking images, and the music took a little longer to grow, but the video sped up that process.

I agree entirely with this. Something magical happens when a song has that perfect strengthening through a music video which brings about that artistic concept's very essence and qualities in the best ways possible. Though on the opposite end of the scale there are those songs who - unfortunately - appears less impressive/weaker (as it actually is/could be), with just this $h!tty awful music video. But is this too unfair to songs without a video? I think that's the question.. although I've always taken just about everything into account when evaluating my score for an entry.

It's kind of like considering on a new place to live; there's the price, the location, neighbours, sorroundings, other various possibilities and of course the house itself. Even if someone doesn't care about the neighbours or location etc, it's still a part of what your choice ultimately has to offer (i.e. it's quality).

okay so, did I managed to stay inside top 10?

Posted by: Osiris 18th November 2010, 07:10 AM

Oh well at least I'm not second last anymore

Posted by: tonyttt31 18th November 2010, 07:28 AM

I usually sit back with my mp3 player and go through the tunes one by one, not doing anything else so I dont get distracted.

I may go with the videos method next time but I did found that the quality of the youtube clip for Gobble Gobble didn't have nearly as much sound quality as the mp3so I think I will use both methods - it might explain why it's going so poorly in the competition. I think it's amazingly well produced.

WOW, i expected to be bottom 5 the whole time laugh.gif

Thank you all who voted for me wub.gif I know my entry wasn't a shock to anybody heehee.gif

I better be cracking that Top 10 then mad.gif

Not getting the Pigeons love at all. I like the bass. Nothing else in it is doing very much for me. I much prefer Prisoner. St Vincent is just irritating.

Well done/commiserations Tom. It must be fabulous/tough at the Top/bottom.

Posted by: SKOB 18th November 2010, 08:14 AM

No way Pigeons is the best song here.

My track (Neptune City) is perhaps a bit too adult-orientated for this contest.

Posted by: tonyttt31 18th November 2010, 08:33 AM

The winning song in any UP has yet to impress me.

Looking good so far, top10 still possible.

I'm surprised at the many low-point votes Hurt got. I thought it was a song that you either love or hate, not something in the middle. tongue.gif

Thx to everybody who gave Hurt points so far, esepcially for the 20 points to SKOB and Botanikka (ohmy.gif kink.gif) and the 15 to Mikey. wub.gif

Posted by: SKOB 18th November 2010, 01:16 PM

House Carpenter is a brilliant song although must admit that it did sound unique here which might have helped it.

Posted by: tonyttt31 18th November 2010, 03:25 PM

I gave Hurt some points I think.

that's the first one, the second one is the one with the Lord of the Rings pisstake,

i love it.

I really liked 'Goodbye, Horses'. I have to say though that I thought it was a man to start with....

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 18th November 2010, 07:08 PM

The next person to vote was Medicated Soap. Two top 5 finishes in the first two (as well as countless top 10s in BJSC) Ben is the master of this type of competition, but it's not going as well for him this time around.

25. Gobble Gobble 'Boring Horror'

[20] Pictureplane 'Goth Star'
[15] Foals 'Miami'
[12] St. Vincent 'Actor Out of Work'
[10] The New Pornographers 'Myraid Harbour'
[08] Mew 'Beach'
[07] Wolf Gang 'The King and All of His Men'
[06] The Good Natured 'Prisoner'
[05] Nicole Atkins 'Neptune City'
[04] These New Puritans 'Attack Music'
[03] The Hundred in the Hands 'Pigeon'
[02] Maximum Balloon 'Groove Me'
[01] Teenagers in Tokyo 'Peter Pan'

Votes for each of the top 3 mean they extend their lead on Seekae whilst becoming closer to each other, however a 20 for Pictureplane puts it a 1st place away from the lead. The New Pornographers reach 100 points, the Good Natured climb into the top 10 and there's a much needed 15 points for Foals as it gets closer to the top 20.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 18th November 2010, 07:09 PM

BTW, I might have to go anytime soon but will be back for 9 (when I imagine it'll be more active anyway....)

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 18th November 2010, 07:12 PM

The 24th vote came from Tony, who's currently riding high in the top 10, looking to improve on previous 11th and 10th placed finishes.

26. Bell XI 'Flame'

1 Gobble Gobble 'Boring Horror'
2 Hurt 'House Carpenter'
3 The Good Natured 'Prisoner'
4 Bag Raiders 'Sunlight'
5 Cicada 'Love Don't Come Easy'
6 Teenagers in Tokyo 'Peter Pan'
7 Q Lazarus 'Goodbye, Horses'
8 These New Puritans 'Attack Music'
9 Martin Solveig ft Dragonette 'Hello'
10 Neo 'Serial Killer'
11 Eivřr Pálsdóttir 'Trřllabundin'
12 Mew 'Beach'

All points given to songs in the middle mean nothing at all changes towards the top. Hurt and The Good Natured are the biggest beneficiaries in the top 10 whilst these votes push Tony's own song down three places. Gobble Gobble climb 6 places into the top 20.

are you continuing now then? otherwise imma do something else til 9.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 18th November 2010, 08:07 PM

Three Triangles was next to vote with the song he thought would win. Oh dear.

22. Bag Raiders 'Sunlight'

20 Pictureplane Goth Star
15 Wolf Gang The King And All Of His Men
10 Maximum Balloon Groove Me
8 Seekae Void
7 Mew Beach
6 Martin Solveig Hello (Feat. Dragonette)
5 Q Lazarus Goodbye, Horses
4 These New Puritans Attack Music
3 Teenagers In Tokyo Peter Pan
2 Cicada Love Don’t Come Easy
1 ST. Vincent Actor Out Of Work

Wolf Gang take the lead from The Hundred in the Hands for the first time in fourteen votes, whilst Pictureplane move into second and are now very much in contention. Martin Solveig becomes the 8th to cross the 100 point barrier, Mew are back into the top 10 and Maximum Balloon are now up to the dizzy heights of 24th, something which I'm sure will give Alin a lot of pleasure.

Yes.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 18th November 2010, 08:10 PM

Suedehead was next, he came very close to victory last time but isn't doing as well this time around.

19. These New Puritans 'Attack Music'

20 pts New Pornographers - Myriad Harbour
15 pts Cashier Number 9 - 42 West Avenue
12 pts Future Presidents - Criminal
10 pts Bell XI - Flame
8 pts Gobble Gobble - Boring Horror
7 pts The Hundred in the Hands - Pigeon
6 pts Hurt - House Carpenter
5 pts Q Lazarus - Goodbye, Horses
4 pts Cicada - Love Don’t Come Easy
3 pts Wolf Gang - The King And All Of His Men
2 pts Neo - Serial Killer
1 pt The Reason ft Sara Quinn - We’re So Beyond This

Not a lot of points given to the top 5, The Hundred in the Hands are back up to second as a result and The New Pornographers are back in victory contention. Three more songs reach 100 points, and Brett-Butler's Cashier Number 9 moves out of the bottom 3, being replaced by Birds of Tokyo.

Posted by: Hitstastic 18th November 2010, 08:11 PM

I must be the only one who didn't know what to make of 'Goth Star' - I was strangly fascinated by the song yet the cut up fragmented Fleetwood Mac speeded up vocals ruined the song for me. sad.gif

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 18th November 2010, 08:13 PM

TomKay entered for the first time and is doing alright so far, probably better than he expected to.

21. Frida Sundemo 'Towers'

20pts Q Lazarus 'Goodbye, Horses'
15pts Bag Raiders 'Sunlight'
12pts Cicada 'Love Don't Come Easy'
10pts Wolf Gang 'The King and All of His Men'
8pts. The Hundred in the Hands 'Pigeon'
7pts. Bell XI 'Flame'
6pts. Martin Solveig ft Dragonette 'Hello'
5pts. The New Pornographers 'Myraid Harbour'
4pts. Neo 'Serial Killer'
3pts. Aura Dione 'Something From Nothing'
2pts. Foals 'Miami'
1pts. Teenagers in Tokyo 'Peter Pan'

Wolf Gang extend their lead slightly as they and The Hundred in the Hands pull away from the rest of the pack. A 12 for Cicada puts it back to within touching distance of the top 10, Q Lazarus moves into the top half and Aura Dione finally hits double figures - yay!

Posted by: Ljósiđ 18th November 2010, 08:16 PM

Wow, i gave a 20 to Tom! ohmy.gif

Posted by: Tom PSB Kay 18th November 2010, 08:16 PM

Yes, thanks Pavel, I thought it was the song, that you said had the cheesiest lyrics ever...

Finally, I'm revealed wub.gif Thanks to everyone who has given Frida points, it seems to be Marmite though. I do feel a bit of a fraud for voting for Wolf Gang so high, but I really made some great discoveres (Q Lazarus wub.gif) and I have to get the Bag Raiders album (you know it's Dan Black on that track?)

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 18th November 2010, 08:17 PM

Tyron was next to vote, his votes could shorten the chances of himself winning if Wolf Gang scored a decent amount of points.

29. The Hundred in the Hands 'Pigeon'

20 :: Nicole Atkins - Neptune City
15 :: Bag Raiders - Sunlight
12 :: Cicada - Love Don't Come Easy
10 :: The New Pornographers - Myriad Harbour
08 :: Aura Dione - Something From Nothing
07 :: Seekae - Void
06 :: Pictureplane - Goth Star
05 :: GOBBLE GOBBLE - Boring Horror
04 :: DR Big Band & Eivor Palsdottir - Trollabundin
03 :: Teenagers In Tokyo - Peter Pan
02 :: Neo - Serial Killer
01 :: Wolf Gang - The King and All His Men

Fortunately for Tyron, his chances of victory haven't been altered that much as Wolf Gang only recieve one point. Decent points for Pictureplane and The New Pornographers mean they catch up with him though. Bag Raiders are into the top half and 20 points for Nicole see her climb 6 places and put Foals in the bottom 5. Only 17 songs can now technically win, realistically though it's much less.

Posted by: Tom PSB Kay 18th November 2010, 08:19 PM

And yet Tyron gives me nothing. NuBJSC my arse tongue.gif

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 18th November 2010, 08:21 PM

Kieran was the next to vote, a first time participant who sent one of his favourite singles of the year. Not doing well though, perhaps it's a bit uninspired (although IMO it's the weakest song on the album)

24. Foals 'Miami'

20PTS The New Pornographers 'Myraid Harbour'

15PTS Birds of Tokyo 'Plans'

12PTS The Good Natured 'Prisoner'

10PTS Hurt 'House Carpenter'

8PTS Mew 'Beach'

7PTS Nicole Atkins 'Neptune City'

6PTS Bell XI 'Flame'

5PTS Future Presidents 'Criminal'

4PTS Wolf Gang 'The King and All of His Men'

3PTS Q Lazarus 'Goodbye, Horses'

2PTS Flyleaf 'I'm So Sick'

1PT Aura Dione 'Something From Nothing'

The New Pornographers move up to second, taking advantage of only 4 points given to the rest of the top 5. It can't be a second victory in a row for Mikey, can it?! The Good Natured are back in the top 10, Mew are the 13th to reach 100, 15 for Birds of Tokyo put the Unthanks into the bottom 5 and Kierans own song down a place too. Aura reaches 20 points, can it maybe not finish last?!

Posted by: grebo69 18th November 2010, 08:23 PM

C'mon Myriad Harbour!

Posted by: Chris. 18th November 2010, 08:24 PM

Miami was easily the best of all the songs imo but i voted it a few places down due to it being a band everyone knows, definatly not best on the album though. could have been lower if we had the same quality we had the last two UP's.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 18th November 2010, 08:25 PM

Being the kind soul that I am, Casey's votes were allowed, he still has a small chance of winning but he could easily end those chances with his votes.

18. St. Vincent 'Actor Out of Work'

01' Cicada 'Love Don't Come Easy'
02' The Hundred in the Hands 'Pigeon'
03' Pictureplane 'Goth Star'
04' Bag Raiders 'Sunlight'
05' The Good Natured 'Prisoner'
06' Neo 'Serial Killer'
07' Mew 'Beach'
08' Frida Sundemo 'Towers'
09' Martin Solveig ft Dragonette 'Hello'
10' These New Puritans 'Attack Music'
11' Elivor Palsdottir 'Trřllabundin'
12' Wolf Gang 'The King and All of His Men'

Just 11 points seperate the top 4 now, after high points for the Hundred in the Hands and Pictureplane, a 20 for Cicada moves it up to 5th. Two more of those and maybe that could win?

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 18th November 2010, 08:27 PM

Currently in 4th place, Harve has a chance of winning, but he could easily kill off that chance with his own votes, but will he?!

11. Pictureplane 'Goth Star'

20 Eivřr Pálsdóttir - Trřllabundin
15 The Unthanks - Here's The Tender Coming
12 Nicole Atkins - Neptune City
10 Gobble Gobble - Boring Horror
8 Hurt - House Carpenter
7 Frida Sundemo - Towers
6 St. Vincent - Actor Of Out Work
5 Bag Raiders - Sunlight
4 Mew - Beach
3 Teenagers In Tokyo - Peter Pan
2 Seekae - Void
1 The New Pornographers - Myraid Harbour

But remarkably, he doesn't. Still very much four songs in it. So, it all comes down to the deciding vote!

2 Mew 'Beach'
3 The Hundred in the Hands 'Pigeon'
4 Martin Solveig ft Dragonette 'Hello'
5 These New Puritans 'Attack Music'
6 Cicada 'Love Don't Come Easy'

7 Gobble Gobble 'Boring Horror'
8 Teenagers in Tokyo 'Peter Pan'
10 Q Lazarus 'Goodbye, Horses'

20 Pictureplane 'Goth Star'

Thanks for hosting, Mark - an excellent job as usual. Very much looking forward to the next one biggrin.gif

It was probably the most interesting entry. I didn't like the beginning at all but carried on listening and started thinking "I'm liking this".

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 18th November 2010, 11:43 PM

I liked Neo. I had it 13th.

Do you have the complete spreadsheet too? biggrin.gif

I have to admit, the beginning is very rubbish, but I was hoping people would persist as the rest of the song, in my opinion, is immense. Glad you liked it biggrin.gif

Yeah I'll post it tomorrow, along with updated stats.

I'm also going to do a general discussion thread for the next one...

I'm glad about the winner, very HEALTH in a way, my discovery for the comp as well. thanks for the 12 points Rabbit, glad you liked my track, be sure to check out the album it's from ('Ruff Guide To Genre Terrorism'), great band.

How odd you say that, when Harve sent me the song he said something along the lines of 'New Health'... I really liked your song, it's very different. I think I'll definitely check out their album.

QUOTE(Severin @ Nov 18 2010, 08:38 PM) *
Well done Harve and thanks Mark for doing this brilliantly as usual. cheer.gif

At least I improved on last time and am glad found the song some new fans.

Looking forward to the next one already

Thanks! biggrin.gif The song is great, was one of the most instant for me.

^ Just because your entry remains unknown doesn't mean you can't hype yourself up (Y). And i paid off too! biggrin.gif Thanks for the votes everyone <3

It's a good job I allowed late votes! You'd have remained 4th if Casey hadn't voted and you'd had a points deduction...

Grats to Harve, Tyron and Thomsen and everybody else who did better than expected and thx to RabbitFurCoat for organizing the whole thing. thumbup.gif

Not too happy with the overall result (the winner was actually the song I ranked last laugh.gif) but VERY happy with the top 10 for Hurt. Thx to everybody who gave it some points. wub.gif Am I the best "newcomer"? kink.gif

Can't wait for the next one, I have a big list of potential songs already.

You were indeed, one place ahead of the next best Tom.

Excellent winner! biggrin.gif

It possibly is my favourite song here but I already knew it so discounted it... even that left it remaining second in my votes though. wub.gif

Surprised at my finish, easily my best yet. I love the Cicada track, it reminds me of Sally Shapiro which is no bad thing at all.

It was one of only two songs I already knew as well, I thought about bumping it down to second but I only knew it from Ben's CD Swap and this made me like it more if anything. I did love 'Towers' though, it's not exactly my thing but it made me happy, it's so lovely! The Cicada song is a bit Sally now you mention it...

I see Pictureplane as similar to HEALTH with a hint of Witch House (last.fm would agree with me), if i said this before Chris would be put way off.

Perhaps i shouldn't cut it so fine next time :/. Thanks for allowing late votes, and for hosting, which i should've said that the first time. HOW RUDE.

It was Eivřr Pálsdóttir - and you're right it is much better than the song entered.

Meanwhile this is a much better version of Trollabundin (without all that bloody weird grunting which really put me off the track)

Hounds of Love is amazing although i liked Trřllabundin much more hence entered it.

This version is boring to be honest. sad.gif

Managed to not be in the bottom five biggrin.gif

Thanks for doing this Mark it was a lot of fun

Posted by: tonyttt31 19th November 2010, 08:40 AM

11-10-12

I'm consistent. Number 9 next time around.

Posted by: tonyttt31 19th November 2010, 08:46 AM

So a third winner with that sort of female vocals. sad.gif

Posted by: Severin 19th November 2010, 12:23 PM

For me it was all the 'bloody weird grunting' in Trollabundin that made it stand out. Otherwise it just sounds like a lot of other folk music.

Don't see the excitement over Hounds Of Love myself. It's OK

Exactly! It's the way she can handle her voice that makes the song so unique. wub.gif

Agreed. I wouldn't have voted for it at all of it wasn't for the grunting.

I'd say it's a completely different type of song to the previous two winners though.

That's fine but I'd rather not have the sound of Serena Williams in my ears for half the song.

Quite. I don't think it is directly comparable to previous winners at all and I'd say it's definitely the best winner to date.

And, excuse my rudeness for not saying so sooner, thanks for running this again - you did an excellent job as usual. wub.gif

Congrats to Harve on winning with Pictureplane, it's a very good song!

Great job once again Mark on hosting!

My chart run is 12-25-30. I'm getting progressively worst at UP.

I might as well had sent a Thalia track laugh.gif
