Depeche Mode - now down to a two-piece following the death of Andy Fletcher last year - have announced that their fifteenth album 'Momento Mori' will release sometime in Spring next year. It'll be their first since 2017's 'Spirit' and a tour has also been announced, although not a lead single just yet.

What does Momento Mori mean again? Remember there was an episode of the X-Files called that but can’t for the life of me remember what it meant!

Google is your friend! laugh.gif It's Latin for "remember that you [have to] die"

from NME:

A “memento mori” is an object that’s kept as a reminder of the inevitability of death – a skull, for example. According to Gore, the album’s title was in place prior to the passing of founding member Andy Fletcher aged 60 in May.

Given that Andy only passed away at the end of May, I've got to assume the bulk of the album must have been recorded with him?

So sad, love DM. I'm eager to hear something new from them as it's been such a long time.

It’s unclear how much was recorded with Andy (if any), but certainly some of it was written with him:

QUOTE
Martin Gore said of the album, “We started work on this project early in the pandemic, and its themes were directly inspired by that time. After Fletch’s passing, we decided to continue as we’re sure this is what he would have wanted, and that has really given the project an extra level of meaning.”

It's great to hear they're going to carry on as a duo.

I was just thinking this would be a good way to bring an end to the band.

They've been mostly good, great at times and occasionally brilliant but it'd be pushing it say they've done much worth listening to more than once in the last 20 years.

Although to be fair they are the only band I can think of where the singer died and is still an active member of an ongoing act

their last couple albums had a drop in quality imho but their 2000s albums were all 3 excellent (Exciter, Playing the angel, Sounds of the universe)

New music looks fairly imminent!

They’ve lost me a bit over the past 15 years or so. I’ll always listen to the new singles in case they hit form again but I haven’t really loved a DM single since Suffer Well

Wrong is the last single from DM that I really liked, but last couple albums were a let down

Quite a quick album campaign!
