The bubbly Tyla was born and raised in South Africa. Tyla is a truly multi -faceted artist who sings, writes, paints, acts and dances in addition to a multitude of other creative talents. Tyla stands for African youth culture and diversity. She is energetic and connected to the global youth map.
Her latest single Water is going viral globally at the moment
I previously sent her debut single Getting Late to BJSC and it did not qualify #justice4GettingLate
She replied to me on Twitter back in 2021 when I tweeted "Tyla is coming"
Love love love this, really enjoyed her previous single "Girl Next Door"
Surprising to see "Water" starting to do well but so deserved.
I think it's going viral on TikTok! There's a dance challenge. I saw Zara Larsson do it and Shaq and Tanya from Love Island
Oh I haven't seen it at all shows how catered for people's fyp are. It's such a nice feeling when it's a song you have already loved blow up - I think it's only happened to me with "Escapism" maybe.
It’s definitely gone viral.
Up to #25 on Apple Music and #41 on Spotify. Should be coming for the UK top 40 this week
Can't get this out of my head... the chorus is such an earworm.
Looking set for gop 40 this week, #27 in the mids!
What an amazing achievement that would be for Tyla I think she'll be the first South African artist to make the UK top 40 since Freshlyground and Die Antwoord in 2010?
If you don't count Troye Sivan
Yeah this song is ridiculously catchy . I’ve been non stop playing the last few days . Would love it to be a fully fledged chart hit !
Tyla slaying the charts! 19 in the midweeks now ❤️
top 20 this week would be great!
This went top 10 this week and now has an official video.
The video is such a serve , she’s such a star and I’m glad Water is now a top 10 hit !
GODDESS
First South African artist to make the UK top 10 since Clout in 1978 I believe!? So proud 🇿🇦
(Troye doesn't count x)
Debut TV performance. She's a star I fear
Agree I think she has potential to be massive
Loved this
Oh she’s a SUPERSTAR
OKAAAAY VOCALS!!!! Tyla ate that up!!
The remix with Travis Scott is out now - he doesn't really suit it or add much imo.
Water is becoming this year’s Calm Down
There's a new single called Truth or Dare out on Friday
Water is now top 10 on the US Hot 100
She teased another track on socials called On and On
I’m glad Water is a top 10 hit hopefully it can keep climbing for her after the Christmas rush , I do wish they picked someone better for the remix as Travis was kind of a meh choice
I’m liking the sound of the new songs especially Truth Or Dare !
I reckon Truth Or Dare will flop what with the Christmas rush and Water still riding high in the charts
Medley of Truth Or Dare and Water on The Voice Finale
Her stage presence is so great I like more and more with every performance she does !
Music video for Truth or Dare is coming soon
Music video for Truth or Dare
Water won Best African Music Performance at the Grammys. What a moment for South Africa
This is much better than 'Water'!
Her Debut Album is out NOW !
First listen this is SO good I’m bopping !
This is such a strong debut album and feels like a breath of fresh air honestly . She infuses R&B and Pop melodies with her amapiano South African roots so effortlessly !
There’s a handful of songs I could see blowing up at some point as well .
Oh yes I’m feeling this.
Breathe Me, Butterflies, On and On.
Bops. I don’t think I’ll be putting this down anytime soon.
I do wish they put Been Thinking on the Album . Probably one of my favourite songs and videos from her .
Album debuts at #19 in the UK with sales of 4,303. Around 900 sales shy of a top 10 debut. 'Jump' debuts at #80 and 'ART' at #85. Not bad!
Critics reviews have been really positive. It has a score of https://www.metacritic.com/music/tyla/tyla and https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/tyla-tyla/.
Not our corrupt government trying to snatched her Grammy
Art has been added to 1Xtra's playlist, get that promo *.*
Being escorted by a circle of police to her pop up shop here in South Africa
33 19 02 Tyla ~ Tyla
Album got a 2nd week in the top 40! The strategy of pushing 3 tracks at the same time seems to have given it some legs. 'Jump' is up to #62 this week
This is AOTY contender for me. I love it so much. I wish the album ended on Priorities though. To Last is so old and my least favourite single of Tyla, and the Travis Scott remix of Water is lame.
Great article
